Hotel Restaurant Seestern in Heiligenhafen

We were just a couple who wanted a drink in the evening and were turned away, despite plenty of free tables. We wouldn't have been welcome without something to eat. Okay, then we'll take our money somewhere else. You can't make any money from drinks, can you? Some people have it too good.

On our way back from Fehmarn, we always stop at this restaurant. Because the food always tastes the best here. The service is always friendly and helpful. We had plaice and four types of fish, fried plain, with fried potatoes. The taste was always top-notch, fresh, and well-prepared. The fried potatoes were also good. Not at all greasy like in most restaurants. The value for money is always excellent here. Keep it up, we'll be back!

This is the second time we've eaten fish at this restaurant, and we're absolutely thrilled. Everything is just right here: the fish is delicious, and the staff are very attentive and very friendly. Upscale atmosphere in authentic seaport style, with a wide selection of delicious seafood.

A bit rude at times. Guests were treated a bit rudely. Very hectic, everything was loud, and there was no music. People stood in line and waited 30 minutes for a table at Schmitt, but reserved tables were empty for a long time. Even guests who had reserved a table still had to wait at the bar. Drinks also took a long time. The food was good, though. The price was also reasonable.

We had dinner in the boat today (heated "terrace") and were thrilled. Since you can't make reservations there, we had to wait about 10 minutes at the bar, where we were able to have an aperitif. Then a table became available for us. The service staff is superbly organized and incredibly friendly. And the food: top-notch. Highly recommended. We'll be back.

We were there for the first time seven years ago. And now again. I might even say, given the convincing value for money, that it's the best restaurant in town.

A definite recommendation! We ate here as a couple with our dog and were very satisfied. We didn't have to wait long, the service was very friendly, the atmosphere was lovely, and the food was delicious. We'd love to come back! (We can't comment on the hotel as we didn't stay there.)

When we come to Heiligenhafen, we come to our second home. And when we eat at the Seestern, the same applies. The same great staff for what feels like 25 years, the manager takes care of our dog, the food is divine, and the prices are reasonable. Highly recommended, and thank you.

We ate at Seestern today, and it was really good! I'm not happy, though, that a reorder of two very small slices of garlic bread costs a whopping €3 ❗️We found it on our bill and find it very outrageous ❗️😡

To my great delight, I stopped here. I had the plain plaice, and it was truly delicious. While I was eating, I could hear the praises of the guests all around me. Highly recommended! Portions were quite large and really good value for money.

The location is wonderfully central yet quiet. The staff is exceptionally friendly—even when things get hectic at times. The breakfast is beautifully prepared, individually prepared, and served at your table. Only the kitchen closed earlier than advertised, so we unfortunately had to skip dinner the first evening. The very generous and delicious food on the second evening made up for everything. We felt very comfortable. Our dog was also very welcome. We would gladly come back.

Anyone who enjoys good food should definitely come here. Great staff, always friendly no matter how busy it is, and the food is perfect and delicious. High praise for the kitchen and service. This makes eating out on vacation a pleasure.

We've been there three times now, and if we're in Heilingenhafen a fourth time, we'll go there again.

We ate at this restaurant three times during our vacation. The food was very tasty and the portions were generous. On the last evening, the portion was very small. When we inquired, we were told that the fish had become more expensive and that the portion would also cost €2 more than stated on the menu. This would have been fine if the waiter had informed us of this before our meal and not simply added €2 to the bill. Even a complaint was of no use. Thus, a positive impression was unpleasantly ruined.

We stayed at the hotel with our little one for two nights in a superior room. It was a decent size, clean, and had a lovely view of the harbor with large windows and a balcony. The staff were consistently friendly and accommodating. The breakfast selection was absolutely sufficient and more than filling. There was a refrigerator and a TV in the room. The food was great, rather classic but, as I said, good. We had a short wait at the counter, but that was okay. We sat outside in the boat in January; the two gas heaters weren't enough; it was much too chilly for us and others. All in all, it's still worth a stop.

I really liked the Hotel Restaurant Seestern in Heiligenhafen. The location, right on the beach promenade and the harbor, is simply perfect—you're right on the water. The staff was super friendly, and the room was clean and comfortable, even if the decor was a bit dated. I particularly enjoyed the breakfast, which was served at your table, and the food in the restaurant—the fish dishes in particular were truly delicious. Overall, I found it very pleasant and would definitely come back.

The service was excellent – the waiter really went the extra mile! Despite our spontaneous request for eight people, we still managed to get a table without a reservation, which is a real positive. Unfortunately, the food wasn't convincing in terms of value for money. The fried potatoes were significantly too greasy, and the fish was unfortunately too dry. Additionally, we ordered two identical dishes, but initially only received fried potatoes once. However, upon request, the waiter quickly and friendly brought more – at no extra cost. Overall, a mixed impression: very good service, food could be improved.

A true gem in Heiligenhafen! The restaurant at the Hotel Seestern impressed us with its warm atmosphere, excellent cuisine, and exceptionally friendly service. You feel welcome from the moment you arrive – the staff is attentive, friendly, and at the same time pleasantly unobtrusive. Despite the full house, we were served quickly and were well looked after. A reservation is definitely recommended! The evening was a culinary hit: The Pannfisch (pan-fried fish) was outstanding – cooked to perfection, with a delicate sauce, and perfectly seasoned. You should also definitely try the house-brewed lager beer "Bugwelle" – drinkable, fresh, and a true highlight of North German cuisine. A restaurant that impresses with its attention to detail – both in the kitchen and in the service. We will definitely be back and recommend it without reservation!

About the restaurant: Friendly staff. Always on the ball, but not too pushy. At a fish restaurant, you have to eat fish. Here, the fish tastes like fish. Here, you'll be full.

(2019) Our server was sick...that wasn't great... Otherwise, the food was great and the atmosphere was nice. (2025) Our food was very tasty. But even though I had eaten at the market beforehand, I wasn't full after the fish menu. The portions were really small. Then the card payment didn't work either, and I had to get money. Inconvenient. (Personally, I found the restaurant too loud.) The service was very nice, though. And as I said, it was delicious.

The restaurant is located right on the harbor in Heiligenhafen. We've been vacationing there once a year for years and visiting the local restaurant. The food is always of very good quality and very tasty (today, Büsum crab soup and fried herring, redfish fillet). The staff are well-trained professionals. Everyone is very attentive and always friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I don't want to say anything more about the food and service. But when guests put their dog on a chair in the dining room and then let it sit at the table, that's all I can do.

Our absolute favorite restaurant in Heiligenhafen for many years, we have been there many times and have never had anything to complain about. Whether fish dishes or schnitzel, everything is delicious, the fish soup (Baltic Sea bouillabaise) is unbeatable and simply unbelievably good👌🏻the service is excellent, the guys and girls are very attentive and quick, the Seestern is highly recommended.

Litet, enkelt men bra, hotell. Rent och snyggt. Restaurangen mycket välbesökt, folk köade. Personalen mycket trevlig och tillmötesgående. Eftersom det var måndag tog vi inte fisk utan varsin schnitzel. Eftersom det var sparrissäsong fanns ett enormt utbud av sparris, alla med färskpotatis och annat. Frukosten var jättefin. Parkeringen var allmän och låg ca 100 meter bort.

Härligt ställe, mycket folk, de köades, jättetrevlig personal. Vi åt två olika schnitzlar, bra. Vi drack ett gott rödvin, ”Der kräftige rote”. Utomhus har de ett ”båtskrov” där vi satt. Fylldes på med nya gäster hela tiden. Toaletterna fräscha.

Rooms very antique but clean. Mold formation in the bathrooms could be combated. But I had problems sleeping at night, the background noise is quite annoying because of the draft noise. You keep thinking that the kitchen is directly below the room (on the 2nd floor) and that there is a lot of rioting going on there. The restaurant is highly recommended, delicious and reasonably priced. Our female waiter (around 30) was great, attentive, friendly and old school, just great!

Little food for a lot of money, the portions have become significantly smaller than a year ago. You will only feel full if you eat something at home afterwards.

On our last evening in Heiligenhafen we wanted to eat delicious fish. Since we didn't make a reservation, we had to wait 15 minutes, but it was definitely worth it. Our fish variations were super good and it was pretty quick, even though the fish was freshly prepared. The service was very nice and well organized. Overall, the restaurant is of course very attractive due to its location. We sat outside in the 'ship'.

The food was good, but especially in the case of the shrimp, the large portion of 8 shrimp for €25 was a disgrace. Selling this as a large portion without a note on the menu is cheeky.

Very tasty, traditional cuisine with a beautiful view of the harbor. We were here in March and it was already busy, but still pleasant for all guests. The waitresses were authentic and amusing and attentive. The store is definitely busy in the summer. The prices are very fair, almost too cheap compared to the other restaurants, which have increased significantly over the years. You don't have that here. As long as an additional charge goes into the pockets of the friendly waitresses, we personally wouldn't have had a problem with €2-5 more for dishes. We can highly recommend it.

We were completely thrilled with the restaurant and the food. The sailor's plate with four different fish fillets, crabs and mussels with fried potatoes (that don't drown in fat) is a poem for anyone who likes fish. The service was friendly and the atmosphere matched the theme. Rustic and unfussy is often better than these modern gourmet temples. However, one wonders where the drink prices should go from here. If you have to pay more than ¼ of the menu price for a wheat beer, I find it a bit steep. Normally I would like to order a second drink, but the price makes it impossible. The question is, how would you have made more sales? An expensive beer, or a little cheaper, but sold four instead of two...

I had the weekend January 31st. Have a very nice stay with the family in two beautiful rooms until 2/2/25. Everything went as previously agreed, as one party left early. Rooms, food, but above all the service was wonderful, personal, perfect. We can all only recommend this hotel, the restaurant and the surrounding area with 5 out of 5 stars. Gladly again! Wenn man in der Speisekarte mit Spezialität des Hauses wirbt sollte es lecker sein. Leider war das Labskaus das schlechteste das ich jemals gegessen habe. Die Gerichte meines Bruders und meiner Frau waren auch eher mäßig.

We ate in the restaurant. The service was very friendly. However, the food didn't convince me. Unfortunately, I didn't like the fried potatoes even after the salt tax was applied. Matjes was good, but very small and buried under arugula and onions. Potato salad okay. My husband had Labskaus, which he liked. Still, I would prefer other restaurants.
