Another fantastic breakfast! The price is absolutely reasonable, and the staff are friendly and helpful. We had to cancel some of our reservations due to illness, which wasn't a problem at all. They even served lactose-free rolls upon request.

Unfortunately, our expectations were not met. The soup arrived after 20 minutes, but before the aperitif. A dry start. We then had to wait 45 minutes for the main course. The meat was unfortunately tough, dry, and unseasoned, and the hash browns from the deep fryer tasted like potato pancakes. The salad was good, the dressing was delicious, but we ordered a second sauce for €2.50. A shame! A nice, well-styled atmosphere, a bit noisy. Service was okay.

We lived in Oldenburg for seven years about 40 years ago and remember the Ahrenshof from that time. When we were back in Oldenburg for three days to relive old memories, we took the opportunity to visit the Ahrenshof again for dinner, and we were not disappointed. The service, ambiance, and food were still excellent; we had a very pleasant evening there.

We were very disappointed. It was our 85th birthday, and we were there with eight people. The food wasn't great for the price: fresh chanterelle mushrooms drenched in cream sauce, just two herring halves, and three very tiny pork fillets. The service deteriorated as the restaurant filled up, and the restaurant manager reacted very spitefully, slamming the debit card on the table when we tried to at least glance at the bill before paying. Understandable, considering the total was over €350. It's a shame; we hadn't imagined the birthday to be anything but.

I had a schnitzel with fresh chanterelles drowned in a cream sauce. The schnitzel consisted of at least 90 percent breading and was unfortunately not edible for me. The waitress took note of this very silently without any comment. Never again, thank you.

WARNING OF DISAPPOINTMENT We've been coming to Bad Zwischenahn for 31 years, left the Ahrenshof disappointed 6 years ago, and tried again today. Since we're truly familiar with the entire restaurant scene in Bad Zwischenahn (staying 10 nights each time), we can only draw a brief conclusion after our final visit: The Ahrenshof is ranked number one among the rip-off restaurants here in Bad Zwischenahn. And former employees even warn against this rip-off restaurant. The drink prices are the highest all the way up to the North Sea coast, and the prices for the food with the small portions are absolute rip-offs. Avoid this place.

We visited the Ahrenshof to get a firsthand impression, but opinions about the place are quite divided. We were there early on a Sunday evening and got our reserved table after a long wait at the entrance. First impression: arrogant. Although 5 (!) members of the staff saw us standing there, it took minutes of waiting before someone came along who felt it necessary to pick us up from the sign "Please wait here, we will show you a table." Anyway, we got our table outside, just as we had reserved it. The food, including the starter, was without a doubt very good, and the table service was OK. In the old days, you would have said, "She tried hard." Will I ever go back to the Ahrenshof? We'll see.

We went there for breakfast today! First, despite having a table reservation (we checked twice beforehand), we were assigned a different table - the one originally reserved for us was occupied by other guests. The manager then said she couldn't do anything about it, her colleague must have changed it, and she'd been on vacation for the last few days. The buffet was poorly set up, with only one long table - so we quickly had to queue at the buffet. Good selection of fish and sausage, but otherwise weak. Cheap muesli selection (every Ibis Budget Hotel has more), only TWO types of jam, and then they were also pre-packaged - nothing fresh. Honey also came in small packets, nothing of high quality. Multivitamins and orange juice came in large containers for self-tapping, but there were so many ice cubes in them - it just seemed super watered down. Frozen bread rolls that weren't even crispy. Shockingly, none of the cheese, sausage, fish, or minced meat platters were refrigerated. In general, food was only replenished very sporadically, and the buffet quickly began to look unappealing because it was never "cleaned" – things that went wrong were simply left lying around. The highlight was being able to look into the kitchen and watch the scrambled eggs being prepared from a packet – I expect something different in a place like this. The advertised fried egg wasn't on the buffet and wasn't actively offered; it apparently wasn't even there. The service was nice, but overwhelmed, poorly trained, and far too few. As a result, hardly anyone was at the table to clear the table or ask for drinks. The coffee, by the way, wasn't tasty either, very weak. So, all in all, it looked great on the outside but terrible on the inside.

At €14.90, the lunch menu seemed okay at first glance. Exception: A bottle of mineral water cost €8...! The ambiance was very nice. Rochus was a real hit here. Regarding the quality of the food: the pork was dry. The fried potatoes were drowning in bacon and too fatty. The beans were mushy. The sauce was too salty. The salmon was okay. The sauce was okay. The service was attentive and generally friendly. CONCLUSION: Not a restaurant you need to visit for lunch.

We were here for a celebration. It was a complete success.

The beer garden is very pleasant to sit in. The price is good, but the salad toppings are too expensive. For example, a regular salad is okay, but a small piece of chicken would add an extra €10, for a total of €25, which is too expensive!

On July 23, 2025, the two of us sat down at a table outside to eat at 7:15 p.m. After a while, a server came to our table. To greet us, she asked whose name we had made the reservation under. When we told her that we didn't have a reservation, she explained to us that the inside restaurant was fully booked and we couldn't actually eat there! There were only three tables occupied in the entire outside area!!! We then told her that we would leave and eat at another restaurant. The icing on the cake was her comment that we can do without guests who get offended straight away. We have never experienced more arrogance in a restaurant! We will definitely never go back to the Ahrenshof in Bad Zwischenahn, even though we enjoyed having dinner there in recent years as vacationers in Bad Zwischenahn, even without a prior reservation!

We were there today with a large group for a birthday breakfast. There were 16 people, and we had made a reservation. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough food. There weren't enough rolls, and there wasn't enough cold cuts and fruit, and they didn't refill them. The selection wasn't that great. The restaurant wasn't full, so it was very disappointing. On a positive note, the waitress was very understanding and admitted they weren't prepared, so we didn't have to pay full price. Still, I wouldn't recommend it.

On July 17, 2025, we had dinner at the Ahrenshof. Unfortunately, it was disappointing. A country-style platter with pork loin, seasonal vegetables, and fried potatoes. The fried potatoes and vegetables were clearly convenience foods. The pork loin was dry. The wine selected from the menu was apparently not available. The taste was nothing special either.

The restaurant is good, but has declined.

Good menu and good quality. You can also sit outside. A cozy fireplace in the winter. Definitely worth a visit. We often eat here with friends.

The service was also consistently friendly and attentive. We like to stop here for special occasions. The spacious outdoor area with a playground makes a visit enjoyable, even with children. One minor drawback is the children's menu, which seems a bit pricey. All in all, a recommended destination for connoisseurs of traditional cuisine in a refined setting.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Ahrenshof restaurant in Bad Zwischenahn, and I have to say I was completely impressed not only by the excellent food, but also by the exemplary accessibility. As a wheelchair user, I know how difficult it can sometimes be to find a truly accessible restaurant that doesn't compromise on ambiance or quality. The Ahrenshof impressed me across the board! It was immediately apparent upon arrival: The access to the restaurant is step-free, making it easy to navigate with a wheelchair. The accessibility continues inside. The tables are well-spaced, allowing ample space between them, and maneuvering to the table was also absolutely straightforward. In summary, I can wholeheartedly recommend the Ahrenshof in Bad Zwischenahn to anyone who values ​​excellent food in an accessible and pleasant atmosphere. For wheelchair users, this restaurant is definitely a top choice.

[June 2025] Visited by reservation for a family celebration. The location is relatively idyllic and secluded, parking is available but not well signposted. Only residential parking spaces in front of the house. Starter, drink, and main course cost around €45. Friendly service, and the wait for the main course was reasonable. What was particularly positive was that all the main courses arrived at the same time. Every dish seemed to come with a colorful salad, and my Cordon Bleu even came with salad as a side dish. The salad was very fresh, practically fresh from the field. So fresh that some of it came with dirt. The potato rösti as an appetizer was probably the best rösti I've ever eaten. I'd never eaten Cordon Bleu before and had no benchmark, so I can't give it a fair rating, but it impressed me. At €25 for this dish, I would have expected a slightly larger portion (see picture). The appetizer, however, was filling. All in all, it was a nice stay, but unfortunately, given the prices and my salary, I can't afford to stay there regularly. Perhaps it's all just a matter of perspective on what's important to you.

The weather was nice, so we ate in the beer garden, which is very nice and cozy; the service is friendly; the food was delicious, but the burgers were much too small and accordingly too expensive; with a burger, I expect fries and a small salad for €19.50.

Two of us went to lunch. It's well known that lunch portions are smaller. We ordered pork fillet with fried potatoes and beans from the lunch menu. It was two decent pieces of meat, with plenty of broad potatoes. The restaurant can't be blamed for not meeting the customer's taste. I personally ordered pork strips with hash browns and salad. I've never received such a small amount of meat. In a tiny little bowl was a creamy mushroom sauce with about four small pieces of meat. The side dishes were very sufficient and also okay. Coincidentally, the couple at the next table had ordered exactly the same thing. When their food arrived, the lady's gaze into the tiny bowl of meat was priceless.

The first positive aspect was the delicious food – the dishes were truly delicious and also visually appealing. I found this reaction disappointing. As a guest, you want your criticism to be taken seriously – especially when the quality of an ingredient in the dish obviously doesn't live up to the otherwise high standards of the establishment. The sauce may only be one part of the dish, but it's part of it and significantly influences the overall impression. Conclusion: A stylish restaurant with good food and friendly staff – but there's still room for improvement in dealing with justified criticism. It's a shame, because with a little more accommodatingness, the visit could have been a thoroughly positive experience.

Although there were plenty of empty tables and apparently no reservations at 7:30 p.m. on a Saturday evening, we were refused a table for two, either inside or outside, when we asked. Outside the restaurant, we immediately reserved a table online for an hour at 8:30 p.m., which was confirmed. When we later asked for a table again at the same time (out of curiosity despite the reservation), the server, who was apparently the deciding factor, grumpily agreed to our request but immediately pointed out that our order could only include one course. The kitchen would close at 9 p.m.! Why are reservations still being confirmed at 8:30 p.m. when you can only order a limited number of courses?! The waitress's unfriendly and grumpy reaction was completely unprofessional!

We spontaneously came after a steam train ride. Slightly hidden, reserved online via Google, and were 100% impressed. The staff was amazing; they were immediately attentive, sat us at a nicer table, and asked if we could take a photo of Dad, brother, and me instead of having to take a selfie. The food, a light Bayreuth beer, was wonderful! If it weren't so far away, we'd be happy to go back. Plus the atmosphere of the old courtyard. Wonderful! Thank you!

We ordered asparagus with pork schnitzel. We were very surprised that they only served half a schnitzel per person. When we asked, we were told that the fried schnitzel was too big and had to be shared?! For €31 per person, we weren't satisfied. And that wasn't even an expensive veal schnitzel. We won't be coming back, although we really enjoyed eating here in the past.

Unusual: It's not often that, as a non-regular customer (after making an online reservation), you're addressed by name during the course of the evening. We were at Ahrenshof for the first time today. Food was delicious so far. But the portions weren't particularly big. So we didn't really get full. As always, we only had one main course. We never order starters or desserts. The prices are on the higher side. Apart from drink prices in general. They're really salty everywhere. Service good so far. Courteous and nice. We would now rather not come back again. This is more due to the price.

We were there as a large group and the food and service were very good. Unfortunately we waited more than an hour for the food. I can certainly imagine the motives, since we were a larger group, but over an hour is too long. As a family you don't have this problem, as we have seen at other tables. While the portions of the slices are very generous, the steak is rather small. The prices, on the other hand, are extravagant, but the restaurant is open until 10 p.m., unlike others in this town.

We were there yesterday on April 10th. to eat there. A very nice house. The service, two ladies, very positive. We ordered a cordon bleu and a duck. We were disappointed in our expectations. We ate the food, we were hungry. The food was clearly recognizable as convenience food. In no way proportional to the price! We can only understand some of the positive reviews to mean that people have now gotten used to this kind of food. See Sebastian Lege's TV show "besseresser" There will definitely be no repeat for us. In addition, a dog does not belong in a restaurant, but it was accepted and allowed.

Price-performance ratio doesn't feel right at all. A very small cordon bleu with fries and mini salad €25. Tafelspitz broth (small cup) with (little) meat added €10. Nothing special in terms of taste either.

The ambience is ok, but that day the restaurant was so full of “cabbage drivers” that the noise was unbearable 😩 and normal conversation at our table was not possible. The service is good; The order was taken quickly and the food was delivered promptly. Unfortunately, the food we ordered wasn't what we actually expected. The 3 half herrings disappeared under a sauce, the bean salad was an unrecognizable puree and the fried potatoes were warmed up and swimming in fat. The meat dish was also not freshly prepared, but also warmed up. After eating we told the waitress our experiences; Not a word of regret, just “I’ll pass it on to the kitchen.” For us it was a “used” evening! The dinner did not meet our expectations, but the price was unreasonable😡 We will not visit the Ahrenshof again for dinner or recommend it to others!

2 euros reordering fee for a different type of ice cream for chocolate cake. I wanted chocolate ice cream instead of vanilla because I have an allergy. Unfortunately it doesn't work at all. And that with a turnover of over 500 euros only through us. Side dishes for the meal all had to be constantly requested and were all put on the table late or not at all. Unfortunately, kale was also cold. Espresso was great.

We were invited to dinner at Ahrenshof for a birthday. The path through the illuminated tree alley to the Ahrenshof, which was also beautifully illuminated, was very nice. The menu was well put together. There were 10 of us and everyone found the right dish or menu for themselves. The service was very courteous and competent. The food came quickly and at the same time. It never had to be and wait for his food. I really enjoyed it and so did the others at our table. It was a great evening and a very delicious birthday dinner. Thanks
