Indian Restaurant Samrat in München

Nice Indian restaurant with a good selection of dishes! I tried the Navratan Kurma with rice, plain naan, Peshwari naan (sweet and flavorful), and Vegetable Biryani with raita. The biryani was excellent in taste — aromatic and well-cooked — but the only downside is that they didn’t use basmati rice. If they had, it could have easily been the star of the meal. The naan and Peshwari naan were soft and tasty, though we ordered two naans and received three pieces — which was a bit unclear. The raita was thick, creamy, and very tasty. The Navratan Kurma curry was decent but could be improved with a few adjustments. The restaurant stays open until 11:30 PM, which is a big plus for night travelers. The ambiance gives a warm feel of Indian culture, and the staff were friendly and welcoming.

Absolutely fantastic! The food here at Samrat was really great, the service was friendly, the prices are reasonable, and the location is convenient. I had a mango lassi, butter chicken, and garlic naan (pretty boring in itself), but I was more than satisfied with all of them. The food was served on a hot plate and stayed warm the whole time, even on a chilly evening. The meat was tender, the sauce was strong but still light, the rice wasn't sticky, and the lassi was fruity. I would order the same meal again in a heartbeat. Maybe an appetizer to try that too. Apart from the rather noisy location (+ the fire station across the street), I really can't think of anything that could be improved. If you're craving Indian food between the Isar suburbs and the city center, this is a great place to go.

Highly recommend the Shaahi Paneer. Usually in Munich, the Shaahi Paneer is too sweet, almost as if I’m having a dessert but Samrat has really done a great job bringing that perfect balance. Excellent service too.

In the middle of the city but still pretty quiet, with a cozy outdoor dining area. The starters were very good, all 5 main courses were very good and digestible. Since we were there with three children, it was very kind of the lady who served us to ask how spicy the dishes could be. One of the sauces was served extra mild for our youngest. The mango dessert was very delicious! In the words of our 10 year old son: “it was THE highlight of the week!!”. If we find our way to Munich from Austria again, we'll be happy to come by again!

Samrat truly exceeded our expectations - we enjoyed a wonderful evening with delightful dishes tailored to everyone's preferences—they happily adjust the spiciness to your liking. The service was warm and attentive without being intrusive, which we appreciated. I believe it's a family-run business, adding to its charm. I was particularly impressed by the extensive wine list, which offered a perfect pairing for every dish. The restaurant was extremely clean, pleasant music is being played quietly, there are no unpleasant smells in the room - overall a very nice dining experience. I'd recommend this place also if you want to take your favorite lady out for a date. Thanks again to the team for the nice evening!

Well-attended restaurant. Starter was very tasty, the chai was ok. The main course was tasty, but the mango cream was better.

The cuisine is generally not bad, but if an Indian restaurant offers a thali with three small pots for a completely overpriced EUR 16.30, which are filled with contents that are currently on the stove and only fill you up with the filling side dish of rice, and have nothing in common with a thali, you should avoid this restaurant. In addition, when I asked if there was no compulsory yoghurt served, the answer was that yoghurt could only be served in a thali for two people. So if you don't have to worry about your wallet and don't value original recipes from Indian cuisine, you can definitely be satisfied here, or you can choose the much better offers from some very good alternatives nearby... My first and last visit...

The food was not what you are used to with Indians. Few spices, lots of Mondaminfix sauce thickener. We were seated carelessly and processed in 25 minutes. No please or thank you, instead they constantly checked to see if we had finally finished eating and asked directly how we wanted to pay. The lassi cups were still half full and the knife and fork were still in their hands. The people next to us were almost finished eating when we arrived, but had to pay right after us. Others came later and were still eating when we left. Apparently they were from the neighborhood. We often go to the Indian restaurant on the corner in Rosenheim. It may not be more inviting, but the food is good and they are happy about every customer. Mango Lassi - Clear recommendation. Otherwise: We won't be coming back.

delicious Indian food, generous portion and all tasty. We got the chicken tikka, chicken tikka masala, malai kofta, mixed veggies and naan. The two chicken tikka dishes were a happy accident as the chicken tikka with the malai kofta coconut sauce was delicious. We did not have reservations and they were able to accommodate us.

Amazing curry and family, super spicy for the English

An authentic and incredibly delicious Indian restaurant! Almost all dishes are gluten-free because the owner herself avoids gluten. A true paradise for celiacs! :)

We had two paneer dishes. Palak paneer was with frozen spinach. The second dish is a watery soup made from pureed tomatoes, cream and almond butter. The dishes are relatively cheap for the location but still too high for the quality of the food

Here again it is shown that you do not have to go to a super fancy restaurant for the best food. The flavors of the dishes are perfect and if you want you can make it as spicy as you want. The service is very attentive and not pushy. The interior appearance is quite basic, but in the end it is always about the service and the quality and that is 5 stars.

We were 2 people and ordered a non vegetarian thali with aloo paratha and Dal makhani. The food was appropriately warm and very tasty. The portion size was also good. The owners are also very nice and warm people. We found the overall experience great and would definitely recommend it for the Indian food.

Very busy restaurant. But unfortunately the service suffers. Some of the food was already burnt, the pina colada was a strange recipe and not creamy and the service was very hectic and inattentive. Too bad

Large selection of dishes and super tasty!

Unfortunately I can't understand the good reviews here. Even the reception by the woman with the poncho was unpleasant. Their angry looks at our dog, who was lying quietly next to the table, as well as the unfriendly request to change places, immediately got us off to a bad start. The service seemed hectic and not attentive. Our plates were cleared away immediately without asking for any further requests. The food was acceptable, but by no means special. Both hospitality and a welcoming atmosphere were missing. I will definitely not visit this restaurant again.

Small nice restaurant. Great ambience. Salad and the mixed starter for one person were very good and large portions. The main courses, chicken tikka and beef masala, were extremely tasty. The meat is very tender and has sauce to soak in. Garlic naan and regular naan was also very good. Rarely have I had such good Indian food.

I ate the mixed pakoras and the thali for 1 person. It was perfect! I was welcomed so warmly, as if I was family. I'm looking forward to next time! Thank you!

We became aware of the restaurant through the Schlemmerblock and are very enthusiastic. The lassis are highly recommended. We had mango and banana. The banana chicken is also recommended. Very nice service. Delicious authentic Indian cuisine. The food was very tasty, but could have been presented a little nicer. I ordered a Pina Colada that didn't taste good at all. So if you skip the cocktails, then it is a recommended restaurant.

Highly recommend butter chicken

Since our review from April was deleted with flimsy arguments, here is our impression again: Unfortunately, the visit to the restaurant was a total failure. Above all, the service and the refusal to accept our voucher were disastrous. The restaurant itself is rather uncomfortable and cramped. The food wasn't much better. Overall, unfortunately, a strange impression and you didn't feel welcome. The photo as proof that we were really there, because that was the last time the restaurant used it as “evidence” to have the bad review deleted.

Here is my original review: We ordered in the evening via Lieferando - 1x chicken, 2x vegetarian. Unfortunately, the food tasted very boring: the dishes were all quite unspectacularly seasoned. Two sauces were the same. You can get more for the same money somewhere else...

A very nice, small Indian restaurant, clean (including the toilets), delicious food (my husband and I particularly liked the mango cream dessert with vanilla ice cream) and very friendly and attentive service. The prices were also real. We really enjoyed our visit (on a Sunday lunchtime in August). We can definitely recommend it!

We tried the lunch menu here. The service staff seemed like we were bothering her - even though we were the only guests. The portions were surprisingly small, so it was hard to feel full. And after paying the bill by card, I asked for an invoice. Only after the printout did it become clear that the waitress had overcharged us €2 - for two meals and one drink. A 2 euro coin was handed to me without a word and the waitress disappeared again. Are we coming back? Rather not...

Die Portionen waren überraschend klein, so dass man kaum satt geworden ist. Und nachdem ich die Rechnung per Karte bezahlt hatte, bat ich um eine Rechnung. Erst nach dem Ausdruck wurde deutlich, dass die Bedienung uns 2 € zu viel berechnet hatte - bei 2 Essen und 1 Getränk. Wortlos wurde mir eine 2-Euro-Münze in die Hand gedrückt und die Bedienung ist wieder verschwunden. Kommen wir wieder? Eher nicht...

A very polite staff at the entrance. The waitress comes towards me and asks me “a person”? Which in itself is completely OK. When I very kindly asked to go to the toilet. This was immediately denied and the sign was pointed out to customers only. Alright, then I went in and ordered a little water. The then unfriendly lady wanted to give me a large water. I said no and said again as a customer a little water please. She then called the owner over. He said the toilet was only for customers, I told him I was a customer and just wanted a glass of water which I was willing to pay for. He also said there were too many tourists and needed to clean. I mean, the restaurant has to be cleaned, whether there are one or thirty guests. I'm paying for it. I don't want anything for free! After some crazy back and forth, I got the water. Drunk, then went to the toilet and continued my sightseeing in Munich. For me personally, it's a no-go to forbid someone from doing this even though they pay. So I only give this service one star. The two women and the owner of the restaurant were affected. Unfortunately I can't give any information about the food. Please get better.

Great restaurant! Very tasty dishes and friendly and fast service.

On a warm summer evening we sat outside, it was a bit noisy from the traffic, but that wasn't too bad. The service was very attentive, friendly and accommodating. The food tasted delicious and was appetizingly prepared. The price-performance ratio was right, an absolute recommendation for someone who likes to eat Indian food.

We were physically attacked by the owner on the day of the CSD because we wanted to go to the bathroom and didn't know that you would have had to PAY to go to the bathroom on the day of a parade. INDIAN GUESTS TREATED POORLY I am on a business trip and wanted to try Indian cuisine and went to Samrat based on the overall positive reviews. My personal experience was less than satisfactory. I typically do not complain about bad food but it is unsatisfactory service that really bothers me. Let me quickly get the food quality out of the way first. I ordered vegetable pakoras (picture attached) which were simply dripping with oil and the cauliflower pakora had raw batter (besan) inside it. The main course was vegetarian thali. The roti and rice were prepared well. The vegetables were way over cooked, too spicy with just tomatoes overpowering any other flavor. Back to the service: It seems to be a family run business. I was served by a lady in a black dress. There was zero eye contact, zero smiles, zero pleasantries of any kind while I sat myself down. Even when serving me the meal, she literally looked the other way. I even said "thank you" to her but she never acknowledged it by as much as a look back or a smile. For payment, I asked her if they accepted a certain credit card. I asked her in English (because I cannot speak German). Then I asked her in Hindi (because the family was speaking fluent Punjabi amongst themselves, and it is very similar to Hindi) but she simply frowned and pointed a finger at me to go inside. I noticed the other server and the owner and none of them had a pleasant demeanor you would expect from someone in the hospitality industry. It is possible that they save this kind of indifferent/border-line rude behavior for fellow Indians (unfortunately, a common enough practice in the Indian restaurant industry outside of India) but it would be much worse if they behave like this with all their guests. Treat everyone with respect and make it an enjoyable experience for your guests. P.S. I noticed looking at other reviews that the "Samrat Team" only acknowledges/thanks people who post positive reviews. All the critical reviews are simply unacknowledged. That should also tell you a lot about their professionalism or lack thereof.

The best Indian restaurant in Munich! I've tried several Indian restaurants, but Samrat is by far the best! Big praise to the excellent chef and the very nice waitresses. Absolutely recommended.

Very nice restaurant. The food arrived very quickly after ordering and tasted very good. The portions could perhaps be a bit larger, but in my opinion it was good value for money. My most recent visit to the Samrat restaurant in Munich was a complete success – both in terms of cuisine and atmosphere. The menu offers an excellent selection of traditional Indian dishes, prepared with fresh ingredients and an ideal blend of spices. The butter chicken is particularly recommended; It impresses with its tender chicken and creamy sauce. I can also recommend the Keema Naan as an insider tip! The atmosphere in the restaurant is warm and inviting, complemented by authentic decoration that perfectly captures the Indian flair. The service at Samrat is also exceptional. The attentive staff strives to make each guest's stay special by explaining dishes in detail and catering to individual preferences. In short, Samrat is a real asset to Munich and an absolute must for anyone who wants to enjoy real Indian cuisine in a truly hospitable environment. A highlight for every gourmet!

Best Indian food in Munich was perfect

Suitable for Europeans. I would not recommend it to Indians for following reasons. 1. Food taste is below average. You order Chicken tikka, they give you tandoori. 2. Food has slightly sweet taste. No concept of green chutney. They serve red chutney which was sweet 3. Indian diners are not treated well. Orders are taken late and food is also served late. All dinners had their table candle lit by waitress. But she didn't bother to do it for our table 4. Avoid going after 9:30pm if at all. We had a bad experience. We had checked reviews before going to the restaurant but to our surprise we hardly got attention. We wanted to give the waitress benefit of doubt. But the order was not taken for some time. After ordering we waited for food half an hour. We had to go to the reception to ask about the order. We were slammed that we arrived late. We later read few other rating from Indian customers. We had exactly same experience as others. We hoped food atleast would be good. But except for the the mango lassi and dal I didn't like anything. Any additional cutlery requested was not provided. The waitress tried to be courteous later but the damage was done!

Don't go if you are missing Indian food, go if you want to try Indian food. Food is alright, mango lassi was good. The starter dish came after main dish. Service is poor, especially for Indians. The only feeling of home was that lady spoke in Hindi. Otherwise, if you are Indian, you are likely to be treated as 2nd class customers. The lady at the counter lied to me on my face. My friend booked the table for 5 at 9:45 PM. I clearly remember because I had suggested the time as we were traveling by train. We reached around 9:50. When food did not arrive at 10.45, I asked the lady and she said you were late because the booking was for 9 PM. A plate had something in it and wheI asked for replacement, she said ohh, it's fine. She later replaced it. I would not recommend to any Indian in Munich to go here.

1 star because there is no option for negative rating. We ordered a vegetarian thali and they served us chicken. On raising this issue the owner said its okay you ate by mistake thats no problem. How can it not be a problem ? You have played with our religious beliefs and how dare you say that it’s okay ? Utter nonsense. The lady was rude. Chai was overcooked so tasted bitter and strangely also salty. I drink Chai latte very often. This one is the worst I ever have. Naan was burned and tasted like the dough was not prepared well. I was treated unwell either. All experience was not worth the money.
