Portions too large, too much sauce, too heavy, very German cuisine, water and espresso too expensive, but very nice ambiance, very good quality meat, friendly service.

If you want French cuisine, then this is the place to go... Always an experience!

Really good! Great wine list. Dishes are completely homemade (even the mayonnaise for the fries). We had an appetizer, a glass of wine, a couple of beers, and two main courses for about 100 euros. It was worth every single cent. I especially recommend the mussel dishes – really delicious broth, everything fresh.

A very fine French bistro with excellent cuisine and some (😉) very friendly waiters. The ambiance and the food are top-notch! There was one waiter who was a bit off-kilter, but this was very well balanced by the manager and another waitress. I highly recommend the restaurant. It's definitely worth making a reservation, as it gets quite busy. The website needs some work.

Sat right on the street. The food was incredibly good. The waiter was amazing. An Italian with a Cologne accent, I think. Wonderful, I'll go there again.

Went with friends on a recent trip to Cologne. Fabulous, quite earthy French food, good portion size. Loved my stag fillet with olive and walnut crust and cassis reduction. Everyone in our party was very happy with their food. Good wine selection and friendly vibe. Would definitely go again.

Don't believe the hype!!! It makes a French connoisseur's stomach turn. Portions far too generous, more reminiscent of German brewery cuisine. Every plate totally overloaded. Way too much side dish. The service was rude and not very funny. My appetizer was apparently the boss's favorite appetizer. Inedible! Everyone at the table tried it. It was probably supposed to be some kind of liver pâté or mousse... it was raw, ice cold and then brown sugar was simply poured on top. Maybe it should be caramelized with a Bunsen burner? That was honestly the nastiest thing I've ever eaten. When I told him nicely, the boss said that you can't serve it like that. "This is my favorite appetizer. It has to be that way." Afterwards, the main course should only be enjoyed with caution. I left the store in disbelief and will never eat here again.

We were greeted in a rather unfriendly and arrogant manner. The service and food were ok. But nothing more. The atmosphere was mixed up and we didn't like it either. It's a shame but we definitely won't be coming back.

We have eaten here several times with a larger group. Excellent fine dining paired with a casual wine bar atmosphere. It's just fun to eat there. We'd love to come back.

Wir dürften einen wundervollen Abend im Hardy Kugel verbringen. Das Ambiente lädt ein. Man fühlt sich sofort wohl. Die Aufteilung zwischen Stehtischen im vorderen und Sitztischen im hinteren Bereich ist eine schöne Kombination. Das Essen ist ein Gedicht - wirklich großartig. Ein tolles Angebot an Gerichten, bei dem das Preis Leistungsverhältnis stimmig ist. Der Service war ebenso toll. Die Belegschaft war durchweg nah am Gast und sehr aufmerksam. Immer mit einem netten Spruch auf den Lipoen. Wir haben schnell und unkompliziert unsere Getränke und Essen bekommen. Wir freuen uns schon auf das nächste Mal!

Unfortunately I can't rate the food. We had reserved for 4 people and the five of us sat down at the table with 7 chairs intended for us. The boss (?) then came to us and explained harshly that it wouldn't work that way, we had only reserved for 4 and there were two other guests coming to the table (7-5=2 🤔). His manner was so rude that we left again. Unfortunately, you have now permanently alienated us, never again - best practice in alienating customers.

Das Essen war nicht zu beanstanden. Die Preise nach heutigem Stand in Ordnung. Was nicht in Ordnung ist: der Service. Unfreundlich, unaufmerksam, und geradezu abweisend. Einem unserer Gruppe wird ernsthaft die gewünschte Garstufe des Steaks verweigert. Was will man mit dieser Überheblichkeit erreichen? Innen überwiegend Stehtische, Außen stehen die Tische auf der Straße an einer stark befahrenen Kreuzung. Gemütlich und entspannt geht anders. Wir hatten den Eindruck, man will von einem weiteren Besuch abhalten. Das Ziel haben sie bei uns erreicht.

Reservation worked great! Drinks came quickly, Pinot Gris in the bottle was also great! Tuna tartare left us wanting more, fish soup was a bit bland and fish was only available in fragments. Cod delicious! Unfortunately the duck breast was cooked through and the skin was soft instead of crispy. Tuna steak was way too thick, it became more and more in the mouth, caper sauce was delicious. Petit tender also too through and not really tender at 35 euros! The mayo with wasabi is great, could easily be more wasabi 😎 towards the end the service slowed down, I didn't need a saying we'd just look at the cell phone (which wasn't true despite my answer to his question!!)! All in all, there are ups and downs, portions are plentiful but there are some drawbacks...maybe the menu is just too big to fit everything perfectly on the plate?

Unfortunately, the food is average with quite high prices, service is not very committed and the seating is somewhat uncomfortable and narrow.

Best restaurant in the southern part of town. Highly professional and friendly service. Incredibly good food. We go here regularly and have never been disappointed. It's a little pricey, but it's worth it. And despite the quality, there's no cocky attitude.

We were there a few days ago with a larger group. The food was okay, but nothing special. Unfortunately, we could hardly get the caramelized goose liver mousse down. The waiter who served us had a very strange sense of humor (or maybe it wasn't humor at all?!) and the starter and main course took a total of two and a half hours! Unfortunately that was far too long. We won't be coming back.

Why have we only discovered Hardy Kugel now? An authentic restaurant for down-to-earth French cuisine - we love it. Courteous, friendly service with great recommendations and dishes that don't disappoint: in terms of taste and portion size. We had tuna and veal - both on point, matching wine - what more could you want? The fact that it's around the corner from us makes it difficult to say 'no' to your next visit: price/performance is top!

Very tasty food. Not suitable for the visually impaired or wheelchair users, as the tables on the side of the old boules court are low and you have to climb down a bit. (1 big step). Otherwise highly recommended.

Restaurant and service staff were very nice and also responded kindly to nice criticism. However, the owner can't handle criticism: when I'm asked whether it was tasty and I honestly answer that the food was overly seasoned for me, a somewhat mushy "not for me" is somehow not the right answer or reaction. Actually I like the shop, good wine list and nice food menu. It's a shame that e.g. Garlic intolerance is not handled well. I understand that braised dishes cannot be prepared fresh, but pasta or fish dishes should also be possible without garlic. Unfortunately, the supposedly garlic-free salad with goat cheese wasn't garlic-free, which had very unpleasant consequences for me. I'll put it this way: if you don't have any allergies/intolerances, you can eat and drink very well here. Those with “problems” are more likely to take dessert and good wine.

I went to Hardy's often. I've frowned at the service, especially one waiter. But after the last time there, that was it for me. This person (waiter) is simply impossible. As a guest, you are told not to take too long to order, the restaurant would be too full, so things should move forward....??Please??It was the last time there

For me one of the best French restaurants in Cologne. The cuisine is varied and very good, there is always a current menu offering. The wine selection is excellent and, above all, you get really good advice. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is nice and casual, not too “hip”, a bit of a study café style, I like it. Unfortunately there aren't many free parking spaces nearby (Südstadt, for that matter), but the train connection is quite good. Since I always come from the right bank of the Rhine, it's a small drawback, but I'm happy to accept that.

Absolute recommendation! You can eat really well here at good prices. French cuisine with a rustic touch 👏 we love the artichoke, bouillabaisse and tuna steak. Here you can always recommend the daily menu and feast really well. The staff is funny and attentive and always lovely. By the way, you can also go here with children.

Das sehr teure Essen ist gut. Trotzdem geht man irgendwann nach Hause und ärgert sich über einen dämlichen Abend. Grundsätzlich sind Plätze am Stehtisch ok, für ein gemütliches Essen ziehe ich aber Sitzplätze vor. Ich finde bei der Reservierung 4 Wochen vorher hätte man Bescheid geben können, dass es keine Sitzplätze mehr gibt. Insgesamt war eine super schlechte Stimmung unter der Belegschaft, was sich auch sehr auf den Service ausgewirkt hat. Der Laden war viel zu voll, die Gäste saßen sich fast auf dem Schoss, es war tierisch laut. Wir haben ewig darauf gewartet zumindest schonmal ein Getränk zu bestellen. Was dann kam löst jetzt noch einen Brechreiz aus: schmutzige Gläser. Der Kellner war genervt das wir nach sauberen verlangt haben. Das Essen für 4 Personen kam zu 4 verschiedenen Zeiten. Der Wein wird unter der Fensterbank gelagert. Ständig wuselte jemand unter/zwischen unseren Beinen umher.Als der Kellner dann noch zotig wurde hat es mir endgültig gereicht. Keine Ahnung woher der Laden eine solche Hochnäsigkeit an den Tag legt.

The starter (various mussels) was amazing! The sauce was perfect for the different mussels. 👌 We weren't 100% satisfied with the main course because the plates weren't quite right for us (tuna: more Asian? than French? and potato wedges not original enough for the price/cheeks: slightly missed the cooking point). Since a plate costs €20-30, everything should fit. But of course it is always a matter of taste. What really disappointed me was the reaction of the waiter, who asked if everything was okay and then couldn't handle friendly criticism and ignored us for the rest of the evening. We were then served by another waiter. Since the plates probably vary (seasonally), I'll go back and let myself be convinced! 🤌🏽

Place to be! So ein tolles Ambiente & trotz vollem Haus, bekamen wir den nettesten Empfang! Sofort , kam ein sehr höflicher Kellner entgegen, und hatte uns trotz der Umstände, sehr schnell einen schönen Platz bieten können! (Und das am Wochenende) Fazit! Die Tische entlang der alten Kegelbahn. Originell. Wobei ich mich frage, wie viele Kellner und Gäste sich da schon auf die Fresse gelegt haben. Der Service hat seinen eigenen Charme. Er ist ein klein wenig rau, was mir gefällt. Schlauer Humor. Manchmal könnten sie etwas aufmerksamer sein, aber ich hatte auch nicht den Eindruck, dass einer der bedienenden Herren rumgestanden ist. Sie hatten halt viel zu tun. Das Essen: fast alles gut. Bretonische Fischsuppe, Lotte, Rinder-Carpaccio, Miesmuscheln, Rinderfilet sehr gut. Loup de Mer etwas zu zerfallend und etwas schwach im Geschmack. Das Maishähnchen so gut wie ohne Geschmack. Der Tunfisch schmeckte so, als wäre er eingefroren gewesen. Creme brulee, Schokodessert wieder sehr gut. Weißwein Grauburgunder und Rotwein Shiraz gut bis sehr gut. Weißer Portwein mit Tonic mal ein anderer Aperitif: fand ich gut. Fazit: Schöner Abend, mit etwas anderer, guter Bedienung, in interessantem Ambiente, bei guten Vorspeisen, Nachspeisen und Wein, mit Schwächen beim Fisch und Maishähnchen.

Seit Jahren unser top Lieblingsrestaurant. Nicht der günstigste Laden, aber Preis -Leistung ist unschlagbar und jeden Cent wert. Soooo lecker und alles so liebevoll bis ins letzte Detail. Und sehr charmantes und zuvorkommendes Personal. Herrlich

Wir waren das erstmal bei Hardy Kugel und waren alle sehr zufrieden. Wir hatten verschiedene Vorspeisen und die waren genau wie die Hauptgerichte ein Gedicht. Auch die Desserts waren sehr sehr lecker. Für das Dessert würden wir uns als Frankreichfans noch ein Café Gourmand wünschen. Aber das ist Meckern auf ganz hohen Niveau. Wir waren sehr zufrieden mit dem Essen und dem Service und werden in Kürze noch einmal zu Hardy Kugel gehen. Die Vorfreude ist groß. Danke ans Team!

Absolut grandioses französisches Essen! Das erste Mal da gewesen und definitiv nicht das letzte Mal! Service mit guter Weinberatung und allgemein freundlich und kompetent.

Arroganter, hochnäsiger Kellner, der Sonderwünsche der Gäste bei der Bestellung ablehnt ("Das machen wir nicht!") und dabei diese bzw. sogar den Gast ins Lächerliche zieht! Da ist nur der Kellner König! Schade, da die anderen Kellner sehr nett waren und das Essen sehr gut schmeckte.

Mal ehrlich: man kommt, setzt sich zu viert an einen freien Tisch und dann kommt der Kellner mit verschnupfter Nase und nörgelt, niemand hätte ihn gefragt, ob es erlaubt sei, sich zu setzen. Gut, kann man machen, wenn es irgendwo steht, dass das die Regel ist und es nicht gerade sonntags 22.30 Uhr ist. Lass ich mir nicht gefallen. Wohlgemerkt, der Laden hatte noch mindestens eine Stunde geöffnet. Fazit: Selten so einen arroganten Kellner/Wirt gesehen. Hier ist der Gast kein Gast sondern Bittsteller. Und dann soll man noch Geld da lassen? Nö! Direkt weiter gezogen und einen wunderschönen Cocktail-Abend gehabt. Die Südstadt bietet ja so viele Alternativen.

Unsere Freunde, die in Köln leben, haben uns dieses Restaurant als ihr „local“ sehr empfohlen. Die Nähe zu Frankreich spürt man deutlich in Köln, das nehmen wir als Hanseaten sofort wahr. Die Speisenkarte liest sich fantastisch, ich würde hier auch gerne regelmäßig speisen dürfen. Wir haben uns für Muscheln klassisch mit Frittes und den Loup des Mer entschieden. Das Essen war sehr gut. Die Getränke, Wein und Cremant, waren auch sehr gut. Das Lokal ist einfach und gemütlich. Man sitzt an Holztischen, die schon viel Öl aufgesaugt haben. Der freundliche Kellner, der hier schon fast 2 Jahrzehnten arbeitet, hat uns über die Zeit erzählt, wo in dem Lokal noch Boule gespielt wurde. Das erklärte auch die befremdliche Rampe und leider gefährliche Stolperfalle mitten durch das Restaurant. Corona hat viel verändert, die zwei Boulebahnen werden jetzt ebenfalls für Gäste mit Appetit genutzt. Wir würden gerne wiederkommen. Vielen Dank!

Die Gerichte sind sehr schmackhaft, der Service ist sehr bemüht. Tolle Stimmung, leider phasenweise zu laut für eine Unterhaltung. Trotzdem sehr zu empfehlen....

Hatte mal 5 STERNE vergeben, aber heute war das leider nix. Die Gänselebermousse schmeckte nur nach Gelatine, von der eigentlich zarten Kaninchenleber war kaum etwas übrig, weil sie viel zu überladen war mit Tomaten, Pilzen etc. Der gewohnte lockere Service war heute in weiblicher Form nur rotzig.

Eine einladende Speisekarte und gutes Essen. Nette Bedienung. Schlichtes Ambiente. Leider stehen die Tische draußen eng beieinander, so dass man am Nachbartisch alles mithören kann. Zudem sind die Zweiertische sehr klein (!).

Eines meiner Lieblinge in Köln. Noch nie hatte ich hier Essen, dass mir nicht geschmeckt hat. Ich hab Allergien und auch die wurden immer berücksichtigt und mir wurden Gerichte ohne großes Tamtam einfach abgeändert. Jederzeit, das ganze Jahr hinweg eine echte Empfehlung aus voller Überzeugung. Preis Leistung stimmt hier total, man bekommt ausgezeichnetes Essen zu passenden Preisen. Die Kellner*innen runden das Ganze mit einer guten Prise kölschem Humor ab. ;)

Das Essen ist wirklich top und wird nur noch vom Service übertroffen. Unglaublich freundliche Menschen die uns bedient haben und somit eine gute Basis für einen tollen Abend geschaffen haben. Auch wenn die Straße nah ist, ist es trotzdem recht ruhig. Die Auswahl hat viel Fisch zu bieten und alles ist wirklich lecker. Weinberatung auf den Punkt. Die Portionen sind groß.

Ich kann nicht glauben, dass ich euch noch keine Bewertung da gelassen habe: ich als Foodie kann guten Gewissens sagen, dass das Hardy Kugel eines der besten Restaurants der Stadt ist. Hammer Service, bestes Essen (Fleisch, Fisch und Veggie). Besonders Fisch- und Meeresfrüchteliebhaber kommen hier auf ihre Kosten. Toller Wein, super Atmosphäre und beste Muscheln der Stadt (Linguine mit schwertmuscheln und Lammhaxe unbedingt probieren) Tausend dank an euch!!

Wir waren am Ostersonntag hier, es war bumsvoll. Das Essen war absolut köstlich, der Wein ok bis gut und preislich ebenso angemessen wie das Essen. Der Service war sehr freundlich, aber etwas überfordert. Als wir mit dem Chef, Kim Rieger, darüber ins Gespräch kamen (wir wussten gar nicht, dass es der Chef ist), war die sofortige, nette und sehr souveräne Antwort, dass unter diesen Umständen das Dessert aufs Haus geht. Wir kennen von einigen Restaurants deutlich unsouveränere Reaktionen. Auch die hier geäußerte Kritik an seiner Freundlichkeit können wir nicht nachvollziehen, vielleicht gilt hier auch das Motto, dass es aus dem Wald hinaus schallt, wie man hinein ruft. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall bald wieder, danke für den schönen Abend !
