WALHALL – Restaurant im Festspielpark in Bayreuth

The food was delicious, the place is nice in a great location. The only thing I disliked was no soap nor anything to dry your hands after washing in the restroom. Hope they pay more attention to these details.

We only went there for a meal. Not for the first time, but definitely the last. Unfortunately, the menu is becoming increasingly unimaginative yet more expensive. There were two main course options for vegetarians: 1. Bread dumplings in mushroom cream sauce €20 2. Lentil stew €15 Due to a food allergy, mushrooms were out of the question. So I ordered the lentil stew. When it arrived, it looked like vegetable soup. The not-so-large bowl wasn't even half full. A few lentils, pieces of half a potato, and half a carrot were floating in a clear broth. No joke, the bowl was empty after 10 spoonfuls. So was my stomach. The other people at the table also thought it was a starter. The server I mentioned to her mumbled, "Oh, I'll pass it on," and was never seen again. The dessert portion of apple fritters for €9 was twice the size. I had to pay the full price, I left the restaurant hungry and will not recommend or visit it again.

I studied abroad in Bayreuth in 2011, and I am returning to review this pizzeria because I ate here every other day during my stay. Maybe my review is outdated, but Hansls holds such a special place in my heart that I had to confirm it was still open. The staff was über-friendly, the atmosphere was relaxing, and the pizza was delicious. I have been talking about Hansls for almost 15 years.

My husband and I were here shortly before New Year's. We arrived just before lunchtime, around 2 p.m., and were treated with such kindness and attention. We were frozen from our hike and hungry. (Hence the hungry photo.) The landlady and chef are simply welcoming, and the food was fantastic. For us northern Germans living in Berlin, the non-alcoholic beer selection was fantastic (required for locals). We'll be back on our next trip there.

Excellent food, freshly prepared, superb and attentive service. Would gladly return.
