Great restaurant, a truly beautiful location, and a stunning view! This restaurant is a must-visit when in Freiburg! The food is delicious and varied! I've been here several times and always love coming back! Thanks also to the friendly staff!

This lovely terrace is a great place to watch the sun set over Freiburg with friends or loved ones. The service was super friendly, even for the dog ;-) Thank you so much!

Two of us – there were six of us – unfortunately ordered an appetizer. Unfortunately, because we then had to wait over two hours for the main course. The two chefs had given priority to another group of 17, so only that group was served initially. However, the friendly waitresses repeatedly comforted and reassured us. It was still frustrating, though. Only two people in the kitchen simply can't manage the workload. The food itself was well prepared. In my opinion, a bit more finesse would have been necessary for the rather expensive dishes. A few spices were missing or were used too timidly. But otherwise, everything was excellent and highly recommended. Especially the very attentive service and, of course, the restaurant's excellent location.

Unfortunately, 5 stars aren't enough 😀. I was very surprised by the delicious brunch and the very attentive staff. Thank you for the great time with you!

The restaurant is on the side of a mountain, and you take two elevators to get there—both built inside the mountain! You go through a rough cave to reach this beautiful and well-designed place. The view from the terrace is absolutely spectacular. We visited on a rainy day, so we could not enjoy the outdoor seating with the famous sunset view over the city center. But inside was just as beautiful: spacious, beautiful, very clean, quiet, and not crowded. We wanted a calm place, and we found exactly that. They even seated us by the window, so we could still see the last bit of sunset between the rain. The food was delicious and portions were huge: delicious salmon with pea purée and white wine sauce, tender filet with forest mushrooms, and a fresh homemade salad. Everything was cooked perfectly and looked beautiful. My partner said it was the best steak he ever had, and he has tried many! The service was also excellent: staff was friendly, polite, professional, and spoke English. The design inside is eye-catching but not distracting. White tablecloths, shiny silverware, and elegant dishes made it feel very classy. For such a fancy place and such a great experience, the prices are very fair. Truly a top place to visit!

Today is my first trip and visit to the Greiffenegg-Schlössle, and I'm thrilled! Whether you live in Freiburg im Breisgau and the surrounding area or are a tourist in town, it's a true hotspot! What a view from the terrace, letting your gaze wander far over Freiburg and the neighboring Black Forest. The Greiffenegg-Schlössle is enchantingly beautiful and is perfect for anything from a coffee break to an unforgettable wedding celebration. The ambiance is fantastic, and the path to the restaurant on the Schlossberg is also beautiful. One of my highlights: the "tunnels" hewn into the rock. They are illuminated, and the path to the elevators leads up. Tip: Right next to the Greiffenegg-Schlössle is the chestnut beer garden, one of the most beautiful in Germany and also offers an unforgettable view.

Amazing location/view, kid unfriendly, service highly disappointing, food okay. We used to come here frequently since 2020, up until last year we really enjoyed our visits (always dinner). We’ve reserved a table ahead of time letting them know that there would be two little kids, and they wanted to give us a non-shaded table (very hot day, first people to make it there for dinner) since they haven’t been fully booked we were able to change to a too small table in the shade, high chairs only on request - disappointing. The food menu got reduced to one page only, while wine takes up several pages (great wine selection though). There was no 4 course meal offered, like we were used to. Those were always phenomenal. Now they serve fries with some of there main courses, it doesn’t feel like a fine dine anymore. Staff was more than disappointing, no eye for the detail, has no clue about the menu, even though there is not much food to remember (one page food menu), there wasn’t any presenting of the wine/wine tasting for approval, had to ask for utensils, service was feeling like at the brewery, not a fine dine restaurant. Not worth the money anymore.

The music on the terrace was inappropriate. The view is beautiful. The food was excellent, even if the menu wasn't particularly summery. The staff was very friendly, but unfortunately a bit inexperienced. We were still having an aperitif when the starter was brought, and if we hadn't said anything, the main course would have arrived too. We only had wine because we asked. Reservations are recommended.

Absolutely top-notch experience across the board! The service was excellent — super friendly and clearly well-trained. Our server, Stefan, was especially great: attentive, kind, and professional. The food was delicious, and the portions were almost too generous for us to finish! We each had a starter and a main, then shared a dessert. Even the cappuccino and espresso at the end were really good. We sat outside with a direct view over Freiburg — just stunning (and yes we had a sun set). The restaurant is cozy without feeling cramped, so even when it’s full, the atmosphere stays relaxed and enjoyable above the city. Parking is easy in the nearby parking garage, just a 5-minute walk. Anyone visiting Freiburg should definitely stop by. They also have a lovely beer garden with smaller, local dishes — perfect for a more casual meal or smaller budget. Highly recommended!

It's a real shame that the elevator is no longer available for the beer garden. And that the BZ newspaper didn't write about the rioters. It was probably drunks who thought you should jump around in the older elevator while it was moving. It's a shame the old one had a Nixie tube display; I was always inspired by that. Perhaps install a Hikvision camera?

This restaurant clearly benefits from its location on the Schlossberg; the view over the rooftops of Freiburg is very beautiful. After making a reservation, our group of seven had a very nice table on the terrace. The food is very good (I had the daily special for €69), but not outstanding. The biggest highlight was the starter from the daily special. This was top-notch, even though they served tiger prawns instead of lobster: nice spiciness, great, rich flavors – highly recommended. In contrast, the main course (beef fillet with fries pavé) was merely mediocre. There's no question about it: the meat was very good, the side dishes were decent in taste, but very sparse. For dessert, the praline ice cream was excellent, but the chocolate mousse had been left to air out a bit too long. It tasted good, but the texture wasn't. If you come very hungry, you'll leave a little hungry, but not necessarily full. The service was attentive and friendly, and the wait times were within the usual range. The atmosphere is calm and informal.

A wonderful place with the most beautiful view in Freiburg!

We went to Greiffnegg Schlössle for brunch today. The two positive things: the beautiful weather and the beautiful view of Freiburg! The brunch was just miserable. Quality is poor and quantity is low. The white sausages were either cold or a little warm. Modest cheese and sausage selection. The warm dishes were bland (frozen vegetables warmed up) and partly inedible because they were very over-seasoned. Roast beef well done. Fish dry. Delivering food and juice took a very long time. All in all a huge disappointment. Definitely not recommended.

Très bel endroit sur les hauteurs. Ascension raide, mais un ascenseur est possible. Vue magnifique, cadre magnifique par beau temps sous les arbres. Vraiment un très bon moment, bière impeccable, nourriture pas fabuleuse mais on n'y vient pas pour ça.

We were here for brunch. The whole thing for €44 per person. P Unfortunately we were very disappointed. Starting with the very nice service staff, who unfortunately didn't provide good service. Our plates were not cleared and were literally piled up on our table. Even if you wanted something to drink, you had to go to the counter to order. About the food: The breakfast was great. However, lunch was not satisfactory. The “hand-scraped” spaetzle was not edible. The bread dumplings tasted like dry bread. Signs/plates/knives/forks were missing everywhere. The desserts, however, were again very satisfying. In summary, a very disappointing experience.

I am very disappointed. The breakfast was very tasty but the lunch was not as good, hardly any of the food was as it was on the menu and generally not as described.

The Greiffenegg-Schlössle shines with a very special glow at Christmas time! The festive lighting is simply enchanting and contributes so much to making Freiburg even more magical and special during this time of year. Great location with breathtaking views and a luxurious menu. Unfortunately, despite special dishes on the menu, there was hardly any choice of drinks and mediocre service - a bit disappointing for the price. Nevertheless, the visit is worth it, the view is really awesome!

Perfect for brunch for the whole family. Whether it's a birthday party or a small group, brunch is ideal. Super extensive breakfast buffet with a great transition to the main courses. Really great atmosphere and friendly staff. Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful afternoon with 16 people with a small wine tasting from top regional wineries in the region. There were also beautiful antipasti plates, also vegetarian ones .Thank you for your stay at the Schlössle.

We were in Greiffenegg for the very first time on Saturday and I have to say, the location is great! Condition was friendly and quick. Really nice atmosphere and we are already looking forward to a next visit

Great expectation, even greater disappointment. Although there were only a few guests present, the entire service was a disaster. Unfortunately the food wasn't a highlight either, Soup came lukewarm, main course was not very tasty, just expensive. We sat in front of the empty plates for 20 minutes, not caring whether we had another request, more important than the guests was setting up a buffet for the next day. The only bright spot is the fantastic terrace with the great view.

Der Kastaniengarten am Ende der Altstadt ist für uns ein touristischer Geheimtipp. Man erreicht ihn leicht mit dem Lift oder steil zu Fuss. Das Angebot ist selbstverständlich nicht riesig, aber für ein Mittagsvesper Weissurst mit Brezel und einem Glas süffigen Gutedel ist es allemal gut. Die schattige Atmosphäre unter den Bäumen ist toll. Die Preise sind etwas hoch.

Exclusive cuisine, perfect service and the ambience is sensational.

We were the only guests on the terrace, just before the approaching thunderstorm. The service was courteous and quick. The St. Peter's fish cooked to perfection and juicy with delicious side dishes. When it started to rain, a nice table for two was set up for us in the charming interior. Afterwards a delicious dessert from the menu. Rather high prices but worth the money. We'd love to come back.

Great restaurant with a wonderful ambience and great flair above the rooftops of Freiburg. We really enjoyed our visit. The food was really tasty and well prepared, we'll be back!

I recently celebrated a big birthday here. Beforehand, I had a pleasant on-site appointment with Mr. Berg during the renovation work. Ms. Kopfer helped us with further planning in a targeted and empathetic manner. The menu food was very good, we had wonderful wine and at the end the dessert as a buffet. Beforehand, I was worried that the renovation work might not be finished. But everything was wonderful, and considering that this place hasn't been open again for a long time, I'm really impressed with how good the service was too. The ambience is unbeatable anyway, there is enough space outside and inside. Everyone felt very comfortable. And when it comes to the bill, the price-performance ratio was also right. I can fully recommend the restaurant for events like this.

Visita por las vistas y la cerveza; no te decepcionará. Probablemente las mejores vistas en Friburgo. Sin embargo, la comida era abrumadora. Currywurst era demasiado dulce y carente de sabor las patatas fritas bastante empapadas. Ojalá hubiéramos llegado antes ya que los asientos con las mejores vistas van rápido.

Unfortunately the waitresses left us after the meal. Additional drinks were only served upon request. The food was okay but not worth the price. Ambience very nice.

It's just great that there is an elevator, which you can only get to via two extremely steep flights of stairs. Not inclusive at all! Very annoying, a shame and kind of stupid

Schöne Aussicht, bei gutem Wetter angenehm Wie schon in anderen Kommentaren erwähnt, schmecken bspw. der Gurken- und der Kartoffelsalat wie aus der Fertigpackung. Auch besteht wenig Flexibilität bezüglich der Gerichte, also andere Beilage, wenn man keine Pommes zu der Currywurst will etc. Das Putensteak an sich ist aber gut mariniert und zart gewesen, das Schnitzel hat eine knackige Kruste, das Pils überzeugt ebenfalls Allerdings nicht gerade billig 5,20 für eine 250ml Weinschorle und fast 17€ für das Putensteak mit großem Salat. Dafür Mittwoch als Studentenangebot 2 Pils für 1

Bei schönstem Sommerwetter sind wir aufgestiegen und der Ausblick hat sich gelohnt! Das Bier schmeckte lecker und der Aufenthalt war kurzweilig.

We were here with friends to have some beers and wine Since the weather was great we went up here to enjoy the stunning view. We had an excellent place in the beer garden and ate some very nice Flammenkuchen.

Sehr teuer, Portion klein! Aussicht toll, 2x Wurstsalat und Flammkuchen geschmacklich okay, Portion aber sehr klein und lieblos angerichtet. Wir hatten dazu drei Radler und bezahlten ca. 46 €.

Great views. Terrible Flammkuchen.... totally dry, not much topping, really bland. Drinks are fine, mostly bottled things. Prices in general a bit high.... you pay for the view.

Der Ausblick ist phänomenal und die Stimmung ist wunderschön, aber das ist auch das einzige Gute: das Essen ist wirklich unterirdisch und absolut überteuert. Also: ohne Hunger hingehen, ein ordentliches kaltes Bierchen bestellen und den Ausblick genießen!

Wie man vielen anderen Bewertungen schon entnehmen kann, überzeugt der Kastaniengarten weder durch herausragendes Essen noch durch besonders günstige Preise. Jedoch macht dies die überwältigende Aussicht wieder wett: Man hat einen super Blick über die gesamte Freiburger Innenstadt und das Münster, über dem man abends den Sonnenuntergang genießen kann. Immer wieder einen Ausflug wert!

If you don't want to walk uphill, take the elevator to Greiffennegg restaurant and you are almost there at the beer garden. If you are lucky, you will get a table by the fence and watch Freiburg from high. Beer or tonic water, flammenkuechen or sausages. Great spot for family! Public toilets too!

War leider sehr Teuer dafür, dass es sehr sehr wenig war und eigentlich nicht zufriedenstellend war. z.B. ein Normales Weissbier hat 5€ gekostet.Das einzigst gute war die Aussicht.

Après une longue marche à travers la ville et le parc, un bon litre de bière allemande bien fraiche était le bienvenu. La nourriture y est correcte, simple mais bonne, c'est ce à quoi on s'attend pour ce type d'endroit. On a pris des Schnitzel qui étaient bonnes et un bretzel avec du fromage fondu plutôt quelconque. Mais le must, c'est surtout l'ambiance conviviale et la belle vue à l'ombre des arbres. Les grandes tables sont propices à la conversations avec les voisins.

Wir spazierten von der Stadt hoch zum Kastaniengarten, tranken bei herrlichem Sonnenschein ein Radler und genossen die Auszeit vom Stadtrundgang mit tollem Blick auf die Altstadt. Aus unserer Sicht ein Spaziergang wert.

Außergewöhnliche Location über den Dächern der Stadt. Herrlicher Blick, Top Service

Der Erbauer hatte nur kurze Freude hier, er plante es als Ruhesitz im 19. Jahrhundert. Heute ist hier ein sehr gutes Restaurant/Café, der Sonntags-Brunch ist großartig, die Ausblicke auf Freiburg und aufs Münster ebenso. Beim Schwabentor führt die Schlossberg-Brücke zum Aufzug, ein zweiter Aufzug führt direkt ins Lokal. Viele Wanderwege erschließen von hier aus den Schloßberg.

Haben unsere Hochzeit hier gefeiert - eine sagenhafte Aussicht, leckeres Essen und nettes Personal. Unsere Gäste waren ausnahmslos sehr zufrieden.

Wir waren anlässlich unseres Jahrestages dort zum Brunchen. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und das Essen hat super geschmeckt. Für uns mal was anderes. Beim Frühstück hätten wir uns etwas mehr Auswahl gewünscht wie zum Beispiel Salami, Schinken, Weichkäse und eine kleine Gemüseauswahl. Aber mit dem was es gab waren wir sehr zufrieden! Hier nochmal ein großes Dankeschön an den Kellner Philipp für den super Service. Ich habe mir ein romantisches Frühstück gewünscht und er hat meine Erwartungen übertroffen! 😊

Buffet Auswahl war sehr enttäuschend, das Personal leider ungeschult. Der Hauptgang war klasse. Nachtisch gab es leider erst 15 Minuten vor Schluss, die Hälfte der Gäste war zu diesem Zeitpunkt bereits gegangen. Alles in allem, den Preis einfach nicht wert.

Der Brunch war, im Hinblick auf den Preis, sehr minderwertig. Die Bedingungen war offensichtlich ungelernt und sehr langsam. Das dazu gehörige Mittagessen war ok. Aussicht ist natürlich top.

Wunderschöne Aussicht auf Freiburg. Sehr schönes nostalgisches Ambiente in den Räumen. Wir waren im Spiegel Saal zum zum Frühstücks Brunch. An der Küche gibt es eigentlich nichts zu meckern alles war lecker zubereitet und angerichtet. Ein kleines Lob an den Koch. Leider hapert es am Service sehr. Es liegt sicherlich an der Personal Not was Fachkräfte anbetrifft. Die Mädels die uns bedient haben waren zwar nett und freundlich aber da gibt es noch einiges zu verbessern. Schade wir werden nicht wieder kommen da wir zu den Preisen etwas anderes erwarten.

Super essen und schöne Aussicht

Eines der tollsten Restaurants mit Biergarten in Freiburg. Direkt unterhalb des Schwabentores gelegen. Mit Blick auf die Stadt. Auch wer nicht gut zu Fuß ist kann mit dem hauseigenen Fahrstuhl auf den Berg gelangen. Gerade bei warmen Temperaturen, bekommt man hier eine kleine Abkühlung.

Wie immer hervorragend! Exzellente Küche, hervorragender aufmerksamer Service, immer zum Wohlfühlen! Der traumhafte Blick über Freiburg setzt dann noch das I-Tüpfelchen

Totale Begeisterung über das unglaublich gute Essen! Ich war bei einer Veranstaltung eingeladen und habe damit nicht gerechnet! Allein die Darbietung auf dem Teller war schon ein Augenschmaus!

Zum Positiven: Sehr schönes Fleckchen mit genialer Aussicht Zum Negativen: Unfreundliche Personal, Selbstbedienung und (überteuertes) Essen unter Kantinenniveau.

A pleasant surprise... just out of the old town, slightly up the hill (don't worry, there's an elevator to bring you - and your "food baby" - down) with a splendid view in case you have a table at the window. The relaxed atmosphere (no large crowds here) and very friendly staff will make you immediately feel at ease. But the very best... is the food. Delicious! Definitely recommended!

Ich verstehe die ganzen vorigen Bewertungen nicht. Die einen beschweren sich wegen Maskenpflicht wie überall in Deutschland, andere Beschweren sich wegen fehlenden Coronaregeln - macht Corona eigentlich blöd???. Wir mussten uns am Eingang registrieren, Masken tragen wie überall zu der Zeit in Deutschland, also was soll das Gelaber? Es ist nicht ganz billig, aber der schattige Platz unter Bäumen mit der Aussicht ist genial

Der Brunch war gut und die Aussicht auf der Terrasse sehr schön. Der Service war ok, wir haben uns aber teilweise vergessen gefühlt. Enttäuschend fanden wir die Getränkepreise. 10€ für ein Glas normalen Wein finden wir etwas übertrieben. Das Essen war aber sehr lecker.

Habe bereits 10 Tage vor unserem Besuch reserviert auf 18 Uhr. Also sehr früh, damit der Tisch ggfs. 2 mal belegt werden kann. Es waren dann bei unserer Ankunft auch alle, bis auf einen Tisch, frei. Uns wurde dann ein Tisch in der prallen Sonne bei über 30 Grad zugewiesen. Uns ist das Wasser herunter gelaufen. Der Kellner hatte kein Erbarmen. Gegen 19 Uhr kamen zwei Ehepaare, die sich weigerten sich auch in der Sonne plazieren zu lassen. Sie bekamen tatsächlich einen der schattigen Tische, die alle nicht belegt waren , daraufhin zugewiesen. Das Essen war sehr gut , aber über die Gastfreundschaft kann man sehr geteilter Meinung sein. Wir werden es in keiner guten Erinnerung behalten.

Brunchi brunch, super sache auf diesem kleinen hausberg, der sowohl sportlich elegant zu fuss als auch sportlich lässig per personenlift ereichbar ist!preis leistung in meinen augen top, bierchen muss man zwar zusätzlich berappen aber vertrettbar!bedienung aufmerksam und auch unter der maske (wegen corona...) freundlich lächelnd!erstmalig dort gewesen, wiederholung garantiert!

Es kann doch nicht wahr sein dass man eine Maske im Biergarten aufsetzen muss um etwas zu bestellen !!! Das ist doch sowas von affig !!! Dann kommt dieser rüde Ton dazu wenn man sich nicht korrekt verhält mit irgendwelchen total überflüssigen Regeln. Es verdirbt dir die Stimmung und du hast keine Lust mehr dich hier im an und für sich schönen Castaniengarten aufzuhalten ':-/
