Hyatt Regency Mainz in Mainz

Great location, standard room, but having to pay extra for an omelet at breakfast is a bit cheeky.

A great hotel in a great location, with quite good rooms and great staff… and one very big drawback. I'm giving it 4 stars because it's easily fixable, but I'd really prefer to give it fewer. Upon entering the lobby, there's a strong smell of smoke. We initially thought a smoker had just walked by. We then met friends for an aperitif in the bistro, which is also located in the lobby. The faint, yet still disturbingly pervasive, smell of smoke lingered… until we saw it when we left the hotel in the evening. There's a smoking lounge immediately to the right of the reception desk. In this case, the door was open. It makes absolutely no difference whether the door is open or closed. A smoking lounge has no place in an international, upscale mid-range hotel. If anything, it absolutely must be ensured that smoke does not enter the public areas. This needs to be addressed urgently!

Things that I love: * Excellent front desk service * Plenty of storage * Huge TV that allows you to cast from your phone or computer * Love the bathroom! Plus the door is thick and solid, so no light shines through if someone goes in at night * I easily walked everywhere that I wanted to go, perfect location Things I didn't love: * Duvet barely covers the bed * AC doesn't cool the room very well, so I woke up sweating every night * At about 9am they start playing music somewhere that you definitely hear in the first floor rooms! But there was a conference while I was there so that might not happen all the time. I would absolutely stay again, but ask for an upper floor and ask if they can supply a larger, thinner blanket.

My wife, children, and I had just arrived at the hotel. We got lost and accidentally wandered into this area. As we looked around and were about to go back, a tall, older, bald man with glasses and a somewhat stocky build approached us and loudly asked what we were doing there. I tried to explain that we wanted to go to the lobby and had gotten lost. He responded with something like, "I've been doing this job for 25 years, I can spot a liar immediately," and told us to leave, even though we were paying guests! And this was done loudly in front of my children! Never again, just because of this janitor or whatever he is.

Positive points: The undeniably fantastic location directly on the Rhine. Try to get rooms 5 and 6 with a river view on the (presumably slightly more expensive) upper floors. With the floor-to-ceiling windows (which can be opened) that span almost the entire width of the room, it's phenomenal. The rooms with a city view overlook the service yard and an office complex; even from above, there's not much of a view of Mainz's old town. The rooms themselves are a significant drawback. While the rooms are comparatively large and airy, they have a certain 80s or early 90s feel. Someone over 70 might like it, but I would describe it as "outdated." Of course, that's a matter of taste. What isn't a matter of taste is the lack of maintenance and renovation. The bathroom, in particular, urgently needs attention. The radiator has been painted over to hide the rust (replacing it would be better), and the grout doesn't look nice (it needs retiling or at least regrouting). Operating the shower requires some athleticism. If you figure out the combination of taps and are quick, you can manage to start your shower without getting a blast of cold water on your head. Otherwise, at least you'll be awake 😬. Breakfast is okay, but at €31 (if booked separately), it's relatively expensive. There's a queue at the only coffee machine during peak times. Breakfast is served until 10:00 AM, and until 11:00 AM on weekends. Don't arrive at the last minute; tables are cleared promptly and consistently. And you'll be politely asked to leave, sometimes more, sometimes less so. We unknowingly sat down at a table that was already set for lunch. This was met with annoyance, and the cloth napkin was replaced with a paper breakfast napkin. That's just not done! The reception staff is very friendly. When the heating broke down, the technician arrived quickly, as it wasn't immediately necessary. After some trouble, we received a radiator and, upon request (unfortunately not automatically), a bottle of sparkling wine. My wife's breakfast was also waived, which made up for it. In conclusion: The hotel needs a complete renovation, and some of the staff need training in friendliness and service so that it truly feels like a Hyatt Regency. The Hyatt in Berlin Potsdamer Platz, for example, shows how it's done. Everything there is top-notch, but it's also more expensive and the view isn't as nice.

One of the most comfortable Hyatt is here. Lovely hotel cozy room and clean also complimentary in room bottles of water and bathroom kit. Located in the nice and quiet area just walking distance 10-15 mins to the town. And river view in front of the hotel is great. Staffs are polite.

This was our second stay at the hotel, and this time we had a room with a view of the Rhine. Everything was spotlessly clean. The staff in all areas were very friendly and attentive. We're already looking forward to our next visit. Thank you so much for the wonderful weekend!

We had a wonderful stay for my partner’s birthday here. We stayed in Mainz for one night only and we wished it could have been longer; the staff were wonderfully helpful and the hotel was beautiful. Highlights include: the rain shower in the bathroom (which was enormous!), the nespresso machine, and the complimentary birthday cake they sent up for my boyfriend!

We've been coming to the Hyatt Mainz for many years. The location is truly unique, with direct views of the Rhine, even from many of the rooms. We can highly recommend the bar and restaurant, as well as the excellent service. The suites have already been renovated; I think the rooms are next on the list ;-). The spa and club area are currently being renovated, but that doesn't bother us. The breakfast is very good, and the service in the mornings is very attentive. A very nice hotel; we'll gladly return :-).

We had a standard room without a Rhine view for one night. The room was clean and well-equipped – excellent! The staff was very friendly and competent. The underground parking was very good. We really liked the lobby; it's huge, and the bar is very cozy – a lovely place to end the evening. The only thing I would improve would be a second coffee machine, as there was often a queue at breakfast. We will definitely come back.

Unfortunately, a very negative experience. We have been regular customers since 2018, as we deliberately hold our family Christmas celebration at a centrally located venue due to the widely dispersed family members (with a 4-6 hour journey). The bar has been ideal as a meeting point before heading to Bellpepper for dinner. However, the Asian-looking "owner" of the bar treated us contemptuously and mocked us when, on Boxing Day, our larger group wanted to have an hour of drinks/tea/non-alcoholic beverages between 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm and requested two extra chairs. Completely unprofessional behavior. Furthermore, one person in our group waited about 45 minutes for their ordered tea. The espresso arrived quickly. One star for that.

Unfortunately, our stay left a negative impression, particularly regarding service and the way guests were treated. The breakfast buffet, which cost €35 per person, fell far short of our expectations. Despite this high price, we were barely acknowledged or approached by the staff. Overall, we felt like we weren't the target clientele, which created an unpleasant feeling right from the start. This feeling was significantly reinforced by a later incident: Upon entering the hotel, there was a lot of foot traffic due to an event, with many people coming and going. It was striking that we were the only ones asked if we were hotel guests. As people with a visible migrant background, we found this targeted question inappropriate and offensive. While we don't want to assume any deliberate intent, we clearly got the impression of selective checks and thus unequal treatment. In our view, such an experience is neither respectful nor in keeping with the standards of service and hospitality one would expect from a hotel in this price range.

It was a suitable venue for a carnival-themed event on January 1st. Sometimes it's also suitable for footballers.

Beautiful hotel near the Rhine with a pool

The hotel is undoubtedly in a prime location, but I expect much, much more from a 5-star establishment. Starting with the service: no "Did you have a pleasant journey?" or "Did you enjoy your stay?" The young man at reception, with his apathy, wouldn't be a good fit for any hotel in the world. Furthermore, the room was far too dusty, the windows were dirty, and it was extremely cold (the air conditioning's heating function didn't work). I would definitely choose other hotels in this area.

The price-performance ratio is good. The staff is very friendly. We had a room with a view of the Rhine. The room and bathroom were clean. Breakfast is okay, but nothing special. On weekends, breakfast is served until 11:00 AM, and during the week until 10:00 AM. The hotel is very centrally located.

Fabienne and her team at the front desk were very helpful. A truly comfortable hotel. Our room had a beautiful view of the Rhine, allowing us to fully enjoy the sunrises and sunsets. Perfect for a couple to escape the everyday routine for a few days.

Awesome hotel! Modern design! Nice gym with treadmill, dumbbells, leg extension and curls, flyes and so on. Generally the hotel has an extraordinary design. I can only recommend the rooms with view to the Rhine. Would visit again!

We stayed there with our family for two nights. Unfortunately, one of the three rooms we booked had a strong sewage smell. Only after complaining five times was a room change possible. Before that, the complaint was acknowledged but ignored. In a hotel of this price range and standard, a different response is expected. There was no compensation or anything similar, even though the first night was truly unpleasant due to the smell. In the other two rooms, the bathrooms were also unclean and quite heavily scaled.

Because the Christmas Eve dinner took place when the heating was out, the parking bill was waived. Very kind! We'd love to come back!

Felt very classy. Best hotel gym I've ever seen and great food.

Unfortunately, the whirlpool was broken and couldn't be used. The service this time wasn't nearly as good as last time. Check-in was very impersonal; there was no mention of our loyalty as Explorist guests. No explanation of the breakfast times, nor was there a real upgrade. I paid full price; this isn't how you build customer loyalty. Do I need to call the hotline, or will I hear from the hotel directly? Regards, M.S.

I love this hotel! The location is beautiful, right on the Rhine, the rooms are lovely, and everything is within easy walking distance. The staff are all incredibly friendly and accommodating; they leave nothing to be desired! A free upgrade and a two-hour late checkout were absolutely no problem, and the upgrade was even granted without me having to ask! The hotel also has a beautiful, tranquil spa area. Many thanks to the wonderful staff; we will definitely be back!

Very nice hotel. Situated right on the Rhine with a short walk to the city center and many restaurants. The room we had was large and well equipped. Breakfast was really good! The hotel facilities (spa, pool, hot tab, sauna) were great though they were a bit crowded some of the time.

Beautiful hotel, friendly staff. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, we happened to have a chair that was ripped, and regulating the hot/cold water in the shower is tricky with the two separate handles. Other than that very good and a beautiful view of the river Rhine. Breakfast was ok, but understaffed. To also have to pay for parking with the current room-rates is a bit much (€27 per night) I think, but fairly common.

My stay at the Hyatt Regency Mainz was exceptional. The hotel stands out for its elegant and beautiful decor, which creates a welcoming atmosphere from the moment you arrive. The rooms are spacious, warm, and very comfortable, with a truly comfortable bed that guarantees a perfect night's sleep. The breakfast buffet is absolutely wonderful, with a huge variety of high-quality products. The bar is also fantastic, ideal for relaxing at the end of the day. Furthermore, the staff's service is exquisite; they are always friendly and willing to help. In short, a hotel that combines luxury, comfort, and impeccable service. I was there for a training course. I didn't use the room. Dinner was delicious, service was very friendly. The training room was very nice.

The location is great, the view is beautiful, and the staff is friendly. The price feels reasonable. The breakfast was a bit disappointing, but the salmon was there, so I was satisfied.

Despite the dignified age of the rooms, this is a highly recommended hotel right on the Rhine. The staff was as courteous as ever for the Regency family, only the car attendant was missing from the experience. A great stay!

I stayed at Hyatt Regency Mainz for a few nights and had a great experience overall. Just wanted to mention Adill from the restaurant, he was super friendly and made me feel really welcome. Really appreciated his service.

Positive: Great location right on the Rhine promenade and close to the old town. Beautiful, bright rooms with a view of the Rhine. Nicely decorated pool area including a whirlpool. Friendly staff. Not so good: Breakfast: Rudimentary cheese selection, cappuccino from the vending machine is more like a milk coffee without foam. Bar: Staff overwhelmed (too few), I was there twice with a group. The first time, paying individually wasn't possible – one person ended up paying for everyone. The second time, we asked in advance, but they still gave us a group bill, and it took a very, very long time to pay individually. A shame, because the location is actually very nice.

We stayed here recently for several days. The room with a river view was lovely. It was really nice to have face cloths, and an iron and board available without asking. The room was especially clean and comfortable. Every single staff person (other than some in the dining room) we spoke with was very helpful, courteous and friendly. The food is the bit of a downfall here. We did not find the dinners to be as nice as those we'd had other places. Leaning toward the pretentious side, without real reason to do so. The morning breakfast buffet is extensive, but the servers there seem to be unhappy with their lot in life. No matter. You'll do fine waiting on yourself. We'd be happy to stay here again, should we be in the area.

We arrived early and they assigned our room. We were so happy about that. Breakfast is buffet, many choices. Pool is beautiful.

The Hyatt Mainz was a bitter disappointment. The hotel is old and run-down – definitely not worthy of a 5-star rating. The staff was friendly, but untrained. Simple questions, like where the stairwell was, couldn't be answered. The "welcome gift" was simply embarrassing: three tiny, already melted cake crumbs in a smeared glass. If that's supposed to be the first impression, it's best to leave it out. Early check-in was included according to the rate, subject to availability. Of course, nothing was available – neither at 1:00 PM nor at 2:30 PM. It wasn't until exactly 3:00 PM, the official check-in time, that the room was suddenly "ready." This doesn't seem like a coincidence, but rather like unnecessary adherence to principles. Conclusion: For a hotel that claims to be upscale, there's little to offer here. Old, sluggish, uninspired. I certainly won't be coming back.

The reception staff is very friendly! The rooms are in desperate need of a thorough cleaning; the shower has limescale deposits, mold in the grout and drain, the showerhead holder is completely worn out, the windows are dirty, and there's dust in every corner, even above the bed and nightstand. Unfortunately, this isn't enough; mice are happily running around the restaurant/breakfast area and the bar area. This is at the hotel's stated rates! Unbelievable! The breakfast staff is also disorganized and unfriendly! I've never had such an experience in a hotel before! I was partially reimbursed for my expenses, but the refund is unjustified for this disastrous stay!

Older hotel, clean and great location

I was in the outdoor lounge area of the Hyatt Regency Mainz last Saturday and was unfortunately very disappointed with the service. After about 15 minutes, I tried several times to hail a waiter, but even though we were seen, our request was ignored. I finally approached the security guard at the side entrance and asked for assistance in sending a server to our table. A waitress then came and took our order, but she didn't seem particularly friendly. After ordering, there was no thank you or other friendly gesture, which I'm not used to in restaurants. However, the security guards asked if everything went well and apologized for the waitress's unfriendly behavior. I would like to commend the security guards for their dedication, so I'm giving them 5 stars. The service staff unfortunately disappointed me, hence only 1 star. Overall, the experience didn't meet my expectations.

A very nice 5 star hotel right on the river! Quiet, great views and a wonderful friendly staff! The breakfast buffet was amazing with an excellent choice of everything!! Fresh fruit, eggs, bacon, etc. Close to the city center for shopping and dining an easy safe walk less than 10 minutes away. Will definitely be staying here again!!

One of the best hotels in Mainz. Near the city center, 3-4 minutes walk, in a quiet place on the banks of the Rhine River. Great walk along the embankment. The hotel and rooms are clean. The rooms are bright, comfortable. Great view from the window. Bar and restaurant good service and menu.

I would have said this is a good if I hadn't stayed at Hyatt Regency Cologne the night before.

Poor service from check-in to the restaurant, breakfast, etc. Nothing worked. Ordering food anywhere was a disaster. Charging the car's electrical system was a disaster.

What can I say? Every time I stay at the Hyatt in Mainz, I feel at home. Although the hotel is large, it's simply a wonderful place – very well-maintained and incredibly clean. The fantastic team ensures that you feel completely at home. The location directly on the Rhine is incomparably magnificent. Particularly noteworthy are the wonderful terrace and the Malakov Bar, which offers fantastic drinks. The Bellpepper restaurant, with its show kitchen, always delights my palate. I also find the wine and champagne selection outstanding. In addition to Nicolas Feuillatte, there's also Abelé, both of which are absolute favorites of mine. Thank you, dear Hyatt team! 😍

A unique location on the Rhine, and the rooms with a view of the Rhine are simply divine. A wonderful breakfast buffet, a great terrace for dining and as a bar. Despite the Rhine location, the old town is a quick walk away. Absolutely perfect!

Very beautiful hotel, incredible interior. The rooms are clean, large, there is a minibar, TV. Incredible views from the windows. We were in a room with panoramic windows, and the views in the evening are simply incredible. There are delicious zastavki, very tasty cuisine. The hotel also has a swimming pool, clean and warm. Very friendly staff and affordable prices. I recommend!

Very nice, service too, outside you can enjoy a lot

As another reviewer, Mr. Oldenburg, has already written: The location is very good, but the hotel is unfortunately a bit dated. The reception and bar staff were friendly and helpful. The service is the worst I've ever experienced at a €36 breakfast buffet in a hotel of this price range. We were particularly negative about the service at breakfast at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. Furthermore, the "Eastern European blonde" manager was consistently unfriendly to her own kitchen staff - which, of course, had a significant impact on the overall customer service. By 10:30 a.m., the buffet was already largely empty. The swimming pool has also become somewhat dated. Large patches of paint are hanging from the ceiling in A4-sized pieces... Room 151 was okay, with a hard mattress (a matter of taste). The thick winter plastic pillowcase was much too warm and caused a buildup of heat. We rarely woke up too exhausted the next morning. The windows couldn't be kept open (there was a party boat nearby on the Rhine...) Someone above us was taking a shower after 11 a.m. There was a very loud noise from a pump and a whistling water pipe (a very unpleasant noise).

A very nice hotel with very friendly staff. From our room, we had a beautiful view of the Rhine and the Main estuary.

All in all the hotel is very nice, the staff have a nice welcoming attitude, with a nice level of service. The rooms are decent in terms of size and quality of furniture. However when you book, try to avoid the first floor as it doesn't have a nice view on both sides of the building. One side overlooks directly the lobby, which means you don't get any privacy since the glass doesn't have any reflection coating which means you have to keep the curtains closed during day or night. The other side of the building overlooks a kind of a backyard which is probably used for logistic purposes. Summary: very nice hotel, when you book make sure you get the second floor and up, and also to get a room overlooking the river.

Half of our family is from Mainz, and waking up in the morning with a view of the Rhine is a truly special moment. The location is fantastic, but unfortunately, there are still some aspects that should be addressed for a 5-star hotel. To be fair, these are "criticisms" and comments for the last 10% to 5%. But Mainz will soon be playing international football, and the bar is set higher. We are very grateful for this wonderful time in Mainz and are already looking forward to coming back in the summer. Beautifully located by the river, with great breakfast and decent spa. However, it's not a new hotel and the deposit policy is inopportune - I was waiting for more than 2 weeks to get it back.

We chose the Hyatt Mainz to end the evening comfortably after attending a concert. The hotel is beautifully located on the banks of the Rhine, the rooms are very nice, although the shower facilities are perhaps no longer up to date. The highlight was again the excellent breakfast, outside on the terrace with a beautiful view. 1A quality and very varied, the fresh bread is simply world class! Thanks to the entire team for a lovely stay.

As airline crew, we stay at different hotels all over the world. The Hyatt Regency Mainz is definitely one my favourite places to stay. The staff are always courteous - and smiles all around. May I commend Tina at the front desk who welcomed us for checkin and also helped with the checkout process. She made us feel welcome and at home. Even with the mixup of checkout times, she was very eager to help. Thank you Tina! Looking forward to my next stay in Frankfurt.

I had the opportunity to visit this hotel with my family and we were very satisfied. The hotel itself is beautifully designed, and the location couldn't be better - it's just a short walk from the water, ideal for relaxing strolls. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate during our stay, so we weren't able to enjoy the outside environment as much as we would have liked. Nevertheless, we were able to enjoy the time in the hotel to the fullest, as everything was very pleasant and comfortable. Overall, we were completely satisfied and will certainly be happy to come back!

Nobel hotel in a prime location in Mainz with beautiful interiors.

It was a very nice stay. I had wrote it my reservation that it was my wife's birthday in the reservation... there was a little cake and a card waiting in the room. Also there was a singer singing songs at the bar at night.

Not my first time staying in a hotel in Mainz, and I gotta say, It was one of the nicest hotels we’ve stayed at. It was just one night but the room was clean,’quiet and spacious, unfortunately quite cold outside in the corridor of the first floor as well as the room itself, which is tricky during winter. Breakfast buffet was quite disappointing as it was super busy and we got no service whatsoever, but ok, the food selection was decent, not great. The restaurant area was nice and the quality was ok though. Cute bar and lobby and the Xmas market outside was just delightful!

The hotel is nice and centrally located. The service and the cuisine are good, the price/performance ratio is right. The gym is also better equipped than most other hotels in the area. There are negative points for the far too narrow parking spaces in the underground car park, the low number of charging stations in the underground car park and the slowest hotel elevator I have ever experienced (and has been for years). The rooms are spacious and clean, but the furnishings are a bit old-fashioned, but that's a matter of taste.

The Hyatt Regency Mainz is our favorite among the Hyatt hotels. We always enjoy being there again.

We always enjoy going to the M-Lounge. A little more expensive, but that's okay: the service and ambience are good.

Lovely hotel. Wonderful staff; you can taste in every dish the love that the chef and bartenders have for their jobs. Kind, friendly (by a southern American standard), and a refreshing focus on quality over quantity. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt so comfortable in any hotel space. Also, I have to mention the spa. I have a lot of influence in my life from American Southern Baptists, and she was so kind and accommodating, somehow understanding the hesitation and anxiety I felt. Sincerely, I don’t often come across staff this lovely to work with. I’ve not even finished my stay yet; they’re worth the praise already. I hope, if you see this, that you’ll choose this fine business to patronize. They’re worth every cent.

Unique hotel with a perfect symbiosis of history and modernity! Beautiful rooms with breathtaking views of the Rhine! Very attentive staff who fulfill your wishes before you know you have them ☺️ our absolute favorite hotel.

If we didn't like it so much we wouldn't have traveled to this hotel eight times in the last 20 years.
