I'm shocked by some of the negative reviews here. If you research the concept beforehand, you know what to expect. That's exactly what I did, and the information on the website was sufficient, and I got exactly what I expected. There are tables of various sizes set up on the terrace with grills. The Kniften (knife-shaped sausages) and the appetizers were perfectly fine in terms of quality and quantity. The value for money is good, and anyone who claims otherwise should calculate what an appetizer, main course, and dessert cost in a restaurant. With two appetizers, one Kniften (knife-shaped sausage), and a dessert, you'll definitely be well-satiated. Due to the heat from the grill, you might be thirstier than in other restaurants, and that's really the only criticism. Of course, the drink prices were also visible beforehand, but I hadn't considered the increased thirst caused by the heat. A beer (0.5 l) or a Coke of the same size for €6 each is simply too high, sorry. I even believe that slightly lower drink prices would increase sales and ultimately profits. Overall, the concept is great and a lot of fun. Fortunately, it hasn't become a franchise, so it remains unique. Because a franchise concept always ultimately loses quality and exclusivity.

Childhood memories come alive at the Knüppelknifte. Love it! The ambiance is unbeatable, especially in the evening – an open fire, good drinks, and soul food that slows things down. We always enjoy going there, and the option to grill prawns, steak, etc., rounds out the concept and offers something for everyone. The service was always very friendly, attentive, and helpful on each of our visits.

Phew...first and last time there. So ridiculously overpriced. They're charging prices beyond belief for a bit of yeast dough with a minimalist filling. And then there are the equally exorbitant drink prices. 6 euros for a 0.5 Coke. Bottom line, it's not enough to fill you up; any pizzeria is significantly cheaper and more filling. Unfortunately, it's becoming more and more common in the restaurant industry to charge prices that are far removed from reality. Addendum to Knüppelkniffte's reply: If you don't realize you're doing something wrong, you blame the customer. Truly abysmal 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 And using the fact that employees are paid on time as a matter of course as an argument for these exorbitant prices is downright brazen.

The atmosphere is nice, as it's a change from the usual. However, like others, I find the prices to be excessively overpriced. I find the prices for the pastry with a small amount of filling too high, even when you factor in the high energy costs. For dessert, the whipped cream arrived much too early and had already melted by the time the stick bread was ready. It was an experience, but we wouldn't go there again for the money.

Good idea, but poorly executed. Chairs far too low for the tables, service just seems to be on the clock (out after 2:15 hours). Food okay, very little topping in the sandwiches, Appetizers poorly executed, half a corn on the cob €3.50? Bratwurst with Curry Heinz sauce €6.50? Nothing fancy behind it...

We liked the concept, but the prices for the food are really high. Unfortunately, the value for money here isn't right at all, which is especially noticeable with the stick bread. Unfortunately, it's very disappointing.

We visited the Knüppelknifte for the first time at the end of my vacation, which we had been made aware of through the media. We found the concept very interesting. The personal contact during the online reservation was also very nice. We also received a reminder email and even a WhatsApp message with instructions on how to get to the parking lot because of a VFL Bochum family day. When we got there, we were briefly lost, but after I caught a server, we were allowed to sit down for a short time and were then quickly shown to our table. I was with two teenagers because they were completely overwhelmed, so I would have preferred an introduction from the server. But we managed, and things got off to a good start. Everything was very tasty, and yes, the cheaper starters could fill you up. And yes, the first starter salad for €4 isn't necessary and could be ordered if needed (suggestion and comment). Simple stick bread without filling would also be an idea for those on a tighter budget. We tried everything, and I knew the bill would be high. But it was something out of the ordinary and far from the usual "all-you-can-eat" buffets. We'd be happy to come back and recommend it. We'd also be happy if you liked our comments. Otherwise... Keep it up!!!

Always an experience! This is our 6th visit to the Knüppelknifte – and it's a highlight every time! The food is simply delicious, the service friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere incredibly cozy. You immediately feel welcome and well looked after. For us, it's always a memorable meal experience – not just because of the taste, but also because of the overall ambiance. One thing's for sure: This was definitely not our last time. We always enjoy coming back. 2 years ago: We landed here before and after Starlight Express. And we're more than thrilled; we'll be coming more often now, even though it's an hour's drive. Beforehand, we asked ourselves: 1.) Does it really work? It does, and even if a stick threatens to open, the service is immediately there to provide first aid. 2.) Do you get full and does it taste good? Rarely have you had such delicious and exceptional food. And you definitely get full. I highly recommend not arriving close to starvation. This meal isn't rushed, but rather cozy and communicative. If you're looking for a break from our fast-paced world, this is the place for you. The exceptional service is particularly noteworthy. They take their time with their guests and place a lot of value on conversation. We spontaneously stopped by for a drink after Starlight Express and were given a more than warm welcome despite the late hour. We'll definitely be back. Can I recommend this place?! For sitting and drinking together, yes. But that's also possible in a café, bar, or ice cream parlor. For food, no. Firstly, you sit outside and run the risk of being surrounded by smokers. Secondly, the appetizer is more substantial than the main course. And the appetizer is even cheaper. The price of €12 for a rather thin stick of bread with little content shocked us and left us hungry. But we weren't willing to spend any more money. Despite having a Kulinaris card, we paid €34 for a bottle of water, two appetizers, and two sticks of bread. The service (man) was very cold and unfriendly. It was an experience, but we wouldn't go there again.

We went for the stick bread. They explain what to do very well, but there were hardly any employees around. The fire created a cozy atmosphere. However, the seating was quite far apart, which made intimate conversation impossible. The food itself was not worth the price at all. The portions were small, the toppings were more than meager, and the taste wasn't as exciting as expected. All in all, very disappointing and not worth a second visit.

The stick bread tasted good, and the table grill was superbly done. Unfortunately, the cleanliness and ambiance are comparable to a rustic clubhouse. It's not a place to linger, although we thought the concept was cool. Unfortunately, the service was extremely unsatisfactory. We had no idea which dip went with certain dishes. Everything was half-hearted. For the price, we expected more.

Unfortunately, it was a complete disappointment. Neither the quality nor the value for money were convincing – the food was mediocre at best, but significantly overpriced. The place feels unloved and lacks atmosphere, as if it had been set up casually. The staff seemed inexperienced and couldn't really help with any questions. A particularly negative aspect: There wasn't even a simple "thank you" for the tip. That's just not appropriate. I definitely won't be going back.

The concept is quite fun, but the prices are completely excessive. And the time limit at the table is completely unreasonable. And when I look at the responses to the reviews, I understand the management of this restaurant. Unfortunately, they have no idea about customer service. If you can't do something, you'd better not do it. If you come to me now with, "I couldn't find your name," then yes, I was a customer there, and I definitely won't be coming back. I actually thought that was the concept of a good restaurant, that customers would want to come back. I've never experienced such a rip-off.

The food tasted good, and the experience of toasting bread over a gas fire was quite enjoyable, but of course, it doesn't compare to stick bread from a real campfire; it has more of a simulation feel to it. Service was nice, but not really there. We always had to wait a long time until someone came out and there were only 3 tables outside with us and 2 waitresses. At -2°C the heaters couldn't be turned on, which was outrageous for something that was only offered outside. And it is quite expensive, both a fairly hefty price per bread stick, but drinks are quite small for the prices.

It was really nice with you :) Personally, I think it would be great if gluten-free stick bread were also available if ordered in advance.

Were there today and wanted to celebrate my birthday there. Unfortunately we were asked to leave the store because we didn't have a reservation. It was completely empty and you could tell that it wasn't designed to be hospitable. At first we were surprised because it was empty even though it was open upon request. Shortly afterwards, less than 2 minutes later, we were thrown out again. That was the last time. You can't call something like that a restaurant. Apparently you don't want to make money.

What kind of pizza, for example, can I get for €11.90?! It's open everywhere there and pulls super strong. We had two rounds Knifting and then wanted sweets, then the cashier came and billed us 😂 even though we had ordered something else, but well, apparently you don't want to make any money. The four of us aren't coming back, another table next to us had exactly the same problem I won't be back either. I would change something about it otherwise I might close the shop soon 😂

There were 4 of us and it was our first time there. When making the online reservation there was a note about the booking duration of 1:45 hours, but such information is regularly available for online bookings and we therefore took this as a guideline. After arriving we were seated at our table and then the drinks were taken. We were asked if they should explain to us how the visit works. The explanation was: “Here is a piece of paper, you have table number X, write down your name and tick which bread you want. Have fun.” There was no information about what to keep in mind when holding the bread in the flame or any indication that we only had 1:45 hours. The service was simply inattentive and apparently untrained, because we had to ask for more drinks. Each one after the other. When we were all looking forward to our dessert, they came to us with our wallets and told us we were already 30 minutes overtime and that we would now be charged. The organization and treatment of the guests was really unacceptable. In addition, our gas bottle also had to be changed, which only took place after a waiting time, as none of the waitresses felt responsible until we got up and asked for it. The service may not be responsible for the restaurant's concept and approach, but you should train the staff so that you feel welcome as a guest. I have worked in the catering industry for many years and have experienced a lot, but I was really disappointed here. Because there were several waitresses and only 6 tables. The price for 4 people with a total of 8 knifts, 3 starters and about 6 drinks was just under €140. No recommendation for the service.

After two hours, including a break to change the gas bottle, the evening came to an unexpected end. The price of the beef skewers is not on the menu, €87 for two people was a bit much for what was on offer. Nice idea, but we won't be coming back.

Food, service and the ambience were ok. However, you have to say that the price-performance ratio is not right for 2 people with 1 drink each, 1 bread roll and something sweet, you paid around €82. The portions were small and the sauces were served in sample bowls, but you pay a hefty price. All in all, it was a nice and expensive experience, but it won't be repeated. For the price, you'd rather go to the Strätlingshof or similar restaurants.

Stick bread as an experience in the restaurant - great implementation!

The food was very tasty, but for me it could have been more personal but the taste could have been more intense. Service was very nice and also tried very hard to make us feel comfortable. Ambiance also great, quiet and nice green surroundings. Even when the weather isn't great, you can sit comfortably, protected and warm.

We were very excited about what awaited us. Were not disappointed, well organized, tasty and just something different. It was fun, filled up, good and very nice service. Come again.

2 days of clubbing, red wine and lots of fun! For our stay in Bochum, we looked for something to eat near the stadium in advance. We found the name Knüppelknifte via Google search. The interest was piqued. The name was explained on the homepage. Mega ideas. You can eat Italian, Greek or Chinese everywhere. This is unique. Booked a table online and received confirmation with all FAQs. In the afternoon we received a call from the restaurant because access to the parking lot was closed due to the concert, but we could still have parked. The first plus points in the service area were already in the bag. After a short introduction to our almost 2 hour adventure we started. We liked it so much that we booked a table again for the next day. Super lovely and fun team, great idea and very tasty. Because some people mention the price. It's not just any kebab shop. It is a unique restaurant. Here you can get good quality, regional food with high entertainment value and great service. And the best thing about it: you slow down completely. We would love to come back. And as I found out today, it won't be long anymore 🥳 Kind regards, the northern German country bumpkins ❤️

Extremely unfriendly, just don't go there with children! We came without a reservation and were fobbed off with the fact that it was fully booked the whole afternoon and that "unfortunately there was nothing we could do" - we sat in front of a total of 4 empty tables (supposedly reserved) for over 45 minutes and the offer wasn't even taken up the children only take one round instead of 3 and we leave immediately. We would have even paid the full price. It's a shame, we were looking forward to it but unfortunately the staff is rude and absolutely hostile to children. ***Update, since I unfortunately can't answer again: I don't know who you're confusing us with, but my companion and I were calm, polite the entire time and didn't insult anyone or anything like that. Likewise, we weren't asked to leave, we paid for our drinks and decided to leave the place ourselves after it became obvious we weren't being served. Really unpleasant experience, attitude and poor service. Came 1 hr from another city to experience the fire bread and the website does not advise we need a reservation. Waited for aprox 1 hr whilst 2 tables were empty and they did not accommodate despite the fact we said we will cut our time short. That is already horrible service and bad behavior towards customers. Obviously they could have managed easily! The idea of the fire bread is great but not in this place, I recommend NOT this place!!! They still have 2 tables empty 1hr and 30 min later and they are not accommodating us. We left on our own, you did not ask us to leave! And we did not disturb others!! Just really pourly managed from the very begining. It should say on the website that you require reservations. You also tried nothing, absolutely not even let me see if I can do something, no promisses - basic service in HoReCa!!

If you're hoping for a taste explosion, you've unfortunately come to the wrong place. The ambience is quite nice, but everything around it seems a bit run down and run down. By this I mean the area of ​​the beach bar that you walk past to the restaurant. All in all, I don't think the price-performance ratio is appropriate and I was rather disappointed because the restaurant is sometimes extremely highly praised. The idea is really cool, stick bread at the table. The ambience is at least nice outside, but inside you'll find an outdated clubhouse. The selection is very limited for vegans, especially because only one dip (unfortunately I didn't like it) and no sauce is vegan. Edit: the vegan selection isn't very big when the ingredients are limited to 3 or 4 options out of 10 or 15. Only the pepper dip is labeled as vegan, nothing else. If there are more vegan options, then write about it :)

Update to owner's comment: I had a side salad and 2 kniften. To speak of a “three-course menu” is a bit too far-fetched. It's a shame, actually a nice thing, but not again under these conditions. Something completely different! A great idea to offer a stick bread restaurant. The "Kniften" were also very tasty, but I don't think the pricing was ok. We paid €75 for 5 stick breads, a chicken skewer (4 pieces of meat!), a garlic bread and three soft drinks! That's really too much, even if you take into account the nature of the event. It is also annoying that the prices for some starters cannot be viewed on the menu or online. Luckily it was tasty, but I don't think we'll come back again.

Good thing we didn't do an allyoucaneat! We stayed, but only because our group was so sociable... next time I'm in the mood for stick bread, I'd rather build a fire myself! But the food was quite good: something different! :) We sat there for 2.5 hours even though we didn't eat much. With 1 hour and 45 minutes you can't manage to eat there at the pace of the employees. We were lucky that there wasn't much going on. Otherwise we would have had to clear the table before we were even full. I eat relatively little and small portions. A savory and a sweet “knifte” were enough for me. But could have easily eaten 3 in total. This is really stupid in terms of timing. If the employees were more motivated, the timing would be right. But not like that. Wouldn't go again. It's not worth it. They only live from the cool concept and the idea.

Top location if you want to eat something different. The restaurant is located directly at the Bochum stadium. The Knifte (the stick bread) is individually configured with ingredients and then prepared by the guest on the outside terrace directly at the table. There is also a small salad with the first knife. We really liked it and, above all, tasted it. The service was super friendly and quick, thank you for that. In my opinion, the prices are quite high (€11.90 for the first Knifte with a very small side salad). Hardly anyone will get enough of it, so more kniftens will probably follow for €7.90 each. You just have to pay for the event aspect... All you can eat is only possible if everyone at the table participates. A pity.

Stick bread de luxe with friends. I am in love with this store. Near the most beautiful living room stadium in the world and well-made food! There were four of us there and the process was explained to us and how to get the best grilling results. Delicious 🍺 🍻 and welcome to the campfire. We had an incredibly nice evening at the Knüppelknifte yesterday. We went there for the first time on the recommendation of friends and everything was explained to us in detail. The food and service were really great and with the cold temperatures we had a really nice atmosphere by the fire 😍

Above all: you have a really great concept and it was a pleasure for us to visit you! There is a large selection of starters, design options for the kniften and desserts. The drink selection is also good. Everything tasted very tasty too! Friendly service staff! It's not exactly cheap, but it's an experience that you're happy to pay more for. I would only like to criticize the limited time of 1:45 hours. If there are four of you, there is only one “barbecue area” per person (which is completely fine). Unfortunately, because there are always waiting times, grilling times and eating times, four of you can't get by with the given time frame for starters, main courses and desserts. Especially with the All You Can Eat offer, which we didn't have, I can't imagine there being enough time. We would have liked to eat more, hence deducting a star.

Despite the numerous bad reviews, we traveled 50km because we wanted to get our own impression of the “experience restaurant”. Unfortunately, we discovered that all the negative comments we read before were justified. The savory stick breads (12€!!!) simply tasted like pizza rolls and the sweet ones didn't taste good at all. I have eaten in many restaurants and have never experienced such poor value for money. If you want to see for yourself, definitely don't choose the all you can eat menu, as you won't be able to eat more than 2 or at most 3 loaves of bread in the time of 1 hour and 45 minutes because of the production making the dough (before you can even grill it yourself) is incredibly time-consuming. Which I can't understand at all. But what do you expect from a restaurant that responds passive-aggressively and unprofessionally to other reviews instead of taking the numerous negative reviews to heart and perhaps making an improvement. Once and never again! You get a lot more for the money and a nicer ambience at the same time.

First time here and first time bread stick. It was relaxed, the kniften were super tasty. Service was great. Gladly again.

The food (when it came) was delicious. There were 4 of us on site. In 2.5 hours each of us was only able to eat 2 kniftens. Hunger allowed for significantly more! For a restaurant where you have to schedule the guests (you actually only have 90 minutes) there are far too few trained staff on site. The staff who were on site today tried hard, but things didn't go smoothly. The concept is great - if you didn't save on staff, there would be significantly more stars. The price is not necessarily justified. After an evening like we had today, it was way too expensive!

The atmosphere around the fire is great. The service is also great, unfortunately the price-performance ratio is rather poor. We paid €80 for 2 people…. for some bread sticks and drinks. Furthermore, the card is not very transparent, you don't know what is included and what is extra.

Essen schmeckt leider überhaupt nicht. Mitarbeiter sind freundlich und das ambiente ist super.

Das stockbrot hat immer gleich geschmeckt. Der Service war trotz mehrerer Nachfragen vergesslich und langsam. Das preis leistungs Verhältnis stimmt überhaupt nicht.

Mal etwas ganz anderes: Wir hatten einen schönen und leckeren Abend in der Knüppelkifte. Preislich schon höher, aber vollkommen angemessen. Wir kommen gerne wieder!

Schmeckt nicht leider und zudem dass der Service sehr schlecht und unfreundlich ist, würde niemanden empfehlen hier hin zu kommen.

Super gemütliche Atmosphäre. Freundliches und zuvorkommendes Personal. Erlebnisessen vom feinsten - Es ist mehr als nur Stockbrot. Immer wieder gerne!

Nettes Ambiente durch das Tischfeuer und durch das freundliche Personal. Leider überteuert für zu gering gefüllte Kniften. Wir zahlten 100€ für zwei Personen( jeder 2 Getränke, jeder insg. 2 herzhafte und 1 süße Knifte + Beilagensalat und zwei Vorspeisen) Die Datteln im Speck waren nur 5 Stück an der Zahl zur Vorspeise, das Rindersteak (4 kleine Stückchen Fleisch) am Spieß für rund 13€... insgesamt einfach zu wenig Zutaten für zu viel Geld. Jede 5. Kniftenzutat kostet 2€ extra (den Lachs haben wir vergebens im Stockbrot gesucht.) Auch die verschiedenen Marinaden oder gewürzten Teigsorten konnte man nicht heraus schmecken. Zudem gab es zu den Rindersteakstücken Beilagenbrot, welches nicht aufgebacken war. So schmeckte es zumindest. Satt waren wir leider nicht :( Wir kommen nicht wieder.

Tolle Idee und ein besonderes Erlebnis, Stockbrot am Tisch machen zu können. Man sollte viel Zeit mitbringen, denn es dauert ziemlich lange bis das Essen an den Tisch kommt, und bis es dann noch über dem Feuer fertig gebacken ist, vergeht viel Zeit. Geschmeckt hat es aber super und die Auswahl war auch gut. Der Service war freundlich, allerdings hätten wir uns etwas mehr Aufmerksamkeit gewünscht bzw. selbstständige Nachfragen nach weiteren Bestellungen – die gab es leider nicht.

Wir hatten einen sehr schönen Abend. Die Kniften waren super lecker, der Service war sehr bemüht, aber etwas verpeilt. Unterm Strich ein stimmiges Konzept.

War anfangs etwas skeptisch und wusste nicht ob es mir schmeckt. Es war aber wirklich extrem lecker (alles was wir bestellt haben). Uns allen 4 hat es geschmeckt. Service war sehr gut und auch total gemütlich. Wir kommen definitiv wieder. Max

Direkt am Stadion vom VFL Bochum Sind direkt nach der Öffnung rein und direkt freundlich und nett empfangen worden. Ambiente eher rustikal aber trotzdem cool Essen absolut lecker .. Abslout zu empfehlen

Essen einfach mal anders erleben !Gemütlich am Feuer sitzen und Leckeres auf dem "Knüppel" im Feuer grillen. Deftig, süss, Fleisch, Gemüse, div. Stockbrote - da findet jeder was.

Ganz tolles Esserlebnis, was ich vorher so noch nicht erlebt habe. Wir hatten einen wirklich tollen Abend. Wir werden wiederkommen, danke für den tollen Service.

Essen war super. Leider ist eine knifte ins Feuer gefallen. Haben dann aber Ersatz bekommen!

Das war ein richtig schöner Abend. Lecker Essen gemütlich garen lassen. Slowfood at its best. Der Service stimmt und es kommt sowas wie Lagerfeuer-Atmosphäre auf, bei uns noch verstärkt durch den Regen.

In Vereinsheim-Atmosphäre kann man hier lecker und ingezwungen Stockbrot essen. Lediglich das Bezahlsystem ist fehleranfällig, deswegen werde ich beim nächsten Mal bar zahlen.

Die Küppelknifte liegt zwar etwas versteckt hinter dem VfL Stadion, ist jedoch einen Besuch wert. Hier kann gefülltes Stockbrot bestellt und selbstständig am Tisch zubereitet werden. Das ganze macht Spaß und schmeckt super. Sicherlich auch für Teambuilding, oder ein Date geeignet. Hier ist sowohl Bar- als auch Kartenzahlung möglich.

Danke für den schönen Abend! Essen sowie Ambiente waren super und den Service kann ich an der Stelle nur nochmals positiv hervorheben. Wer einen entspannten und gemütlichen Abend inmitten von Bochum erleben möchte, dem kann ich das Restaurant nur empfehlen! Wir kommen sicher wieder! p.s.: kein Vergleich zur Dönerbude 😉

Die Knüppelknifte ist ein ganz besonderes Erlebnis und super empfehlenswert. Die beiden Herren haben alles im Griff und sind total herzlich mit allen Gästen umgegangen. Wir kommen wieder. :)

Haben es heute ausprobiert und wir sind begeistert! Hilfsbereit nett im Umgang mit den Kunden, wir kommen auf jedenfall wieder!

Wir sind dort unwissend, dass dieses Restaurant bekannt für das Stockbrot ist, reingegangen und wurden wirklich sehr freundlich empfangen. Die Tische waren belegt aber wir wurden fürstlich empfangen mit ganz viel Extrawunscherfüllung.....toller Laden...
