Gasthaus Gotthardgarten in München

Excellent restaurant in Munich's Laim district. A very charming place, especially in the summer, the outdoor area is reminiscent of a classic and always charming German beer garden. Very friendly staff. I personally ordered a plate of Spätzle with a mushroom and beef sauce. I found it delicious. Excellent selection of beers. Reservations are recommended (you can make one directly on the website). Card payments are accepted. A menu is available in English.

Addendum/addition to my review from yesterday: I had the pike-perch fillet with spinach and potatoes today – absolutely delicious! For me, this is one of the most outstanding restaurants I've ever visited. Great staff, excellent food, and a pleasant atmosphere – what more could you want?

The Wiener schnitzel and salad were served very quickly, which gave us pause. It was a well-breaded, heavily buttered schnitzel, simply pulled from a warming convection oven, served with a handful of heavily salted convenience fried potatoes. The salad was also, unfortunately, poorly prepared. In the end, we had to wait a very long time for the bill, even though the beer garden was only one-third full...

09/2025 Very nice ambiance. Very friendly service. Adequate selection of drinks and food. One star deducted for the meatloaf with chanterelle mushrooms. Unfortunately, it was too salty and covered in braised onions, which wasn't on the menu, and there were only a few chanterelle mushrooms. And a 0.4l wine spritzer in a 0.2l wine glass that was filled to the top isn't really my thing. Either get a 0.4l glass, please, or a carafe with the wine glass. Restroom clean.

We were there for the first time today and were immediately impressed! Great atmosphere, extremely friendly and attentive service. On top of that, the food was out of this world! My friend would say it was like God made real. Thank you again for the wonderful evening and the experience!

From the outside, the restaurant looks a bit unassuming. But as soon as we entered the beer garden, it became cozy, romantic, and quaint. All the tables were beautifully set, under trees and shielded from traffic by a hedge. We were surprised and very pleased by the ambiance. Inside, everything is modern and cozy. The staff was very friendly. The value for money was good. We were completely satisfied with the food, and the portions were generous. The menu was varied and typically Bavarian. As far as we know, you can also order your food by phone and then pick it up. Keep up the good work!

A modern, contemporary inn with a beer garden. A very friendly staff. Several tables can be placed together upon request. The interior is clean and modernly furnished. Hearty Bavarian food, the suckling pig was unfortunately a bit difficult in texture and flavor, the schnitzel was excellent, but the potato salad was very unspectacular. The highlight, of course, was the enormous Kaiserschmarrn (smothered pancakes) for 17.90. Top-notch preparation, beautifully caramelized. Friendly and attentive service, dog-friendly!

We've been coming to the Gotthardgarten regularly for many years. The food is always excellent (we've been eating the Domschnitzel for 10 years now 😀), the atmosphere is friendly and informal, and the renovation has made the ambiance even better. Simply fantastic!

Our server Adela is simply amazing. Besides her exceptional service, she is also an amazing person. We left a small bag when we ate here and only realized the following day. My expectations were completely exceeded on my last visit to the Gasthaus Gotthardgarten! I ordered the Wiener Schnitzel with fried potatoes and was delighted. The schnitzel was perfectly breaded, tender, and juicy—exactly as a Wiener Schnitzel should be. The fried potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, perfectly seasoned, and an excellent complement to the main course. The service was also excellent. The staff was attentive, friendly, and quick, without being intrusive. You immediately felt welcome and well-cared for. The ambiance of the inn is also very appealing, cozy, and inviting. It was an all-around pleasant experience. I can wholeheartedly recommend the Gasthaus Gotthardgarten and am already looking forward to my next visit to try more dishes. If you're looking for traditional, home-style cooking in a pleasant atmosphere, this is the place for you! A definite recommendation from me.

I was here three years ago, and everything was great. Today, I was extremely disappointed. First, they added €1 because I wanted fries instead of salad (you can tell me beforehand), and they charged €0.60 extra for a small package. Where does that happen? The service was okay, but you HAVE to say something like that!!! I definitely won't be coming again.

Got lunch there today. Conclusion: It was simply unbelievably good. The best roast pork and the best Kaiserschmarrn ever. Thank you for still having restaurateurs who care about quality, and a shout out to the kitchen: TOP!

Reservation super recommended on weekends for lunch, it was fully booked when I went so glad we had one. Classic Bayern dishes, menu of the day available as well as the normal menu. Asparagus were available now for the season so consider those, they are delicious.

We were able to drop in spontaneously at 4 p.m. It wasn't busy, and we were quickly treated to a delicious and the best schnitzel ever. Very comfortable seating and highly recommended!

I was very pleasantly surprised! For starters, I had a hearty beef soup with noodles and fresh vegetables – cauliflower, broccoli, and carrots – everything was nice and crispy, the soup was flavorful, and the noodles were cooked to perfection. For my main course, I had the Viennese fried chicken: super crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside – just as it should be. The potato salad was perfectly balanced, with tomatoes, radishes, and a delicious potato and cucumber salad on the side. One small downside: Unfortunately, cranberries weren't served, even though they're often a staple in Austria – but they weren't on the menu either. I reordered them, but unfortunately, they weren't available. Nevertheless, the place was very busy for a Monday, with an international clientele, and the service staff was extremely friendly and attentive. You feel completely at home there – I'd love to come back!

Nice restaurant with a beer garden feel, right on the street, but the noise level is perfectly acceptable. The main courses are really great, although there could be more vegetarian options. On the other hand, the desserts and pastries haven't really impressed me. Apple strudel wasn't really my thing; it was too bland. The Kaiserschmarrn is ridiculously large, so I'd say two big eaters would be satisfied as a main course here. On the plus side, it's made with raisins and almonds and is well caramelized, which is how it should be. On the down side, the consistency is extremely compact, 3cm thick lumps with no visible air in them; fluffy is better. The coffee is average, a bit too strong for my taste.

Recently renovated, excellent traditional Bavarian restaurant. The Käsespätzle for example are home-made, hand-made (!). The menu is limited but all dishes are very well prepared and high quality. Additionally, the restaurant offers seasonal dishes like asparagus. Value is great for the food quality and most dishes come with side salad. Also offering special Italian coffee and espresso (Hausbrandt). Staff is quick and very friendly. Highly recommended!

The decor is very new and a mix of sobriety and old-school style, reminiscent of a Bavarian inn. We've been there several times with our company, and in terms of quality, it's one of the better Bavarian restaurants in Munich. The price/performance ratio is excellent. The portions are extra-large, the ingredients are fresh, and the taste is unbeatable. The clientele tends to be older, but the atmosphere is very cozy. There's also a small, sheltered outdoor area where you can sit comfortably. The overall package is absolutely perfect, and I'd happily recommend the restaurant if you're looking for a quiet evening away from tourists.

Very good cuisine for many years

What a pleasant discovery! Down-to-earth and tasty dishes are served under a mighty chestnut tree: the lamb tastes like lamb and the vegetables are not overcooked but have a bite and a sausage salad is so wonderfully balanced in vinegar without drowning in sourness that you are tempted to wipe the plate with bread. In addition, despite being close to the street, you can sit quietly in the garden and have a conversation without having to shout at each other.

5 star Bavarian German dining experience. We were seated immediately although I am told that it is wise to make a reservation. I had the Wienerschnitzel and my family had the the pig with skin special and dumplings. The coleslaw which my son and I don't typically eat was also delicious. Then we finished it off with a scrumptious apple strudel. The staff is very friendly and proud of their food. We want to explore other places to eat while we are here but we may come right back here.
