A truly successful concept from start to finish. The service was friendly and very competent, and we were also absolutely captivated by the quaint half-timbered house! But now for the most important part: the food was truly unbelievably delicious! Good German cuisine with sophisticated dishes – the venison stew was fantastic, as were the rump steaks with homemade herb butter. I can only give it my highest praise, because it's not a given that a group of 12 people all have nothing to complain about! Our plates were all swept clean. Oh, and the beautiful live music was the icing on the cake of this lovely evening. Thank you so much!!

Our evening at the Alte Bauernschänke was truly a success all around. A rustic, cozy restaurant with all sorts of interesting things to look at. The service was truly friendly, good, and unobtrusive, and the food and wine were incredibly good. Everything was beautifully presented. The meat was cooked to perfection, and the sauce was delicious. The salad was also very good. We particularly enjoyed the herb oil with ciabatta as a starter and the wonderfully mild white wine. We stumbled upon this place by chance and would definitely come back.

What started as us heading out to try some great regional wines in the sleepy little Rhine Valley towns, many of which were closed on our visit. When it came time for lunch, our friends suggested we head to Alte Bauernschenke in Assmannshausen, a beautifully preserved village along the Rhine. This is a beautiful old space, with a unique façade and flower boxes spilling with geraniums. Inside, there is some beautiful woodwork, artefacts and images. It is a warm inviting space. It was a nice day, so we sat outside overlooking the town from a unique vantage point. The menu is regional, the kind of hearty fare you want to have with a local beer, or a glass of Riesling. We started, naturally, with Riesling - crisp and minerally, and some lagers. One of our American dining companions put a little salt in their beer when it arrived, which made it bubble, they claimed they liked how it changed the taste, and that it is common where they are from to do it. It was an interesting experiment to witness. We started with aRieslingsuppe, a light soup made with wine, we thought was worth a try. We also ordered by a Vesperbrett, a platter of cold cuts, cheese, bread, and pickles, which we enjoyed sharing with our table. It was here we had our first Flammkuchen Speck - which was described to us as sort of like a pizza, on a thin, crisp dough, the sauce base is usually a mix of creme fraîche and fromage blanc, then it is topped off with smoky bacon and onions. I say our first as we had several after this on our trip, our local friends told us “when you don’t know what you feel like, grab a Flammkuchen” - and this became our mantra. The Schweinebraten was pure comfort - a good traditional style roast pork dish. The Hähnchenschnitzel with mushroom sauce was great. Chicken Schnitzel is something most pubs in Australia do well, and something we cook like we invented it - but it was great to grab one while we were here. The service was friendly, and the food came quickly. Alte Bauernschenke was a place we went to, because our friends knew it would be open. But I’m really glad we found it, the region is famous for its wine and beautiful landscapes. If you’re stopping by, even if other places are open, you could do a lot worse than passing a few hours enjoying some solid regional cooking, a glass or two of Riesling, and the welcoming, beautiful timbered walls of a centuries-old inn.

Highly recommended. If you haven't been there yet, it's a must....

Good food, good wine and very friendly service.

A truly wonderful place on the Rhine. Assmannshausen is full of charm and history, and the old farmer's tavern is truly a centerpiece. There's a pleasant atmosphere with room for the whole family, and the staff are courteous and genuinely enjoy their work. I was there with my wedding party, and the Berg family gave us a wonderful day. Communication was courteous, helpful, and they supported us just the way we wanted. The food was fantastic and varied. There was a vegetarian option, regional home-style cooking, and incredibly good wine. I highly recommend it, and it's worth a visit anytime.

We spent a long weekend there with a total of 12 people in 6 rooms. Not all of the rooms have been renovated yet, but most are furnished to a very high standard. A very old, historic house, beautifully decorated. A family-run business with heart and love for the property and hospitality. The entire family and staff are incredibly accommodating and friendly. Unfortunately, the dinner is very expensive. While it is high quality, it was lukewarm or cold by the time it arrived at the table. The hotel's own wines are very good, and the wine tasting offered by the owner was interesting and entertaining.

Although several four-person tables were available on the terrace, the waitress directed us to an unpleasant two-person table. This was the first time in many years that this had happened. When we told the waitress that we didn't like the table and wanted to leave, she said, "So be it."

We stayed at the hotel with colleagues in May for a multi-day training course. The reception and on-site support were impeccable, very friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious, and even requests for changes were no problem. The staff was very attentive, both at breakfast and at the other meals, and left nothing to be desired during our stay. The training room was equipped with everything we needed. Everyone also felt very comfortable in the clean and comfortable rooms. We would be happy to come back.

Excellent service and very attentive staff. Pasta was sensational, but the trout was unfortunately a bit dry. For this reason, combined with the price structure, we're deducting one star from the overall rating. We'll be happy to come back, even if we don't order fish 😉

The food was excellent, and the rooms were very clean and comfortable. The staff was also very friendly and attentive. There's a dedicated storage room for bicycles. We'd be happy to come back.

It's cozy, the trainees are very attentive and very friendly, something that's very rare these days. All the best for the future and always nice guests. We were a tour group from Baden-Württemberg.

Very nice, historic restaurant with good food and friendly service. When we were there there was also a live music duo there and he could really play the guitar and she had a great voice. Very nice evening.

Although we are enthusiastic Rheingau holidaymakers, we visited this traditional restaurant for the first time. Right at the entrance we were warmly greeted by a young waiter and then served very courteously. Thanks! The atmosphere of the restaurant is cozy and very well maintained. The menu is regionally oriented. We chose wild brawn. A good choice. The Alte Bauernschänke is also a hotel. Judging by the photos, we would consider staying if we weren't regular guests at the excellent Niederwald hunting lodge...

Hotel with charm, cozy. Nevertheless, I wouldn't stay there again, if a hotel has an elevator you assume that all rooms can be reached without climbing stairs. That wasn't the case, and our rooms only had a bathtub. Equipped with a shower whose entry was about 50cm high. The rooms were clean but getting old, the beds were very deep and not very comfortable for us, but that might be because we are older.

The food and service were good.

We were in Assmannshausen for a short visit. We will definitely come back. The rooms were first class, as was the bathroom. Big and modern. We had a very good meal in the restaurant. This also calls for repetition.

The hotel does not appear to have changed. It is located on the banks of the Rhine between Wiesbaden and Koblenz. I stayed there for more than 30 years. Magnificent architecture typical of the region. Interior frame too. Very good food. I recommend it.

The ambience was nice, but that's no use if the food doesn't taste good. The schnitzel tasted like old oil. I think the oil in the pan is used for a very long time. Too bad

We were there with 7 people and would have liked to order dessert, but his unfriendliness made us no longer want to stay.

A seriously disappointing experience. From the very beginning the server did not make us comfortable in any way, he was rude and disrespectful towards other tenants as well. The food was okay, the schnitzel disappointing, the linguine delicious. I would never come back again though, especially if the same person serves us again. I don't understand why you would be like this to people that dine at your restaurant. What a sad guy.

Spontaneously stopped in with a larger group and was very well entertained despite the unusual lunch time. We had nice weather and were able to sit outside, although there was hardly any traffic despite the main road. Rustic interior. Clean sanitary area. However, that was on a Monday.

Highly Recommended! Fantastic roast goose but also delicious, creative vegetarian alternatives and good wines. There are even gluten-free dishes and bread and lactose-free alternatives! The reference to gluten intolerance often leads to perplexity in the Rheingau. Very attentive service!

Wir haben nur im Biergarten ein Bier nach unserer Wanderung trinken wollen. Haben dann aber auch gegessen und es nicht bereut.

Hübsches Ambiente, drinnen wie draussen Service leider unfreundlich. Wir haben lediglich etwas getrunken, das war wohl nicht erwünscht, obwohl die Getränkerechnung für 2 Pers € 20 ausgemacht hat.

Absolut empfehlenswert. Wir haben da Ziegenkäse und Flammkuchen vegetarisch bestellt. Das war einfach wow! Personal war auch sehr freundlich. Wenn wir irgendwann wieder in Assmannshausen sind, kommen wir auf jeden Fall vorbei.

Das Haus bzw. die Häuser sind z.T. ein wenig in die Jahre gekommen, aber mit sehr viel Charme; an vielen Stellen erneuert und modernisiert. Sehr nette Hotelierfamilie, bei der alle selbst mit anpacken. Nettes Personal insgesamt. Umfangreiches Frühstücksbuffet, bei dem man selbst zum Ende der Frühstückszeit hin noch alles vorfindet. Leckere Gerichte auf der Speisekarte des Restaurants auch Menüs mit 3 oder 4 Gängen sind erhältlich. Das Restaurant ist urig und trotz alter Möbel und etwas wenig Licht gemütlich. Es befindet sich auf mehreren Ebenen, sodass es selbst bei voller Auslastung nicht überlaufen wirkt. Massagen im Wellnessbereich sind professionell und sehr entspannend. Im Saunabereich sind allerdings ein paar Reparaturen nötig, z.B. lockere Bretter in der finnischen Sauna und üble Abwassergerüche in der Damenumkleide. Die Lage des Hotels in Assmannshausen ist gut als Ausgangspunkt für Wanderungen. Auch gute Verkehrsanbindung mit Schiff, Bus und Bahn. Die Gastronomie um das Hotel herum ist jedoch -zumindest werktags- fast"tot". Insgesamt waren wir aber sehr zufrieden und werden wiederkommen.

Wir haben hier ein kurzes Wein-Päuschen gemacht auf unserer Junggesellinnenabschieds Tour, wir Mädels wurden herzlich empfangen und der sehr nette Kellner Marian machte mit uns Späße. Sehr toller, kurzer Aufenthalt war das hier. Vielen herzlichen Dank!

Nettes Lokal in der Innenstadt. Wir kamen hier vorbei, nach dem wir mit dem Sessellift nach Assmannshausen gefahren waren und habe eine Kleinigkeit gegessen. Es war nicht viel los und wir wurden freundlich und zügig bedient. Der gebeizte Lachs hat gut geschmeckt. Den Preis haben wir allerdings als etwas hoch empfunden.

Fantastische plek voor een drankje en /of diner. Leuk,deskundig en uitermate grappig personeel, die voor een gezellige sfeer zorgen.

Was man hier aufgetischt bekommt, entspricht exakt den Vorstellungen, die man hat, wenn man vorher die üppigen Preise sieht. Super Qualität beim Essen. Absolut lecker. Tolles Ambiente und sehr aufmerksames Personal.

Wir hatten Forelle - selten so lecker wie hier und Schnitzel mit Pommes. Letzteres eigentlich einfach sollte man meinen, aber trotzdem selten gut!

Charming small hotel where every room has its own character. We stayed in a family maisonette room which was very comfortable with creaking floors and a beautiful balcony. No need for an alarm clock since the church bells will wake you up at 7 o'clock. Hotel breakfast offering was generand tasty. We haven't had a chance the visit the wellness, but we do plan to come back for another weekend getaway in this beautiful and romantic area and check it out. Recommend tontake a walk on wine hills, take a boat tour on the Rhine, visit neighboring castles, Lorelei or Germania in Rüdesheim. Do not miss great wine and excellent food in the Hotel restaurant.

Restaurant was great. It was a quite evening, not many clients. We had a dorade which was amazing. The wine among the best riesling we ever had (we had the "myway", plus a sweeter one). Dessert also was delicious. Recommended.
