Jhring's Wirtshaus in Gießen

Es schien, als hätte die Bedienung einen schlechten Tag gehabt und ihren Frust an uns ausgelassen...

Mein Kollege und ich kamen gestern Abend in das Lokal und sagten freundlich, dass wir keine Reservierung haben und fragten, ob sie dennoch einen Platz für uns haben. Daraufhin stürmte ein Herr aus der Küche dazu (ich nehme an der Inhaber) und brüllte, dass es ihm egal ist ob wir reserviert haben, niemand hätte reserviert und wir sollen eben warten. Er ergänzte noch, dass er kein Personal hat. Eine insgesamt absolut unpassende und unfassbare Reaktion, zumal man bedenken muss, dass das unsere Begrüßung war😄. Ich bin immernoch sprachlos und wir werden dieses Lokal nie wieder betreten. Wir sind selbstverständlich sofort wieder gegangen.

Während meines Deutschlandaufenthalts hatte ich ein fantastisches Abendessen im Wirtshaus von Jhring. Das Essen war herzhaft, reichhaltig und genau das, was man sich von einem traditionellen deutschen Wirtshaus wünscht. Das Schnitzel war außen perfekt knusprig und innen zart, mit einer cremigen Soße, geschmolzenem Käse und Speck überbacken – ein wahrer Genuss. Die Bratkartoffeln waren wunderbar gewürzt und passten hervorragend zum Gericht. Der Burger war ebenso beeindruckend – saftig, geschmackvoll und reichlich belegt, was ihm eine perfekte Balance aus Knusprigkeit, Frische und Geschmack verlieh. Neben dem Essen war die Atmosphäre warm, lebhaft und authentisch deutsch – ein wunderbarer Ort zum Entspannen nach einem langen Reise- oder Drehtag. Freundlicher Service und herzhafte regionale Gerichte sorgten für einen unvergesslichen Abend. Wenn Sie Gießen besuchen und klassische deutsche Hausmannskost in gemütlicher Atmosphäre suchen, ist das Wirtshaus von Jhring definitiv einen Besuch wert.

Das Essen war super lecker und authentisch deutsch. Die Bedienung war allerdings etwas unfreundlich und wir mussten über 50 Minuten auf unser Essen warten – ohne Vorwarnung.

Das Essen war okay, nichts Besonderes. Die Qualität des Brotes und der Hamburgerbrötchen sollte verbessert werden. Das Personal war durchwachsen. Die kleine Kellnerin mit Brille war unhöflich. Die Atmosphäre war in Ordnung, eine Mischung aus Kneipe und altem Restaurant.

Hi, Ich war vor kurzem mit einer Freundin hier zum Essen. Wie schon zu früheren Zeiten ist das Essen immer noch sehr lecker und schön zusammengestellt. Wir kamen zum Schnitzel essen hier und wurden nicht enttäuscht. Naja es hätte gerne dicker sein können, das muss man doch sagen. Aber geschmacklich sehr gut. Auch die Beilagen waren lecker, wie auf den Fotos zu sehen Bratkartoffeln. Bei meiner Begleitung war wohl bisschen viel Salz dran. Die Salate waren richtig gut, sehr lecker. Zum Nachtisch gab es noch Apfelstrudel mit Eis und hier war alles perfekt. Das Personal war sehr freundlich mit einer direkten Art das man sich richtig wohl fühlt. Auch für nette Gespräche war kurz Zeit. Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder, das steht schon auf der To-Do Liste. Gruß Lars

Massive Portion für faires Geld. Entspannte Atmosphäre, hälfte der Tische war am Knobeln oder Karten spielen. Sehr zu empfehlen.

Ambiente top, urig. Essen ist Durchschnitt nicht herausragend aber auch nicht schlecht. Leider nur eine Bedienun g für den ganzen Bereich daher Service nicht optimal.

Wir waren hier am 21.03.26 essen. Von außen wirkt das Restaurant sehr unscheinbar, drinnen wird man aber mit einem urigen und doch modernen Ambiente überrascht. Wir wurden schnell und überaus freundlich bedient, noch dazu erfrischend persönlich und herzlich. Zum wichtigsten Part, dem Essen. Wir hatten beide unterschiedliche Schnitzel und sie waren perfekt. Das Schnitzel mit Handkäse war eine tolle Abwechslung, perfekt in der Größe. Insgesamt eine leckere große Portion zu einem fairen Preis. Bonus: Frisch gezapftes Bier aus einem eisgekühltem Krug 🥳

Eine sehr coole Location in Gießen. Zu essen gibt’s typische deutsche Küche, aber auch Veganer kommen auf ihre Kosten. Ich hatte den Jhring‘s Salatteller, super groß die Portion und sehr lecker 😋😋😋 Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend.

Wir waren im Dezember 2025 bei Jhrings Wirtshaus essen und total begeistert. Das Restaurant hat eine total urige und besondere Atmosphäre und man wurde direkt sehr freundlich empfangen. Salat und Schnitzel fanden wir unfassbar lecker. Sogar unser Hund durfte mit und wir kommen sehr gerne wieder. Auf der Karte ist für jeden Geschmack was dabei.

Richtig leckeres Essen und große Portion zum fairen Preis! Komme mit Sicherheit nochmal vorbei! 😊

Sehr uriges und gemütliches Ambiente. Die Schnitzel sind wie immer super lecker. Besonders positiv aufgefallen ist, dass sich das Personal im Vergleich zum letzten Besuch vor einem Jahr deutlich verbessert hat – einige sind spürbar freundlicher und aufmerksamer geworden. Insgesamt ein sehr angenehmer Besuch.

Quaint and good! Interesting menu, nice drink ideas, food was delicious, and value for money was decent. Deductions for the dismantled wooden floor without any safety guards and the inconsistent service (young man: good, a female waitress: top-notch, another: mediocre). Perhaps that's subjective, but that's what reviews are all about.

Jhring's Wirtshaus impresses across the board. The kitchen serves truly delicious dishes, while the attentive service and pleasant atmosphere make a visit a true experience. A special highlight is the cozy and quiet beer garden, tucked away behind the building, which invites you to linger. Highly recommended!

Always happy, great food, great service

As guests at a private party in the private room, we had a pre-selected menu. The food was delicious. The service is just right. Perhaps a little too "robust" for those with sensitive stomachs. I liked it. My 20-year-old child, however, didn't. All in all, we were well looked after. Everything was quick, from the food to the drinks. Thank you very much! I'd love to come back again to try the delicious burgers that were advertised to me.

I tried the wild burger (local product) - super tasty! There is also a lot of local cheese, hand cheeses of various musical styles, and good beer. I'm thrilled, gladly again. Quite successful restaurant, therefore a lot to do, which is why you may have to wait longer for your food. This was announced and wasn't a problem for me, it was worth it. Service is super friendly.

Food was delicious, prices were absolutely reasonable, service was very nice, unfortunately a bit slow, but it was also quite full. The highlight was the table next door with a band that had a Christmas party and was just arguing. Top entertainment factor!

Good food, BUT the female waiter (Elli) with the glasses was very provocative. She brought us 4 rounds of beer even though we only ordered one. We all had to pay because, according to them, we “provoked” them. I have rarely experienced such bad service...

Very great, rustic pub with a lot of charm invites you to linger, drink and eat. My wife recommended the restaurant, so we went straight with her parents, who like a well-kept pub atmosphere. There is a table where you can order a keg of beer and it is connected to the table's own tap system. Great and pretty funny. The service was perfect. The schnitzels and burgers too. The homemade side salad deserves special mention. Unfortunately, the vegan schnitzels were anything but homemade, but rather à la “Rügenwalder” or “Beyond Meat”. Therefore unfortunately 1 star deducted. Tip: swap the cheeseburger patty with the grilled vegetables from the vegan burger! However, the fried potatoes served were very good. All in all, a really great restaurant! We'll definitely be back.

The food was good. The service was ok, but a bit moody.

Ox cheeks on mashed potatoes with savoy cabbage. Phenomenal, super tender meat, delicious brown sauce, spicy savoy cabbage. Bravo. Large portion that unfortunately doesn't fit any more Kaiserschmarrn. The Tyrolean schnitzel with fried potatoes and salad was beautifully presented, will try that next time. Rustic furnishings, just how I like it. The waitresses were friendly, courteous and always looked after everything. All in all a very good location.

The beer is fine! The prices for the food were quite expensive, considering that neither the portion size nor the taste experience justified the price...if the waitress shouts at a guest, that's not possible...unfortunately, it will be my last visit be. It's a shame, it definitely has potential...maybe I just had a bad day...

The shop is great for drinking beer and spending the evening. Veggie food is only available for an additional charge. Unfortunately, it just went from the freezer into the deep fryer and is still more expensive than meat. Not quite in time. A lot of money for little quality, a shame.

People don't go there, it's pretty rancid but all of the 16 are worth it, they don't know any tricks. You get everything it's worth but everything is disgusting. Moldy toilets are clogged. Service is service is disgustingly unfriendly but they sell everything kisses

Delicious beer, nice atmosphere. Unfortunately, a statement from the waiter was inappropriate. Unfortunately, when I asked which dishes could be recommended as vegetarian, the only answer was salad. Then we asked if there would be something filling and the answer was: "yes with meat". Then we found the No Wiener on the menu and ordered it. This cost almost €6 more than the normal schnitzel. It is incomprehensible how one can calculate such prices. It is assumed that the meat is of good quality and should therefore cost at least as much as the vegetarian one. 25€ for a vegetarian schnitzel is hard...

There is delicious beer (Licher Kellerbier on tap) and cider from the Bembel. Nice atmosphere in the basement. The food (ox cheeks) was very tasty and more than plentiful, as was the bratwurst. Our companion's schnitzel was large, but extremely thin, with a lot of breading. Too bad.

A shadow of himself... Unfortunately, after the change of ownership, the quality of the food steadily declined and the prices rose abnormally. You can clearly see the austerity policy of the new owner. It's a shame that only profit counts here. The guys in the kitchen are still the same as they were 15 years ago, that's definitely not the reason. Here they simply save on good ingredients and use ready-made sauces as a basis and then asking 19 euros for a schnitzel is just cheeky. After almost 20 years, Ihrings has lost me. Klaus, we miss you and the old and real Ihrings.

The ambience is rustic and cozy, exactly my thing. I was at Ihrings with a group of 8 people, everyone was very happy with the dishes. Me too, the veal bratwurst with fried potatoes and braised onions was very good, and the beer in the ice mug was also great. The service was very attentive, nice and personable. But one thing didn't work at all: Since I was the last to arrive and everyone already had their beer on the table, I was asked directly by the boss when I had not even been sitting at the table for a minute what I would like to drink, so far so good. I asked what types of beer were available on tap and was answered in an unfriendly voice: It's on the menu! Dear boss, if you don't feel like advising your guests or a simple answer is too much, Then please go to the kitchen to work and leave the service to your nice young ladies ✌️I often work in the catering industry, I know a little bit about what I'm talking about.

Mega schnitzel and fast service

Very nice, very quaint. There was a lot going on on Friday evening. Depending on the time of evening, it's more of a pub than a restaurant, although the food also makes a very good impression (didn't try it myself, just looked away 😄). Great, lively pub atmosphere.

If you like rustic things, Ihrings is the perfect place for you. The food is great and you'll be full. The waitresses are very friendly. But everyone has to have their own experiences. My suggestion: go and test it yourself!

Very cozy restaurant with very tasty food. Had Tyrolean schnitzel with cheese gratin and fried potatoes. Wonderful, tasty and very tasty. Plus a delicious Benedictine wheat beer. The atmosphere is very cozy and stands out clearly from other restaurants in Giessen. Priced in the middle range which is usual. It is an inn owned by the Licher Brewery and leaves nothing to be desired. Service, ambience and food were very, very good. I can only recommend it. Until next time, Hans - Jürgen Wolowski.

Were not served and turned away for no reason.

I ended up here by chance for a training course and was very excited. Super tasty beer in a chilled mug. That was really great at these temperatures. And also very tasty schnitzel eaten with a great salad plate. So absolutely recommended. If I'm in the area again, I'd love to stop by. :-)

We spontaneously visited Jhring's today after our original destination was closed on Monday - and it was a stroke of luck! The food was absolutely outstanding: generous portions, great taste and top quality. The service was also very nice and we felt very comfortable. We'd love to come back! ☺️

Absolute delight, brilliant food, nice service and great ambience. I had the Bellschuh my wife had the schnitzel. All I can say is awesome. I'm already looking forward to the next visit.

Ate there for the first time yesterday and it was amazing. Large portions and very high quality! Very nice atmosphere. Chilled stone mugs for the cellar beer. Very nice and quick-witted staff and the guys in the kitchen love what they do, you can see that in the dishes. It wasn't the last time I was there!

I've known Ihring's for several years and have always been satisfied. It's a pub, that's what the owner calls it, so I don't expect anything fancy. This evening the eight of us met for dinner and some drinks after work to round off the week. There were small stands on the tables that presented a small menu of asparagus. Two of us actually fancied asparagus - once in a pasta dish, once on schnitzel. The waitress then visibly bent over backwards when she explained that asparagus dishes were not served at large tables?! We raised the objection that if the two asparagus friends sat down at a smaller table, would they get the asparagus dish? The service person then swam even more and had to go and ask. The answer offered was: The pasta dish works, the schnitzel doesn't. The explanation was obviously incomprehensible, not to say unbelievable... It was also obvious: If you don't have enough asparagus for everyone, take away the day tickets and only offer the sticky vegetables verbally at the tables while they are still available, otherwise leave it alone. It can happen that ingredients run out, but you can't make fun of your guests.

Super tasty Wiener Schnitzel with cranberries, exactly how it should be. Plus one of the tastiest beers I know and a wonderfully cozy, rustic atmosphere. One of the waitresses was a bit rude, but I'm used to that from Rhinelanders 🤓 5 stars, anytime again! Definitely worth a visit if you're in Giessen!

These people are rude and rasistic. Not customer friendly at all. I went with my colleagues for some beer and the waitress heard that we were speaking english. From that point on she started mentioning that we are IN GERMANY. And not as a Joke.

Clocky, rustic restaurant whose charm you don't even notice from the outside. The food is good, it is very comfortably furnished, the service was rather unfriendly and rude and would have liked to have been able to show up at the table more often and ask for more drinks. I will still come back as overall it was nice.

I returned here with good memories, but unfortunately left with bad ones. Service is a disaster at times; The waitress doesn't write things down, which makes ordering complicated, then comes back to ask again (could have easily been avoided). We perceived the boss (?) as quite rude - also towards the service team. Waiting times for drinks vary between 5 and 20 minutes, which suggests a lack of system. The burgers were okay, but small. Will probably stop somewhere else next time.

The ambience is very authentic. I ordered a vegan burger, it tasted very good. The staff are friendly. Location wise it is great as it is in the centre of the city.

Das Ambiente dieser location ist sehr urig aber auch sehr stimmig, man verbringt dort gerne den ein oder anderen Abend. Das Essen schmeckt sehr gut wobei beim letzten Mal meine Portion etwas zu klein geraten ist. Die Bedienungen sind sehr zuvorkommend. Ich kann dieses Lokal nur empfehlen.

Wir waren im Jhrings Schnitzel essen. Ich muss sagen die Atmosphäre ist ganz urig und nett gemacht. Es war nur ein bisl laut🙈 Das Essen war super, nehmt einen Vorspeisensalat, der ist wirklich der Hammer. Da hätte ich mich reinsetzen können. Die Serviekraft war leicht überfordert aber super nett👍

Sehr gemütliche Atmosphäre. Der Service ist schnell und aufmerksam. Es gibt eine tolle regionale Bierauswahl und das Essen ist ausgezeichnet. Die Portionen sind wirklich groß und deftig.
