The fish and other dishes are delicious. In the snack bar area, you can watch the food being prepared. The woman at the till also prepares fish sandwiches and other small orders. Although she wears gloves, she uses them to handle onions, lettuce leaves, and even money. I find that unhygienic. I also think it's outdated that they only accept cash.

A must-see for anyone visiting Hamburg.

For many years we've been visiting Daniel Wischer and are always delighted by the consistently high quality. Why change something that has proven successful for decades? Memories are stirred, yet everything remains as it always was. The service, the decor, and the food are perfect. The fresh fish is unfussy, the side dishes are excellent and have a clean, crisp flavor. The service is friendly and professional, the prices are reasonable, and even the guests are smiling. Everything is as it always was—exactly as expected. I hope it stays this way! Thank you. See you soon!

Unfortunately, I have a very unpleasant experience to report. The two of us were sitting on chairs outside the restaurant and had just received our fish and chips, which we were about to enjoy. At that moment, a drunk customer came out of the restaurant, fell, and landed directly on our food, scattering it all over our clothes and the street. It's absolutely idiotic and unnecessary, but it happens. What I can't understand, however, is the restaurant's reaction. When we went inside to point out the situation and asked if they could perhaps clean up the mess for the other customers, and politely inquired whether we could possibly receive some kind of compensation, such as at least one of our two portions, the drunk man finally came out of the restaurant, and we had already been harassed outside on the restaurant's premises. But instead of at least slightly improving our mood, we were met with an unempathetic and, on top of that, unfriendly dismissal, and told that if we wanted anything else, we should buy it. Isn't that no way to treat customers? I also don't know if something like this is good for the restaurant, after all, dozens of people saw the incident and the restaurant's reaction to it.

The restaurant on Steinstrasse still has that 1950s flair. The fish is always delicious. And they serve original Fassbrause (a type of German soft drink). Awesome!

After a long time, I finally visited Daniel Wischer's restaurant on Steinstraße again. The decor is a bit dated by today's standards, but I like that. I ordered directly at the counter, and the food arrived very quickly. It was delicious, just like I remember from my childhood. My only complaint was the cashier. The woman was incredibly unfriendly and disinterested. It's a real shame because it really detracted from my experience. She was wearing a latex glove to prepare the food, but then she used the same hand to put food in her mouth. That was truly unhygienic and disgusting.

Daniel Wischer on Steinstraße is a Hamburg institution! I loved coming here as a child, and I'm always happy to return! Top-notch service, top-notch fish! My recommendation: boiled fish! Cod with mustard sauce! But the classics, fried fish, sea bass, etc., are also great! I recommend potato salad with bacon! And (from my childhood) a large draft beer! :)

Lunch at Daniel Wischer's, Steinstraße 15. As usual, delicious fish, all the side dishes from the kitchen. A very cozy atmosphere, reminiscent of the days when my mother would always take me for a fish dinner after a shopping trip downtown. Back then, the order was always "goldfish, potato salad, and draft beer."

If you're looking for good fried fish, this is the place for you. The service is friendly and attentive. The ambiance is reminiscent of 30 years ago and just fits the bill.

A Hamburg classic for decades. Unfortunately, the sea bass was sold out, but the alternative, baked plaice fillet with potato salad and remoulade, was very good. A glass of Fassbrause (a kind of sparkling wine) was legendary. The service team was prompt and extremely friendly. The ambiance—well, a bit old-school. But that's not what Daniel Wischer is all about for me.

The price-performance ratio is right! I love that the fries aren't frozen but taste like freshly made, 'real' fries. The atmosphere is authentic and cozy. I'll be back.

Supposedly an institution in the fish sector, I found our food bland, the side dishes rather dry, and the potato salad drowned in an indefinable sauce. I wouldn't go back.

I'm nostalgically in love with the almost historic ambiance (which is why I always go to Steinstraße!), the consistent quality over the decades (yes, the portions have gotten smaller in the last 10 years, but how else could you offer such quality at such a low price!), and the ladies serving the food. A real gem, and I hope I can continue to pamper my Hamburg visitors here for a long time to come!

Ich wahr schon als Kind mit meinem Papa da es wahr lecker knusprig frisches Fett etc. Leider sag ich als Koch ist es nur noch Fastfood ohne liebe . Simple Dinge sind lecker, sie sollten auch frisch sein und mit liebe zubereitet werden. das ist leider nicht mehr der fall.

A journey back in time to the land of the iconic fried fish! Our fried fish (green herring, yellow perch) came from two huge deep fryers. They taste great. The side dishes of potato salad (South German style) and mashed potatoes are also highly recommended. The interior design and service quality have a time travel character. Recommendation!

When I got off the train station, it was the first place I went to to feel like I had arrived in Hamburg. There were polite employees and delicious fish. I had the mixed fried fish plate, it was quite delicious, and the potato salad was also amazing! The prices are a little high, but I can say that it is normal for such a famous and beautiful place.

Very good fish restaurant with a wide range of food and drinks and a good price-performance ratio, There were four of us in the restaurant at the town hall. At around 7 p.m. the location was busy, so we were in the self-service area, hence only 4* for service. But there was always at least one employee “cleaning up” in the self-service area. Table reservation is recommended. Nice atmosphere, a matter of taste, but maybe not for everyone. Food was very tasty with all four dishes.

Extremely tasty fried fish, freshly fried. Also very tasty mashed potatoes and potato salad. And where else can you get mashed potatoes to go? Mashed potatoes are truly underrated. The prices are also extremely fair, especially compared to the rest of Hamburg. The service is friendly and fast. Insider tip: Due to its proximity to the main train station (5-minute walk), it's a perfect snack if the German train keeps you waiting again. Better than any pretzel, kebab, or burger from the station.

The smaller restaurant behind the Jakobikirche offers the same delicious fish as the large one at the town hall. But it is much quieter, the tables are further apart and are covered with white tablecloths.

When I was young I often went to Daniel Wischer. You can eat fish and drink Fassbrause very well, even today.

Food very good. But I was surprised that there was a woman sitting in front of the toilets in this restaurant and that I, as a guest, had to pay to use the toilet.

Heute wieder da gewesen und sehr enttäuscht, denn die schöne Goldkruste vom Goldbarsch ist verändert worden: Total salzig offenbar mit einem neuen Würzsalz versehen mit Curry und/oder Glutamat. Die Knusperkruste ist auch nicht mehr so hauchdünn wie früher. Seit meiner Kindheit gehe ich in dieses Restaurant, und immer war die Goldkruste hauchdünn und geschmacklich neutral. Kam immer ungesalzen auf den Tisch, und man musste erstmal salzen. Der Fisch wurde heute leider platt gemacht von diesem aufdringlichen Geschmack der Kruste. BÄÄ! Schmeckt künstlich und nach Fastfood 🤮. Nie wieder will ich sowas essen! Die Bedienung meinte, sie fragt mal, ob einer der Köche verliebt ist. Das war nur rhetorisch. Mein Einwand hat sie wenig interessiert und hat behauptet, die Kruste, früher Bierteig, wurde nicht verändert. Mich würde mal interessieren, ob das ein „Ausrutscher“ war? Oder die spontane Idee eines Kochs, diese aufdringlichen Gewürze da reinzutun. Beim Essen ging es noch….. Aber danach war der ganze Mund nur noch salzig und von diesen Gewürzen erfüllt. Kein Genuss!!! Vom Fisch blieb quasi kein Geschmack mehr übrig. Wollen die Leute das so? Können die durch das ganze Fastfood nichts anderes mehr schmecken? Egal, wenn das so bleibt, gehe ich da nicht mehr hin! Musste zu Hause erstmal viel trinken und Trostschokolade zu mir nehmen, weil im Mund nur noch Ekel von diesem Geschmack (Geschmacksverstärker?) war.
