Gasthaus im Stiefel in Bonn

Very nice typical restaurant with a good atmosphere, beautiful decor and very good dishes! We spent a very pleasant evening there. Friendly and smiling staff. Located very close to the "Beethoven House", don't hesitate to book (this is desirable) to enjoy typical and tasty cuisine! We will definitely return there during our next stay in Bonn.

We visited the Stiefel inn on January 23rd. 2025 for lunch. I chose the beef liver "Berlin style", a big mistake. The liver was completely unseasoned, the mashed potatoes were a mixture of coarse potato pieces with extremely weak seasoning, The fried onions were half raw and were poured out of the pan onto the potato mixture, dripping with fat, the announced apple wedges were a manageable two pieces. It took almost 7 minutes from taking the order to the service of the food!!!!! Of course, high-quality food cannot be produced in this short time. The service staff was attentive and motivated, appeared concerned and credibly apologized.

As always TOP Was here for lunch today, there was: kale pan with potatoes, Kasseler and Rhenish Mettwurst. Hmm delicious.

Unfortunately I didn't like the food at all. The dishes were not well seasoned and had little taste. For the price I would have expected much more. Although the service was friendly, the food was overall disappointing. I hope it gets better in the future.

We were there with several people. One of the waiters probably thought he had to let something out and slammed someone's drink onto the table so that it spilled over. Otherwise everyone is nice! The main course looked warmed up and didn't taste great either, simply due to the lack of spices. During the meal I was asked for a rating from 1 to 10 and I was STILL at a 5. Until the mouse ran across the floor....no comment. Then there was the great apple strudel which tasted completely like old greasy Frikandel. Disgustingly sorry, but THAT was too much! But not all drinks were taken again and again, so they were also charged if you didn't get them if you ordered them 3 times and got them once. Great........

As someone who often eats out, I can only say that it was the worst restaurant I have ever been to. I had the schnitzel, which was cold and old (as if warmed up), the mushrooms on it like they came from a can, the bacon and onions burnt. If you're wondering what you can do wrong with fries, you should give them a try. The cherry scramble seems to have broken out again. Ah and if you go as a large group, write down what you ordered and exactly what arrived. I've never experienced anything like that before and everyone went somewhere else to get pizza because we were all still hungry.

Never again... catastrophe... How can you rate the food in a restaurant with 5 stars... unbelievable... I was surprised that the mouse felt comfortable there...

Worst location we have ever booked. Terrible food despite pre-ordering. Microwave or from the day before? Charred onion and bacon. I don't understand how the sauerbraten got its name. The worst thing was an apple strudel that tasted like rotten meat, however they manage to do that You had to order drinks several times until you got something. The table was only cleared upon request. Some of the eating utensils were still there when we left the restaurant have left. The waiters tried hard but couldn't save the situation. A mouse was also visiting. A colleague of 27 was happy with his meal and had a salad. Since we were 27 people, we probably had no other option to find another restaurant that evening we endured it. But never again

A nice brewery. The daily specials are good and cheap. The service could be more attentive.

Very nice, old restaurant on the edge of the old town. Wood-paneled, home-style cooking. I had the Rhenish Sauerbraten, with red cabbage and potato dumplings. The consistency of the latter was like puree. I didn't say anything because dumplings taste different everywhere, maybe that's the way it is there. Otherwise, the dish was okay, even though the meat wasn't marinated in the sour broth that I know, but the same applies here: maybe that's how they do it. Unfortunately no Bonn beer, instead a good Bavarian (Benedictine) and just the usual Kölsch. I would still like to come back when I'm there.

I ordered a large salad plate with fresh mushrooms and strips of roast beef. Got a salad with 2 slices of bread without mushrooms and roast beef. I told the waiter about this, who apologized and took my salad back with him. When my companion was almost finished eating, I got my salad back. However, the strips of roast beef were more like small, tough cubes of soup meat. It was really a joke and inedible. The boot used to be really good, but now we will refrain from visiting again.

We ate a rump steak for lunch, which is available at a special price on Thursday. The beer there is also highly recommended.

We just drank a few quick Kölsch. The service was quick and friendly, despite the house being full in the run-up to Christmas.

Had dinner with 10 people. We waited over 30 minutes for our beer. It also arrived without foam. The food wasn't the best either. Boot schnitzel with mushrooms and onions. There were 4 mushroom slices and black onions on it. The cordon bleu is a children's portion and the liver is a shoe sole. After over an hour we got a second round of beer. But it wasn't us. I told the waiter (who was unfriendly, by the way), but he turned it off anyway. I said again it's not us. Waiter left. After 15 minutes this round (now stale) was placed at the next table. You ordered those too. A waitress walked around and noticed the displeasure. She was very friendly and also apologized. But for me it was the last time in the boot. My girlfriend was there 2 weeks earlier and told me that it was the same for her.

Service staff is friendly. We were told on the phone that there would be no reservations for 2 people because there is always room for 2 people. When we arrived (after a 1-hour drive) we were disappointed to find that everything was full. We were told that we could come back in 1-2 hours to see if there was anything available. Unfortunately, with a hungry stomach, we stayed somewhere else. That's why there are only 2 stars. The food is praised by many, which is certainly the case. Service staff generally friendly. But the concept with or without reservation should be reconsidered.

Ordered a table for 8 people on Friday at 6 p.m. All tables were reserved. We waited 45 minutes for the first beer. Since we made our presence known, the waiter started the round again. The reasoning was: You can see how full it is. After that it got a little better, but the friendliness remained very cold. The food was on a French fries parlor level. The price is therefore expensive. At the next men's evening, I'll ask the group to change venues. Bonn has such good and friendly places that are also very cozy. It's a shame about the traditional house.

Actually quite a nice location, albeit very loud. The service was overwhelmed and/because disorganized with a full house during Advent, so not as attentive and friendly as it should have been. Long waiting times for drinks. The food was average at best ("Himmel un Ääd" is different) and far too expensive for the service. In addition, there is far too little space at the tables, a common method of squeezing as much yield as possible out of the available space. Sat at a table that smelled like a toilet in front of the door to the men's room (deduction for ambience). Very unpleasant. Another disappointment in the city of Bonn, which is not short on culinary disappointments.

Very friendly and well organized staff, the drinks came quickly. Unfortunately, the food was not of the same quality as it cost. The kösespätzle were dry and, with all my love, that has nothing to do with cheese spaetzle. The meat was also dry with our colleagues and the portions were not justified for the price. It's a shame because this store used to have a better reputation.

We walked in on a Thrusday evening and they did not disappoint. One of the best Wiener schitzels (there were 2 on the plate) I've had in a while! The baked potatoes were fantastic. We took the homemade Stiefel Krauterlikör to finish it all up. We tried to make reservations for the next evening but they were fully booked. Too bad.

Unfortunately there are very few types of beer and relatively expensive.

Lettuce and red cabbage cut way too coarsely. We always had to wait a long time until we got drinks. I wouldn't recommend it.

The service was friendly and the soup tasted good. Today I ordered the Leberkäseschnitzel lunch menu, but unfortunately the food was not satisfactory. Despite being deep fried, the meat loaf was not warm and crispy. The chef may have prepared the food beforehand. I was very disappointed as I had visited the restaurant on the recommendation of the tourist center.

Drink beer - good. Food was loveless. It's a shame, heaven and earth - mashed potatoes and applesauce tasted good, but a small portion. Black pudding resembled briquettes, also in terms of taste.

Definitely order their potato soap, which is served in a bread. I had their schnitzel as main course and really enjoyed it! There is a parking garage right accross the street, if you are bringing your car.

Went there for dinner. The portions were really small and the price was high. The taste was good... The staff was friendly...I found the mouse running on the floor exciting.🙈

The taste of the food is mediocre, but the portion size is outrageous! Viennese schnitzel for 25€ but then put 100g schnitzel on the plate and some burnt fried potatoes. What a disgrace! The portion size of the grilled knuckles is ok, but the taste is a disaster. How the many good reviews come about is a mystery to us. There were 10 of us guests and no one was happy. Stay away!

Typical Rhenish brewery. Definitely great for drinking beer. Unfortunately, the portion sizes and the quality of the food are disproportionate to the prices. None of us were full.

So, the boot is a shop where you can go or be taken with larger groups. Is in the city center, offers plenty of space. Impression from my first visit: The service was attentive and friendly, but was ultimately overwhelmed by a group of 27 people despite reservations and pre-orders (and ultimately: even though it is the store's core business) - the drink order took too long to be placed, the drink was ordered Then it ran out, delivery of the drinks took too long, the drink glass was not clean. The quality of the food was ok, but the order didn't arrive completely. Numbers dragged on. I didn't think it was that great in terms of the "sound design" for a large group; I could only talk to the immediate neighbor, everything further away was lost in the noise. Food... There were vegetarian options, I thought the food was ok, but it didn't blow me away either. Maybe I had a bad day, but somehow it wasn't right overall. I think what annoyed me most was that it was a challenge to order drinks and get them in a timely manner - that shouldn't actually happen in a store like that. Overall it felt pretty bland.

It's a shame, but you learn from trying 🥴 Despite supposedly full capacity, there are plenty of empty seats. A service staff who was somewhat overwhelmed due to lone fighters inside and outside. The nice gentleman from the counter crew, who despite everything still had time for the private visit and was verbose about all sorts of things about the reason for the long wait 🤬 why does he make your problems the guest's problems?? The food? Way down there🤬 Offering Berlin-style liver like that to a Berliner is what I call sporty. There seemed to be no more onions either. A little tip: a teaspoon full isn't really enough. What role did the liter of dark sauce play in this recipe? Your secret. This also applies to the chemical mash from the bag/can, affectionately known as homemade mashed potatoes. Consistency? Lubricating grease is putting it mildly, not to mention the smell. The secret of the half tomato on the dish???? Decoration? Had to leave?? You don't know. As I said, it's a shame. Given the name and the recessions, I expected something completely different. And if you tell your foreign visitor something highly about this store beforehand……. Never again and my experiences and experiences are certainly useful for friends and acquaintances. The condition of the men's toilet was probably also due to the staff shortage that was repeatedly mentioned and vociferously advertised. And actually this sight should have been a warning of what was to come.

Food was okay. It’s basically right next door to the Beethoven museum, so the location is good. I wouldn’t say the service here is friendly. The gentleman who served us saw us gesturing him and after eye contact was made, still chose to ignore us. It got to the point of being necessary to yell to get his attention. Once at the table, he acted inpatient and annoyed. Otherwise, a good place.

I don't understand how people can give this restaurant 5 stars. I think it's the worst restaurant I've been to in recent years in terms of food quality. The service is OK, but the dishes are almost inedible, especially compared to the price: a schnitzel with fries and burnt onions for over 20 euros, while I eat better in the canteen for 6 euros.

The food was actually very good. However, the service was a bit brisk and when we asked whether a small salad would also be served with a €20 cordon bleu (pork), the answer was a curt "NO". When the food came, I unfortunately had to agree with the partly negative reviews here. The schnitzel was the size of the back of a full-sized hand and, along with a normal-sized portion of fries, was obviously not nearly enough to fill you up. Conclusion: Good food, but if you want to be full, you have to dig deep into your pockets. No thanks, not again

Was here at the invitation of Samsung. Large selection! The schnitzel was delicious and the staff was very friendly. Local beer, local dessert, everything was good. I would like to come back next time I am in Bonn.

I don't really understand stores like that. As a host, you have to have a certain interest in offering something to the customer. Be it through good quality food or service. Here they only seem to want to see the guests once, which is a shame

The knuckle I was looking forward to was gone. So Cordon Bleu. Wrong choice. The fries were overly crunchy, the cherry tomato - once halved - was pretty much lost on the plate. The meat itself was about the size of the palm of my hand. At a price of almost 20 euros, the meal was very affordable. I was disappointed and found it almost outrageous. Could this have been a children's plate? I don't know if the boot will see me again.

Bonn ist eine Reise wert. Es gibt einiges interessantes anzuschauen z.b. das Beethovenhaus, der Marktplatz, die gut erhaltene Architektur. Auch die Lage direkt am Rhein bietet viele Möglichkeiten. Wir haben eine Tour mit dem Hop on Hop of Bus gemacht, die hat uns einen guten Überblick verschafft.

Typical place with characteristic interiors! The environment is welcoming and ancient, the dishes are plentiful and very good, right for the price. The sauces on my meat were delicious and I always ate with pleasure. The fries are also particularly good. A must try place if you want to eat traditional food! No mice though :/

The truth is that the food, for us, was absolutely not tasty. Also, I found it a bit pricey for its portions. Otherwise, very polite and good service, nice atmosphere.

The ambience is okay, but the price-performance ratio is absolutely not okay. In the photo you can see the Cordon Bleu - it feels like a children's portion. Charging 18.90 for this is a bad joke. Note the size relationship to the lemon slice. Previously I was there on steak day and had a rump steak: so tough that I didn't want to finish it. As a Bonner I will avoid it and never go there to eat again. A pity!

Very great, rustic restaurant. Can sometimes be a little crowded with tourists, but that's also due to the location. The service is quick and friendly, the drinks and food are very tasty, although not exactly cheap.

Wir lieben Traditionsgaststätten und hatten am 11.11.2023 hier gut gegessen und getrunken. Deshalb besuchten wir wieder den "Stiefel" und ließen uns draußen nieder. Sowohl der Service wie das Essen war eine Enttäuschung. Meine Frau und ich hatten den "Sauerbraten". Er war trocken und schmeckte weder meiner Frau noch mir. Das Essen wurde ohne Besteck serviert. Auch befand sich auf unserem Tisch kein Krug mit Besteck und Servietten. Als wir höflich darauf hinwiesen, erwiderte der Kellner schroff, wir hätten Besteck! Erst als wir nochmals das fehlende Besteck monierten, sah er auf den Tisch und brachte uns dann das Besteck aus der Gaststube.

Judging by some of the reviews, I probably had a bad day yesterday. Ordered boot schnitzel... What was positive was that the schnitzel was on the table after 20 minutes. That's it. Definitely a frozen piece of meat that was heated in the deep fryer. The fried egg was lukewarm and covered a pile of over-fried onions that were also cold. Unfortunately, this gave the impression that the onions were still in the pan from another preparation and had to go. For almost €24 I expect something different. My wife had the Jägerschnitzel, which she said was good. Unfortunately, the excellent service from the waiters doesn't save my rating. Despite the fairly clean toilets, the place can be described as "rocky". ...one look at the walls and ceiling is enough! Was there really Bitburger in the tap? No idea. At least the bit tastes different at home and in my local pub.

Attention: Updated rating below. Really nice inn, hearty food, decent beer and a nice, cozy atmosphere that invites you to linger. In addition to classic Bohemian dishes, you can also find good Bonn/Rhineland classics such as potato pancakes (Rievkooche) or "Himmel un Ääd" (Heaven and Earth). According to the menu, the potato pancakes are rather atypical for the Rhineland with salmon, but can also be served classically with apple sauce if desired (I'm surprised that this is missing from the menu). Of course, the price is not cheap due to the location. Attention revision: Slight reduction after another visit: We now had 2x Jägerschnitzel and the sauerbraten in the men's group. The taste was good, but the portions were so small that we couldn't get enough. Honestly: Fries don't cost anything, something like that shouldn't happen! And if someone orders extra fries, they cost zero € and there is an excuse! Instead, shortly before 9, the request came to order the last round and then drink it quickly!!! You couldn't imagine something like that. I embarrassed myself to the bone in front of my guests with the number. Definitely the last time in boots with men.

I always visit “the boot pub” when in Bonn. Uncomplicated but delicious traditional food and great German beer with friendly service. However I saw a mouse in the dining room so they should get a cat!

Down-to-earth restaurant with the same cuisine. Definitely a place of joy for fans of hearty food. All of our dishes taste delicious and everyone was full 😉 Reservations recommended.

Interesting historical place, next (close) to the Beethoven's house in Bonn. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere.

Had lunch today at the inn in Boots. The dishes on the menu sounded very tempting. We chose the Jägerschnitzel, Wiener Schnitzel and Cordon Bleu. And these dishes also cost a good amount of money, around 20-26 euros. In return you got a portion of schnitzel smaller than your hand, which was cold or undercooked. I've never had such a disappointing meal for so much money. Wouldn't recommend it.

Good morning, We picked out the restaurant online and went there because of the good reviews. What can I say >> we were not disappointed. my wife had the Rhenish sauerbraten and I had the much-praised boot schnitzel. Both perfect and very tasty. We can only recommend it. The price/performance ratio is definitely given. We were completely satisfied and would like to come back.

I'll say...an almost typical brewery. We were there with a large group. Unfortunately, we were given the "instructions" at the beginning that we were not allowed to move around during the evening, otherwise the billing would not work. Bad announcement, in my opinion, because I can hardly ask that of my guests. Then you should probably use the good method of writing cover letters on beer mats for the evening. This has already proven itself elsewhere. The drinks came quickly and were good so far. The food had already been pre-ordered using a separate menu and then arrived in batches. First the salads, then the "dead" grandma, etc. On the whole, the dishes were tasty and appropriate for a brewery. So far there was nothing to complain about...but at the end when paying, despite what was announced at the beginning, there was chaos.

Simply wonderful. I wanted to go to a traditional German place and this was it and absolutely loved it. Great food, great service, and a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Many visitors but also very many locals.
