We were only here for dinner, but it was excellent. The schnitzel was huge and delicious.

We were completely satisfied! The food was fresh, lovingly prepared, and delicious. The salad was colorful, crisp, and perfectly balanced—with fresh fruit, herbs, and a delicate sauce that brought everything together wonderfully. The warm dish was also truly hearty: crispy fried potatoes, seasoned meat, and a delicious sauce. The portions are generous, the ingredients taste of quality, and you can tell the heart is put into the cooking here. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was cozy and relaxed—just right for a relaxing evening. We'll definitely be back!

Nice service, great atmosphere, but we were rather disappointed with the food. The "garden vegetables" in the pasta were simply frozen buttered vegetables, and the schnitzel was also frozen. The salad was delicious. However, the menu is a bit misleading and not immediately clear that the side dishes come on top.

The food arrived quickly, a little suspiciously quickly. The goulash was tasty, but lukewarm. The red cabbage was sweetened with honey, a bit too much. The schnitzel was OK, but the mushrooms on top were unfortunately not fresh, and neither was the sauce. The service was friendly, although at every table they emphasized that the side salads were dressed with homemade honey and mustard dressing. Oh well. Overall, it was OK. The menu wasn't very creative, but we went anyway. However, the taste wasn't what you'd expect for the price. They definitely made an effort with the ambiance.

The food was delicious and the portions were generous. We didn't have a reservation and were lucky that one of our reservations didn't show up. Special mention goes to the friendly waiter, who, despite the restaurant being full, always kept the situation under control. We would definitely come back and recommend the restaurant without reservation.

We stopped by today spontaneously for a bite to eat. We were lucky; there was a free table outside. The waiter saw us right away and greeted us attentively and warmly. The food came super quickly and was truly delicious. It was a lot of fun with the two of them. At the end, the waitress even had a drink with us. Because it was so nice and fun, we immediately reserved a table for tomorrow. We'd love to eat there more often, but unfortunately, tomorrow is our last day of vacation :( Edit: The next evening was great again 👌 Shoutout to Denno for the great service and to Marcel for the delicious food 💪

Absolutely unfriendly staff. We had hiked 24km and spontaneously asked for a table. Instead of a simple no, we were treated like idiots and asked why we couldn't make a reservation. The food looks delicious, but I can't comment on the taste, of course.

We just ate there this week and thought it was absolutely delicious. We can highly recommend it. Even the service was first-class, and we wished we could take the chef with us to the Baltic Sea. Please stay as you are, and if we're in the area again, we'll definitely be back.

We had dinner at the Gasthaus zum Holzfäller on the last evening of our vacation. It's important to make a reservation in advance, as it's difficult to get a table on the spur of the moment. However, you'll be pleasantly surprised. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was plentiful and delicious; we would have liked more if we hadn't already been full. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to experience something tasty.

We ordered food for pickup from the "Gaststätte zum Holzfäller" today by phone and were completely satisfied! The service was very friendly and efficient. The order was ready for pickup in 10-15 minutes, as promised. We opted for the venison goulash and the baked potato. Both dishes were delicious! The venison goulash was packaged separately from the fried potatoes, which further underscored the quality of the food. The large salad with a delicious dressing was a great addition. The portions were generous, and the meal was a delight overall. The value for money is excellent. We can wholeheartedly recommend the restaurant and will gladly return!

Small, rustically furnished restaurant in the heart of Schierke. In addition to a regular menu, daily or seasonal dishes are also offered for a short time. We have been going there for many years and we always like it. Parking spaces are available in the nearby area. If you want to be sure of a table, a reservation is recommended

I can't rate the room, but the food was delicious!!! Very nice service, moved us to a comfortable table, then paid close attention to all special requests and was always there to ask if everything was right. Especially the delicious schnitzel, the game goulash and the pancakes along with hazelnut schnapps are highly recommended!!! We'll be back, just because of the rustic wood atmosphere, which you can hardly find anymore. Keep it up!

Friendliness is very important in this restaurant! The entire team is not only extremely attentive, but also fun to have - a rare combination that makes the visit a special experience. The food was fantastic and absolutely worth the price. I had the venison medallions, which tasted excellent. Although they were thinner steaks rather than classic medallions, which made them a little firmer to the bite, that's just a minor issue that could easily be solved by calling them flank steak on the menu. I was particularly impressed by the sauce - simply perfectly balanced - and the dumplings, which were a real highlight with their nutty taste. I would choose this dish again at any time! All in all: 5 more than deserved stars! It's hard to imagine that it could get any better. A big compliment to the entire team for this great achievement!🫶

Went for dinner with my family. The food and service was nice. Unfortunately, the waitress had a mishap and the salad plate landed on my wife's back. Can happen. Everything would be sorted out in a makeshift manner. Unfortunately, not a word of apology was given until the end. A word about making good (cleaning) was also mentioned. I have to say that you are welcome as a paying guest, but mishaps are tolerated with arrogance.

Simply perfect to fortify yourself for the hiking tour with a wonderful breakfast. After the tour you can relax and recharge your batteries in perfectly, wonderfully furnished rooms. The in-house restaurant is also perfect, where you never leave hungry. What also MUST be emphasized is that the entire staff is wonderful/warm/give tips for tours. Unfortunately only 5 stars are possible. 10 would be appropriate

A quaint, cozy, and clean restaurant. Lovingly run, the staff were so welcoming that you couldn't feel the Christmas rush. Thank you for a wonderful evening, for the excellent service, and for the wonderful food. All of our youngest's questions were answered kindly, and our requests were catered to. The meat was so tender and perfectly cooked. The recommended dessert (baked apple) was a real treat, a feast for the senses with the flambéing. It won't be our last visit. We highly recommend the woodcutter and his team.

The ambiance and service were really good. The food is lacking. A huge plate is placed in front of you, but you have to beg for side dishes like potatoes and red cabbage. Because they were completely forgotten. The menu is pretty meager for a place like Schierke in the Harz Mountains. Standard, boring, and just plain. Any village pub can do better.

We managed to get a table for Friday evening at very short notice. The restaurant may be very small, but it's super quaint. The food was incredibly delicious and plentiful. The waitress at our table was the icing on the cake for the evening. We had a lot of fun with her, even after I made fun of her a bit (Thuringian Rostbrätl). We have just returned from our weekend trip and have booked again for next year. The Lumberjack is a beautiful little hotel, the staff in the evenings are friendly and attentive despite the hut being full. The restaurant is rustic and furnished with great attention to detail, the food was great. Our double room was perfect for a weekend: small but nice and clean. The Wi-Fi reception in the room wasn't that good, but that could perhaps be improved. We look forward to 2025. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to everyone.

Unfortunately, I have to give this place only one star. The reason for this is that, despite having reserved a table and agreeing that there were only two of us, we weren't given a seat in the restaurant. Instead, we were seated, quote: "at the back." We were asked to sit with two complete strangers who had already filled the table with their food. WHAT A PITY!

Today we went out to eat again at the Lumberjack, with a reservation. The greeting, a bit bumpy and friendly, is different. To my surprise, the food arrived after 10 minutes, fried potatoes with schnitzel and spicy meat gratinated. How does it work? The restaurant was full. My wife only took sausage meat at the hefty price of €8.90 for a small bowl. No eye contact when paying or have a nice evening.,,,,Everything like the times before,, What a shame! There was a mouse in the bed that must have been there for a long time. In addition, an outrageously unfriendly employee on the day of departure. After I wrote this review on Booking.com, I received a phone call from the owner late in the evening and was threatened with a lawyer. Therefore now again on Google with photos.

We wanted to drink coffee after the Brocken hike. Among other things, there was cheesecake with eggnog and fruit for €6.90. We just wanted the cheesecake. It was served to us. The bill said €6.90 for a piece of cheesecake!!! When we asked, we were told "What should I deduct?". Maybe it was our mistake to ask for the price without any side dishes before ordering.

We went there for dinner, based on a recommendation 😊 That was a blast, record suspiciously fast and friendly service. And a mega schnitzel 😁 Thank you so much that we got a place despite the wrong reservation 😉

We booked a room in the hotel for two nights. The room was great - very nicely decorated, clean and tidy. The hotel staff was also friendly. We felt very comfortable! Unfortunately, the only thing that caused a bit of a problem for us was the WiFi because the connection wasn't particularly good. We would still recommend the hotel and would be happy to come back.

We were there for 3 days a week to hike and relax. Super Service. Clean rooms, delicious food and the breakfast was really tasty and plentiful for 15 euros per person. Price for accommodation was great. Friendly staff . Great environment for hiking on the Brocken. We'll definitely be back 🙂🙂

We are weekend vacationers from Bautzen and found this restaurant through reviews. With 6 people, we received a friendly welcome shortly before 8 p.m. and the food was simply great for everyone. The portions were large and prepared fresh, tasty and visually great. I can recommend this restaurant to any tourist traveling along the Brocken. The prices around €20 are absolutely justified. Keep it up.

Spontan sind wir an einem Wochenende nach Schierke gefahren und waren zum Abendessen im "Zum Holzfäller". Reservierung wird in jedem Fall empfohlen. Sehr freundliche Bedienung, sehr leckeres Essen, keine lange Wartezeit, insgesamt top.

Essen war top! Die Nachspeise war ein Gedicht. Preislich etwas höher, aber wirklich sein Geld wert.

Wir waren in Schierke im Restaurant Holzfäller und begeistert von der Küche, dem gemütlichen Ambiente und von netten Service.

Das Essen war gut, aber das man die Beilagen seperat bestellen muß hat gestört. Zumal sich das dann mit den Beilagen im oberen Preissegment bewegt. Das wird leicht übersehen.

Hungrig von einer großen Wanderung kehrten wir noch Zum Holzfäller ein. Ein kleines gemütliches Restaurant mit fairen Preisen. Anfänglich mussten wir etwas zu lange warten, bis uns die Speisekarten gereicht wurden. Essen war top. Für einen gemütlichen Tagesausklang in Schierke empfehlenswert.

Wir waren für 2 Übernachtungen vor Ort. Einfach aber sauber. Beim Bad bin ich im allgemeinen ein wenig pingelig... hier gab es absolut nix zu beanstanden 😎 Ich hatte an beiden Tagen Schnitzel und die waren sehr lecker und auch die Bratkartoffeln waren lecker. Meine Freundin hatte einmal die Forelle und auch die war sehr gut. Der Schokotraum mit flüssigem Kern und Vanilleeis war tatsächlich ein Traum. Lecker dunkles Bier vom Fass... und ein oder zwei Feuersteine hinterher... Dazu kam dann noch ein Top Service 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Wir werden auf alle Fälle wiederkommen.

Wir waren ein Wochenende in Schierke. Das Hotel ist super! Sehr sauber, sehr groß und geräumig das Apartment. Super lieber Empfang. Wir können das Hotel nur empfehlen. Wenn man im Restaurant essen möchte, sollte man vorher reservieren. Uns wurde angeboten das unser Wunschessen auch auf unser Zimmer gebracht werden könnte. Wenn wir wieder eine Auszeit im Harz brauchen, werden wir wieder versuchen hier unter zu kommen.

Wir haben hier zu 9 Personen ein Abendessen eingenommen. Der Service war absolute Klasse, die Qualität der Speisen war fantastisch.

Nur Gaststätte besucht: Essen gut, deutsche Küche mit traditionellen Gerichten. Bedienung zuvorkommend und zügig. Ambiente rustikal und gemütlich.

Wir waren nur in der Gaststätte "Zum Holzfäller" und es war Mega! Normale Preise, sehr schnelle und humorvolle Bedienung, sehr leckeres Essen und angenehmes Ambiente. An der Hauptstraße gelegen und daher leicht zu finden. Wir kommen alle gerne wieder!!!

Ein kleines gemütliches Restaurant mit sehr freundlichen Personal. Eine sehr gute Auswahl an Gerichten die auch super lecker sind. Es gibt einen kleinen Salat zu den Gerichten vorneweg. Sehr schön fanden wir auch, das man zu den Gerichten die Beilage selber aussuchen kann. Es gibt keine Vorgabe, hat man auch selten. Da dort auch die Hotelgäste essen gehen und die Nachfrage groß ist empfehle ich einen Tisch zu reservieren. Hinweis vom 09.10.23 - Dienstag und Mittwoch ist im Restaurant Ruhetag!

Das Gasthaus ist unglaublich empfehlenswert. Es ist gemütlich und urig modern. Die Bedienung ist zügig und freundlich, zu vorkommend. Das Essen ist typisch Harzerisch extrem lecker. Gerade das Eisbein ist der absolute Wahnsinn.

Sind nach der Brocken Rundwanderung hier eingekehrt. Es war von außen sehr einladend. Zum Glück war das Wetter für den Biergarten geeignet. Das Kaffetrinken war so lecker was wir hatten. Und die Karte für Herzhaftes bzw. Abendessen lass dich auch gut.

Wir waren hier gestern essen. Das Essen war super. Die Portionen waren echt groß. Und die Bilder hier geben nicht wieder, wie gemütlich und muckelig es in Wirklichkeit ist. Eine 10 von 10!

Wir waren nur in der Gaststätte. Super leckeres und selbstgekochtes Essen zu einem fairen Preis. Wir hatten beide Schnitzel und waren sehr zufrieden mit unserem Essen. Wenn wir wiedermal in Schierke sind, würden wir wiederkommen.

Wir waren dort essen, da in Schierke am Montag Abend alle anderen Gaststätten geschlossen hatten. Als wir hinein gingen, wurde uns gesagt, drinnen wären keine Tische mehr frei. Als wir dann sagten, wir würden dann einfach später wiederkommen, sagte uns eine Kellnerin, die Küche würde in 10 Minuten schließen. Glücklicherweise ergab sich genau in diesem Moment die Möglichkeit, doch dort zu essen, weil dann doch ein Tisch frei wurde. Wir wurden zügig und freundlich bedient, auch über Küchenschluss mit Essen versorgt. Insgesamt waren wir sehr zufrieden, da das Essen angenehm gewürzt war und Preis-Leistung auch gut war. Die Einrichtung war gemütlich und es machte insgesamt einen herzlichen Eindruck.
