Erika's Eck in Hamburg

Today, my son and I went to Erika's Eck – and it was exactly what you'd imagine authentic, North German home cooking to be. The small restaurant is quaint, down-to-earth, and has the unique charm of a traditional inn. Wood-paneled walls, old lamps, and a cozy atmosphere – you immediately feel welcome. The food? Generous portions and heartily delicious. The schnitzel was perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. The peppercorn sauce was creamy and spicy, and the fries were fresh and crispy. The side salad was also crisp and went well with the hearty main course. A freshly tapped beer – it doesn't get much better than that. The service was friendly and quick, despite the restaurant being packed. No frills, just good food and a relaxed atmosphere. Just right for a relaxing evening with friends or family. The bottom line: If you're looking for authentic, honest food in Hamburg, Erika's Eck is the place to be. We'd love to come back!

We've been coming to Erika's Eck for decades, and I'm sorry I have to change my previous review. It's been under new management for quite some time now, and it's noticeable not only in the opening hours. Unfortunately, we have the impression that the quality of the food has declined considerably. On our last visit, for example, we ordered a large bottle of water. A carafe of water without a label was placed on the table, so we assumed it was just plain tap water, and for €7.50. No one asked if it tasted good or if anyone would like another drink. If you want to pay, you're asked to go to the counter and do so there, even though the place wasn't even half full. It's all these little things that have changed. In short, Erika's Eck is unfortunately just the name.

Delicious food, friendly service and all at a great price, would go back!

Erika's Eck is an absolute cult favorite. This was my first visit, and I'll be back. I love these old, iconic restaurants/pubs. They still serve home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Huge portions, so you have to fight to eat it all. I would recommend making a reservation, though, as there can be longer wait times if you don't have one.

It's an old place, but it has a very nice atmosphere. The coffee is also very good. You can't complain.

Just brilliant always but also always the best food

The food was good, the location authentic. We had reserved a table inside, but were only seated at the exact moment and waited outside, even though everything was already prepared. We found that rather odd. In the end, we moved outside anyway. The waitress was also unsure about our drink order, and the food ultimately arrived before the drinks, which shouldn't have happened. The payment process was also strange. They didn't take the cash outside at the table, but inside at the counter. However, we were only supposed to enter one at a time, so the rest went back outside and waited there. However, other guests came in to pay, and they suddenly found themselves ahead of us. We didn't see the point and went back inside, where there was already a long line waiting to pay the bills. This kind of guest treatment really annoyed us. The service was too chaotic for my taste. At least you could pay by card.

We've been there several times and were very satisfied. The schnitzels are excellent, the hamburgers are included, the service was great and relaxed, just the way we like it, and we were even lucky enough to get the last unreserved table. We'll be back.

I ordered food through Lieferando, and they forgot to send me the six drinks I ordered. I called the restaurant three times, and they never delivered. Terrible service. The food was dripping with oil.

We were there for the first time today, just the two of us, without a reservation. At first, they couldn't offer us a seat, even though there were a few free tables. Then they offered us a seat at a larger table. That was fine with us. What wasn't okay was that in the middle of our meal, we were asked to finish up slowly because the table was needed. Without any prior notice, we had to vacate the table and were "kicked out." In general, it must be said that we waited about 15 minutes before we could even place our order and be served. Service was nonexistent even after that. The food was okay. Nothing particularly good, but fine. At least it was while we were there. Now at home, both my wife and I are feeling unwell and have gastrointestinal problems. All in all, we probably won't go there again. What a shame

The food and service were very good. Unfortunately, the presentation of the food wasn't optimal. The plates were too small. For example, the schnitzel was stacked on top of the side dishes. It's difficult to find a place to start without spreading the food all over the table. That was also the only minor criticism for our group. Also suitable for medium-sized tour groups. A good ending point for tours of the ski jump.

It's actually a nice, quaint, old shop serving regional German cuisine. While they've raised their prices considerably, it's still within the normal range. The 120g roast beef with fried potatoes for €19.50 is okay and tasted perfectly fine. What wasn't okay, however, was the incredibly unfriendly service yesterday. From the first moment to the payment process, it was simply unfriendly, irritating, and listless. It's a shame, because I would have loved to invite my guests there again in the future, but as it is, I'd rather go somewhere else.

Today we tried something new in Hamburg. Erika's Eck, the cult pub when it comes to schnitzel. Beautiful, quaint place, super friendly staff. We didn't have a reservation, and they quickly found us a seat. The decor is rustic and cozy. You immediately feel comfortable and welcome. The menu offers plenty of variety, so everyone should find something they like. The staff was super friendly and, above all, quick, even though the place was packed. The schnitzel was so delicious and, most importantly, freshly made. Nothing frozen. The breading was just like grandma's, crispy and perfectly seasoned. The sauce was also super delicious. The price was absolutely reasonable. 3 people, one main course each + 2 drinks each, €90. We'll definitely be back, and if you haven't been there yet, you should definitely do so. I highly recommend Erika's Eck.

Very tasty food, many variations of schnitzel. The atmosphere is partly due to the fact that the location has long been revered as a go-to spot for nights out in the neighborhood or in the Schanze district. It certainly lives up to its reputation. The service is good, albeit occasionally inexperienced, but that doesn't detract from the atmosphere.

The food was good. The menu is a bit confusing, saying salad or vegetables. I ordered salad, but I got both. Otherwise, the atmosphere is rustic. Good value for money. Huge portions!!!

Erikas Eck, a Cozy Schnitzel Spot in Lively Schanzenviertel Lively Schanzenviertel is a tiny district brimming with cozy bars, vintage shops, and international restaurants set in colorful buildings. While walking and wandering through the area, I noticed a restaurant sign with a simple, small entrance door. Behind this unassuming door lies an establishment dedicated to schnitzels. The menu offers a variety of options, including pork schnitzel with different sauces, turkey schnitzel, and cordon bleu. Each dish features a very large schnitzel served atop fried potatoes with onions and pork ham cubes—delicious and generously portioned. Additionally, we tried the goulash soup, a creamy and flavorful dish packed with vegetables and tender chunks of meat, perfectly seasoned with paprika. The portion was satisfying, and the taste was excellent. The service was very friendly and helpful, adding to the pleasant experience. This is a great place that, if given the chance, I would happily visit again!

Just the way I love it: cult, delicious and hearty, always a must on every visit to Hamburg. The NDR documentary introduced me to the shop 😜.

The size of the schnitzel has been praised and photographed often enough. The taste is harder to describe. Paired with the fried potatoes, it's simply legendary. The same goes for the meatballs and the herring. Unfortunately, there was no room left for the red berry compote, which is surely just as good. We'll just have to come back to try it. Hopefully, this pub will remain a staple of the Schanzenviertel for a long time to come.

I'm visiting from Australia and I went to Ericka's Eck last night and it was amazing! I ordered a Wien schnitzel and it's the biggest schnitzel that I've ever seen!! It was delicious. I discovered this restaurant thanks to their Instagram video about rasierte Ärschlocher. 😂 10/10 would go again.

A must-do if you're in Hamburg. And especially if you live here. Good food, super friendly service, and: If you can't find a taxi late at night (keyword: Christmas party season in Hamburg), you're guaranteed to meet a taxi driver on a coffee break who'll give you a ride afterward. Win-win.

I've been there several times now and have never been disappointed. The food was always plentiful and delicious, and the table arrived quickly, even when it was busy. Since the change of management a while ago, they also accept card payments.

Wir haben das Restaurant schon vor Jahren besucht. Inzwischen gibt es neue Betreiber. Wir hatten wieder ein tolles Abendessen. Die locker Atmosphäre, die unverkrampfte Freundlichkeit und nicht zuletzt das gute Essen, machen aus dem Abendessen ein Erlebnis. Man sollte reservieren, der Andrang ist groß.

We, "Die luftgekühlten aus Hardert e.V." [a VW Beetle Club from Neuwied near Koblenz], were visiting Hamburg from September 30th to October 3rd, 2022, and of course, paying a visit to the famous "Erika's Eck" was an absolute MUST! We had, of course, made a reservation via email for Sunday, October 2nd, 2022, as a precaution! Due to some minor misplanning on our part, we arrived quite early, and of course, our table wasn't available yet! However, the manager offered to bring us drinks outside... absolutely excellent service! Then a table was set up for us to sit at until our table became available... even more superb service! We then ordered our food, which was served very quickly and in a friendly manner! The food and drinks are absolutely delicious and tasty! The portions are huge and truly delicious! The price/performance ratio here is 100% perfect! We can only recommend "Erika's Eck," and anyone visiting Hamburg should definitely visit "Erika's Eck." Very, very friendly and attentive staff, delicious food, and good drinks [Ratsherrn Rot beer with cola... delicious]! We give it full marks... er, stars, and if there were more, we would give them too! Absolutely top-notch! We felt very comfortable and will definitely return to "Erika's Eck" on our next visit to Hamburg!

We also tested this place because we used to have it from a blog. So we went there with expectations, but everything was more than sobering. I can only speak for the schnitzels here. Listed at approximately 250g. Of this, max 130g-150g of meat. The rest is breading that was fried too short and not hot enough. It was only cross on the edge, the rest was soaked with fat. Too bad, this ruins it. Next, seasoning, well, meat and probably the egg breading could have had a little more flavor. I'm not a trained cook myself, but my schnitzels are way tastier. I won't be a fan of yours. The vegetables, i.e. the Leipziger Allerlei, had zero taste. Warming it up in salt water or refining it with a little fondor would be another point. The dressing for the salad was good. But unfortunately not the main courses. Even the small handful of fried potatoes was not enough. Maybe the chef has a bad day or is listless with the throughput, but the quality and taste shouldn't suffer. At just under 20eu per dish, it should be fine. P.S. Adjust the prices on the website, they don't match the ones on site.

If you just want to fill up and feel cold, this is the right place for you. It's impressive how much indifference can be felt in a single visit to a restaurant. You go out to eat, not with excessive expectations, but simply with the desire to have a warm meal in a reasonably pleasant environment. That was obviously asking too much. The food was… there. Not bad enough to complain about - but not good enough to talk about either. You have eaten. Not more. No enjoyment, no joy. But at least you've had your fill. What really sticks is the feeling of just not being welcome. 30 minutes at the table without anyone even raising their eyes – that was the beginning. Afterwards: a table full of used dishes that were consistently ignored as if they would dissolve on their own. When we sat down - cold - at another place, we were informed that the table would no longer be wiped down. An explanation, no regrets. No action. You have to put in so much effort to make guests feel like their presence is a nuisance. This restaurant manages to leave you wondering whether you were expecting too much. But no – a minimum level of attention and respect is not an excessive demand. And that's exactly what was missing here. It's a shame about the time, money and energy that was wasted there. Never again. And I honestly hope that no one who values ​​hospitality has to go through the same experience.

Old cult location where I enjoyed visiting as a student in the 80s. The special status has not changed to this day. I like to go there for breakfast. You can get two half rolls with roast beef and scrambled eggs as well as a pot of coffee for €5.60. Quality is simply top. At the bakery you pay twice as much and you don't get the same quality, but the classic cuisine from farmer's breakfasts to schnitzel and roulades doesn't leave much to be desired. It's definitely worth taking a look at the lunch menu. The opening times on Saturday weekends are entirely geared towards the scene. From 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. warm food. For some brave warriors who have done a little too much for the good, they go to Erika at escape speed to gain a little traction. Definitely visit. Check the times online beforehand because of course the boys need a bit of rest every now and then. I wish you a lot of fun with Erika.

Every time I'm in Hamburg, Erika's Eck is a must. Great atmosphere and the food tastes really good. A must for people who want to eat well and yet love culture and tradition.
