Kreta …bei Giorgos in Göttingen

Not a bad place, but problems with organization. Out of three orders, 2 were executed incorrectly: instead of squid, I was brought shrimp (after 15-20 minutes, they replaced it with squid), and instead of French fries, my friend was brought rice (then they brought potatoes, free of charge). The rosé wine was very tasty, I also liked the fish. The squid was a bit rubbery, and the potatoes, I can swear, were not baked, but fried. The saganaki tasted much better than it looked. The service was friendly. The prices are not high.

My old review was removed. Aha, so that's how it works. There's no such thing as dealing with criticism. I had simply stated objectively that the food tasted okay, but it didn't appeal to me. Then I wrote that we had to wait a long time for our food, which was true. I also wrote that the price-performance ratio wasn't right for me... Reason for comment deletion: Defamation (freedom of expression seems to be over). The owner was also rude, so someone can't handle criticism. But hey, there are plenty of delicious alternatives in Göttingen 🙃👌

The people there are very nice. The atmosphere is okay, not particularly cozy, but decent. The food (feta cheese and pork loin) was okay. Nothing outstanding. However, I'm not a big fan of Greek restaurants in general (even in Göttingen). But of the ones I've tried, this was the best. The other two weren't really convincing either (Hellas, Athens).

New owner, but just as good, or maybe even better... Big praise for/to the boss and his team!!!!! I called at the last minute, basically, and ordered two gyros to pick up, mentioning at the same time that I had to drive all the way across town first. I didn't have a "I'm glad, and please don't rush, it'll all be ready in 15 minutes!" Honestly, it was already closed... Since I hardly ever drink alcohol, I also got an ice-cold Coke to take with me... The food tasted absolutely top-notch! The only minor drawback was the normal-sized portion... JUST MY SUBJECTIVE OPINION (I'm not really thin, and with gyros, you can't have too much ^^). It's a perfectly normal amount!! They also have a large and comfortable covered terrace. Conclusion: outstanding and highly recommended!

We've been coming to Giorgios regularly for a long time and are always impressed! The food is lovingly prepared and tastes delicious, the service is fast and courteous, and you feel at home from the very first minute. A definite recommendation for Greek food in Göttingen! Parking is a bit tricky to find, but a quick bite before and after your meal is good for your health (and the delicious ouzo is also very helpful!!)

Very friendly owners/operators. As complete newcomers, we received a warm welcome. There was hardly any waiting time for drinks and food. The meat was delicious.

We didn't like it; the salad was pleasing to the eye and the taste was 0 points. The rice was strange, like it had been warmed up in water. The bifteki didn't look as usual, and the taste wasn't good either, which the one tablespoon of tzatziki couldn't make up for. The ambiance was average, a bit dated. The service was quite pleasant.

The "Kreta" is no longer what it was under Evangelos, the restaurant's former "creator": Gyros and suvlaki were delicious, taramas as an appetizer was very mediocre and not chilled, and tzatziki as a side dish was miniature. The beer was too warm. The service, provided by a young man, was very friendly and attentive. Disproportionately expensive. At €50 plus a 10 percent tip, there wasn't even a digestive ouzo on the house, as was the case in the past. Giorgos isn't mentally at one with his guests—pure routine.

It was our first time there and we were impressed by the quality of the food and the friendliness. We'll definitely be back.

A beautifully located restaurant in Geismar/Göttingen. The food is typically Greek and highly recommended. The service is very attentive and friendly, and guests are treated with exemplary care. The ambiance is generally fine, except for an oversized, artificial vine hanging from the ceiling at the back of the restaurant. While clean, it doesn't really match the rest of the space. I've been there several times and will happily return and recommend this restaurant to others.

I was a regular customer at Kreta for over 30 years, and I refer to the former owners as "friends." Every customer request was accommodated, and for example, extra onions weren't charged extra. I even ordered several times a month for pickup... I've known the "old" atmosphere for over 40 years; my parents took me there as a child, and it's a part of my past. So, for first-time customers, the criticisms about the atmosphere may be justified, but for ME, the new owners are more the problem... I used to almost always order gyros with fries and lots of onions, and I got a mega-tasty and generous portion for around €12. TODAY, you can't get anything for that anymore—neither tasty, nor generous, nor good value for money!!! For decades and generations, "Kreta" was the best Greek restaurant in Göttingen. The new owners have retained NOTHING of this tradition and want to redo everything according to their own concept. This might work for new customers, but many of our regular customers aren't buying it, just like me! It's a shame, a real shame, because I haven't had a gyro like it since...!!!

I'd also like to share my experiences. Crete at Giorgos offers a very special, authentic Greek cuisine. All dishes are freshly prepared and taste truly Greek. Anyone who has ever been to Greece will know what I mean. This is the taste of home. From the spicy souvlaki to the creamy tzatziki – you immediately notice that everything here is prepared with love, passion, and traditional recipes. Each dish is beautifully prepared and presented on the plate. After all, eating is a feast for the eyes. I would also like to emphasize the friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The staff is always very welcoming and makes every effort to ensure that all guests feel comfortable. The service truly keeps each guest in mind. Every time I visit, I feel like I'm visiting good friends, which makes the visit very pleasant. I genuinely don't understand all the negative critics who regularly and deliberately post here. They probably didn't even eat there – it's a shame you really missed out and should go back. Some criticize the service or the atmosphere, but I think these reviews are often subjective or based on misunderstandings. For me personally, the authenticity of the cuisine and the taste of the dishes are the most important thing – and everything in that respect is 5 stars. So if you're craving authentic Greek food and open to a cuisine with a lot of heart and tradition, then Giorgios' Crete is definitely worth a visit. It's a place that conveys Greek culture and cuisine in a completely honest way. Oh, and in case anyone wants to know – the portions are generous and plentiful, so you'll always be well-fed. All prices are very fair, especially considering the quality and freshness of the food. The entire place is very clean and well-maintained. And if you ask nicely, you're not allowed to enter the kitchen, but you can take a look and greet and praise the amazing cook. I always feel like I'm in Greece, so at home ;-)

Really, really nice. And kid-friendly. This was one of the better Greek restaurants I've been to recently. The food portion was just right, and it came really quickly. The gyro was nice and juicy and not too salty.

Too expensive for the portion sizes and nothing special. The fried onions were tough. A drink with a strange aftertaste, which we complained about, ended up on the bill. The ambiance is very dated. Horrible wipe-clean tablecloths with a 70s charm. We won't be back.

I am very disappointed. The salad is disgusting from the can, the meat is incredibly tough and the potato slices are hard. Rotten flowers on the windowsill and the atmosphere is not very nice. I went to the previous owner very often and he was a thousand times better.

A while ago, I ordered gyros here, but unfortunately, the food smelled VERY bad. Absolutely disgusting! :(

A culinary trip to Greece! I am always absolutely thrilled with my visit to Crete. As soon as I entered the restaurant, I felt like I was on vacation thanks to the warm welcome and the cozy atmosphere. The menu offers a huge selection of Greek specialties - from fresh tzatziki to crispy gyros to tender lamb fillet! I would particularly like to emphasize the excellent service: attentive, friendly and yet pleasantly unobtrusive. If you want to enjoy authentic Greek cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere, this is the right place for you. I'll definitely be back!

The food didn't taste like anything other than salt. It was carelessly arranged. The waiter was quite hectic. The ambience is getting old and could really be overhauled. The volume in the restaurant is too loud and I should also mention: the toilets really leave a lot to be desired. Very unpleasant. A failure for us and never again!

Other than the fact that our food took forever to arrive, I can't complain at all. Nice, always on the move, fulfilled all special requests. The youngest received his extra plate of rice noodles, which he ate with enthusiasm. 🥄🛩 😄 And it was plenty. My gyros mountain didn't get any less. 🤣 All I can say is a great restaurant. 👍👍👍

Edit: since the change of ownership we no longer find the food as tasty as before, and the selection of dishes is no longer as nice. Always delicious, I've been going here with my family for years. The staff are always super friendly and the children always get gummy bears and the adults an ouzo.

We ate here today for the first time since there was a new owner. We knew the "old" owner for almost 24 years and ate there often. The menu has been changed a bit, some things have been left out (unfortunately including my beloved Ithaca schnitzel) and new things have been added. My husband and son had gyros with fries and Metaxa sauce, I had chicken with garlic herbs and fries, my son's girlfriend had bifteki filled with sheep's cheese and bread. The new owners were very friendly, accommodating and very nice. We felt very welcome. The food was really very tasty. We will definitely come here more often. You're great, keep it up 👍

We trusted the recessions and were not disappointed, quite the opposite. From the welcome to the service, warm, friendly and very attentive. Even though it was our first time there, we felt like regulars. The food was great (including octopus salad, grilled calamari). Definitely a recommendation.

Small home restaurant. New owner who has taken over the old tradition of the predecessors. Typical Greek cuisine. Many regular customers recommended reservations due to the location. Staff is friendly. Have been there many times before and you can still eat well there now. Prices are slowly above average for comparable restaurants, but still within reasonable limits. Portion sizes were once larger, as was the decrease in food. For most people, one main course is sufficient. The star rating is always based on my personal comparison at the level of comparable restaurants.

We ate there for the first time today because friends said we would have a nice meal there. I have to honestly say never again... I ordered gyros gratinated with metaxa sauce. And there was a cream sauce and unfortunately it had nothing to do with metaxa. My wife wanted to have a Jägerschnitzel with fries, but not pork meat but chicken, what came was a hand schnitzel with fries, no Jäger sauce 😡 Upon request, the Jäger sauce came but unfortunately a powder product and a few champions in it, also a finished product for €4 extra.

Was there for the first time. Plus + very, very friendly and attentive + Portions completely sufficient + Prices still ok + even those who pick up get an ouzo straight away Minus - Gyros need more seasoning - the menu actually says Zi... sauce. It doesn't work at all. - Takeaway food is packaged in foamed plastic. Please change immediately. - The ambience still needs work. - The ashtray is right in front of the entrance. Everyone who goes in and out has to go through the smoke. I'll definitely come back again because I enjoyed it. If nothing has been done about the negative points, then of course a third visit is out of the question.

Authentischer Grieche! Sehr lecker und freundlich. Der Chef macht alles möglich und gibt immer einen aus.

Die Portionen sind sehr klein im vergleich zu früher, ja gestiegene Kosten hin oder her aber das rechtfertigt nicht die Portionen zu verkleinern UND den Preis anzuheben. Im Vergleich zu Januar wo ich das letzte mal dort gegessen habe hat es sich extrem verschlechtert. Das Gyros und die Pommes waren nicht sehr warm, das Personal unaufmerksam oder desinteressiert. Schade, war wohl das letzte Mal dort.

Anders aber auch sehr-sehr gut bewertet wie mein Vor-Bewerter Patrick: denn hier kocht die Ehefrau und das ganz frisch mit wirklich Herz ! Und endlich mal auch etwas MEHR als die altbekannten Gerichte - es gibt ab und zu frischen Taramo-Salat und das Mussaka ( Moussaka ) ist das BESTE, was ich selbst verglichen in Griechenland gegessen habe !! PS eben nicht mehr so Standard wie der Vorbesitzer, aber noch das schöne Ambiente auf der Terasse unter dem bestimmt 40 Jahre alten Weinreben :)

Unfassbar freundliche Bedienung und besonders guter Umgang mit Kleinkindern. Wir haben einen sehr angenehmen und ruhigen Aufenthalt genossen und kommen gerne wieder!

Seit dem die Besitzer gewechselt sind lohnt es sich nicht mehr viel zu kleine Portion rechtfertigt den Preis nicht und es schmeckt auch nicht mehr. Das einzige was gut ist ist der Service.

Der nette Grieche von nebenan ist leider kein Vergleich mehr zu früher. Portionen winzig, kein Geschmack am Gyros, Getränke ohne Kohlensäure und dem Preis auf keinen Fall angemessen. Der Service war sehr freundlich, kann allerdings das miserable Essen nicht ausgleichen. Bitte wieder mehr wie früher.

Sehr schönes Restaurant, richtig nette und lustige Bedienung! Auf der Terrasse fühlt man sich fast wie wirklich auf Kreta. Sehr lecker war es auch ! Wir kommen definitiv wieder.

Nach gut 1 Jahr im Juni 2023 das 2. Mal seit dem Inhaberwechsel dort gewesen und im Vergleich zum 1. Besuch angenehm überrascht. Service sehr freundlich wie immer und der ganze Ablauf klappte perfekt, was beim 1. Besuch nicht unbedingt der Fall war. Qualität des Essens wirklich gut, es war sehr lecker. Portionen könnten für den Preis ein klein wenig größer sein (Souvlakispieß auf dem Grillteller nur etwa ½ so groß, wie es bei den meisten Griechen Standard ist), aber es passt schon noch. Anregung für die Karte: Grillteller mit Gyros, Souvlaki & Leber. Den gab es früher, wurde beim Inhaberwechsel aber wohl leider von der Karte genommen. Insgesamt war es ein netter Abend und wir kommen gerne wieder.

Absolut NICHT MEHR das was es einmal war ! Portionen viel zu klein für den Preis. Das Gyros hat einfach wirklich keine würze mehr und auch keine Qualität ! Positiv wäre zu erwähnen das die Bedienung wirklich sehr freundlich ist und au h nur deshalb 2 Sterne 🌟 WIRKLICH SEHR SCHADE
