Goldener Hirsch in Mainz

Es gab so gut wie keine Auswahl am essen. Vieles gab es nicht . Personal sehr gestresst und teuer teuer teuer!

Leider waren einige Gerichte der Karte nicht verfügbar, die Auswahl war daher sehr eingeschränkt. Auch waren die als Beilage gereichten Bratkartoffeln recht dunkel und wohl aufgewärmt. Die Lende zum Spargel war auch zu trocken und nicht saftig. Bisher haben wir uns bei ihnen über sehr gute Qualität gefreut, gestern war das Essen leider nur Durchschnitt und somit zu teuer.

Ich kann das Restaurant wirklich empfehlen. Das Essen war sehr lecker. Endlich mal nicht nur Schnitzel hoch und runter. Man soll aber beachten, dass die Tische für einen bestimmten Zeitraum vergeben werden. Mit 4 Personen hat man 2,5 std Zeit. Uns hat der Zeitraum aber gereicht. Somit alles bestens.

Der Service war sehr freundlich und bemüht, das Essen war sehr lecker, das Restaurant war liebevoll für Silvester dekoriert. Wir sind um 19:30 eingetroffen und wurden herzlich mit Champagner und einem Gruß aus der Küche empfangen. Leider haben wir sehr lang auf das Essen warten müssen, zwischen dem 1. und 2. Gang lagen ca 1 Stunde und 15 min., ehe der Hauptgang (4. Gang) gegen ca. 22:15 kam, waren wir schon gefühlt ausgehungert. Für uns hat sich das einfach zu lange angefühlt. An den Nebentischen konnte ich beobachten, dass die Personen teilweise auch etwas ungeduldig wurden. Ich nehme an, dass das Personal für den Abend leider unterbesetzt war. Trotz des langen Wartens hatten wir einen sehr schönen Abend und haben das Essen genossen.

Wieder einmal ein sehr schönes Abendessen mit einer wunderbar schmeckenden Gans mit super persönlichen Service. Wir kommen immer wieder gerne zum goldenen Hirsch.

Sehr eng gestellte Tische, überforderter Service, mangelhafte Koordination (z.B. kam der Wein zur Vorspeise erst nach 15 Minuten, als das Essen nur noch lauwarm war). Die Ente war trocken und faserig, aber dir Küche war fest davon überzeugt, alles richtig gemacht zu haben. Das Hrschgulasch war zerkocht und nur lauwarm, aber - im Gegensatz zur Ente - noch essbar. Nicht zu empfehlen!

Absolutely great German food, delicious. The atmosphere was cosy and cheerful. I loved the fact there was no music, only the natural buzz of conversations and cutlery. We had to book a table for dinner, otherwise it would have been difficult. Great place, great food! Thank you!

I had a delicious meal this evening. The osso buco was incredibly tender and fell right off the bone, the marrow bone was very generous, and the Brussels sprouts were absolutely fantastic. The mashed potatoes with celery could have used a touch more salt for my taste, but you can always add more yourself. One main course with a glass of house red wine for €38 is highly recommended. However, it's advisable to reserve a table in advance after 6 pm (even on weekdays) as the restaurant is quite popular. The noise level is acceptable, even when it's crowded. I walked about 10 minutes from the H2 Hotel, but finding parking there can be a bit of a challenge. Nevertheless, I highly recommend taking on this challenge, as it's well worth it. Many thanks again to the kitchen and the friendly and attentive staff.

A delicious seasonal menu with a choice of appetizers, main courses, and desserts. An aperitif of your choice was included for under €60. I had foie gras as a starter, venison goulash with red cabbage and potato dumplings as a main course, and then a chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. I've rarely eaten so well!

Wir haben das weihnachtliche Dreigang Menü gegessen. Es war super super lecker und von der Menge eher zu viel als zu wenig. Ganz klasse! Preisleistung super. Haben für 2 Personen insgesamt 150€ bezahlt (3-Gänge-Menü,pro Person 1 Cocktail als Aperitif, 3 Weine pro Person, 1 Flasche Wasser, für jeden 1 Schnaps) 150€ bezahlt. Das Essen super lecker, der Service sehr sehr nett und aufmerksam, super Weinempfehlungen und ein tolles Ambiente! 100 von 100 Punkte! Vielen lieben Dank!!

The two of us ordered the surprise menu, which unfortunately consisted of a dry, overcooked ossobuco on cold mashed potatoes and celery for the main course. The accompanying Brussels sprouts were more than al dente. The mushroom and pumpkin soups to start were delicious. The dessert, Kaiserschmarrn, was also disappointing – dry and relatively tasteless instead of buttery and crispy. Very annoying for almost €75 per person. A real shame.

Our visit to the Hirsch yesterday was very enjoyable overall, but there are a few points we'd like to mention. The three different soups as starters were an absolute delight! My wife's field salad with potato dressing was also truly delicious. For our main courses, we both ordered the goose platter with red cabbage, chestnuts, and potato dumplings. The website stated that you could choose between this platter, a whole goose for four people, and half a goose for two. However, we were told on-site that the half goose had to be pre-ordered, which was a real shame, as we would have loved to try it. Regarding the goose platter: We noticed that the breast pieces on both plates were significantly different in size. We were also looking forward to crispy skin, but found that the meat tasted rather pre-cooked and reheated – slow cooking would definitely be recommended to make the meat more tender. The red cabbage was a culinary delight, however, it contained so many juniper berries that we had to pick them out individually, which was a real shame. The gravy was excellent, while the potato dumplings were extremely small. The first few dumplings we received were raw. When we ordered a free second helping, we got two small, undercooked dumplings, and our request for more dumplings went unanswered – we would have gladly paid for more. Chestnuts weren't included until we asked for them. Overall, the meal was very tasty, and we were also delighted with the dessert and the perfectly hot espresso and cappuccino. However, it's regrettable that the juniper berries in the red cabbage, the small dumplings, and the less-than-tender meat somewhat marred our overall impression. One final point: I think that as a restaurateur, one should refrain from expressing political opinions, for example, through stickers on the premises!

Unser Besuch gestern im Hirsch war insgesamt sehr lecker, aber es gibt einige Punkte, die wir anmerken möchten. Die dreierlei Suppen als Starter waren ein absoluter Gaumenschmaus! Auch der Feldsalat meiner Frau mit dem Kartoffeldressing war wirklich köstlich. Als Hauptgericht bestellten wir beide den Gänse Schlemmer Teller mit Rotkraut, Maronen und Kartoffelknödeln. Auf der Website war angegeben, dass man zwischen diesem Teller, einer ganzen Gans für vier Personen und einer halben Gans für zwei wählen kann. Vor Ort wurde uns jedoch mitgeteilt, dass man die halbe Gans vorbestellen müsse, was sehr schade war, da wir diese gerne probiert hätten. Zum Gänse Teller: Es fiel auf, dass die Bruststücke auf beiden Tellern stark unterschiedlich in der Größe waren. Wir hatten uns auch auf die „knusprige“ Haut gefreut, mussten aber feststellen, dass das Fleisch eher vorgegart und aufgewärmt geschmeckt hat – hier wäre ein Slow Cooking definitiv zu empfehlen, um das Fleisch zarter zu machen. Das Rotkraut war geschmacklich ein Genuss, jedoch waren die Wacholderbeeren in so großer Anzahl darin enthalten, dass wir sie einzeln heraussuchen mussten, was sehr schade war. Die Soße war hervorragend, während die Kartoffelknödel extrem klein ausfielen. Bei den ersten Knödeln haben wir rohe Knödel serviert bekommen. Auf den nachbestellten, kostenlosen Nachschlag kamen dann zwei kleine halbseiden Knödel, und unsere Anfrage nach weiteren Knödeln blieb unbeantwortet – hier hätten wir auch gerne für mehr bezahlt. Maronen waren nicht dabei erst auf nachfrage. Insgesamt war das Essen sehr lecker, auch das anschließende Dessert sowie der perfekt heiße Espresso und Cappuccino haben uns begeistert. Es bleibt jedoch bedauerlich, dass die Wacholderbeeren im Rotkraut, die kleinen Knödel und das weniger zarte Fleisch unseren Eindruck etwas trübten. Ein letzter Punkt: Ich denke, dass man als Gastronom politische Meinungen, etwa durch Aufkleber an der Gaststätte, besser außen vor lassen sollte!

I chose the restaurant because I wanted to experience the traditional local food. All I can say is that we liked everything: the service, the food, the drink, and the ambiance.

Delicious (mostly German) food at a slightly upscale level. The quality of the dishes and ingredients is good, and the plates are beautifully presented. The service was very friendly and attentive, although one or two drinks were forgotten. The food was very tasty, but unfortunately not really hot. All in all, a restaurant for a special evening.

Gehobene Gastronomie zu angemessenen Preisen. Jedes Gericht ist „gediegen“ aber nicht altbacken. Preis-Leistung passt zu 100 Prozent.

Hier fühlen wir uns wohl. Das junge Serviceteam gibt immer alles und macht entspannten Eindruck. Wir konnten ungestört bei eivorragendem Wein und Essen unsere Gespräche führen. Klasse!

The food was amazing! Super tasty, cooked to perfection, and very well-seasoned. However, the rest of the food was disappointing. The service was just the bare minimum; you could hear all the conversations going on outside, and the drinks were very thin, especially for the price.

Sehr langsam, Service bemüht und freundlich, aber teils ahnungslos und wie gesagt unglaublich langsam. Da steckt doch gerade im flotten bei den Getränken das Geld drin. Wir hätten wesentlich mehr Runden bestellt. Angepriesene Special-Drinks nicht lecker einfach nicht gut gemacht, wie pures Tonic, Speisen teilweise ganz lecker, aber insgesamt einfach zu durchschnittlich bis langweilig. Schade, die Karte las sich toll.

The food was absolutely delicious. We had the Cordon Bleu, and it was sensationally good and beautifully presented. The service staff were absolutely fantastic: attentive, witty, charming, and never at a loss for excuses 😉 We'd be happy to go back anytime!

Great food and very good service at a family lunch with 25 people

So far, I've always been very satisfied and felt comfortable, but unfortunately, I had a very unpleasant experience last Sunday. Despite having a reservation on the terrace, we ended up at a table located on the sidewalk next to the terrace. Unfortunately, that's a complete no-go and incomprehensible to me :-(

Absolutely fantastic German cuisine – the food was incredibly delicious and full of flavor. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with attentive and friendly staff. A true gem that I highly recommend!

To date, I haven't received a response to my inquiry regarding allergens. There have only been discussions about whether or not to make a reservation.

Today (August 17th) we were at the "Goldener Hirsch" for the Sunday roast again. As always, it was a delight. Perfectly cooked meat, delicious side dishes to match. The kitchen is excellent. Highly recommended.

Ein toller Tipp einer Freundin! - Essen, Wein, Kaffee und Service waren hervorragend! Der Außenbereich ist zwar direkt an Fußweg / Straße, aber es ist eine sehr ruhige Gegend und Pflanzen bieten zusätzlichen Schutz. Das Preisniveau ist (für mich) nicht unbedingt "alltagstauglich", aber es ist auf jeden Fall den Preis wert. Also: Rundum empfehlenswert für einen besonderen Anlass. Übrigens hat auch die Buchung über OpenTable inkl. Erinnerung prima geklappt :-)

Wir haben sehr gut gegessen im Goldenen Hirsch. Der Service war sehr freundlich und es war für uns ein sehr schöner Abend. Eine kleine Einschränkung: das Brot im Brotsslat war nicht kross, da das (sehr leckere) Dressing recht üppig über den Salat verteilt war. Alles andere war perfekt!

We had a very good meal, but sorry, the service needs to be more attentive. After the food was served, we didn't see anyone again. We weren't asked if we were satisfied (by the way, the pepper sauce was inedible because of all the pepper), and we weren't offered any more drinks. With the 35°C heat on the terrace, we would have happily spent a few euros more. Then the food was finished, and still no one was there. I had to go to the counter to have a chance of getting my bill. There were five nice ladies at the counter, and the restaurant wasn't full. What a shame.

Please improve menu clarity on what is incremental and what is included. Do not say a dish includes side and see below and all of the side cost additional. If all sides include additional cost then just put the main dish as without side

Good food, slow service and expensive

I went to the "Goldener Hirsch" four evenings in a row because the first one had so impressed me. On the first evening, I ate "Gefillde" (a kind of stuffed pork loin). My mother often made it. Here at the "Goldener Hirsch," the tenderly sliced, rendered bacon strips were served in a cream sauce. This gave the whole thing a special flavor. The "Gefillde" was filled with liverwurst; it was a poem. Anyone who has seen the animated film "Ratatouille" knows what I'm talking about. At the "Goldener Hirsch," I also ate the crispy fried black pudding, the beef roulade, and, for the first time in my life, a Palatinate sausage. The chef explained the preparation to me beforehand. All I can say is: If you're going to have sausage, go to the "Goldener Hirsch." I also enjoyed the desserts: crème brûlée, chocolate soufflé, and Gourmand II. The wine pairing rounded off the whole experience perfectly. I also recommend the 20-year-old old pomace. Also worth mentioning is the friendly and customer-oriented service of the young team, led by the energetic restaurant owner. At the "Goldener Hirsch," you can enjoy the food and wine. You can't just grab a quick bite here. Mainz and the "Goldener Hirsch" are my favorite! This restaurant deserves a "Guide Routard" award.

Excellent German cuisine. We had the schnitzel and were very satisfied. A large selection of drinks. We received a very friendly welcome and service. We are completely satisfied and can recommend the restaurant. Since the restaurant is quite small, reservations are recommended.

We had a reservation outside for 5:30 p.m. on a Saturday. We wanted a different table, but it was explicitly reserved for another group. No one was there until two hours later. Service was slow and unprofessional. Prices were high, the food was rather mediocre, and unfortunately, everything was served lukewarm to cold. We waited an hour for the main course.

I was at the Goldener Hirsch for the first time today. We had reserved a table. The menu initially reads well. The asparagus cream soup as a starter did not correspond to what was on the menu. The strips of white and green asparagus described were thick pieces of asparagus with too firm a bite. Also, the soup was lukewarm. The main course (Gefillde with vegetarian filling) was beautifully prepared, but it was only lukewarm and the filling of the dumplings was even ice cold, which spoiled the enjoyment. This was complained about and I was served a fresh plate with the same main course. Unfortunately, this meal was only lukewarm or ice cold, so I ended up skipping the meal. Since the menu has very high prices, the food should live up to it.

Went there yesterday with a group and felt very comfortable despite the long wait. The service was very understanding and we were offered a night on the house because of the very long waiting time 😍 Thank you for your courtesy 👌🤩 Food was excellent 🙏☑️

We were there on Saturday April 19th, 2025 at 5 p.m.... The ambience is great and the food itself is ok... however, we had two completely normal schnitzels and completely normal boiled asparagus with 4 small potatoes... 2 beers, 1 shandy... 1 children's schnitzel with fries (fries that weren't even salted) that was bigger than our schnitzel... €79.50... for the completely normal meal quite expensive... that was our last meal there... service was friendly... but the price for this meal was really steep!!!!!!!!!!
