Unfortunately, no fine dining yet! The concept is talked about but not lived. Sometimes it's not consistently implemented in the product selection. There's a lack of calm, proximity, and balance on all levels. Professional gastronomy works differently. Sustainability also affects human interaction; processing and high prices without delivering is a no-no. Green capitalism, gastronomy edition in a nutshell. Reflect on this, please; there is potential. Ambience: beige and trendy, there's a lack of peace, lamps are glaring, acoustics and music are too loud, which restricts communication. People with hearing impairments, such as older people or non-native speakers, in particular, have difficulty. Servers handle iPads at the entrance, with their backs to the guests, creating an office-like, open-plan workspace (ouch). The open kitchen also creates a sense of unease. The layout and layout are cramped. Food: The concept isn't evident, the menu lacks a story or a common thread, a wild mix of challenging and sometimes difficult flavors, overstimulated taste buds, lots of salt/acid/spiciness, and bitterness without balance, aka without deliberate disharmony. It demonstrates that playing with complex compositions is an art that unfortunately isn't (yet) sufficiently mastered here. Service: There's a lot missing, more to do with the concept than with the people working there. Everyone tries hard. Unfortunately, there's still a lack of professionalism (for some), and therefore a lack of calm guidance/guidance throughout the evening. The time limit leads to stress and hecticness. The dishes are cleared with clattering and tipping, a disaster. Many servers per table. Not a single face. Confusion from front to back. Overwhelm on both sides. Unfortunately, also irritability. Suggestions for improvement <3 Ambience: Concentrated lighting, create a calm atmosphere, make the music more subtle and flowing. Coordination and technology behind the counter. Perhaps separate the kitchen more or shield certain areas (peace and quiet!). Food: Check the concept for balance, gently play around with more difficult flavors (like the licorice that only comes through slightly in the pairing with the panna cotta dessert). Salt/spiciness and acidity don't balance each other out, but rather intensify each other; observe the pairing rules! Fat can help here, as can more broken notes. Well-tempered tea brings softness and calm. Juice and plenty of citrus (overstimulating). Gentle between courses. Variety, i.e., two almost identical non-alcoholic pairings with grapefruit, don't work. Otherwise, everything will eventually taste too similar and too much. Sensitive stomachs, be aware of intolerances. Raw onion is a no-no if the balance isn't right; pickled yes; raw leeks no (bitter-soapy-spicy -> leaves a fuzzy feeling on the tongue). Lighter flavors would then come through more easily than too many strong ones that simply overwhelm and miss their purpose. Dessert + pairing was good. Subtle is the key word here. Rosemary, anise, licorice, and vanilla were the winners of the evening, but unfortunately, they weren't regional at all and were quickly forgotten with the acidity/spiciness/salt. It has to flow like music; you have to be able to immerse yourself. The world is stressful enough as it is; give us peace and quiet. Tell us stories and fairy tales. Service: If possible, have table-based service. Lead the evening. Be well-prepared, even for people with special needs. Calm and serenity only come with confidence and leadership from the employer. Philosophy is important, as is team ethos and communication. Consider social psychology. Different dynamics and factors are important for older people, families, or couples. When clearing up, it's better to ask the guest for cooperation than to get too close, interrupt conversations, create a rush, and clink glasses. Consider where the stress is coming from (concept, communication, knowledge, kitchen, colleagues, employer?). Kitchen mediation is useful. Take a joint, paid field trip to the producer, delve into the dishes, and demand respect, calm, and balance on all levels. You have potential. <3

Edit: visited again last night (a Wednesday in July 2024) and it was highly disappointing. We ordered at 18:30 and didn’t get our first dish until 19:10 (40 min wait!) We were starving. Expect to wait 30 min at least between dishes, even for the dessert. The food yesterday was extremely salty (my wife usually adds salt to everything but couldn’t finish her dishes) and we heard other people complain about the same thing. We got money back for one dish per person but honestly it didn’t help with the experience and I can’t imagine we’ll come back. Which is sad, cause Berlin needs high end vegan places. We were at frea 5 times: three times our experience was chaotic, not tasty and the staff was pretty rude. Once was good and one was excellent (my review below). The drinks still are the best thing about the place. The place is too pricey to not have a predictable experience. (280 euros + tip for three people). —— Previous comment: Had the most wonderful birthday dinner there. It was the best meal I’ve had in a long time. I still dream about the drinks I had there… It was all creative and delicious. The place is gorgeous and the service was lovely.

Unfortunately they are proving that their SUSTAINABILITY CONCEPT is nothing more but a MARKETING HOAX. They started with a proper, no waste, no animal products philosophy ... just to kick sustainability in the trash by secretly sneaking animal products onto their/their bakery's menu. Quite sad since they don't seem to need it (places are always packed) and it seems to be a decision solely to maximize profits :/

Great welcome and from then on love and attentive care! At a really cozy table in the corner we had 7 courses, all of which were very varied and impressed with their balance and the minimal number of experiences on the tongue. The non-alcoholic drink accompaniment was great but also a little monotonous in the middle. Too much fruit juice based. The only reason for the four stars is the food. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

Wir haben zu viert den runden Geburtstag der Tochter gefeiert und sie hatte diese vegane Restaurant gebucht. Der Start war etwas holprig, da wir erst um Punkt 17.30 Uhr rein durften. Danach war der Service sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. Allergien wurden geklärt. Das vegane Menü war wirklich ein Erlebnis. Mir hat alles sehr gut geschmeckt; meiner Frau zwar nicht, aber sie fand es trotzdem interessant. Die empfohlenen zwei Weine waren vorzüglich. Das Restaurant war ausgebucht und um 20.30 Uhr gab es dann noch viel Andrang von den nächsten Gästen.

Wir sind der Empfehlung unserer Tochter gefolgt und wurden nicht enttäuscht. Sehr freundlicher Service, unaufdringlich und kompetent. Ein vegetarischer Abend auf Sterne-Level! Alles sehr leger, aber im angenehmen, gehobenen Ambiente. Das Lokal war gut besucht; Reservierung empfehlenswert. Die Speisen überzeugen durch frische Zubereitung und köstliche Aromen, die kontrastreich, aber dezent die Geschmacksempfindungen stimulieren. Keine "Mini-Portionen", aber auch keine Opulenz - genau richtig dosiert. Unbedingt beim nächsten Berlin-Besuch einplanen!

A restaurant that you should definitely visit if you are sustainably minded and interested in a vegan diet. The welcome is very warm and open. You choose from three menus, but nothing is forced on you. The dishes were a blast from start to finish, some were real flavor explosions and the plates were very appetizing and creatively arranged. The relatively high prices are only justified given this quality. You can also view these in advance on the website. We visited on a Saturday evening at 6.30pm and recommend making a reservation.

Price quality is iffy. The food is okay, somewhat one dimensional for the price. Especially the beetroot was bitter, didn't finish it. The wine pairing was uninspired but all except the orange wine were tasty. They have a lovely wine list so if you're with a group I'd suggest to get a couple bottles instead. Service is nice though, very warm and enthusiastic, which lifts up any evening.

Mediocre at best and bad tasting at worst. Given the high price and fine dining image I would expect soo much more but this was a downright disappointment. Some food we didn't even eat up as it was so bad (e.g the ice cream and weird beetroot ice shavings). Berlin has an amazing vegan scene otherwise, you can do better than this.

To be honest, I expected more. Some of the recipes were quite one-dimensional such as the beetroot which was overwhelmingly bitter. It turned out that the most interesting dish was the butter served as an appetizer. It is laudable that this is a vegan restaurant however it also tries to construct dishes in a quite classical meat-centric way where in many dishes meat is simply replaced by a vegan alternative. Inferior substitutes is not the best that vegan cuisine has to offer. Regarding the atmosphere, we were simply quite unlucky to be sat to two large company dinners and a room with a strongly resonant room. I would still recommend the restaurant.

Der Abend begann damit, dass wir ein Zeitfenster von maximal 120 Minuten bekamen. Gastfreundlichkeit fühlt sich anders an. Auch beim Service merkte man, dass es hauptsächlich darum ging, einem von dem Second Service fertig zu haben. Teilweise war der Service etwas unbeholfen bis hin zu schroff. Das Essen würde ich in Relation zum Preisniveau als durchschnittlich bezeichnen. Da geht noch mehr.

Frea – Zero Waste, Full Taste, let’s go! A truly extraordinary experience! As soon as you entered the restaurant you immediately felt the warm hospitality of David and Juri. They took our jackets and enthusiastically explained the map to us. We sat at a bar table overlooking the kitchen, where real art was being accomplished. It was fascinating to see how concentrated the chefs were and the precision with which they paid attention to every detail. The flavors were simply unforgettable - the ceviche reminded me of my time in Panama, only here in a vegan version of course. The tartness of the dish paired perfectly with the sweet sweet potato chips. I love ceviche, I definitely didn't miss the fish taste ;) The arancini, which reminded me of Italy, were also an absolute highlight. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very cozy and inviting. The service is first class and truly attentive - every detail is considered and you can tell that the team really wants to offer guests a special experience. The people sitting next to us from Switzerland felt the same way; we exchanged ideas after every course and were equally enthusiastic. I can also particularly recommend the wine accompaniment – it goes perfectly with the dishes. Take your time, enjoy the food - this is about the full taste experience of a trip through Panama and Sicily. Bella Italia 😌 The cuisine is simply outstanding, the portions were perfect, I was full afterwards - I really ate everything, zero waste. Everything very fresh and regional. The dessert was really the highlight – a little 🤯 for the senses! Simply perfect evening, as soon as the menu changes we'll be back. I eat out almost every weekend and have tried a few places. Das Ambiente war sehr schön, jedoch war im Vorfeld nicht ersichtlich, dass es nur ein Menü zu bestellen gibt. Die Bedienung wirkte daraufhin etwas beleidigt, als wir die Gerichte einzeln bestellen wollten. Schlussendlich haben wir das Menü dann gewählt und ich bat, hinsichtlich des Nachhaltigkeitskonzepts, dass mein Dessert nicht serviert wird und ich stattdessen einen Espresso bekommen wolle. Dann wurden jedoch beide Desserts serviert und der Espresso zusätzlich berechnet. Was ein weiterer Minuspunkt war, ist, dass einige Kellner*innen sehr erkältet waren und uneingeschränkt gehustet haben, obwohl wir unmittelbar vor ihnen an der Theke saßen. Fazit: Essen sehr gut, jedoch Restaurant sehr unflexibel und das Verständnis fehlte, dass man, obwohl man gehoben essen gehen möchte, nicht immer gleich Menü bestellen möchte..

Frea – Zero Waste, Full Taste, let’s go! Ein wirklich außergewöhnliches Erlebnis! Schon beim Betreten des Restaurants spürte man sofort die herzliche Gastfreundschaft von David und Juri. Sie nahmen uns die Jacken ab und erklärten uns mit Begeisterung die Karte. Wir saßen an einem Stehtisch mit Blick auf die Küche, wo wirklich wahre Kunst vollbracht wurde. Es war faszinierend zu sehen, wie konzentriert die Köche arbeiteten und mit welcher Präzision sie jedes Detail beachteten. Die Aromen waren einfach unvergesslich – das Ceviche erinnerte mich an meine Zeit in Panama, nur hier natürlich in einer veganen Variante. Die Säure des Gerichts harmonierte perfekt mit den süßen Süßkartoffelchips. Ich liebe Ceviche, ich habe den Fischgeschmack definitiv nicht vermisst ;) Auch die Arancini, die mich an Italien erinnerten, waren ein absolutes Highlight. Die Atmosphäre im Restaurant ist sehr gemütlich und einladend. Der Service ist erstklassig und wirklich aufmerksam– hier wird jedes Detail mitbedacht, und man merkt, dass das Team den Gästen wirklich eine besondere Erfahrung bieten möchte. Unseren Sitznachbarn aus der Schweiz ging es genauso, wir haben uns nach jedem Gang ausgetauscht und waren gleichermaßen begeistert. Besonders empfehlen kann ich auch die Weinbegleitung – sie passt hervorragend zu den Gerichten. Nimm dir Zeit, genieße das Essen - hier geht es um das volle Geschmackserlebnis eine Reise durch Panama und Sizilien. Besonders die herzhaften Speisen waren hervorragend. Da wir aber generell nicht so die Nachspeisefans sind waren die süßen Gerichte im Vergleich zu den herzhaften nicht ganz so unser Fall. This is a place where you could (almost) forget about eating meat. A great shop with one of the best and most refined cuisines I have eaten in a long time: a four course meal where each course was more delicious, more refined than the last!! Definitely a recommendation. What should also be highlighted are the great, friendly service staff who were happy to explain the dishes and were very attentive!! We had a very nice evening there!

Sehr leckeres veganes Menü, lohnt sich. Mir hat jedoch als nicht Veganer ein bisschen was gefehlt. Kellner waren alle sehr nett und aufmerksam. Man muss definitiv reservieren, es wurde irgendwann sehr voll und dadurch sehr voll. Wir können es trotzdem empfehlen, denn das Essen und alles andere war sehr gut.

I was there yesterday with my husband and we really enjoyed it! Relaxed atmosphere, nice staff, delicious food. We also liked the zero waste idea and the fact that all the fruit and vegetables apparently come from Brandenburg. Given this background, we couldn't quite understand why there were herbs from Edeka packaged in plastic behind the counter. We would think it would be nicer if, instead of using waste products, certain products would simply be dispensed with in emergencies.

Unfortunately we were disappointed with the visit. We've heard so many good things about FREA that we can't understand in retrospect. The service was very unfriendly and unprofessional. A second visit wouldn't be worth it for that reason alone. But the food didn't convince us either, it was very monotonous and uninspired. The atmosphere is fine, the area itself has a lot to offer. Even for a quarter of the price it wouldn't have been worth it for us. Maybe we had a bad day? Who knows. There are so many great vegan restaurants in Berlin and unfortunately this is not one of them.

Great restaurant with a very interesting and sustainable concept. The service switched back and forth between 3 languages, but it didn't bother us :) The food was “good”. This word describes it best. It was the winter menu, but some dishes could have remained in the fall. The taste didn't blow your mind, although it was definitely tasty. Although this comment is “complaining at a high level”, the standard here is also at a high level, which is why I think it is appropriate. That certain extra was still missing. The desserts were even more convincing! After this persimmon sorbet, I think I will never be able to eat regular persimmons again because it was so delicious.

Wegen meines Geburtstages konnten wir den Tisch den ganzen Abend behalten. Eine nette Geste. Alles war aufmerksam und nicht aufdringlich. Das Essen war nicht nur ein Augenschmaus. Der Geschmack war vorzüglich. Der Preis für das Essen durchaus angemessen. Einen Punkt Abzug gibt es für die Getränkebegleitung. Die erschien uns etwas zu hoch. Wir können das Lokal nur empfehlen.

The restaurant initially impresses with its appealing and inviting ambience, which creates a pleasant atmosphere and makes the evening feel special. Service is friendly, attentive and demonstrates a solid knowledge of the food and drinks on offer, as can be expected in this price range. There seems to be a clear main contact person, but the operation is supplemented by changing service staff. Although this practice seems stylistically intentional, it brings a noticeable sense of unrest into the course of the evening. The question about intolerances was missing. We had to hang up our jackets ourselves and get them from the cloakroom, which is also not appropriate for a restaurant of this class (the restaurant manager was more attentive to other guests). Crockery and glasses are very tastefully selected and underline the stylish ambience. The wine selection deserves special praise: The wine list is excellently curated, offers an exceptional selection and the wine pairing harmonizes perfectly with the dishes on offer. The non-alcoholic accompaniment options (various juices; no other options such as tea infusions, kombucha, etc.), however, were less convincing and sometimes too sour and/or too sweet and not balanced in terms of taste. Unfortunately, the food itself couldn't keep up with the high quality of the wines. It lacked the sophistication, freshness, and taste surprises that one would expect in a restaurant of this class. The portion size was reasonable and filling. However, the overall appearance of the kitchen depresses the mood considerably, especially in relation to the price. Compared to similarly designed restaurants, such as the Arc in Hamburg or the Bistro Lupa or Ark in Copenhagen, there is simply no convincing price-performance ratio here. These houses manage to better balance quality, creativity and price. In summary, a pleasant evening in a nice atmosphere with motivated service and very good wines - but the disappointment with the kitchen and the disproportionate bill of €140 per person (4G and mixed drinks accompaniment, 1 bottle of water) leaves a bitter aftertaste.

Im FREA haben wir das 5-Gang-Menü mit Weinbegleitung gegessen. 3 der 5 Gänge fanden wir richtig toll, kreativ, spannend komponiert und mit tollen Texturen, z.B. seh knackige Möhren mit schwarzer Walnuss unter einem Meerettichschaum. 2 Gänge sind aus meiner Sicht stark abgefallen und waren teilweise handwerklich schlecht, z.B. eine Jus, die einfach nur bitter war und dem Gericht eher geschadet als genutzt hat. Die Weinbegleitung hat für meinen Geschmack zwischen durchschnittlichen Weinen und einem geschmacklichen Ausfall variiert (tolle blumige und fruchtige Nase, Geschmack nach etwas moderigen Fehlgärungen). Hier würde ich beim nächsten Mal eher das Wasser oder ein Bier wählen. Für 2 Personen mit Weinbegleitung haben wir das FREA mit ca. €300,- verlassen. Für diesen Preis war die Qualität aus meiner Sicht enttäuschend, und wir nutzen in Zukunft lieber andere Lokale.

Unser Besuch im Restaurant Frea war der perfekte Abschluss unseres Team-Events. Von Anfang bis Ende waren wir alle begeistert von der Vielfalt und Originalität des hochwertigen veganen Essens. Das Menü ist ein wahres Meisterwerk der veganen Küche und überraschte uns mit neuen Geschmackserlebnissen und kreativen Kombinationen. Man merkt sofort, dass im Frea viel Wert auf Qualität gelegt wird. Auch das Restaurantkonzept beeindruckte uns sehr, da Nachhaltigkeit von der Einrichtung über die Zutaten bis hin zur Müllvermeidung großgeschrieben wird. Der Service war ein weiterer Höhepunkt unseres Besuchs – aufmerksam, freundlich und hat uns jeden Wunsch von den Augen abgelesen. Dieses Restaurant ist definitiv ein Muss für alle, die hochwertige, kreative und nachhaltige vegane Küche in einem tollen Ambiente genießen möchten. Wir kommen wieder!

Delicious food served with a smile. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The various dishes are very creative and well put together. I personally loved the alcohol free pairing as well. The restaurant is well decorated and the location is perfect. This has to be one of the best vegan restaurants out there. For me, that is where I missed something during my visit. I found most dishes sort of rivalling the traditional meat/fish dishes. Personally I was hoping, prior to my visit, for a bit more out of the box dishes with a wow effect. Vegan is not meat so why try to create similar experiences?

There were too many repetitions in the 4 course menu for my taste buds. I would have liked more inspiration for the umami flavor, which would have made it more varied. There's still a lot of room for improvement for my taste. As one reviewer already wrote here, the price-performance ratio for the (vegetable) dishes is not entirely conclusive either. Just the argument of justifying it by paying “good” chefs is a bit flawed because it’s about the products. I would also have liked a bit more attractive cutlery. The knife with the wooden handle had seen better days. A bit loveless for the price. The overall concept should be coherent. The service was very good and quick, which is what we expected with the two hours. Length of stay for two people per table (according to website) At first we felt a bit rushed (not by the service), but we were allowed to stay seated. Nice evening, but I don't have to experience it again now.

Excellent food and very good service. The taste, texture, and presentation of the food was excellent. Overall, it wasn't very much, but the taste / textures made up for it. It is there for you to enjoy and we did. Choices in dishes are a little limited, but it is a smallish restaurant and it probably isn't economic for them to maintain a larger choice of dishes. It was overall an excellent experience and we will be back for sure.

I'm not even vegetarian, let alone vegan, but the meal I had at Frea was spectacularly good. I opted for the 4-course set menu; also available were 3-course (with an element of choice), 5-course, and a la carte. Each of those four courses exploded with flavours and textures. I broadened my horizons further by choosing the non-alcoholic drinks pairing as opposed to the wine pairing, and it did not disappoint. A great deal of care, thought and hard work clearly went into the food and drink. Service was good, and the ambience worked. An excellent package all round.

I basically never give reviews, but this was exceptional. The food was explosive with flavour. Zero waste. Nice atmosphere. Great service. I was here on my own, and Saira made me feel incredibly welcome the whole time. Amazing attention to detail. Literally my only critique would be you can’t get tap water, which I get because it’s a fancy restaurant, but I don’t like the waste of a bottle when tap water is perfectly fine. But this is so minor. Overall I absolutely loved it.
