JA AN Restaurant - Poppenbüttel in Hamburg

Our group has eaten at JaAn Poppenbüttel several times, but the service and food have deteriorated. You shouldn't waste your money here. Everything is terrible.

Amazing food! The location was too bright and the wait staff were too few! We waited 20 minutes for drinks.

There were two of us at JA AN Poppenbüttel for the first time. The evening remained very memorable for us, but unfortunately in a bad way. Atmosphere: The interior is very tasteful and pleasant at first glance. Upon closer inspection, you can see that the first impression is deceptive. The leather upholstery of the chairs was damaged, the wall decorations were covered in dust, and the acoustics were very unpleasant. Furthermore, the chopsticks were disposable and came in the red paper sleeve (typical for delivery services). The soy sauce came in an unlabeled plastic bottle. Service: The waitress constantly forgot about us. We had to get our menus ourselves, the drinks arrived after an hour, and the appetizers after 80 minutes. In that time, guests who arrived after us had already received their main courses. Food: The sushi is OK, but not for the price. In total, the two of us spent over €120 – it really wasn't worth it.

First of all, we were really very satisfied with the food and have absolutely little to complain about. But now comes the big BUT: at 9:40 p.m., we were simply presented with the bill, and all the chairs around us were pushed upright. -> official closing time 10:30 p.m. We still had a full bottle of water, and our wine was still half full. The same procedure was followed with the two other tables around us. Being pressured like that to leave the place so you can finally call it a night is really rude and has nothing to do with feeling good. Based on the food, we would have gladly returned, but the service completely ruined it.

Delicious food at reasonable prices. The service was very polite, but one of the waiters (a young employee) was clearly overwhelmed with taking orders. Nevertheless, it was a pleasant, long evening for the five of us. We had four starters, five main courses, and plenty of drinks, and paid a total of €210, or about €40 per person.

We discovered this restaurant through Google Maps. Because of the great weather, we decided to take advantage of the outdoor seating. The menu is relatively large and varied. We opted for a few appetizers. They were all very tasty, though they could have been a bit larger. The service was good; we were served quickly, and the food didn't take long to arrive.

I ordered food. The food was delivered promptly. I had already paid via PayPal, but the delivery man tried to explain that I still had to pay (the receipt said I had already paid). When he realized his mistake, he tried to tell me that I had ordered too late and that the cash register had already closed, and that it wouldn't work that way. Unfortunately, he was extremely rude. The food was good, but much too expensive for the portion.

The €20 meal I ordered for pickup was so small it didn't even fill a plate. Three tiny pieces of chicken. Poor value for money. Nothing was ready by the scheduled pickup time.

The taste of the food itself was ok, but the salad which came with the main food was not properly washed, and when I ate it, there was sand everywhere. It was not good. Pity....and also the noodles were too soft. The fried rice was very tasty. Everything seemed a bit overpriced. It's kinda pricy for lunch (even just for the main and drinks). The service was good, the setting was good.

Rarely have you seen such beautifully prepared dishes as we do here. The quality and taste are also good. The price here is also okay. If it's full you'll have to wait a little longer, but it's worth it.

The ambience is really very nice and the large room, with plenty of distance from the next tables, is very pleasant and very conducive to a feeling of well-being and privacy. My bowl of fresh salmon was full of good quality and fresh ingredients, excellently flavored and very filling. As a starter I had the classic miso soup with tofu and was pleasantly surprised at how deliciously seasoned it was. It was our first time there and we will definitely come back. I can recommend the JA AN restaurant without reservation.

I'm really disappointed. Eating mediocre...and why are the sauces so thin and served in a huge bowl, like soup...? Service was subpar this Saturday evening; it felt like it took 25 minutes for someone to take our order. Then the food came, even after an eternity, before the drinks... In response to previous inquiries, reference was made to the colleague in service..."yes, he does that..." Wear and tear has already set in in men's toilets. One faucet broken, one just about to...the furnishings have already suffered here.... I ordered the flying noodles because I really expected something from them. In terms of taste, they are neutral jum jum noodles that are placed on the plate in a bamboo basket on two chopsticks and a fork attached with a cable tie. The presentation on the plate was normal. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it

After our last visit here we were unfortunately very disappointed. The food was just mediocre to bad. The chicken skewers had the consistency of a shoe sole and the taste of the rest didn't blow us away either. The service seemed overwhelmed and, at least at our table, hardly present. We had to ask 3 times for the bill and the dessert we ordered never came at all. We were really looking forward to the meal and were bitterly disappointed.

We received a recommendation for this restaurant and were not disappointed. The service and ambience were great and the food was gigantic 👍.

Spontaneously popped in in the evening for small soups and sushi. Everything was clean and there were lots of tables on two levels in a modernly decorated environment. Lots of Christmas decorations and elaborately designed main courses and cocktails at the next table. Service attentive and fast with digital devices. Authentic and good price-performance ratio. Also good for visiting with children.

The food was incredibly tasty and plentiful, but I can't judge how authentic it is. I asked for additional spiciness, which was solved by sprinkling chili pieces on top; I would have liked that to be more inclusive. I was with my family (14 people) To eat. Everything was well prepared... a high chair for my granddaughter and enough space for another Konderwagen included. The food was very nicely prepared and was simply delicious. The service was friendly and attentive.

Hamburg hidden gem! My husband and I had a nice date at Ja An tonight. Beside tasty foods, they also have live music at the last Sunday of every month. Mark your calendar and come her with your beloved! Highly recommend this beautiful restaurant.

I happened to walk past JA AN this afternoon and ordered one of the lunch dishes. Service and the restaurant are very good. The food was nicely prepared and tasted very good - no fireworks, but the price-performance ratio was so good for the European palate that I will definitely come back.

Starters (dumplings and spring rolls) were good, as was the wine. The curry with duck had too little sauce, but tasted good. The vegetables with tofu were just bad. Overcooked, tofu tasted like nothing, sauce too sweet. The pho came with red onions, not enough cilantro and hardly any lime. My complaint was ignored. “Boss is coming soon.” - didn't show up. When I paid they just said: “Our sauce is always so sweet, the vegetables are otherwise crunchy.” Too bad.

Spontaneously had lunch with a good friend based on a recommendation. Nice rustic modern atmosphere. Friendly reception. There are several warm dishes and also sushi for lunch until 4 p.m. between €10 and €14. I ordered duck and was satisfied. The food was well presented and tasted good. I was a little lacking in sophistication. But everyone can feel that differently. Only the coconut soup was a little too expensive for me at €8 in relation to the quantity. But the taste was good. I would be happy to go there again.

We ended up here on the recommendation of a friend of my wife. Since we rarely stay in Poppenbüttel. The ambience is very clean and not too cluttered. The food and service was really very good for our taste. The menu consists of an interesting mix of Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese and Japanese cuisine. We ordered two types of sushi and were very impressed. A beautiful picture on the plate and excellent taste. The other dishes on the neighboring tables all looked very appetizing. All in all I think this restaurant is really recommended. If it were at home, we would definitely go there more often. The price-performance ratio is absolutely okay.
