FRÜH "Em Veedel" in Köln

Excellent food at reasonable prices!!!

This restaurant had no windows at all, after a while you're just dying. The food was good and the service Ok, if you don't order beer they kinda look at you bad..it might be typical Kölsch but it's not appreciated. Otherwise I had great company and that made it all worthwhile.

The fried potatoes were slightly oversalted, but everything else was fine.

Time has stood still here, in a positive sense. This is the home of the southern part of the city. It's laid-back and authentically Cologne. It's still as it was then. Always happy to return.

A great Cologne-style restaurant. Delicious food, attentive staff, and a typically Cologne atmosphere. I love that the bar and restaurant are separated, creating a pleasant atmosphere for conversation. Highly recommended in the Südstadt district.

Again and again when I am in the Veedel

Always an experience in the Südstadt...that's what a brewery should be like, uniting the neighborhood at the bar.

For me, early morning in the Veedel district means regular visits to the fresh Kölsch beer and its always cheerful staff! Great team! However, it seems the kitchen has changed significantly for the worse. That needs to be corrected. The potato pancakes, tartar bites, and half a fried chicken are all top-notch, though!

Quaint pub with delicious food and friendly service! Sometimes you have to wait a bit longer, but the waiter makes up for it with a funny joke! It might be a bit more difficult with children.

Always good for Kölsch, but unfortunately the food is mixed - sometimes really good and tasty, sometimes unfortunately very small portions (especially at peak times)

Visited here for the second time in nine years. The Severinsviertel is easily accessible on foot from the Martinsviertel/train station/old town, about 1.5 km away. The lively shopping street with the admirable Severinspforte (one of four surviving city gates of Cologne's medieval city wall) is worth paying attention to first. I like the Früh im Veedel just because of its name, but especially because it comes across as so authentic and genuine. I get the feeling that Cologne's locals really come here. Some people sit on the chairs/benches and place their Kölsch in the designated recesses in the armrest. Patina everywhere, even on the worn, beautiful mosaic floor. The waitress was extremely accommodating and completely understanding that we only wanted to try one or two bars at as many locations as possible on our brewery trail.

Very unfriendly and bad-tempered

Freshly tapped Frühbier, soooo delicious, and brewery-style food. Great local customers, no frills, honest and good.

Simply top-notch. The food is amazing, the service is great, and the ambiance is quaint.

As regulars at Früh am Dom, we took a bike ride to Früh im Veedel today. Disappointing. To make room for the waiter "M" in the cramped restaurant, my husband knocked over half a glass of Kölsch, which he then had to pay for. Absolutely terrible. We only had drinks; we ate at Früh am Dom again—served by our waiters (we know several of them, all of them are great). No, they thought that was pretty bad, too. That's not right. €10 for two bottles of beer… Never, ever, go there. We've rarely felt so unwelcome as guests.

This restaurant was excellent. The food was out of this world. I had to roast pork and my wife had the goulash and could not ask for better service.

For me one of the most rustic and delicious breweries in Cologne ♥️

As always, it's an experience! The early morning beer on tap is unbeatable, the Himmel un Ääd (a beer with a twist) is delicious, and the waiter has a chat with me... A wonderful piece of Cologne❣️❣️❣️

We've been loyal customers for years. Recently, there was a billing discrepancy... Our impression is that Früh im Veedel is poorly managed. Where are the friendly waiters who used to work there?

Very good food and drinks, don't mess with the Köbes

A very historic and quaint location. The waiters are extremely friendly and make you feel comfortable with their relaxed and familiar manner. The waiters are so attentive that there was never an empty glass at our table. The dishes we ordered were prepared quickly and tasted very good. The next time we are in Cologne, we would be happy to come back.

Four of us had dinner on the evening of Easter 2025. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing in several respects. The service was poor: the staff were unfriendly and the person who served us was rude from the start. We spent 90.10 euros and paid with a 100 euro note, but we had to specifically ask for change, which we usually don't do because we are used to leaving a tip. The waiter's response? An annoyed look and no greeting upon exit, even though the place was semi-empty. Furthermore, the main course, the Schweinhaxe, arrived cold, and the icing on the cake: we noticed a mouse wandering around the lounge. Definitely an experience not to be repeated.

FRÜH “Em Veedel” is one of the oldest cafés in Cologne, located in the traditional Südstadt district. The café offers an authentic Cologne atmosphere with a rustic decor and serves hearty Rhenish dishes such as schnitzels and pork shank. Of course, the fresh FRÜH Kölsch flows freely here. Very friendly service and a cozy atmosphere, making it a popular place for both locals and tourists.

Unfortunately the food (should have been a crispy knuckle) was very bad…. Too bad about the money. The service, however, was very good.

Very characteristic Brauhaus near Chlodwigplatz. The place is traditionally furnished, friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere. The waiter (köbes) passes by with the kraz, a round tray to continuously serve the stange, 0.20 glasses of beer until you decide to stop him. The dishes offered are traditional. We ordered a cutlet with mushrooms and pork ribs with beans. To follow an excellent apple strudel. Very fair price (about 50€ for two). Must try, great experience.

Waren heute dort. Lecker Kölsch, nette Atmosphäre. Sehr netter Kellner. Sauerbraten und paniertes Kalbsschnitzel schmeckten sehr gut. Service war aufmerksam und schnell. Gerne wieder

Brewery. Complete. We had dinner with 5 friends. Beer was good. Brauhaus Good. Service good. Actually, I'm done now. 3 times knuckle. By far the worst knuckle in years. Light years away from crispy. Taste wise at the bottom end. Schnitzel. Very tired. Bratwurst comes 15 minutes later. The savoy cabbage was great. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to make a complaint. The restaurant manager didn't make it to the table. A dirty evening.

Hmm, I know ribs differently, especially juicy and not dry. We didn't finish the tartar either. We still had an enjoyable evening.

Brauhaus. Fertig. Wir waren mit 5 Freunden essen. Bier war gut. Brauhaus Gut. Service gut. Eigentlich bin ich jetzt fertig. 3 mal Haxe. Mit weitem Abstand die schlechteste Haxe seit Jahren. Von knusprig Lichtjahre entfernt. Geschmacklich am unteren Ende. Schnitzel. Ganz müde. Bratwurst kommt dann 15 Minuten später. Der Wirsing war Super. Für eine Beschwerde hat es leider nicht gereicht. Der Restaurant Leiter hat es nicht zum Tisch geschafft. Ein versauter Abend.

It was a place that I really liked, with its Kölsch beer, food and service. Everything we eat is delicious, and since the atmosphere is a historical place, we drink small beers one after another. One of the places I will visit when I come again. Also, I would like to thank Mr. Kenan very much.

A nice Veedels pub, classic with wooden tables and wooden floors. Delicious beer and good food, a good weekly menu. What I didn't like so much is the table occupancy policy. We were there at 4:30 p.m. and the pub was almost empty. We were then told that we could have a table until 6 p.m. at the most. People who came after us could stay until 7 p.m. That gives the impression: please eat and go home.

Schlechter Service trotz wenig Betrieb . Keine Pommes mehr da obwohl es Samstag Mittag war. Essen im Gegensatz zum Früh am Dom absolut nicht zu empfehlen. Nie wieder....Lieber ins Früh am Dom dort stimmt alles.

Es un gran lugar para tomar un almuerzo. Está justo al lado de la plaza principal donde está la Catedral de Colonia. Está muy ocupado, pero hay muchas mesas dentro. Comimos schnitzels de cerdo con huevos fritos. La comida era deliciosa, los servidores eran muy agradables y serviciales. Lo recomendaría a todo el mundo y sin duda volvería a visitar cuando se siente Colonia en el futuro.

It's a shame, such a really nice traditional restaurant. But unfortunately the cuisine is not that good, to put it politely.

Première brasserie visitée aprés notre arrivée à Cologne. Le serveur était sympa, Il nous a donnés quelques informations et conseils (en Anglais). L'ambiance était bonne (Je parle ici d'une ambiance de taverne : un peu bruyante et joyeuse, vous n'y trouverez pas le calme d'un restaurant. Dehors il faisait plus de 30°C, nous y avons pris des salades, elles étaient copieuses et d'un bon rapport qualité prix.

We met for our men's evening at Früh em Veedel and you can't actually believe it, but as a young man from Cologne it was my first time in this lovely little brewery and I can only say that we had a really great evening here. Everything was perfect here, nice location, great Köbes, the food was good and the Kölsch anyway. The only downside was that the restaurant closed early, we would have liked to stay a little longer. "And you usually only want that if you really feel good and that's what we felt that evening." Conclusion, we will definitely come back again.

Here you can still find the original Cologne. Price performance and service match. Keep it up.

Lackluster atmosphere compared to main brewery.

Original Cologne pub with typical regional food. Deliciously prepared and affordable prices. Kölsch comes automatically, Köbes always has a casual saying, but funny and always friendly. Visit was fun.

The service here is always top! The Kölsch fits anyway. And the ambience could hardly be more typical of a Cologne brewery bar. Unfortunately the food isn't that great anymore.

This is a local pub in south Cologne. We were obviously the only tourists in the place--we dressed up to meet a friend at their favourite restaurant. My Veedel Schnitzel was yummy, and the portion was generous. The Kolsche beer was light and a nice accompaniment to the heavier meal. By the time we were leaving, the clientele had spilled out onto the street (some patrons were socializing and using the window ledge as the table between them with others leaning in from outside too). An easy-going, friendly atmosphere.

This is the optimal original Cologne pub. The Köbes is as it should be, the Kölsch is wonderfully fresh from the Pittermännchen. The dishes are delicious. I have to go there again and again. Now I was there again. Everything is still very good. Only the Metthappens have become terrible. No longer fresh meat but an undefined mass of meat. Please change again!!!

A beautiful, rustic brewery in the heart of the southern part of the city on the Chlodi. Food is okay, nothing that would blow you away but it tastes good. Add a freshly tapped morning and all is right with the world!
