We had very spicy, fine cheese spaetzle and the angel plate with good red wine. Service very friendly and attentive. The decoration has too many angels for my taste. But it's worth seeing and really convincing as a whole!

A very nice restaurant surprise in the heart of Freiburg. Very nice restaurant, owners and waiters looked after us extremely warmly. We were there on September 28th, 2024. The food was super tasty, the staff was very, very nice. Funny place with little niches.

I rarely write bad reviews. Here it is more than appropriate. The staff tried very hard, unfortunately it wasn't enough. Although the restaurant was almost empty, the ordering process went very slowly. The goulash soup was canned. I don't understand why there is a distinction between small and large bowls. The quantity seems to be the same. The spaghetti was overcooked. A dollop of Bolognese sauce on the noodle, gently thrown on top. It wasn't surprising that the parmesan was missing. Overall not recommended.

The restaurant is beautifully located right next to the cathedral. It is a long, narrow tube and, for our taste, decorated with angels a bit exaggeratedly. It seems a little cheesy, but it's a matter of taste. The food is mediocre, it was a ready-made tarte flambée with very little toppings. Prices are exorbitant, even taking into account the likely high rents. Baked feta and tomato rice for 20 euros??? With a cost of goods of max. 2 euros - that's too much of a good thing. Food is overall too expensive.

Ate here twice during our stay at a nearby hotel. We enjoyed the company of Christian and staff, who welcomed us crazy Americans warmly. Would highly recommend the Engelteller dish!

Sitio agradable pero comida malísima. Pura fritanga. Una botella de agua del grifo 5€. Es mejor opción pasar x cualquier centro comercial q hay en abundancia x la zona y comprar comida preparada tipo ensalada o sándwich. Además de sitio caro y camareros antipáticos.

Das Restaurant ist etwas geschmacklos eingerichtet und lädt nicht gerade zum verweilen an. Wir hatten Glück und konnten vor dem Restaurant auf der Terrasse Platz nehmen. Der exquisite Platz direkt am Freiburger Münster ist ein großes Plus. Nachdem ich einige negative Bewertungen zum Restaurant gelesen hatte waren meine Erwartungen nicht so groß. Umso mehr überrascht war sowohl ich als auch meine Begleitung, dass das Essen wirklich lecker war. Es war einfach und nichts weltbewegendes, aber es schmeckte gut. Die Preise sind relativ hoch, das ist jedoch der zentralen Lage geschuldet und ist immer noch um einiges günstiger als die direkte Nachbarschaft es bietet, was aus meiner Sicht Fair ist. Die Bedienung war sicherlich keine gelernte Fachkraft, aber sehr nett und zuvorkommend.

The restaurant is a bit tastelessly decorated and doesn't exactly invite you to linger. We were lucky and were able to sit on the terrace in front of the restaurant. The exquisite location right next to Freiburg Cathedral is a big plus. After reading some negative reviews about the restaurant, my expectations weren't that high. Both I and my companion were even more surprised that the food was really delicious. It was simple and nothing earth shattering, but it tasted good. The prices are relatively high, but this is due to the central location and is still a lot cheaper than the immediate neighborhood, which is fair in my opinion. The waitress was certainly not a trained professional, but was very nice and accommodating.

We made reservations with 25 people and everyone was thrilled! 😊 Super lovely staff who made it possible to eat late in the evening. The dish preparation was also pretty quick for 25 people. The cuisine is quite diverse and we were all very happy with the spaetzle, cream schnitzel and tarte flambée. In addition, the outdoor area at the cathedral is very beautiful and overall a highly recommended experience🍽️

Heel erg lekker gegeten! Geen super uitgebreide kaart maar voldoende gevarieerd. De schnitzel Wiener art en bratwurst zijn wellicht niet al te chique maar waren erg lekker. Uitgebreide wijnkaart en een heerlijk terras!

Unfortunately, service was incredibly bad. We had to wait forever for service to come, even though it didn't seem like there was a lot going on. Many tables were still free. We weren't even asked if we wanted to eat anything. A friend came to our table and would have also liked to order something. But no service came and went. It was also impossible to draw attention to yourself because the waitresses were simply inaccessible. Bad service - expensive prices.

A bone-dry cordonbleu after waiting far too long with some regular fries for €33.50 is a mockery of German cuisine. The filling was tasty, but you have to peel the outside off..

We had such a lovely time here, Christian the owner and his colleague Mero, were fantastic hosts. Both provided amazing service but also made us laugh and had lots of time for us. The location is as good as it gets with amazing views of the cathedral, it's a beautiful place to relax and watch the world go by with an ice cold beer. Highly recommended.

At times it was very funny (at least for us). One of the waiters felt absolutely harassed because a guest waved at him to order something. The waiter then waved back wildly and made aggressive hand gestures. At first we thought he was joking. But he was serious and the guests left the restaurant. He probably really hates his job. In any case, our waiter was friendly. Food, well, cordon bleu was totally dry, probably frozen and my wife's turkey was still partially raw inside. Drinking something in the market square is ok, but I wouldn't eat anything there anymore. Maybe the kitchen is just overloaded due to the current mass tourism.

If there's one thing The Golden Angel does really well, it's choosing its location. Located directly at the cathedral, the view is fantastic - unfortunately it almost stays that way. The Golden Angel prizes seem to be designed for angels rather than mere mortals. Maybe they fly their ingredients straight from the sky, but unfortunately the kitchen doesn't seem to get them to cloud nine beforehand. The food is mediocre at best, and for a price that's almost eye-popping. And then there is the service – or rather, the patience that you have to have as a guest. You get the feeling that the angels are taking a little nap between orders. Maybe you dream of more efficient service? In summary: Anyone who visits the “Golden Angel” should bring a lot of time and money with them. There are at least two stars for the great view and the central location - but unfortunately the rest still has a lot of room for improvement to be truly heavenly.

The beautiful restaurant “Goldener Engel 👼” is located right in the heart of Freiburg. Rarely have we experienced such good service as there, despite rush hour. During our visit we sat outside. Suddenly it started to rain heavily. All outside guests were given a seat inside without any problems. The food was simply delicious and special requests were catered for. The price/performance ratio + the location are 100% correct. It is advisable to reserve! We're always happy to come back! A big thank you to the team💓

The best thing was the food. Point. Our entire stay is briefly summarized here. In the 1.5 hours that we spent in the outdoor area with a beautiful view of Freiburg Cathedral, people at a total of 5 tables around us left the area because they were neither greeted politely nor served. The service was really subpar. Our food (Maultauschen or Käsespätzle) tasted perfectly fine.

With a view of the market and the cathedral, we were served delicious food and a quick saying by a friendly employee (perhaps the boss?). Tarte flambée of the day was easy to vary, tarte flambée with salmon was fresh and well topped, Zurich Geschnetzeltes with spaetzle was tasty and good value for money. Clean toilets. Sitting outside is possible, nicely designed interiors. We'd love to come back.

A Monday evening so quiet. Wished I'd have checked out TA first as meal was over priced (OK it's on the square in front of Cathedral) and average at best. I had Baked Feta served with plain rice a small amount of spicy tomato sauce and jam? The feta was just a block breaded and fried. This was served with stale bread. My husband had schnitzel which was breaded and served with a wedge of lemon and fries - nothing else. Must do better, don't waste your money.

Nice place on the square. No good food, ate spaghetti and chorizo. A glass of water (still water) cost 5.20 euros!

We arrived at the location in the afternoon on Friday. The service was incredibly slow and the waiters were not very polite. I would recommend ordering a large drink to consume while waiting for your food. The food itself is ok, but you have to allow for a long time waiting.

The service staff was very friendly and immediately made us feel welcome. The ambience is extraordinary. There is a lot to discover and admire. We'd love to come back when we're in Freiburg again.
