Gasthaus Bären in Stuttgart

A really cool restaurant serving a variety of Swabian tapas. We were visiting Stuttgart for the weekend and happened to come across Gasthaus Bären in the early afternoon. We only had drinks, but we liked the concept of Swabian tapas so much that we wanted to reserve a table for the evening. The waiter said they were fully booked for the weekend for quite some time, so unfortunately we couldn't eat there. We would therefore recommend that everyone book in advance; it can't be a disappointment if a restaurant is fully booked for a while on the weekend.

Overall, a nice experience and a good idea. Good atmosphere. However, the portions were a bit too small for me.

We visited for lunch after seeing several positive reviews, but unfortunately left quite disappointed. The restaurant offers a tapas-style menu meant for sharing, yet the portion sizes were more suited to single servings than shared plates. Ordering was done by marking selections on a paper card, but our server provided no explanation or guidance on how the menu worked. We selected the potatoes with rosemary, but were instead served salmon with potatoes. When we pointed out the mistake, we were told that this was what we had ordered, and no effort was made to correct the dish or clarify the confusion. After checking again, we realized that while “potatoes with rosemary” was listed on the main menu, it didn’t appear on the actual order card—which was only available in German—making the process even more confusing. There was also the fact that we ordered 2 x 50cl of water for the table which came in a carafe (clearly tap water) and were charged almost 12 euros for it, while in most restos, a liter or water comes in an unopened glass bottle for less than half the price. The restaurant is located a bit outside the main city center and was surprisingly empty during peak lunchtime, which in hindsight should have been a sign. Thankfully, we had tried some food at the Christmas markets beforehand; otherwise, we would have left still hungry. Overall, the experience felt disorganized and unwelcoming, and we would be unlikely to return.

A truly cool concept – especially the many small details that are reflected not only in the dish itself, but also in the overall restaurant design. A huge compliment indeed! You immediately feel welcome here, almost like you're at home. A thoroughly harmonious experience.

Super attentive, friendly, and top-notch service! I was thrilled; she remembered all the drinks for all twelve of us without writing anything down, and we all got the right drink – truly excellent! The food was also very delicious.

The table was full of Swabian tapas – delicious! It was fun trying them all. Unfortunately, we were sitting in a heated tent in November, which somewhat diminished my enjoyment (glowing cheeks, cold feet).

Went there with some Stuttgart locals to experience Swabian cuisine. Swabian tapas are a fantastic way to enjoy the local flavors. The service was very attentive and the food was delicious! Highly recommended when visiting Stuttgart. The only downside is the rather noisy atmosphere in the large dining room. Reservations are recommended.

I came here with a huge backpack, as we wanted to eat before going to the hotel. And even though they were pretty full, they still gave us a table with enough space for the stuff we brought. The food was fantastic and I loved that you could get them as tapas. The staff was so nice and lovely. And the location was rustic and nicely made. Thanks! Will be back when we have a chance!

Super friendly and highly motivated employees

IT'S A RIP-OFF! AVOID AT ALL COSTS. This "concept store" offers a multitude of small dishes to share. Sounds nice, right? Not at all. For €3.90 you get a small bowl with a quarter of a diced tomato. Passing by, we decided to get the "SHARING" menu for light meals. For €31 you get: 4 small bowls of spreads, a bread basket, and two non-alcoholic beers. I'm amazed by the quality; we're still hungry. Just so you know, if you don't get the bread basket for €4.50, you won't get anything to go with your spreads. Each spread is €3.90 (see photos). The prices are exorbitant. €21 for a sharing dish that isn't even a child's portion. And on top of that, it wasn't anything special. And the service? Nonexistent. Excuse me, I apologize for wanting to order from you... I didn't think I was bothering you so much. From what seemed to be the owner to the rest of the staff, nobody wants to work. And to top it off, they make sure you know it: deep sighs, sideways glances, and trying to pass customers around to avoid working (we were the only ones there when we arrived). Two minutes to come and greet us, even though all the employees were looking at us, is surprisingly long. The employee who finally came to greet us checked her reservation system and pointed out a group of empty tables in the distance. Seeing that we were lost, she then deigned to lead us to a table she had half-heartedly indicated beforehand. We therefore wonder about the point of making a customer wait if it's not to escort them to a table: we are perfectly capable of sitting at an empty table in an empty restaurant. However, we understand that they might have reservations; if so, please seat us! Everything was so complicated. And then there was the wait to pay even though the staff were free... And I repeat, when we arrived around 5 pm, we were the only ones there, and when we left, there were only 3 tables (8 people, including my husband and me). We have never been treated so badly. Bravo. If you were planning to leave a tip? Please forget it. Others truly deserve it. Shameful.

We were there on Saturday, November 1st, 2025, and were truly delighted. Not only by the food, but also by the service! It's rare these days to encounter such cheerful and attentive staff. You could really tell that they work with heart. We will definitely be back!

Unbelievable! Bland, tasteless dishes at exorbitant prices. How can bread not be included with a bruschetta? How can a €5 bruschetta be a measly little pot that doesn't even contain half a tomato per person? Salt and spices are nowhere to be seen, just like the alcohol in the cocktails. All this in an extremely noisy dining room. If you were paying for quality, at least, but that's not even the case... Beetroot roasts that aren't fried. Tomato sauce for a meatball that's nothing more than that, canned tomato sauce with no seasoning. At these prices, it's best avoided.

The detour after visiting Milaneo was well worth it. Great atmosphere, pleasant ambiance, and delicious Swabian tapas. We received excellent service from Juro – thank you so much for the lovely evening. Even our daughter (9 years old) was thrilled.

Excellent food. It only takes a few minutes to understand the tapas process if you're not used to it, but then everything is fantastic and delicious. The service makes the difference: we were served by two truly kind girls, ready to help and explain; but above all, we were greeted with a special grappa to welcome us and also said goodbye with a special grappa. The style when it came time to pay the bill was beautiful: the assistant sits at the table, in our case toasting with us, we chat, we pay, we share our stories. Absolutely one of my favorites now!

The food is delicious, and the staff is super friendly and attentive. The small portion concept is great, especially if you're traveling with a larger group. The Maultaschen (swabian ravioli) are particularly outstanding. Even small details, like the different plates, make the visit an experience you'll want to repeat. A minor mishap was handled brilliantly by the staff, and we were compensated far beyond our expectations. This completely turned a rather negative experience around. Kudos to the team; that's how you win loyal customers. I'll definitely be back.

A beautiful restaurant with a great concept! Super friendly staff and a delicious welcome. We visited spontaneously for the second time (unfortunately) without a reservation. Nevertheless, the gentleman at the front was able to give us an hour's dine time, which fit perfectly into our parking time! My wife and I spontaneously stumbled upon this restaurant, and I'd say it couldn't be better in Stuttgart. Swabian cuisine, tapas style. The food was varied and the flavors were perfectly balanced. 😋 There's truly something for everyone here. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Even though it was packed, the wait was short. If you go there, be sure to try the cocktails; the bartender is a master of his craft. 🍸🍹

I always bring my friends and family from home to Gasthaus Bären when they come to visit. It’s a perfect way to try the Schwäbisch cuisine. Ambiance and food is great and the service is always fast and smiling!

The food is only partially convincing, as the sauces don't seem homemade and lack depth of flavor. The service leaves much to be desired and is comparatively slow—especially during the 20- to 30-minute wait for the bill. The ambiance is quite cramped due to the tight seating in the small space, making the experience less than pleasant.

We always enjoy eating there. The food is amazing, and the portions are small, so you can try everything. Of course, it's not cheap, but it's worth every penny. The food is very good and tasty. We were there for the first time with the kids. You're always greeted with a friendly welcome, including shots (alcohol-free ones for the kids), and then given another shot as a friendly farewell. The staff are always very friendly, and you can ask anything. We enjoy going back again and again. It's worth it and we highly recommend it.

Top! There were 10 of us there, and everyone was very satisfied. Of course, the dishes don't arrive at the table at the same time, but everyone can usually figure that out beforehand. The servers were very friendly. (I would maybe deduct 0.25 stars for the noise level in the restaurant, but it didn't bother us and was unavoidable even at full capacity, and that's complaining at the highest level.)

We had reserved a table for 5 p.m. We'd been there earlier, and everything went perfectly. The staff is very friendly and, above all, very attentive. We'll definitely be back.

Last week we went to the wine village at Laube 31 for the first time with a larger group. Everything was well organized, and the staff was on point. Even a minor complaint was handled by our waiter, Lukas, with absolute professionalism and courtesy. That's not something you can take for granted these days. We'd be happy to come back.

Visit to the Laube at the Wine Village: If it were possible to give 0 stars, I would have! We were visiting the Laube, which closes at midnight. Shortly after midnight, we wanted to return our glasses (3 euros deposit per glass), along with several other guests. The information came promptly: "The cash register is already gone, you won't get your deposit back from us!" Very annoying, especially for the guests who wanted to return 10 more glasses. So be it, that's something we can accept, even if it's a disgrace to refuse to return the deposit at midnight sharp – without warning to the guests – and to "just accept" the additional income (*irony ends*). Criticism is allowed, so we went to a Laube employee and raised the issue in a normal tone, asking them to reconsider such a procedure. The employee's attitude changed within seconds. He stood in front of us, insulted us with words I won't repeat here, and pushed us out of the gazebo (!). It makes you wonder: Is this even possible???? Highly unsuitable and disrespectful for any service profession! I hope this kind of behavior will be reconsidered next year and not tolerated. Otherwise, I will refuse to attend the wine village.

We had the pleasure of experiencing the Gasthaus Bären in the Wine Village for the first time, and the three of us were very impressed. Despite the challenging location, the service was truly pleasant, from making the reservation to arriving at tables already set, to the attentiveness of the waiters. The tapas are delicious and, at times, unusual, and of high quality. The original restaurant will definitely be on our list of restaurants we want to visit in Stuttgart, even without the Wine Village! (The prices were reasonable, only the wine made the evening a bit more expensive—after all, the Wine Village.)

This business was part of the Weindorf Stuttgart event which was staged in and around the Marktplatz during late August into September. It specializes in tapas style (food to share) eating and its menu offers plenty of options to meet different tastes. Staff were super friendly and engaging and it was a delight to just relax in comfortable surroundings with our cheese platter and a drink.

Gasthaus Bären nails the balance between traditional Swabian comfort food and creative, shareable small plates. The meal started strong with their bread mix served alongside crackling lard; salty, savory, and deeply satisfying in the simplest way. Their spätzle is textbook Swabian: soft, buttery, and generously portioned. It's a dish that doesn’t need dressing up to impress, pure, carby joy. The surprise standout? The watermelon salad with feta and mint. Bright, cooling, and just the right mix of sweet, salty, and herbal, it was the perfect counterpoint to the heavier plates. And don’t overlook the homemade meatballs, whether in a creamy herb sauce, gravy, or tomato sauce, they’re tender, well-seasoned, and full of flavor without being overdone. This is the kind of place that makes you want to order one of everything, and probably still go back tomorrow.

Very disappointing service. When we asked for help choosing the best dishes, the waitress with dark hair (who could use a new lash stylist) only repeated “this is typical German” without any real advice. Immediately after leaving our table, she went straight to her colleague, looked at us in a rude way, and started gossiping. If you want to make faces and talk about your guests, at least do it in the back -not in front of people who came here to enjoy their dinner. The food itself was fine, but portions were extremely small. We understand it’s tapas, but the amount recommended as “enough for 5 people” was absolutely not sufficient. Luckily, the blonde waitress with glasses showed some professionalism and was much more helpful -thanks to her the situation was slightly improved. Overall, the first impression ruined the experience. If you expect basic courtesy and guidance when trying local food, we cannot recommend this place.

This place is amazing! The service is fantastic. The gentleman who looked after us was kind enough to choose a great selection of dishes with the help of the rest of the staff, and everyone of those dishes tasted delicious. My child is coeliac and they provided a selection of gluten free dishes. The location is lovely and atmospheric, a really nice place to relax and eat some great food. Definitely recommend a visit

We were at the wine village and had a table, enjoyed a delicious meal and drinks. When we wanted to order dessert and more drinks, the waitress wanted to take the cash first for security reasons and said we could order something else afterward. However, we were rejected by the orderer when ordering because he was expecting a group of 10, which obviously generates more revenue than two. There were a few free seats, just not in his area. We thought it was a real shame that we just had to leave. He could have just said right away, even when paying, that he needed the table. 🙈

Top-notch service! The food was also good. However, I find the prices too high. For 8.90, you can get a regular portion of käsespätzle almost anywhere. And there, they only offered a small portion. Despite the high price, I thought it was very good.

As always, our Saturday visit was top-notch from start to finish. The service was very attentive, friendly, and courteous. The food was super delicious, and I simply love the Swabian tapas concept. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to the Bären! :)

A modern restaurant with Swabian tapas served on special plates, some from renowned old porcelain manufacturers. The tapas were delicious and beautifully presented. Dedicated and friendly staff rounded out the visit. Our dog was provided with water. We'd be happy to return.

Today, as a tourist with my family, I stopped by for dinner at this restaurant. A very friendly welcome and very friendly service throughout the evening. The food was simply fantastic, delicious, as were the drinks. I was extremely satisfied! If I ever go on holiday to Stuttgart again, I'll definitely visit this fantastic restaurant again. I personally recommend everyone not to miss this while in Stuttgart...!!! Best regards

The restaurant is generally well-attended and very well-received. The small Swabian snacks are very elegantly presented, but also eaten quickly, making them more suitable for those with a light appetite.

We stumbled across this restaurant while visiting Stuttgart for the evening. The service was warm and incredibly friendly. Our waiter gave recommendations on the beer and it was really nice to receive a schnapps shot at the start and end of the meal. The tapas style dining allowed us to explore a number of authentic German dishes and share them (great for couples). The food was absolutely delicious and arrived promptly. The staff were all smiley and attentive. We had a wonderful time here and would highly recommend to anybody wanting good food, great service and an authentic experience!

Swabian tapas to share, what a great idea! Super-delicious lentils with a wonderful vinegar flavor, a super-delicious onion and red wine sauce. Whether you're having visitors outside of The Länd or you're a patriotic Swabian, this is the place to go!

First of all, the food came late. I waited for over 30 minutes. The female waitress, a white woman, inflated the bill. Especially the attitude of the waitress and the bill of 68 euros, but she charged 98 euros and asked for a tip without any apology. I don't think I will go there again.

Je mets 4 étoiles car je trouve franchement exagéré de faire payer 5,40 euros pour 1/2 litre d’eau du robinet. L’eau du robinet est même plus chère que la bière !! Franchement n’importe quoi

We visited this bar – the atmosphere was pleasant, but the service unfortunately completely ruined the overall experience. My friend ordered a cocktail that was absolutely undrinkable. She immediately told the waitress that she didn't want it and didn't want a new version. Instead, she ordered a different one. The waitress took the glass, but after a while, she brought the same cocktail back and simply put it back on the table. At the end of the evening, this cocktail was still added to the bill. When we asked to remove this item, we only received the following response: "You ordered it – so you have to pay. If you don't like it, that's not our problem." Service based on the motto: "You ordered it yourself – it's your own fault." It's disappointing when you experience only indifference instead of customer service – and then you're asked to pay for something you didn't even consume. I wouldn't recommend it. There are plenty of bars – but not everywhere is respect for guests a top priority.

We visited this bar. Initially, everything was fine, but then I ordered a sour whiskey that I didn't like at all (it was truly awful, and I made sure to let them know). They offered me a different cocktail instead. After 15 minutes, the awful cocktail was simply placed back on our table, where it remained the entire time. When it finally came time to pay, the server came over and said we had to pay anyway because no one had ever complained about it before. Thank you for a great experience.
