Very nice and cosy place right in the centre of this happy little town, wonderful service and excellent food! Worth to see all time of the year, especially in winter when they have quite often "Schietwetter" - which is the local term for storm & rain.

Our review pertains to the restaurant. We had breakfast there and everything was delicious and beautifully presented. There was a good selection of rolls and cheeses, and our request to omit all meat products was met with extra portions of cheese and jam. The staff was very attentive, and the atmosphere was peaceful.

You receive a friendly welcome, the "devil" and bread with aioli are very tasty and I can highly recommend them.

Cozy restaurant, friendly staff and delicious food.

Booking and arrival were straightforward, and even the late check-in wasn't a problem. Hot meals were served, we received friendly service, and the food was delicious. The hotel is very centrally located; the rooms and bathroom are spacious and offer plenty of space for storing things. We also found the mini-fridge in the closet and the small capsule coffee machine practical, although we didn't use them. Due to the market square location, we had to keep the market-side windows closed at night because the church bells are incredibly loud. We would have liked to leave the bathroom door and the bathroom window open on the other side, but the bathroom mirror was broken and constantly flickering in bright white tones. Despite arriving on a Thursday, it wasn't repaired until the last evening, which wasn't pleasant and very disruptive to a good night's sleep. The beds were made up for the last night, which was rather unnecessary. What I liked least, however, were the towels. My cleaning rags at home look neater—I don't mean dirty, but rather that they looked like rags. Therefore, a few stars deducted.

A top-notch hotel with a very good restaurant. The staff is super friendly, warm, and accommodating; you immediately feel welcome. Our room was furnished to modern standards and very clean. The breakfast was also lovingly prepared—everything your heart desires, freshly prepared. All in all, a highly recommended place to stay!

I bought a fried herring roll here this afternoon. I got to choose the type of roll, and it was so lovingly prepared! On the delicious roll was an equally delicious fish, with even baby tomatoes on top. The whole thing was garnished with sprigs of dill and parsley, as well as onions! And the service was very friendly. All around, fantastic 👍

Very friendly and competent staff. The food was excellent. We were served at our table for breakfast. We were missing some hanging space for our coats in the room. The bed linens were changed every other day, and the bathroom was spacious and offered plenty of storage space. The bathroom had also been recently renovated.

When checking in, we had to mark on a slip of paper what we wanted for breakfast the next morning, including the time. The cost of breakfast (€15) was not included in the room rate. I've never experienced such a mediocre breakfast. We were served by an unfriendly and apparently not fully rested waitress who seemed to have hearing problems. After we had to wait about 15 minutes, there was nowhere near what we had asked for on the table. In conclusion, with a total price of €175 for a double room, including breakfast, this was a complete rip-off for us.

The food was delicious and clearly handmade and freshly prepared. At a very fair price. The roast beef is highly recommended. The staff is attentive and courteous. A compliment to the restaurant management. You immediately notice that someone here has absolute oversight, and you feel very professionally looked after. Thank you very much!

We spontaneously went there today and got a table outside. My first impression wasn't positive, as the employee who placed the menus on our table didn't even say "hello" or "good day." However, this impression was revised, as he was subsequently consistently friendly, attentive, and prompt. This was also noticeable in his interactions with other customers. The food (roast beef with fried potatoes) was truly delicious, freshly prepared, and served with homemade remoulade. A lady (the boss?) brought the food and was very attentive when we were full, asking if we enjoyed it and whether we wanted any leftovers packed up. Here, too, the great overview and the friendliness were very noticeable. The price is also absolutely reasonable. The quality was very good, the quantity was really plentiful, and the location is also worth mentioning. I'll remember this visit and repeat it when the opportunity arises.

We stayed at the Christian 4 for one night. We really enjoyed it; our luggage was carried to our room. The room itself was very nice and modernly furnished, as was the bathroom. Everything was very clean, the bed was very nicely made and clean. The staff was super friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious. Glückstadt is a cute little town!

We enjoyed delicious local herring in various styles. Reasonable prices. Outdoor seating with a view of the market square.

We spontaneously ate there today; highly recommended. I have to thank the super friendly and attentive service again; you don't see that very often these days. They had the ever-popular currywurst, which I can only recommend to any currywurst fan; it's simply delicious. The prices are absolutely reasonable for the portion sizes, and they also offer lunch for those on a budget. The seating is very comfortable by the market, and there's great parking. All in all, absolutely recommended. Keep up the good work. Always worth a visit, if only for the currywurst. We were with you again, as always, everything was excellent, thank you very much for the great food 🤗

The hotel's location is unique, right in the center. Unfortunately, there were a few drawbacks... the staff were clearly overwhelmed upon our arrival; after paying immediately, we had to search for our room. There were piles of dirty and smelly laundry on the stairs, so we had to shovel our way through. The room also smelled musty, and the ragged towels had seen better days. We found everything a bit dingy. The joy of a morning coffee in our room was dampened by the fact that the coffee capsules didn't even fit into the coffee machine in the room. In summary, the price-performance ratio was unfortunately not right for us. What a shame...

We've eaten here a few times. The breakfast is particularly delicious – it's very tasty and plentiful. Dinner was delicious every time. The prices are fair and the service is good. Comfortable seating is available both inside and outside.

We were there during Matjes Week. Despite the hustle and bustle, the atmosphere was elegant and the food was good, even after 9 p.m. Special praise goes to the service! Everyone was friendly and attentive. We've rarely seen such a good service team.

We finally managed to visit Jonas at his restaurant in Glückstadt am Markt. We really like Christian IV. The food (4 different herrings with delicious fried potatoes) was delicious. The beer 🍺 was cold, and the service and owner were attentive and friendly! Please excuse me for taking a photo of the main course too late 🫣 At least I thought of dessert. The outdoor area is well-kept and cozy. Highly recommended! We also took a look at one of the beautiful guest rooms. Wow, it's a great place to live 💐 We're already looking forward to our next visit.

We had lunch at Christian IV and we really enjoyed it. The service was very friendly, prompt, and very helpful. Special requests were accommodated, and the food was delicious and attractively served. The location is also great. Right on Glückstadt's market square. You can sit inside or outside on comfortable seating (under umbrellas and sheltered from the wind). It's fantastic. We stayed here for two nights with three people. We arrived late in the evening and had dinner there too. The food and service were excellent and very friendly and attentive. The prices are therefore justified. Breakfast costs 15 euros per person, which at first may seem a lot to some people but is normal and more than justified here. We were given a laminated sheet with the option to choose the breakfast items we wanted. The salmon is highly recommended for people who like that in the morning. As much coffee as you want, including orange juice, latte or cappuccino, you can order and it will be brought to your table fresh. Egg and bacon were also very 😋. Without anything else, the next day everything was as ordered. We had the suite with two bedrooms and a large bathroom. The only thing that was faulty was the socket by the mirror. Everything was clean, but there was a lot of dust in the numerous drawers and cupboards where the finish was missing. But otherwise everything was fresh and clean. Here and there it could do with a touch up of paint because white is beautiful but also delicate. There's also a bar in the living room with a refrigerator for drinks, etc., but you have to bring your own. There's a two-cup coffee machine in the room, as well as a hairdryer. Parking is free, but there's enough space for a maximum of five vehicles behind the building. We were always lucky. Despite the hustle and bustle on the market square directly in front of the hotel, there were no noises that would disturb our sleep. It also wasn't thinly soundproof, as other guests have complained about. All in all, a lovely stay, and we'd be happy to come back.

I have stayed at the Christian IV several times for work: beautiful, spacious rooms, large bathroom. Very tasty breakfast and the choice of food in the evening leaves nothing to be desired. Very attentive, friendly service, parking possible in the hotel parking lot.

So we stopped there for lunch at lunchtime. We chose northern German fish dishes and had to wait a bit, but it was worth it. The dishes were fresh and tasted very good. So a great price-performance ratio given today's conditions. The conditions were nice and accommodating. You also have a nice view of the market.

Both the hotel and the restaurant are truly fantastic. The value for money is really good. The room was very clean and modern. The shower had good pressure and was really warm, and the bed was comfortable and not broken. The food in the restaurant arrived very quickly and was delicious. The portions were adequately large and well-balanced.

We ate at Christian IV today and were very impressed. The schnitzel is awesome. Perfectly golden yellow souffled with thin breading and similar to an original Wiener Schnitzel, even though it was made from pork. I can only recommend it.

We were here for lunch today and stayed until coffee (including a short city tour). The dishes were very tasty and also plentiful. Outstanding service, the boss “lives” hospitality, that's why we'd love to come back!

We spontaneously stopped by yesterday for a kale meal. Our last visit to the restaurant was several years ago. We had a good, reasonably priced meal in a pleasant atmosphere. We only went for dinner, so I can't comment on the rooms. Located in a historic building is a modern restaurant with delicious food at relatively reasonable prices. But we especially liked the gentleman who served us. We've rarely seen such a nice and attentive person. Respect!

After I heard that there was smoking in the kitchen, I preferred to move my meal to my own living room, which is of course full of smoke. In addition, the boss there is an AfD voter, which as a communist I don't really like. In addition, during matjes week the drinks are sold black lol (the poor tax money), how do I know that, well according to the statement "We are no longer open the cash register and can only accept cash", and there is a very specific reason why you don't get a bill, Receipt roll empty? Or just a camouflage to make the poor even poorer? Since the cook was simply deported because of his political opinion, the food tastes too much like he made it himself, he is probably exploiting the underpaid people again!!!

The welcome was very caring and rarely as hard-working as here. The difficult times are behind the owners, but it's even nicer that the warmth has remained. The suite was furnished with a lot of passion and will certainly be constantly adapted. Even though we spent the hottest days of the year there, it was always pleasant at night without air conditioning (you just have to close the windows on the market square side during the day. The thick walls keep the heat out). The boss and all employees give everything for the guests. We would like to highlight Florian from Leipzig, who captivates the guests with his cheerfulness and attentiveness. Greetings to his American football playing brother. Please remind him of the first American football game in the GDR in Leipzig, which took place on March 3rd, 1990. Curly Mike was there. The chef deserves a star. To Tim I suggest the new format "Kitchen Impossible Blind" and then with the tasting of fennel with salted lemons. Llllldelicious!!! We would be happy to recommend you, the hotel testers FFUV.

The service was very courteous and you felt welcome straight from check-in. ***** The selection of dishes on the evening menu was varied and should offer something for every taste. The price-performance ratio was convincing. Any time! ***** Breakfast for hotel guests is put together the evening before. This is due to the small number of rooms. A buffet wouldn't be worth it. Of course you can reorder or vary the next morning. ***** The hotel room was very spacious and completely adequately equipped (refrigerator, hairdryer, coffee machine, large TV, safe, etc.) Apart from two or three little things, everything was to our satisfaction ****

I stayed at the hotel for three nights during a business trip. Rooms are good. The mattress was a bit sagging and the door is unfortunately not soundproof - meaning you can hear everything in the hallway. The restaurant is very good. Ate there on two evenings. Service was friendly and the food came super quickly. I have nothing to complain about.

Once again we were very satisfied. Extra requests were taken into account and the food came quite quickly. All the dishes were very tasty and the two children also got a little ice cream on the house at the end. Very accommodating.

Friendly and attentive staff are something you rarely find anymore, but at Christian IV we were very pleasantly surprised. The breakfast was great, the room was clean, the beds were a dream. Free parking where available. Thank you for the lovely stay and the room upgrade!

The tastiest fish roll in Glückstadt

We wanted to eat in the restaurant. After about 45 minutes we asked where our food was. Unfortunately, the kitchen didn't know anything about it. Afterwards a delicious salad arrived (on the house) and then the food came very quickly. After the meal, no one was available to pay for 30 minutes. Never again!

I've eaten there very often. It was mostly really good and the service too. The last meal I had was sirloin steak. I expected one piece as a whole. I got 3 small end pieces, totally full of sinew and impossible to enjoy. They were briefly fried and jumped off the plate almost alive. The skirt steak was ordered medium fried. I complained about my food. It was brought into the kitchen and given back after a short while. It was thrown into the deep fryer. An absolute no go. The fryer fat stuck to the tongue and lips. Just disgusting. It also smelled like chip fat. The plate was swimming with grease. I objected again. Then I was hit on pretty badly. That there is something wrong with the deep fryer. That a sirloin steak must be raw, otherwise it will be dry. I didn't want it well done, I wanted it medium. The chef probably can't do that. I didn't eat the food because the fried potatoes were also dripping with fat. Half of the salad was missing. What I found macabre was that I had to pay for the meal in full. Tiny end pieces, stringy, inedible and raw. The waiter got really cheeky when I told him that it would be the last time I ate there. The answer came, bad luck. You can't beat it when it comes to cheekiness

We spent the night in Glückstadt in our motorhome and had dinner here in the evening. It was great! The food was delicious, of course we had matjes (with crispy fried potatoes 🤌), the service was attentive and it was great to sit on the terrace. We loved it so much that we had breakfast there the next morning, this time inside because it was raining. Here too, the service is good, the breakfast is delicious and the ambience is also very appealing. We'd love to come back!

We were there for the herring days and chose this restaurant, and I have to say it wasn't a mistake. You can sit inside or outside as you like... The food was just great, a little more expensive, but recommended. The staff was in action, probably a bit understaffed, but no wonder in these days. Nevertheless, they did their work professionally, friendly and well, despite the large crowds, so high praise from us.

Matjes days also with schnitzel, delicious food

We were there as a large group because we were celebrating a bachelorette party. We were warmly welcomed at the entrance, had a huge handcart with us and were able to get in with all of our luggage without any problems. Jonas, the manager of the shop, served us really well and always wanted to talk to us to see if there was anything wrong. We all felt comfortable and we all thought the food was delicious! Visit this restaurant guys 😇❤️

We had a delicious meal there on a Saturday evening. The service was very friendly, attentive and quick. The wait until our food came was also totally reasonable. The food was fresh, tasty and beautifully presented. The rooms are modern and comfortably furnished and very clean (including toilets). At the end we were offered an aperitif, which was on the house. A nice gesture that is no longer common everywhere, and we particularly liked the fact that we could choose an espresso instead of an aperitif, which my husband as driver was happy to accept. We would definitely come back if we came to Glückstadt again.
