Great atmosphere, an extensive menu and truly exceptionally friendly staff.

The restaurant was busy, usually a sign of quality. Far from it. The salad was good, fresh, and tasty. The prices for half a chicken at €28 and Spätzle at a similar price point are indicative of Munich Oktoberfest prices. The Jägerschnitzel (hunter's schnitzel) for €13.90 was rather small. That alone wouldn't be a problem, as long as the quality was good. I've never eaten a schnitzel anywhere that was so gristly (seamy). Therefore, it's inferior quality and shouldn't even be called a pork schnitzel. I can make much better fries and sauce at home. Three hours later, we both had a "resounding success!!" An absolute outrage. Justus: No thanks / The prices of most dishes are inversely proportional to the quality

Everything was perfect. The email communication during the reservation process was quick and friendly. The welcome and service throughout the evening were incredibly warm. The food was fantastic. The Christmas decorations were beautiful. We actually live in the South of France and were so grateful for this top-notch pre-Christmas feast!

It was very good twice, but once I didn't enjoy it as much, hence the one-star deduction. Overall, though, it's a good and nice restaurant. Prices are a bit on the higher side.

Wow, what an atmosphere! Super rustic and top-notch service, very well organized. The food was absolutely delicious. It was exactly to my taste, I would definitely come back. We even got a free drink – a little medlar or whatever it's called, I've already forgotten. 😅

Very tasty, albeit a bit pricey, but absolutely delicious. I had the spare ribs. The garlic sauce could have used a bit more garlic, but that's really nitpicking. The service was very friendly and welcoming. As someone from Giessen, this was my first time here, and certainly not my last!

The atmosphere was fantastic – 10 out of 10. The food, as you can see in the photo, was delicious, but unfortunately not quite worth the price, hence only 6 out of 10. The staff was very friendly; the only slight drawback was that we were forgotten when it came to paying – so 9 out of 10. Overall verdict: (10 + 6 + 9) ÷ 3 = 8.3 out of 10 A lovely evening with delicious food and great service, but the value for money could be a bit better.

This authentic restaurant serving regional cuisine, built 177 years ago, captivates with its unique ambience. It's as if you've stepped into a chemistry lab, library, lecture hall, and Justus von Liebig's office. The Justus Schäufele is a generous portion of pork shoulder, salad, and potato dumplings. I'll remember the taste and fillingness of this dish for a long time. I highly recommend it!

I love going to Justus! I first discovered Justus when I lived here on Alicenstraße. Now I come here regularly. All the staff are incredibly friendly. The chicken I just had was absolutely delicious. It's a Hessian restaurant with Hessian specialties. And the menu changes seasonally. Since I enjoy beer, this place is perfect. They have six different beers on tap. Delicious, which I especially appreciate. They have contracts with local farmers and buy their meat from them. Organic, organic, organic! Of course, you pay a bit more, but I get something really good for it. It's wonderful that you exist. I love coming here.

The food was excellent; I haven't had spare ribs as good as this one in a long time. I was initially put off by the high prices, but the food was very convincing. The service was extremely friendly, and we generally felt very comfortable. The decor is rustic with lots of wood—that's subjective, of course, but we really enjoyed it. Definitely worth a visit, and we'll definitely be back.

Good food in a lovely, rustic atmosphere

Saturday, 1 p.m., family lunch for my daughter's birthday, six people. Great location. The food was fantastic, hearty and high-quality. The portions were filling, don't worry. Reasonable prices. We've eaten well before, but rarely have we had such a friendly and attentive waitress at our table.

If you want good food, I highly recommend it. Ribs with potatoes are very good.

Solid Hessian cuisine at a reasonable price. Not a cheap country inn, but rather a bit pricey, but with large and tasty portions. The Frankfurt schnitzel with green sauce was definitely worth the price.

The German food is absolutely fantastic, regional, organic, and the menu changes every session! The service is exclusively professional and incredibly friendly! Even with a dog, you're welcome, and even after four weeks, the staff know which schnapps you like best and which appetizer to always order! The location is also absolutely cozy and decorated with heart and attention to detail! I've rarely eaten so well or felt so comfortable in Giessen and the surrounding area 🥰 I've recommended it many times, and I've always received absolutely positive feedback about the friendly atmosphere and the excellent food! Even after moving, I regularly drive over 40 km to come here! Best regards

We ate delicious hand cheese and drank Sauergespritzten (sour spritzer). The afternoon menu was available from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Very good service.

Delicious food and a friendly atmosphere. The service was also friendly and brusque, with a typical Hessian touch. However, everything took an extremely long time, and we rarely saw a server. From the time our food was ready to the time we paid, we waited half an hour – despite the restaurant being relatively quiet. We also had to wait three-quarters of an hour for the food. Definitely worth a visit – but you'll need plenty of time!

The service was unfortunately not that good, we had to remind the server for the water glasses, then the food came but a salad was forgotten, I unfortunately had to ask for a beer twice before I got one and when we wanted to see the menu to look for desserts, we had to remind the server again even though the menus were only a few steps away.

The food was delicious and enjoyable. The seven different types of draft beer were an extra treat. We had an all-around great evening with very friendly and quick service. I highly recommend it.

Lunch is quite affordable. The other dishes are a bit more expensive, but very, very good and the portions are large.

This is one of the most popular restaurants and beer gardens in Gießen. The food is amazing, and the outdoor garden is a beautiful place to relax. The service is excellent. I really enjoyed the salmon — it was delicious — and the drinks were great too.

Despite the city center location, the courtyard is a great place to sit, almost like a beer garden :-) The service is warm and attentive. Children are welcome; children's meals (including vegan options) are available; and art supplies are provided. We would eat there again as a family, especially in the summer because of the outdoor seating. Highly recommended.

A childish pub in Giessen—but nobody understands me... The staff is often unsure. This has happened to me a few times.

Now it's time again to sit outside, drink a beer, and enjoy a bite to eat. This is a perfect place to do so, or at least to enjoy a beer and a light snack. Sitting outside has the charm of a backyard when it's light, but at dusk and darkness, it feels truly cozy. The Hessian specialties are delicious, and the service is excellent.

This restaurant is definitely worth a visit. The food is high quality and tasty, the portions are well prepared and filling. The menu has understandable information for allergy sufferers and a large selection of dishes. The service is very friendly and caring. We felt well looked after and will definitely come back. The atmosphere is very special and you are taken into history.

Very nice restaurant, service was super nice, I would have been happy with some salt, I couldn't find any, just sugar, prices a little higher than usual, but we made a conscious decision to do so.

We will definitely come here again. Super friendly and flexible service, very good home-style cuisine and absolutely acceptable price-performance ratio. A small soup as a greeting from the kitchen... made us want more and we weren't disappointed.

We'll definitely be back! We went to Justus in the Hessischer Hof for the first time on Saturday – completely spontaneously and without a reservation. The restaurant was completely full, but we still received a very warm welcome and were offered a seat at the counter. The decision to stay was spot on: the cheese spaetzle was to die for, and the roast beef was tender, juicy and simply delicious! Plus service that is second to none – attentive, friendly and with genuine warmth. We felt comfortable from the start. You can feel that people cook and work here with passion. Absolute recommendation – we will definitely come back!

Justus Liebig is present throughout the restaurant. New items catch our eye with every visit. The friendly and helpful staff even explained the functions of the appliances. Now for the most important part 😂. The food. Super delicious. I had a schnitzel with mushroom cream sauce (hunter's schnitzel). It was super filling, and I still had some left the next day. The vegetarian dish and spare ribs are also very good. I think everything else on the menu is too 😜. A definite recommendation. When I'm back in Giessen, I'll definitely visit Justus again 😍

The atmosphere is quaint and cozy and the waitresses were friendly and on the ball. However, it is quite loud here and so it is difficult to hear others at the table - especially when the place is full. I was still looking forward to the meal and was disappointed. The only thing that was impressive about my dish was the size. My walnut dumplings were just boring and not well made. They were soggy on the inside and carelessly breaded with walnut crumbs on the outside. Sophisticated vegetarian dishes require a certain amount of sophistication and experience when preparing them. I missed them here. It was more of a cafeteria/canteen level. There was also a run-of-the-mill pumpkin puree and a huge run-of-the-mill side salad that covered 2/3 of the large plate. The dressing was again meaningless. And if I want salad, I order salad. All of this cost around €20. So far too much. I have no problem paying a little more for regional cuisine, but then it has to be tasty. I wanted to console myself with a hot cocoa with cream at the end of the evening - but that wasn't recommended either. The cocoa was completely light and therefore didn't taste chocolatey, but rather like watery milk. Unfortunately that was nothing. Even though I found the ambience nice, I won't come back because I want to eat delicious food. Maybe this is just a shop for savory meat dishes.

Sensational! Without a doubt one of the best restaurants in Giessen. Very good German cuisine, with emphasis on regionality.

Unfortunately, because of the room acoustics, it was a bit too loud for my hyperacusis. Or all the guests just screamed. 🤷‍♂️ But food and service were excellent.

Great as a meat eater! For vegetarians: I was a little disappointed with the walnut dumplings. There were 2 dumplings on the plate and the rest of the plate was full of a simple salad... unfortunately the price is far too high for that. The pumpkin bruschetta was tasty but again at €11 for 3 small slices it was too expensive and not suitable for sharing.

Way too expensive for the food. We had roulades and stuffed peppers and it wasn't enough, even for those who don't eat as much. Not really great in terms of taste, even if it was ok. At least for the value for money, not enough food for the price. But the service was very friendly, even in response to the criticism that was raised.

It's not cheap, but the food is worth every penny. We had four different dishes and each one was incredibly saucy. And you have a great time in a great atmosphere with super friendly service. We had a great evening and will definitely be back!
