KNOSSOS in Gießen

Well, we had the octopus. It wasn't really through and was as hard as a car tire. There is better.

I can't count how many times we ate there. Actually our absolute favorite restaurant, unfortunately the prices are constantly increasing and the food no longer tastes like it used to. The steak was like the sole of a shoe, the octopus was like rubber and almost got stuck in my throat. The fish platter for 2 people and €80 was a joke, we had almost no fish on our plates! I hope things get better again and the prices don't increase as often as in the last few months!

Very tastefully decorated, you have enough privacy, everything is harmonious. The waitress understands the job. Always there, never intrusive. Everyone is in a good mood and friendly, including each other. The food is very tasty, the portions are sufficient and very skillfully laid out on the plates. No matter whether meat or fish, there is something for everyone. The starters are very exquisite and the tiramisu afterwards is a feast for the eyes. There is convenient parking right in front of the restaurant. A reservation is more necessary. You should visit the restaurant if you are a guest in Giessen. Highly recommended.

Exceptional Greek restaurant. I haven't experienced anything comparable. Forget everything you have eaten in German Greek restaurants (I don't mean to devalue the typical Greek restaurants, I love eating there too) and let yourself be enchanted here. The food, the ambience and last but not least the service are all of the highest quality.

Wir hatten einen tollen Abend mit großartigem Essen und einem unglaublich netten Service. Das Ambiente ist traumhaft! Wir kommen definitiv wieder!

The food was very tasty and the restaurant was really nice. The potatoes were missing from my dish. Unfortunately, the waitress hardly spoke any German and didn't understand what you wanted from her.

Service anything but attentive and friendly. Waited over 25 minutes before you could even order drinks. Then the wrong drinks came. It doesn't work at all!! Ambience good. Often eat the meat lukewarm. Since no service staff came to our table, we couldn't let the food go back. Some waiters just told us: I'm not responsible for that! Well then. Luckily there are better, more motivated hosts in and around Giessen.

Alles war eigentlich wie immer sehr gut (Essen, Service usw). Lediglich die parallelen Vorbereitungen für einer Hochzeitsfeier am Nachmittag/Abend (?) machte es ein wenig "ungemütlich". Aber bei einem Mittagessen kann man das verkraften... ;o)

Very nice location/great ambience. I had a grill plate...unfortunately the meat was tough and not particularly good. You may have to order something else. My friend once celebrated his child's baptism there and the grill plates weren't good either. But the starters were probably very good.

Very disappointing. I hereby withdraw my 5 star rating from 2 years ago. I was there on July 15th. and dinner here last night. Already on July 15, 2024 we had to wait forever until we could reorder drinks. The service was very slow. But last night, that was horrible. We had booked a table for 6 p.m. and were there at 6 p.m. Yesterday it was a very warm day, we were looking forward to a cool drink. Well, at 6:22 p.m.!!! Finally a service person came and brought us the card. I have to say, there was hardly any activity at this point. So we ordered. Drinks and food arrived after a short time. My food, mixed grill plate, the meat was lukewarm, the fries were hot. Annoying. We would have liked to order drinks again, unfortunately no one came, no one came for a whopping 25 minutes. Then a young man came, I said we would like to order drinks, he just said he wasn't responsible for that. We went out and he sent someone else to take our drink requests. No, again we waited 15 minutes, mind you, it was still very warm outside. I ordered a Freddo Cappucino, what did I get? A normal cappucino. I said I didn't order that. Shortly afterwards a waitress, Sandra is on our receipt, came to our table and said: do you have a problem with the cappucino?? I was very surprised by this tone. Yes, I have a problem, I ordered something else! My girlfriend ordered Coke Zero, what did she get? That's right, a regular cola. After yesterday you lost us as guests. We have been advertising you to friends, families and colleagues for over 2 years, but after the last 2 visits, especially after yesterday evening, it is no longer reasonable for us to spend a relaxing evening with friends and colleagues here. You know, it's more expensive here, so we expect impeccable service, which is no longer the case here. We are very disappointed. If you read your reviews here, we are not the only ones who have experienced this. Very disappointing!

Das war ein schönes Abendessen. Wir hatten unser 8.Hochzeitstag gefeiert. War der bester Wahl für so einen besonderen Tag😍Essen war super lecker, auch die Desserts und die Ambiente. Service war bisschen langsam. Aber die Mitarbeiterinnen waren nett.

Eigentlich stimmt alles, das Ambiente, die Speisekarte aber dann dauert es ewig bis man Getränke bestellen kann. Die erste Runde funktioniert noch halbwegs danach kommt gut 20 Minuten kein Kelllner mehr auch nur in Reich bzw. Rufweite. Spricht man dann eine Kellnerin ( eines anderen Bereichs) an wird die Bestellung zwar aufgenommen aber mit angesäuerter Miene kommentiert. Dann kommt die wirklich gute Vorspeisenplatte, mit dem Hinweis, dass auch gleich noch Brot gebracht wird. Nach ca. 15 Minuten fragen wir dann nach dem Brot. Die Hauptspeisen schmecken wirklich sehr lecker. Das sich einer meiner Gäste die ganze Nacht übergeben hat ( nein er hatte nicht Zuviel getrunken) mag dem Zufall geschuldet sein. Von daher leider etwas enttäuschend

Das Knosos haben wir von einem guten Bekannten empfohlen bekommen und wir haben es auch gleich ausprobiert es war der einfach lecker und wir waren jetzt schon fünf mal da und gehen immer wieder hin…der Service ist toll sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend

Everything was great, the food was great, and it was beautifully explained and presented to us, the staff was friendly and competent, except for an older woman... who came and asked my wife, we asked about the cocktail menu just out of interest, or not wanted to order... We had already ordered a long time ago... inappropriate, I've never experienced that... thank God I was with you...

Highly recommended! Mega restaurant with a mega ambience! Very good and tasty food creations. The staff is very friendly, helpful and quick. Everything tastes and looks first class. The ambience is very modern and appealing, whether inside or outside. Everything has been done very elegantly. You can fill yourself up here... The prices are in the slightly higher segment, but for what you get, they're perfectly fine. Price-performance ratio is very good. We were extremely happy, the descent from the motorway was totally worth it! PS: With your own parking: very good!

Once again had a lovely evening. The food was excellent! The service first class! The atmosphere is very inviting. It's nice to sit on the terrace right on the Lahn. I can only warmly recommend the restaurant!

Unfortunately, our visit to KNOSSOS was a mixed experience that was overall rather disappointing. The evening started positively with a very tasty aperitif, which was really successful. We also really liked the table that we had right on the Lahn with a great view. The restaurant was recommended to us by friends and we ourselves were guests at a larger birthday party there. We had a lovely afternoon and everything went smoothly. Unfortunately the service that evening (wedding day) left a lot to be desired. The starter was carelessly prepared and hardly looked good. The main course was then even forgotten and only arrived after waiting for over an hour and after repeated requests. To make matters worse, the meat on one grill plate wasn't cooked properly and had to go back to the kitchen. The result of this: My wife and I ate at separate times. At least one of us always had time to follow the hustle and bustle on the Lahn. Unfortunately, the drinks that were served to us with our meal were also the wrong ones. On a positive note, the quality of the food served again was significantly better once the problem was addressed. Nevertheless, this can only partially compensate for the previous inconveniences. Mistakes are human and can happen, but I expect them to be handled more professionally. As a gesture of goodwill, they would have had various options to accommodate us. However, the waiters did not take advantage of this opportunity. Overall, unfortunately, it was an adequate to poor experience that fell well short of expectations. There is still room for improvement. The three stars overall are only there because the birthday party was so successful.

I ordered a table at the beginning of the week. We were treated very kindly when we asked where we would like to sit. The mixed starter plate was excellent, as were the fish and meat dishes. Wir gehen seit mittlerweile 20 Jahren ins Knossos bei gleichbleibender Qualität.

Tolles Ambiente, leckere Speisen und sehr freundliches Personal.

Alles in allem sehr schön. Hervorzuheben ist immer wieder das wunderschöne Ambiente und besonders wenn man draußen sitzen und genießen darf. Das Essen war gut. Einzig der Service war etwas schade. Zu Anfang zu viel von einer etwas resoluten Dame gefragt - man wollte in Ruhe ankommen und Essen aussuchen - was man nicht innerhalb 5 Minuten schaffen kann - wir jedenfalls nicht - außer in einem Schnellbedienungsrestaurant - was das Knossos definitiv und Gott sei Dank nicht ist! Wir bestellten erst einmal Aperitif & Vorspeise. Die Hauptspeise haben wir danach bestellt - danach war der Service an unserem Tisch jedenfalls komplett eingestellt. Als unser Wein zur Neige ging und die Hauptspeise noch immer nicht serviert wurde versuchten wir jemanden vom Service zu fragen - als dies endlich möglich war hakte der junge und sehr freundliche Mann auch nach und hat uns sehr ehrlich mitgeteilt dass unser Essen vergessen wurde. Trotzdem war er danach wirklich für uns da und bot uns sogar ein Getränk aufs Haus an. Wir kommen bestimmt wieder und hoffen dass wir dann auch die Hauptspeise genießen dürfen. Trotz allem haben wir den Abend in dieser wunderschönen Location genossen und nehmen mehr als positiv auch die Reaktion des jungen Mannes mit nachhause - die vorbildlich war! Herzliche Grüße

The Knossos is beautifully located on the Lahn. The menu is very extensive and offers some delicious specialties. We had a large mixed starter plate which was very filling and well presented. The service is exceptionally attentive and friendly. We would like to come again.

Wir haben etwas auf ein Getränk warten müssen, aber das ist bei Hochbetrieb und Gewitterstimmung wirklich vernachlässigbar. Gerne kommen wir wieder.

You are used to quality and service in Knossos. But the Knossos 2.0 is outstanding in every respect. Stunningly beautiful and elegant. However, it has lost nothing of its coziness and welcome atmosphere.

The 5 stars are not enough... I would give 7 stars for the food, ambience and especially service... a real short vacation!!!

In terms of price, this restaurant is definitely above average. However, this restaurant impresses with its really good quality. It starts with the arrival. The restaurant has its own parking lot despite the very good location right on the water. This ensures a relaxed arrival. Even before you order, you can see the other guests' plates. Incredibly beautifully presented dishes. A highly recommended restaurant. What is particularly noteworthy is that, despite the restaurant being full, there was never a feeling as if the service staff were stressed. Everything went smoothly and stress-free. You could enjoy your stay in complete peace and relaxation.

That Restaurant Knossos in Giessen is a culinary experience for the elite. The ambience is so pleasant that you almost forget that you are in a restaurant and not an exclusive club for the wealthy. Here you really feel at home among your own kind. So, bring your best friends with you, because the likelihood that you will meet someone here who doesn't have at least one of their own yachts is extremely low. Price-performance ratio? Well, I would say it's absolutely fine! After all, just under 150 per person is a bargain considering you're not eating at a McDonald's or a low-income eatery. After all, we're not here for fun, we're here to surround ourselves with the rich and famous and enjoy the feeling that you get something for your money, such as the opportunity to discuss the latest trends in haute cuisine while you stare at your plate and wonder whether it's really a piece of meat or a work of art. The food is so exquisite that you almost feel guilty about eating it. But don't worry, that's just the price you have to pay to be part of this culinary elite. Cheers to the finer things in life

The location is very nice and cozy. However, the service is unsatisfactory. We had reserved a table for 12.30 p.m. It took forever before we could order drinks let alone food. The drinks were empty and no waiter came to take new orders. The main courses arrived gradually from 2.30 p.m., dessert wasn't even offered. The food was ok, nothing special except the price, which is particularly high. Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio is not right here at all. It's a shame, we won't be coming back and can't recommend it.

We were there for dinner. Very chic and tasteful ambience from the architecture to the gardens to the restaurant furnishings and lighting. The audience is a “society” adapted to the ambience. Our table was on the beautiful terrace directly on the Lahn. The staff was dressed in typical local clothing, very friendly and very attentive at the beginning of our visit. Unfortunately, after the food was served, no one came to ask for drinks. We had a mixed starter platter: everything was really tasty. Extremely delicious. Unfortunately the main courses couldn't keep up the standard. The "Mix Grill" platter was ok, but it's also available at every other Greek restaurant. The "Kalamari" were on the grill for too long and were therefore a bit tough. The vegetables and fresh spinach served with it are not worth mentioning. The rump steak was on point and fine. The Cretan noodles “Skioufichta” were tasty but not original either. Overall, it was still a lovely evening, almost like you were on holiday. Top ambience, very hospitable, reasonable prices, food average with outliers.

Der Service war sehr kühl und reserviert. Zwei Weinsorten waren nicht vorrätig und auf Den Espresso mussten wir ewig warten. Alles zusammen waren wir in der Vergangenheit deutlich mehr gewohnt. Schade

A starter and bread that we ordered didn't come at all, but the starter was already on the bill...thank God we noticed that ourselves!!! I don't feel like going to restaurants like that anymore! It's a shame because the food was very tasty 😋!

A very good address for a business lunch. Excellent food, the terrace directly overlooking the Lahn. The interior is also very nice. The service is okay, but at lunchtime when it's busy, it can sometimes be a bit abrupt due to the busyness. At a restaurant like this she should still be more accommodating. For a private meal, the prices are too intense for a normal wallet.

The food was good but didn't meet expectations. The ambience is very nice but also noisy. What is unfortunately not right is the service. This should be adjusted to the price level. You can't get Pinot Grigio (we're not at the Italian restaurant) but you can get Tiramisu... if I pay €60 per person, those are sayings I don't have to give myself.
