Hawwerkasten in Gießen

Für mich gehört der Hawwerkasten einfach zu Gießen! Wer gute Hausmannskost, eine gemütliche Atmosphäre und Qualität schätzt, ist hier genau richtig! Hier bekommt man einfach ehrliche hessische Küche, größtenteils aus eigener Herstellung und vor allem mit Herz gekocht. Ich kann den Hawwerkasten jedem nur wärmstens empfehlen!

Das Essen war sehr gut. Der Service war sehr nett und freundlich. Wir hatten heute das Problem, dass das Personal krankheitsbedingt unterbesetzt war. Dadurch hat es schon sehr lange gedauert und unser Tisch wurde auch 2x übersehen. Vielleicht ist es das nächste Mal etwas glücklicher, aber alles in allem waren wir trotzdem sehr zufrieden, weil Essen, Trinken und Preis / Leistung passen und der Service sich echt bemüht hat.

Wir haben in einem wunderschönen Ambiente ein außergewöhnlich leckeres Essen genossen. Der Preis war sehr gut. Wir danken Herrn Zach für seine Gastfreundschaft.

Ein ganz toller Abend! Wir sind aus Chemnitz angereist und sind positiv begeistert. Das Essen war hervorragend und der Service in Form von Zara und Anton sehr herzlich, lustig und professionell.

Immer wieder ein Ort an dem man sich kulinarisch inspirieren lassen kann 🤪🙃 Man trifft dort immer nette Leute, unverschämt gute Speisen und Getränke ! Man kommt „nach Hause“. Das Wirt-Pärchen ein Traum , wir kommen gerne und oft 🙏🏼

Das Essen hier ist einfach so lecker. Es gibt kein besseres Restaurant in dem man gutes Deutsches Essen bekommt, was auch noch aus der hauseigenen Metzgerei stammt. Die Chefin hat immer ein offenes Ohr und ist für jeden Gast da. Für mich die Top Empfehlung in Gießen.

Landestypisches hessisches Lokal. Speisekarte mit original hessischen Spezialitäten, zB: grüne Soße, Schweinshaxe, Tafelspitz etc. , dazu Äppler oder sauer gespritzter....Service sehr freundlich und patent, Außenterrasse, empfehlenswert..

Tolle Gaststätte, sehr angenehme Atmosphäre. Das Essen (Schnitzel mit Bratlartoffeln und grüner Soße) kommt in großen Portionen, preislich (20,50) absolut fair und geschmacklich top! Die Bedienung ist sehr freundlich, vor allem die Dame an der Bar ist mega. Absolute Empfehlung, würde aber eine Reservierung empfehlen, da der Laden gut besucht ist. Das spricht in meinen Augen aber umso mehr dafür hier mal vorbeizukommen!

Gutes Restaurant in einer ruhigen Ecke Gießens, in dem es sich deftig essen lässt. Der Gastraum ist urig und passt zu den angebotenen Gerichten – gutbürgerliche Klassiker der hessischen Küche, wie Rippchen mit Kraut oder Handkäs. An der Saison orientierte Tagesgerichte (z. B. Spargel) ergänzen die Speisekarte. Ich hatte den Hackbraten und war damit sehr zufrieden. Die Portion war reichlich, der Preis angemessen. Zwar war die Wartezeit nach der Bestellung relativ lang, doch das spricht dafür, dass die Gerichte frisch zubereitet wurden...und in guter Gesellschaft is(s)t man ja nicht auf der Flucht! Nur für eine ruhige Unterhaltung eignet sich das Restaurant eher weniger; es ist ein Altbau mit hohen Decken und der entsprechenden Geräuschkulisse vieler zufriedener Gäste (zu denen meine Freunde & ich uns dazuzählen).

Das Ambiente ist exakt das was man erwartet wenn man in ein deutsches Wirtshaus geht, niedrige Tische, gemütliche Holzstühle, eine breite Theke, lauschig und gemütlich, aber nicht unanständig eng. Der Laden ist quasi immer knallvoll, was sehr für das Essen spricht, trotzdem wurden wir bemerkenswert schnell bedient. Wir hatten ein Kalbs- und ein Schweineschnitzel, grüne Soße, Handkäs und einen Salat und das war alles herausragend gut gemacht und lecker. Die Portionen sind großzügig und die Getränke kühl. Die Bratkartoffeln werden standardmäßig mit Speck zubereitet, was kein Manko ist, aber was man vielleicht als Vegetarier gerne wissen möchte, weshalb ich es erwähne. Wir werden sicher wieder kommen. Das Fremdenzimmer ist auch empfehlenswert, aber das ist eine Randnotiz. Wir waren mit Gastfreundschaft und Küche äußerst zufrieden und haben ein paar wunderschöne Tage in Gießen verbracht und sehr gut gegessen.

Sehr leckere Hausmannskost, viele sagen so ziemlich die beste in Gießen. Würde ich mich persönlich anschließen. Noch dazu sehr freundliche Bedienung, immer gute Stimmung im Laden und das einzige was ein bisschen stehengeblieben ist, sind die Preise. Für die Qualität sehr günstig, sehr zu empfehlen!

Würde auf jeden Fall empfehlen, zu reservieren. Das Personal ist äußerst freundlich und sorgt dafür, dass man sich wohl fühlt. Das Essen ist qualitativ hochwertig und schmeckt hervorragend. Die Portionen sind groß und das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis stimmt hier definitiv. Wir kommen gerne wieder - eine klare Empfehlung für alle, die Lust auf traditionelle deutsche Küche haben!

Ein bürgerliches Traditionslokal in Gießen, das sich regem Zuspruch von unterschiedlichen Besuchergruppen erfreut. Die Atmosphäre hat etwas von "liebenswerter und guter alter Zeit".

Urig, gut besucht, hessische Spezialitäten, Essen gut und grosse Portionen, Bedienung wieselflink. Nicht umsonst gut besucht.

Uriges Restaurant mit deftigem und sehr leckerem Essen. Das Ambiete ist sehr gemütlich, allerdings ist der Hawwerkasten immer gut besucht. Der Besuch lohnt sich auf jeden Fall.

Volle fünf Punkte in allen Kategorien!!! Das Essen ist immer der Hammer. Portionen sind gut. Der Handkäsesalat ist groß und richtig lecker. Rinderbraten und Rinderroulade mit Rotkraut und Klöße schmecken mega gut. Der Service ist 1a 👌. Wir hatten für vier Leute reserviert, aber der Platz war nicht soooo gut. Als der Tisch an der Theke frei wurde, konnten wir den in Beschlag nehmen. Die sind total flexibel. Das Ambiente - muss man selbst erleben und auf sich wirken lassen. Immer wieder gerne! Auch im Sommer draußen ist es schön.

Wir waren spontan Samstagmittag zu zweit eine Kleinigkeit essen. Sie müssen aufjedenfall reservieren! Wir hatten Glück, dass ein Tisch zu dem Zeitpunkt frei war und wir nur eine Suppe essen wollten. Wir haben die Erbsensuppe gehabt, die hervorragend war. Kleines Uriges, hessische Restaurant, die Ihr Fleisch direkt von nebenan (Metzgerei) bezieht. Kann ich nur weiterempfehlen. Wir waren schon öfter da und hatten immer sehr gutes Essen. Preis Leistung passt. Danke dafür 🫶🏼

Only mini schnitzels left ☹️ Compared to our last visit in March, the schnitzel has shrunk considerably. It's also flat and boringly pale, nothing like what I'm used to. A shame, I was really looking forward to it. The taste was good, but for €19 with sauce, I probably won't be back. When I asked about it, they said it was just pounded less thin and that I could have ordered more if I'd been hungry 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Rustic atmosphere, a bit noisy, but it was also packed. The goose tasted good, but unfortunately it was in the oven a bit too long and very dry. Good and friendly service; go here if it's not too crowded.

I've tried many schnitzels in Giessen, but this one was by far the best. I had the schnitzel with green sauce – the breading was perfect, crispy, and well-seasoned, just as you'd want it. The service was excellent: we were served immediately, there was no waiting, and the staff was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was also great – cozy, pleasant, and well-maintained. We arrived quite early, so it was still quiet, which actually contributed to a relaxed dining experience. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable visit – I'll definitely be back!

We were there for my brother's birthday and had only known the restaurant by name! The service was excellent, and the rustic ambiance made it a pleasant place to linger! The food was plentiful and delicious, although fries or croquettes (especially for the kids) would have been fantastic! Otherwise, we were very impressed! Dogs are also very welcome here :)

The food is, of course, great, but we've had several very negative experiences when ordering food by phone and trying to pick it up. Once, we specifically called shortly before 5:00 p.m. and were asked to call back shortly after the shift change, which was shortly after 5:00 a.m. After that, no one answered the phone for an hour, until we gave up. The next time, I was asked to stay on the line for a very short time. After 20 minutes on the line, I gave up again. Of course, no one answered the phone after that. It's really disappointing to see loyal customers who have supported Hawwerkasten with takeaway deliveries even during the pandemic treated like this. So why not simply ban phone orders if they've become such a chore?

The Wissicher Pann (a kind of pancake) was delicious. The restaurant is quaint. The service and the owner were very friendly. It's definitely worth a visit.

Real buzz about the place when we got there. We hadn't booked so they could only accommodate us outside. It wS a pleasant evening so that was fine. A menu of traditional German food. Hard to choose from a great selection, but settled on belschuh (meatball) deluxe. Absolutely wonderful ❤️. My brother had the same and my nephew went for the roulade. They were not disappointed either. Staff very helpful. Prices not at all out of the way. Whole heartedly recommended this restaurant

The service was very friendly, the reserved table was tiny. Two rows of seats on the sidewalk are what they call a beer garden here, okay. The beer was great, the pork schnitzel was good too, the ham hocks were small, the veal schnitzel and fried potatoes were rather so-so, and the potato salad was bad. And €27 for a Jägerschnitzel...pork...with fried potatoes and salad, no thanks.

My daughter always says you can eat "High German" here. I think you can get very good Hessian home cooking here, and the Bellschuh is the best I know. I'd be happy to come back.

I was in Giessen on business and this restaurant was recommended to me. It was worth the walk. The staff were very friendly, the rustic ambiance was wonderful, and the food was world-class. The portions and value for money were also excellent. If you're in the area, stop by and see for yourself. Full marks. Keep it up. 👍

We were only outside in the beer garden. Two large tables had been folded up. The other free tables had reserved signs. When we asked if we could have a seat, the waitress said no, everything was full. I said we just wanted to eat and not stay seated, so we were seated at one of the tables with the reserved sign. When ordering, I had questions about the dishes, which must have taken too long for the waitress, as she was annoyed when she answered. We ordered a schnitzel with mushrooms and bread, and a hawker rump salad. Both came quite quickly, and the portions were large. While we were eating, the other tables where she had sent us away were opened up. Conclusion: The portions are delicious and large, but the service could be better.

One of Giessen's traditional restaurants. "Hessian" specialties of the highest quality. You'll meet people there you haven't seen in a long time. A relaxed atmosphere that rivals any Äppelwoi restaurant in Frankfurt. The in-house butcher shop next door ensures the highest quality meat and sausages. The entire staff is very friendly and prompt. I immediately reserved a table for our in-person meeting so that my colleagues can experience the authentic life of Giessen's gastronomy.

We received a very friendly welcome. I was there for the first time a few years ago, and hardly anything has changed. The food is still as delicious and affordable as it was back then. We'll be holding our internal Christmas party with you again this year. IMPORTANT: RESERVATIONS ARE ABSOLUTELY NEEDED, EVEN DURING WEEKDAYS

I've never felt so comfortable in a restaurant. The staff notices when I'm thirsty, even after a sumptuous meal. They always have a funny joke on their lips, and it's quickly followed up! The rooms are clean and modern. They offer a view of Giessen Castle. My next trip to Giessen will definitely end here!

This restaurant only loses a star because it is close to impossible to get a reservation there,other than that food is excellent. I know this sounds funny but it's getting harder and harder to find good German food in Germany but this place still does it and they do it amazingly well. I would love to go back there if I could ever get a reservation again.😅 It took me close to 2 months the last time to get one.

The website states that there is always hot food on weekends. We were informed on site that the kitchen would be closed between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. A hint that this should be adjusted on the website would be commented on with a stupid saying. We then went to Justus and had a very good meal there

Really cool, rustic cuisine, there are also great things for vegetarians, but not so much for vegans. Everything really tastes really good. It's very comfortable to sit in and the beer is of course great. If you want to have a good home-style meal, this is really a top address.

The Hawwerkasten is a cozy, small pub in the heart of Gießen. The atmosphere is very pleasant, many people from different age groups come together here. It's worth making a reservation because the restaurant isn't very big. But you will be rewarded with a very good menu, friendly service and great service. It's definitely not the last time I've been here...
