To follow the rule of communication, we don't want to add any "buts." Indeed, choosing the tables (without sets or slate plates, etc.) for your chosen cutlery is a real challenge. Secondly, one can naturally assume that in a restaurant whose building is covered in scaffolding, opposite the Landwehr Canal, a few city rats will be leisurely strolling in the garden. Nevertheless, your service was very attentive, your food outstanding, and the ivy surrounding your outdoor area creates a veritable oasis. We were enchanted by the cuisine and service throughout the entire evening and thoroughly enjoyed the evening full of flavor explosions and humor, excellent wine advice, and a magical atmosphere. Overall, we drove home absolutely happy and fondly remember this beautiful evening, which you made a wonderful experience for us.

If you crave the interesting edge post-war Berlin has to offer, this restaurant is a sure representation of its best. The interior design and staff are all put together masterfully and the experience is like none other; it has an exceptionally beautiful setting with vintage decor and open kitchen. The food is like a breath of fresh air. I have never experienced truly curated vegetarian-inspired cuisine let alone one with 2 Michelin stars but each dish has a captivating story and you really get to appreciate the fresh produce which normally plays supporting roles in meat dishes. Worth a detour and experience. Thanks to the accommodating staff and interesting wine list.

Absolutely outstanding experience at Horváth! ⭐⭐ The atmosphere is cozy and elegant, with a very unique vibe that makes the evening feel special right from the start. The vegetarian menu was one of the best I’ve ever had—creative, flavorful, and really different from anything else in Berlin. What was meant to be a four-course menu turned into a generous seven courses, with smaller and bigger plates plus sides. The portions were surprisingly generous for fine dining, and every single dish was beautifully balanced. Sebastian and the whole team were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even more enjoyable. You can really feel the passion and care they put into both the food and the service. If you’re looking for a truly unique two Michelin-star experience in Berlin, especially as a vegetarian, Horváth is an absolute must. 🌿🍷

We visited this wonderful restaurant at the beginning of January 2025. We neglected to write a review immediately after our visit. However, we've noticed that the evening at Horvath is still so often discussed and so fondly remembered that we absolutely want to revisit it today. We were there with our ten-year-old son, and it was simply fantastic from start to finish. The service was unfussy and cool, the ambiance both elegant and relaxed. And the food: a delight for all the senses. To top it all off, Sebastian Frank personally inscribed his latest cookbook with his name on it as a farewell gift to our son. It was an absolutely wonderful evening. We thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely return from Cologne again. It's worth every trip. Thank you very much, and stay as you are. Our son would like to add: "We recommend everyone to eat there!"

A pleasant spot right on the Landwehr Canal. The restaurant has a lovely terrace. Excellent, attentive, and friendly service. Information about each course is provided, even via small menus. All courses were innovative and very attractively presented. I sometimes found the portions a bit small, but that's just a personal preference. The flavors were generally very finely balanced; only the main course, I found, had a slightly overly bacony flavor. The craftsmanship was fine; this is a personal assessment, as I hardly eat pork. An excellent Pinot Blanc accompanied the first courses perfectly, but didn't go well with the main course. I should have followed the waiter's recommendation here. The price was just within reason, but it's trending toward a price range that would lead one to expect even higher ratings. Overall, a solid experience, and I would recommend Horvath to others and would happily go back myself sometime.

Kreuzberg  - ein kleiner Eingang an dem das freundlich unaufgeregt zuvorkommende Servicepersonal uns erwartete und uns in das kleine, langgestreckte Restaurant geleitete. Und dann begann das für uns Neue: Gemüseküche in allen Facetten - teils noch als solches zu erkennen, oft jedoch von Konsistenz, Aussehen und Geschmack deutlich verändert mit Anklängen ans molekulare. Freundlich kenntnisreich alle im Restaurant und der Küche Mitarbeitenden. Eines einte alle Gerichte - intensive Aromatik perfekt à point zubereitet. Wer hätte gedacht, dass die Fois gras einen ernsthaften Konkurenten bekommt!! Himmlisch auch die Präsentation und Anrichtung der Speisen. Die Erklärung der Gänge oft durch den Patron selbst. Und dazu wählten wir eine alkoholfreie Begleitung, die den Alkohol nicht vermissen ließ - auch hier ein perfektes Zusammenspiel verschiedenster Aromen und Gewürze, die alle einen aufwendigen Herstelllungsprozess genossen haben um aus dem Grundprodukt das zu fabrizieren, was dann schließlich im Glas vor uns stand. Alles in Allem: überraschend - aufregend und unbedingt wiederholungsbedürftig! Und noch eines: hier erlebten wir auch wie vielfältig und köstlich Sellerie oder wie österreichische Küche des Horváth ihn netter nennt: Zeller sein kann. Und zum Abschied "habe die Ehre" vom Patron! Herrlich!

A very well-rounded experience in a beautiful atmosphere. The restaurant or dining room looks cozy with its wooden panels. The service, including from the boss himself, was personal and calm. We had the "quick and dirty" menu and the celery signature dish. Everything was simply delicious and the background stories behind the individual plates rounded off the whole experience nicely. Natürlich gibt es im Horvath nicht nur Sellerie, aber er hat unverkennbar einen ganz besonderen Stellenwert, so dass man sich das (zum Menü dazu kombinierbare) Signature-Gericht "Sellerie reif und jung" auf keinen Fall entgehen lassen sollte. Aber der Reihe nach: Wir waren noch im ("trockenen") Januar zum ersten Mal im Horvath und haben dort einen wirklich großartigen Abend verbracht. Zunächst hatten wir aus unsere Sicht durch Zufall den schönsten Platz direkt vor der Scheiben der Küche, so dass wir immer die Präzision und Entspanntheit des Küchenteams bei den einzelnen Arbeitsschritten sehen konnten. Auch wurden einige Gerichte direkt vom Küchenteam gebracht und erläutert. Überhaupt der Service: Der war an unserem Abend ganz hervorragend. Entspannt, freundlich und locker aber dabei hochprofessionell und präzise. Das Essen ist außergewöhnlich: Die Aromen, die Sebastian Frank aus Gemüse - alleine oder im Zusammenspiel - "herausholt", sind grandios. Zum Teil liegt dabei Überraschung in der (äußerlichen) Einfachheit wie bei der Maronencremesuppe, dem "ersten Stich" oder dem gebackenen Sellerie (was für ein "Sellerieschnitzel" ;-)) und dann wieder in einer grandiosen, komplexen Überraschung wie der Pilzleber, bei der ich immer noch sprachlos bin, wie nah man mit Gemüse an eine foie kommen kann, grandios - nicht nur für die Gänse! Zur Weinauswahl kann ich nichts sagen, da wir uns im "dry January" an die alkoholfreie Variante gehalten haben. Die ist teileweise eben so kunstvoll, wie das Essen, manchmal dann aber doch etwas "speziell": der "Sellerie-Essig" oder das Tomatenwasser mit schwarzem Knoblauch (puh) verlangen dem Gast schon einiges ab. Aber da sind wir ja selber schuld, hätten ja auch eine Woche später im Februar kommen können :-); der Abend war ja außerdem auch ohne Wein ein Erlebnis.

Unfortunately it wasn't a 2-star restaurant - we were really looking forward to it and were overall disappointed. The reasons were varied: The service was inattentive and didn't take our menu requests into account, so I got the wrong dessert. Excuse me? None! We weren't entirely sure about the choice of drink accompaniment and would have needed some advice. But we didn't get that - instead we were put under non-verbal pressure. We were also disappointed with the food - no wow moment and there was a hair on the bread in one course. That shouldn't happen, not with a menu costing over two hundred euros. And I don't understand why the light above the table doesn't shine centered downwards, but only on one side. When asked, they said the problem was known but couldn't be solved quickly. Well, judging by the photos, the light has been like this for a few years. There is no recommendation from me. The ambience is nice, but the rest is just not right. You should question the whole concept here and also train the service better.

We dined at Horvath with friends last year and I have to say it was the best restaurant experience I've ever had. We love fine dining and have enjoyed one or two star restaurants, but none were like Horvath. The "food" (actually the word isn't good enough) was exceptional, surprising and well thought out, the sommelier was super nice, relaxed and had put together the perfect accompaniment for us (a mix of wine, alcoholic and non-alcoholic mixed drinks). But above all I would like to emphasize the service and the loving nature of the entire team, we have never experienced anything like this before. Everyone was extremely attentive and loving (not just towards us, but also within the team) without seeming artificial. We were absolutely thrilled! Thank you very much for this great evening!!!

Pop Up in Vienna in the Restaurant Herzig: First let me say: the service is very attentive and friendly, the menu sequence of the "classics" from Berlin is rather average for usual fine dining standards/expectations, sometimes just a series of the same vegetables over and over again without any particular claim, signature Dishes, on the other hand, turn out really well. Wine accompaniment (wine list was not possible) was rather average, you just expect more for the price level. All in all, unfortunately a bit disappointing.

I am so glad I did not have to pay for this dinner!!! We got it as a gift and were super excited about this 2 Michelin star restaurant, but literally the only good thing was service, everything else was beyond disappointing. I have been to many Michelin star restaurants, but I have never had such terrible food. We took the 12 course dinner (which is actually only 11) and maybe 3 dishes that were kinda ok, and one of them was the sour dough bread, 3 more were eatable and the remaining ones I literary left on the plate after the first bite. Straight up awful! Such insane mix of complete diff flavors that have literally nothing to do with each other. The endless amount of celery, just because the chef grew up with it, was just completely overwhelming! I had one of the worst diarrheas after getting home. Maybe there are ppl loving this kinda stuff, but me personally would not even recommend it to my worst enemy to try it…Bon Appetite

Top experience at the pop up at Herzig in Vienna (congratulations to Herzig on the star :-)). It's great what can be done with vegetables (great faux grass), service was always great, the service lady with the "beer in the belly button" accent was sometimes harder to understand when it was a bit louder all around, but she had the right wine accompaniment presented very sympathetically with lots of nature and it also had a remarkable non-alcoholic accompaniment. And the boss is a really nice guy. Thank you for visiting Vienna. A fixed point when we come to Berlin.

Chef Sebastian is a genius and dinner at Horvath was life-changing. This dinner wasn't just food, it was a full-blown interactive culinary arts experience that led us through Chef Sebastian's own nostalgic history with food. From 6:30pm to almost midnight, we were treated to transformative course after transformative course while Chef Sebastian and his staff waited on us, hand and foot. My husband and I tried the wine pairings with the full menu and it was the first time pairings made perfect sense to me. Now I understand why wine is considered a food group and I don't think I can drink wine without a food pairing. Moreover, even though my husband is a "burgers and brats" type of guy who normally finds fancy restaurants pretentious, he felt completely comfortable and welcome there. They were all really down to earth and fun while providing astounding service. Such a great first experience at a 2-Michelin star restaurant! We even got to take a picture with Chef Sebastian in the kitchen at the end of the night!! 100% would recommend for anyone visiting Berlin. It's truly worth every penny.

So to put it bluntly, it was over priced and one essentially got, you know that part of the vegetable that you usually throw away or use as a garnish for other dishes. Yeah. That at over 30 euros per plate. The small tasting is 160 euro without wine. The “oxidized salad” was literally a spoiled salad that was both slimy and flavorless. The bread was good but pretty sure they charged us for it … which they kept pushing. The celery root is literally just celery salt. We had to eat somewhere afterwards. If the word subtle is used, then expect flavorless veg. Hey, they’re trying something, but it is not working in my opinion. So if high prices, small portions of overworked vegetables are your thing, then here is your place. The waitstaff were friendly and professional, the atmosphere was nice. But I would take the money elsewhere and go to one of the many other restaurants that can be found in Berlin.

20.12.24 I think my expectations were too high, so I was a little disappointed. I really enjoyed the creativity, detail, and technique of the food, but the overall food lacked organization and cohesion. I didn't feel like the wine pairings matched the food, but the variety of white, orange, and ice wines was nice. It was vegetarian menu. I didn’t know… 🙂‍↕️ Next time the menu changes, I'll give it a try.

Easily the best meal I've ever had. We opted for the 'smaller' tasting menu and were still blown away and left full. The service is incredible, each dish well presented and carefully explained by the staff. The head chef also delivers some of the dishes and is more than happy to talk through his ideas and influences, and was super friendly and welcoming. Truly exceptional experience. The food is gorgeous (which is, at the end of the day, the most important thing). Service is a superb - a mix of quality time with chef/owner Sebastian Frank giving insight into his philosophy and the stories behind the dishes, and an amazingly well informed service brigade (clearly not "just on a script" but with a genuine understanding of how the dishes are prepared). Awesome tasting menu. Mostly vegetables but done in such a flavourful way you won’t miss the meat — it’s used more for seasoning than anything else. One of the few Michelin star restaurants I have returned to — not just twice but three times! The mushroom “fois gras” is particularly spectacular and I hope they never take it off the menu. The head chef is super lovely and comes out to chat to diners, and you get little cards explaining each dish. Brilliant experience, highly recommended!

Sin embargo, a pesar de que la comida, que es vegetariana, sabe magnífico, el restaurante es extremadamente caro para lo que está ofreciendo. Si no es por el pan, puede terminar hambriento después de pagar la cantidad que pagaría en un asador de alta gama. Lo mismo para los vinos; buen maridaje pero no muy bien. Por eso le di 3/5 y no más. Para un restaurante de 2 estrellas Michelin esperaba algo diferente.

Unfortunately a complete disappointment. The menu contains only vegetarian options. So far so good. However, anyone hoping for creative vegetarian options a la cookies and cream will be disappointed. The dishes are completely unbalanced in taste and in some cases inedible. One situation with the sommelier was particularly dicey. My request to stop the wine accompaniment was met with a passive-aggressive response, but the chef and owner deserve a positive mention. Likeable and close to the guest, but completely lacking in terms of his menu. Overall, however, it was miles away from two stars in terms of content, taste and humanity.

The restaurant is undoubtedly appealing and the extremely friendly chef's menu idea is a success. However, I found the implementation of the concept to be inadequate, especially in terms of the relationship between the food and the underlying price. Only the signature dishes were convincing, but even they couldn't offer the taste experience that I would have expected from a two-star restaurant. Unfortunately, the visit can only be described as disappointing, even though I was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, given the current menu, I can't make a recommendation.

We had a lovely evening at Horvath! We love food (both cooking and eating), but we're not exactly fine dining regulars. We visited to celebrate a special occasion, and a friend had praised and recommended Horvath. We went for the Quick n Dirty menu, which was perfect for us. The service was friendly and warm, yet unobtrusive. The room and atmosphere were simple, cosy and beautiful. All very relaxed and not at all highbrow or stuffy. The food was really interesting and delicious. The thing that impressed me most was how well the restaurant responded to my food intolerances and allergies! (gluten and soy, often quite hard to avoid in restaurants). I was served two different kinds of clearly home-made gluten free breads. There was in my memory only one dish that was really different from that of my non-allergic companion, everything else was adapted so I could eat it, which I was very grateful for. The flavors were all really interesting and complex. I loved the iced tomato soup, even if it was just a bite! The mashed potato with brown butter, such a down to earth dish, was just beautiful (I'll certainly try to recreate it at home). My favourite though was the aubergine steamed in sugarwater as dessert, with mint and parsley sorbet. The non-alcoholic drink pairing was also fun and tasty, and a real addition to the overall experience. I'd definitely recommend Horvath, based on this experience.

We were spontaneously in the corner and stopped for a walk. Unfortunately, due to the rat visit, we were unable to stay and order food. We lost our appetite after this surprise. Unfortunately, this happens due to the directly adjacent house, which does not meet the hygiene regulations! This problem should be remedied urgently, as the rats certainly don't just stay outside. We had an amazing experience until the last 3-4 courses - our drink pairings began arriving quite a long time before the dishes. I’m not sure what happened because no explanation was ever given but we waited roughly an hour between the aubergine and salty plums desserts. We were there about 6 hours. I cannot fault any of the salty dishes, they were incredible, especially the mushroom liver pâté, mushroom in almond oil, and ‘first dip’. The first two desserts were nice but they did not wow us like the other 11/13 creations on the menu. Had I known how long those last three dishes would take I would have preferred leaving 90 minutes earlier and foregoing the desserts. That being said, I would come back :)

We were so confused by our visit to Horváth, which I had been really looking forward to. Right away we started being “offered” drinks to begin the meal - like, no, I want to know what I’m ordering and what I’m paying for it. I should’ve ordered the wine pairing but the sommelier was trying to push bottles of wine of, again, unknown prices on us. I told the sommelier I didn’t want a bottle for over €100 - I’m a lightweight and I’m there to eat food, not drink - and he basically rolled his eyes and called us cheap lol. At some point after seven courses or so, we just started getting ignored. Our courses started coming one every 30 minutes and we were just sitting there bored. After ages they explained that one of their machines had broken and they couldn’t do certain dishes. We just wanted to leave at that point, we were cold and uncomfortable. They offered 10% off our meal - a poor offer we felt, so we actually didn’t tip - an unprecedented move for us, but the service felt nearly hostile. The food was nothing special compared to other Michelin star places, and the presentation was muted. Conceptually, I thought it was a big mess, as most dishes were explained as being inspired by the chef’s childhood or quirky stories of his. Okay, but why do I care about the chef? Not into the “celebrity chef” stuff - I want sophisticated, creative dishes presented with precision. We felt this was not achieved at Horváth.

This was a caricature of haute cuisine. I simply lack words to describe the depth of disappointment at our meal. Needless elaboration of dishes with no intrinsic quality or taste: We were literally served the throw-away vegetables used to make soup stock. To pay €400 for such paltry dishes is bewildering. Shame on us for not having researched this more adequately. We left hungry. I literally had to eat a meal later the same evening to avoid feeling hungry after 5 “courses” that consisted mostly of vegetable slivers. Why no meat on the menu, at all, if you offer as a desert a vial of pigs blood? Truly one of the most absurd dining experiences of my life, outrageously expensive for dishes that would have classified at most restaurants as nothing more than garnishes. Do yourself a favour and stay away. Far away. Throw a dart at random at a list of every restaurant, kebab stand and cafe in Berlin and believe me, you will still do better. I wish I could have both the money and more importantly the several hours of my life this took back! It ruined an otherwise idyllic weekend in Berlin.

Food was amazingly creative and tasty. As a ceramic artist I loved the porcelain pottery loosely thrown unglazed on the outside with a few kintsuki repairs. The mushroom foie gras was sublime and the zucchini almost tasted like meat but that is because it had meat in the sauce. Beware if you are a vegetarian. Dessert was awful. it was salty and tasted like meat. Mikko and another female waiter made the experience unforgettable. They were attentive and friendly. We did not take the non-alcoholic pairing because I am in recovery and do not substitute. Finally we felt like second class citizens as the chef visited every table but ours positively fawning on the table next to ours.

Als wir das Horváth im Mai 2024 zu viert besucht haben, wussten wir, dass wir uns auf einen besonderen Abend freuen konnten – und doch hat uns die Intensität des Erlebnisses überrascht. Die Einrichtung ist zurückgenommen, viel Holz und die alte Wandtäfelung im vorderen Bereich sorgen für eine entspannte, warme Atmosphäre; das sich durch den Raum spannende Wandgemälde von Jim Avignon setzt einen – im positiven Sinn – vibrierenden Gegenpol. Sehr schön sind die beiden Sitznischen in der Wand für zwei Personen … aber wir hatten das Glück und Privileg, an dem Tisch platznehmen zu dürfen, der direkt neben der Glaswand zur Küche steht. Beobachten zu können, mit wie viel Konzentration und Ruhe dort gearbeitet wird, war ein zusätzliches Vergnügen. Den Service hätten wir uns nicht besser wünschen können: Im Horváth versteht man die Kunst, freundlich, zugewandt und auf sympathische Art nah am Gast zu sein, ohne dabei zu präsent zu werden. Neben den beiden Damen, die sich um uns gekümmert haben, hat Miko Klages uns als Gastgeber souverän durch den Abend begleitet und wäre schon allein ein Grund, das Restaurant noch einmal zu besuchen. Im Mittelpunkt steht aber natürlich das Menü – wir haben uns für die Große Selektion mit 12 Kreationen aus der „emanzipierten Gemüseküche“ entschieden, wobei wir eine davon in der rein vegetarischen Variante bestellt haben; um dies direkt vorweg zu schicken: Sie steht der regulären Version in nichts nach. Und weil wir unsere Neugier nicht bändigen konnten (oder wollten), haben wir zusätzlich das Signature Dish des Hauses geordert, „Sellerie reif und jung“. Bei den Getränken konnten wir drei Varianten genießen, die uns alle überzeugt haben: die klassische Weinbegleitung, die alkoholische Begleitung, die nicht nur Wein beinhaltet, und die alkoholfreie Begleitung, die – ohne die beiden anderen zu mindern – die größte Überraschung war … und noch dazu aus den 12 Gängen 24 machte, weil jedes Getränk dem Essen noch einmal einen eigenen Geschmackskosmos hinzugefügt hat. Es gibt sicher ein gewähltes Vokabular, um den Genuss zu beschreiben, den uns die auch optisch höchst ansprechenden Teller bereitet haben, aber man kann ihn auch mit „geil und abgefahren“ zusammenfassen. Die Pilzleber, der „lätscherte“ Salat, die „Kreation Populaire“ (Zwiebel, Zucchini, Gurken), alles großartig und einzigartig, und wir hatten einen viel zu entspannten Abend, um ernsthaft darüber zu debattieren, ob nun die Kräuterseitlinge, der gebackene Sellerie, die Aubergine oder der „Erste Stich“ (Sahnerahm, Paprika, Knoblauch-Kümmelessig) unsere Favoriten waren. Was uns allen klar war: „Sliwowitz und Seleskowitz“ ist eine so vielschichtige Überraschung, dass wir uns nicht vorstellen können, wer diese Erfahrung irgendwann noch einmal übertreffen soll. Aber: Da vertrauen wir einfach auf den Ideenreichtum von Sebastian Frank. Wir haben es ausgesprochen genossen, dass er sich Zeit für uns genommen hat und wir teilhaben durften an seinen Ideen. Nun liegt es nah zu sagen, dass er sich mit dem Horváth die perfekte Bühne geschaffen hat, aber das allein würde natürlich nicht reichen: Er gehört ins Scheinwerferlicht, begeistert durch den Schwung und die Geschwindigkeit seiner Erzählung … aber auch dadurch, dass er den Monolog immer wieder zum Dialog werden lässt. Werden wir die Selleriesamen aussähen? Wir bekamen sie zusammen mit den Kärtchen, die zu jedem Gang auf den Tisch gestellt wurden und in wenigen Worten noch einmal erklären, was wir gerade genießen dürfen. Und nein, wir werden das kleine Tütchen vermutlich nicht aufreißen, sondern als Erinnerung wertschätzen. Außerdem werden wir noch lange vom Hefezopf träumen, leicht errötend von der ungenierten Einzigartigkeit eines Getränks mit dem Namen „No Sweat“ schwärmen und verblüfft sein beim Gedanken an den Kaffeesatz aus Wurzelgemüse und geröstetem Mohn. Und vor allem: Wir wollen wiederkommen!

I was fascinated reading the range of opinons on this restaurant in these Tripadvisor reviews. I’m with those who say “wow.” I found each dish to be delicous. I enjoyed finding out what can be done with familiar ingredients, prepared and combined in unfamiliar ways. I was lucky enough to dine there on a beautiful evening, when dinner was served outside. All of the servers — including the chef himself — were friendly, efficient, and full of information about the meal and wines. The whole evening was a delight. If you are just looking for a good traditional meal to fill up on, this is not the place for you. But if you are up for a culinary adventure, give it a try. You may enjoy it as much as I did.

Maden, der er plantebaseret, var enormt smagfuld ned til mindste bid, og vinmenuen passede helt perfekt dertil. Jeg elsker kød, men det manglede absolut ikke. Vi valgte den lille menu og var der lidt over 3 timer, men tiden fløj afsted. Det hele var af højeste kvalitet, og der var samtidig en tilpas afslappet og uhøjtidelig stemning - også i køkkenet, så der ud til at være en god stemning, selv om der må have været travlt. Man kan virkelig mærke, at alle på stedet brænder for det, de laver, og for at give gæsterne den bedste aften. Det var alle pengene værd!

It was hands down the best meal I’ve ever had. Their non-alcoholic beverages were the best I’ve ever had. The staff was friendly, welcoming and incredibly knowledgeable. Watching the kitchen ballet their way to create the food was incredible to witness. The subtle layering of flavors, explode in your mouth. We flew all the way from Canada and we don’t regret it. 10/10. No notes.
