Really good food, great service

Well, we were once again very disappointed. The steak was overcooked. I wanted salad instead of chips, which was what came. Steak, chips and salad extra, which I also had to pay for. The chips, of course, ended up in the bin. Our complaint was dismissed with a shrug of the shoulders, and something similar has happened to me the last few times. Two years ago, I was thrilled, but I think the chef has changed. In conclusion, I won't be coming back. I'd rather go to the 11 Apostel in Hattingen for two euros more; I get a really juicy steak there. Unfortunately, I'm invited there next Sunday and I'm already dreading it. The service is very friendly.

I'm not sure if the waiter was having a bad day or just "taking it out" on me because he didn't like me. We were invited to an event yesterday where, for once, they also served Coca-Cola, which is apparently unusual in this establishment. Anyway, everyone ordered their drinks, and I specifically chose Coca-Cola. He brought them to me each time with a remark like "The Coke Lady," and when it came to paying and I went up to the front to pay for table 100, he said again, "Oh yeah, the only Coca-Cola Lady." Sorry, it's none of your business, but I can't tolerate the citric acid in Pepsi and don't really want to justify myself in that regard, but sorry, what was that all about yesterday???? Steaks and potato gratin were delicious, vegan desserts too, vegan schnitzel unfortunately a bit dry, and my Coca-Cola was excellent, even though I felt the need to check first to see if anyone had spit in it. Even if I didn't like her waiter from the very first second, I shouldn't have noticed it as a guest. It's a shame that was the case.

I was there for breakfast. It was very cozy, the service was friendly, and they made sure everything was there. The coffee was freshly brewed and delicious. I highly recommend it.

In any case, highly recommended for international, home-style cooking in a slightly upscale segment. The staff are very friendly, the menu changes regularly with fantastic, beautifully prepared delicacies, and a greeting from the kitchen has always been offered to shorten the wait for the food (around 15 to 20 minutes). There was three of us there last Sunday and there was something for everyone, even special requests could be accommodated. It is very clean and there are also common rooms and bowling alleys. Dogs are welcome. The prices are normal for what is on offer. There is a courtyard garden for good weather. The restaurant and courtyard garden are accessible for wheelchair users. It is advisable to make a reservation as it is often very busy at peak times. The desserts are also highly recommended. Thank you for the enjoyable hours.

We were there on Tuesday, schnitzel day. For 11.95, you get really good schnitzel served in many variations. The side salad was also very good. We sat in the beer garden, which was nice and shady, but sometimes had to wait quite a while for the very friendly service. Unfortunately, I can't comment on the food alongside the schnitzel. The beer was poured properly, not two fingers under the gauge as is often the case these days. We will definitely be back again. Update: We were back here after a long time. We sat in the beer garden again, and the service was immediate. Drinks and food arrived promptly; the staff was very attentive and courteous. The food was really good; for vegetarians, the Plant Umami Burger is a definite recommendation. We really enjoyed coming here again; the food is good and the service is excellent. And the prices are right, too!

The chanterelle cream sauce was the best mushroom sauce I've ever had in North Rhine-Westphalia. The shop impresses with its dedication to presenting good food. Chef C. Spanier delivered an absolutely magnificent performance.

I've been coming here regularly for breakfast with a friend for about 2.5 years now. It's a buffet. You can also get as much coffee or tea as you like! It's constantly being refilled, and as soon as something runs out, it's gone. I haven't been here for lunch or dinner yet. I highly recommend the breakfast buffet.

We ate there with some friends a few days ago. The service was very friendly and attentive, but not intrusive. The food was truly delicious, and we didn't have to wait too long. The menu was beautifully designed, with something for everyone, from vegetarian and vegan to a nice selection of meat and fish. Our highlight was truly the chef. After dinner, he came to our table and introduced himself as Christian. Super friendly, not intrusive! In our opinion, he truly deserves a star, not only for his incredibly delicious food, but also for his incredible friendliness at the table. The atmosphere was super cozy, and we had a great time chatting. Highly recommended!

The Kolpinghaus offers a beautiful ambience, but I have a small suggestion: your parties with Volker and Marc are first class, but it would be a nice touch if Marc was on the flyer and tickets, because he does just as great work. The best proof was the 80/90 party, where he was also missing from the flyer.

I went there for breakfast. Even though they served a buffet, it was very quiet, and the staff were super friendly. The food was delicious, with a wide selection and freshly prepared. I'd love to go back!

We were here on Mother's Day and were very disappointed. I had reserved a table online in advance. When we got there, we didn't get a menu; instead, there was a set menu on the table. They could have specified that online. So we could only choose from the menu, most of which I didn't like or was far too expensive. So we all had the schnitzel with fried potatoes and salad. For starters, we had asparagus cream soup, which was okay. The salad dressing was too sour for me, the fried potatoes were partially burnt, and the flavor wasn't that great. They could have skipped the dessert. I can't even identify what it was, and the size was ridiculous. Unfortunately, I didn't take any photos. We would have liked to change restaurants, but on Mother's Day it's hard to get a table without a reservation. It was a disappointing visit.

It was my first time at the Kolpinghaus for Steak Day. I tried an onion steak for €19.90. It was juicy and well-seasoned. Service was friendly, the chef was nice. I'd love to come back, not just for Steak Day.

We were there with a larger group of 13 people. Drinks came slowly, we ordered bruschetta as a starter. It was a baguette soaked in oil, it tasted strongly of fried potatoes, with two cocktail tomatoes on top, a bit of parmesan and balsamic vinegar, the rancid oil was unfortunately the main taste. For the main course I had Madagascar rump steak, which was ordered medium, unfortunately it came through, the fried potatoes were burnt and not at all seasoned, the bacon and beans were okay, the sauce for the steak was forgotten, the side salad came after the meal. My wife's schnitzel, Waldman's schnitzel, was a frozen schnitzel with no taste whatsoever, the breading was mushy and bland, the mushrooms were fresh the only positive thing about the meal. Drinks came slowly. Price/performance ratio absolutely not justified. There won't be a second time.

The restaurant is very cozy, the waiters very friendly and attentive. What was absolutely not good was the food! Expensive, like everywhere these days, but the portions were sometimes manageable and...where did the chef get his training!? I had Caesar salad with chicken breast. Served in a deep plate (soup plate size) with two whole chicken breast fillets on top. 1. The meat is usually cut into strips and 2. It was difficult to cut it lying on top of the salad. A larger plate would have been appropriate! On top of that, the Caesar salad thrives on the sauce with slices of cheese... Both were just overcooked!!! My friend had Krüstchen for €14.50 2 mini schnitzels pounded completely thin, smothered in breadcrumbs in proportion, and fried to death in the deep fryer!!! There was also a hint of side salad and two fried eggs (the only thing that worked). The few fried potatoes that came with it were partly burnt. The place is great for a beer or a larger gathering, but nothing more. You can skip the food!

Just ate at the Kolpinghaus with my kids. Outside in the beer garden. Beautiful. The food and service were perfect. It couldn't be friendlier. I was last there a few years ago. It was okay then, too. But this time I absolutely recommend it.

Went for the breakfast buffet on Thursday Were there at nine o'clock and it was just great. Soft-boiled eggs, salmon, scrambled eggs, dessert, coffee, everything was great. The buffet was prepared with a lot of love by the chef Markus.

The food was super delicious 😋. Unfortunately we almost had to beg for drinks. There were only 2 drinks in 2.5 hours. No order was placed for dessert. We were given a menu, but no waitress took the order. 3. Drink was not served but was on the bill. Tables were not cleared. They could have earned a lot more from us. Once and never again. Too bad. But not all of the food goes away.

During our last visits we noticed that the service had deteriorated significantly. The staff seems to be overwhelmed and too few. You have to make yourself known several times and sometimes wait a long time. On our last visit we were served the wrong drinks and there was no response when we complained about this. There were drinks on the bill that we didn't have (we were reimbursed after we informed us). The food is still very good and the atmosphere is nice. If the service becomes more reasonable and attentive again, then there will be more stars.

Went there for Christmas dinner last night. Very, very tasty. Dessert could have been a little more (it was just too tasty). There were 5 people there. There was something on the menu for everyone. Starter two different soups. The consomme has a nice addition of beef, which you have to look for in some places. Service great. We didn't have to wait long for our food either. Will definitely come back to eat mussels. Kind regards to the team, it was a lovely evening.

I had dinner with friends at the Kolpinghaus Höntrop on December 15, 2024. The goulash soup was OK. My main course should be goose breast. Goose had a few years on the lid, skin was flabby and the fillet was missing. Red cabbage completely burnt and just sour. Dessert was ice cream with belis, ice cream had frost burn and wasn't very attractive either. I came here on a recommendation and am very disappointed. Quality and price performance don't match. Service wasn't really interested in all of this at all. After this evening I would not recommend this store. P.S. I am 62 years old and a chef with a master's certificate

Food quality was “okay” at best, deer ragout lacked the deer. Unfortunately only 5-6 small pieces of meat. Spaetzle from a package, cranberries from a jar and served quite carelessly. At a price around €23 I expect something different. What put me off was that I was served dirty glasses twice. Once sticky and unfortunately on the second glass there was a black streak of dirt in the glass itself. That shouldn't have been overlooked! All in all, unfortunately not recommended.

We were there with a group. Hardly anyone liked the food. The schnitzel is small and fluffy, the fries are cold, the steak is basically raw and and and... oh yes, the salads from the day before yesterday. It was neither cozy nor tasty in the Kolpinghaus. It's better to go to the Ikea canteen ;)

Had dinner there yesterday with 6 people because it was Schnitzel Day. What can I say....waited 60 minutes for the food, no service anywhere to ask for drinks, the portion of the schnitzel dishes is a joke, could easily pass for a children's plate, didn't get what was ordered and that best for last......two fragments of a plate about 5 cents in size in the salad. You can only say once and never again

A restaurant with an adjoining event room. Nice and cozy...good bourgeois. Difficult parking situation as it is located directly on the main road. No wheelchair parking spaces, for events you have to travel longer to the location by car due to resident parking.

Well-stocked breakfast buffet with sausage and cheese platters, various jams, raw vegetables, tomatoes/mozzarella, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs with bacon and sausages, salmon, various cereals, rolls, croissants and various types of bread, including coffee and tea. The service was friendly and attentive. The plates were constantly being refilled. The price of 14.90 euros is completely ok.

It used to be great. Only for old people today! Service is not enough! Dance into May event. You had to go to the counter yourself. Otherwise there would have been one drink in 2 hours. Was also there for the breakfast buffet. It's ok, cheap but there's also very little selection. Rolls and other things were constantly empty, so you had to be quick when it was refilled... I don't go there anymore.

We celebrated my parents' golden wedding anniversary at the Kolpinghaus Höntrop. The tables were festively decorated for the occasion. The food was very tasty and just as we ordered it. The soup came to the table hot. The process had been good. Our guests always had enough to drink. It was a very good decision to celebrate the occasion there. Service was really quick and attentive, but the food for €17.90 is almost a joke. Two mini schnitzels and a small handful of fries. I don't know that from other Kolping houses. The portion of fried potatoes was even smaller. It feels like two triplets on the plate. For €13.90 like on Schnitzel Day, all of this would have been ok, but unfortunately it is not acceptable.

Very good food and nice staff. We ordered dishes with chanterelles from the seasonal menu. Just good. Because of the nice weather we sat in the beer garden. Very cozy. The same applies indoors too. Constantly interesting events. Highly recommended.

Very disappointed with the gastronomy. We had dinner with 8 people. When the food came, 2 were cold and 1 was missing, the main one came later. However, it was swapped. The pasta dish was inedible, it was swimming in a pool of grease and was immediately returned. After we informed the service staff we were ignored. There were a few little things, but it would take too long. When it came time to pay, even the uneaten food had to be paid for. When we asked the management, we were told that there was no one in the house. So that was the last visit for us.

We were there for the very first time today, for Schnitzel Day, and we were really excited. It was really great, both in terms of the ambience and the food itself as well as the very friendly and quick service. Only recommended...

Dance in the May events was okay for people over 50 who want to party like they did 20 years ago. However, the service was completely overwhelmed and didn't know what drinks were available (there was no menu either) so it was quicker if you got them yourself at the bar. The price for the buffet was okay, but in my opinion it was not sufficient or available for too short a time for the number of guests.

Event is a complete disaster! No staff. Waited forever for drinks and then was rudely sent away by the counter staff! If there are no staff, you shouldn't offer an event!!!!
