The second visit was convincing After a visit 2 months ago, we were disappointed with the Großer Kiepenkerl and its promising concept. The large catering company did not deliver a convincing performance that evening. We reserved a table again when we visited Münster again and didn't regret it. That evening we enjoyed very well prepared classics of the best quality with friendly service in the vaulted cellar: A spicy and creamy one Potato soup with Büsum crabs and fresh dill. The generous contribution was astonishing given the skyrocketing prices for North Sea crabs. The low temperature cooked Charolais roast beef was perfect: tender and juicy. There were also crispy fried potatoes with onions and an exceptional sweet and sour candy cucumber salad. I really can't remember eating such excellent fried potatoes in recent years - that's what fried potatoes must taste like to me. The home-made farmer's aspic of excellent quality also tasted really good with the sensational Kiepenkerl fried potatoes and remoulade sauce - traditional regional cuisine made from the best ingredients. We also enjoyed the local beer, which is brewed exclusively for the inn in light and dark by the Detmold brewery Strate. The operating family has implemented a sophisticated concept in the historic inn in the heart of Münster's old town: Regional and seasonal products of first-class quality are consistently processed here. When it comes to the meat used, the focus is on species-appropriate husbandry and animal welfare - these efforts are noticeably reflected in the taste and quality of the dishes. We were also surprised by the diversity of the culinary offerings, from seasonal asparagus dishes, Westphalian and German cuisine classics, an award-winning children's menu, to vegetarian and vegan offerings, to a service for dogs. The inn received numerous awards for this unique concept in (large) catering: From slow food to Gault Millaut and Falstaff for kitchen and service to the top employer in the catering industry. Conclusion: The traditional cult inn with its contemporary, mindful menu is a recommendation for every stay in Münster.

To be honest, I'm not particularly impressed with the food. I just have the feeling that something is still missing. They probably place a lot more emphasis on the quality of the meat or vegetables, but I think the taste could still be optimized.

At very short notice we got a table for 7 people on the upper floor. The staff was very attentive, the menu has a good selection of regional dishes, including vegetarian and vegan, The ingredients come from the local area. The price is also very reasonable. All in all, we had a lovely evening, with delicious food and a lovely atmosphere.

Lots of vegan options. A vegan dip comes with the bread, and the service is very courteous and pleasant. At the same time, there is a pleasant atmosphere in the restaurant. There is also a detailed non-alcoholic cocktail menu with many cocktail options, which is right on the table. We'd love to come back!

The atmosphere is very nice and traditional. The asparagus was completely overcooked and the veal schnitzel was 2 cm thick. A schnitzel must be thin. The potatoes weren't particularly tasty either. The prices were extremely high for the quality of the food. The service is mostly done by somewhat inexperienced students, which was fine.

Sitting outside when the weather is nice is a real pleasure. We also enjoyed the tavern salad and potato soup, as well as the local beer. However, a deduction due to the prices. €6.20 for a 0.5l regional beer is very sporty.

We were invited to a birthday party. After a long time we visited this restaurant again. We didn't remember the place well. But now, apparently since the change of ownership, a lot has happened. The first impression when entering the restaurant was pleasantly positive. You were welcomed in the entrance area. We were escorted to the table where we were already expected. Shortly afterwards the waitress came and asked what we would like to drink. The food we ordered came quickly to the table so we could start eating together. The waitresses (young ladies) were all very attentive and polite. The entire ambience had a feel-good character. The noise level was not annoying. People could have a good conversation and understand each other. The food came to the table hot. The plates were well filled and the eyes were delighted. There was nothing to complain about in terms of taste. The toilet facility was clean. All in all it was a successful evening. We're going there again!!!!

Nice terrace - very good service. You can tell the high number of guests by the quality of the food. This one is not very good. Prices are very steep and not appropriate. A functioning factory has become too touristy

One star for the ambience, one for the service and one for the food. We ordered the anti pasti plate for two (normal dinner plate €26). Quality is good, but the price is far too high for a bit of brawn, salad, herring and roast beef, cucumber salad and really boring bread. We left the restaurant hungry. The plate wasn't attractively presented either. There has to be more to come. 05 Altbierbowle with 4 strawberries and the small one with 2 strawberries aren't exactly a hit either. Since the wine was contaminated with pieces of cork, we had it replaced without any problems. This made the waitress visibly uncomfortable, so she apologized several times.

Visiting a restaurant here is fun! Great, uncomplicated service, dishes with sustainable ingredients and a menu that definitely doesn't make vegetarians and vegans feel like second-class guests - thank you very much for that and a clear recommendation! And there's even a menu for people with gluten intolerance!

Wonderfully delicious, fresh food. Great selection on card. Also lots of veggie offers. I really like the selection of non-alcoholic drinks (including non-alcoholic wine, non-alcoholic Aperol Spritz and much more). Very very child friendly! The service is attentive and responsive.

The first address for visiting Münster. Great ambience, friendly and courteous staff, local ingredients and classics on offer. I will never forget my first “broad beans”. 110% recommendation!

We met here with the family to celebrate my uncle's birthday. We were assigned the reserved table in the early evening at the agreed time. At first it was loud and a bit loud, but that subsided as the evening progressed. Overall the atmosphere was cozy and modern rustic. The service was very accommodating, friendly and attentive. The drinks and food (I had broad beans) were very tasty. All in all, we were very satisfied, even though the prices have increased here too.

The two of us stumbled in by chance at lunchtime. We were attracted by the positive reviews and awards. We both ordered a pork schnitzel with fried egg and fried potatoes. I don't know how you manage to cook or fry with such a tasteless taste. Well, you can forget to salt and pepper schnitzel, but how you can get the fried potatoes so neutral is a mystery to me. Even my wife, who tends to find things too spicy, resorted to salt and pepper. When asked how it tasted, I gave exactly that as feedback. You would pass it on and that would be the end of it. The combination of the bad food and the way I deal with it makes me not want to go back there. Especially since I really expect something different based on the price level and the Falstaff or Gault Millau rating. The bottom line for us was a disappointing and wasted lunch.

Service and food were typical system catering. Everything is quick and more mass than class. The dishes on the menu all sounded very tasty, and the large selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes should also be highlighted. Unfortunately, both the taste and quality of our food were mediocre at best. I had spaetzle as a side dish, and it was greasy and dry at the same time. No idea how that worked. But even refrigerated spaetzle in the supermarket tastes better. The "main ingredients" were otherwise okay, not really great, but I have nothing to complain about either. All in all, I didn't think the prices were justified in the end.

Always happy: when I'm in my hometown, I always come back here. Nowhere else does the incomparable spirit of Münster, Westphalian cuisine and hospitality and a diverse audience combine to create such a pleasant experience.

If I could give more stars I would. Great, contemporary menu, the likes of which you rarely see, our dishes (starter and main course) were delicious, modern drink selection, fabulous, attentive service. Fun Fact: When I made the reservation online, my response was "We have something to celebrate." clicked, I couldn't remove the checkmark. We were asked who they could congratulate and we had great place mats: "Oh happy day". A family reunion for three is also a reason to celebrate, the older one moved here to study, 400 km... Definitely again.

Far too loud when the restaurant is full. Conversations are not possible. A pity!

In a good bourgeois atmosphere you get just as good bourgeois cuisine, which in my opinion deserves a star. Everything is regional and sustainable, animal welfare is particularly taken into account when it comes to animal products. What's worth highlighting is the selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes and the "for tomorrow bag", in which you can take with you what you can't eat on site. The staff obviously enjoy working here as they are cheerful, polite and very polite. I can only recommend everyone to stop here, WE will definitely be back ♥️

Hello, we have come from 400 km to see the beautiful city of Münster and to have a good meal. In 2017 we booked the crime tour and ate at the Großer Kiepenkerl for the first time. We are always amazed by the good food and the atmosphere. Unfortunately, you can't get good home-style food in our region at all.

The restaurant was very busy. Nevertheless, we got a table for two people. The service is friendly and accommodating. The menu offers many meatless dishes. An inn where you can feel like a guest. I will definitely come back

There is really room for improvement when it comes to eating. I chose celery steak with fried potatoes (€19.90). Well, pretty boring. Vegetable cooking is better. There was no salad for that price. I ordered this specially. According to the menu, great emphasis is placed on seasonal and regional ingredients and local cuisine. In February I was surprised to see a salad plate with lettuce, peppers and tomatoes. Why not offer raw vegetable salads? Would have been more honest. Wine was tasty, service was friendly and good. Ambience very appealing.

We were finally lucky to get a seat without a reservation. Westphalian cuisine is really not sexy for me and so I didn't initially find the selection very promising. I was even more enthusiastic about the food. And the service was super nice, patient with our questions and special requests and flexible with last-minute changes to orders. We'll definitely be back!

My girlfriend and I ate here for my birthday and were warmly greeted as soon as we walked in and asked what we were celebrating (admittedly, we had stated when making our online reservation that there was something to celebrate). When it became clear that it was a birthday, I received congratulations accordingly and every employee who served us that evening congratulated us the first time we met. So the whole evening became a birthday evening again! We can only report positive things about the food. From the non-alcoholic aperitif to the starter to the main course, everything really impressed us. In general, the menu offers a top selection for all diets, from mixed to vegan and gluten-free. Special thanks also go to Marius, who served us most of the time and took the evening to another level with his friendly, open and good-humored manner. It wasn't our first time eating here, but after this time it was clear that a review had to be written! It won't be the last time!

A home-style restaurant in a venerable house in the middle of the old town of Münster. The service was friendly and attentive. The question about the chrito lemon was answered charmingly and ended up on our table as an encore. The food was very good, the portion was reasonable and I would eat here again. Price-performance is okay.

Delicious food in a pleasant atmosphere. Very friendly greeting upon entry and attentive and friendly service. For the companion with fur there is a gift in the form of a treat bag, I've never experienced that before, really great! The inn is also busy, so the acoustics can get louder depending on where you sit. We'd love to come back! Thumbs up 👍

Das Lokal war am Donnerstag Abend total voll. Trotzdem hatten wir Glück einen Tisch zu bekommen. Es ist sehr zu empfehlen im Vorfeld zu reservieren. Denn es lohnt sich. Das Essen war ganz ausgezeichnet. Es gibt eine lokale und auch vegane Karte, bei der die Speisen sorgfältig ausgewählt sind. Es war ein rundum gelungener Abend.

Nicht ganz so gemütlich wie der kleine Kiepenkerl nebenan. Jedoch grosse Auswahl auf der Karte (auch viele kleine Gerichte) eine tolle Kinderkarte (Überraschungstüte) und prima Service von einer sehr gut gelaunten Kellnerin. Trüffel Pommes waren sehr sehr gut und knusprig, Spätzle und Salat auch. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Für Münster eine echte Empfehlung. Guter Service, außergewöhnlich gute Gerichte. Sehr bodenständig.

Chouette endroit au calme à l’étage , au pied d’un marché de noël . Bonne cuisine, portion généreuses, prix correct .

Le ragoût de cerf accompagné de chou rouge et Spätzle était délicieux. La viande était savoureuse et les quantités généreuses. Une très bonne adresse à Münster ! Je recommande vivement.

Und wieder ein schönes Traditionslokal mit gutem Bier und sehr leckerem Essen. Das Töttchen.. Super!

War am 11. Dezember mittags im Großen Kiepenkerl. Dass das in der Adventszeit eher eine Massenabfertigung ist, kommt nicht überraschend. Habe dort die Ente gegessen - immerhin für 33,- € (Gans gibt es dort nicht mehr). Geschmacklich war das die reine Enttäuschung. Die Haut der Ente war zwar braun und halbwegs knusprig, das Fleisch ganz gut und zart. Aber geschmacklich war der Braten fad und mehr oder wenig ohne jeglichen Geschmack. Genauso die Soße. Heute Abend hatten wir Entenkeuken von Käfer aus der Kühltheke (nicht TK) von ALDI (!) und die waren nicht incl. Soße geschmacklich dreimal besser.

Das Essen in diesem Restaurant war wirklich ausgezeichnet. Die Aromen waren perfekt ausbalanciert und die Präsentation war wunderschön. Der Service war auch sehr aufmerksam und freundlich. Leider war der Tischabstand zu gering, was zu einem etwas unangenehmen Gefühl während des Essens führte. Es wäre schön, wenn das Restaurant in Zukunft darauf achten würde, dass die Gäste genügend Platz haben, um sich wohl zu fühlen. Trotzdem würde ich das Restaurant aufgrund des köstlichen Essens und des großartigen Service weiterempfehlen, in der Hoffnung, dass sie das Platzangebot verbessern.

Essen sehr gut und große Portionen. €6 für ein Bier ist aber schon interessant. Denke da ist ne ganze Menge Inflation vorweggenommen worden. 1 Punkt Abzug für Wucherweizen.

Trotz des großen Ansturms am Samstag vor dem 3. Advent waren die Mitarbeitenden sehr freundlich, aufmerksam und zuvorkommend. Das Essen war sehr lecker mit ordentlichen Portionen und nach rd. 30 Minuten für uns 4 frisch zubereitet auf dem Tisch! Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder 🫶
