Hafeneck in Timmendorfer Strand

If you want to eat fish sandwiches, you have to pay extra for the tartar sauce. 1 teaspoon of tartar sauce (I didn't have any more) costs €1.40. This means that the rolls are more expensive than at the other stands. Until now, the Hafeneck was our regular snack bar, but not anymore.

We have been customers for years and even came to you from Olpenitz once this year and once last year. Last year and before, the roll was always delicious, inexpensive and well topped. This year it was the most expensive and most disappointing baked fish for us in the seven days on the Baltic Sea. There used to be a piece of lemon with the fish, but not this time. Remoulade for €1.40 was hardly noticeable... phew. Unfortunately we won't be coming back, which I find really sad. After all, the employee was very nice and the surroundings were beautifully decorated.

The herring was delicious, as was the roll. But I find it outrageous that I have to pay €1.40 for tartar sauce that comes with the fish fry. While eating we realized it was 1 teaspoon of tartar sauce. A total of €5.90 for herring rolls. Hafeneck used to be our regular snack bar, but that's over.

Update Oct. 2024 The crew has changed - maybe the owner too? I have no idea what happened there. Now you have to pay extra for sauces on the fish sandwiches (!). Reason given: “That’s because some people are allergic”. Aha. The most expensive portion of sauce costs €2.60 (!!), and you want ketchup with the fries at least €0.60. On the herring roll there was 1x salad, onion rings, herring - that's it. It was a pretty dry story. Good thing there's an alternative next door. 2022 The Hafeneck is simply great. A fried fish sandwich is also delicious for breakfast after swimming. The new seating area is also very practical

Favorite fish stall there's nothing to complain about.

During a short stopover at the idyllic harbor we treated ourselves to a crab sandwich. The location is outstanding and just a few minutes walk from the beach. Unfortunately, €8.50 per piece is very expensive if you only get a baked roll for it. In terms of taste, everything was okay, but that's to be expected for these prices.

Location with the best location in the middle of Niendorf harbor. Plenty of outdoor space to enjoy a snack with a view of the harbor when the weather is good. Good quality at normal prices, considering the location to the harbor and the Baltic Sea in general. The price labeling alone should be a little clearer, then the customer would also realize that, for example, the sauces for the fish and chips are charged extra. This is generally ok, but it should be clearly stated.

We always enjoyed being with you (for many years). A great location, right at the harbor and great employees (Winnie), always friendly and with a nice saying. And EVERYTHING was spotlessly clean! Now we are very disappointed, the staff are taciturn and the dishes/glasses that were returned are piled up on the punch/mulled wine container. The tables were not wiped and some of the blankets were lying on the floor (after a two-hour walk the blanket was still under the table). Overfilled ashtrays 🤢. Everything used to be better, including the Hafeneck 😉.

You can get the best fish sandwiches here. Of course you can also find something for other tastes here, the currywurst is also great. The location at the harbor invites you to linger.

It's very easy to endure here. The two of us enjoyed 2 baked fish rolls, 1 sweet potato fries and 1 crep on the adjacent steps. With one drink we paid around 30 euros. Very fair for the location and quality. The food was consistently great and fresh and served very well. The seats are beautifully designed and have blankets. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Gladly again.

We had 2 fresh fish rolls there today (matjes and salmon), the rolls were still warm and crispy. Only the portion of fries under the ketchup mountain was a small point of criticism when you have a 3 year old child with you :-)

We went there because of the many positive reviews. Unfortunately, the fried fish rolls and fish nuggets didn't convince us. Despite the extra expensive dollop of sauce, they had no taste. But there is a dark, crispy breading and a lot of air between the fish and the breading (I've never seen anything like this before). I found the man to be unfriendly when I placed the order, no hello, no thank you, the beeper slammed on the table without saying a word, and he looked grim. Definitely just depends on the day...but unfortunately that influenced my impression.

Fish rolls simple, herring, onions, a bit of salad but delicious. €4.50 is still possible. A dollop of tartar sauce costs €1.40 extra - that's far too expensive. Atmosphere at the harbor but simple seating.

We come here regularly from Hamburg to eat fish & chips with the unbeatable special mayo (well, maybe also for a walk on the beach...but mainly for the F&C 😉). They are simply the best around! Definitely try them out, highly recommended!

Leeeeeecker. We were there easily 12 times during our 10-day stay - at lunchtime, in the evening... and I looked forward to it every time. EVERYTHING is super delicious. All sauces are great. Portion sizes great. Writing about this makes my mouth water again and I would like to get in the car straight away and drive the almost 800 km there just to eat there. Even if there is a long line: DON'T be DETERMED, it goes faster than you think. The system with the beeper after you have ordered is also great. BEWARE OF THE SEAGULLS... I had already read about them in the reviews. Many others apparently don't. There were many victims, BUT (this can also be confirmed, as I noticed it myself): if the seagulls have successfully stolen your food, just let them know. There are free replacements. For that reason alone, this “fish shack” deserves 5/5 stars. Definitely try it out if you are in Niendorf and the surrounding area!!

We were here mostly in the evening to end the day. However, the corner sometimes closes earlier, so you shouldn't be late. Recommended for a small snack or a cold beer!

The harbor love is simply wonderful. Always nice people behind the counter. Various drinks and food that can be enjoyed on site with a view of the harbor. I like the place very much

Update: 9/6/24 For me, the “Hafeneck” snack bar was always the best place for fish sandwiches on the Baltic Sea. However, when I was there with friends yesterday, I was really disappointed after my visit. My fries with truffle mayo were good. Crisp fries, the mayo was tasty and the portion size was fine. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with my fish sandwich (brathering). The roll was relatively small, the fish and the tartar sauce were a bit tasteless and relatively expensive. Very unfortunate. Update: After I was only partially satisfied last time, I took advantage of my invitation yesterday. The fish sandwich was nothing compared to last time! It was tasty and a good size! To test my overall impression again, I'll buy fries with truffle mayo again later. These could have been hotter, but were consistently fine. I'd love to come back.

We've been vacationing nearby 5 times. We cycle or walk to Hafeneck almost every day. No matter whether it's fries, fish sandwiches, wine, etc... it's always top. It's hard to imagine a vacation without Hafeneck. Keep it up.

An absolute “must”! when you are at Timmendorfer Strand. It was our first time there, inspired by the reviews and we weren't disappointed. We had a crab roll and fish & chips each with the gourmet tartar sauce. It was so delicious that I had to eat a second roll straight away. And the service is attentive, friendly and totally authentic. Thank you very much, we will definitely come back.

Super tasty and not too expensive.

We ate two sweet potato fries and a fish sandwich. Both were very tasty. However, I think over €20 is a lot. The prices are only on the side facing the promenade. For me, a fish sandwich requires remolade. Here it costs 1.5€ extra... I also think that the truffle mayo on the fries is too expensive at €2.4.

It's like everywhere, there are snack bars and snack bars. And this one is one of the highly recommended ones. I enjoyed a herring roll and a beer in the morning. In the evening still fried fish. The other guests' food also looked great. You can sit comfortably. Thanks. Oh yes, watch out for the seagull ;-). This stole my second herring roll. At that point at the latest I was exposed as a tourist, if not when I ordered a herring roll.

Delicious fish sandwich eaten for an “okay” price. But charging €1.40 for remolade and then putting a touch of it on the fish sandwich is more than a rip-off. €15.45 for 2 fish meatball rolls and 1 Alster. To be honest, more than too much in my opinion. If we had known that it cost so much and had so little on it, we would definitely have done without it. It's a shame you're alienating customers. Oh and it would be nice if the employees had change and you weren't forced to give a "tip".

Service great.... Food great.... Ambience great.... an incredibly great place where you can enjoy your food and/or your drink with a great view of the harbor. The staff is always super friendly, very quick and always have a smile for you (lots of people can follow an example) It's just a lot of fun coming to you because everything fits here. Thank you for your efforts... we really appreciate it. We are already looking forward to our next visit with you!

At the harbor in Niendorf, a popular spot to get a small snack on the go. There are seating areas in the area and the beach is about 100 m away. It's a good idea to shield your fish sandwiches from the seagulls. They are also happy about a small bite. The prices are still acceptable.

The fish rolls (homemade fish cakes and pollack shreds) were once again very tasty. The only thing that shocked me was the €1.20 on top for the tartar sauce. That wasn't the case the last time I visited and I didn't know it until then.

Very nicely located in the harbor. Only 50 from the sea. Only recommended with a bottle of white wine and a fish sandwich.

I like to have something to eat and drink here, and I can always sit under a parasol and meet friends.

Some of the staff were very unfriendly (not all of them), food (including crepe) was handled without gloves and put on the surface. Longer waiting times. Food was okay, nothing special. No rubbish bins on site, meaning you have to take the leftovers with you or dispose of them with your neighbour. I'll go somewhere else next time.

It's nice to sit on some somewhat improvised benches directly at the harbor. Nice atmosphere. Very enterprising staff. Long queues for ordering and collection (early evening on a working day during the summer holiday season). Prices, e.g. B. for fish sandwiches - at first glance - OK. But then the sauces are added on top, which I don't think is OK. This is part of a good roll and should be included. An additional €1.40 (apparently increased at some point recently) for tartar sauce is not okay, no matter how you spin it. A splash of sauce should be included in the price, like everywhere else. Normal small rolls are used as rolls, but there are more in this regard elsewhere. The positive thing is that there is a leaf of lettuce on the bun. The fish cake wasn't as good and honestly didn't taste like anything. All ice cream flavors were sold out except for 2, without this being indicated in advance on the sign.

Everything was just great...the weather was perfect and we ate comfortably outside. The homemade fish cake was excellently prepared. Very juicy and the subtle note of dill went perfectly. We felt very comfortable and the staff was friendly and helpful. Absolutely recommended!

Not as nice as last year: Dirty tables that are 'swept' after a rain shower, including the ketchup that was on the table, grumpy employees, soggy fries, good herring rolls, abusive regular customers at the next table who friendly put a (dirty) blanket over your shoulder would like...meant nicely but not desired. We'd rather go to the neighbor's. You also sit dry there. A pity!

Have eaten there several times now. Finally found a place where you can get a great fish sandwich even late in the evening. The fries and many other dishes are TOP!! Highly recommended !!

I was at the Hafeneck with my friend earlier and we picked up a portion of fries with nuggets and a fish sandwich. For the price (around €17) the quality was very poor. The fries were tasty, but the portion was tiny - for 10€. The fish roll, on the other hand, was super dry - both the baked roll and the frozen fish were more crunchy and greasy than anything else... So much so, in fact, that my tongue is now torn and burning. :( Not recommended. A few years ago the Hafeneck was really great... Today it's a very big difference :(

Very expensive but super tasty! Beautiful view of the harbor, food is highly recommended! - Fish & Chips, fried fish rolls with raspberry remoulade is excellent. The other fish sandwiches also taste very good. Crispy and fresh! The fries are also great.

Update: On a second visit, everything was as it should be. Finally the price was right and the employees were also very friendly. Luckily the delicious taste hasn't changed. This tasted good right from the start ;) I don't mind paying a little more if something tastes good. What I can't stand is when customers are ripped off. You can't beat it for audacity. The employees don't even know what's on your cost sheets and then leave you out in the cold. We would also be charged €1.40 instead of €1 for an extra roll and tartar sauce for a pollock roll, fried fish rolls and fries. When I pointed this out to the employees, the employee turned around and walked away. Left in, right out. The 2 stars are for the taste of the above-mentioned dishes but the service is the last! The owner should use capable and wanted staff.

We were completely satisfied. It was well attended and we didn't wait long for our food. The service was friendly.

We always enjoyed being here. Yesterday one of the regular customers asked the waitress if she could bring him beer. Her answer: I'm not your n.... The conversation then continued with a few more racist comments. It was so utterly stupid and disgusting that we recommend getting fish sandwiches from your neighbors, they are at least as good and come without racism

Oh well. We arrived at 8am and were told the oven would be turned on. We just wanted salmon rolls. We got it at 8:30 a.m. The “freshly caught” salmon from the lake tasted just as cheap as supermarket discount salmon from the packaging. The portion was also very meager. A very very small roll with a very thin slice of salmon. The price of €5.50 is definitely not justified. Definitely not a recommendation from us. We won't go there again. There are much better fish stalls.

Hello dear owners of Hafeneck in Niendorf. I was with you today and bought myself a pollack and bismark herring roll. I was when I wanted to consume them very disappointed 😞. Rolls sticky, herring and Pollock sliced ​​according to mine “Canned” feelings or "bucket" ??. Herring not pale pink but light gray and the shredded pollack Oh well ? I have to find out that you something the freshness in this area is very has subsided. This was significantly better 2 or 3 years ago. What a pity LG I. Rehr

I saw the many positive reviews and stopped by here on a day trip. The best fish sandwich I ate on my vacation. We recommend! Unfortunately there was no crab roll. But if there are no crabs there, there's nothing you can do. With current prices everywhere, I probably wouldn't have been able to afford it anyway. ^^' But the herring rolls were also delicious. And the remoulade sauce is highly recommended. But be careful of the seagulls! They are right there, you barely have the roll in your hand.

Best fish sandwiches in the region. We go to Timmendorfer Strand once a year and a visit for a delicious fish sandwich is a must. Fish and chips are also great. Good service, nice operation. Keep it up!

During our stay in Niendorf we got something here three times because it was tasty and quick to get and the location, right at the harbor, was great. Fried fish rolls, fish and chips and the sweet potato fries with truffle mayo were super tasty. I can't recommend the currywurst, however, the sauce was strangely thick and sticky. But the snack bar isn't known for currywurst either... ;-)

The "homemade" fish cakes were not good. Small and tastes like nothing. The more expensive delicious tartar sauce was almost non-existent and easily added good flavor. Here on the coast we usually have Remo on a roll. Sorry but way too expensive for that. I was immediately annoyed without any reaction from the staff.

Unfortunately, we had a disappointing experience at your store. The children's ice cream had apparently already been thawed and refrozen, posing a significant risk of salmonella and indicating a broken cold chain. In addition, we were charged €4.80 for a fish sandwich instead of the €3.80 stated on the notice board because the sauce was supposedly extra. Our complaint about the ice cream was not taken seriously at first, and we only got the money back after a discussion. The fish sandwich itself was mediocre and served with ready-made tartar sauce. We are very disappointed and will prefer other providers in the future.

Guter Imbiss, tolle Location direkt am Hafen. Sehr leckere Currywurst. Fischbrötchen werden frisch zubereitet. Wenn man ein Glas Wein bestellt, wird man darauf hingewiesen das es günstiger ist gleich eine Flasche zu kaufen. Das Glas kostet 4,70 € und die Flasche 9,90 €.

Gut gekühlte Getränke, Wein, Bier, Alster ...alles lecker, Dazu ,...Super-Pommes und sehr leckere und frische Fischbrötchen. Die Brötchen werden vor Ort frisch belegt, daher ist nichts vertrocknet und die Brötchen sind nicht "durchgesüfft" ! Egal zu welcher Tageszeit, die Dinger schmecken in allen Varianten wirklich todeslecker ! Die lange Schlange steht zum Beweis. Außerdem kann man dort gut in der Sonnen sitzen und dem Treiben am Hafen zuschauen. Gerne jeden Tag , an welchen man in Niendorf ist .

Great fish sandwiches, always a pleasure! I've been enjoying the friendliness and delicious dishes for over 19 years now and I have to say that things have only gone uphill over the years, never a step back. Thank you, an oasis for the palate.

Das Hafen-Eck ist so eine richtige kult Bude. Man muss da einfach die leckersten Pommes an der Küste essen. Man hat einen schönen Ausblick auf den Hafen. Man wird nett bedient.

Nice little place. The small booth is located directly on the harbor basin and therefore offers a nice view. I drank a hot coffee right in front of the restaurant in the morning and received a Merhweg cup and didn't notice that there was a deposit on it. I handed the cup back and left. The seller came running after me and handed me the deposit money. Commendable attitude in this day and age!!

Whenever we are nearby we have to come here. My favorite: fish and chips with truffle mayo, my son loves the fish rolls - especially the matjes and daughter swears by the sweet potato fries. You can eat through the benches with a view of the harbor - watch out for seagulls 🙄. I have already recommended this snack bar to many people and so far everyone has loved it. We always enjoy being here.

The pollack fillet roll was not enjoyable at all. The price is also outrageous... rolls €0.90 and remoulade €1 extra. Although you had to look for the tartar sauce. Unfortunately not recommended

Mega! Here you can sit comfortably and enjoy your time. The fish sandwiches are so delicious, the service is great and the Niendorf harbor is beautiful anyway! They are also open in the low season. ⚓️👍🏻Keep it up!

This hype is exaggerated. Had 2x fish and chips. Remoulade is actually always included. Will be charged extra there. The dish was ready after 2 minutes. How is that supposed to work fresh? Fish dry because it was in the deep fryer for far too long. The fries were ok. Rarely have I had such a bad dish. Sorry, but definitely not anymore.
