Engelbecken - best schnitzel in Berlin

Arrived to a place and a waiter sit other pair of people who were after us in the queue first. Never coming back

Engelbecken offers a menu that offers a successful insight into modern and seasonal German cuisine. Unfortunately, the high prices don't quite reflect the quality and taste of the dishes. The service was okay, but a little more commitment would have been appreciated.

I've been visiting this restaurant for a few years now, and I can honestly say that my companions and I always enjoy the food – from appetizers to main courses to dessert 😋 Everything is delicious 😋 A bit on the high side, but worth it 😌 I definitely recommend reserving a table. In the summer, or when the weather permits, you can also sit outside.

The food was delicious, and the service was friendly and attentive. There are "reserved" signs on the tables outside, but a quick check with the staff is enough. However, it's not always very comfortable on the sidewalk.

Nice decor, quiet ambience - lots of older guests. Unfortunately the price-performance ratio is not right. Unfortunately, the fish dish we ordered (Angermünder Zander) didn't taste good: there wasn't enough sauce, it was too bland, it lacked acidity (there wasn't even a small lemon on the plate). The asparagus risotto was also disappointing as it was too slimy and runny, making the meal overall unpleasant. Therefore unfortunately only rated with 3 stars. A better balance of the amount of sauce and a more delicate preparation of the risotto would significantly improve the dish. A small slice of lemon to accompany the pike-perch fillet would also have been desirable.

Ein großes Dankeschön a das gesamte Team vom Engelbecken / Enzian! Wir hatten einen wunderbaren Abend mit mir wichtigen Entscheidern und Partner im Enzian! Das Menü war perfekt zusammengestellt, die Weine dazu passend gewählt, der Service aufmerksam und sympathisch! Alle waren begeistert und ich als Gastgeber mehr als zufrieden! Das waren 11 von 10 Punkten- Hut ab! Ihr seid einfach klasse! Und ich sehr froh seit 21 Jahren Euer Gast zu sein! Weiter so!!!

Very good food, friendly, attentive service, beautifully renovated dining rooms, and remarkably good acoustics: Even when the restaurant is full, you can have a good conversation at the table without having to speak particularly loudly.

Hier war es früher jeden Tag voll und selbst die Nachbarn mussten reservieren. Jetzt haben sich die Zeiten und die Preise geändert. Die Freundlichkeit des Personals ist zum Glück geblieben. Wir hatten einen feinen isländischen Rotbarsch (ambitionierte 24 Euro) und ein Backhendl (teure 22 Euro), die hübsch dekoriert mit Erdäpfeln und Salat serviert wurden. Die Halbe Tegernseer Bier kostet inzwischen soviel wie in Münchens teuerstem Stadtviertel Bogenhausen (5,20), schmeckt aber zum Glück genauso gut. Es war ein schöner Abend im Engelbecken, aber wegen der Preise kommen wir halt nur noch einmal im Jahr, siehe erste Zeile.

Best southern German - Austrian guesthouse cuisine and best family-casual service in Berlin. If the angel pool didn't already exist, it would have to be reinvented.

Went there in the summer and got seating outside. The place is very popular so booking is recommended. We shared the other half of our table with a stranger because seating is hard to find. Sophisticated casual crowd.

An absolute “insider” tip (or no longer) in Charlottenburg. Bavarian-Austrian (Alpine) home cooking at its best. Fully packed to the last seat when we were there. Don't forget to reserve. Great location by the lake.

Quiet atmosphere to relax and drink a coffee.

The duck was excellent. You can share it, which is only says on the german menu. The beers were amazing, 3 vegetarian options including one vegan one. Deserts were not bad

Again and again: Such lovely evenings here, the food is excellent, everything is prepared independently and so elaborately. The “hosts” (the people who work there) are extremely friendly and accommodating. Serge Pasang deserves special mention with his unbeatable sense of humor! Always attentive, for example when it comes to orders, but so pointed with his unobtrusive wit and flashes of inspiration that the evening always ends happily. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Always happy, the food and service are just right and the atmosphere is very pleasant.

We (4 people) had our Christmas party in the angel pool like every year. We always order a goose. This was perfectly cooked and very tasty. We also really enjoyed the side dishes (red cabbage, kale and two types of dumplings with sauce). Serge served us. He was very friendly, funny and created a good atmosphere. We were just a little surprised about the bill. The price is now €49 per person and since the supplements could be reordered cost-free last time, they have now all been charged extra. Given the high basic price, we found this a bit petty. Nevertheless, a clear recommendation for the angel pool.

Ich durfte Teil einer Feier als geschlossene Gesellschaft im Enzian sein. Die Location war für die Personenanzahl perfekt. Wir waren zum ersten Mal hier im Engelbecken, nachdem uns das Restaurant empfohlen wurde. Wir hatten die vegetarische Vorspeise, als Hauptgerichte Zander und weitere vegetarische Hauptgerichte. Wir waren begeistert! Überzeugend war ebenfalls unser französischer Kellner Serge. So eine aufmerksame, freundliche Servicekraft haben wir in Berlin selten erlebt. Wir kommen wieder! The food is delicious, nothing to complain about, unfortunately the look of the “goulash” on the plate itself doesn’t look very good, the waitresses are nice and cheerful! Overall I would come back here.

Wir hatten versucht einen Tisch im Restaurant zu bekommen und konnten nur draußen sitzen, da innen alles ausgebucht sein sollte. Während unseres Aufenthaltes waren bis zu vier Tische im Restaurant unbesetzt. Für uns ist das wirklich traurig, da es zeigt, dass da jemand nicht auf die Bedürfnisse der Göste eingehen möchte.

My Schnitzel was dry and the meat extremely thin and tasteless. The online picture shows that it should have been accompanied by a sauce I did not get. I picked this restaurant because of its good reviews. The compromised food quality and overcharge on vegetables were most likely because I did not speak German. They charged me 9.5 Euros extra for two small extra vegetables. The other meat dish with the same number of vegetables was only two euros more expensive than the one I picked. The waiter wanted to take the remainder of the money without giving back the change. The change was more than the tip I was going to leave. When asked she did not give me a small change and I had to ask again. As a tourist I felt cheated and the experience was unpleasant.

Great! Had an amazing evening even though we were only able to book short notice. Can only recommend.

Excellent quality food, well presented and with beautiful flavours. A wide choice of dishes that change on a daily basis so never boring or repetitive. It's a pleasure to visit as there will always be something new to try on the menu. The most friendly staff. One cannot say they have tried Berlin cuisine without visiting Engelbecken. Congratulations!

Nach längerer Zeit (warum fragen wir uns) endlich mal wieder im Engelbecken reserviert. Freundliche Begrüßung! Tisch wie bestellt im angenehm eingerichtetem Restaurant. Der Service war sehr aufmerksam und zugewandt. Wir aßen diesmal vegetarisch und waren von der Qualität und optischen Präsentation sehr angetan, Ungewöhnlich die saisonalen Tomaten-Kreationen. Absolute Empfehlung!

A nice, down-to-earth restaurant with very good cuisine. It is not a star restaurant, so there are no excessive decorations or tiny portions. There are freshly cooked dishes from local cuisine (German-Austrian). So Wiener Schnitzel with potato salad, roast pork with coleslaw and crust. The breading on the schnitzel could have risen a little better, the sauce on the roast pork tasted a bit like a sauce thickener, but overall everything was of good quality. The service was nice, fast and friendly and our various special requests (5 people) were also correctly taken into account. We had a nice time sitting outside and would love to come back.

Very nice service. I had a very tasty veal schnitzel with fried potatoes. Parking situation a bit difficult. Nice view of a park. Exceptional beer. We sat outside on a bench. We were immediately offered blankets because it wasn't that warm in the evening.

On a warm summer evening we had dinner there after a 5-hour drive. Organic beef boiled beef and the Wiener Schnitzel were excellent. The staff was very, very friendly and attentive. Price-performance are balanced. We had a very, very nice evening.

Probably after a generational change in the restaurant and 22 years of eating here, everything is no longer as fantastic as it always was. The cucumber and potato salad doesn't really taste good anymore; The schnitzel now lacks any flavor and the great vegetarian starter platter is not only very reduced but also squeezed onto a small rectangular plate so that you can't even eat it with your eyes. The other dishes on the menu also used to have more flair and a special taste. The salad, however, is still the best you can order in a restaurant! Unfortunately, it's no fun that you can't even reserve a table for eight people (on a Wednesday evening) eight days in advance. Eight people were too many at once. When we are there, the staff are generally friendly as ever.

Service (the standard is very low in Berlin anyway), atmosphere, right down to the food, was good. I think the design of the restaurant is the best thing about the Engel Becken. But it was all very traditional and there was just a little bit of perfection missing (in every course) to say that it was something special. I have to say, I didn't try the schnitzel but we ordered other dishes that evening. Maybe the schnitzel really is the best here.

Ich war gestern zum Essen dort, Tegernseer Brauhaus ist der slogan und habe mir ein Backhendl bestellt. 16,80 € hab ich gedacht, ok. bekommen habe ich ein Stück panierte Hähnchenbrust, ca 100 gramm. An allen anderen tischen sahen die Portionen allerdings gut aus. Die Bedienung war zauberhaft. Der Tellerbote, wahrscheinlich der Chef eher unverbindlich.

A big plus point was the cleanliness of the toilets, which were always in immaculate condition. The food was OK, but not outstanding. I've eaten better and the quality of the food could be improved. Still, the selection was acceptable and there were some good options. A particular highlight was the service. Our waiter was incredibly funny and knew exactly what he was doing. He served us very well and created a pleasant atmosphere. His friendly and professional manner significantly enhanced the visit and made us laugh. Overall, the visit to the restaurant was satisfactory. The excellent cleanliness of the toilets and the excellent service from the waiter made up for any small deficiencies in the food. I would recommend the restaurant because of the great service and clean environment and would happily come back.

I work not far from this restaurant in a cafe. My parents came to Berlin for the first time and wanted a typical German restaurant, several customers of my café recommended this restaurant to me and it was an incredible surprise!! Very friendly atmosphere, very very good quality dishes at affordable prices. Our experience was enhanced by Serge's kindness, we had a lot of laughs with him, I hope you will have the chance to meet him too! I will go back soon I think!

Staff is rude and arrogant, after complaining that we wait for 40 min for starter, he responds that we waited ONLY for 32 min. No sorry, no excuse. That's the attitude.

Nice pub character, very nice and attentive service, food quantity ok, quality good, prices peppered. Sometimes very loud inside when small children are playing. Dessert “Bavarian Cream” (a really small bowl -handful) for 9.50 euros, ugh. The bill for four people (no starter, one main course, one drink and only one dessert for everyone to share >>> 130 euros without tip).

Das Ambiente ist ganz schön und der Service durch die jungen Damen aufmerksam und zügig. Ärgerlich ist aber, dass an einem Samstag sowohl das Schweineschnitzel als auch der Krustenbraten aus ist. Das darf einer solchen Gastronomie nicht passieren. Für einen rote Beetesalat mit Feldsalat 11,50 € zu verlangen, bei dem die rote Beete, meiner Meinung nach, ein Convenienceprodukt ist, finde ich überzogen. Das kleine Kalbsschnitzel mit einem Löffel Kartoffelsalat 22,00 € zu verlangen, macht die Sache nicht besser. Wer viel Geld ausgeben möchte für vermeintlich wenig Gegenleistung ist hier richtig.

It's a shame, I still know you from your time in Kreuzberg, your service and especially the food were always good there. Unfortunately, our last visit was more than disappointing. We were supposed to wait at the counter for our reserved table, no problem, but we stood at the counter between tablets with cleared glasses and in the way of the service staff. We weren't offered a drink here at first. The quality of the food was sobering, a roast without a crust, roughly chopped red cabbage, the large Wienerschnitzel consisted of 3 small parts, with a small dollop of potato salad. I really hope that this is just a blip and not a new found thrift.
