Lalibela Restaurant - Taste of Ethiopia, Kreuzberg in Berlin

Wir waren zu zweit und hatten den Eindruck, dass der Kohl vergoren geschmeckt hat. Die Portionen sind zum Sattwerden zu klein, weshalb wir mehr Brot bestellt hatten, das allerdings in größeren Mengen sehr sauer ist. Als wir Trinkgeld geben wollten, versuchte eine Kellnerin uns scheinbar absichtlich ein offensichtlich deutlich höheres Trinkgeld zahlen zu lassen, als angesagt wurde. Ihre Reaktion auf unsere Korrektur war merklich genervt.

Nie wieder. Bitte probieren Sie das Essen, das Sie servieren – es ist inakzeptabel.

Leider war der Service absolut überfordert, wir haben 50 Minuten auf unser Wasser gewartet. Dann haben wir das falsche Essen serviert bekommen (vegetarisch bestellt, Fleisch bekommen). Auf Nachfrage konnte sich die Bedienung kaum an unsere Bestellung erinnern- an dem Abend leider nicht nur unsere Erfahrung. Mehrere sind wortlos aufgestanden und gegangen.

Es schmeckt gut, aber die Portionen stehen in keinem Verhältnis zum Preis. Die Gestaltung der Speisekarte ist sehr unübersichtlich: Oft gehen wichtige Details zur Auswahl zwischen scharfer und milder Variante aufgrund der schlechten Gestaltung unter.

Das Essen ist gut! Früher gab es mehr Gerichte auf der Speisekarte, wie zum Beispiel gemischte Platten.

Das Enjera ist klebrig und das Geld nicht wert. Das Essen ist alles andere als gut. Diese Leute haben keine Leidenschaft für äthiopisches Essen, sie wollen nur mit den schlechtesten Zutaten viel Geld verdienen – geht da bloß nicht hin!!!

Das Essen war wirklich gut und hat geschmeckt. Authentisch äthiopisch, würde ich sagen. Auch die Bedienung war an sich total nett. Aber der Service war leider sehr unorganisiert. Wir saßen über eine Stunde da und wurden nicht mal nach Getränken gefragt. Auf das Essen mussten wir dann auch richtig lange warten. Ich hatte das Gefühl, dass das Lokal einfach überfordert war. Viel zu wenige Mitarbeiter für so viele Gäste. Das hat die Erfahrung dann leider runtergezogen. Schade, denn das Essen war gut und die Mitarbeiter bemüht. Aber die Organisation muss einfach besser sein.

Wir sind äußerst enttäuscht. Das Essen war zwar wirklich lecker, aber der Service war katastrophal und unehrlich. Wir haben mehrmals bestellt, aber die letzte Bestellung über Lieferando mit der Bitte um eine Liefergenehmigung hat nicht funktioniert. Anrufe und E-Mails werden nicht beantwortet, und wir werden Lieferando nicht für größere Veranstaltungen empfehlen.

Wir waren dort zum Abendessen, und das Restaurant war überhaupt nicht voll, trotzdem dauerte die Zubereitung des Essens etwa 30 Minuten. Die Sambusa waren gut, aber ich glaube, sie waren nicht mehr ganz frisch. Insgesamt war es ein schönes Erlebnis, und die Ingera mit verschiedenen äthiopischen Gerichten war köstlich. Leider gab es auch keinen Honigwein.

Ich war nun schon zum zweiten Mal hier und es ist definitiv ein Restaurant, das ich immer wieder besuchen möchte! Das Essen ist von hervorragender Qualität, unglaublich lecker und der Preis ist für die riesige Menge und Qualität der Speisen unschlagbar. Die Weine sind ebenfalls großartig und passen hervorragend zu den Gerichten. Das Personal ist immer unglaublich freundlich! Ich kann das Restaurant uneingeschränkt empfehlen und komme ganz sicher wieder! ❣️

Ich war schon zweimal hier. Es ist einfach fantastisch. Das Personal ist freundlich und das Essen ist unglaublich lecker. Falls Sie Bedenken haben, mit den Händen zu essen, werden Sie diese sofort vergessen. Ich kann die „Kulturplatte“ wärmstens empfehlen. Auch der Honigwein ist köstlich.

Es war nicht gut, das Essen war sehr fad, das Personal unfreundlich und die Atmosphäre schmutzig. Eines der schlechtesten Essen in den letzten Jahren, total überteuert und super kleine Portionen. Nach dem vergorenen Kohl haben wir beide Bauchweh bekommen. Und wir sind nicht zimperlich (Indien haben wir 3 Monate zB ohne Probleme überstanden). Service war unaufmerksam. Würde gerne positiver schreiben! 😕

Wer vergoren Salat mit kleinen und nichtsättigenden Portionen für viel Geld haben möchte: hier ist man richtig. Brutal laute Musik unaufmerksame Bedienung noch on top und schöne Flensburgerflaschen als Kerzenhalter, dafür 2 Sterne! Ansonsten Finger weg!

Mit dem Service sind wir sehr zufrieden. Das Essen sehr lecker und vielseitig. Das Ambiente ist authentisch. Wir konnten ganz traditionell zu 2.bis zu 4.eine Platte bestellen und genießen...

Leider ein absoluter Reinfall. Wir waren zu dritt am Abend da gewesen, haben 92,50€ bezahlt für angeblich vier Gerichte. Die Preise in der Karte stimmen nicht überein. Sie hatte uns eine Handgeschriebene Rechnung gegeben, ich hab auf eine mit MWst. bestanden - promt knapp 10€ günstiger. Wir haben soeben die Preise zusammen gerechnet und haben immer noch eine Differenz festgestellt.. abzocke .. Essen war nichts außergewöhnliches, es hat teilweise wie Gulasch geschmeckt. Können wir nicht empfehlen.

Ein wunderschönes äthiopisches Restaurant in Kreuzberg, einem Stadtteil Berlins. Die Wände sind handbemalt und mit tollen Fadenbildern verziert. Ich esse gerne scharf, aber für deutsche Verhältnisse ist das Essen zwar geschmackvoll, aber nicht scharf. (Meine Tochter meint, Ketchup sei in Deutschland scharf.) Der Service war freundlich und unsere Bedienung sprach Englisch. Die Speisekarte enthielt englische Übersetzungen der äthiopischen Gerichte. Meine Tochter und ich bestellten die Gemüseplatte. Mein Sohn aß Sega Key Wot (Rindfleischcurry, das eigentlich scharf sein sollte) und mein Mann Sega Key Wot be Lewez (Rindfleischcurry mit Erdnusssauce). Mein Sohn hätte es gerne etwas schärfer gehabt, fand es aber trotzdem lecker. Nur Barzahlung.

Great food, good service, nice space. The prices are ridiculously high for no reason.

The five of us ordered the vegan platter and were completely full. We didn't really need that much, but everything was so incredibly delicious that we kept snacking on a little extra. Of course, it's all a matter of taste, but we all loved the spices, the sourdough, and the combination of eating with our hands. The service was also excellent. Friendly but not overly attentive. There was a minor error with the order, but that can happen to anyone. We'll definitely be back soon!

The server was very rude to us!!! Trying to force us to order more. They gave us one small piece of chicken for 13.5 euros!! We ordered one doro wot and it was written in the menu- chicken “drums” (plural) and we got one small piece each. The portion was so small and overpriced. I generally don’t write such reviews but because of the extremely rude customer service, I just had to.

We had dinner there, two different vegan platters, and it was delicious, and the service was super friendly. We'd love to come back. Keep up the good work...

1st time at a Ethiopian restaurant. We had reservations but place was quiet on a Friday night so not needed. Vegetarian/vegan friendly restaurant. Ordered Doro Wot Chicken which was okay, mild in flavour. One boiled egg and one piece of chicken. Not that keen on the injera, the pancake-like flatbread. Typically, meals are eaten with your fingers. We were only a table of 4 and even with the restaurant being quiet, we had a long wait for our meals. The others shared a vegan platter which they enjoyed.

We really enjoyed it! The vegan dish for two was perfectly sufficient for us and was truly delicious. Lots of different flavors and spices, it was great to try something different. The restaurant is ideal for vegetarian or vegan diets. The food was also very healthy, which is another huge plus. We'd love to come back!

Very good place to eat ethiopian, nice staff and all !

The staff was incredibly friendly and gave us a very warm welcome. The Ethiopian-style interior had its own unique flair. We were able to sit by the open windows at the bottom of the bus, allowing for fresh air and avoiding getting wet even in the rain. You could also sit outside on the restaurant side. Here, like in Ethiopia, you eat with your fingers, but that's not a requirement. The bread wasn't my taste at all, but everything else is highly recommended. Dessert was incredibly sweet, but also good. We really enjoyed the coffee. Small but fine dining.

The food has no seasoning at all and tastes of nothing. What tastes of something doesn't taste good. The bread is very sour and has a strange consistency. We won't be coming back here.

The food wasn't so great and not large enough portions for the prices. Staff attentive and kind.

Although the location and name of the house (Lalibela) were great, we were not able to eat the very bad food (except for the sanbusa, which the children loved). Also, the house was full of garbage and the darkness of the house made it look like an old movie theater, not a restaurant. The host, who understood our concerns and apologized, would have been even more disappointed. He told me not to go to the second "Habesha" house and eat.

Delicious Ethiopian food. We had a Vegan injera plate for two ppl. Their Shiro is delicious.

Das Lokal ist an sich nett, zentral gelegen und mit schönen Holzmöbeln eingerichtet. Das Essen ist leider geschmacklich völlig belanglos, sehr schlicht und in unserem Fall auch noch schlecht gekocht. Wir haben verschiedene Speisen bestellt: Gefüllte Teigtaschen als Vorspeise (das beste), Rindfleisch, Huhn und eine Platte mit einem Mix an Angeboten. Das Essen kam schnell, auch nett drapiert, aber das Rindfleisch war hart wie Schuhsohle, die Linsen ein Brei, in dem auch das Huhn untergegangen ist. Auf dem Teller war üppig eine Art Pfannkuchen ausgebreitet, teils gerollt, der leider aussah wie eine uralte Auslegware und nach nichts schmeckte. Überhaupt hatte das Essen keinen Pfiff, keine besondere Note, kein interessantes Gewürz. Es ist wohl die billigste Art, satt zu werden, wobei die Portionen nicht groß sind. Wer den "Teppich" nicht essen will, muss anschließend woanders nachlegen. In den Teigtaschen waren Linsen. Das Essen scheint aus immer den selben Grundzutaten zu bestehen und ist maximal eintönig. Wir sind von einer jungen Frau sehr aufmerksam und freundlich versorgt worden, allerdings setzte sie voraus, dass wir mit ihr Englisch sprechen. Was uns vom Hocker gehauen hat: Sie präsentierte uns am Ende eine handschriftliche Rechnung! Kein Kassenbon, eine Kartenzahlung war nicht möglich. Das riecht nach Steuerbetrug und ist sehr ärgerlich! Abgesehen davon liegt das Restaurant bei billigsten Zutaten im höheren Preissegment, was überhaupt nicht gerechtfertigt erscheint. Wir werden jedenfalls nicht mehr dort hingehen und vermutlich nie wieder in ein äthiopisches Restaurant.

super friendly and the nicest staff possible with amazing food

Our good expectations for the Lalibela Cultural Spezial were greatly disappointed: much of the platter was lukewarm and overall underwhelming, in particular too much gristle. When we mentioned the temperature of the food we received the bizarre explanation that we had "come too soon" (we were the first in the restaurant after opening on a Sunday afternoon). At €25 per person it was also way overpriced, it should have been €15-17 maximum. There are plenty other options in the area, we wish we had avoided this place. A real shame.

Tried Ethiopian cuisine for the first time. I have to say... sooo delicious. Tender meat, good taste, nice spiciness. The portion is great. And a very nice hostess. If I'm in Berlin again, I'll definitely come here again.

Very delicious but super small portions for the price. I’ve been a big Schillerkiez Lalibela fan for years and this was my first time visiting this location so I was a bit disappointed of how tiny was each of the presented stews was. Prices have went up but portions became smaller, sad :(

The food tasted good, but you shouldn't be hungry. Given the prices, it can be a little more than a side dish with a few cheese crumbs and lettuce leaves for the small portion of meat. We had to eat something again afterwards and somehow felt ripped off. Very nice but the handwriting of the handwritten invoice...

A typical Ethiopian place in the center of Berlin, we chose the tasting menu and were amazed by the culinary culture. Super generous portions. The waitress, Sable, was incredibly friendly and patient, serving us in the best way possible. The evening ended with a traditional Ethiopian drink shared with her and her colleague. Fantastic! We will definitely be back!

Service was very friendly, but the price-performance ratio wasn't right for us at all. The portions are quite small and we paid around €9 for a starter with two fried dumplings, even though there wasn't much more than lentils in the dumpling. The main course was quite tasty, but not a large portion for €18. Generally a lot of money for very little food, which didn't blow us away in terms of taste

In the beginning, I was a bit sceptical, but after tasting the food, everything changed. The food was fantastic! Exotvi flavours are made with love. The service was also exceptional.

Went there today and will definitely come back! . The food was super tasty and very diverse. The prices are also fair. We didn't have to wait long for our food and the service was also very friendly. I really recommend anyone who would like to eat East African food to come by.

There was a dominant smell like toilet in the entire restaurant. The food was ok, but overpriced. The service was poor, drinks were forgotten, taken back and still charged. Our bill was higher than it should have been and we received no receipt.

Please fix the sewage system! Unpleasant eating out as the restaurant smelled like residual waters. For that, and because prices charged do not coincide with the sophistication of the dishes,I would definitely not return. No receipt given btw.

Our meal started with the Sambusa appetizer. These were not only extremely fresh, but also perfectly crispy. For our main course we chose Mahberawi, a large platter for four people. This consisted of a colorful mix of vegetarian and various meat dishes, served on traditional injera bread. The bread was visually reminiscent of a gray crepe and tasted pleasantly of sourdough - an exciting and interesting base for the various dishes. Unfortunately the chicken was cold, which was a bit disappointing and slightly spoiled the overall impression of the main course. The food tasted good overall, but we found the portions to be rather small for the price. All in all, the evening was okay, but we would have expected a little more for the price-performance ratio.

Tasty Ethiopian food and generous portions. Both the indoor and outdoor sitting is so charming! I ordered an extra portion for take out. Wonderful service on top of it all.

First and foremost, it’s essential to clarify that you were not present during our conversation with your Eritrean staff member. At no point did we demand that she speak Amharic. She mentioned that she primarily speaks Dutch, and we accepted that. However, the manner in which we were treated made us feel unwelcome in your establishment. We did not come to your restaurant with any expectations beyond enjoying a meal and the atmosphere with our family. We were there to appreciate the experience, not to be subjected to judgment or exclusion. We understand that language barriers can occur, but the dismissive attitude we encountered was disappointing and unexpected. Your response to our concerns feels unprofessional and does not reflect the hospitality we hoped for. This version is more nuanced, expressing your feelings clearly while maintaining a respectful tone.

We recently visited Lalibela Restaurant - Taste of Ethiopia, Kreuzberg! in Berlin, hoping to enjoy some authentic Ethiopian food. However, we were met with an unwelcoming attitude from the server, which made us decide to leave before even sitting down. Although the server could speak English, Amharic she refused to speak with us in anything other than German, saying, "I only speak German. She not even try to speak Amharic In a multicultural city like Berlin, it's disappointing to encounter such a lack of hospitality. We chose to dine elsewhere where we felt more welcomed. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously to create a more inclusive environment for all guests.

Food was tasty, ambiance and service was okay, however the prices per dish are not less, while the portions were a little small especially for the price.

There were three of us visiting. For me it was the first time. Now I know, you eat together from a platter appropriate to the number of people, which is served under a warm straw hat. You can get a fork if you ask. It was unimaginable for me to eat from the same plate with two other people, so I got a singles plate with 3 different vegetables. Underneath the vegetables is a sour-tasting but soft bread that you can probably use to somehow roll up the vegetables with your fingers and put them in your mouth. The other two had chosen a plate with 10 varieties in pairs. Then I got some of that. It was all very, very tasty! I found that the description on the internet in the menu did not, in my opinion, adequately explain that you are basically eating the same dish with several people. It is helpful if you can order food and drinks in English. You sit at small tables inside, where there was just room for the 10-plate and the 1-plate. In summer, of course, you sit outside. The tables were well filled on Friday evening. After eating, you wash your fingers in the toilet if you didn't get enough napkins. There is vegetarian food or with meat. It was a great experience, great!

The restaurant has very nice atmosphere. The food tasted good. I liked the sambusa it is similar to samosa back in India just it has filling of lentils. The variety of lentils served along with injera were great. This all was accompanied with salad. Overall loved it..

In the middle of Kreuzberg and yet you sit nicely “in the countryside” on the wide sidewalk. The staff is super friendly and the beautifully served food is delicious!

One of the best meals I ever had!

Service is professional and polite, made me feel welcome; food is ok, not the best Ethiopian I've had in Berlin, but still worth trying if you are in the area. Vegetarian plate to share was more than enough for two people. I really like that, as per Ethiopian culture you have to use your hands to eat, also suggested by the waitress when we ordered. The place looks colourful and cheerful, nice atmosphere and music in the background. Price was appropriate. Overall not bad if you are around, but not a place I would go out of my way for.

Went there for dinner with 4 people. The service was good and the ambience was fine. For the prices quoted, the food was absolutely subpar. 2 x starters with 2 small dumplings filled with lentils, small salad and 2 dips - 7€ each - ok 1L house wine 20€ - very sour despite the hint of honey (ok, tastes can be different) 2x Vegan Platter - The bread is also very sour (here too, tastes can vary, but for us it was absolutely inedible because it was cold, fresh is different). Lentils, kale and potatoes also only warmed to cold. - would have been reasonable at €17 if it wasn't cold. Then the cracker 2x meat dish, same dish as vegan dishes, only with 1 small drumstick, and a small spoonful of braised beef, plus an egg. Except for the lower leg, the food was also lukewarm - cold. Absolutely overpriced in terms of quality for €25. Summary: The food is very well seasoned. Unfortunately, due to the lack of temperature, a lot of it is lost. Eating with your hands is an experience you can have here. In this case, serving the dishes on bread is not possible. This makes the bread soggy and what's left is a mixed mush that you have to laboriously incorporate with your fingers - which makes a huge mess. This could be changed if the bread was served separately like at the Indian restaurant. Warm cloths to clean your hands or wet wipes afterwards would have been desirable. You can expect this service, especially when you pay €140 for 4 people.

The food is not to everyone's taste. It tastes rather neutral and the sauces are very similar. As someone who is used to spicy food, this meal seemed rather bland to me. We had the mixed platter as a taste journey through several dishes. I thought 25 euros per person was quite a lot considering what you get for it in an Indian or Thai restaurant. The bread that came with it was very sour and looked like gray crepes. I tried it once but I wouldn't go there again. What was positive was that it was beautifully presented and there was traditional coffee on the house. Unfortunately, sitting on the sidewalk on Ohlauer Str. is very loud and the smell of marijuana accompanies you throughout the evening. But the restaurant can't do anything about it...

Everything was on point. Service was friendly, food tasted great but….. my friend and I got violently ill about 45 mins after the meal. Ok that happens. I tried to call the restaurant for two days to inform them that they made 2 guest violently ill 45 mins after eating at your restaurant. I called for two days bc the phone was not working, I find this unacceptable. This is was a celebration meal and mind you it wasn’t cheap. 60 for two people is a proper meal that should be an experience. Our experience was painful in hindsight. I will not be going back to this restaurant anytime soon. Again the service was wonderful, friendly and nice. You must having a functional phone.

The food is really tasty and the service is really good. However, its very over priced to be honest. We spent almost 50 euros for a lunch for two people including two small cokes. Apart from it being very expensive I highly recommend the food.
