KNOSSOS in Gießen

The KNOSSOS restaurant is known far beyond the borders of Giessen. Located directly on the Lahn River, it's especially wonderful in summer. Culinary overrated; anyone who knew KNOSSOS before the renovation knows what I mean. The background noise is a bit too loud. The food is neutral (in flavor) without the chef's particular signature. If you order wine by the glass, you should limit the amount served directly from the bottle at the table so that guests can see what they're getting. These olives (amuse gueule) are hardly a showcase for a Greek restaurant.

Everything was amazing - from food to the service to the atmosphere. Waiters were very helpful and polite and the food was exceptional.

I always enjoy coming back to this hospitable and professionally run restaurant. The food has never disappointed me in the years since. Thanks to the team!

We went out to eat today, and I can only say one thing: by far the worst meal I've ever eaten. The meat was burnt, I couldn't cut the rump steak, and unless I gave it back to the kitchen, it wouldn't come back.

Everything was very appealing, would gladly come again

I can recommend it without reservation. We had salt-crusted sea bass on our visit. It was by far the best fish dish I've had in the area. Service was very friendly and attentive. The cocktails are also very good.

The ambiance and service were very good; it's very luxuriously decorated, and everyone is smartly dressed. The food was good, but given the prestige and price, I would have expected more.

Good food and professional service.

Greek restaurant with excellent grilled fish and meat. The tuna fillet costs €40 (the most expensive fish), so it's not cheap, but it's reasonable. High-quality, tasty, and beautifully presented. The salad dressing, however, was a bit bland for my taste. It was just oil and vinegar. It could be spiced up. The dessert was very generous and delicious. The staff was attentive and very accommodating. The atmosphere outside on the terrace, right on the Lahn River, was fantastic (it really feels like a vacation). They have beautifully designed heaters for when it gets a bit colder. It's also nice inside, but quite noisy.

The food was incredibly good. BUT, apart from a few appetizers and a salad, there isn't a single vegetarian or vegan dish on the menu. I find that a real shame, given the truly delicious appetizer platter (which included some excellent vegetarian options), and it's keeping me from coming back. What I did eat, however, was excellent!

Beautifully decorated restaurant, but our complaint was handled poorly. There were simply too many bones in our fish fillet. When my companion directly complained about her fish, we were ignored while regulars were lavishly courted. The vegetables were also cold, a total disappointment. We had the feeling that our server, an older gentleman, simply didn't want to hear our complaint and were largely ignored for the rest of the evening. The couple next to us felt the same. The restaurant's location is great, right on the Lahn River with a beer garden.

I was at Knossos on August 17, 2025, my birthday, because it had been recommended to me many times. Parking was good 👍🏼. We received a warm welcome, and all the staff were very friendly. A water bowl was brought for my dog without asking. I thought they were very thoughtful! The drink I ordered was too bitter for me—not my taste. The soup my mother had was good. I had a cheese salad. Nothing special. After the appetizer, the main course was immediately served. It went too quickly for me personally, and I would have liked a break in between. For the main course, we had salmon with lentils. I was totally disappointed. The salmon was burnt and tasted only average. However, the prices were very high for the taste. Unfortunately, we weren't offered a dessert menu. I had the main course wrapped up because I couldn't eat it all. At home, the food had packaging and a hair in it. Not so appetizing. Summary: Unfortunately overrated, too expensive, and taste-wise nothing special, sorry! My highlight at the restaurant was a celebrity I saw.

We were there on Saturday. Absolutely fantastic welcome, super friendly service, a fantastic owner who constantly cares about his guests' well-being, and the food from the kitchen was cooked and seasoned with love! Everything was absolutely perfect.

Going out to eat spontaneously on a Monday evening isn't easy. Knossos was open and offers a wonderful, modern, elegant ambiance with numerous tables offering guests a view of the Lahn River. The service was fast, but not hectic, friendly, and professional. That's something you rarely find these days. Quality comes at a price. Therefore, Knossos isn't exactly a budget-friendly alternative—that much should be understood.

Sensational! It was my first time there and I was immediately overwhelmed by the sheer size of this beautiful restaurant on the Lahn River. Elegant and without kitsch, simple and elegant decor, very attentive, fast, and friendly service, and creative Greek cuisine. Be careful with the portions; they are really large! And despite the large seating, a reservation is definitely recommended. The three of us had a mixed starter platter and then lamb and fish, everything was impeccable.

Beautiful terrace. Spacious with luxurious, comfortable chairs. The meat was good, but the vegetables and potatoes that came with it were a bit plain and bland/tasteless. The coffee was good.

Anyone looking for modern Greek cuisine will find more than they're looking for here. Enjoy! I used to always go there in the evenings, but now I've also relaxed here for lunch. Again, the food is best ever... The only thing that bothers me after several visits... The restrooms always smell extremely strongly of cleaning products. Sorry, that's too much. Again, the food is perfect... And there we have that annoying issue again... The cleaning cloths/products used to wipe tables have to smell of something (cleaning products), otherwise it can't be clean. That's not state of the art.

We were regular customers for decades, but now so much staff has changed that it's quite noticeable. Only two of the older group are still there, but we no longer see Adriano, Ilea, Bart-Jorgo, Obaid, Fey, Roshan, Michali, "Viking" Panajoti, and now even Pavlo is apparently no longer there. As a result, so much quality has been lost, especially in service, that we're taking a break from Knossos for a while. And the lamb, for which Knossos was known for decades, is now missing. But it's available in top quality at the Greek restaurant in Lollar...

The restaurant is amazing. I was for the first time there yesterday. We arrived a bit early but the staff was very friendly and let us in anyway. Very friendly staff, very profesional, the food is amazing. The restaurant looks amazing inside and outside. Beautiful view from the terrace....I will definitelly come back...

The food was tasty but underseasoned. Unfortunately, there was no fresh coleslaw or anything to go with it... We sat on damp cushions, and our pants were wet afterward.... After eating, we wanted to order something else, but the waiter took the menu, and I asked if I could leave a card for later. He didn't ask us if we wanted to order anything else after our meal. So we went somewhere else for coffee... And I didn't see any gyros on the menu...

Absolutely stunning! The food was sooooo delicious and the waiters were incredibly attentive, caring, and friendly. We were served by Obi and Alexandra. The ambiance was fantastic! Although it was quite chilly, we were able to sit outside under a patio heater, and it was super pleasant. I think the pictures speak for themselves. I highly recommend it and would love to come back ❤️

Nice ambiance on the Lahn River with ample parking. The food was high quality and nicely presented. However, in my opinion, there's still room for improvement in the service.

Nice restaurant with good food, but we've been waiting 2.5 hours for the main course and we haven't seen anything yet. It's painful to give so few stars, but it's just not possible and disappointing for a restaurant like this. They definitely need to plan better, because you're losing customers this way. Extremely annoying if you've driven here just to starve, so I can't really recommend it to anyone. The plus side is that you can see nice cars in the parking lot... nothing more.

The fish and seafood dishes are an absolute highlight: fresh, perfectly cooked, and prepared with finely balanced spices. An all-around successful evening – anyone seeking Mediterranean cuisine of the highest quality has come to the right place. Highly recommended!

Knossos exceeded all my expectations during my visit yesterday 😍 From the friendly welcome, to the cozy ambiance, the summery aperitif, the beautifully presented and extremely high-quality dishes, to the consistently friendly and attentive service, everything was simply perfect and makes me look forward to my next visit 😍

We were here for our wedding anniversary. The welcome was very warm, and we were immediately shown to our reserved table. The tables were elegantly and attractively set. The waitress was immediately on hand to take our drinks order, providing friendly assistance. The drinks were brought to us promptly in the appropriate order (aperitif, water, wine) at short intervals, without bringing everything to the table on one tray. There was also a small bowl of delicious olive oil, olives, and toasted bread. After a short while, the waitress took our order for the starter and main course. After a short while, these were brought. Again, there was enough time in between to eat in peace. About the food: I already mentioned the bread, olives, and olive oil. That alone was a delight. Here, you could tell that great importance was placed on the quality of the products. For starters, we had baked feta cheese with salad. It was elegantly presented, and the feta cheese was also feta cheese. Not just any old shepherd's cheese with a lot of breading. The main course consisted of a so-called 'mixed plate'. (I could come up with a nicer name for this, but that's just a side note.) It consisted of three types of meat: a small rump steak, bifteki, and a steak skewer. It was served with potato slices shaped like chips, only thicker, a small pita bread, and feta cheese spread. The meat was buttery tender and juicy throughout. Cooked to perfection. The potatoes were crispy and slightly spicy. Not swimming in fat and completely over-seasoned. Of course, the obligatory ouzo was a must afterward. Last but not least, we were served dessert, which was on the house, as our waitress had noticed we were there for our wedding anniversary. It consisted of a large scoop of vanilla ice cream, a chocolate cake with a liquid center, and fresh fruit. This, too, was a harmonious combination. Finally, I would like to commend our waiter, Lukas, for his consistently friendly, attentive, and courteous, unobtrusive service. Conclusion: We were completely satisfied and had a very pleasant evening. The service and quality were impeccable. Of course, the prices are a bit higher than at the Greek restaurant around the corner, but I'm happy to pay them for a more upscale dining experience. I can wholeheartedly recommend 'Knossos'.

We recently celebrated a special occasion at KNOSSOS and everything was absolutely flawless. The food was incredibly delicious, Greek-inspired dishes that were perfectly seasoned and full of flavor. They also offer a great selection of drinks. The outdoor patio area is beautiful and perfect for the warm season. On top of that, the service was excellent. Friendly, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome. Highly recommend this place for any occasion!

The food is top-notch; I haven't eaten anything this good and absolutely delicious in a long time. The prices aren't cheap, but my dad invited me for my birthday, and I would go there again and again (if I, as a poor student, didn't have to pay for it myself, haha). So if you want to treat yourself to a great meal, you should reserve a table there! :) The mixed cold/warm appetizer platter alone blew me away! The only downside: one of the waiters was very grumpy and rather cold/unfriendly, and it seemed like everything was a burden. But I think we all know it: everyone has a bad day sometimes. The food still made me truly happy :)

Yesterday we sat in the middle of the restaurant at Knossos and we haven't experienced such great service in a long time! The service was attentive, wonderfully humorous and clever. She had the right mix of professionalism and relaxedness, with a keen eye for detail. The starter arrived at just the right moment, the main course followed at an ideal interval, and the food was well above the standard of a traditional Greek restaurant. Great value for money! This is exactly how gastronomy should be. Definitely not my last visit to Knossos. A real heartfelt recommendation.

The food was fantastic; I had 3 fish fillets on potatoes and vegetables, my husband had skrei (winter cod) in a spicy cabbage sauce, delicious but the delicate aroma of the skrei was “overwhelmed”. It was a shame, for example a sea bream would have been better in our opinion. Well, for once the service was unfortunately only average. We waited a very long time for our drinks & the “entré” bread with olives & for our starters :{ Our warm starters were served with our main course 🙈 I spontaneously criticized that in a friendly way. Well, it was blamed on the “full house”. However, it was extremely full that evening, i.e. full of guests. We are regular guests and have experienced extremely full houses many times and yet the service has always been excellent. I found it very annoying at the beginning, when our drinks finally arrived, that my aperitif was literally poured together, with 1 (❗️) wilted basil leaf, the crushed ice was poured over it WITHOUT stirring. I noticed that with the first sip & it was served WITHOUT a straw.. I spontaneously complained about that when serving & then waited 15 minutes for the straw.. the ice had almost melted.. We had Our dog was also with us & luckily we had our water bowl & our water with us.. the 🐶 was not taken into account at all by the service, we didn't think it was good either. O. All in all I still give it 4 out of 5 stars, despite the many criticisms, the Knossos got a very good tip from my husband ;D

First class! We were greeted by a nice, funny man, another took the food order, another took the drinks. Everything ran super efficiently and quickly without seeming rushed. The food was first class and the architecture and furnishing style alone is worth seeing. I also ate the best green olives of my life. First class

Based on the good reviews, we decided to reserve a table here this evening to celebrate my wife's birthday. The atmosphere is nice, cozy, and not too loud despite its size. The service was a little overwhelmed, but friendly, but the drinks took a bit long to arrive. Unfortunately, I can only say two things about the food: mediocre. The taste was OK, but the portions were quite small for the price. Unfortunately, I have to deduct two stars for Knossos in my case. The bifteki was already sitting heavily in my stomach as I was paying. Two hours later, when I got home, I vomited several times and then lay there for three days (either the feta was no longer good or the meat wasn't cooked all the way through). Symptoms included nausea, vomiting, weakness, and headaches. My wife and mother were fine, so this was probably an exception, but personally, I won't eat here again; it's too dangerous for me.

I went to a restaurant with friends yesterday. I think the place is beautiful, and I always enjoy going there. The food is simply amazing, and the service is usually excellent, too. Except for yesterday, when we were served by a woman (red-haired and tattooed). She was in a rather bad mood and frequently gossiped about her colleagues in front of us, so we could overhear everything. We found this quite unprofessional, especially when done in front of the guests.

I remember the old building, now it's new, the food with everything... GOOD. Keep it up.

We also really liked the atmosphere – cozy and inviting. The dessert was a crowning finale and simply great. A really successful evening, we would love to come back!

Great restaurant with very good food

Well-being oasis. You go out feeling refreshed. However, the catering industry is on the wrong track. In the Palatinate and Baden, I experienced that you can order smaller portions with a 2 euro discount. Mini starters for less euros were also offered. So in other words, the customer has to save money (many doctors hardly eat out anymore). Side dishes could be offered as a modular system. However, nothing happens in terms of the catering industry. They count on the rich customers. However, they go on vacation much more often and are therefore not available as often. It is time for a new concept. In this sense, all the best for 2025. Unfortunately, you are also increasingly noticing that the innkeepers are ignoring their reviews. Because what happens when you think about it. Nothing, nothing and nothing again.

We regularly go to Knossos with friends. I would describe it as modern Greek fare. But it's not negative at all. The food is great and we always have a relaxed and pleasant time here. The staff is very friendly and accommodating.

Good quality at a reasonable price

A really highly recommended restaurant. Beautiful ambience, very friendly and attentive waiters who not only appear professional, but also act accordingly. (When setting the tables, the cutlery and glasses are only handled with cotton gloves - as already mentioned, professionally!) The dishes were visually beautifully presented and everything from the main course to the desert was very tasty. In terms of price, I think it's absolutely reasonable and fair for what you get in the overall package.

As a provincial person, I was a bit overwhelmed when we rolled into the very busy parking lot of the majestically lit restaurant in our poorly powered Wolfsburg minivan. For a moment you get the idea that there is a dress code here (but there isn't) - but you shouldn't go any further, because the visit is worth it! The telephone reservation was friendly and problem-free. The Corona rules were properly adhered to on site, the service staff is friendly and courteous. The ambience is of the finest quality - the interior design (+terrace) of the shop is truly the ultimate in my restaurant visits so far. The prices are of course high, but not overpriced in my opinion. The selection of dishes is great, the quality is really top class (with the exception of the tarama - other Germans can do that better). Only small things were negative. In our case, a starter was forgotten and put on the table without a word when we asked. Paying only took half an hour latency. They could work on that, but I don't think there's any need to worry about something like that. In any case, we really enjoyed it and we'll definitely be back! Unfortunately, Google deleted the review some time ago for reasons that were unclear.

For those who like Greek cuisine, I highly recommend this restaurant. This restaurant has a very nice atmosphere, a fantastic location on the Lahn, extremely tasty dishes and very friendly service.
