Edit: After a few months, I made it back to KIKU, and I was very surprised. Positive! The development the kitchen has undergone since my last visit is fascinating. The dishes were delicious last time, but this time they were even more balanced, more beautifully presented, and more flavorful! The new server is also bringing a lot to the restaurant; a young, dedicated man who is already at a high level. I've been to several star-rated restaurants since my last visit, and I have to say that, with one exception, I would prefer KIKU every time. Keep up the good work, and see you next time! An absolutely harmonious restaurant; everything from the visual appearance to the background music to the food is perfectly coordinated. The quality of the tuna was particularly noteworthy; this quality, along with the flavors from the Japanese grill, was incredible. The processing of the products and the development of the flavors in the individual dishes is truly superb. They're a great small team, considering all the work that goes into them, incredible! See you again!

Thank you for the wonderful evening. Everything is really right, ambience, service and the excellent food. All senses were addressed, we noticed and, more importantly, we tasted the loving handling of the food. The wine accompaniment was well chosen and suited our taste. Our favorite of the menu was the excellent trout, simply delicious. We would like to thank Jan and his very friendly team again for an unforgettable evening. Wie immer ein absoluter Genuss. Das Menü eine Offenbarung in Vielfalt, Optik und Geschmack. Die Weine passend und interessant gewählt. Der Service freundlich und kompetent. Das Preisniveau absolut angemessen. Herr Fribus, der es sich nicht nehmen lies drei Mal an meinen Tisch zu kommen, und sein Team definieren die Standards für den Nordharz neu. Und nicht nur für den Nordharz. Gerne werde ich auch zukünftig den Weg von Leipzig aus nach Quedlinburg machen. Er ist mehr als lohnenswert. Er ist lebenswert.

Wir waren gestern Abend zu Gast im KiKu. Von Anfang bis zum Ende ein Erlebnis sowohl im Service als auch aus der Küche. Der Service glänzte mit Wein - und Gängekenntnissen und brachte alles gekonnt und locker an den Tisch. Jan kam zwei mal an den Tisch und erklärte die gebrachten Gänge. I would give 6 stars if I could! As soon as you enter KIKU you feel that the guest is in the foreground. The head waiter is polite, attentive and courteous. You notice this from the moment your coat is taken away and you are shown to your table. The tables are set clean and minimalist. We were very kindly informed that even if some components seemed unusual or flavor combinations seemed unusual, we should put ourselves in the hands of the chef and that was absolutely the right decision!!! The menu is written in such a way that everything is understandable for the guest, but behind every dish described in 2 or 3 words there is a whole arsenal of fabulously harmonizing components. At our request, one of our two menus was prepared vegetarian, but it was in no way lacking in sophistication. You can taste that the kitchen is confident in every course and prepares every dish with heart. I would particularly like to emphasize that, in addition to a fantastically corresponding wine tour, a juice accompaniment is also offered, made from homemade, partly fermented juices, which accompanied the courses in a tasty and harmonious manner. Water is always refilled between courses and empty glasses, plates and cups are immediately cleared away and cutlery is always set to match the course. Here again special praise for the service. The price of €135 for the 8-course menu preceded by an amuse bouche and €55 for the wine tour is ABSOLUTELY justified and you leave the restaurant feeling full. The KIKU is worth a trip to Quedlinburg We'd love to come back.

Unser Besuch "zwischen den Jahren" im KIKU bescherte uns ein Menu, das zum besten gehört, was wir in letzter Zeit gegessen haben. Es war unser zweiter Besuch in diesem Restaurant. Diesmal war nicht nur das Essen wieder ausgezeichnet, sondern auch der Service kompetent, flink und sehr freundlich. Das einzige, was man vielleicht bemängeln könnte, war die etwas zu niedrige Temperatur im Restaurant. Die einzelnen Gänge waren sehr vielfältig, eine Inspiration aus asiatischer und französischer Küche. Die Fisch- und Fleischgänge nicht zu trocken, sondern genau auf den Punkt gegart. Zum Glück gab es kein Brot, so dass wir bis zum Dessert alles mit gutem Appetit essen konnten. Die Wein- und die Saftbegleitung war auch ausgezeichnet. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder!

Unfortunately, our waitress was very stressed and didn't say anything more about the food than what was on the menu. The next drinks to accompany the drinks were brought without asking whether we should continue. In some cases we hadn't even finished the previous ones. I just realized that I hadn't rated it yet. I was there with my girlfriend for her birthday in May and we enjoyed the menu accompanied by wine. It was wonderful, an incredible taste experience and you can feel how much soul the restaurant is run with. We're already looking forward to the next time!

Quote Michelin Guide: (…)“The service is friendly and informal, the chefs come to the table and charmingly explain the dishes. The best way to get to know the cuisine is with the 9-course menu, but there is also an attractive à la carte menu.” We didn't find an a la menu offer. There was only the choice between “with or without lobster”, which certainly didn’t justify the price difference of 40 euros in the end “for lobster hidden in squid”. But from the beginning: The reception was courteous. The decor seems cold, uninviting and cozy. Acoustically challenging. It was difficult to have a conversation at the table, especially with the background noise of the tap and coffee machine behind us. On the table there is a plant with dry leaves and a hectically flashing Christmas tree in the field of vision. The staff was not completely familiar with the menu. They had probably only recently changed and the day-to-day business probably involves a lot of changing staff. Uniform clothing, especially footwear, would make the picture appear more rounded. The presentation of the wines and dishes was repeated very quickly and was difficult to understand due to the acoustics. The first course, venison tartar, was presented as wagyu beef and when asked it was explained that it was probably beef in the previous menu, but now it was venison mixed with beef. So what. The course was so acidic that you couldn't taste what meat it was anyway. The first course should be the perfect introduction to the menu and leave you wanting more. In this case it led to us almost choosing to exit. The scallops in second gear - it seemed - was able to turn things around: you guessed it, unfortunately not. The crab with umami was ok. My tomato allergy was taken into account. According to demand, dim sum is prepared a la minute, a few seconds more wouldn't have hurt. The dough was “still dry” more like they had already dried out a bit because they were being prepared. The lobster was elegantly hidden inside an octopus. Taste ok. Certainly not worth the extra cost in the menu. A spilled faux pax on the table was only removed upon request. The worst case scenario was supposed to happen in aisle six. The DUCK: According to the presentation, the duck was grilled with some fancy donuts. The duck's skin was limp and greasy. The duck was cold and couldn't be cut without having to maneuver almost the entire pedestal-like plate across the table. The complaint was received with the following words. “Would you like to do the whole thing again?! But that takes time…” After waiting a few minutes we were offered some more wine. In total, the delay took more than twenty minutes. The second attempt was okay. We also asked again - this should be mentioned positively - whether everything was okay. I don't want to say anything about the rest of the courses. Overall, the service was very attentive, but no feel-good atmosphere was created. It seems as if the service team lacks guidance. The conversation with the boss himself seems to be reserved only for selected tables, so we only saw Jan Fribus from a distance. And: Especially if you send a cold, inedible duck, isn't it professional honor to briefly explain and clear it up at the table? Conclusion: more appearance than reality. Wanted too much. And the great individual components are not showcased, but mixed up with too many different flavors. A ReFa friend of mine always said: “The guest should have the feeling that it is the best evening for them.” Unfortunately that wasn't it. Positive: The Kintsugi technique is used to repair wine glasses. And the young employee was able to explain this directly. Sustainable. As a quick aside: A dry vanity would be nice and filled containers for cream etc., if offered, too. We won't come back. Good luck reaching for the stars.

Am besten lernt man die Küche mit dem 9-Gänge-Menü kennen, ein ansprechendes A-la-carte-Angebot gibt es aber auch.“ Ein a la Karte Angebot fanden wir nicht vor. Es gab nur die Wahl zwischen „mit oder ohne Hummer“ was den Preisunterschied von 40 Euro am Ende „für in Tintenfisch versteckten Hummer“ sicher nicht rechtfertigte. Aber von vorne: Der Empfang war zuvorkommend. Die Einrichtung wirkt kühl, nicht einladend und gemütlich. Akustisch herausfordernd. Eine Unterhaltung am Tisch schwierig, vor allem mit der Geräuschkulisse von Zapfanlage und Kaffeemaschine im Rücken. Auf dem Tisch eine Pflanze mit trockenen Blätter und ein hektisch blinkender Weihnachtsbaum im Sichtfeld. Das Personal war nicht vollends mit der Menu Karte vertraut.Hatte wohl vor kurzem erst gewechselt und das Tagesgeschäft wird wohl auch mit viel wechselndem Personal beschickt. Eine einheitliche Kleidung, vor allem beim Schuhwerk würde das Bild runder erscheinen lassen. Die Vorstellung der Weine und Speisen war sehr schnell runtergeleiert und aufgrund der Akustik schwerlich zu verstehen. Der 1. Gang, Reh Tartar, wurde als wagyu Rind vorgestellt und auf Nachfrage wurde erklärt, dass es wohl im vorher gehenden menu Rind war, es nun aber Reh sei, gemischt mit Rind. So what. Der Gang war so übersäuert, dass man eh nicht schmecken konnte um welches Fleisch es sich handelt. Der 1.Gang sollte der perfekte Einstieg in das Menu sein und Lust auf mehr machen. In diesem Fall führte es dazu, dass wir fast den Ausstieg gewählt hätten. Die Jakobsmuscheln im 2. Gang - so schien es - war in der Lage das Ruder rumzudrehen: sie ahnen es, leider nein. Die Krabbe mit Umami war ok. Auf meine Tomaten Allergie wurde geachtet. Dim Sum werden laut Nachfrage a la Minute zubereitet, ein paar Sekunden mehr hätten nicht geschadet. Der Teig war „noch trocken“ eher als ob sie schon etwas angetrocknet waren, weil sie vorbereitet werden. Der Hummer hatte sich elegant in einem Tintenfisch versteckt. Geschmacklich ok. Den Mehrpreis im Menu sicherlich nicht wert. Ein gekleckerter faux pax auf dem Tisch wurde erst auf Nachfrage entfernt. Der Supergau sollte sich in Gang sechs ereignen. Die ENTE: Laut Vorstellung wurde die Ente gegrillt mit bissl schickedöns. Die Haut der Ente war labbrig fettig. Die Ente kalt, ließ sich nicht schneiden ohne fast den ganzen Podest artigen Teller über den Tisch zu bugsieren. Die Reklamation wurde mit folgenden Worten entgegen genommen. „möchten sie das ganze nochmal neu ?! Das dauert dann aber…“ Nach einigen Warteminuten wurde uns noch etwas Wein angeboten. Insgesamt hat die Verzögerung mehr als zwanzig Minuten in Anspruch genommen. Der 2. Versuch war dann okay. Es wurde - dies sei positiv erwähnt - auch nochmal nachgefragt, ob nun alles okay sei. Über die restlichen Gänge möchte ich keinerlei Worte verlieren. Insgesamt war der Service sehr bemüht, es wurde aber keine Wohlfühl Atmosphäre geschaffen. Es wirkt, als ob dem ServiceTeam Anleitung fehlt. Das Gespräch mit dem Chef selbst scheint nur ausgewählten Tischen vorbehalten zu sein, so dass wir Jan Fribus nur aus der Entfernung sahen. Und: Gerade wenn man eine kalte, nicht genießbare Ente schickt, ist es nicht Berufsehre, das selbst kurz am Tisch zu erklären und zu bereinigen? Fazit: mehr Schein als Sein. Zu viel gewollt. Und dabei die tollen Einzelkomponenten nicht in Szene gesetzt, sondern mit zu viel verschiedenen Geschmacksrichtungen durcheinander gebracht. Eine ReFa Freundin von mir sagte immer: „Der Gast sollte das Gefühl haben, dass es für ihn der schönste Abend ist.“ Das war es leider nicht. Positiv: Mit der Kintsugi Technik werden Weingläser repariert. Und der junge Mitarbeiter konnte dies direkt erklären. Nachhaltig. Kurz am Rande: Ein trockener Waschtisch wäre schön und aufgefüllte Behälter für Creme etc. ,wenn es angeboten wird, auch. Wir werden nicht wieder kommen. Viel Glück beim Griff nach den Sternen.

Exceptional in quality, ingenuity and taste. The personal care of the Maitre de Cuisine Fribus and his small team is wonderful. The 9-course menu took us 4 hours, which flew by. Jeder einzelne Gang war eine Reise durch unterschiedliche Aromenwelten. Hervorragend waren die einzelnen Gänge aufeinander abgestimmt. Jeder einzelne war ein Erlebnis. It was our first time at KIKU - and it definitely won't be the last time. From the first to the last course everything was excellent. Some are even more than excellent!!! He and his team absolutely and more than deserve the star. Jan Fribus is such an authentic and likeable person - his plates absolutely suit him. We chose the juice accompaniment - and we have to say, one of the best we've ever had. Super fitting! Now to the service: warm and also authentic. It was a great evening all around. By chance we became aware of this treasure in the small town of Quedlinburg. And what a surprise: an incredible culinary world tour at the highest level. We haven't eaten so well yet! Excellent wine selection for the meal, and the non-alcoholic accompaniment with home-fermented drinks is also excellent. Eine kulinarische Reise ins Reich der Geschmackssinne - manchmal überraschend und manchmal überwältigend. I can give a maximum of one point here. I liked the beautifully renovated half-timbered house and the individual courses of the 9-course menu were visually very appealingly arranged. Unfortunately, the taste of the food (with the exception of the first two courses: Tartelette; Toro) did not meet my expectations of fine dining at all. I had the impression that they were trying to impress by combining as many different flavors as possible. However, there was obviously no consideration given to the individual ingredients (e.g. the lobster or the venison steak). At the end, a salty note predominated in most courses, which covered everything up and was probably intended to give the whole thing a Japanese touch. Therefore I canceled the menu with the 8th course. For me, demands and performance are unfortunately disproportionate here.

We found the restaurant completely by chance but to our surprise it was a very happy accident, we had already managed to visit several Michelin star restaurants but this one was special for us. We can only advise everyone to try it, this is exactly what you need if you want something special and unforgettable. The cuisine, the chef, the service and the atmosphere are all 10 and not 5 stars.

Dear Kiku team, On July 27th, 2024 we were able to be guests in your restaurant and would like to thank you in advance for the friendly and uncomplicated contact. About our evening: The welcome was very warm, we were seated quickly and the menu was handed to us quickly. The ambience of the restaurant in a beautiful old half-timbered house is impressive. However, we noticed that the furnishing style didn't always look 100% harmonious - in our opinion, the common thread here wasn't entirely clear. We would like to keep it short and succinct about the food: it was consistently excellent. The dishes were convincing across the board, both in terms of taste and presentation. The portion sizes were more than sufficient. We would particularly like to highlight the San Sebastian cheesecake and the tuna - these two dishes particularly impressed us. We believe that the star for your restaurant based on kitchen performance should be within reach in the coming year. Now to our criticisms: The service was always friendly and helpful, but the explanations about the courses were sometimes a bit poor. This was sometimes due to a language barrier. However, when the chefs explained the courses, the description was detailed and informative. Our biggest point of criticism concerns the non-alcoholic beverage accompaniment. Two of the five drinks were served twice, and there was unfortunately no explanation as to why exactly these drinks were chosen for each course. We would have liked more variety and more detailed explanations here. What should be highlighted positively, however, is that all three drinks that we were able to try tasted excellent and were homemade. We had an unforgettable evening at Kiku Restaurant! With our reservation we ordered the full 9 course menu including drinks. The food was of the highest standard and absolutely equivalent to the dishes from well-known star restaurants in the area. Each course had its own special feature. We really noticed that the small team (only 4 people) authentically cares about the very personal care of the guests. The extraordinary food offers a journey through the stages of the young chef's life, who knows how to make each dish its own attraction. This almost inconspicuous restaurant in Quedlinburg is rightly recommended by the Gaude Michelin! We'll definitely be back!

One does not expect to find a Michelin recommended restaurant in sleepy Quedlinburg, but Kiku has more than earned this distinction. The restaurant is housed in a half-timbered building, many centuries old, which somehow blends perfectly with the comfortable modern interior. The food is a revelation, the highest quality, but still somehow comforting in a way that elevated tasting menus rarely are. A current highlight is the locally-sourced venison as well as the Sebastian cheesecake and fermented plum sorbet. Above all, it is the personal touch of Jan Fribus And his enormous hospitality that make this place, the rarest match of sophistication and warmth. The Michelin guide may have beat me to it, but I could not recommend this place more highly.

Wir haben einen Abend zu zweit im Kiku verbracht und waren Wiederholungstäter. Am Ambiente hat sich leider noch nichts weiter verändert, was dem Essen sicherlich nicht schadet, jedoch passt die Bar/Theke so rein gar nicht zu dem restlichen Stil. Die Begrüßung war sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Als Karte bekommt man 2 lose Zettel in die Hand gedrückt. Einmal für das Menü und einmal die Gtränkekarte. Das fanden wir etwas zu lieblos. Wir haben uns für das große Menü entschieden und haben aber auf die Weinbegleitung verzichtet, da hier die vorgeschlagenen Weine eher „normale bekannte Weine“ für uns waren. Alle Gerichte waren handwerklich und geschmacklich sehr gut zubereitet und lassen wirklich drauf hoffen, dass Quedlinburg bald ein Sternerestaurant hat. Das für uns neue Personal im Service ist noch etwas unsicher aber hat sehr gutes Potential ! Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und auch als wir die letzten Gäste waren wurden wir bis zum letzten Wunsch wirklich gut bedient. Warum nicht 5 Sterne ? 5 Sterne heißt Perfekt und wir denken etwas Luft nach oben ist noch da. Und das Personal braucht noch etwas Schulung. Auch wenn Fragen zu dem jeweiligen Gang sind, sollten sie in den meisten Fällen durch die Kellner erklärt werden können, das war bei uns leider nicht der Fall. Aber wir denken das bekommt noch hin. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall gerne wieder und können einen Besuch nur empfehlen !

Fine dining that deserves at least 2 Michelin Stars !!! We came in late and very spontaneously. Jan prepared pan-seared local venison in an au jus sauce with pumpkin purée. Juli offered excellent service and perfect wine pairing. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, they served us San Sebastián cheesecake and fermented plum sorbet. Jan and Juli saved our night and we will come back to enjoy the full menu. We felt overwhelmed by their enormous hospitality. When in Quedlinburg, YOU HAVE TO GO !!

Wie speisten in einer entspannten und lockeren Atmosphäre mit einem aufmerksamen Personal, was manchmal aber nicht ganz sicher wirkte (beim Wein ging beim Einschenken schon mal etwas neben das Glas, was vom Personal aber nicht bemerkt wurde). Das Neun-Gang-Menü war Spitzenklasse mit tollen Variationen. Die Weinbegleitung war dagegen eher unauffällig, d. h. es wurden bis auf den Sake keine besonders ausdrucksstarken Weine serviert, was aber wiederum auch irgendwie passte, denn so stand das Essen im Vordergrund. Für uns hat Jan Fribus, der auch öfter mal am Tisch vorbeischaute, auf jeden Fall einen Stern verdient!

We were guests at KIKU for the second time now. Excited and very satisfied the first time, we didn't want to deprive our children of this experience and... We weren't disappointed! We felt very comfortable in a very pleasant, yet non-formal atmosphere. The service was charming and unobtrusive and always with a personal touch. The menu was of course outstanding! The products are fresh and of high quality. Many thanks also to you, Mr. Fribus, for giving our daughter a little insight into your "sanctuary", your kitchen. A star in the gastronomic sky of the world heritage site. My mother reserved a table for us to celebrate my birthday. Despite the restaurant being closed (actually closed), they opened the door and patiently listened to her concerns and making a reservation was very easy and uncomplicated. My birthday was taken into account in the reservation and - at no extra charge - there was a small bouquet of flowers for me and congratulations from the boss and the team. You feel very comfortable and can slow down wonderfully from everyday life. We had a juice accompaniment and the 9 course menu (approx. 2 1/2 hours total). The drinks and courses are wonderfully coordinated, the service is fast, incredibly friendly and with attention to detail. Our favorites from the courses are: Chavanmushi & Mochi. You can experience and feel service here. The courses were a journey in themselves: exciting, diverse, creative and colorful. Thank you very much for the unforgettable evening. We'll be back - anytime. Here it doesn't matter how you are dressed or what your wallet has. Everyone is welcome, just as they are. I hope that Mr. Fribus never loses the fire in his eyes and the love for his work. Thanks again to the service team. We had a very nice evening, our waiter was very attentive and explained all the dishes well. I found that some dishes lacked a certain amount of depth. My wife had the non-alcoholic accompaniment, but towards the end it was too much sweet on sweet for her. (drink + food) I think it's a matter of taste, I thought the wine selection and the sake were great. I hope the KIKU team can find the last nuances that are missing, we're excited to see whether we'll be able to win a star next year.

Mh. We are not newbies... This is our 5th visit. 4 times everything was great. Unfortunately not today . We waited about 20 minutes for our champagne, a bit long for five occupied tables with a total of 16 people in the restaurant. There were only two portions of beef tartare this evening. That's why I chose dumplings with meat. Also out. Unfortunately, these were almost all the alternatives as “non-fish eaters”. Starters were over for me. That at 1945 p.m. You could tell that the service was slightly overwhelmed, some of the few tables wanted something. Something wasn't going quite right. Main course roast beef was a disgrace. On our last visits we ordered the same food and got more. What we got today was really cool, not even half as much as when we visited in June and August last year. See pictures . Since the service felt overwhelmed, unfortunately no one came to ask us if we were satisfied. We felt really cheated. The waitress argued with increased taxes and errors in the kitchen. We paid €160 for two starters, two glasses of wine, two glasses of champagne and two main courses. A lot, we're happy to pay that, but then the service and cuisine also have to be right. This was not the case today. When I showed my photos from last year, the service was overwhelmed and offered us a schnapps. We said no. We were just disappointed because we were otherwise happy in this restaurant. But today we felt ripped off. A pity

It said “Fusion Cuisine” on the internet. In the end it was a very Asian evening with a distinctly Japanese influence (at least to my knowledge). I have to admit, not my kitchen! Nevertheless, this was a very interesting evening with many new impressions. Very good product quality and top preparations. Plus a friendly, competent service lady. Do you like Asian cuisine? Lets go! The pricing is also sensational and the restaurant is really nice. Only the wine list urgently needs to be expanded and the music in the background was difficult for my taste. Thank you!!

We stumbled upon this quaint restaurant by chance yesterday and were lucky enough to get a seat. It was busy. Our most positive memory was of the owner...a very nice and friendly man who immediately gave us recommendations for both drinks and food upon greeting. The food was delicious and plentiful. We highly recommend it.
