Hubertusklause Juist in Juist

For my birthday, we ate at the Hubertusklause again last night. I ordered Asian-style mussels. I received a pasta dish with mussels, without any broth, bread, and a plate for the shells. It smelled quite unpleasant, as other guests later told me. At first glance, I could easily put about 12 completely closed mussels to the side. I then returned the entire plate without even tasting them. It was simply too disgusting. I then refused to have mussels again several times and chose something else. The mussels were still charged on the bill. This was the first time that evening, and they took it back with an apology. I am very disappointed, even horrified, to have been served such a meal, especially since we've had better experiences in the past.

The service team consists of a team of young Asians who barely speak German or English. The food wasn't great—very greasy, overcooked, and tough. The burger and goulash, however, were very good.

We ordered mussels "Rhineland style" and were very disappointed. The restrooms are also a bit dated.

A large selection of different fish dishes. We particularly liked the option to choose your own side dishes. Even when it was busy, the service was excellent and everyone was always happy to please!

Very good service: it was full, we didn't have a reservation, but the ladies worked hard to get us a table. Thank you! The food is very good compared to the rest of the island, and the prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend it.

You initially think of good, home-style cooking and are a bit surprised by the staff and menu... Despite our initial confusion, everyone found something to enjoy, even the kids. The plaice, burgers, and pork steak are highly recommended, and the schnitzel for our little one was fantastic. You could call it good, home-style cooking with a twist, and the service was good too. As always on Juist, the prices are a bit questionable, but they're perfectly fine, as the whole package is just right.

Super friendly staff. Organization could be better. The food is good, but it gets a bit of a B-grade. The pasta sauce with chanterelle mushrooms is similar to the cream of chanterelle soup. The whole sea bass leaves a few scales. It's still good.

*** Update from 2025 *** Oh, we weren't expecting that: when we arrived at the reserved time, they made us wait at the door. After a while, they finally asked if we had a reservation – only to leave us standing there without comment. When the young lady decided to go back to drying our glasses, we left. It's a shame, because this was originally a 5-star review. *** Original review from 2023: The friendly team at the Hubertusklause welcomed us warmly from the very first moment. We had reserved a table just in case, but in retrospect, that wasn't really necessary. Our drinks order came promptly, and the food we ordered was also served surprisingly quickly. The grilled fish platter was extremely delicious; the fresh vegetables served with it were pleasantly tender, and the fried potatoes were exactly to my taste. We also had a cordon bleu, which was served very crispy; even a slight change in the side order was no problem. We highly recommend the Hubertusklause and will treat ourselves to another evening here at the end of our island visit.

The Hubertusklause was once an institution on Juist. I was very disappointed. They urgently need a chef and head chef. At these prices, a good chef should be possible.

The food arrived piping hot. And it wasn't overseasoned. The ingredients were able to develop well.

I've deleted my 5-star review from 2022. The corn-fed chicken breast menu is a huge rip-off. They even cheekily print 220g gross on the menu. They serve a tiny little something with cheap French fries. Not even a hint of a lettuce leaf for €22.40. The prices being charged here are beyond normal. This can't be due to energy costs, let alone the minimum wage.

The food remained very good. The special chanterelle mushroom menu was good. The staff was new and a bit overly cautious with the language barrier. The ice cream sundae (dessert) was a challenge and we had to ask for it. It was nice, though, and they just needed a few tips on how to serve.

Over the past two years, the Hubertusklause has become an insider tip for good food and value for money. It's a good idea to read the menu carefully if you want to determine the type and number of free/paid side dishes. The fish with vegetables and fried potatoes/fries was very good!

The two of us ate here on the recommendation of a family member. It's worth mentioning that the recommendation came from someone who had last been there about ten years ago. We had certain expectations, which were unfortunately only partially met. First of all, the service was consistently friendly and courteous; there's nothing to complain about here. The ambiance itself, while not uniform, is still cozy. We felt at home here. As for the food, I had potato pancakes with salmon as a starter. The portion was generous and flavorful. For the main course, we had the fish variation, which includes three different types of fish. As a side dish, I had a baked potato and fried potatoes, since you can choose two sides. The fried potatoes were, as expected, quite bland; they lacked seasoning. Regarding the fish, unfortunately, all three variations were overcooked. A slightly shorter time in the pan would have done the fish a lot of good. The baked potato was also just "okay." Unfortunately, we were a bit disappointed here. As for dessert, I had a limoncello tiramisu. There was nothing to complain about here, but I would definitely give the dessert a B. Would we go here again? We would definitely give this restaurant a second chance, as only the main course didn't live up to our expectations.

First of all: we have been coming to the island for more than 20 years and we have visited the Hubertusklause at least once on vacation. After the last two visits we decided to avoid the Hubertusklause. Reasons: Waiting times are far too long before we are even noticed. Getting the wrong food. Staff is completely overwhelmed. The quality of the food has deteriorated significantly. We still wish the restaurant all the best!

Unfortunately, our visit to the restaurant this time was disappointing. We had to wait over an hour for our food, which was apparently due to a technical problem in the kitchen. There was a brief apology, but unfortunately no further explanation. When the food finally came, it was the wrong dish. It went back to the kitchen and was freshly prepared again - that took around 20 minutes again. We understand that something like this can happen, especially when things are busy. Nevertheless, more open and transparent communication would have been helpful. The food was really delicious. The The staff tried hard, but unfortunately the process spoiled the evening quite a bit.

The food was OK. Unfortunately we couldn't have a conversation because the annoying music was too loud. There was also no response to a request to turn it down. Otherwise the house is a bit outdated, we had hoped for more. Repeat?..... Thanks no.

We had a nightcap here. The Hubertus-Klause is a cozy restaurant with a bar that is a bit old. The service is friendly and the prices for drinks are very reasonable.

I have had good experiences in the past and have been satisfied for a long time. As always, the service was nice and friendly, which I really appreciate. Unfortunately, this time the food wasn't entirely convincing: the fried potatoes were charred and the soup tasted mealy. Unfortunately, despite our advice, the chef didn't respond, which was disappointing. Overall it was ok, but not at the level I was used to. I hope that the quality of the food will improve again, because I generally like the restaurant and would like to come back.

Vor dem Restaurant wurde auf einer Tafel Scholle in zwei Variationen angeboten. Wir haben eine Scholle "Natur" bestellt. Bekommen haben wir billiges Schollenfilet mit fettigen Bratkartoffeln. Selten (für eine solchen Preis!!!) so schlecht gegessen. Der nachträgliche Hinweis der Bedienung, dass in der Karte "Schollenfilet" vermerkt ist, macht das Ganze nicht besser!

Wir haben in der Hubertusklause ein Silvesterdinner bestellt für 20.00 Uhr. Als wir ankamen war der Tisch noch nicht gedeckt. Das wurde ca. 20 Minuten später gemacht. Der Kellner, ein überhaupt nicht höflicher Mensch, knallte uns das Besteck mit Papierservierte auf den Tisch. Zu einem Silvesterdinner hatten wir etwas anderes erwartet. Einen schön eingedeckten Tisch, etwas stilvoll. Die Getränke kamen dann um ca. 20.40 Uhr. Den ersten Gang bekamen wir um 21.00 Uhr. Das Essen war sehr lecker. Der Service grottenschlecht. Wir mussten immer wieder den Kellner rufen, um ein Getränk zu bekommen. Kein bisschen Aufmerksamkeit. Am Nachbartisch wurde einem Mann eine Sektflasche serviert, die er noch selber öffnen musste. Es sind noch viele andere Dinge passiert. Zu einem leckeren Essen gehört auch ein guter Service. Das war nicht gegeben. Da wir uns den Silvesterabend nicht verderben lassen wollten, haben wir einfach über diese Dinge nur noch gelacht.

The location was mostly fine. In my opinion, the tables were lined up too close together for 1-2 people...it felt cramped. The service was friendly and personable. I think it's good when new specialists/trainees are sent directly to the tables, because as with everything, it's "learning by doing" and of course something can go wrong. As is well known, no master has ever fallen from heaven. The food was upscale bourgeois cuisine and it tasted very good. The timing between the individual courses was well coordinated. I'll be happy to come back next time I'm on Juist...

Die Löffel für die Suppen kamen erst nach 2facher Erinnerung. Gebrauchtes Gesschirr wurde nicht abgeräumt. Der Kabeljau mit Pflaumen enthielt keine einzige Pflaume. Das Pilzrisotto schmeckte noch garnichts und hatte eine ekelhafte gelb-grüne Farbe...

Mediocrity at inflated prices. Two out of three meals were good. The chanterelle risotto was terrible. Lukewarm (warmed up in the microwave after complaint) and tasteless. Butter and parmesan not present or at least not to the taste, no seasoning and more tomatoes than chanterelles. Plus a very small portion. However, the worst thing was the service. It was still possible to place an order, the waiting time for the food was still reasonable, but after the food was delivered more or less without a word we no longer paid any attention. No questions about further requests or our satisfaction. Empty plates were not cleared away (not even at the next tables), and no requests were made for additional drinks or dessert. The store was only about half full. The request for the bill was accepted but not fulfilled. We then went to the counter to pay. It took a while until what was probably the only German-speaking service person arrived. This is probably because only Asian women with almost no knowledge of German and apparently no knowledge of restaurants work in the service. The shortage of staff in the hospitality industry is of course well known, but it really doesn't work that way.

Reichlich und lecker waren die Speisen, freundlich und kompetent das Personal. Preis-Leistung stimmt. Das Ambiente ist eher rustikal.

Staff committed and friendly. Price-performance is excellent compared to the island. Many of the negative reviews here are absolutely incomprehensible to us. We would definitely come again.

Fried herring with fried potatoes for over 20.00 is something to be proud of. The baked potatoes were frozen and warmed up in the deep fryer, glassy on the inside, soft on the outside and the fried herring probably came from a can

Das Essen ist fantastisch und der Service aufmerksam. Preise sind sehr angemessen für die Insel gerne wieder. :))))))

Gut bürgerlich ohne Schnick-Schnack, aber schmackhaft und lecker.Kleines Amuse-geule mit sehr raffinierten Oliven-Confit, sehr schmackhaft; Panfisch mit Speck-Bratkartoffeln und Zwiebeln war super-lecker, und das "Dickste Kotlett" war wirklich dick und auf den Punkt saftig, dazu kleine Kartöffelchen. Fazit: Preis-Leistung voll ok, supergute Wahl in nettem Ambiente mit freundlichem, zuvorkommendem Service. Wir kommen wieder.

The restaurant looks exactly what you imagine when you hear the name “Hubertusklause”. Kind of stuck in the 80s and lots of rustic stuff everywhere. We quickly got a seat opposite the counter and just as quickly the menu and the first drinks. The service was really great and super friendly. I ordered the “biggest cutlet” on the island and my girlfriend ordered a portion of fresh asparagus. I don't know when was the last time I ate such a good and delicious piece of meat. The cutlet was fried to perfection, the breading was rich, and the seasoning was appropriate. Add to that the sheer size (500 g)... the side dishes simply didn't matter anymore. The asparagus was also cooked perfectly, the fried potatoes were hot and not very greasy, only the hollondaise was probably from the package. There were also delicious aperitifs and a course of particularly delicious Köstritzer black beer. Everything is a bit more expensive due to the nature of the island, but rightly so. Even though it is rustic here, we can only recommend the restaurant.

Abendessen in der Gruppe mit drei Veganern und einem Kind: und alle waren zufrieden. Sehr aufmerksamer und freundlicher Service, Getränke und Essen schnell geliefert, Brot mit Gemüsedip als Vorspeise gratis dazu, Malbuch mit Stiften fürs Kind. Burger sehr lecker, Risotto und Chili sin Carne ebenfalls. Eine rundum positive Erfahrung, wir kommen gerne wieder.

They advertise the Bundesliga and only later it turns out that DAZN doesn't work. Of course the expensive drink was already ordered and at the table. No response other than a shoulder shrug and “sorry.” Really disappointing. The staff tried hard, but the outside advertising is simply misleading.

All in all, it was unfortunately rather disappointing.

The food is completely overpriced for what you get. The service was rude and annoyed. Next time we would like to go somewhere else.

15 minutes before you can order drinks is definitely too long. I find entrecote the thickness of a 5-minute steak very steep for 30 euros. The fries were like they came out of the oven. You can eat better elsewhere on Juist for the money. Toilet was like 50 years ago and not clean. Please clean often in between. A pity. I expected much more.

We've been coming here to eat for years. The staff is always very attentive and friendly and the food is delicious! We also think it's nice to try something new, such as vegetarian/vegan dishes!

Absolutely the best. Classic North German ambience, very solid cuisine with a wide selection of fish, meat and vegetarian dishes. First class selection of spirits. As for the beers, you would enjoy Guinness as it would go great with the steaks fried in the Beefer. The staff is recruited internationally and is friendly, competent and very customer-oriented (special praise to our waitress, Merry). Absolutely recommended and very reasonably priced despite the VAT increase!

The ambience is getting old, but somehow that also has its charm. The fish was excellent and all the extras (salad instead of potatoes, etc.) were easily taken into account. Totally reasonable in price. Almost all portions are available in large and small, which I think is great, so you don't have to go back. The service was very nice and went out of its way to help us.

Das Essen war überragend und man konnte schmecken, dass ambitionierte Profis am Herd stehen. Zudem gab es morgens ein opulentes Frühstücksbüffet mit reichhaltiger und toller Auswahl. Der Service hat mit Charme und Professionalität herausgestochen. Preis Leistung steht absolut um Verhältnis. Alles in allem war unser Aufenthalt sehr empfehlenswert und wir kommen gerne wieder

Hmm...very 90s, this room with the wicker chairs, not really my thing. A year ago I ate kale with pee here and loved it! Not so this time, the kale didn't taste like kale, just like bacon, the fried potatoes seemed like they had been warmed up three times, and all at an outrageous price! Sorrynotsorry

I'm currently sitting in the hotel bar of the Nordsee Hotel Freese, to which the Hubertusklause belongs, and writing this review (by the way, a nice, quiet bar atmosphere) So I ordered the entrecote 250g with steakhouse fries and pepper sauce and logically ate it ;) I ordered the steak medium and it came out perfectly cooked, really top class, the pepper sauce and the fries were also super tasty. Everything else, service super friendly and attentive. The only tiny point of criticism would be the furnishings, it needed a bit of love and care to restore everything to its original splendor, but that is definitely a matter of opinion for each individual. On Friday I'm going back to my far away home, north 😉, and I think it's a shame that there's the mud flats in between, otherwise I'd be here for dinner more often.

We ordered the New Year's Eve menu from where we live and ate it today on New Year's Eve. This delivered menu was simply not worth the money (€99). The portions were very, very clear. In the fish dish, the cauliflower was burnt and the fish was inexpertly fried. Everything was much better exactly two years ago. Today the only thing that can be praised is the friendly and attentive service. It's a shame we had imagined it differently! No reputation for such a good hotel!

We have been coming to Juist for many years and the Hubertusklause has always been our first address. We were already looking forward to the good and delicious food at home. Unfortunately, this has changed more and more in the last 2 years. The reservation went very well and the atmosphere is still very nice and cozy. The food no longer corresponds to the quality it used to have. I had now ordered plaice fillet and received 4 pieces of fish. 1 piece only looked like plaice in terms of shape. The other 3 pieces had a narrow rectangular shape. All 4 pieces were sticky, which is what happens when you reheat fish that has already been cooked. A dip was served with the bread, the taste of which could not be defined. All in all, the cuisine has taken on a very strong Indian touch. Here you should return to originality. In addition, the prices charged do not correspond to the quality. This is something you should urgently think about. In the future we will think carefully about whether we will eat here again, after all there are many other and better alternatives. A pity. Greetings from Wuppertal

Vermissen dort die regionale Küche. "Original Ostfriesische Krabbensuppe" mit Kokosmilch und Curry.............. NEE, geht nicht!!! Konzentriert euch mal wieder aufs Original! Fahren nicht an die Nordsee um diese "experimentelle Küche" zu testen...Hotel Freese war toll. Eure Küche........naja....das Essen hätte heißer sein könnnen, vorallem die Muscheln "Rheinische Art"...die waren eher kalt...lecker waren sie...kommt mal wieder auf den Boden zurück und serviert das, was Ostfriesland Urlauber wollen! Hört auf mit den Experimenten! Diese "Küchenwerkstatt" auf Juist war Zumutung genug! "Back to the roots!" Kein original Inselliebhaber will dieses Essen! Konzentriert euch mal wieder auf das bodenständige! Denn das fehlt auf der Insel!!!!!

Habe in der Hubertusklause Thailändische Muscheln gegessen. Sie waren seit Jahrzehnten die besten Muscheln. Absolut empfehlenswert!!!

Perfektes Essen, Küche und Service absolut empfehlenswert

Man möchte so gerne. Aber es klappt nicht so 100% . Das Essen kommt zu 90% richtig, bei den Getränken ist halt ein warmes dabei. Statt salat halt mal Gemüse.... Man bemüht sich... aber ist halt nicht ganz das Niveau was man hier gerne haben möchte

Essen Top! Selbst auf Glutenfrei wurde geachtet und trotz vollem Haus extra zubereitet! Service sehr zuvorkommend, freundlich (trotz 3 nervenden Kids) ! Rund um eigentlich 5 Punkte jetzt das ABER=> traut euch bitte die Räumlichkeiten zu renovieren etwas moderner zu gestalten, Plastikblumen sind zwar praktisch sehen aber irgendwann sch... aus. Dann lieber keine Blumen. Trennwände zu den Toiletten aus Sperrholz mühsam versucht hinter Farbe zu verdecken geht auch nicht mehr. Ich weiß im laufenden Betrieb schwer aber nutzt die Zeit wenn weniger los ist auf Juist und startet frisch durch! Wir sehen uns nächstes Jahr und ich guck wieder ;-)

Trotz kurzfristiger Reservierung (circa 2,5 Stunden vorher) und vollem Restaurant, wurde unserem von Zöliakie betroffenem Sohn ein glutenfreies Wiener-Schnitzel frisch zubereitet. Im Vorhinein wurde durch die Servicekraft auf eine längere Zubereitungszeit hingewiesen und unseren drei Kindern Malutensilien zur Beschäftigung gebracht. Der Koch kam, nachdem unsere Gerichte serviert wurden, sogar persönlich an unseren Tisch, um uns zu erklären, dass er, bei so voller Gaststube, mit der Zubereitung glutenfreier Speisen zurückhaltend sei. Uns ist eine sorgsame und damit kontaminationsfreie Zubereitung lieber, als schnell unsere bestellten Speisen zu bekommen und unser Sohn war von seinem glutenfreien Gericht begeistert. Auch alle anderen Speisen haben uns hervorragend geschmeckt.

Nicht mehr was es mal war. Leber war matschig und voller sehnen. Angus Burger mit bbq sauce (gefühlt vom discounter )plus bbq sauce zu den Pommes. Einiges kam nicht wie in der Karte beschrieben. Gemüse ohne Soße etc. Preise sind höher als im Internet beschrieben und generell viel zu hoch. Das Personal spricht kaum deutsch weshalb es zu vielen Missverständnissen kam. Anstrengend. Nach Jahren der Treue gehen wir nicht wieder dort hin.

Die Hubertusklause hebt sich positiv von manch anderem Restaurant in Juist ab. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Die Gerichte sind sehr gut zubereitet.

Ein gemütlicher Abend mit Freunden war geplant - und unsere Erwartungen wurden weit übertroffen! Nach unserer Reservierung haben wir einen tollen Tisch zugewiesen bekommen. Der Service war freundlich, schnell und sehr aufmerksam. Nach einem leckeren Glas Wein folgte auch schon der „Gruß aus der Küche“ und stimmte uns auf die ansprechend angerichteten Hauptgerichte ein. Diese kamen zeitlich sehr gut abgestimmt, genau richtig temperiert und perfekt gegart bei uns am Tisch an. Geschmacklich rundete der Hauptgang den Abend perfekt ab. Besonders die zarten Fleischgerichte bekamen großes geschmackliches Lob. Danke, für diesen sehr gemütlichen Abend!

Ambiente ist ganz passabel. Etwas heruntergekommen. Der Service war kaum der deutschen Sprache mächtig und wiederholt alles was man sagt, meistens falsch. Das Essen...Alles was ich sagen kann ist, es macht satt. Die Spargelsuppe war total flockig, nicht genießbar und offensichtlich ein Tütenprodukt. Die Tagliatelle mit Pfifferlingsoße sahen aus wie braune Matsche und schmeckten nur unwesentlich besser als sie aussahen. Als Hauptspeise gab es den Fischburger - die Süßkartoffelpommes total labbrig und übersalzen. Der Fisch auf dem Burger war ganz gut, der Burger an sich aber lieblos und geschmacklos. Das "Chutney" dazu war keins sondern eine Soße, die viel zu sauer war. Das beste am Gericht war die Salatbeilage. An dem Abend gab es noch Live-Musik, die aber den Geschmack died Essens auch nicht verbessern konnte. Also, es tut mir leid, aber ich werde nicht mehr wieder kommen.

Vom Essen hab ich bei den Preisen einiges mehr erwartet. Ich hatte den Fischburger, bei welchem das Brötchen viel zu trocken war. Der Fisch war in Ordnung und das beste am ganzen Gericht. Das so genannte "Sanddorn-Chutney" war kein Chutney sondern nur eine so gut wie ungenießbare saure Soße. Um der Trockenheit des Burgers entgegenzuwirken habe ich mit dann an der Hollandaisesauce meiner Begleitung bedient, dann könnte man es ganz gut essen. Die hausgemachten Tagliatelle mit Pfifferlingen die ich als Vorspeise gewählt habe konnte man so gerade essen, appetitliches Aussehen ist allerdings was anderes. Die Sauce war eine graue Matsche mit einem eigentümlichen Geschmack, die Tagliatelle wirkten mehr wie Spätzle und die Pfilleringe waren okey. Das Ambiente war in Ordnung, man sollte sich nur die Decke nicht zu genau ansehen. Abschlussfazit meine 4 Begleitpersonen und ich waren ziemlich unzufrieden und werden leider nicht nochmal wiederkommen.

Wir waren mit 5 Personen dort. Sehr freundliche Bedienung. Küche auf solidem mittleren Niveau. Weinkarte gut. Live Musik vorhanden 😅

Jetzt mit neuem Küchenchef. Essen top, Service zuvorkommend und freundlich. Lediglich das Ambiente bräuchte eine General-Überholung.

Die Speisen waren ok. Das „Dicke Kotelett“ war mir etwas zu durchwachsen. Der Service sprach kaum Deutsch.

Wir waren an 2 Abenden hintereinander hier essen als Paar. Der Service war freundlich, das Essen lecker. Sowohl Fleisch- als auch Fischgerichte waren zu unserer vollen Zufriedenheit. Wir können das Lokal weiter empfehlen.
