Super nice and patient service. Had all the fun. It also made up for my food. I had fish on tagliatelle and it wasn't that great. But the pasta with sauce was tasty. There is good wine, unfortunately also very expensive.

This is the second time I have booked the Golden Hirsch for a team meeting with international colleagues. There are several reasons for this: 1. English menus 2. Classics like steak are on it and they always work 3. There are local specialties, which are particularly appreciated by our German colleagues 4. Price-performance ratio is simply right. Quality of the food is really good. 5. Reservations can be made in a timely manner via email. 6. We are very satisfied with the service and speed. The meals were served almost at the same time, which is not always a given with a large group. I also like that it is a rather small shop, so you can have a good chat and there is no “canteen atmosphere” like in large pubs And the vegetarian areas are simply a poem. Best dumpling ever. Fluffy, soft and they absorb the delicious Riesling sauce really well. We look forward to next time :-)

The food was really tasty, flavorful and overall varied selection. The noise is a bit loud when the store is full. Overall a nice service. I would come again.

Actually mostly very satisfied. Unfortunately disappointing this time. The cordon bleu was dry and practically without cheese, the carrots that came with it were cold and the risotto was more like a rice soup. In addition, the empty drinks were unfortunately not noticed, and the service was more on call. As I said, we come often, but yesterday, unfortunately, was really a “Monday experience”.

Finally potatoes that actually tasted like potatoes. The mashed potatoes and the fried potatoes were excellent. The meat is tender and juicy. Salad dressing, honey mustard, was very well balanced. A great meal, with very good regional products. We would be happy to visit you again. Thank you.

Unglaublich leckeres Essen in sehr netter Atmosphäre mit super netter Bedienung. Das kann man eigentlich nicht besser machen. Wir sind begeistert und werden sehr gerne wiederkommen. Und wir werden den Goldenen Hirsch allen weiter empfehlen, die ein gutes Retsaurant suchen.

Wir waren heute das erste mal im Goldener Hirsch. Es hat alles gepasst vom tollen Service und dem leckeren Essen. Mit Sicherheit werden wir in regelmäßigen Abständen wieder reservieren und uns verwöhnen lassen. Auch einen Anruf für den vergessenen Schal ist nicht selbstverständlich.

Good regional dishes are served here in a cozy atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and happy to advise guests. The food is lovingly prepared, but overall a bit expensive. Unfortunately, the goose leg wasn't entirely convincing as the meat was a bit tough and couldn't be easily separated from the bone. The side dishes and sauces were well seasoned. Overall, we still spent a nice evening there.

I go there to eat once a year. The staff is very friendly and nice, unfortunately they change too often. In terms of cuisine and price, it can compete with Wiesbaden. The atmosphere is indescribable. Where else can you find good German cuisine in Mainz? 🤔

We were here in December and ate a whole goose with dumplings and red cabbage, which was very tasty. We'd love to come back.

Hello, Yesterday I ate goose leg with red cabbage and dumplings. According to the school grading system, I would give a maximum of 4. The red cabbage tasteless and apparently not seasoned. The dumplings were rubbery and also unconvincing in taste. Only the goose leg met expectations. Therefore, I cannot give a positive recommendation for the golden deer.

Wir waren zum Essen, Gans für 2 Personen (79,-) Gans war gut , die Beilagen waren lauwarm, was bei knapp 40,- pro Nase eigentlich nicht vorkommen sollte. Service war nett, halt junge Studies ... Alles in Allem war es okay, nochmal würde ich es nicht machen.

Ate goose leg. This was of good quality. However, some of the side dishes were not edible. The red cabbage was totally bitter, not seasoned. The sauce has no taste. The waitress said that this can happen if the red cabbage is cooked for too long, so she passes it on to the kitchen. It's a shame, overall not worth the money.

The positive first. The service is good and we were even allowed to swap the reserved table. Our wishes were taken into account and the service was always attentive and courteous/accommodating. The negative: The food, below average. Deer ragout is medium, red cabbage and dumplings are probably ready-made gastro products. The one for €31 is sporty. No finesse. Dumplings without breadcrumbs, red cabbage without, for example, apple or bay leaf notes. Dark sauce for the ragout, no special taste. Meat also has no wow factor, even mixed. Chestnut soup is also not a highlight. Ambiance okay, a bit drafty. Tablecloth/decoration rather simple. The tablecloth is more reminiscent of a TV test pattern than of a cozy evening for two, but you can be forgiven. A bottle of water €8. You can do anything, but it has to be something special. However, not an evening to repeat for us. Too bad.

Das Essen war perfekt! Die Bedienung sehr angenehm. Etwas hochpreisig, aber der Qualität angemessen.

Es war alles absolut in Ordnung. Da die bestellte Gans aber bei der Ankunft schon für die Restbackzeit in die Röhre kommt, sollte man den Gast darauf hinweisen, da sonst die Bestellung einer Vorspeise zu knapp bemessen ist.

Five stars aren't actually enough - it should be at least six. Absolute gem in the “Kreuzberg” of Mainz, conveniently located to the main train station. Without much frills, Palatinate cuisine (yes, in Rheinhessen) is offered here at reasonable prices, including home cooking such as roulade and of course Saumagen. The wine list contains many treasures from the Palatinate and Rheinhessen, some of them a little off the beaten path. Ultra-friendly service, small special requests are fulfilled quickly and calmly. The manageable number of tables fills up quickly, so be sure to reserve! When we made our reservations, we were told the time of the next table occupancy so that we could prepare for it and avoid unnecessary hecticness. Conclusion: unreservedly recommended. A restaurant that you always look for and rarely find.

Unfortunately our reserved table was still occupied by the previous guests, so like many others we had to wait outside the door in the rain. When we were finally allowed to sit down at the table late, it took over half an hour before we even got a card in our hands. We had to wait a whole 2 hours (!!) for our food. The food was great. When we wanted to pay, the waiter told us after half an hour, “Oh, I completely forgot about you!” The whole evening was a complete disaster considering the service. Not once did anyone apologize for our extremely long wait or for being forgotten. Even though the food was good, the prices are absolutely not justified for such substandard service, not to mention the drinks prices (a bottle of water for 8 euros?!). The golden deer had been on my wish list for a long time and was unfortunately a bitter disappointment, a shame!

This typically German restaurant is located a bit away from the touristic city centre, although not too far from Mainz railway station. The dining room is lively and nicely decorated. Advance booking almost essential as the restaurant was full even mid-week. Thumbs-up to the waitresses for the smiling and attentive service during the entire dinner. As starter the riesling creamy soup was revigorating and flavourful. As main course the deer stew proved very tasty with a generous portion. As dessert I indulged in a delicious chocolate soufflé with vanilla ice cream. Prices remain pleasantly moderate. Given the very food and service, I will gladly come back.

Excellent food and service in a comfortable, unpretentious setting. My Schweinebraten was so tender it almost needed a spoon. Even the accompanying carrots were cooked perfectly. My husband’s Rinderroulade was delicious also. We speak only a little German but the staff kindly used English with us. Wonderful meal to end our month of travel in Germany!

Kleines Restaurant, etwas überteuert für das was man geboten bekommen hat. Ziegenkäsesalat war viel zu viel Essig! Emmas rinderroulade war leider sehr trocken ! Dessert Schokoladen Soufflé war gut Service war ok aber wir sind besseres gewohnt, kaum zuvorkommend, es wurden keine Empfehlungen ausgesprochen… kein Wein empfohlen und auch kein Dessert. Leichte Überforderung. Brot auf dem Tisch muss extra bestellt werden für diese Preisklasse könnte man es auch auf die Tische stellen. Keine Romantische Hintergrund Musik. Gesamtbewertung, der Aufenthalt ok aber kein zweiten Besuch wert.

Die Atmosphäre war wirklich sehr schön. Das Essen super lecker. Leider hatten wir zwei mal Rumpsteak durch bestellt und beide nicht durch bekommen. Ansonsten war alles top. Die Bedienung war wirklich freundlich und zuvorkommend. Wir werden wieder kommen.

Waiting time is very long at 1.5 hours. Please bring your time. I went there twice because I moved nearby but unfortunately it just takes far too long, the starter and main course take forever.

We can only warmly recommend this restaurant! Starter, main course and dessert, all of the best quality and incredibly tasty. We were impressed by the generous portions and the wine selection. A big compliment also to the service: friendly, attentive, trying to give us a nice evening. We felt welcome and are already looking forward to our next visit!

I always enjoyed coming here. However, I think the prices are now really excessive. 8 euros for a bottle of water, 3 euros extra for some bread. The service is great, but please consider your drink prices.

Very nice German restaurant with Palatinate specialties. Great Saumagen and the service was very attentive, including a spirit on the house at the end.

Some very good and high quality food. The service is friendly and attentive. Reservation is usually recommended. The beef roulade and the ragout were unfortunately a bit bland. That was a shame. At this price you can expect more. But: Food recommendation: Homemade original Hunsrücker “Gefillde” (10/10) The large appetizer plate is also highly recommended. I particularly liked the hand cheese tartare. Homemade drinks very tasty. Drink recommendation: Berry Spritz Price/performance probably justified

Sehr aufmerksamer und freundlicher Service, leckeres Essen und schöne Plätze auf der Terrasse vor dem Restaurant. Leider war zwar die Kühlung defekt, weshalb es kein Sorbet gab, aber die angebotene Panna Cotta war eine tolle Alternative! Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Es war sehr lecker und frisch. Es hat sogar meiner Oma sehr gut geschmeckt, und die ist eigentlich sehr picky. Außerdem gibt es halbe Portionen für Senioren, das finde ich prima!

After a really promising starter and the professional atmosphere, the main course unfortunately disappointed us. The vegetable grill plate was far too oily and the tagliatelle in gorgonzola walnut cream was unfortunately very oily and very sober. Salt and pepper were on the table, but not much of the main components could be tasted. The visit was ok, unfortunately given the prices it's not enough to see us again.

Das Restaurant war klein und fein. Die Speisekarte war nicht überladen, sondern die angebotenen Gerichte wurden alle frisch und lecker gekocht. Was auch uns gut gefiel war die saisonalen Gerichte. Fazit: Das Preisleistungsverhältnis für Essen und Service war völlig in Ordnung. Das Lokal können wir ohne Probleme weiter empfehlen.

Nettes Lokal mit regionalen Gerichten. Es wurde extra telefonisch nach Tisch drinnen oider draußen gefragt.

Vanuit Nederland hebben we vooraf een reservering gemaakt om voor een tweede keer eten. We aten op het terras wat druk bezet was. Wij hebben geen last gehad van andere gasten. De sfeer is positief en rustig. De bediening is ondanks de drukte zeer attent en vraagt regelmatig hoe het eten is. Het eten is zeer goed evenals de wijnen. 8 euro voor een fles water is aan de dure kant. Al met al heerlijk gegeten en ondanks dat het aan de prijs is komen wij hier graag nog een keer terug.

Die Gefilde sind zum reinlesche!!! :) Plus super Weinauswahl!!!

The quality of the food is mediocre for Mediterranean tastes. I ordered a typical dish from the region and it was a kind of large slice of grilled pork, like a large slice of sausage, the taste of which reminded me of the Frankfurt sausage from any supermarket. wir waren zum ersten Mal hier, zu dritt, 2 Erwachsene und ein Kind. Meine Frau ist Vegetarier und unsere kleine Neunjährige ist sehr wählerisch. Wir alle haben was gefunden und von der Qualität absolut begeistert. Auch der Service hat gestimmt, zuvorkommend aber nicht aufdringlich! Leider haben die Preise in den Gastronomiebetrieben ganz schön zugelegt, so dass wir uns das nicht so oft leisten können, wie wir gerne möchten.

Auch wenn das Restaurant sehr gut besucht ist, ist das Servicepersonal aufmerksam und freundlich. Die Küche ist dann immer noch in der Lage, auch auf Sonderwünsche zu reagieren. Dem Servicepersonal und der Küchenmanschaft meine Hochachtung.

Great restaurant in Mainz. We were all thrilled. The Hunsrück specialties were particularly delicious.

First of all I want to complement the service. It was great. So nothing bad here. Although we found it odd, that during the reservation process one was asked about the reason for the visit, but in the end nothing was done with this information, even though we stated that it was for a birthday. In other restaurants of this type I am used to be greeted with some kind of nice gesture like a free desert for everyone at the table. But this is of course something that I do not expect, unless I get asked about it, like here... The wine was great! Food wise I must say that we expected something different for this price class. From 5 different dishes, 2 tasted very good, 2 okay and 1 boring. The steak was the most expensive dish and the worst of all. One of the steaks had the wrong level of doneness, which can happen and is fine. But 38€ for an okayish steak with a sauce that had like 4 small pieces of mushrooms, fries that were not even really crispy and a super small salad does not reflect the price that was paid.

The two of us were here for dinner on the Pentecost weekend. Thanks to a reservation we got a nice table by the window. When we entered, we were initially greeted by a louder background noise in the fully occupied restaurant, but this faded into the background again after a short time. For dinner we both decided on the Cordon Bleu with country ham and mountain cheese, with a side dish of parsley mash and glazed mörchen. The meat was of very good quality, tender and not dry; the mountain cheese filling had a pleasantly stronger note. As hoped, the parsley mash was still chunky and had a very good taste, and we also really liked the mörchen. For dessert, we ordered a selection of three desserts (sorbet, crème brûlée, chocolate soufflé) with espresso. The two of us came to around 80 euros including drinks and tips, which we found to be a reasonable price-performance ratio given the high quality and generous portions as well as the friendly service.

Ordered artisan sausage on a bed of  mashed potatos and signaled gluten intollerance. Served without potatos and with bread! They said that they would offerer the dessert and offered the main (wrong) dish.

Had dinner there today. Simply delicious. Great taste. Great salad dressing. The service was also super friendly and always had a smile on her face. Can recommend it with a clear conscience.

The shop is great and fast even when it's full, but unfortunately there are a few mistakes in the orders (smaller things like 0.2 glass instead of 0.4 / carrots even though you didn't want any). The main course is immense and tastes good, but dessert takes a little longer... 4/5
