Super friendly service. Very tasty food. Gladly again.

We ate in this wonderful restaurant with the entire family and everyone from young to old was very happy. We were particularly pleased with the large selection of non-alcoholic cocktails and wines and there was even Jever Fun on tap. The food was good and the service was excellent. Diverse menu also for vegetarians and children. The only thing missing is a disabled toilet and we would only come here for our family celebrations. Thank you for the successful evening.

As always, it was nice and the selection of dishes is very large. We had a delicious potato soup as a starter and the men's cream as dessert. I love kale and chose this dish for that reason. It was tasty, but I would have liked a little more cabbage and fewer fried potatoes. The kale itself was quite fatty. Apart from these minor negative points, it was a very nice stay!

The large Kiepenkerl is certainly one of the most authentic restaurants in Münster, which represents and presents Westphalian cuisine and hospitality. Modern interpretation of Westphalian cuisine with fine wines and other cold drinks, both alcoholic and anti-alcoholic, round off the offering. We had a spontaneous meal with children on Friday evening. The child-friendliness must be particularly praised! As soon as they came in, both children received a bag of painting supplies. There is also a nice menu for the little guests (normal dishes, not just fries and nuggets). The service was extremely nice and attentive, the food was very good and not expensive! The schnitzel was not very seasoned, but that is really complaining at a high level. Absolutely recommended!

Very cozy inn with a regional and creative menu and many vegetarian and vegan dishes. The regional selection of dishes is positive.

We wanted a local eatery serving traditionalish German food, with modern flair. They had lot and lots of vegetarian options, which two of our meat-eaters chose. The vegetarian schnitzel was amazing, as were the traditional egg-pasta noodles with cheese. The pesto dish was also very good from the vegetarian menu. The meat eaters were not as pleased, but they did not choose well and got the same dish. The drinks were good, including very large hot chocolates and good mulled/glü wine. I would absolutely eat here again. There is a second floor with difficult stairs, so keep that in mind for anyone with limited mobility.

Was at the Großer Kiepenkerl on December 11th at lunchtime. It comes as no surprise that this is more of a mass process during Advent. I ate the duck there - at least for €33 (they don't have goose there anymore). In terms of taste, it was pure disappointment. The skin of the duck was brown and somewhat crispy, but the meat was quite good and tender. But in terms of taste, the roast was bland and more or less without any taste. Same with the sauce. This evening we had duck legs from Käfer from the refrigerated counter (not frozen) at ALDI (!) and they tasted three times better including the sauce. Update 13/16/2024: I tried the duck again (unfortunately there is no goose) - this time the duck was a little tastier, but not crispy at all and overall again a disappointment. The price-performance ratio is not right here at all!

Wonderfully delicious, fresh food. Great selection on card. Also lots of veggie offers. I really like the selection of non-alcoholic drinks (including non-alcoholic wine, non-alcoholic Aperol Spritz and much more). Very very child friendly! The service is attentive and friendly. Toilets were very clean today. Update after a few months: We really enjoy going there, there is always something new/seasonal on the menu alongside the tried and tested dishes. There is now also a gluten-free menu. The service is always really great!

We spontaneously got a table yesterday. Schnitzel, duck and pepperpotthast were ordered. The food came very quickly. Pepperpotthast was ok. Schnitzel was boring: small or thick and not plated, breading not airy, overall a bit dry, probably not cooked in a pan but in a combi steamer. The fried potatoes that came with it were well-done, without bacon and, if at all, very little onion. Duck leg black in places but the skin totally soft and limp. For just under €37 I would have expected a crust, disappointing. The waitress was very nice, understood the complaint about the duck, and there was a glass of wine on the house.

The food was good. The service was nice. Since it was full, it was very loud. All in all, I couldn't have imagined the visit to be any better.

We have been to the Großer Kiepenkerl several times and so far we have always been satisfied. On our last visit last week, I ordered a vegan dish (which was marked as such on the menu). However, the waiter simply ordered this in the vegetarian option. So to all vegans: keep asking.

Great, simple, traditional food for an honest price. Thoughtfully decorated in a homely, historical feel. Lots of nutcrackers! Staff is thoughtful, albeit a little overbearing for my taste but I think that’s a personal preference. I like the concept with purely local products, sustainably sourced. You’ll find schnitzel, bratwurst, kartoffeln and more local treats. Price included main course, alcoholic drinks and coffee afterwards.

Very good restaurant to enjoy Westphalian food in a pleasant atmosphere with very friendly and dedicated service. In the winter time, kale is particularly recommended in every variation. According to the company, the meat is from organic, species-appropriate animal husbandry, the fried potatoes are perfectly browned, so: everything is perfect.

Hooray, there was still room for 5 people - without a reservation - on a Friday afternoon around 2 p.m. and the Christmas market outside. Delicious schnitzels and meat skewers. Friendly service. Very nice place!

Despite the house being absolutely full, after a few minutes of waiting we were offered a wonderful place to sit, pointing out that there would be a long wait for the food. The food was good, the service was downright humorous and absolutely friendly.

My meal was very tasty! I had the Schnitzel Deluxe with spaetzle and cream sauce with mushrooms. Everything fresh and juicy. Although in retrospect I would have preferred to eat it with fried potatoes. My husband had some and in my opinion it would have gone better with the schnitzel. The spaetzle was still super tasty. If Münster, then go to Kiepenkerl again. Everything clean and tidy. Service very nice.

We were there for lunch just before Christmas in 2024. I had kale with mettwurst, kassler and fried potatoes. The food was really good, I really enjoyed it. Here you can still get real fried potatoes made from boiled potatoes. I still had an old baked apple as a digistif. Yummy. The service was great. If we didn't live so far away, we would eat there more often.

More than enough portion of side dishes. Delicious food, wonderful, quiet atmosphere. There is enough space between the tables. The side dish portion is sufficient, but the meat is a bit small. The reservation was made 2 weeks in advance via the online website. Reservation is highly recommended especially during evening time or Christmas time. The price is a bit more expensive compared to other similar restaurants in the area. My recommendation: more poultry and fish on the menu would be good.

Real German cuisine, everything is very tasty. Price = quality!! I'll come here again with pleasure, I won't be able to get a hot meal and dessert in one go)) The portions are large.

After initial problems with our reservation, which postponed our stay by a good 2 hours, we were served very courteously. The food was very good, the lady responsible for us was extra class. After all, we were a group of 12 people, which didn't make it easy to operate. The dishes were actually in all places at the same time.

No idea about the food, but they charge 1 euro for a 3 year old kid to use the toilet while it’s not even busy at the weihnachtsmarkt on Monday afternoon.

Visit during Advent 2024. What a great selection of food! We had the pleasure of being guests at the Großer Kiepenkerl three times. Everything was perfect: the food first class, outstanding service. Hats off to what the employees are doing. We will be there again next time we are in Münster.

Visited this great restaurant in the heart of Münster for the second time and loved it again! The ambience is great and the service is extremely courteous and attentive. The selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes makes me particularly happy. The idea of ​​offering typical German “home cooking” in veggie variations is simply perfect. A lot more restaurants should do this. Even milk alternatives (oat milk) are available with a coffee at no extra charge. The food is of course extremely delicious. Never been dissatisfied there so far! A little expensive but definitely worth it.

After a few years I was a guest at the Großer Kiepenkerl again. The ambience was nice and Westphalian-modern, but unfortunately the food was a bit poor. I chose the kale with Mettendchen and Kassler for €22. There were also fried potatoes. In my opinion the portion was a bit too small for the price. One would have expected a larger portion of kale and/or fried potatoes here. The Mettendchen was a bit too firm for me, but the taste was very good, just like the piece of Kassler. The kale was quite flabby, the fried potatoes were well fried and crispy, but there was a noticeable lack of salt. Service was friendly, but made a mistake in the billing and accidentally charged me for two large beers instead of two small ones. Not dramatic, I only noticed later, but of course it shouldn't happen.

We were there on Saturday "just by luck" and had a very nice table upstairs. We had various dishes, including venison goulash and schnitzel, and we were all satisfied. The cheese spaetzle with truffles are very tasty, but could use some decoration...

We were there on a Sunday around 2 p.m. We actually got the last free table and there were only two of us. Nevertheless, the order was taken quickly and we actually had our food after about 25 minutes. We enjoyed the food very much, everything was fresh, came to the table hot and the portions were, as expected, good-sized. We enjoyed it. Because it was very, very crowded, it was a bit cramped and quite loud. Nevertheless we were satisfied.

It was a solid evening at the inn with dishes that actually lacked a lot of salt. Too bad!

Have been a guest several times and have been very satisfied each time. Nice ambience, courteous service and very good quality food. Dogs are also welcome there (there is always a blanket to lie on, something to drink and a small bag with the house's own treats...really great!). Absolutely recommended!

Very nice and well located restaurant with excellent food. There is a lot of emphasis on regional products, which is reflected in the slightly higher price, but this is absolutely justified given the quality of the products. The service staff was very friendly and helpful. We were there with our small child and a children's chair was immediately brought to us without asking and there was something to paint. It is advisable to reserve in advance. We'll come back any time.

Very good restaurant in Münster. Predominantly German cuisine, with a lot of emphasis on regionality and quality - you can taste it. Plenty of portions and good value for money. The staff is always friendly and it seems as if the team is happy and relaxed, which is unfortunately not the case everywhere.

Had fried potatoes with Jägerschnitzel. The potatoes were lukewarm. Schnitzel was good. A bit small and little sauce and few mushrooms. But I didn't complain. Delicious beer (dark)

Unfortunately, I can't understand the mostly superlative reviews; my perception was different. Therefore, with all eyes closed, only two stars, which I would like to justify: We were in Münster for the first time and followed a recommendation on a public holiday, thank God with a reservation, because the economy seems to be the tourist temple par excellence. The first impression at the reservation counter was not a positive one, because I was able to linger a little and watch the hustle and bustle. The young chef de rang did not behave like a host, but rather like a grounds manager or ticket seller, and the guests seemed like supplicants to an office. The dining room has a warm, rustic ambience and you'll whet your appetite for hearty cuisine. The house beers were tried. The dark was tasty due to the slight sweetness, the tart was also good, nothing earth-shattering, but ok. The service was very friendly and happy to answer any questions. As a starter I had a potato soup with roasted Mettwurst slices, a cup for a whopping €8.50. The soup was tasteless to my palate, only the sausage and croutons added some flavor, although I missed roasted sausage flavors. I also tried my companion's Töttchen, which tasted very good. However, the presentation of this dish could be refined as it does not seem very appetizing due to its texture. For the main course, I chose the Rhenish Sauerbraten from the “Our Classics” section – a dish that I like to cook and enjoy myself. The house advertises 96 hours of pickling and comfortable braising. Unfortunately, the meat didn't reflect that. It was very dry and al dente, looking like boiled beef that had been covered in dark sauce. I don't know if this sauce had ever seen meat before, but I'm not a chef. Definitely very disappointing. The hand-scraped (!) Spätzle were excellent in taste and consistency, the red cabbage was normal. The finale was a “ladies’ cream” with espresso for €9.50 (!). The announced amaretto note was so subtle that I couldn't tell whether it was the taste of the almonds or amaretto. It somehow tasted like cream pudding from a bucket with almond filling. I can't describe how miserable I felt this dessert was for that money. If you scroll through the photos, you can see that it looked better, that more effort had been put into it. Well, yes. Maybe I'm too spoiled by other restaurants in Germany, where food looks great and tastes good too. I still found the various recommendations from Gault Millau, Falstaff & Co. surprising. Absolutely incomprehensible for what I was allowed to try. But the marketing is top in Münster, not just in Kiepenkerl. I won't visit it again in this life.

After a short wait we (2 people) were assigned a table. It took a while for the food to arrive. But it was worth it. I've rarely eaten something so delicious. If I could, I would give it more stars. The staff is also super nice. Keep it up.

Simply always wonderful, very nice and lots of staff, who are always polite and quick to help you with good advice on food and drink. The food, if possible from the region, from potatoes to schnitzel, is always delicious and simply inexpensive. Today I had the currywurst, on point, with perfect fries and delicious sauce. The ambience is always pleasant. 5/5 stars!

During a short trip to Münster we spontaneously stopped at the Kiepenkerl. Even though we hadn't made a reservation, we still managed to get a seat for dinner. Before we could even order, our dog was served a small bowl of water and lovingly packaged treats. Dog-friendliness is very important here! There were many regional drinks on the menu and a lot of emphasis was placed on origin and regionality in the food, which was also reflected in the taste. The service was very courteous and friendly. We would be happy to come here again when we visit the city of Münster again.
