A very nice and well-kept restaurant, the waiters are super nice, polite and helpful, they offer a lot of things and explain well what the food is exactly and the food doesn't take long but still tastes very delicious, you can tell that the staff and the boss put a lot of effort into it, unfortunately I think that the restaurant is not that well known which is a shame, so in summary a really good restaurant

A delicious glimpse into Syrian cuisine. The owner was almost too eager (he knew what I wanted better than I did. 😉 And he was right, too.) Drinks are only non-alcoholic. I went against the recommendation (pomegranate spritzer) and opted for a non-alcoholic beer. Small terrace on the sidewalk, not too noisy. Would definitely go back

We were at the Wüstenrose yesterday. It's a small but fine restaurant. The back area had a living room atmosphere. The tables and chairs look like something from Grandma's living room, but the whole thing fits together very well. We started with the small appetizer platter. A colorful mix of vegetarian snacks, there's something for everyone. For main courses, we had the grilled plate, spinach with chicken, and the chicken skewers. All the dishes were very tasty and well-seasoned. The wait wasn't long, and the chef was very friendly. We definitely recommend it.

Authentic, delicious, and made with love! We had various meze dishes; everything was super fresh, beautifully presented, and tasted excellent. We particularly enjoyed the lamb, which was incredibly tender and perfectly seasoned. My personal highlight was the fried cheese, crispy on the outside and wonderfully creamy on the inside. The hummus was also delicious. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable meal in a lovely atmosphere. Highly recommended!

The Desert Rose was a real surprise – and a completely positive one! The food was wonderfully fresh, served quickly, and above all, extremely delicious! The waitress advised us and explained the dishes, and the food arrived promptly. The restaurant is lovingly decorated, with antique chairs and tables, great decor, and an overall very cozy atmosphere. Unfortunately, the tables outside were a bit lacking in decor. The only downside: due to the lack of a liquor license, you can't order alcohol – although there is a selection of non-alcoholic wines and beers on the menu. All in all, highly recommended!

We recently visited the "Desert Rose" around lunchtime for the first time. The ambiance, reminiscent of a 1960s living room, was striking. The owner – very friendly – ​​advised us to have the 12-piece matzah variation to experience the different flavors. A good tip. Afterward, we each had two whole matzah portions. It was plentiful and delicious. We finished with Arabic mocha with cardamom. You really couldn't eat better. The different spices give each dish its own flavor. Take your time. The dishes are freshly prepared; nevertheless, there are no long waits. The owner was attentive but never intrusive. Another tip: Across the street is the Achilles Foundation Glass Museum, with fantastic contemporary artwork. Highly recommended. Glass art and the Desert Rose go perfectly together.

I have been several times now in the Wüstenrose and I am always enjoying the food (especially the huge selection of vegetarian mazza), the refreshing (non-alcoholic) drinks, the ambiente, and the great service. Highly recommended!

All in all, a perfect restaurant experience. The restaurant offers a very familiar atmosphere. The decor is full of vintage furniture and has a great attention to detail. It's truly cozy. The menu includes a wide variety of Arabic mezze, including many vegetarian and vegan options. We had a hard time deciding, but in the end we settled on seven different mezze. What immediately stood out was that great attention to detail is paid here, too; everything was lovingly prepared. Everything tasted top-notch, simply fantastic. The feta cheese balls on apricot and the breaded cauliflower deserve special mention, but the classics like hummus, falafel, and moutabébé were also excellent. The portion sizes were also appropriate; seven mezze were more than enough for us. What's also great: The service from the owner (who also works in the kitchen) is very warm and open. We had a very pleasant conversation with him for a while and learned that he was an artist in Syria and has been a chef in Germany for many years. You can definitely feel the artistic quality in the food. Overall, I would rate the Wüstenrose restaurant as one of the best Syrian restaurants in Hamburg, and I've tried several. I highly recommend it!

Yesterday the three of us were in the Wüstenrose. The ambience, seating and the friendliness of the service were really wonderful. We had 12 bowls with 10 different appetizers that we really enjoyed. But then came the main course, the octopus was too hard and it was difficult to chew, the side dishes were poor, but then came the shrimp for 17€, 4 shrimp swimming in a sauce in an ultra-small bowl, from which I still had to remove the shell, crazy!!! I am a passionate restaurant visitor and always rate everything loyally and fairly, but this was a disgrace!!! The pomegranate spritzer was really outstanding, the starter was good, the main course was bad (by Hamburg standards), and the dessert didn't blow me away either. You shouldn't compare the situation with a fishing port restaurant here, but every restaurant in the Portuguese Quarter has more to offer in terms of cuisine than the Wüstenrose, especially since the location where the Wüstenrose can be found was not particularly special. I rule out another visit here. Above all, the price/performance ratio was subpar, actually only 2 out of 5 stars, but I don't want to be too harsh, hence 3 stars. The three of us paid €135 and none of my guests were really satisfied at the end, and that wasn't to be.

It's nice that it's open from 12 p.m. The menu is clear, but something was recommended straight away, so the Syrian tapas had several small starters. My absolute highlight, however, was the small pistachio cake for dessert! Thanks to the friendly gentleman who looked after us all evening. If we are in Hamburg again, we would like to come back. :-)

Wow! I've never eaten anywhere where I really enjoyed everything. Starter mix, the spinach and pomegranate spritzer (recommended by the boss) were super tasty. The seasoning of the dishes was on point and at the same time outstanding compared to everything I have ever eaten from Syrian-Arab cuisine (and that was delicious)! The charming and romantic ambience combined with the lovely and atmospheric music enhanced the impressions, truly a great restaurant! You can have a great time here, even during long opening hours. The owner is always available for advice and open to requests. Vegans don't miss out either!! We were there early at lunchtime and can only imagine that an even cozier atmosphere could be created in the evening hours with the floor lamps and chandeliers. It's hard to imagine... But we'll try it out soon!

We came across this restaurant spontaneously and luckily got a table for two people. The vegetarian mezza were outstanding and neither of us have had such good falafels before. Really recommended! The main courses are also very diverse and delicious, so there is something for all tastes.

The name Desert rose is fitting. Especially Syrian fine dining. I travel a lot and because of that I try to eat at new locations every time I’m visiting Hamburg. This was by far the best food experience I had. I never thought I would fall in love with Syrian cuisine but then again the Arabic cuisine is an explosion of flavour. I had the mixed grill platter for one person. Had I known the taste of the food I would have ordered the platter for two. The meat was properly marinated and the salad was fresh. You could taste the freshness in every bite. Rice was also perfectly cooked and garnished. The muhammara bread (I hope I described it correctly) was toasted which added more flavour. The owner is also the head chef which you can taste once you put in your first mouthful. They have a huge section for vegetarian and also for meat lovers. This restaurant is a real insider tip in Barmbek-Nord. Wüstenrose serves dishes from Syria. The map is very extensive. I was pleased with the wide variety of vegetarian dishes. Alcohol is not served at all. There is a large selection of non-alcoholic drinks. I can particularly recommend the pomegranate spritzer. The interior of the store is very cozy. The team is very friendly. The price level is higher than expected. All major credit cards (including AMEX) are accepted when paying.

The food was very good, the owner and head chef made good recommendations. He offered us a mezze starter with 8 bowls, we chose 12 and enjoyed the small dishes. Afterwards there was a main course. For me the minced bulgur balls in yogurt sauce and my companion had the salmon with lime sauce, both of which tasted great! My top favorites of the evening were the falafel balls for the starter (the best I've had so far) and the great rice for my main course, which I could have served on its own - a super well-rounded mixture of spices made it so special for me. The ambience was OK, but I had the feeling of eating at grandma's (which isn't meant negatively, but I would have expected a little more "desert rose"!)
