FRÜH "Em Veedel" in Köln

Fatty and sour dish, sour dessert; I've had better. 10% tip requested by the server.

We've been loyal customers for years. Recently, there was a billing discrepancy... Our impression is that Früh im Veedel is poorly managed. Where are the friendly waiters who used to work there?

Rustic brewery restaurant, very nice staff, delicious food and good Kölsch. We felt very comfortable.

Very good food and drinks, don't mess with the Köbes

A very historic and quaint location. The waiters are extremely friendly and make you feel comfortable with their relaxed and familiar manner. The waiters are so attentive that there was never an empty glass at our table. The dishes we ordered were prepared quickly and tasted very good. The next time we are in Cologne, we would be happy to come back.

Four of us had dinner on the evening of Easter 2025. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing in several respects. The service was poor: the staff were unfriendly and the person who served us was rude from the start. We spent 90.10 euros and paid with a 100 euro note, but we had to specifically ask for change, which we usually don't do because we are used to leaving a tip. The waiter's response? An annoyed look and no greeting upon exit, even though the place was semi-empty. Furthermore, the main course, the Schweinhaxe, arrived cold, and the icing on the cake: we noticed a mouse wandering around the lounge. Definitely an experience not to be repeated.

FRÜH “Em Veedel” is one of the oldest cafés in Cologne, located in the traditional Südstadt district. The café offers an authentic Cologne atmosphere with a rustic decor and serves hearty Rhenish dishes such as schnitzels and pork shank. Of course, the fresh FRÜH Kölsch flows freely here. Very friendly service and a cozy atmosphere, making it a popular place for both locals and tourists.

Unfortunately the food (should have been a crispy knuckle) was very bad…. Too bad about the money. The service, however, was very good.

Quaint, traditional, whatever. Warm, cozy Kölsch hospitality, delicious Kölsch, delicious food, great service and otherwise nice people. Gladly again, recommended! 👍🏼

Wonderful place for German food, don't miss the stinzels and the pork knee

Very characteristic Brauhaus near Chlodwigplatz. The place is traditionally furnished, friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere. The waiter (köbes) passes by with the kraz, a round tray to continuously serve the stange, 0.20 glasses of beer until you decide to stop him. The dishes offered are traditional. We ordered a cutlet with mushrooms and pork ribs with beans. To follow an excellent apple strudel. Very fair price (about 50€ for two). Must try, great experience.

Brewery. Complete. We had dinner with 5 friends. Beer was good. Brauhaus Good. Service good. Actually, I'm done now. 3 times knuckle. By far the worst knuckle in years. Light years away from crispy. Taste wise at the bottom end. Schnitzel. Very tired. Bratwurst comes 15 minutes later. The savoy cabbage was great. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to make a complaint. The restaurant manager didn't make it to the table. A dirty evening.

Brauhaus. Fertig. Wir waren mit 5 Freunden essen. Bier war gut. Brauhaus Gut. Service gut. Eigentlich bin ich jetzt fertig. 3 mal Haxe. Mit weitem Abstand die schlechteste Haxe seit Jahren. Von knusprig Lichtjahre entfernt. Geschmacklich am unteren Ende. Schnitzel. Ganz müde. Bratwurst kommt dann 15 Minuten später. Der Wirsing war Super. Für eine Beschwerde hat es leider nicht gereicht. Der Restaurant Leiter hat es nicht zum Tisch geschafft. Ein versauter Abend.

Hmm, I know ribs differently, especially juicy and not dry. We didn't finish the tartar either. We still had an enjoyable evening.

It was a place that I really liked, with its Kölsch beer, food and service. Everything we eat is delicious, and since the atmosphere is a historical place, we drink small beers one after another. One of the places I will visit when I come again. Also, I would like to thank Mr. Kenan very much.

A nice Veedels pub, classic with wooden tables and wooden floors. Delicious beer and good food, a good weekly menu. What I didn't like so much is the table occupancy policy. We were there at 4:30 p.m. and the pub was almost empty. We were then told that we could have a table until 6 p.m. at the most. People who came after us could stay until 7 p.m. That gives the impression: please eat and go home.

Schlechter Service trotz wenig Betrieb . Keine Pommes mehr da obwohl es Samstag Mittag war. Essen im Gegensatz zum Früh am Dom absolut nicht zu empfehlen. Nie wieder....Lieber ins Früh am Dom dort stimmt alles.

Es un gran lugar para tomar un almuerzo. Está justo al lado de la plaza principal donde está la Catedral de Colonia. Está muy ocupado, pero hay muchas mesas dentro. Comimos schnitzels de cerdo con huevos fritos. La comida era deliciosa, los servidores eran muy agradables y serviciales. Lo recomendaría a todo el mundo y sin duda volvería a visitar cuando se siente Colonia en el futuro.

It's a shame, such a really nice traditional restaurant. But unfortunately the cuisine is not that good, to put it politely.

Première brasserie visitée aprés notre arrivée à Cologne. Le serveur était sympa, Il nous a donnés quelques informations et conseils (en Anglais). L'ambiance était bonne (Je parle ici d'une ambiance de taverne : un peu bruyante et joyeuse, vous n'y trouverez pas le calme d'un restaurant. Dehors il faisait plus de 30°C, nous y avons pris des salades, elles étaient copieuses et d'un bon rapport qualité prix.

We met for our men's evening at Früh em Veedel and you can't actually believe it, but as a young man from Cologne it was my first time in this lovely little brewery and I can only say that we had a really great evening here. Everything was perfect here, nice location, great Köbes, the food was good and the Kölsch anyway. The only downside was that the restaurant closed early, we would have liked to stay a little longer. "And you usually only want that if you really feel good and that's what we felt that evening." Conclusion, we will definitely come back again.

Here you can still find the original Cologne. Price performance and service match. Keep it up.

Lackluster atmosphere compared to main brewery.

Original Cologne pub with typical regional food. Deliciously prepared and affordable prices. Kölsch comes automatically, Köbes always has a casual saying, but funny and always friendly. Visit was fun.

The service here is always top! The Kölsch fits anyway. And the ambience could hardly be more typical of a Cologne brewery bar. Unfortunately the food isn't that great anymore.

This is a local pub in south Cologne. We were obviously the only tourists in the place--we dressed up to meet a friend at their favourite restaurant. My Veedel Schnitzel was yummy, and the portion was generous. The Kolsche beer was light and a nice accompaniment to the heavier meal. By the time we were leaving, the clientele had spilled out onto the street (some patrons were socializing and using the window ledge as the table between them with others leaning in from outside too). An easy-going, friendly atmosphere.

This is the optimal original Cologne pub. The Köbes is as it should be, the Kölsch is wonderfully fresh from the Pittermännchen. The dishes are delicious. I have to go there again and again. Now I was there again. Everything is still very good. Only the Metthappens have become terrible. No longer fresh meat but an undefined mass of meat. Please change again!!!

Food served cold but promptly. Unfortunately 1/2 of the food was served differently than ordered and then I was annoyed. Kölsch went well.

A beautiful, rustic brewery in the heart of the southern part of the city on the Chlodi. Food is okay, nothing that would blow you away but it tastes good. Add a freshly tapped morning and all is right with the world!

Solid food and quick, friendly service

We had a very nice dinner in this place. We ate pork knuckle and it was perfectly cooked. The service was fast and the waiter was friendly. My complain about the service is that the place is huge and it is like a maze. We couldn't find any one to give us a table for a while and we had to actually go and find a person ourselves.

Quaint location at Chlodwigplatz. Very nice and attentive service. The food is typical brewery - hearty, tasty and something for everyone. Tip for "non-Cologne residents": The Kölsch is always "refilled" by the waitress, the "Köbes". As soon as you are seated, it is served. If you don't want any more, simply place the beer mat on the Kölsch glass.

Fantastic location especially during carnival! Great atmosphere, friendly guests and great service. You have to have been there!

Small, fine brewery. As it should be, the service is moving at a decent drinking pace. But you had to remember to drink non-alcoholic drinks every now and then. I didn't eat anything myself, but my companions were all very satisfied and it looked very tasty too. However, the furnishings and walls did not look very well maintained and run down.

Whether you sit down at the table to eat or ceremoniously drink 37 Kölsch at the bar - both can be done wonderfully here and are highly recommended. Service is always friendly and on point. So off to Veedel in the morning.

Honest brewery with real history

A typical Cologne brewery with all the trimmings. Friendly waiters who always make sure that you are taken care of, traditional brewery food that tastes delicious and of course the most delicious and fresh Kölsch. We come here very often and have only had good experiences so far. Very clear recommendation.

Wir waren mit einer Gruppe Kollegen dort. Schönes veedel Brauhaus, Top Service, Kölsch kam immer genau in der richtigen Geschwindigkeit (sehr gut getroffen, wann man ein neues möchte und wann nicht, ohne dass jemand fragen müsste oder man sich genötigt fühlt!!). Köbes wie man ihn sich wünscht, herzlich ohne aufgesetzt zu wirken! Essen solide (Schulnote 2)bis okey, Kölsch 2,00€ ist schon n stolzer Preis, aber wahrscheinlich muss man sich dran gewöhnen . Ich/ wir kommen wieder.

My twin brother and I were pub hopping around this part of the city when we decided to drop into Fruh Em Veedel and what a great time we had. A great looking pub,a classic Cologne pub ,walking in and I knew I would enjoy my visit here, interior is superb, a cool looking serving bar dominates the main room, dark wood features abound throughout this pub, great decor and furnishings and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, its just a really good pub to unwind in. We stood near the serving bar were two kölsch beers were deposited in front of us, these were served in excellent condition being iced cold and sparkling, we chilled out and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular pub. My kölsch beer was superb, light and hoppy,bursting with taste and very easy to drink especially when served freezing cold as in this pub, hardly surprising that this pub is so popular with beers served in this good a condition. We both really enjoyed our beers in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to here we had a great time. Fruh Am Vedeel is easy to locate on Chlodwigplatz. Opening hours are; Monday to Thursday, 4pm till midnight. Friday & Saturday, 11am till 1am. Sunday, closed. Well worth checking out if you're in the area.

Quiet version of Früh am Dom, but when we were there it was still full. Made reservations for the next day and had a great meal. Beer glass of Kölsch empty and a new one is placed. Friendly staff, enjoyed it

FRÜH"Em Veedel"in Chlodwigplatz is a fine old pub that offer's a superb range of food and drink's and this pub was without doubt one of the best we visited around this area of Cologne. Housed in an historic 19th century building that look's brilliant'the inside of this classic Cologne pub is amazing with many original fixtures and features throughout the whole pubs two roomed interior. With superb seating options throughout it's whole interior and excellent staff who were friendly and efficient'it's a pub that me and my twin brother really enjoyed as we adore historic old pubs with character. When we visited here we had a few glasses of Früh Kölsch which were superb and very well priced considering the historic pub we were in.Well worth a visit and easy to get to from Chlodwigplatz tram/u-bahn stop it's a short walk. Das Essen ist sehr lecker die Auswahl gut bürgerlich und die Preise sind nicht teuer. Das Personal sehr nett und sehr flink ! Es lohnt sich dort einmal vorbei zu schauen!

Wow, this place was buzzing and busy from the moment we opened the door! Although they didn't have our table booking, that didn't matter, we waited 30mins at the bar. For me this was a real German pub (my first visit to Germany) and the food reflected this. A customer helped with some menu translation but we all had a "giant" ham hock, mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. Rounds of drink were marked on beer mat with our table number...great idea! Waiting staff and customers were funny and friendly. A definite recommendation, a great night.
