Worst Greek restaurant far and wide November 2025 We were invited there yesterday for a birthday dinner and drove over 150 km for it. We have never eaten worse at a Greek restaurant!!! The place looks generally shabby. Many people have already written about the salad here – and it's just as bad as they say! Four people ordered a dish with Metaxa sauce, but they apparently received a tomato cream sauce. The salmon was not only expensive but also soaked in grease. In general, too few fries were served with the dishes. Mayo and ketchup come in individual packets... And now the crowning glory – I ordered a moussaka and not only found a 4-5 cm long, boiled, rock-hard, and pointed cinnamon stick (broken in the picture because we wanted to find out what it was), but also a strange, round piece of plastic (which couldn't be broken or cut)! After complaining to the manager, who examined the piece of plastic and tried to bend it, and then consulting the cook, the answer came back: it was cinnamon!!! I haven't laughed so hard in ages... In short... we ended up sharing a pizza to go because none of the portions were enough... one of us got diarrhea (unfortunately, I've read about this happening quite often here – I wonder why?), the birthday person certainly overpaid, and all the invited guests were dissatisfied – a real shame. As we left, we were told: "Anyone who complains won't be back anyway!" How can the owner of a "restaurant/tavern" treat their guests with such disrespect? Now I'm curious to hear their response... because apparently, they always have some excuse when there are complaints... And in advance, I wish you a good life too!!!

The conservatory was used as a smoking area – really unpleasant for families with children. The food was also disappointing. The portions of fries were very small, and the Metaxa sauce tasted more like a simple tomato cream sauce, with no trace of Metaxa. Overall, all the guests in our birthday party were dissatisfied. One dish even contained foreign objects – supposedly "cinnamon," according to the owner. The service was practically nonexistent: After the food was served, no one came to the table to ask about drinks or whether we were satisfied. Empty plates sat unused for a long time, and when we pointed out the problems, the owner reacted rudely and dismissively. The bill was also highly questionable – it was handwritten on the back of a piece of school paper, there was no official receipt, and no option to pay by card. We've been coming to the Greek restaurant at the wholesale market for over 20 years. The ambiance is as it is and always has been. It's a holiday feeling for us. Unfortunately, a lot of things have decreased in recent months. The salad always has to be seasoned, but removing the cucumber and tomato also takes away a lot of the flavor. The cucumbers in the tzatziki have also "disappeared." What a shame!! Today I had baked gyro, very tasty, and never so little in the casserole dish – I also let them know. Too bad, sometimes a price increase isn't a bad thing when the customers are satisfied and full. Best regards

You go into a restaurant with an open mind. Especially if it calls itself a tavern. The place is run-down and doesn't seem very clean at first glance. The ouzo was watery and not at all cold, the way it's meant to be drunk. Let's move on to the side salad: some coleslaw, a black olive, and some iceberg lettuce. Not even a slice of tomato and no dressing. The olive oil on the table was completely inferior, and the vinegar could be used to clean tables. So, it's not for the salad. The bread that comes with the salad was really thin slices and a bit toasted. You'd assume it was stale bread. Main course: fries with a little salt and bifteki filled with cheese...the picture says it all. Inedible. They didn't even apologize for the bad meal. Since I ate the fries because I was hungry, they charged me for them instead of showing goodwill and not having to pay for the meal. For me, not good service and not good quality.

The feeling is like sitting in a street restaurant on vacation; the vineyard is idyllic. The food was rather mediocre—nothing special—served jumbo fries instead of round slabs of fried potatoes. Traverne is a perfect description: a traditional local, long-established restaurant with friendly staff. The antipasti, in many varieties, was very tasty and a little highlight before the meal. You should definitely stop by.

We ate here today with the family (2 adults, 3 children, 1 baby). It's a taverna, just as you'd imagine it. Totally simple, no frills, hectic or perhaps chaotic, but very tasty dishes, friendly staff, plenty of space, child-friendly, and dogs are allowed too. We were absolutely satisfied with our orders, the wait time, and the food. With a group of 5 (baby not included), we had 2 starters, a main course each, and a drink. €22 per person. Everyone was full and satisfied. We'd love to come back.

We always enjoy the tavern in the summer. The food is excellent, especially the grilled octopus. You can put together your own salads using the cruet set. I love the delicious oil and the wine vinegar with its beautiful color. We lick our plates after dinner (with the bread, of course). The service always makes us laugh. Guests who enjoy Greek-style casualness will feel at home here. I also hope that the quirky ambiance remains unchanged. The small glasses with the pink aluminum jugs, the typical Greek chairs, and the temperament of the owner family transport you to a favorite vacation spot for a short time. Thank you for that! Don't change anything; everything is fine the way it is.

The starter was really great. Unfortunately, the waiter (an older man) wasn't exactly friendly. He practically slammed the plates down on the table. Unfortunately, there's no kindergarten either; we had to ask twice, but all he got was, "Yes, we do!" Chicken nuggets and basically everything on the kids' menu. My pork fillet was overcooked and almost difficult to cut. The grilled meat was also way too dry. All in all, the first visit wasn't worth it; we were very disappointed 😞

We ate there yesterday with eight people, and everyone was disappointed, from the service to the food. The appetizer salad was dry, the meat in Metaxa sauce was fatty, and the paptaos were saltless. You felt like you were being asked to get up quickly after eating. Without asking, the food was cleared away and you weren't even asked if you were finished. I recently visited this restaurant and was sadly disappointed. The service was anything but friendly; I felt like I was being a nuisance rather than a welcome. No greeting, barely a smile. The bill at the end was particularly strange. It listed items I hadn't even ordered. Only after I pointed it out was the whole thing reluctantly reviewed and finally corrected, albeit without an apology and in a rather annoyed tone. The whole thing left a very unpleasant aftertaste.

I love the "Greek restaurant at the wholesale market." Years ago, I used to go there often with colleagues and friends. Now, I go there with my little family. The service (a family business spanning generations) is still wonderfully relaxed, friendly, and welcoming in its interactions with customers. The food is fantastic and the prices very fair. 2 people with starter, main course, and drinks €56. It always feels like a tiny vacation for me. I look forward to every visit 😀

A quaint, family-run Greek restaurant, almost like being on vacation in Greece. The dishes are classically simple, good, and reasonably priced. The salad was simple and crisp, with vinegar, olive oil, and salt and pepper for you to season yourself. The service was extremely friendly and attentive, so we, as a group of eight, felt completely at home. We'll definitely be back!

Haven't been here for a very long time. And then I convinced my friend, who had never been here, to try this restaurant. I used to enjoy being a guest here, but on my last visit I noticed that the quality of the food had deteriorated. The side salad was disappointing. The salad consisted of a few strips of iceberg lettuce and some coleslaw without dressing. The main course was not of good quality, the meat was tough. In addition, the bread seemed old and was only toasted. ​ Another point of criticism is the ambience. The place is quite large and when it's at full capacity it creates a loud and hectic atmosphere that makes it difficult to have a quiet conversation. ​And everything seemed untidy, outdated and a bit dirty. Overall I am disappointed with my last visit and will not come here again.

Der Salat bestand aus ein paar Streifen Eisbergsalat und etwas Krautsalat ohne Dressing. Das Hauptgericht war von keiner guten Qualität, der Fleisch war zäh. Zudem wirkte das Brot alt und war lediglich getoastet. ​ Ein weiterer Kritikpunkt ist das Ambiente. Das Lokal ist recht groß und bei voller Auslastung entsteht eine laute und hektische Atmosphäre, die es schwierig macht, sich in Ruhe zu unterhalten. ​Und alles wirkte unaufgeräumt, veraltet und etwas verschmutzt. Insgesamt bin ich enttäuscht von meinem letzten Besuch und werde hier nicht noch einmal kommen.

I was recently in the restaurant Der Grieche at the wholesale market in Krefeld. I chose moussaka – and it was simply outstanding! The combination of juicy minced meat, tender aubergines and the creamy béchamel sauce was perfectly balanced. I also had tzatziki with bread, which was wonderfully fresh and flavorful - exactly as it should be. The service was extremely friendly and attentive, so I felt completely at home. The prices are absolutely fair for the quality of the food. If you are looking for authentic Greek cuisine in Krefeld, you should definitely visit this restaurant. I'll definitely be back! ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Despite rush hour, fast and good service, with good food and a cozy, rustic atmosphere. The only surprise for me was that card payment was not possible. No star deduction for a rustic restaurant like this, of course.

We were there during the week. It wasn't nearly as crowded as it was on the weekends. I thought the price-performance ratio was great. I got a decent portion of gyros, which was completely sufficient in quantity. I found the taste and quality to be really good for the price. The waiting times and the friendliness of the employees were also not objectionable. From my point of view, everything was perfect here. The atmosphere is like a wholesale market. You like it or you don't like it. But what always really annoys me is that you still can't pay with the card. This no longer has to be the case in 2024. I'm not here too often to know that.

We love going to Greek here. We haven't had to reserve a table yet, but we've always been able to get a seat for 3-4 people and were warmly welcomed. The atmosphere is relaxed, familiar and we like the ambience.

We had dinner there last night with 15 people. Unfortunately my food wasn't good at all. The chicken leg was undercooked and absolutely fatty. The service was friendly, but ordered dishes were simply forgotten. In addition, it is not obvious from the outside or at the entrance that only cash payment is possible. It's just at the bottom of the menu. Unfortunately my calculation was also wrong, but after recalculating it, it worked out. We probably won't come back again.

You know what you're getting. Delicious Greek food like in the village in Greece. Simply delicious home cooking without any frills. Munch. Best gratinated gyros far and wide. Top price-performance ratio. Unfortunately a bit loud which makes communication difficult. But we will always be happy to come back.

The atmosphere is really pleasant! I've known the store since I was a child and the nostalgia always draws me back. The food tastes good for the price, but overall it's pretty average. With a few beers you won't notice it anymore! I'll definitely be back.

We come from the Netherlands, we are with family from Moers who regularly visit the restaurant here. It is truly grand, the location is truly special, you can taste the nice, relaxed atmosphere, and the food is truly fantastic. I hope to come there again. Highly recommended

We used to eat there often, but now we haven't eaten there for at least 2-3 years. Went there again today and visually nothing has changed, it's the same as always (rustic backyard tavern). But unfortunately the quality of the food has become significantly worse and the prices have gone up. The portions are smaller and costs around 35% more than before. I think it's okay to adjust the portion size because there was always a lot left over. But then at the same time raising the prices significantly and thus being on the level of a chic restaurant... I don't understand it's basically a chip shop with a large terrace. Very unfortunate!!! On the positive side, the staff is still great!

A great place for a delicious meal. Friendly service and good value for money. The “terrace” is designed so that you can sit in the open air or, if the weather is not so good, the top is simply closed.

In the beginning we went to this restaurant very often. Ambience is like a vacation in Greece. Regarding the starters, I unfortunately have to say that the tarama tastes like nothing (reminds me of porridge). The Florini (reminded me of peppers from a jar from Lidl) are served unimaginatively on dry lettuce leaves. Can't score points with starters. Very unfortunate.

We had a very nice evening here on Friday with our women's club. The Greek restaurant on the Krefeld wholesale market gave us a friendly welcome. The food was delicious 😋 the service was very friendly and always asked questions. The highlight of the evening was when the innkeeper danced to Greek music 🎶 and some of the staff lined up. Together with the ambience of the restaurant, you felt like you had been transported to Greece. It was a beautiful, delicious and successful evening. We'd love to come back.

It's really nice to sit in summer on a semi-open terrace with Mediterranean greenery. This almost gives you a holiday feeling. Unfortunately there is only a small selection of vegetarian dishes and on our last visit we were served moldy bread in advance. However, the prices are fair.

Unfortunately this restaurant no longer has anything to do with Greek food. The mixing plate is mixed with a powder cream sauce from Maggi. The grill plate was also tough and dry. Meat is thawed from frozen and is tough. The salad that comes with it is iceberg lettuce without anything with sunflower oil and vinegar. The prices are far too high for this quality. Fries are thrown on the meat and served like at the snack bar next door! Consecutively with an invoice written by hand without the name and address of the restaurant. (This is just about making a quick mark) No Greek who knows anything about food would eat here. This snack bar wouldn't exist in Greece.

We always like to go to the Greek restaurant, mostly when we come back from Holland because we don't live that close to Krefeld anymore.
