The food was only okay, and the prices were quite high. But the service was very nice and friendly, and the atmosphere was good. Unfortunately, the soap in the men's restroom was empty, and it smelled pretty bad.

We were there today with a group of 10 people. The prices are high, but the value for money isn't right. Expensive food that's merely average—something's not right. And when we wanted to reorder drinks, a waiter grumpily refused to take our order. He didn't send a colleague over, and we waited 10 minutes—that's not how you make any money. The table was cleared while some people were still eating. The foundation of good dining is lacking. Unfortunately!

Eight of us went to Gasthaus Stiefel, and everyone was thrilled. We had a very friendly and attentive waitress who took great care of us. Her other colleagues were equally dedicated. The drinks were served quickly, and we didn't have to wait long for the food either. I had specifically chosen the inn so I could enjoy Rhenish cuisine. I therefore chose the classic "Himmel und Ääd" (Heaven and the Sheep) and was very pleased; it was overwhelmingly delicious. The other dishes, including knuckle of pork, cordon bleu, gnocchi and mushroom pan, and schnitzel, which my companions ordered, were also very tasty, beautifully presented, and plentiful. There are also several vegetarian and vegan dishes on the menu, but a local inn naturally has a strong emphasis on meat. Last but not least: the ambiance at Stiefel is unique. You can feel the restaurant's long history, yet it isn't outdated. Very clean restrooms rounded off the good picture. A recommendation for anyone who wants to experience authentic Bonn gastronomy.

Upon entering the restaurant, you'll be greeted by carved wooden pillars and friendly staff. Enjoy traditional German cuisine with a beer and simple Chinese dishes. (I only found out after asking that this restaurant has been in operation since 1773!)

We were totally surprised. We had lunch today for 9.50 per person and didn't expect much. But the schnitzel with fries and gravy tasted very good. It was also filling. Where else can you eat well for under 30 these days? Definitely here.

Next to the Beethoven-Haus, a cozy old German-style restaurant: we enjoyed the hustle and bustle with 9 people and had a great meal 😊

Unfortunately, there was a hair in the salad, and the dressing tasted like Maggi and was warm. The service was good, but we had made a reservation for a large group and had already placed our orders, but we still waited 50 minutes for our food.

Unfortunately, it was bad. We waited forever for drinks despite ordering three times, sometimes up to an hour for one round, and the food was bad (canned salad, pickled chanterelles not fresh, etc.). Sorry. I never give such bad reviews, but that's not possible. You can save yourself the trouble.

A traditional inn in the heart of Bonn. Delicious food in a rustic atmosphere. The portions are large and tasty.

The only truly positive aspect was the friendly service. I ordered a beef fillet with mashed potatoes. While the meat was well grilled, the rest of the plate seemed completely overloaded and unbalanced. Everything was extremely salty, and the flavors overwhelmed each other, so that no clear taste was discernible. The mashed potatoes weren't plain, but mixed with gravy, mushrooms, onions, and other ingredients. This lacked the typical, creamy, delicate base you'd expect from a classic mashed potato. Especially in German cuisine, emphasis is placed on clear components on the plate that are convincing both individually and in combination. My husband chose a schnitzel with fries—a dish that could be considered Germany's culinary calling card. Here, too, the execution fell well short of expectations. For a portion of around €20, you expect high-quality preparation and attractive presentation. Instead, we were presented with a plate decorated almost carelessly: half a tomato as a garnish and – completely inappropriate – a slice of lemon in the mushroom sauce. From the perspective of German culinary tradition and the plate arrangement, the whole thing was neither harmonious nor authentic. It's a shame, because the beef fillet itself was certainly of high quality, but was devalued by the rest of the dish. The 3 stars 🌟 🌟 🌟 are solely for the attentive staff and the beautiful building.

Four of us spontaneously stopped by the Zum Stiefel restaurant for dinner. We were greeted very warmly by a young waiter and shown to our table. Our food, starter and main course, were delicious. The attentiveness of the waiter made it a successful evening. Keep up the good work!

I tried the Sauerbraten, it was really flavourful and the sauce was very aromatic. I also like the wooden decorations of the building.

Unfortunately, the potato pancakes and fried potatoes tasted so much like old grease that the salad was the only thing left on the plates that was edible. Service was okay, but the restaurant smelled strongly of sewage.

Good food, schnitzel, steaks, dumplings, fries

I was there with a few colleagues on June 9th. A chic, rustic restaurant, especially the copper bar. The bartender with the pen behind his ear was very steady, as was the house schnapps in a boot-shaped glass. The food was okay, but nothing outstanding.

Typical German restaurant located in a pleasant part of town. The servers were pleasant and the food met expectations. Thank you!

Today I ate at the Gasthaus im Stiefel in downtown Bonn for the first time. The food was okay, but unfortunately, there was almost no cheese in the cordon bleu. I told the waiter I'd like some mayonnaise and ketchup, but unfortunately, I didn't get any. The high chair we were given was beyond dirty. Even cleaning it ourselves didn't remove the dirt!

Horrible food, extremely slow service, even when the place isn't busy. The Kölsch beer is tasty and, thankfully, not homemade.

Traditional restaurant near the Beethoven House. We were there for lunch on the packed terrace and received prompt and friendly service. There was nothing wrong with our breaded redfish fillet with potato, cucumber, and radish salad. We were happy and will be back.

There were three of us and we got pretty much the worst service in Bonn, totally overwhelmed assistants who had zero overview of their customers and zero self-reflection, so that everything was wrong from start to finish. It starts with the drinks, the wrong sizes are brought, according to the waitress there are only large Kölsch left outside even though three orders for 0.2 had already been received, when we asked about it a young man came from the counter and stood in front of us and said the waitress had apparently booked incorrectly, making no attempt to admit or correct the mistake. All I can say about the food, even if it is only brewery cuisine, it was abysmal, ordered potato pancakes with salmon which were mushy, the salmon was of the lowest quality with no taste, a shame about the animal that had to die for it, the second plate came with fried potatoes where a good third was burnt, just bad. The service pointed this out with zero reaction, not even the plates were cleared away. For us, this brewery is no longer a place to go in Bonn and we will definitely not recommend it. It's a shame about such a beautiful, traditional establishment.

Unfortunately, the service took a long time to assign tables and was slow to take orders, even though the restaurant was very empty. The food was not very well prepared. The ingredients were poorly distributed and the proportions were not right. The glasses had an unpleasant odor, and the waitress frequently ignored us. Overall, the visit was, unfortunately, very disappointing.

Visually, the restaurant is beautiful. Unfortunately, the rest of the menu leaves much to be desired. Not all drinks from the menu were available, the food was mediocre at best, some glasses had a very strange, disgusting smell, and you often had to wait a long time for service (even though there weren't many other customers there). A real shame and disappointing.

Just a few doors down from Beethoven's birth house is this lovely traditional bar and restaurant serving Gaffel Kölsch. Paulicarus and Boothroyd know Beethoven from the 90's movies. I have lots of his music and all 9 symphonies, did not watch the movies. Decided to share one portion of local dish "Heaven and earth." The 9.9€ special of the day. Super. Only downside is the busy ring road a few meters away from the outdoor seating. Quieter inside but too nice a day to miss out on al fresco dining.

We wanted to have a final drink this Saturday afternoon, April 19th 5:30pm, after a beautiful day in Bonn. Unfortunately, after about 20 minutes, we gave up waiting and left again. We waited outside, the waiter passed by several times, but he was unable to recognize our empty table and, if necessary, take an order. For your information: the restaurant was empty inside. Unfortunately this has now happened to us for the second time in 3 weeks and we will not be coming back

The three of us went into the restaurant and waited politely in the entrance to be seated. After 5 minutes we went to the counter and asked if we could sit at the table. After another 5 minutes, someone from US got the menus because we still weren't served. There were 3 waitresses behind the counter and no one felt responsible. After another 5 minutes I asked for the allergen card. Another 10 minutes later we gave up and then left. 3 waiters, the restaurant almost empty and no eye contact with the guests. Sorry but... even one star is a gift

Gasthaus zum Boots in Bonn Sat outside and waited for over half an hour and no service came. When I went in I asked and the waitress said I couldn't come out in 10 minutes, I couldn't even order a beer because the tables hadn't been cleared. Overall, I left. You don't have to bother

Unfortunately the food was absolutely inedible. You should definitely avoid ordering salad, salad from the bag tastes musty, goat cheese is inedible and swims in sauce. None of the 6 guests were satisfied. The only thing you can enjoy there is the cold Kölsch. The locomotive action is pretty bland and the really loud music doesn't fit into the ambience at all. The waiters were also quite inattentive and not really friendly. Conclusion: Bonn has much better restaurants to offer and all 6 people will avoid the shop in the future.

Very nice typical restaurant with a good atmosphere, beautiful decor and very good dishes! We spent a very pleasant evening there. Friendly and smiling staff. Located very close to the "Beethoven House", don't hesitate to book (this is desirable) to enjoy typical and tasty cuisine! We will definitely return there during our next stay in Bonn.

We visited the Stiefel inn on January 23rd. 2025 for lunch. I chose the beef liver "Berlin style", a big mistake. The liver was completely unseasoned, the mashed potatoes were a mixture of coarse potato pieces with extremely weak seasoning, The fried onions were half raw and were poured out of the pan onto the potato mixture, dripping with fat, the announced apple wedges were a manageable two pieces. It took almost 7 minutes from taking the order to the service of the food!!!!! Of course, high-quality food cannot be produced in this short time. The service staff was attentive and motivated, appeared concerned and credibly apologized.

Worst location we have ever booked. Terrible food despite pre-ordering. Microwave or from the day before? Charred onion and bacon. I don't understand how the sauerbraten got its name. The worst thing was an apple strudel that tasted like rotten meat, however they manage to do that You had to order drinks several times until you got something. The table was only cleared upon request. Some of the eating utensils were still there when we left the restaurant have left. The waiters tried hard but couldn't save the situation. A mouse was also visiting. A colleague of 27 was happy with his meal and had a salad. Since we were 27 people, we probably had no other option to find another restaurant that evening we endured it. But never again

Tasty regional food, very tasty, the whole group was thrilled.

As someone who often eats out, I can only say that it was the worst restaurant I have ever been to. I had the schnitzel, which was cold and old (as if warmed up), the mushrooms on it like they came from a can, the bacon and onions burnt. If you're wondering what you can do wrong with fries, you should give them a try. The cherry scramble seems to have broken out again. Ah and if you go as a large group, write down what you ordered and exactly what arrived. I've never experienced anything like that before and everyone went somewhere else to get pizza because we were all still hungry.

We were there with several people. One of the waiters probably thought he had to let something out and slammed someone's drink onto the table so that it spilled over. Otherwise everyone is nice! The main course looked warmed up and didn't taste great either, simply due to the lack of spices. During the meal I was asked for a rating from 1 to 10 and I was STILL at a 5. Until the mouse ran across the floor....no comment. Then there was the great apple strudel which tasted completely like old greasy Frikandel. Disgustingly sorry, but THAT was too much! But not all drinks were taken again and again, so they were also charged if you didn't get them if you ordered them 3 times and got them once. Great........

Unfortunately I didn't like the food at all. The dishes were not well seasoned and had little taste. For the price I would have expected much more. Although the service was friendly, the food was overall disappointing. I hope it gets better in the future.

Very nice, old restaurant on the edge of the old town. Wood-paneled, home-style cooking. I had the Rhenish Sauerbraten, with red cabbage and potato dumplings. The consistency of the latter was like puree. I didn't say anything because dumplings taste different everywhere, maybe that's the way it is there. Otherwise, the dish was okay, even though the meat wasn't marinated in the sour broth that I know, but the same applies here: maybe that's how they do it. Unfortunately no Bonn beer, instead a good Bavarian (Benedictine) and just the usual Kölsch. I would still like to come back when I'm there.

I ordered a large salad plate with fresh mushrooms and strips of roast beef. Got a salad with 2 slices of bread without mushrooms and roast beef. I told the waiter about this, who apologized and took my salad back with him. When my companion was almost finished eating, I got my salad back. However, the strips of roast beef were more like small, tough cubes of soup meat. It was really a joke and inedible. The boot used to be really good, but now we will refrain from visiting again.

We ate a rump steak for lunch, which is available at a special price on Thursday. The beer there is also highly recommended.

We just drank a few quick Kölsch. The service was quick and friendly, despite the house being full in the run-up to Christmas.

Had dinner with 10 people. We waited over 30 minutes for our beer. It also arrived without foam. The food wasn't the best either. Boot schnitzel with mushrooms and onions. There were 4 mushroom slices and black onions on it. The cordon bleu is a children's portion and the liver is a shoe sole. After over an hour we got a second round of beer. But it wasn't us. I told the waiter (who was unfriendly, by the way), but he turned it off anyway. I said again it's not us. Waiter left. After 15 minutes this round (now stale) was placed at the next table. You ordered those too. A waitress walked around and noticed the displeasure. She was very friendly and also apologized. But for me it was the last time in the boot. My girlfriend was there 2 weeks earlier and told me that it was the same for her.

Service staff is friendly. We were told on the phone that there would be no reservations for 2 people because there is always room for 2 people. When we arrived (after a 1-hour drive) we were disappointed to find that everything was full. We were told that we could come back in 1-2 hours to see if there was anything available. Unfortunately, with a hungry stomach, we stayed somewhere else. That's why there are only 2 stars. The food is praised by many, which is certainly the case. Service staff generally friendly. But the concept with or without reservation should be reconsidered.

Ordered a table for 8 people on Friday at 6 p.m. All tables were reserved. We waited 45 minutes for the first beer. Since we made our presence known, the waiter started the round again. The reasoning was: You can see how full it is. After that it got a little better, but the friendliness remained very cold. The food was on a French fries parlor level. The price is therefore expensive. At the next men's evening, I'll ask the group to change venues. Bonn has such good and friendly places that are also very cozy. It's a shame about the traditional house.

Actually quite a nice location, albeit very loud. The service was overwhelmed and/because disorganized with a full house during Advent, so not as attentive and friendly as it should have been. Long waiting times for drinks. The food was average at best ("Himmel un Ääd" is different) and far too expensive for the service. In addition, there is far too little space at the tables, a common method of squeezing as much yield as possible out of the available space. Sat at a table that smelled like a toilet in front of the door to the men's room (deduction for ambience). Very unpleasant. Another disappointment in the city of Bonn, which is not short on culinary disappointments.

Very friendly and well organized staff, the drinks came quickly. Unfortunately, the food was not of the same quality as it cost. The kösespätzle were dry and, with all my love, that has nothing to do with cheese spaetzle. The meat was also dry with our colleagues and the portions were not justified for the price. It's a shame because this store used to have a better reputation.

We walked in on a Thrusday evening and they did not disappoint. One of the best Wiener schitzels (there were 2 on the plate) I've had in a while! The baked potatoes were fantastic. We took the homemade Stiefel Krauterlikör to finish it all up. We tried to make reservations for the next evening but they were fully booked. Too bad.

Unfortunately there are very few types of beer and relatively expensive.

Lettuce and red cabbage cut way too coarsely. We always had to wait a long time until we got drinks. I wouldn't recommend it.

The service was friendly and the soup tasted good. Today I ordered the Leberkäseschnitzel lunch menu, but unfortunately the food was not satisfactory. Despite being deep fried, the meat loaf was not warm and crispy. The chef may have prepared the food beforehand. I was very disappointed as I had visited the restaurant on the recommendation of the tourist center.

Drink beer - good. Food was loveless. It's a shame, heaven and earth - mashed potatoes and applesauce tasted good, but a small portion. Black pudding resembled briquettes, also in terms of taste.

Definitely order their potato soap, which is served in a bread. I had their schnitzel as main course and really enjoyed it! There is a parking garage right accross the street, if you are bringing your car.

Went there for dinner. The portions were really small and the price was high. The taste was good... The staff was friendly...I found the mouse running on the floor exciting.🙈
