KNOSSOS in Gießen

Anyone expecting the classic meat platters with fries will be disappointed. Knossos is a very high-quality Greek restaurant!

The food was fantastic; I had 3 fish fillets on potatoes and vegetables, my husband had skrei (winter cod) in a spicy cabbage sauce, delicious but the delicate aroma of the skrei was “overwhelmed”. It was a shame, for example a sea bream would have been better in our opinion. Well, for once the service was unfortunately only average. We waited a very long time for our drinks & the “entré” bread with olives & for our starters :{ Our warm starters were served with our main course 🙈 I spontaneously criticized that in a friendly way. Well, it was blamed on the “full house”. However, it was extremely full that evening, i.e. full of guests. We are regular guests and have experienced extremely full houses many times and yet the service has always been excellent. I found it very annoying at the beginning, when our drinks finally arrived, that my aperitif was literally poured together, with 1 (❗️) wilted basil leaf, the crushed ice was poured over it WITHOUT stirring. I noticed that with the first sip & it was served WITHOUT a straw.. I spontaneously complained about that when serving & then waited 15 minutes for the straw.. the ice had almost melted.. We had Our dog was also with us & luckily we had our water bowl & our water with us.. the 🐶 was not taken into account at all by the service, we didn't think it was good either. O. All in all I still give it 4 out of 5 stars, despite the many criticisms, the Knossos got a very good tip from my husband ;D

Great food, nice location and friendly staff.

First class! We were greeted by a nice, funny man, another took the food order, another took the drinks. Everything ran super efficiently and quickly without seeming rushed. The food was first class and the architecture and furnishing style alone is worth seeing. I also ate the best green olives of my life. First class

Based on the good reviews, we decided to reserve a table here this evening to celebrate my wife's birthday. The atmosphere is nice, cozy, and not too loud despite its size. The service was a little overwhelmed, but friendly, but the drinks took a bit long to arrive. Unfortunately, I can only say two things about the food: mediocre. The taste was OK, but the portions were quite small for the price. Unfortunately, I have to deduct two stars for Knossos in my case. The bifteki was already sitting heavily in my stomach as I was paying. Two hours later, when I got home, I vomited several times and then lay there for three days (either the feta was no longer good or the meat wasn't cooked all the way through). Symptoms included nausea, vomiting, weakness, and headaches. My wife and mother were fine, so this was probably an exception, but personally, I won't eat here again; it's too dangerous for me.

I went to a restaurant with friends yesterday. I think the place is beautiful, and I always enjoy going there. The food is simply amazing, and the service is usually excellent, too. Except for yesterday, when we were served by a woman (red-haired and tattooed). She was in a rather bad mood and frequently gossiped about her colleagues in front of us, so we could overhear everything. We found this quite unprofessional, especially when done in front of the guests.

Great food and cozy atmosphere at Knossos in Giessen! We visited the Knossos restaurant in Giessen and were thrilled. The rump steak was perfectly prepared and incredibly tasty. We also really liked the atmosphere – cozy and inviting. The dessert was a crowning finale and simply great. A really successful evening, we would love to come back!

Well-being oasis. You go out feeling refreshed. However, the catering industry is on the wrong track. In the Palatinate and Baden, I experienced that you can order smaller portions with a 2 euro discount. Mini starters for less euros were also offered. So in other words, the customer has to save money (many doctors hardly eat out anymore). Side dishes could be offered as a modular system. However, nothing happens in terms of the catering industry. They count on the rich customers. However, they go on vacation much more often and are therefore not available as often. It is time for a new concept. In this sense, all the best for 2025. Unfortunately, you are also increasingly noticing that the innkeepers are ignoring their reviews. Because what happens when you think about it. Nothing, nothing and nothing again.

We regularly go to Knossos with friends. I would describe it as modern Greek fare. But it's not negative at all. The food is great and we always have a relaxed and pleasant time here. The staff is very friendly and accommodating.

Good quality at a reasonable price

A really highly recommended restaurant. Beautiful ambience, very friendly and attentive waiters who not only appear professional, but also act accordingly. (When setting the tables, the cutlery and glasses are only handled with cotton gloves - as already mentioned, professionally!) The dishes were visually beautifully presented and everything from the main course to the desert was very tasty. In terms of price, I think it's absolutely reasonable and fair for what you get in the overall package.

Very tasty food, highly recommended

As a provincial person, I was a bit overwhelmed when we rolled into the very busy parking lot of the majestically lit restaurant in our poorly powered Wolfsburg minivan. For a moment you get the idea that there is a dress code here (but there isn't) - but you shouldn't go any further, because the visit is worth it! The telephone reservation was friendly and problem-free. The Corona rules were properly adhered to on site, the service staff is friendly and courteous. The ambience is of the finest quality - the interior design (+terrace) of the shop is truly the ultimate in my restaurant visits so far. The prices are of course high, but not overpriced in my opinion. The selection of dishes is great, the quality is really top class (with the exception of the tarama - other Germans can do that better). Only small things were negative. In our case, a starter was forgotten and put on the table without a word when we asked. Paying only took half an hour latency. They could work on that, but I don't think there's any need to worry about something like that. In any case, we really enjoyed it and we'll definitely be back! Unfortunately, Google deleted the review some time ago for reasons that were unclear.

For those who like Greek cuisine, I highly recommend this restaurant. This restaurant has a very nice atmosphere, a fantastic location on the Lahn, extremely tasty dishes and very friendly service.

Very nice. Food is lovely, and price seems fair.

Totally overrated. Mediocre to good food, at far inflated prices. It used to be much better. The price-performance ratio hasn't been right for a long time. Snobbish behavior from the employees. That was the last time, we're not going there anymore. There are better addresses where you feel more welcome as a guest

We were there as a group, the volume was reminiscent of a train station atmosphere, the menu was very clear, the food was okay, but not enough for this price.

One of the best addresses in the greater Giessen area, reservation is essential. The food is upscale, as is the atmosphere. The service is very attentive and believably friendly, nothing seems fake. We spent another wonderful evening here today and would be happy to come back any time. All around a pleasure. Thank you very much.

I recently had the octobus and as always everything was simply outstanding – 10/10! The dish was delicious and the service was also very good. The waiters are always friendly and courteous, which makes the visit particularly pleasant. However, it is a shame that many of the long-time waiters, who always gave the service a special touch, are no longer there. Nevertheless, the atmosphere in the restaurant remains inviting and pleasant. I still enjoy coming here once a month to enjoy the delicious food and great service. A clear recommendation!

We were regular customers for decades, but now so many staff have changed that it's very noticeable. There are only two of the older group left, but we no longer meet Adriano, Ilea, Bart-Jorgo, Obaid, Fey, Roshan, Michali, "Viking"-Panajoti, and now even Pavlo isn't supposed to be there anymore. As a result, so much quality has been lost in the service that we are taking a break from Knossos for a while. And lamb, in particular, for which Knossos was known for decades, is now missing. But you can get the best quality from the Greek in Lollar...

Well, we had the octopus. It wasn't really through and was as hard as a car tire. There is better.

I can't count how many times we ate there. Actually our absolute favorite restaurant, unfortunately the prices are constantly increasing and the food no longer tastes like it used to. The steak was like the sole of a shoe, the octopus was like rubber and almost got stuck in my throat. The fish platter for 2 people and €80 was a joke, we had almost no fish on our plates! I hope things get better again and the prices don't increase as often as in the last few months!

Ich muss es zunächst zugeben: Wir sind Stammgäste im Knossos. Das hat natürlich Gründe. Neben der sehr angenehmen und coolen Einrichtung kann man hier seit Jahren hervorragend essen. Ein solches Niveau durchgehend zu halten, ist nicht selbstverständlich. Der Platz direkt an der Lahn ist einmalig, im Sommer sitzt man in Gießen kaum schöner. Oben die Terrasse gehört für mich zu den schönsten Plätzen, die ich je in einem Restaurant gesehen habe. Sehr viele Stammgäste. Sehr viel Betrieb. Trotzdem sehr entspannte Atmosphäre. Über Petros und sein Team muss man nichts mehr schreiben. Herzblut, Verantwortung, Engagement, Stil, Anspruch, Freude. So soll das sein, damit man sich als Gast wohlfühlt. Immer wieder wechselnde Angebote, der Fisch ist einfach Klasse. Gestern mal Pyrgo, dann Souvlaki, dazu ein Gläschen Graeger Sekt, passt. Ein wenig Luxus ist das schon. Muss aber auch mal sein. Die aktuelle Halloween- Deko ist köstlich. Klar, ich bleibe Stammgast.

Gerne wieder! Das Essen war spitze! Insbesondere die Fischgerichte sind wirklich überragend! Einziger Wermutstropfen: Die Stühle/ Sessel sind m.E.n. etwas zu niedrig. Wir kamen uns etwas wie Kinder an einem Erwachsentisch vor. 😅 Aber das ist wirklich Jammern auf Luxusniveu. Der Laden ist absolut empfehlenswert

Für einen Schönen Abend immer die Richtige Wahl! Sehr schönes Gebäude und Ambiente. Gutes und schön zubereitetes Essen . Im Sommer auch Außen ganz toll zum sitzen, direkt am Fluß.

wir hatten eine sehr aufmerksame Bedienung, die auf die verschiedenen Wünsche unserer Tischrunde geduldig einging. Der reservierte Eck-Platz ermöglichte eine entspannte Gesprächsatmosphäre in fröhlicher Runde. Das Essen war eine reine Gaumenfreude, die Weine ein Genuss. Gerne treffen wir uns wieder im Knossos.

Exceptional Greek restaurant. I haven't experienced anything comparable. Forget everything you have eaten in German Greek restaurants (I don't mean to devalue the typical Greek restaurants, I love eating there too) and let yourself be enchanted here. The food, the ambience and last but not least the service are all of the highest quality.

Very tastefully decorated, you have enough privacy, everything is harmonious. The waitress understands the job. Always there, never intrusive. Everyone is in a good mood and friendly, including each other. The food is very tasty, the portions are sufficient and very skillfully laid out on the plates. No matter whether meat or fish, there is something for everyone. The starters are very exquisite and the tiramisu afterwards is a feast for the eyes. There is convenient parking right in front of the restaurant. A reservation is more necessary. You should visit the restaurant if you are a guest in Giessen. Highly recommended.

The food was very tasty and the restaurant was really nice. The potatoes were missing from my dish. Unfortunately, the waitress hardly spoke any German and didn't understand what you wanted from her.

Service anything but attentive and friendly. Waited over 25 minutes before you could even order drinks. Then the wrong drinks came. It doesn't work at all!! Ambience good. Often eat the meat lukewarm. Since no service staff came to our table, we couldn't let the food go back. Some waiters just told us: I'm not responsible for that! Well then. Luckily there are better, more motivated hosts in and around Giessen.

Alles war eigentlich wie immer sehr gut (Essen, Service usw). Lediglich die parallelen Vorbereitungen für einer Hochzeitsfeier am Nachmittag/Abend (?) machte es ein wenig "ungemütlich". Aber bei einem Mittagessen kann man das verkraften... ;o)

Very nice location/great ambience. I had a grill plate...unfortunately the meat was tough and not particularly good. You may have to order something else. My friend once celebrated his child's baptism there and the grill plates weren't good either. But the starters were probably very good.

Very disappointing. I hereby withdraw my 5 star rating from 2 years ago. I was there on July 15th. and dinner here last night. Already on July 15, 2024 we had to wait forever until we could reorder drinks. The service was very slow. But last night, that was horrible. We had booked a table for 6 p.m. and were there at 6 p.m. Yesterday it was a very warm day, we were looking forward to a cool drink. Well, at 6:22 p.m.!!! Finally a service person came and brought us the card. I have to say, there was hardly any activity at this point. So we ordered. Drinks and food arrived after a short time. My food, mixed grill plate, the meat was lukewarm, the fries were hot. Annoying. We would have liked to order drinks again, unfortunately no one came, no one came for a whopping 25 minutes. Then a young man came, I said we would like to order drinks, he just said he wasn't responsible for that. We went out and he sent someone else to take our drink requests. No, again we waited 15 minutes, mind you, it was still very warm outside. I ordered a Freddo Cappucino, what did I get? A normal cappucino. I said I didn't order that. Shortly afterwards a waitress, Sandra is on our receipt, came to our table and said: do you have a problem with the cappucino?? I was very surprised by this tone. Yes, I have a problem, I ordered something else! My girlfriend ordered Coke Zero, what did she get? That's right, a regular cola. After yesterday you lost us as guests. We have been advertising you to friends, families and colleagues for over 2 years, but after the last 2 visits, especially after yesterday evening, it is no longer reasonable for us to spend a relaxing evening with friends and colleagues here. You know, it's more expensive here, so we expect impeccable service, which is no longer the case here. We are very disappointed. If you read your reviews here, we are not the only ones who have experienced this. Very disappointing!

Das war ein schönes Abendessen. Wir hatten unser 8.Hochzeitstag gefeiert. War der bester Wahl für so einen besonderen Tag😍Essen war super lecker, auch die Desserts und die Ambiente. Service war bisschen langsam. Aber die Mitarbeiterinnen waren nett.

Eigentlich stimmt alles, das Ambiente, die Speisekarte aber dann dauert es ewig bis man Getränke bestellen kann. Die erste Runde funktioniert noch halbwegs danach kommt gut 20 Minuten kein Kelllner mehr auch nur in Reich bzw. Rufweite. Spricht man dann eine Kellnerin ( eines anderen Bereichs) an wird die Bestellung zwar aufgenommen aber mit angesäuerter Miene kommentiert. Dann kommt die wirklich gute Vorspeisenplatte, mit dem Hinweis, dass auch gleich noch Brot gebracht wird. Nach ca. 15 Minuten fragen wir dann nach dem Brot. Die Hauptspeisen schmecken wirklich sehr lecker. Das sich einer meiner Gäste die ganze Nacht übergeben hat ( nein er hatte nicht Zuviel getrunken) mag dem Zufall geschuldet sein. Von daher leider etwas enttäuschend

Das Knosos haben wir von einem guten Bekannten empfohlen bekommen und wir haben es auch gleich ausprobiert es war der einfach lecker und wir waren jetzt schon fünf mal da und gehen immer wieder hin…der Service ist toll sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend

Highly recommended! Mega restaurant with a mega ambience! Very good and tasty food creations. The staff is very friendly, helpful and quick. Everything tastes and looks first class. The ambience is very modern and appealing, whether inside or outside. Everything has been done very elegantly. You can fill yourself up here... The prices are in the slightly higher segment, but for what you get, they're perfectly fine. Price-performance ratio is very good. We were extremely happy, the descent from the motorway was totally worth it! PS: With your own parking: very good!
