KIKU Restaurant in Quedlinburg

Wir waren total überrascht, in einer Kleinstadt wie Quedlinburg ein so kreatives asiatisches Fusionsrestaurant zu finden, und es hat uns absolut begeistert! Wir waren im Dezember 2025 dort. Als Liebhaber der asiatischen Küche war ich besonders beeindruckt, wie authentisch und raffiniert manche Aromen waren, gleichzeitig aber kreativ und wunderschön mit westlichen Elementen der gehobenen Küche kombiniert. Das unvergesslichste Gericht für mich war Har Gow. Es fühlte sich wirklich fast so an, als würde man es in Ostasien essen. Der Koch erzählte uns, er habe die Zubereitung in Japan gelernt, und man konnte die Technik und Präzision wirklich schmecken. Die Schaumbisque war ebenfalls unglaublich, so aromatisch und vollmundig – etwas, das man in vielen deutschen Restaurants tatsächlich nur schwer findet. Der Chawanmushi war ein weiteres Highlight: sehr intensiv im Geschmack, wohltuend und perfekt ausbalanciert. Der Service war insgesamt in Ordnung, obwohl er meiner Meinung nach noch etwas verbessert werden könnte. Die alkoholfreie Getränkebegleitung war nett, aber ich hätte mir gewünscht, sie wäre etwas aufregender gewesen und hätte besser zum Essen gepasst. Trotzdem haben wir den Besuch sehr genossen.

Das war ein Abend, den wir nie vergessen werden. So gut haben wir noch nie gegessen, die Erklärungen rund um die einzelnen Gänge waren sehr interessant und individuell. Die alkoholfreie Getränkebegleitung war sehr lecker und passte perfekt. Klar zahlt man ne Menge Geld, aber das ist es allemal wert!! Gerne wieder, vielleicht finden wir ja jemanden der uns einlädt;-)

Ich war zum dritten Mal im Kiku und dieses Mal gibt es nichts was mir nicht gefallen hat! Tolles Essen, super nette und kompetente Bedienung! Wir hatten einen super Abend und kommen sicher wieder!

Überragende Kochkunst und Leidenschaft in tollem Ambiente. Besonders hervorzuheben ist der respektvolle und kreative Umgang mit überwiegend regionalen und nachhaltig ausgewählten Zutaten. Mit viel Liebe zum Detail werden daraus kleine, durchdachte Kunstwerke, perfekt harmonisierend begleitet durch teils überraschende Getränke. Ein absoluter Fine Dining Geheimtipp. Vielen Dank an Jan Fribus und sein gesamtes Team vom Kiku für schon so viele wunderschöne Abende!

Das Essen war wirklich herausragend, die Küche hat den Michelin-Stern absolut verdient. Jeder Gang war sehr raffiniert, geschmacklich hervorragend und optisch wunderschön angerichtet. Auch die Weinbegleitung hat uns sehr gut gefallen und war perfekt auf die Gerichte abgestimmt. Kulinarisch war der Abend wirklich auf höchstem Niveau. Leider wurde dieses Erlebnis massiv durch das Verhalten einer Servicekraft überschattet. Am Tag vor unserem Besuch wurden wir telefonisch gefragt, ob unsere Reservierung bestehen bleibt und ob Allergien oder Unverträglichkeiten vorliegen. Das haben wir verneint, weil wir keine Allergien haben. Dass wir Pescetarier sind, haben wir in dem Moment nicht erwähnt, weil explizit nur nach Allergien und Unverträglichkeiten gefragt wurde. Den Gästen am Nebentisch ging es übrigens genauso, wir waren also nicht die Einzigen. Als wir dann vor Ort erwähnten, dass wir kein Fleisch essen, reagierte die Servicekraft mit völlig entgleisten Gesichtszügen und sagte sofort: „Jetzt haben wir ein Problem, das hätten Sie mir sagen müssen.“ Als ich daraufhin anmerkte, dass man – wenn das offenbar so relevant ist – auch gezielt danach hätte fragen können, wiederholte sie nur mehrfach, dass wir das hätten sagen müssen, und wurde ab diesem Moment spürbar unfreundlich und regelrecht zickig. Da es im Menü nur zwei Fleischgänge gab und dafür gleichwertige Fischalternativen vorhanden waren, schlugen wir vor, diese einfach wegzulassen – zumal wir ohnehin nur das 8-Gänge-Menü und nicht die 10 Gänge wollten. Die Antwort war ein schlichtes und kategorisches Nein. Keine Lösung, keine Flexibilität, kein Entgegenkommen. So etwas Unflexibles und gleichzeitig Unverschämtes habe ich in einem Restaurant dieser Kategorie ehrlich gesagt noch nie erlebt – erst recht nicht bei einem Abend, für den man am Ende fast 500 Euro bezahlt. Wir waren kurz davor, den Manager dazuzuholen oder einfach zu gehen, wollten uns den Abend dann aber nicht komplett verderben lassen. Außerdem muss man sagen: Alle anderen Mitarbeiter waren ausgesprochen herzlich, aufmerksam und professionell. Auch die Küche hat spontan hervorragende Alternativen für die Fleischgänge gezaubert, die wirklich exzellent waren. Und auch die zunächst so unfreundliche Servicekraft wurde im Verlauf des Abends versöhnlicher. Trotzdem ärgern wir uns rückblickend noch sehr über diesen Umgang. So behandelt man Gäste nicht – schon gar nicht in einem Restaurant mit diesem Anspruch. Das ist besonders schade, weil Essen, Ambiente und das restliche Team eigentlich eine glatte 5-Sterne-Erfahrung verdient hätten.

Wir sind regelmäßig in der gehobenen Gastronomie zu Hause, also durfte auch ein Besuch im KIKU nicht fehlen, als wir vom aufstrebenden Jan Fribus und seiner Küche gelesen haben. ⭐️ Gesamtfazit Der Abend war insgesamt solide, konnte die Erwartungen an ein Restaurant mit Michelin-Ambitionen jedoch nicht erfüllen. Während die Küche teilweise überzeugt, zeigen sich insbesondere beim Service und Interieur deutliche Schwächen. Ein erneuter Besuch ist für uns derzeit eher unwahrscheinlich. ⸻ 🪑 Interieur & Atmosphäre Das Ambiente konnte nicht überzeugen und wirkte in sich unstimmig und ungemütlich: • Unausgereiftes Lichtkonzept, teilweise unangenehm • Schlechte Akustik, besonders bei größeren und lauteren Gruppen • Bistrotische ohne stimmiges Gesamtbild • Sichtbare Abnutzung (z. B. Teils Lackabplatzer) die den Eindruck mindern Fazit: Hier besteht deutlicher Nachbesserungsbedarf, um ein angenehmes und hochwertiges Ambiente zu schaffen. ⸻ 🍷 Service Der Service war der größte Kritikpunkt des Abends: • Mangelnde Weinkenntnis: Fragen konnten oft nicht kompetent beantwortet werden • Unsicheres Auftreten: Informationen mussten erst auf den Flaschen nachgelesen werden • Unsauberes Einschenken: Tropfen auf dem Tisch, welch nicht nachgewischt wurden • Fehlende Verkostungsmöglichkeit: Kein Probieren vor der Wahl der Weinbegleitung • Umgang mit Feedback: Reklamationen wurden nicht angemessen aufgenommen • Aufmerksamkeit: Leere Gläser (Wein und Wasser) wurden spät bemerkt Fazit: Für ein Restaurant mit gehobenem Anspruch ist der Service aktuell nicht auf dem erwarteten Niveau und sollte dringend geschult werden. ⸻ 🍽️ Küche Das Essen war insgesamt gut, mit Licht und Schatten: • Menü auf gehobenem Preisniveau, noch ohne Michelin-Stern • Einige Gerichte überzeugend und qualitativ hochwertig • Teilweise jedoch unausgewogen: • Makrele geschmacklich zu neutral • Dessertfolge nicht optimal abgestimmt (sehr süß, dann eher herb zum Schluss - Pastinakeneis als Abschluss) Fazit: Gute Ansätze sind vorhanden, aber bei Feinabstimmung und Komposition besteht noch Verbesserungspotenzial. ⸻ 🔚 Schlussbewertung Das Restaurant zeigt Ambitionen in Richtung Michelin-Niveau, erreicht dieses aktuell jedoch noch nicht. Besonders Service und Ambiente bleiben deutlich hinter den Erwartungen zurück. Die Küche ist vielversprechend, aber noch nicht durchgehend auf Spitzenniveau.

Ein wunderschöner Abend im Kiku. Das Essen war ein Traum, der Service war unfassbar freundlich. Da ich derzeit schwanger bin, habe ich das vorher angekündigt und darauf wurde wunderbar Rücksicht genommen. Wir hatten dadurch auch die alkoholfreie Begleitung und auch diese ist sehr zu empfehlen. Wir waren sehr zufrieden.

Gruppe 50+. Wir schätzen den Aufwand der angebotenen Kreationen und das kurzfristige Reagieren auf Individualwünsche auf Grund des Fisch-/Krustentier-lastigen Menüs. Im Vergleich zu anderen Restaurants mit ähnlichem Konzept konnte das Menü n unserer Gruppe nicht bestehen. Insbesondere die feinen, angekündigten Aromen konnten nur selten bis gar nicht geschmeckt werden. Das schaffen Koch-Kollegen etwas besser - einstimmiges Urteil in der Gruppe. Erschwert wurde dies, da während des gesamten Menüs ein nicht zu definierender, aber starker Geruch am Tisch vorhanden war. Leider hatten wir dies aus Respektsgründen gegenüber dem Restaurant nicht angesprochen (der Geruch schwankte zwischen Küche und WC-Stein). Am Ende des Abends stellte sich heraus, dass ein unbeschrifteter Steinguttopf auf Kopfhöhe im Fensterbrett stand, der uns diesen nicht appetitlichen Geruch bescherte. Wir empfehlen dem Restaurant aus Gast-Sicht, Lebensmittel, die für den Verzehr bestimmt sind, nicht im Gastraum aufzubewahren oder einen Hinweis anzubringen (nicht anfassen, fermentierte Lebensmittel, stört Sie der Geruch, melden Sie sich bitte) oder die Gäste mindestens beim Eintreffen darauf hinzuweisen. Die Wein- und Saftbegleitungen haben uns ebenfalls nicht positiv überrascht mit einer Ausnahme: Unbedingt den Matcha-Sake probieren.

Wir waren vor Kurzem im Kiku und sind absolut begeistert. Wer in Quedlinburg nach einer Abwechslung zur klassischen deutschen Küche sucht, ist hier genau richtig! ​Wir haben uns für das große Menü entschieden und es nicht bereut. Von den Vorspeisen über den Hauptgang bis hin zum Nachtisch war alles extrem frisch, handwerklich perfekt zubereitet und geschmacklich eine Wucht. Es war wie eine kleine kulinarische Reise durch die asiatische Fusion-Küche – besonders die Anrichtung der verschiedenen Gänge zeigt die Liebe zum Detail. ​Auch der Service war top: aufmerksam, flink und sehr herzlich. Ein großes Lob an das gesamte Team!

The chef is highly talented, and the sophistication and quality of the dishes are outstanding. It's a real pleasure! The service, however, falls far short. It seems disorganized and nervous, and the tone is off. We didn't feel comfortable.

Dear Jan, dear Anastasia, Yesterday I was asked about the best dish: All eleven courses were an inspiration and offered new impressions of flavor combinations that I had expected but not hoped for, so I can't decide. I was thrilled; it was a feast of flavors and their combinations. Many thanks for adapting the dishes for a pescatarian. The crab and eggplant are wonderful substitutes for meat. We visited for the first time this past weekend and were absolutely thrilled. The atmosphere is very cozy and lovely. The staff are all incredibly kind, friendly, and attentive. The chef personally served each guest at least once, explaining each dish – truly fantastic! The food itself was amazing! We've never experienced anything like it and felt like we were on a culinary journey from the first course to the last. Creative, unique, and incredibly delicious! The 10 courses with Asian influences were manageable without being heavy. The wine pairings were very well matched to each dish. On the second evening, the menu and wines were changed, so it never got boring. We will definitely visit the restaurant again. The service couldn't have been friendlier. We wish the team and the restaurant continued success. P.S. Staying in apartment Ano1650 was very convenient; there was only one flight of stairs to KIKU. Very friendly, young, and qualified service staff! We felt well taken care of all evening. It was a truly unique dining experience, something you don't encounter every day. The dishes were beautifully presented with great attention to detail. They primarily used regional products. Our favorite of the evening was the mochi (small rice cake). What more can one add that hasn't already been mentioned by so many reviewers here and on other platforms? Anyone planning to dine here should do their research beforehand to find out what's on offer, what seasonal variations are on the menu, and what style Jan Fribus uses to create them. The coordination of the courses, the pace at which they are served, and the little explanations and stories about the regional origins or inspiration behind the individual dishes from the staff are simply harmonious, perfectly balanced, and worth the price. We also opted for the sake pairing, which was a unique and enjoyable experience in its own right. While the professional, consistently friendly, and attentive service might go without saying in an establishment of this caliber, it's worth mentioning to show everyone involved that evening the gratitude and respect they deserve. Dear Kiku Team, the four of us dined at your restaurant last night and were absolutely delighted by the menu. The service was outstanding, without any ifs, ands, or buts, and the 12-course menu deserves a Michelin star 🌟. We will definitely be back.

This was our second visit to KIKU, and just like the first time, we were absolutely thrilled. Both the kitchen and service teams do an outstanding job. I'd especially like to commend the fact that the restaurant called us a few hours before our reservation to confirm any dietary restrictions, intolerances, or preferences we might have. That's what I call excellent customer service! Each of the eleven courses was a culinary delight, and the carefully selected wine pairings were simply a joy. Clearly, the chefs here know exactly what they're doing and love it – and it shows. Despite this exceptional quality, nothing at KIKU feels artificially hyped or pretentious. The team, led by restaurant manager Eric (a big hello to him!), provided us with a warm, cozy, and relaxed evening that we'll cherish for a long time. We will definitely be back!

A culinary world tour on a plate – Michelin-starred quality with heart and exceptional flexibility Our visit to Kiku in Quedlinburg was a truly exceptional culinary experience. That this restaurant more than deserves its Michelin star was evident in every one of the 11 courses. We were particularly impressed by their flexibility: Even though we only informed them three hours beforehand that my wife is vegan, they created a complete alternative menu of the same high standard for her on the spot – a masterful feat by the kitchen! The menu itself was a captivating journey from Asia to Europe. The connection was masterfully made: • The opening dish, a Harz Mountain tartlet with venison tartare, established a regional connection, while components such as shiso marinade and hamachi ceviche immediately introduced Asian finesse. • The start with a Harz Mountain tartlet and venison tartare immediately connected the dishes to the region, while components like shiso marinade and hamachi ceviche added Asian finesse. • • Absolute highlights were the wonton soup with its rich umami broth and the Japanese egg custard, chawanmushi, with black cod. • The return to Europe was perfectly executed with a flawlessly prepared fjord trout Wellington in Vin Jaune. • The hibachi venison combined the best of both worlds: local game prepared on a traditional Japanese grill. A bold and ingenious finale was the pavlova with black garlic and parsnip ice cream – a combination you won't soon forget. As a teetotaler, I enjoyed the homemade juice pairing. It was incredibly complex and perfectly matched to each course – a true revelation! The service was outstanding: highly professional, attentive, and present, yet pleasantly unobtrusive and relaxed. In conclusion: Kiku offers fine dining without the stuffiness, but with maximum creativity and hospitality. An absolute highlight in the Harz Mountains!

It was by far the best culinary experience of my life. Incredibly delicious, personalized service, excellent ingredients, a pleasant atmosphere, and great value for money. The wines and sake drinks are also amazing. So if you want to experience something new, set aside 3-4 hours and enjoy an 11-course menu. You'll be speechless! Many thanks to the entire KIKU team!

We were in this beautiful restaurant yesterday and can honestly say that we've never experienced anything like it. The ambiance, the service, and above all, the cuisine created the most wonderful evening we've ever had in a restaurant. It all started with the welcome from E. The chef, F., and E. again then guided us through the menu, explaining in detail the preparation of each dish and drink, as well as the background to them. We were also regularly asked if everything was to our liking, from the speed of the service to the drinks. Even though I've seen many restaurants around the world, this evening at Kiku will always be a cherished memory. To quote an American action star with Austrian roots, "I'll be back!" A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this evening so special, and please keep up the great work, you flavor explosion experts! ;-)

This restaurant is simply a combination of fabulous gourmet dishes and outstanding service. The ingredients used in these culinary magic are of the highest quality and sourced either from the restaurant's own garden or locally from Demeter farms. It's absolutely amazing; you absolutely must make a reservation and allow plenty of time for the 11-course menu!

It was a delightful evening. The service was very good. However, there was one drawback: The main course, "duck," was difficult to cut with a knife. I couldn't enjoy the meat. What happened? The staff's comment that they had no problems tasting the meat is irrelevant. It sounds more like, "What do you want?" Are they taking me seriously? I expect tender meat. KIKU is a magical place that utterly enchanted us. A huge compliment to the chefs who crafted this experience with such passion. The 10-course menu was a journey through flavors, where each plate felt like it was telling its own story. The courses were presented with such warmth and attention to detail that we felt like we were stepping directly into the magic of the kitchen. The wine pairings were superb. The sommelier knew how to open another window into this world with each glass, with a blend of passion, knowledge, and genuine warmth. The service deserves high praise: attentive, warm, unobtrusive, and with that refined touch that makes you feel perfectly at ease. This place exudes something special. We left feeling fulfilled, happy, and with the certainty that we will return. A visit to KIKU is a gift. We wish everyone could experience it. This extraordinary culinary journey towards Japan, using regional products, conjures up a truly delightful evening. The wine pairings could be a bit bolder to complement the complex flavors. Somewhat surprisingly, the menu arrived without prices. Only a search on the website provided the desired information.

I ate at Kiku yesterday, and it was the best decision I made during my two-day stay in Quedlinburg—one I won't soon forget. I was greeted very warmly, almost like a friend I hadn't seen in ages. Even the menu included a personal, handwritten note. The very young waiter was extremely polite, yet relaxed. He explained the dishes in detail, with wit and charm, and seemed as if he'd never done anything else in his life. I could tell he truly knew what he was talking about. For him, service really seems to be a calling. A big compliment to him! I felt completely at ease and well cared for. His colleague was always immediately available to fulfill any further requests. My glasses were never empty (thanks again for the recommendation of the best spritzer I've ever had). The food was indescribable; every course was a delight. A true sensory experience. Not only was the taste, of course, excellent, but the mouthfeel of the saithe, venison, mochi, and other dishes was phenomenal. Even the texture, as some courses were explicitly recommended as finger food, was sometimes quite intriguing (I'm still amazed by the velvety soft feel of the mochi on my fingers), not to mention the loving presentation on plates and in small bowls. The final course was served by the chef himself, who also explained it in detail, very modestly, almost shyly. In total, I spent almost four hours at Kiku and, despite having no one to talk to, didn't feel the need to distract myself with my phone or anything else for a single minute. Time flew by. Thank you so much, dear Kiku team, you gave me a wonderful evening, and I sincerely wish you the Michelin star you so richly deserve. On my next visit to Quedlinburg, you are definitely a must-visit. From start to finish, this was a fantastic dining experience. The execution of the food itself is superb, but it's the innovative and surprising details on the menu that elevate it from great to truly exceptional. Both the wine and non-alcoholic pairings are crafted with remarkable precision, enhancing every bite. I cannot wait to return. Seriously, that white chocolate with kimchi is a flavor combination I won't soon (ever?) forget!

This was a totally unexpected experience. Amazing food fusion made it difficult to say which dish was the best. Actually , they were all the best. I'd come back to Germany just for this.

I wanted to spontaneously reserve a table at Kiku, but the place was full. A short while later, I received a kind call back. They offered me a seat at the bar, which I gladly accepted. Sitting there wasn't intrusive at all – the servers were super attentive, and I felt completely at home. The food was fantastic, all made with local ingredients and lots of love. The homemade mochi is a dream! What was especially cool was that the chefs brought out the dishes themselves, even though there were only two of them in the kitchen. Authentic, warm, and not at all pretentious – simply a truly lovely evening! 😊

A gem in Quedlinburg – a journey through Asian cuisine with perfect craftsmanship and loving presentation. We had a harmonious menu in this wonderful setting in the old town. And what really impressed us was the elaborate and absolutely fantastic non-alcoholic accompaniment: various juices from local fruits and vegetables, fermented to unimaginable heights. A wonderful evening with the help of friendly and competent service. Nothing against schnitzel and the like, but KIKU is truly a revelation that no one should miss. I expect a star next year, dear friends of Michelin :-)

It was the most wonderful and delicious restaurant experience in a long time. We had the restaurant (unfortunately for KIKU) exclusively for the four of us. We were able to enjoy the culinary highlights from the kitchen directly with the chef while discussing the food. This was followed by nine phenomenal, Asian-influenced courses of the highest quality, the likes of which we hadn't even recently enjoyed at Tim Raue's. We were there on Sunday from 6 p.m. – my husband had made a special reservation on our trip to Wismar and back, having discovered the restaurant in Quedlinburg online. – we often visit Michelin-starred and fine-dining restaurants, so with this in mind, we were treated to an absolutely outstanding, unsurpassably wonderful evening with Jan Fribus and his wonderful team! From the personalized greeting on the menu, the natural, charming, and attentive service to the presentation (which couldn't be more beautiful than Lana's flowers in Japan) and the taste of the dishes – I almost lack the words to express our joy that we were able to experience all of this while Jan Fribus (inexplicably) hasn't yet earned his first Michelin star – we've often had worse meals in Michelin-starred restaurants! The explanations and presentations by the young, competent team members were also outstanding, for example, on the fermentation of kimchi and the experimentation in the kitchen until the creations meet the chef's standards. We've never been able to gain such close, informative, and inspiring insights anywhere else. It was tremendous fun because at Kiku you can feel that everyone is putting their heart and soul into it. The crowning finale was the sake tasting and the background of sake production that Eric gave us – not even a very good Japanese restaurant in Frankfurt was able to do that: now we know how the different quality characteristics are created. Quedlinburg has an absolute gem here, renowned far beyond the region. Thank you so much for letting us meet Jan in person – we hope to see him and all of you again soon – the flavor fusion of regional products and Asian delicacies is brilliantly realized here.

The Michelin star would have been well-deserved in March. The cuisine is exceptional, the service is exceptionally friendly and professional, and the ambiance is lovely. Get there quickly. KIKU is still a culinary bargain. When the star arrives in 2026, it will certainly be more expensive. But even then, a visit will certainly be worthwhile.

Everything was perfect from start to finish. The service was very attentive, and each course, including the matching wines, was explained in detail. Every member of staff, including Jan Fribus, served us at least twice. The regionality, quality, and appearance of the dishes overwhelmed us. It was, without exaggeration, one of the best dining experiences we've ever had. At the end of the meal, we were even invited into the kitchen and had the opportunity to chat with Jan Fribus and his kitchen colleague. As we already mentioned, Jan Fribus and his Kiku more than deserve our first Michelin star.

Magnificent, yet difficult to describe: this unforgettable evening begins with an inviting ambiance and a warm welcome that makes us feel at home from the very first seconds. The hosts share their concept and ideas with us in a most pleasant way. Each course, including the thoughtful wine pairing, is explained to us in a lively manner – without the usual finger-pointing, but rather authentic and understandable. The dishes are sensational, and the feeling of being cared for by a team that 'puts the essence of their passion on the table' and not just 'just' very, very good food, makes our visit a wonderful evening. Back to the beginning: it's truly difficult to describe: the sum of so many details at first and second glance – and much more than just the 'ingredients' needed for a great evening. Book early and take your time – you're in the best hands!

A sensational stay. I don't even know where to begin or end. The food is truly delicious, but the service and warmth top it all (which isn't easy with such good food). A handwritten menu was placed at our table, something I've never experienced before. The sommelier was incredibly welcoming (just like the chefs), and we never felt he was stressed. He took the time to chat about the wines, and we felt completely well looked after. The restaurant somehow doesn't fit in with the city, yet at the same time, it's an absolute win. Anyone who really wants to eat well (and can appreciate it) should definitely plan an evening here. For me, it would even be worth traveling from Berlin to eat here. There's no official star yet, but in my opinion, that's only a matter of time. Anything else would surprise me. The price and performance are more than justified—I've eaten much worse in Michelin-starred restaurants for more money. But once again: the warm advice on the wines and the chefs were truly fantastic, without exception. Thank you for a truly wonderful evening!
