L'Amira Steindamm in Hamburg

We decided to visit this restaurant based on the many positive reviews. The dining area is very inviting and beautifully decorated in an oriental style. However, the staff wasn't particularly attentive. We had to get menus ourselves, and the food wasn't really impressive or exceptionally good. The meat was a bit too dry for our taste, and you can find much more flavorful restaurants of this type elsewhere for the same price.

I can't me to this place a lot, I ordered a main course to go and had the grilled meat missing, and there was no bread! I tried to call them and couldn't get through. Outrageous! Does this qualify as robbery?

Unfortunately, it was an experience I would never repeat. The portion was small compared to the price, the shawarma seasoning was bad, and the prices were very expensive.

The food is more like fast food, with a very strong Arabic flavor profile, so I would advise against trying it. The seating is very cramped. For this reason, we didn't stay for tea.

The food was okay. The mixed grill was excellent, but the tagine was only mediocre, and the bread wasn't fresh, just supermarket quality. The service was poor; perhaps an exception, but my wife found a moldy rubber band in her drink, one of our companions received the wrong food twice, and the appetizer arrived after the main course, so we declined it. On top of that, we had far too little space. They seemed overwhelmed, but they should have communicated that at the beginning; then we would have found a more pleasant place. The prices aren't the cheapest, and the evening certainly didn't justify them.

The food was very good, but we had to spend 1.5 hours waiting because we waited 40 minutes for the food to arrive, and then the appetizers and main courses were brought all at once even though we hadn't wanted that, which unfortunately put us in a bad mood despite the delicious food.

Very tasty. We went there for lunch. Friendly, fast service, delicious food – what more could you want? A friend recommended it to us, and we tried it out during our city trip.

The welcome was very warm, and the waiter explained everything to us in a friendly and helpful manner. The food was nice and hot and very tasty, and the salad was fresh. We were even given complimentary tea at the end. The atmosphere is very pleasant and cozy. Highly recommended!

This restaurant is absolutely fantastic! The food is incredibly delicious and flavorful; I haven't tasted anything like it in a long time. The portions are generous, enough for one and a half people. We ordered a mixed grill platter, a Levantine kebab platter, an Arabic shawarma platter, an Arabic falafel platter, and grilled kibbeh. The staff are very friendly, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. An employee named Yamen is very respectful and has excellent manners. I highly recommend it.

The appetizer arrived 20 minutes after we ordered it and 5 minutes before the main course. I think that pretty much sums up the experience. While the next table (which arrived and ordered at the same time) had finished half of their main course, our appetizer arrived. The food was okay, nothing particularly outstanding.

Once upon a time, there was a good restaurant… I've known this place for many years and have unfortunately witnessed its gradual decline in quality – in the food, the service, and the atmosphere. What was once one of the best Syrian restaurants in the city is now, sadly, a mere shadow of its former self. This was particularly evident on my last visit: The food (zucchini with boiled yogurt sauce and frikeh, which didn't arrive – instead, I received rice with chicken) was more reminiscent of a botched house dish than restaurant fare. The seating situation was also disappointing: We had to squeeze into a narrow corner at the front with our child, even though the back area was completely empty – the lights were simply off. Other guests who arrived after us suffered the same fate. The service seemed annoyed and stressed; our order was taken hastily, and we got the feeling that no one really had the time or inclination to help. Furthermore, the prices have increased significantly – and this is unfortunately completely disproportionate to the quality offered. Particularly disappointing: They offer shawarma, but there isn't even a proper skewer for it. Instead, the meat is simply pan-fried – a huge difference in taste. It's a real shame – this used to be one of my favorite restaurants. But after this visit, I have to say: That was unfortunately my last. I can no longer recommend this place.

Very tasty and friendly service

The food was too greasy, there was not much shawarma in the roll, no card payments accepted, and it was too loud inside and out. I wanted to enjoy Syrian food, but unfortunately, it was a disaster. Never again.

Unfortunately, my experience at the Al Amir Damascus restaurant was disappointing. The food was only average and not particularly tasty. The staff seemed unflexible and unattentive. I also found a small caterpillar in my salad—that really shouldn't happen in a restaurant. Overall, it wasn't a good experience, and I wouldn't recommend going there again.

We came to Hamburg for vacation and ate at this restaurant. The food was truly excellent! The service and atmosphere were also wonderful. We definitely want to come back!

We were originally planning to eat at another restaurant, but unfortunately, it was ruined. Then we spontaneously found this fantastic place with very friendly staff, a great atmosphere, and delicious food. We'll be happy to come back here.

Simply 5 stars for the food! The service was also excellent. Very friendly, attentive, and quick – you immediately feel welcome as a guest. A full 5 stars for that, too! We were equally impressed by the ambiance: cozy, clean, and with a very pleasant atmosphere where you can relax and enjoy yourself. A clear 5 stars here too! Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable visit. I had falafel with feta cheese at Amira Restaurant. The welcome was very friendly, and the place is beautifully decorated. The food was fresh and deliciously prepared, especially the combination of crispy falafel, creamy hummus, fresh salad, and spicy feta cheese was outstanding. I definitely recommend this restaurant.

We had reserved a table for 6:30 p.m. on a Saturday evening, which was absolutely unnecessary. There were plenty of free tables. Drinks were brought to us without a word, "please" or "thank you." The appetizers (matzah, lamb sausage) were very large and almost qualify as main courses. I was really looking forward to the matzah appetizer plate and wanted to enjoy it. Unfortunately, that wasn't possible, as the main course was brought to the table after we'd already finished half of our meal. Since the table was very small, it was very crowded, not to mention that the main course got cold. The meal itself was okay for us, but here, too, we were looking forward to more flavor explosions from the Syrian spices. This was difficult, however, as the rice, and thus the entire meal, tasted almost exclusively of cinnamon. Cinnamon plays an important role in Syrian cuisine, but perhaps they should work on the dosage. Overall, we were looking forward to a lovely evening, one to enjoy, but unfortunately, it felt more like a "fast-food restaurant." A real shame. One more thing to note: the online menu doesn't match the one on site. Several dishes are missing. We've been to L'Amira in Farmsen several times, and we liked both the service and the food much better there. In Farmsen, they even provide a brief explanation of what's on your plate. Especially at Mazza.

Absolutely delicious 😋 I always come back, and the staff are very nice

I was in town and was hungry. There are so many restaurants on Steindamm. Today I happened to come here. I ordered the vegetarian tagine with rice. It's absolutely delicious! Thank you so much! I'll be back. The menu reads like a poem from 1001 and One Nights. The restaurant is extremely well-kept and clean, and very family-friendly. Lots of locals. The young waiter is very attentive. At the end of the meal, there's a cup of tea. Thank you so much! I'll be back!

Great food, highly recommended, better than the food in Berlin!!

The rooms look very nice with great ceiling lights. I got a table right away. I made a mistake when ordering and received my dish as a smaller appetizer. When I pointed this out, they responded immediately and increased the menu from 6 to 10! Very good service! I don't take that for granted. The taste was very good. I love matzo and having the choice to try so many new dishes. In the end, I was very happy and very, very full! General information: Very friendly Very tasty Excellent value for money Clean I felt safe there as a woman alone! Yes, I think this is important information, as many women find it difficult to go out to eat alone.

I was there today and wanted to pay by card – they only accept amounts over €10. Very annoying! I find this incomprehensible. Never again.

I was at this restaurant today. The service was disgusting, the waiters rude. I was sitting outside and had already started drinking tea when they rudely took away my already-started tea and gave my glass, which I was drinking from, to other guests. I do not recommend this place.

We come from Denmark and were going to stay 1 night in Hamburg. We wanted some delicious Arabic food. And we got it. I have never had such good falafel 🤩 the food, the service, yes everything was just 100% fine. It felt like a little anthill to be there, but in a good way and even though it was super busy, things were just 100% under control. Will definitely come back when I am in Hamburg again. I will dream about that falafel 😅

Honestly, the grilled chicken was not good at all. It was very rancid and had no spices. It was as if it was boiled, not grilled. I did not like it at all. I do not recommend it.

We visited the L'Amira Steindamm restaurant with our family after a journey of over two and a half hours. Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. Drinks were served first, so we started drinking them while we waited for the food. After waiting for over 30 minutes, however, not a single dish arrived – with no explanation or apology. The drinks were also overpriced, and the ayran was extremely salty and barely drinkable. In the end, we just paid for the drinks and left the restaurant disappointed to eat elsewhere. The service was unfriendly, and we didn't feel welcome. On the positive side, the beautiful and cozy oriental ambience – the decor is tastefully designed. However, this unfortunately couldn't compensate for the overall negative experience with the service. We therefore cannot recommend the restaurant.

The waiter interferes with which table we want to sit at and the food takes a very long time

I especially like the mezze at L'Amira; they're very varied and always super fresh. My favorites are the falafel, the baba ghanoush (actually moutabbel), the hummus, and the various pickled vegetables. There are also some very tasty main courses, such as the eggplant casserole maklūŋ. Overall, there's a great selection for vegetarians and vegans, but there are also meat dishes. The atmosphere of the restaurant is generally very nice; it has a cozy, stylish interior. The staff is always super friendly and service-oriented. What bothers me a bit, however, is the noise level. You sit at tables here, and it can get very loud. That's why I often order takeaway. You can also buy all the mezze in larger quantities, which is great for parties or events. The prices are a bit higher, but I think that's appropriate for the quality. Overall, I can highly recommend the L'Amira restaurant on Steindamm.

I will never set foot in that restaurant again. I was shocked to see Coca-Cola products being sold and consumed by Syrians. I couldn't ask why because the waiters didn't speak German.

Don't come back, there is no generosity, the Arabic shawarma meal is the worst experience I've had, the fries are inedible, the treatment is terrible, there is a lot of noise and commotion, the chairs are dancing as if in a tray to the tune of the song Happy Birthday to You, in short, it's crappy

You are not generous, you are stingy. If you put a finger in the tomato sauce, the pommes are old oil. Also, why is a chicken sandwich worth 10.90 €? I mean, a big star for you for this stinginess. Halabi bread, not saj bread.

Had dinner here on a recent trip while staying at a nearby hotel. All dishes we had here were very good, and would definitely come again. We had kofta and chicken skewers with fries and rice and baba ganoush etc. as sides. Good quality meats and tasty too. Only "minus" was that the portions were very large and would not want to try to finish them all. The restaurant was busy, but it was not too noisy. The furnishings and decoration is clearly above average of mid-eastern restaurants we have visited in central Europe.

For us, it was the culinary highlight of our week in Hamburg. We came here on a recommendation, and our expectations were exceeded. The food, ambiance, and service were very authentic and warm. Our children also felt very comfortable here.

Today we decided to get our first schwarma at L’Amira and were pleasantly surprised. The wraps were crispy and fluffy, the chicken had wonderful flavour the pickles were sour and salty and the garlic sauce very tasty. Great choice for a meal!

The restaurant is delicious but lacks serving manakish

This restaurant offers dishes that, in terms of taste and selection, are reminiscent of Arabic or North African cuisine. There are many variations of meat dishes. The appetizers are quite filling. However, my selection didn't completely convince me in terms of taste, but that doesn't mean that other dishes aren't delicious. The baba ganoush, in particular, was quite good. The service is friendly. I find the restaurant's division into two areas a bit inconvenient: one for shawarma in bread and one for classic à la carte dishes. It's a shame that you can't order shawarma in the restaurant area along with other appetizers. The prices for meat dishes aren't extremely overpriced compared to other restaurants nearby, but they are on the higher end.

Delicious lunch! Very tasty, delicious flavours. Different lunch menu every day of the week. Reasonably priced. Friendly service. We had chicken strips with apple, orange and ginger sauce with veg and rice; and red pepper stuffed with lamb mince, rice, salad and baba ganoush. We will return to try the buffet brunch on Sunday!

Unassuming flavor bomb. Who would know, walking past, that this place offers a delicious menu that delivers what the menu suggests you'll get. A different set of dishes each day, we ordered two of the items from this Thursdays offerings. My pictures don't do the flavor justice; subtle, depth, and definitly coming back for more. They told us about the Sunday buffet, so heading back for that. The staff was helpful, polite, made a couple of good recommendations. If i lived in hamburg, this would be a weekly go to - the mains were just over €10! Highly recommend.

Anything but good, even disappointing. Bad service. Rude, restrooms very dirty and broken (men's restroom). Food covered in oil, ordered shawarma roll, didn't get fries, but still wanted to charge. Smoking in the store. To be honest, too much hype. The grill plate isn't a lamb skewer, but a turkey. Beware, it's a rip-off.

My experience with the dish "Kebab Bil Karaz": I was really looking forward to the dish "Kebab Bil Karaz Minced Lamb Skewers," especially because it was so attractively presented on the menu and in the photos – with an aromatic pomegranate, cherry, and ginger sauce, vegetables, and fresh saffron rice. What I was served in the restaurant, however, bore absolutely no resemblance to the dish I expected. The presentation was disappointing, the flavor was unpleasant, and the rice tasted distinctly stale – as if it had been left over from the day before. The sauce had no flavor, and the entire dish was simply disgusting. For a price of €16.90, this is absolutely unacceptable. Overall, I had a very poor experience and will not recommend this restaurant.

What a wonderful place for North African food. Extremely friendly staff, a lovely ambiance, and excellent food. All of our questions about the menu were answered, so even I, who rarely eats Arabic/Syrian food, was able to find something to eat. I will definitely be back. Thanks to the kitchen and staff.

Syrian-Lebanese restaurant with an attached street vendor in the adjacent building. Excellent quality and friendly service. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, with unusual wall tiles and many beautiful ceiling lights. Clean restrooms, although those with walking difficulties may find it difficult, as they have to climb a flight of stairs to reach the toilet. Cash and debit card payments are accepted. Parking by car is limited in Hamburg, so you'll need a bit of luck. Portions are sufficiently large; even a hearty eater can be satisfied with an appetizer and main course. The hummus as a starter is highly recommended!

We were here with a few colleagues, 13 in total. We were there at lunchtime around 12:15 and it was steadily filling up. Nevertheless, after our order, the food came quite quickly. And it was very tasty, which I say a little skeptically at first because I didn't know anything about it. My dish SishTaouk rice, salad and I think turkey or chicken, very tender, just awesome. Hey, always happy, the prices were also very fair.

Wer arabische Küche liebt, ist hier genau richtig. Alle Speisen waren ein Genuss. Auch die sehr freundliche Bedienung und die stilvolle Einrichtung machen den Besuch im Restaurant zum Erlebnis.

Mijn Kebab Bil Karaz wordt gebracht met een glas mineraalwater. Alles met een glimlach. De Duitse uitleg op de menukaart helpt een beetje maar het blijft een sprong in het diepe. De naam van het gerecht staat in het Arabisch op de menukaart. In het Syrische Aleppo zou dit cherry Kebab heten en inderdaad, de kersensmaak zit er duidelijk in.
