A lovely, cozy Bavarian-style taproom and a great beer garden under old vines. The food was good and the service friendly.

From ambiance to food – everything is just right here. 💯 ​The ambiance is incomparable. The beer garden under the vine roof 🍇🍷 is especially stunning and so unique! You immediately feel transported to another world, enjoying the peace and the wonderful atmosphere. ✨ ​The service was first-class – attentive, friendly, and absolutely professional. 😇 You truly feel like a welcome guest. ​And the food… simply outstanding! The absolute highlight for me was the dessert: the "Passauer Schlosserbuam" (Passau Castle Brothers) was simply divine! 🤤 But the wines from the Wachau region were also an absolute delight. 🥂 So delicious and perfectly paired with the food! ​The Heilig-Geist-Stiftschänke is a must for anyone visiting Passau. A culinary experience you won't forget. ❤️

We had a wonderful Bavarian meal here. The schnitzel and traditional potato salad was excellent. The fish was done perfectly - fresh and light.

One of the very few restaurants left in Passau where you can still go. I've been going here for 50 years and have always been satisfied. Excellent cuisine, an extensive menu, an unbeatable ambiance, and excellent service at reasonable prices are what set this monastery apart, not to mention the wonderfully sparkling wines and the fantastic desserts. As far as I know, it's also the only restaurant that lists its employees by name on the menu. That's appreciation! Here's to the next 40 years! Heesters also turned 107.

A very nice restaurant with a cozy beer garden. The food was consistently delicious – our highlight was the Kaiserschmarrn. It wasn't actually on the menu, but upon our request, the chef prepared it fresh especially for us. Highly recommended! The staff is very friendly, and the atmosphere is pleasant and inviting. The restaurant boasts a beautiful courtyard covered in wild vines, as well as a small, winding beer garden, perfect for a pleasant evening. The food highlights include the freshly prepared fish from the restaurant's own farm, which swims in a pond in the courtyard. There's also a large wine selection. Reservations are essential.

Top location in Passau. Upscale Bavarian cuisine in a historic building. The garden, completely overgrown with vines and its niches, is also fantastic. Excellent cuisine with plenty of fresh fish. My appetizer recommendation is the Roman snails, and for dessert, there's the Passau specialty "Schlosserbuam" (a kind of snail), along with many other temptations. Don't forget to try the monastery's own wine. Very good service and a short wait. The prices are appropriate for the service, location, and quality, but not excessive.

Wow what a wonderful experience- this is a real historic hidden local gem. The restaurant itself has been here for hundreds of years (14th century) and has a beautiful interior but it’s the vine-covered courtyard that has the best seats in the house and where you’ll find all the locals. Fluent English spoken and wonderful friendly service. Excellent menu with all the local specialties. The mushroom spaetzel was excellent, but the Vienna schnitzel was the hero dish. Perfection on a plate. Highly recommend booking here (online) as it’s very popular.

The waiter ignored us for about 20 minutes. Finally somebody asked us what our choice was … suddenly this same waiter sat down in the customer area at one of the best tables (boxes) to have his private dinner before leaving. We could not believe this. Then at 21.00 they closed a certain seating area to asking customers … for unknown reasons. Finally our food arrived after we had finished our soup. … the food was cold. A traditional ambience with no respect for customers, no style and most of all no organisation. You can find a lot better in Passau and the nearby Austria (e.g. Weinbeisser in Freinberg). Heilig Geist Stift … sorry, never again. It’s become a tourist trap. Complacency is the beginning of the end.

Il due deriva dall'ottimo servizio, che però non basta a sollevare una cena in cui nessuna pietanza è stata preparata espressa (notare la rapidità con cui il cibo è arrivato ad ulteriore prova). Nonostante avessimo ordinato due grandi classici IN SALSA ovvero maialino con crosta croccante e agnello arrosto, le salse sono arrivate versate sopra ma le carni erano state cotte "a secco", poi tutto riscaldato assieme. completamente diverso da quanto ci aspettavamo. la cotoletta con patatine aveva la panatura floscia, probabilmente anch'essa riscaldata o comunque nel migliore dei casi mal fritta. gli spaetzle li ho lasciati quasi tutti, consistenza indicibile. faccio presente che adoriamo il cibo bavarese, non è il commento dell'italiano che ama pizza pasta e mandolino. buone le birre, comunque nella media. confesso che non ho avuto il coraggio di riferire i commenti sul cibo al cameriere perchè è stato di una gentilezza incredibile.

The food is tasty, traditionally Bavarian and of good quality. The beer is highly recommended. We had various Easter specialties that are not on the normal menu. The desserts are also delicious: we tried the Passauer Schlosserbuam and the flambéed apricot pancake. Thanks to the beautiful Easter weather, we were able to enjoy the cozy garden three times. The nice, attentive waiters deserve great praise.

Two Berliners in Passau. Thanks to chance and our taxi driver's brainwave, we were able to enjoy dinner here. Conclusion: Mr. Anton is fantastic. He understands real gastronomy and is also very funny. The food AND the service prompted us to return the next evening. We highly recommend this experience and will definitely be back.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The garlic soup with cretons could be a little more fine-tuned and less viscous 🤔. The roast pork, on the other hand, tastes great, even if the price is no longer quite Bavarian 💰. Went on a trip to Passau and of course got hungry. Ambience very nice. The waitresses were all super friendly. After ordering the Wiener Schnitzel and the Viennese onion roast, it didn't take too long for the food to arrive. Both dishes were super tasty. Price performance is simply great. Everything was right here. Thanks to the whole team.

Solid food in a historical ambience

We were there for lunch on October 8th, 2024. We were looked after by old school staff here. We really enjoyed the duck, suckling pig and the baked Emmental cheese. The spray and the juice were also very good. Diet Coke is still served here in glass bottles.

Every time we are in Passau we go here. The food has been consistently good over the years. But what really annoys me is the fact that the beer glasses are never filled. But always fully charged. Otherwise everything fits. My photo shows a beer, I gave it some extra time. As I said, always like that with us.

Today I tried to get into the restaurant to the left of the stairs with a wheelchair, luckily I found a nice waiter who showed me the way, you can also get in with a wheelchair, the food was very good, the toilet was also usable for me, so I'll definitely come again

We were in the rustic Stiftskeller and were served very friendly and quickly. The millet schnitzel with mushroom sauce and the mushroom steak were very good. Overall, the restaurant, which looks inconspicuous from the outside, is highly recommended

We ate twice in the monastery vaulted cellar. + very friendly staff, careful service + cozy atmosphere + fair prices + homemade food + gluten-free Wiener Schnitzel possible, it was very good in taste and quality + fresh salad + gluten-free options available With the homemade desserts (the Bayrisch Krem contained small amounts of gelatine that were not properly combined with the liquid) you can still do a little work on how they are made and served. Reservation recommended. We would definitely come back next time we are in Passau.

Here you can relax pleasantly - under the canopy of vine leaves, in the magical courtyard of the Heilig-Geist-Stiftschänke in Passau. A glass of sacramental wine from the monastery and one (or preferably two) delicacies from the kitchen, and the world around the walls of the venerable institution in the beautiful city of three rivers is forgotten. Friendly service, good cuisine, good wine list. A recommendation!

We went to the Heilig-Geist-Stiftschenke again at the weekend. We got a table in the Stüberl and ordered mushroom soup, roast pork with dumplings and coleslaw and a Schwabenpfändle, along with 2 Helle. The food came to the table super quickly and tasted good. The Heilig-Geist-Stiftschenke is always a safe bet if you want something good! We're always happy to come back!

Wunderbarer Garten mit Wachauer Weingarten-Flair. Abwechslungsreiche Karte mit bayrischen und österreichischen Spezialitäten. Frische Zutaten, passend zur Saison, werden verwendet und auch der Service war hervorragend. Dazu passend gibt es Wachauer Weine und Passauer Bier.

The cook should have dared a little more. The way it was served wasn't very impressive. Given the prices, you'd expect more imagination and art when preparing the food. The aperitif was very tasty, it was a dry house wine with elderberry and lemon, very tasty. I had the feeling that the boss (if it was her, at the counter where the food was served) put all the employees under a bit of pressure and there was a very unpleasant atmosphere in the inn/reception area. And what's nice is something else: as a boss you can also say "Hello". Despite everything, the high prices are not justified given this quality. We were on our Viking cruise and stopped in Passau. Didn’t want to go to the main street with so many other tourists. Found this restaurant on google map with high reviews. The moment we walked inside and we knew we would like it. Very beautiful with history and authentic feeling of Germany. So many fun decor pieces and we couldn’t take our eyes off them. Ordered schnitzel and came with veg/potato salad. The taste of potato was very different from North America with a subtle pleasant sour flavour. We absolutely loved it. The dumpling was a bit dense to my taste. There is a backyard for people sitting and eating outside. Imagine coming here with a group of friends and drinking beers 🍻 and having fun 🤩. Unfortunately we didn’t see the underground or basement sitting since it wasn’t open. we could imagine it could be beautiful too.
