The smaller restaurant behind the Jakobikirche offers the same delicious fish as the large one at the town hall. But it is much quieter, the tables are further apart and are covered with white tablecloths.

I have known the fish fry kitchen since I was a child! Actually a MUST for everyone!

When I was young I often went to Daniel Wischer. You can eat fish and drink Fassbrause very well, even today.

Authentic and no frills. Fresh fish, simply delicious.

Food very good. But I was surprised that there was a woman sitting in front of the toilets in this restaurant and that I, as a guest, had to pay to use the toilet.

Heute wieder da gewesen und sehr enttäuscht, denn die schöne Goldkruste vom Goldbarsch ist verändert worden: Total salzig offenbar mit einem neuen Würzsalz versehen mit Curry und/oder Glutamat. Die Knusperkruste ist auch nicht mehr so hauchdünn wie früher. Seit meiner Kindheit gehe ich in dieses Restaurant, und immer war die Goldkruste hauchdünn und geschmacklich neutral. Kam immer ungesalzen auf den Tisch, und man musste erstmal salzen. Der Fisch wurde heute leider platt gemacht von diesem aufdringlichen Geschmack der Kruste. BÄÄ! Schmeckt künstlich und nach Fastfood 🤮. Nie wieder will ich sowas essen! Die Bedienung meinte, sie fragt mal, ob einer der Köche verliebt ist. Das war nur rhetorisch. Mein Einwand hat sie wenig interessiert und hat behauptet, die Kruste, früher Bierteig, wurde nicht verändert. Mich würde mal interessieren, ob das ein „Ausrutscher“ war? Oder die spontane Idee eines Kochs, diese aufdringlichen Gewürze da reinzutun. Beim Essen ging es noch….. Aber danach war der ganze Mund nur noch salzig und von diesen Gewürzen erfüllt. Kein Genuss!!! Vom Fisch blieb quasi kein Geschmack mehr übrig. Wollen die Leute das so? Können die durch das ganze Fastfood nichts anderes mehr schmecken? Egal, wenn das so bleibt, gehe ich da nicht mehr hin! Musste zu Hause erstmal viel trinken und Trostschokolade zu mir nehmen, weil im Mund nur noch Ekel von diesem Geschmack (Geschmacksverstärker?) war.

You can give 1 or 5 stars for the ambience. I gave the "old" design 5 stars because the ambience reminds me of my childhood. When I was 5 years old, I proudly believed my cask brew was a beer 🍺. The portions are smaller than back then, but still taste great! Unusual opening hours are 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. But if you stick to it! Bon appetit:-)

We are living in 21st century, not medieval times. It is unbelievable that a highly priced restaurant in a tourist area in the city center only accepts cash. I am not supporting such tax evasion tactics.

If you want to get to know a really old-fashioned fish fry kitchen with a traditionally furnished dining room, you should definitely go to Daniel Wischer. Everything here looks like it was in the 70s and the waitresses are friendly. The food is simple, but I like it. I think it's good that they haven't adapted to the zeitgeist here. Of course it is subjective and solely my attitude to the food that was served to me there. I'll put it this way: when I order a plaice fillet, I don't expect 3 pieces of fillet in a pan of breading that is prepared in the fryer. I want to eat fish and not oily breading from the fryer. The atmosphere has something of an old canteen. The poor, overworked waitress visibly tried to smile and be polite. It is absolutely not a place I would want to eat at again.

For as long as I can remember, there's always been food here. This has been going on for probably 20 years now! And always the same! A must for everyone to eat here!

We love eating 🐟Fish & Chips 🍟 in this traditional restaurant on Steinstrasse. The service is always friendly and you are served quickly, even if it is a little busier at lunchtime. A little renovation might not be a bad idea. Otherwise, we'll always be happy to come back!

I come to Wischer on every business trip. The fried fish is excellent!! The staff leaves a lot to be desired, a lady with a slightly better build, Eastern accent, gray hair was so rude that I left. Long-established institution in Hamburg. Formerly on Mönckebergstrasse. We like the current location because it brings back a piece of home and memories. The homemade potato salad is simply great and regardless of the fish dishes, the quality is always great. In addition, one should not forget the staff. Tired of walking and very hungry, we passed in front of this place and decided to go in. As soon as we entered the waitress smiled at us and took us to our table. It is a very large place, decorated in a very simple way, wooden tables and chairs, some paintings and boat decorations. The menu is not very long but very appetizing. We wanted to try the calamari but they were already out of it. So we decided to have the fried cod, fish and chips type, with fries. We also had a glass of white wine which we didn't like very much. Relatively quickly our food arrived. There are good pieces of cod and a plate of French fries on the side. It was very fresh and very rich, not oily at all. You have to try those calamari again.

Lunch at Daniel Wischer, Steinstraße 15, very tasty fish as usual, all side dishes from our own kitchen. Very cozy atmosphere, still from the time when my mother always took me to eat fish at the end of a shopping trip in the city center. Back then the order was always “golden perch, potato salad and barrel soda”.

Good fish sandwiches, but nothing special. As a note: sauce on the fish rolls must be requested at an additional cost. The staff doesn't point out that the rolls don't have any sauce.

The plaice didn't work at all. No longer recommended I could have eaten the fish just as easily in the North Sea. The only thing was the fish soup which was good. We won't be coming back. We'll have to look for another location

The most authentic Hamburg fish restaurant for us Rhinelanders. And the facility is almost worthy of monument protection. Today we would have preferred to sit outside. But that doesn't work there. Everything else compensates double or triple. We can do it again!

Ordered pan-fried fish, with fried potatoes, - lukewarm potato salad was served, with oil, 2 dry pieces of fish, without remoulade, But 1 piece of lemon included. - Remoulade mini bowl was reordered and an extra 2 euros were charged. Was better years ago.

Der Backfisch mit Kartoffelsalat war ein absoluter Genuss. Der Fisch total frisch und der Kartoffelsalat hat wirklich wie hausgemacht geschmeckt. Dazu war der Service sehr gut. Die absolut zentrale Lage am Rathaus ist auch perfekt. Wir kommen wieder!

Daniel Wischer is an institution in Hamburg and so it's almost a tradition to eat fish here. But the ravages of time seem to be eating away here too. The location is somewhat hidden and parallel to Mönckebergstrasse. We do not accept credit cards. It is already posted on the entrance door. Is this contemporary when many companies are moving away from cash payments? The atmosphere has the charm of the good old days. White tablecloths lie on the tables. But take away meals are also offered. For many seniors, this is a popular lunchtime meeting place. The range of dishes on offer is quite clear and simple. I choose golden perch with homemade potato salad (€16.50). The 0.2 l Diet Coke costs €3.00. The service is average. The ordered food and drink are quickly served. Unfortunately, the presentation is not particularly appealing. The fresh fish is served in a small "mountain" on a plate that is far too small. The potato salad doesn't look particularly appealing either. The taste of everything is average at best. You can't have everything you want or imagine here. I now have to pay €22.50 in cash. There is no WIFI INTERNET here.

Daniel Wischer-als Fisch-Restaurant- ist eine Institution mit Tradition in Hamburg. In diesem Restaurant scheint die Zeit stehen geblieben zu sein. Von außen unscheinbar betritt man dieses Restaurant zur Mittagszeit. Die Lage ist etwas abseits der bekannten Einkaufsstraßen. Dennoch liegt es parallel zur Mönckebergstrasse. Drinnen ist alles in braunem Holz ( Kirschbaum?) gehalten. Weiße Tischdecken liegen auf den Tischen. Die Gäste sind heute zur Mittagszeit fast ausschließlich Senioren. Auch die weibliche Bedienung ist älter. Take away wird auch angeboten. Ich bestellte Goldbarsch mit hausgemachten Kartoffelsalat (16,50 €) und eine kleine Cola Light (0,2 l = 3,00 €). Die Präsentation hat mich nicht angesprochen. Der Berg an Fisch lag auf einem viel zu kleinen Teller. Auch der Kartoffelsalat ( hausgemacht) erweckte bei mir keinen Appetit. WIFI-INTERNET ist nicht verfügbar. KREDITKARTEN werden nicht akzeptiert. Nur Barzahlung. Das steht auch draußen an der Eingangstür. Mein letzter Besuch liegt rund 10 Jahre zurück. Ich fürchte, dass auch mein nächster Besuch so lange auf sich warten lässt.

Atmospheric restaurant. There is self-service at the front, and a restaurant with service in the further part. I ordered fish in mustard sauce and I must say that if it weren't for the sauce, I wouldn't have been able to eat it, because the fish didn't have much of its own flavor. A bit like lightly salted cardboard. The salmon was delicious! Very nice waitress. The lady who takes care of the toilets on the first floor glances sideways for tips, and if you don't give anything, you won't hear "goodbye" anymore. A bit weak.

So good that I forgot to take the obligatory food photo! That says it all. Only when it comes to fries would I personally prefer the wide Belgian ones, but everything was excellent, freshly made and everyone was happy.

I am now 78 years old and have enjoyed eating at Daniel Wischen's since I was a child. I was extremely satisfied every time. During our last visit today on February 2nd, 2024, my wife and I unfortunately discovered that our beloved golden perch fillet was full was bones. In all our years we have never experienced anything like this. Once again experience that the quality here is no longer what it used to be? It would be a shame. Gute und einfache Fischgerichte ohne Chi-Chi. Schade, dass es keine Bratkartoffeln gibt, sondern frittierte Kartoffelscheiben. Das ist dann etwas viel aus der "Fritte",xwenn man Backfisch hat. Ich mag den Gurkensalat mit Dillrahm sehr. Preislich auch total in Ordnung. Service sehr aufmerksam. Das DW in der Steinstr. besticht durch das kultige 60er-Interieur. Hoffe, das bleibt auch so erhalten und wird nicht gentrifiziert.

Restaurant im Stil der Endfünfziger. Reelle Portionen, faire Preise, urige Atmosphäre, sehr nettes und gradliniges Personal und kein Schickimicki. Hier bekommt man einfach was man bestellt. Reichlich und lecker. Ich gehe immer wieder gern dort hin

Was war da los? Das Dorschfilet hatte Gräten , war trocken und die Panade geschmacklos… schade, vor einigen Wochen habe ich gut dort gegessen

Es ist nett, traditionsreich und klassisch. Das Retro Gefühl kommt nicht nur durch das 60er Jahre Mobiliar sondern auch durch die sehr Karte, die sehr klassische Backfischvarianten enthält. Auch das Publikum war etwas "älter" und so ist das Ganze eine Reise in die Vergangenheit - aber im positiven Sinne. Ein bisschen mehr Mut beim Würzen und es ist perfekt. Büsumer Scholle war sehr gut. Die Portionen sind großzügig

Eigentlich ein toller, alteingesessener Laden mit ebensolchem Ambiente, mag ich sehr. Heute habe ich ein Seelachs-Schnitzel Fischbrötchen zum Mitnehmen geholt. Die Dame hinterm Tresen war sehr nett und hat das Brötchen frisch gemacht; der Tresen ist hoch, ich konnte nicht zusehen. Zuhause dann du Box geöffnet und mir direkt die Klamotten versaut 😡 Siehe Bilder, alles schwamm im Fett…das geht gar nicht Klar, Seelachsschnitzel sind salzig und fettig, aber so??? Nein, das ist ekelig, ich konnte das Brötchen nicht zu Ende essen

Ich kenne Daniel Wischer, das Essen und die Filiale in der Steinstraße seit gut 50 Jahren, da ich dort schon als Kind mit meinen Eltern essen war. Das leckerste war für mich immer der Kartoffelsalat dort. Nur mit Essig und Öl zubereitet, aber irgendwie schmeckte er einfach superlecker... Tja, schmeckte, oder besser hatte geschmeckt... Denn beim heutigen Besuch war ich leider maßlos enttäuscht von diesem Kartoffelsalat. Sehr viele Kräuter sind ja noch ok, aber das Dressing dazu war viel zu süß, und hatte keine Ähnlichkeit mehr mit meinem Lieblings-Kartoffelsalat. Sehr schade, hab das meiste liegenlassen...

Ein Laden wie man Ihn aus den Filmen der 60er Jahre kennt. Ein Fach toll, da sehr sauber super Fisch, und top Service. Schade dass die Bedienungen nicht weiße Schürzen mit Spitze haben wie früher. Geht natürlich um den Laden in der Steinstraße
