Hansls Holzofenpizzeria in Bayreuth

I studied abroad in Bayreuth in 2011, and I am returning to review this pizzeria because I ate here every other day during my stay. Maybe my review is outdated, but Hansls holds such a special place in my heart that I had to confirm it was still open. The staff was über-friendly, the atmosphere was relaxing, and the pizza was delicious. I have been talking about Hansls for almost 15 years.

Today, I had an overall positive experience in a small but very nice restaurant. The restaurant boasts a pleasant atmosphere and a surprisingly large selection of pizzas, sure to offer something for every taste. From classic versions like Margherita or Salami to more unusual combinations – every pizza lover will find something they like here. The ingredients were absolutely convincing: fresh tomatoes, aromatic cheese, crisp vegetables, and high-quality toppings ensure an all-around successful taste experience. One small disappointment, however, was the pizza dough, which unfortunately seemed a bit too dry and rather bland in flavor. It would be desirable to tweak the recipe a bit – perhaps by letting the dough rest a bit longer or using a bit more olive oil in the dough to give it more flavor and bite. The seating in the restaurant is quite limited, which can lead to waiting times during peak times or make you feel a bit cramped. Therefore, the restaurant is only partially suitable for a cozy evening with a larger group. Another downside is that you can only pay in cash. In times when cashless payments have become the norm, this is rather impractical. What was absolutely outstanding, however, was the service. The two ladies who served me today deserve the highest praise. Friendly, attentive, professional, yet warm—that's what service should be! Despite a few minor hiccups, they made the visit a very pleasant experience. Thank you very much!

Solid stone-baked pizza (the dough was just a bit too crumbly/cookiey for our taste), also available with custom toppings. The toppings are just right. Super friendly staff, draft beer, and fair prices! :)

An absolutely fantastic pizzeria! The pizza was incredibly delicious—crispy crust, fresh ingredients, and simply a delight. The staff was also super warm and friendly; you immediately feel welcome. The value for money is unbeatable! A quick note: Payment is cash only, so it's best to remember this beforehand.

We went to Hansel's Stone Oven Pizzeria in Bayreuth today and were very disappointed! I had asked about the price over the phone, and the man on the phone told me it would be around €28. When I got there, I was charged €34.30. Since it was a pizza that wasn't listed on the menu, we couldn't calculate the price ourselves – which is exactly why I called ahead. I had €33 with me – more than the stated price plus a €3 tip (10% for pickup). When I explained that was why I only had that amount, the response was immediately unfriendly. Instead of showing understanding, three employees intervened. Server 1 immediately told me to get more money. I suggested they could (reluctantly, but okay) leave out part of the order. Again, the response was unfriendly: That wasn't possible; it was done on purpose. Then server 2 intervened and confirmed that I should look for more money in the car or somewhere else. Finally, the pizza maker was also asked. I explained the situation, that it was about €1.30, but he said, in a truly rude manner, that he couldn't just give me the money. Card payments weren't possible at all, otherwise I would have solved the problem that way. In the end, the colleague I had spoken to on the phone was even yelled at in front of everyone else for estimating the price. I was accused of not being able to rely on an estimate. I was quoted €28, but it actually came out to €34.30 – I think you'd be more likely to expect €28-31. Server 1 then canceled the salad and made a huge deal out of it. When I paid and said goodbye, I didn't even get a goodbye. Now imagine: Three people got involved and treated me and the poor colleague on the phone rudely – all because of €1.30. If they had simply said, "Sorry, poor communication, it's fine, enjoy your meal, see you next time," I would have remembered this gesture, tipped well every time, and, above all, continued ordering there. And now for the bill: They wanted €1.30 more from me at all costs – and will therefore lose our business in the future. We get food there about twice a year, so that's no longer the case for the next few years. If you calculate that: about €200–300 in lost revenue for us alone in the next three years. On top of that, I'll be spending my money at other pizzerias in the future – and sharing my experience publicly in the area and here. In short: I charged €1.30 more in the short term, but lost significantly more in the long term. Bayreuth has plenty of alternatives that are cheaper, have better toppings, and, above all, are friendlier to customers.

One of the best pizzerias in Bayreuth, with a huge selection, and if you're looking for something special, you can simply have your own custom order created. The topping options are truly diverse, and there's truly something for everyone :) A large vegetarian selection, too. Unfortunately, no vegan pizza, so Bayreuth needs to catch up 😔 The atmosphere is also quite nice; not too many seats, so you'll have to be quick.

Truly a fantastic experience! The pizzas are excellent, the salads fresh and lovingly prepared. We were particularly impressed by the friendly service – both the cook and the waitress were incredibly warm and accommodating. You immediately feel welcome here. A tiny restaurant hidden away in a corner but such delicious food! Only a few table inside but more outside for enjoying in warmer weather. Quick & friendly service. Pizza was super tasty & dessert was perfect. Highly recommend.

I don't normally eat pizza but this pizzeria was amazing. One can assemble your pizzas and I love vegetables. And here they are fresh.

Update after 2 years, after we were there for dinner yesterday: I still really like pizza and I would definitely recommend it for pick-up. 👍 No food on site, however. A reserved table for two means you sit with two strangers at a table for four with the backs of the people at the next table at your own table. The waitress couldn't pour wheat beer, the wheat was all over the glass and was served in such a way that the whole table was wet. They can't keep up in the kitchen and the constant pick-up traffic also contributes to a very loud atmosphere. Card payments will not yet be possible in 2025; this should urgently be overhauled. In the future I will only order for pickup, the timing is perfect if you call in time and the pizza is very good! ------------------------------------- Review two years ago: Great pizza that I always enjoy. The staff is very friendly and always on point. There are no waiting times here if you order for a specific time. What I don't like is that you have to order "FRESH" champions because otherwise you'll get canned champions on your pizza. (Bah!!) - Luckily most of the employees remember to ask what kind you want, but I also had to eat the canned champions because I wasn't asked and they were automatically included. For me, the fresh ones are always on there (as is the case in almost all pizzerias), but maybe that's just a personal taste. I'd be happy to give the fifth star as soon as you can pay by card here, that's simply no longer up to date!!!

Very good. I chose the restaurant because of the good reviews here. And wasn't disappointed! The tuna pizza was great: wafer-thin, crispy base, lots of onions. Plus it was quick and the price was right too. 👍

We found this quaint little pizzeria and loved it. It hides a bit in a corner, but that also fits the atmosphere. There are 4 small tables that can each accommodate 2 guests. So register in advance or bring your luck. There are several beer table sets outside with plenty of space. It was too cold for us at 5°. The pizzas fresh from the wood oven are super delicious. The young staff is very friendly and attentive. Planned again for the next visit to Bayreuth.

The pizza and service deserve 5 stars, without question, get pizza here about twice a month. However, the fact that payment is EXCLUSIVELY cash forces me to deduct two stars...guys, that doesn't work anymore these days

Very good food. Most of the time you always eat the same pizza. It's different here, creative combinations invite you to try them out. And you won't be disappointed.

Pizza was good. It was take out, therefore the pizza was not cut but the flavor was not bad. I would recommend it and obviously I would come back someday!

A small and comfortably furnished restaurant! I received a very warm welcome. The pizza I ordered came after 5-10 minutes and was very tasty. Above all, the price-performance ratio is unbeatable, considering that the pizza cost €9.70. I can warmly recommend a visit to everyone! I will definitely come again. 😎

We were three adults who came to enjoy some pizza. We ordered one pizza with broccoli, one with seafood, and one with ham. All three pizzas were exceptionally delicious, crispy, thin, and full of flavor. After the pizza, we had a dessert with truffles, which was beautifully presented and incredibly tasty. A perfect 10 squared! I highly recommend this restaurant to all pizza lovers who prefer thin crusts and flavorful pizzas. Prices, service, and friendliness – everything deserves a solid 10 out of 10 ⭐

The best pizza in Bayreuth by far. Sitting here in the evening sun and enjoying one of the brilliant pizzas makes up for every day of work, no matter how hard. My personal recommendation is number 12 with fresh mushrooms. The service is very friendly and attentive. But you can only pay in CASH, cards are not accepted.

Sweet little pizzeria If you like thin crust you will most likely like/love this pizza. I find the dough delicious and crispy. The tomato sauce is fruity and spicy. Toppings are fresh and can be chosen individually (just tick what you would like on your pizza), of course you can also order a classic pizza from the menu. And if you get a seat inside you can even watch it being prepared. I just love this pizza. And the service has always been super friendly... My favorite pizza in Bayreuth 😁

Hansl's Pizzeria in Bayreuth used to be a safe bet for good pizza, but that seems to have changed. The two pizzas I ordered to take away were a bitter disappointment. The dough was dry and the topping no longer had the taste that I used to remember. Overall, the quality has dropped significantly. It seems as if the focus on freshness and taste has been lost here. Under these circumstances, a visit is no longer worth it. It's a shame, because that was different.

Pizza really good, salads a disaster.

Wir waren sehr enttäuscht. Es wird massiv an den Zutaten gespart: Champignons und Paprika waren Konserven, frische Champignons gab es nur gegen Aufpreis, was angesichts des Preises inakzeptabel ist. Mozzarella nur in hauchdünnen Spuren. Als wir das bemängelten, hieß es lapidar, das sei die Standardmenge und wer mehr wolle, müsse das bei der Bestellung sagen und einen weiteren Aufpreis zahlen. Die Thunfischpizza war trocken, zumal auch am Sugo gespart wurde. Die tollen Bewertungen im Netz können wir nicht nachvollziehen.

Just bad pizza. Canned side dishes, little tomato sauce and little mozzarella. Dough doesn't taste good either. The service was snippy when we criticized it.

Miserable pizza: canned mushrooms and peppers, fresh mushrooms only for an additional charge, and that at 14 EUR! Tiny blobs of mozzarella, normal quantity here too, only for an extra charge. Not recommended.

We spontaneously ate here while passing through. The pizza didn't really suit our taste, the base is very thin, almost like a tarte flambée and the pizza wasn't very tasty either. The service was very friendly. I wouldn't eat there again.

Ham onion pizza is really the best choice here! Best pizzeria in Bayreuth. Extremely thin and crispy dough thanks to a real wood-fired oven. The Italian salad with yogurt dressing also tastes very good.

The pizza calzone was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside and well filled. We had a large salad with it. You could choose from 3 dressings. Service great. Gladly again 😃
