Fischimbiss Schabi in Hamburg

It's definitely not fancy, but it's very tasty. The shrimp aren't as good as my mom's, but they're pretty close. Rustic, without pretensions, but delicious food in a snack-style setting. Down-to-earth, but the prices aren't 😅 Overall, a recommendation.

In the heart of the St. Pauli neighborhood. Fresh fish prepared to order. And unbeatable value for money. And in a very cool, alternative setting.

The food was fine, but absolutely not worth the money. Some dishes were more expensive than in regular restaurants.

Unfortunately, it was very disappointing. For the second time, the salad wasn't washed properly – this time, it even had insects in it. The portions are getting smaller and smaller, and the prawn pan is now completely overpriced. I expected significantly better quality for the money. It's a shame, but I won't be coming back.

After placing my order, I was asked to take a seat outside. After 45 minutes, I was asked if I wanted to order something. That was my last visit.

My husband said, "We absolutely have to go there," so we went... A young man went out, came in, grinned at me really friendly, and took my order... When I finally got it, the chef added, "Made with lots of love."... yup, that was something!!! TIP TOP for our taste

We were here in the afternoon. We had fish in flatbread. Truly delicious. The service was very nice and friendly. The tables are wiped after each guest. We'll definitely be back.

It's ok. Nothing mind blowing. Don't expect to much of the calamari even when they claim they have good deep frozen products it's still not worth it. You'll get a lot of "fries" fried potatoe slices with your dish.

Usually busy; the food is as you see when walking past, and looking at the photos here over 8 years, consistently good. No surprises. We had the mixed grill, and squid, both of which were excellent. The salmon others ordered looked fantastic, as did the shrimp and salmon (mixed request) in the cream sauce. We paid €45 for our plates, and 2 beers.

The salad was very old and irregular, cleanliness and hygiene were zero, it was no different from Indian street food.

If you're in the mood for fish in the Schanze, Schabi is a must! Delicious grilled squid.

I'm in Hamburg every now and then, and every time I go to Schabi, where I get a fish sandwich. It's always delicious. I highly recommend it.

The place is unassuming, but the food is super delicious 😋. I ordered a mixed plate for €23 with various types of fish, potato chips, and remolade. I was full.

First, I waited 40 minutes for my food. They forgot what I ordered, and then the wrong dish arrived. I had to leave hungry, and now I have to get something to eat somewhere else. Thanks for nothing!

The food is very tasty. The tables are rather cramped.

In my opinion, it's highly overrated. The place barely has any seating inside, and the restroom is located directly behind the seating area. While I was eating, unpleasant odors from the toilet wafted right up to me. I actually wanted to sit outside on the benches, but that wasn't an option due to the heavy rain. The portions are also very small. The "mixed plate" was sold as a large portion, but it barely filled me up. Unfortunately, the value for money here isn't good at all.

The food is truly delicious. Great service, and the staff are always very friendly. Eating in the Schanze restaurant, right on the street, isn't exactly inviting. Especially since there aren't enough seats. Often, there aren't any available seats at all. One suggestion for improvement: The portions always come with an unusually small amount of remoulade dip. Please don't skimp on the dip. Just look at the tiny blob of tartar sauce in the pictures of other reviews. You'd already inhale that little bit after eating six of those chips, and then there's nothing left for the fish...

12/10. I don't even live in Hamburg, but whenever I'm there, it's my first stop. Waiting is no problem; I can take a walk and then go back. Simply authentic, and I feel like I'm on vacation there.

A dining experience ;-) The food was soooo delicious, the staff super friendly! That's about it. Pure mass processing, and if you think you're going to eat there in peace... you're way off the mark. You've barely finished your plates before they clear them and wipe the table clean, because the next guests are already standing behind you, waiting for a seat. The place only has three small tables inside on a mezzanine level; otherwise, the good money is made outdoors.

Delicious fish for a reasonable price. I've eaten here a few times, almost every time I've visited Hamburg, and it has never disappointed. Don't expect the comfort of a restaurant but if you go for the food, I recommend it 100%.

They only accept cash... If you don't have cash, they will ask you to go across the street and get cash. There is a fee of about 6 euros. Please prepare in advance.

Anyone nearby who likes fish should definitely visit Schab. Okay, fish hasn't been cheap for a long time, and it probably won't be anymore. But the prices, quality, and quantity are still right here. The fish is freshly fried, not freshly cooked. The seating is just seating, not three-star armchairs. But everything fits together, and you get value for money. Even when it rains, there's now an awning so you can sit outside in the dry. Why is that important? You can only sit outside.

Visually a little bit of getting used to but always fresh and super tasty, especially the scampi pan highly recommended

I live on the coast of Mexico and came to try their cream-smothered shrimp and potatoes!!! Wow, it was delicious! Plus the bread and salad! 👌🏽👌🏽 I'll be a regular customer!

Update: We were at Schabi once again but this time there was a bit of a taste problem, I told them that everything we ate, salad, potatoes especially fish, all came to us without salt and therefore tasteless. They were cooked very well, the cooking was great again but they need to check the taste. We had a mixed fish plate and fish&chips by the way. Maybe salt can be added to the fish in the mixed plate later but fish&chips are very bland without salt. I hope our food will be more delicious on our next visit. First visit: The cuttlefish was a legendary taste. Its taste is still on my palate. The taste of fish&chips was average. It would be good if it was seasoned a little more. The place is small but very enjoyable. You have to wait a little in line to find an empty table inside in winter. There are no tables inside though. It is like having a family meal with everyone... That's why I took photos of the plates of the customers next door. Everyone was very happy. :) The staff is also very polite and the service is very fast..…

I traveled all the way to Hamburg for the famous fish... we can get better fish in southern Lower Saxony! The plaice was dripping with fat, way too salty, and undercooked. The fish at the fish and chips place was unfortunately undercooked, and you could taste the raw batter. The fries were completely unseasoned and poorly fried. I really wonder why it was so busy. And for that price... I'd rather catch my own fish. 😉

I will definitely come back again to taste these amazing flavors. If there were 10 stars, I would give it 10. 👌

Bei Schabi Fisch essen gehörte bislang zu meinen Hamburg Ritual. Heute hatte ich leider eine enttäuschende Erfahrung: Der Fisch trocken, der Salat matt, und unter den frisch frittierten Kartoffelscheiben lagen kalte. Da half es auch nicht, dass die Markise ausgefahren wurde. Hätte mit dem Himmel mitweinen wollen.

Exceptionally delicious shrimp stir-fry!

Went there for the first time today. The food tasted okay and the portions were decent, but I wouldn't go back. The salad had no seasoning, just oil, the garlic sauce was a standard tartar sauce, and the various fish fillets all tasted the same. The chips were okay but nothing special. We weren't offered any bread, and we had to ask if they had any drinks. Unfortunately, it was a flop for us. For €23, you can definitely get better fish elsewhere in Hamburg, and definitely cheaper.

They are friendly and have a lot of food. When the weather is nice, you can sit on the terrace and eat.

You can definitely do it, but it wasn't a highlight. You sit on beer benches on the street and it's not that easy to get a seat, but the guys really make an effort and people don't sit there for long, so it works quite well. The atmosphere on this street is kind of cool. We had the prawns with sauce (be careful: the sauce is spicy! Unfortunately it wasn't included) & the mix plate. Everything was very fresh and tasted good, but it wasn't anything special. Fish was fresh 👍🏼 We paid 50 euros for both with two drinks.

You have to eat here. Small and nice snack bar. In summer you can get a seat in front of the door, with a bit of a wait. There are also some seats inside. Great, keep it up.

Very tasty fish, at rightly high prices. But it's just so delicious! The seating situation is "challenging" if you want to eat on a Friday afternoon. You have to wait a while until one of the seats in front of the door becomes available. But as I said, very tasty food and very friendly staff! Definitely recommended! 🙂👍🏻

Whenever I'm in Hamburg, I come here to eat at least once. It's fresh. It is good. It's simple, but it's like the south. You have the feeling that you are really somewhere in Turkey or Greece. Simple but good

🐠 I would definitely recommend only this place as a fish place in Hamburg. We split one victoria fish between two people. The service could be a little faster, although the place was not very full, we waited at the table. However, compared to other fish places, we were able to establish a good communication with the staff and we could not get enough of the flavor of the fish.

Oh, Shabi, what happened to you? Since you were still new to the ski jump, the price/performance and quality were great. Now I come into the store and it smells strongly of old fish. This is not a sign of freshness as fresh fish does not smell. A few meters further on it starts to smell intensely of cigarette smoke. The seat is really dirty even though the store is empty and there is enough time for cleaning. The rest of the store is also dirty and there is a very bad trashcan smell. The number of shrimps (they are not prawns, as incorrectly advertised) is very “clear”. That used to be different too.

I've known this shop for years and was happy to pay the prices for fish. But today a baby cockroach crawled across my table. I know this is a serious accusation, but I have researched it and there are no two opinions on it. The general condition is very unsanitary and the smell in the backyard is simply unbearable. I regret my last few visits to the store. Cleanliness and politeness should be a matter of course and not an insurmountable obstacle!

Food was delicious, but I was shocked to see they cook both fish and seafood on the same place. I am allergic to seafood and shellfish, like many people, and as a general rule, they should be cooked and handled separately. If I had not seen them cooking all together, I could have eaten my fish and ended up in the hospital. So, not really safe and professional. Also, I first paid my fish and then saw them cooking it with seafood. The guy was not very helpful, and only reimbursed me because another customer bought my fish.... come on.

We got a mix plate and a shrimp plate and Grilled Salmon plate. The food was very delicious and all type of fish were the most fresh I have ever had. We come back again and my future suggestion to all.

The fish tasted so fresh and nice. And the fried calamari?! Usually when you bread them, they lose some of their taste but not here. It stayed. Great choice honestly. I recommend going when the weather is nicer because it’s quite cool to be outside. Inside there is not so much space. It was our case, and we were able to enjoy a wonderful night with nice food. Will go back!

It used to be good. The prices have gone down abnormally. For the 5 star restaurant it's ok but not for the fish snack bar.

It took me years to come back to Hamburg and to this tasteful Imbiss, but so so worthy ! Prices have changed a bit, of course, but still a great value for money! Generous portions between 13-20€ I loved my mixed teller ! Btw, I sat inside and even though they were cooking all the time and it didn’t smelled phishy, not for Smokey. Atmosphere is local and with people whose wants to eat good fish.

Not everything is perfect here. But whatever. The food gets eight stars from me. That makes up for the small weaknesses. Absolute recommendation. This is where you have to go! Insane shop. Yummy. Fresh. The chef knows what he is doing. Fish are fresh and very tasty. He uses fat sparingly without sacrificing flavor.

We thought it was a fish sandwich kiosk and went there on our way back from our North Sea vacation... The chef then made a special fish kebab with grilled salmon to take away. Very strong. And it also tasted very, very good 👍

Good fish, good price, very kind and heartfelt service. Very good staff and the owner. Their attitude was even better than the food. I got the fish sandwich with Salmon, salad and fries. They put some sauce as well. It was very tasty. Honestly, I was sceptical about going to a fish place at night, near closing time thinking it would be not so fresh however I was very satisfied with my purchase, had no stomach problems afterwards, and the food was delicious. I would come back again and again.

Good food made out of fresh ingredients. Basically the only thing they serve are different variations of fish&chips: one can select any seafood options available on a counter - and they will cook it. They don’t speak English and don’t accept cash. Please note: the location isn’t cheap, the price is actually an average one for Hamburg which is 10-20 eur depending on which fish option one selected. Drinks are quite expensive as well. I’d still say it’s worth visiting if it if on your way.

The portions are plentiful, the fish exquisite, the soufflé potatoes worthy of a Michelin-starred restaurant. It's an imbiss with tables on the street, but many restaurants would like to serve such dishes.

Nice fish snack bar in the Schanzenviertel. We had 2 mixed plates and once the salmon. Both came in combination with fried potatoes and a small salad and were freshly prepared. It tasted very good. The only thing that could be criticized is the location right on the street with a lot of traffic and loud car posers.

WAKE UP! Schabi's Fischimbiss was my favorite place to enjoy delicious food for years. I have been a regular for many years and have always appreciated the dishes. But unfortunately a lot has changed in the last few months, so I now avoid the snack bar. The staff has become increasingly unfriendly, which really makes your visit miserable. You just don't feel welcome anymore, and that has a noticeable impact on the atmosphere. It's almost as if the owners and employees have lost interest in their own business. Instead, the service is rather cold and disinterested. In addition, prices are continually rising - to an extent that I find outrageous. Even if the food is still delicious, I'm no longer willing to spend so much money on it only to be served by unfriendly staff. It's a shame, because Schabi's Fischimbiss was a place I enjoyed coming to for a long time. But I probably won't go back in its current form.

I didn't think this justified the generally positive Google reviews. The prices are higher than the menu shown on Google Maps and I would not say it is good value. I had the Fisch und Chips and it was quite dry, served with a very limp salad. A number of the other customers seemed to know the owners and made me rather uncomfortable - one group demanded that I switch tables with them, and another sat directly opposite me staring at me until I left. I wouldn't go again.

Schabi is an absolute insider tip in Hamburg! The food there is simply delicious, especially the fish dishes and shrimps. The preparation was quick and the fish was always fresh and perfectly prepared. However, it is often difficult to get free seats there, which shows how popular the snack bar is. I think this place could be more than just a takeaway because the quality and taste of the food is exceptional. Every time I'm in Hamburg I visit Schabi and it's always a highlight. I can highly recommend this fish snack to everyone – simply delicious!

Well, I don't know what to say. Tasty but overcooked fish. Dirty and untidy. Toilet disaster. How crowded they are, they could arrange the space better.

I was back at Schabis for the first time in ages. Unfortunately the quality of the food has deteriorated. The fish tasted watery and unfortunately wasn't seasoned well. The potato chips are very soft. Although still a simple takeaway, the area where the food is prepared was very unhygienic. My friend ordered food while I was outside. If I had seen the conditions, I would have canceled immediately.

Schanze Urgestein it's delicious I recommend the scampi plate with fried potatoes if you're in the Schanze and come to discover Hamburg you should definitely make a stop here.
