Not sure why this place has 4.5 stars! We ate at the counter section and my matjes bun had one tiny fish and was super dry! The only fresh thing about the fish & chips where the chips…I really didn’t enjoy the food and everything is overpriced (a tiny glass of wine 6,90eur!) this was the worst place for food I’ve been in Hamburg

Solid simple seafood in what is practically a Hamburg stalwart. The fish soup is good and their fish is generally decent though without any additional seasoning or finesse. The prices are also alright for what’s smack in the middle of downtown Hamburg.

Simply the best fish shop in Hamburg, even if the hot lemonade isn't on the menu—the neighbor arranges it. The soup is mega mega, and I also love the cucumber salad, just like Grandma's 👌😋😋😋

I had a wonderful experience at this seafood restaurant! The dishes were fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented, especially the soupe. The crab roll was, at best, average in taste. The freshly prepared herring roll, unfortunately, was also nothing to write home about.

We had a lovely evening with delicious fish soup and a variety of fried fish, with very attentive and friendly service in a pleasant atmosphere. Despite arriving shortly before closing time, everything was excellent.

Delicious fried fish with fantastic crispy fries and the legendary draft beer. The fish fry kitchen is always worth a visit.

The matjes roll contained half a herring, onions, and lettuce. The roll was dry, with no sauce on either half. I didn't eat the top of the roll. Wiper was recommended to us. I won't buy matjes rolls anymore; maybe I'll try a hot dish sometime.

We bought fish sandwiches to go. We were already in line at the counter shortly after the store opened. The service was friendly, attentive, and quick. It was my turn in no time. The sandwiches were carefully packaged, and I was already on my way home. Even after the long journey home, the fish sandwiches we chose still tasted very good, crispy, and delicious. We will be back on our next visit!

A down-to-earth, simple, and good fish fry. I always enjoy coming here. This weekend, it was my first stop before heading to my accommodation at the Landungsbrücken.

Tasted a bit bland and very greasy. The potato salad was good. Personally, I think €19.50 is a bit too much for it. The seating is also very close together. The service is very friendly.

If you -like me- get up too late after a great night out in Hamburg and you would like some breakfast or even brunch but all venues are crowded at quarter to 12/noon and you love fish n chips... this is the place to be 🤩🤤 The interior design gives a nice ambiente, the only criticism would be that tables are a tad bit too close for my liking to make leaving the table easy. In Germany, restaurants usually only serve tartare or garlic sauce with our version of fish n chips but at this traditional fish restaurant they actually serve it with the classic malted vinegar. Fish was moist, chips crunchy and well but not too much salted. Instead of mushy peas, they serve a crunchy garden salad with the typical northern German slightly sweetened sour cream dressing. All in all very delicious. In fact it was so good I would have liked a piece of fish more and/or a few chips more, Therefore only 4 stars in the food section for leaving me wanting more 😉. Service is immaculate, friendly and kindly convincing, that a good late breakfast could also be a typical Hamburg "Fischbrötchen with coffee on the go or a nice warm meal at the table." Thank you for a great experience.

A visit to Daniel Wischer offers solid, traditional North German cooking that is undoubtedly freshly prepared and delicious. However, the dishes lack that special touch that lingers in your memory or makes you want to return soon. It's honest food, more down-to-earth than inspired. The ambiance, however, proves to be a challenge: The space is narrow, the tables are close together, and the noise quickly reaches an unpleasant level. This may be fitting for a lively fish restaurant, but it makes the experience less relaxing than you'd hope. If you're just looking for a simple plate of fish, you'll find it here. For a lasting experience, however, it's too cramped, too loud—and too culinary inconspicuous.

Fish and chips in a nice and central location

A classic Hamburg fish restaurant. The food is really good and solid, just as it should be. We've eaten here several times and we like it. Crowded and touristy. Definitely worth a visit. Thank you and thumbs up. 👍👍

Food is great. Service seemed like personnel was more concerned with serving the locals. We had to wait much longer to get a table, to be served, and then when we wanted to pay they also first made sure every other table could pay earlier even though we received the bill 10 minutes earlier and where kindly asking to pay. Summary: food great, did not feel super welcome as foreigner

The food here was really delicious, fresh and perfectly prepared – truly a place that lives up to its reputation when it comes to fish dishes. However, I had a rather disappointing service experience. I kindly asked the waiter if I could switch my tea to a coffee, and his only reply was “it’s ready”. In the end, I just received a cup of hot water with a teabag, which felt very underwhelming, especially in such a well-known restaurant with such great cuisine. I really hope the management improves the service quality to match the outstanding food.

If you like fish, you should try it there. The fish was really delicious, but the restaurant was too cramped for me. I also had to squeeze past two very large dogs, who were lying in the middle of the restaurant, although they were well behaved (their owners were eating there), but I personally didn't think it was okay. The restaurant was very busy. The service was good, friendly, and not intrusive. Overall: I will eat there again when I'm in Hamburg.

We were there yesterday and had a delicious meal. The service was very polite and friendly. I just didn't realize they didn't accept card payments, so I had to quickly run to the ATM. But we'll definitely be back when we're in the area. Thanks to all the lovely staff.

I was disappointed this time. I had Finkenwerder-style plaice with fried potatoes and cucumber salad to start. The salad was bland, the fried potatoes were like finely chopped jacket potatoes that had apparently only been briefly pan-fried. The plaice was seared crisply on one side, but the other side could have been cooked a little longer. I explained the shortcomings to the waitress, and they brought me an espresso. Unfortunately, I can't recommend it at all.

I can't stress enough how amazing the food here is. And the service is exceptional. Our server was this nice blonde lady she was so welcoming, warm and courteous. I wish you the best of luck. We tried the fired cod which was great crispy and juicy the fries alone were really great. Fish soup was so hearty and fulfilling. We also tried the tiger prawns which tasted fresh but needed a bit of salt and pepper because we like spicy food. Overall Amazon experience.

Daniel Wischer is an institution in Hamburg. I went there with my grandmother as a child in the 1970s to eat fish and drink the delicious draft beer. The new location at Rathausmarkt is also very cozy. You usually don't have to wait long. The fish is very fresh and delicious. The mashed potatoes are recommended. The price is reasonable. But I'd like to point out one thing: the service is always very friendly and in a good mood. If you're nice to them, you'll always get friendly feedback and attentive service.

I was tipped off that they serve well-filled fish sandwiches here, and they're true. Unfortunately, on a Saturday, not all varieties were available, but you can find what you're looking for. Reasonably priced, well-filled. A little more sauce would have improved the excellent sandwiches. You can also order hot food on site.

They are super rude especially if you don’t speak German ! And they scam me ?! I read exactly what I want on the menu , they took the order wrong ,portion rather than 1 stuck- then ın seconds I realised that I paid more and tell them what I ordered again . Lady on the counter argue with me at the end give the less amount and did not give my money back !?? I asked for change but they ignore me like did not understand ! They are rude ,unfriendly and also apparently trying to trick you to get more money ! I don’t definetely suggest visiting this place , food is also not worth this treatment !

We had a thoroughly enjoyable visit at Daniel Wischer's. The food was outstanding – freshly prepared, full of flavor, and of very high quality. The service also left nothing to be desired: attentive, friendly, and pleasantly unobtrusive. Particularly noteworthy was the warm treatment of our children, who were cared for with great care and patience. Overall, a very harmonious experience in a relaxed atmosphere. We would gladly return.

We got a portion of fish and chips at the counter and ate it outside on the sidewalk, where there are a few seats. It was delicious, especially the tartar sauce. It was packed (and correspondingly loud) inside on a Tuesday afternoon; the place is doing well.

As someone from the UK, I had to face the horrible experience of seeing how they serve our traditional English fish & chips. Here it is made in the poorest way. They think that fish & chips is only to fry some fish and put them on top of fried potatoes. Also, the waitress needs to learn English good manners. Bad bad bad.

We wanted to have fish, but since there were a lot of people here and the preparation would have taken longer, we only had drinks and dessert. But the waiter had a problem with that, saying that if we were only going to drink, we should go somewhere else. Even though there were still free tables. That disappointed me very much. It would have required more assertiveness, since my colleague was handicapped.

A fantastic fish restaurant with excellent fish dishes that taste absolutely delicious. Today I had the North Sea plaice Büsum style with fried potatoes. I drank a good local beer from the Ratsherrn brewery and had a delicious chocolate pudding for dessert. Simply amazing. The taste will stay with me for a long time. I would give it 10☆ if I could. Super amazing.

The fish and chips were quite tasty, but the tartar sauce was a bit light. For €12 (takeaway), it was quite okay – the portion size was sufficient for lunch for me as a woman.
