Great restaurant, delicious food, and good service. The only real issue is the price difference between the menu on the website and the one in the restaurant. This misleads guests who do their research online beforehand. Absolutely unfair and unacceptable!

The service was excellent, which is to be expected. The food was very tasty. The tuna tower was a bit of a tad heavy on the palate, but the plaice fillets were plentiful, absolutely boneless, and very tasty. It took a while for the food to arrive, and there was a misunderstanding with our reservation, but that wasn't a problem.

We've been going to Timmendorfer Strand for over 30 years and always enjoy stopping by the Fischkiste! Niendorf without the Fischkiste is unthinkable! - Nowhere else can you find such good and delicious fish dishes as here with the Röger family and their team!

Unfortunately, we were disappointed this year. The pan-fried fish was no longer worth the money in terms of taste. In our opinion, it was also a bit overpriced. A shame.

We had delicious pan-fried fish. It was truly excellent. Delicious fish, delicious fried potatoes, delicious salad, and delicious mustard sauce. Great service; always very attentive. Everything was top-notch. We'll be back again.

At lunch, we enjoyed the large fish platter (for two) with fish soup and ordered two espressos. The waiter was excellent, the fish dishes were very good... everything was classic, just like grandma used to make 🙂. We wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant. Greetings from Switzerland P&Y

Totally overpriced for such small portions. Poorly presented. Fish is always expensive, but they shouldn't skimp on side dishes like potatoes. You should be able to fill yourself up with something. The staff was nice and friendly, but the test was a no-go!

The food is like anything you'd find in a village (maybe that's their thing). I didn't like the service at all. It feels like I'm visiting some drunken, macho uncle in the countryside who talks to me like I'm his relative, constantly brushing my head with his body as if there's no room to pass. One good thing: The wine is delicious. The pinsa isn't pinsa at all. The chef should really learn how to make pinsa. And the fish soup? Even at the weekly market in Düsseldorf, it tastes better than here in the restaurant.

We stopped by on a sunny Saturday afternoon and received a warm welcome. The monthly menu was exceptionally delicious and offered excellent value for money. We were particularly impressed by the consistently friendly and attentive staff. We felt completely at home and would be happy to return.

Unfortunately not! This formerly beautiful, traditional fish restaurant was a disappointment. With such high-priced food, you'd expect a beautifully designed menu in an appealing format. What you get is a very, very large cardboard menu, poorly and cheaply made. The staff prefers to chat rather than serve you. They didn't even ask about drinks beforehand... It was more important for the waiter to watch scantily clad young women on their way and even comment on it. Even after quite some time, we couldn't order and left the restaurant with a "thank you for nothing." Unfortunately, nothing can be rated here... had we eaten, it would probably be different.

I've rarely eaten such good fish; if I had to give it 10 stars, I would have. Christian provides excellent service and has the best recommendations for every guest. There's a plentiful wine selection. In short, simply a dream. We'll be back... A big shout out to the kitchen, they're truly excellent craftsmanship. Absolutely top-notch! You have to eat here.

We reserved a table for two people today and were there for the first time. The welcome was good, the ambiance very nice. All the waiters were very friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately, the food disappointed us. We ordered green herring. It was served plain on a plate and, in size, was more reminiscent of smelt, and it didn't taste like herring either. The fish itself was unseasoned, simply bland. Instead of potato salad, we ordered boiled potatoes. That made it a very dry affair. Perhaps our mistake. Then we had Niendorfer Pannfisch (pan-fried fish). Pannfisch is known for its three types of fish and mustard sauce. Here, there was only one type of fish. Okay, that's probably the Niendorf style; we had the wrong expectations. The mustard sauce was very mustard-heavy, not tasty, and the fish itself, unfortunately, was boring and bland. We won't be coming back; perhaps we're just too demanding.

Very attentive, competent, and friendly staff. Unfortunately, the fish on the menu of the month wasn't much more than pan-fried fish for my taste. A real shame for such a renowned fish restaurant and the price. Everything else was delicious. But if I came just for the fish... mmm. Asparagus and strawberries are also delicious elsewhere. Fresh fish is probably too expensive!

From the exterior, we were not sure about this restaurant. But as soon as we sat down we felt very welcome. The service was professional and courteous. The local seafood was absolutely fresh and delicious. Nothing fancy. Just very good and traditional. Highly recommended!

I've known this restaurant for almost 30 years and have never been disappointed. Delicious fish dishes, good wines, and very friendly and attentive service. Prices are reasonable.

This review was written in September 2024, but unfortunately, I forgot to post it back then. During our last vacation in Scharbeutz in April 2024, we discovered the Fischkiste by chance and were very pleased. In August 2024, we visited Scharbeutz again to celebrate my birthday. A few weeks in advance, we reserved a table by the window in the Fischkiste. A week before, my husband called again and mentioned my birthday. We were explicitly promised a nice table. On August 28th, the day finally arrived. An extremely hot day with temperatures well over 30 degrees Celsius. We had to spend ages looking for a parking space and considered postponing our restaurant visit. Since we assumed the staff had put a lot of effort into the decorations and table selection, we went anyway. The reservation was known, but there was no table by the window, nor was there a congratulations. We were seated in the main room, right next to the waiting staff's aisle. Every full and empty plate was carried directly past our table. Because of the heat, we first ordered a bottle of water. That's all we got; we weren't asked, nor were we in the mood for it. My husband ordered a rump steak from the Booster Grill, which he enjoyed immensely, while I had a baked plaice fillet. You had to hunt for it among the spinach and hollandaise sauce. If you found it, you'd bite into a piece of completely dry fish. We skipped our dessert (which, by the way, wasn't offered either) and headed back as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, as we left the restaurant, the owner ignored us completely, so we couldn't get our complaint across. He didn't even say goodbye. We'll gladly do without that now, too.

We discovered this restaurant for ourselves. There is something for everyone on the menu. I love fish and wanted to eat a lot of fish on vacation on the Baltic Sea. I wasn't disappointed. But there were also delicious meat dishes for my husband. The location at the harbor is great and super practical for us as guests in the neighboring house 4 harbor times. The service was also very attentive. You can tell that it is an owner-managed restaurant.

We hosted a wonderful birthday party in the fish box. We had previously discussed the menu with the owner, Mr. Röger. The table was stylishly set when we arrived. The service was professional, quick and attentive throughout the entire evening. The food and the ambience impressed us and our guests (“Brilliant!”). Behind the colossally large menu lies a small and very fine selection of delicious dishes. Tip: the menu with starter, main course and dessert. During asparagus season with asparagus soup, asparagus with pollack fillet and strawberry tiramisu. Yummy! Plus nice, courteous service and a beautiful view over the harbor.

Although I was impressed by the service and ambience, I'm still giving my rating with a focus on the food, since that's what I was there for. My redfish was boring, the bit of tartar sauce was almost tasteless and the fried potatoes were too salty. The whole thing cost 35 euros. Ok, Niendorfer Hafen is a little more expensive, but in my opinion the price/performance ratio doesn't match. Unfortunately, next time I will want to choose a different restaurant.

Wow...that was a treat ....the food was excellent. They were fresh ingredients and the menu came to the table hot. Very lovingly prepared. The staff very friendly and which I personally found really great that you asked whether you were satisfied and whether you could still do something good. Very attentive. To the ambience ... friendly and bright. For the name of the location "Potato crate", the decoration could have been made more original.

Upscale fish restaurant in a great ambience. I had 3 plaice fillets with well-seasoned potato salad. The fish was very good. The portions are not too small and, in conjunction with the very good quality, they also fit the price. The service was very attentive and friendly. It's a shame that you have to pay for something like switching from potato salad to fried potatoes. We paid €87 for 1x fish soup, 2 fish dishes, 1x beer, 1x wine and 1x water. Appropriate. Overall, a pleasant evening. We'll be back. Reservations are essential on weekends.

The potatoes were tasteless, there are varieties that taste more intense and not so bland. The fish cake made from precious fish was not properly cooked through, it should have been crispier. The wardrobe is far too small and too confusing. We had to search for our jackets and coats (which were kindly taken from us at reception) for over 10 minutes and rummage through other people's coats and jackets. On this point, this restaurant is not recommended.

We were 4 persons and had a great dinner here. The fish, the soups, the starters, wine, desserts and service were all superb. Our waiter was funny and went out of his way to make us feel welcome (he called our table “The Americans” even though two of us were German and the other two - my wife and me - were American). He told us he would get us more potatoes if we wanted them (their potatoes were delicious) and he frequently checked in on us to make sure we got everything we wanted. Great restaurant, highly recommend.

Right on the harbor promenade. Very friendly staff. The dishes are prepared really tasty. Not a cheap snack bar, but an upscale restaurant with some prominence in the past. We'll come back here. You should reserve in advance.

We were there today with the family including two small children. A very, very good service & good food (veggie was also available). We felt very comfortable. Gutes Essen jedoch Portionsgröße für den Preis leider nicht gerechtfertigt. Tagliatelle mit 7 Gambas für 35 Euro finde ich schon recht stattlich. Da ich von der Portionsgröße leider nicht satt wurde, habe ich mir noch eine Kartoffelsuppe mit Krabben bestellt welche mich jedoch geschmacklich leider nicht überzeugt hat. Personal ist dort sehr nett und zuvorkommend-da kann man sich nicht beschweren.

During our short vacation, we went to the Fischkiste two evenings in a row. We enjoyed it last year so much that we were there again this year. Great food in a pleasant atmosphere.

Das war rundherum NICHTS! Bestellung mit dem Hinweis auf einen Geburtstag. Der Eingangsmensch fragte dann auch beflissen, wer denn Geburtstag habe, um dann vollmundig zu erklären, dass "man etwas vorbereitet" habe. Die Vorbereitung bestand dann darin, dass wir einen Tisch bekommen haben in einem Teil der Restauration, der eine Lufttemperatur nahe einem Saunagang auswies. Nach der Bestellung von Vorspeise, Hauptspeise und Getränken kam dann zunächst die Vorspeise, ohne dass von Getränken etwas zu sehen war. Die Dame, die dann irgendwann mit den Getränken aufschlug und sah, dass wir die Vorspeisen schon fast vertilgt hatten, fand kein Wort der Entschuldigung oder Erklärung für diese etwas ungewöhnliche Reihenfolge. Im Hintergrund konnten wir dann - das war spannend - miterleben, wie eine Kellnerin erkennbar genervt mit ihren Kollegen schimpfte und dauernd etwas zum Meckern hatte. Erfreulicherweise war die Qualität des Essens erträglich, ohne dass das den megaenttäuschenden Abend retten konnte. Wir bekamen dann mit, dass an den anderen Tischen den zahlenden Gästen noch einen Hausschnaps oder einen Kaffee angeboten wurde, das wurde bei uns .... vergessen? Oder war diese Abfuhr das, was man für den Geburtstag vorbereitet hatte? Sorry, trotz des erträglichen Essens für die Zukunft ein absolutes NoGo, dieses Lokal hat den Abstieg zu einer Touristenschwemme mit lustlosem Personal perfekt hinbekommen.

Fish restaurant at the harbor on the street. Everyone who had rank and name was probably already here. 2:30 p.m. in March we got a seat straight away. Service was super pleasant, friendly and attentive. 1. Simple dish Panfish with fried potatoes The fried potatoes were only lukewarm, the fish, on the other hand, was fried to perfection and hot, the mustard sauce was very good, almost too strong. 2. Simple dish of fine fish cake with potato salad. The meatball was really nothing, totally dry and tasteless. Price €€€.

If fish then fish box... Very tasty but quality has its price. The service was friendly and helpful. We sat in the covered terrace by the window, which has a bit of a Baltic Sea feeling, but not exaggerated. Looking out the window you don't really see much of the lake, but rather a crowded sidewalk with tourists and cars stuck in traffic... But the restaurant can't do anything about that. All in all, highly recommended for a very short lunch break with high standards...
