Indisches Restaurant LAL QiLA in München

We visited Lal Qila Restaurant as part of our MP Birla Group Tour and enjoyed a very good dinner experience. The overall food quality was excellent, with authentic Indian flavours and good portions. Among all the dishes, the Tandoori Chicken was the standout — perfectly cooked, juicy, and full of flavour. Our whole group really enjoyed it. The ambience was comfortable and the staff were polite and attentive, making sure everything was served smoothly. A recommended place for Indian travellers looking for tasty Indian food abroad.

We've ordered takeout from them several times before, but this time it was really strange. The food tasted completely different, and the texture of the Malai Kofte was different too. Has there been a change of owner or chef? We ordered online for self-pickup and paid in cash. There was supposed to be a 10% discount for self-pickup, but it wasn't there! When we asked about it, the man said that discount only applies to orders placed by phone. I can't make any sense of that! Also, we specifically ordered all the dishes "without coriander." It simply wasn't taken into account.

We enjoyed the Afghani food, plenty of seats, prices were also reasonable, it's location is a bit tricky, as the entrance is inside a corridor or ally, and has another door on the back street.

The food was delicious and authentic. Our waiter was attentive, but unfortunately, one appetizer wasn't served. The ambiance could still be improved.

The portions are very small, it doesn't taste authentically Indian at all. Everything was very poorly prepared; I left my food. Paying €45 for this is insane. I will never come here again.

It's annoying that a pickup order is overlooked and not prepared until you arrive, but it can happen. The staff made up for it with friendliness and a lassi on the house. Unfortunately, I have to say that both dishes I ordered ranged in taste from absolutely insignificant to truly not good. Unfortunately, I can't recommend the restaurant in any way.

Avoid this restaurant for the following reasons: -We unfortunately got severe diarrhea the next morning after eating. -We had to wait forever for our food. -The waiter wasn't particularly friendly (we made a reservation through The Fork app with a 30% discount, but he refused to give it to us; we've been using The Fork for many years, even abroad, but we've never experienced anything like this). -You don't get an official bill, just a notorious "interim bill" without the restaurant name, VAT, QR/transaction code, etc.!

Catastrophic service, we ordered today at 7:30 p.m. the food came completely wrong and our delivery address was different. After a phone call with the boss, he said the driver would come with our order in 3 minutes. After 40 minutes I called again and the boss said it would take 5 minutes. We called again an hour later and this time he said the delivery person wouldn't deliver and would send his own driver. Now we're sitting here after more than 3 hours with no food and no one in the shop is answering the phone. I would advise any sensible person never to order anything or eat there again, they just lie to your face, it's a disgrace how they treat customers.

The food was delicious, but a naan wasn't included, which I immediately reported—but I never received a response, let alone a refund.

Very tasty food, no long wait, and no reservation necessary on Friday evenings. Wide selection of different dishes, including vegan and vegetarian options. Absolutely excellent value for money.

We've eaten here several times, and it's always been fine. Unfortunately, our last visit was a consistently bad experience. We still hadn't received a menu after more than 10 minutes, so we had to get it ourselves. The waiter didn't take our order for more than 20 minutes, and the food didn't arrive for another 30 minutes. It wasn't very busy that evening, so we don't understand the long wait times. Spicy dishes are marked accordingly on the menu. We normally enjoy spicy food, but opted for less spicy dishes that evening. Unfortunately, the dishes were spicy, and one was so spicy that we could barely eat it. The taste was okay, but the spiciness meant I barely noticed any of the flavor.

Have you ever been to a restaurant at lunchtime where they seat you, and take your food order although there is nobody present in the restaurant who is actually preparing any food? I had exactly that experience today, and it was at Lal Qila. We ordered food at 12 and waited 40 minutes, during which drinks were served. The drinking water had a strange funky taste to it which the waiter could not explain. Eventually, we had to ask what was going on to be told that the cook was not actually there yet and would be there in 15 minutes and would start preparing the food. Would have been great information to know when we sat down and ordered food before squandering our entire lunch break. Needless to say, we cancelled everything, paid for our drinks (except the undrinkable water) and left to quickly bolt down some food somewhere else. This place used to be on my rotation of lunch places on office days, and I had recommended it to colleagues. It was at my suggestion that our party of 5 was there, but never again.

We ordered food delivery. The food arrived after an hour and a half: the portions were very small, the taste mediocre, and the fish was dry. And the most outrageous thing: the potatoes with honey and chili were simply fries soggy in red sauce. Absolutely not recommended.

I was there with my best friend, and from that day on, this restaurant has been and will remain our favorite place. The staff are incredibly friendly and hospitable. The food is excellent! We ordered butter chicken and chicken tikka masala, and it was absolutely delicious! The atmosphere is also very romantic! The wine and white beer are excellent. For all the people who don't like this restaurant, I really don't know what's wrong with them, but whatever. Highly recommended! We will definitely come again!

Very attentive staff and delicious food! Unfortunately, it was a bit too spicy for my companion.

We always enjoyed our stay here and were satisfied. But the service and quality have declined significantly, not to say catastrophically. Half of the dishes are unavailable, tables are left uncleared or cleaned for hours, and cutlery is not replenished. We certainly won't be coming back under these conditions.

Please be brave and don't remove this review. We had the worst experience today as we came and ordered stuff and it took hours and even a glass beer was served only after being reminded two times. The food was expansive and the card machine was not working. We were just lucky to have cash. Saw other people leaving in anger too after waiting for hours. When the food came the Vegetarian Thali we ordered had stale vegetables, we even mentioned it to the waiter but he did not listen . The time of paying their machine was not working. Not recommended: Mango Lasse was out, Helles was out, and wheat beer was out. We waited over an hour for our food, then we were asked what we had ordered. One server served the entire restaurant, while a man behind the bar had little to do. The food tasted okay. We've had much better Indian food. We wanted to give the restaurant a second chance; there definitely won't be a third. What a shame.

Worst service I've ever experienced. We waited over an hour and had to ask the waiter to come to our table. He didn't even manage to bring both drinks. Unbelievable...

We had a reservation, were ignored for the first half hour, the wrong drink arrived after 40 minutes, and waited another 30 minutes for nothing. After over an hour, no food or drink—just a waste of time. We left with other guests.

actually eat deliciously. I've been a customer for years (especially for delivery) and have tolerated the enormous price increases in the last two years. Now we've just ordered our two standards again and the delivery boxes are now "new": the compartment for the main course (in this case chicken in gravy) is significantly smaller compared to last time. only the rice is there in abundance. that's it now!

I had dinner at Lal Quila with my family today and it was very tasty! The food tasted very fresh and the selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes is more than sufficient. The staff is friendly, warm and accommodating, and the atmosphere is great too. If I come to Munich again, I would like to come back to Lal Quila!

A nicely decorated Indian restaurant. The service was great! Very accommodating, friendly staff. The food was heavenly! If desired, the dishes can be prepared with coconut milk instead of cream. You can determine the intensity of the spiciness yourself. Not spicy really doesn't mean NOT spicy :) Gladly again!

Simply delicious! Everything was perfect for us: warm plates, very good rice, delicious garlic naan and two wonderful vegetarian dishes (Palak Paneer and Vegetable Jalfrezi). Rarely have Indian food been so good! Nice ambience and good service. Conclusion: Highly recommended!

The food was heavenly (especially the naan!!), exactly what you would hope for when visiting an Indian restaurant. The only small criticism was that we sat for a long time after eating until the waiter came again. Then maybe we would have ordered drinks or dessert. So we just went home full and happy, there are worse things :)

Nice service - but always on the cell phone and not at the guest. Food very tasty! Unfortunately, payment by card was not possible (PayPal or cash). That was strange (there was no proof either). It could have been embarrassing because I don't always have cash with me when I pay by card.

There were no grilled dishes and no naan bread. Unfortunately we had to get the waiter to our table to order something. He didn't pay any attention to us. The food was very spicy and unfortunately had no taste. This is not Indian spiciness but rather Thai. We wanted to order a dessert, but unfortunately there were several items from the already small selection that weren't available. We then decided on the Indian ice cream, which according to the waiter is a pistachio ice cream. The ice cream was not pistachio ice cream but an artificial tasting crystalline ice cream, which cost €7.50. I don't recommend the restaurant to anyone.

Best Indian Restaurant that I've tried so far in Munich! Really tasty vegetarian and vegan options

A stylish and elegant Indian restaurant.

We went to this restaurant spontaneously today and have rarely been as excited about a visit to a restaurant as we were today. The waiter was so nice and accommodating and gave us great advice after we browsed through the menu a bit haphazardly. The food that was recommended to us was just so delicious and suited our taste perfectly. I was treated so kindly and lovingly that it almost felt like I was at someone's home. We can fully recommend the restaurant and would visit it again on every trip to Munich.

Definitely no for food. Das ist nicht indisches essen!!! The amount of food is very less and taste is not good. I ordered chilli chicken as a starter and there was no chili in it. Instead it had honey. The worst food item was garlic naan. What he served is not naan. It's a scam. Interior design and atmosphere was good. But that's not the only thing we come for.

Went here with my friend via the Fork's 50% off coupon. The morsels of food that you get per dish is average in taste at best. The restaurant is more suited to the German palette, so don't expect spicy dishes to be spicy on an Indian scale. Chai was pretty good. The restaurant needs a lot of work in the kitchen for improving their dishes. The Garlic Naan was garlic roti; in no way it can be called Naan. The ambiance and atmosphere is beautiful.

We attended a party there. Food was good, Indian and Pakistani cuisines were served. You can sit outdoors as well if weather permits.

Lal Qila Munich: Must checkout (see video) What an amazing place for an outdoor summer party/celebration in a mesmerizing weather. We had super duper baby shower party (45+ adults and 15+ kids), what they unbelievably offer: 1. Lovely outdoor open seating 2. Super amazing food, specially Paneer Lababdaar and starters 3. Great service and welcome. All staff too humble. 4. Outdoor decoration 5. Safe for kids, lock the entrance. 6. Music system 7. Perfect for birthday and family celebration 5/5 for everything. I haven't find such an amazing place for celebrations in the last 10 years being in Munich.

Too expensive.Not authentic pakistani/indian food. The 'chicken karhai' had a creamy gravy with large pieces of capsicum in it.If you're craving authentic pakistani food please avoid. Kulfi had too much of a rose flavour and the quantity was really small for the price.

I passed by this restaurant and decided to dine in but they closing. However the waiter kind enough to let me take away. I ordered cauliflower vegetarian dish. While waiting chef preparing my food the waiter served mango lassi free. It’s very kind of him. Last time I ate from this restaurant was more than a year ago. Back then i don’t enjoy as much as now. Mainly due to dish too sweet. This time I don’t feel that. Also I think they don’t add MSG too.

Price-performance is right. The buffet could sometimes be refilled quicker. There is always space and in summer there is also a small beer garden in the inner courtyard.

1) If you're expecting authentic Indian food then don't come here. As an Indian, it is very disappointing. Tons of artificial colouring and synthetic (ketchup-like) flavour in foods. Maybe it is okay for the European taste but miles from the Indian experience - some gross mistakes were - the dry chilly chicken wasn't dry, it was full of gravy. The jalfrezi tasted of raw ketchup and was red in colour. I ordered vindaloo as well and it was not spicy at all. I understand the low spice here compared to India but it said "sehr scharf" and had absolutely 0 spice. 2) The service was fast but when we entered at 1:15pm in the restaurant, we were told we didn't have much time because they would close at 2:00pm and that we should hurry up, and that "rules are rules". However, we pointlessly rushed our order and experience as people came leisurely even around 1:45-1:50 and were served. It was just my personal experience, I would not recommend this place.

We were there with the Munich voucher book to test the restaurant. It started when we both wanted to order the same thing. The boss then said he didn't want that and almost forced us to order something else. Both dishes were mediocre in taste. And then we sat at the table with empty glasses for a whole 2 hours without anyone coming and asking if everything was okay or if we would like to drink something else. It wasn't busy and the waiter wasn't stressed. To pay we had to take the initiative ourselves and go to the bar. We wanted to pay with a card and were then told that if you came with a voucher book, you should pay in cash, otherwise the owner would still have to pay fees. Please don't take part in the voucher book if you don't want the guests! You definitely won't come back again.

Nothing special, but high prices. Unfortunately frozen chicken today. There are much better Indian restaurants.

I don't want to make everything bad. The service was friendly and good. The ambience is a bit dated but okay. The food, beef curry, wasn't a disaster either, but for €19.50 you can expect a little more than 6 small pieces of beef. There was no need for a knife and fork. No trace of curry, in a Bavarian restaurant it would undoubtedly have passed for beef goulash. My three fellow guests were also rather cautiously satisfied.

Portions are very small, rice for 2 is even smaller even with the Naan it was not enough. Prices are pretty high for the portion size, no free appetizers.
