Nice big beer garden, friendly staff, delicious food

We were in the beer garden, where we enjoyed delicious classics and new interpretations. We sometimes had to wait a bit longer for our drinks, but overall the service was good and very courteous. We'd be happy to come back.

We went there two weeks ago on a Sunday for the second time. Everything was great the first time, but on the Sunday we were there, we waited 1.5 hours for our food. The fries were too hard, the chicken in the salad was raw, and the salad dressing was very bland, all due to a lack of staff. Even the mayo we ordered never arrived. It's a shame, we were so happy the first time. Better to leave the place before something like this happens.

Very tasty - a must in this region!🌟

Initially, after the takeover, the restaurant was a truly beautiful place with delicious food. However, the quality has since declined significantly: the dishes (schnitzel and fries) were completely oversalted, and the wait times for service were disproportionately long, even when the restaurant was empty. We had to ask for a table several times, and were left high and dry in between. I was also rudely greeted on the phone, told that there were no more tables available, even though the restaurant was completely empty the next day. That's how you scare away guests—we won't be coming back. What a shame.

Unfortunately, we can only give three stars. We were looking forward to our visit, but were disappointed in several aspects. The service staff was consistently very friendly, which we would like to highlight positively. However, I had to wait about 45 minutes for my drink, which unfortunately made the start a bit unpleasant. We were also initially brought the wrong food, which was promptly replaced, but took another 20 minutes. The bread basket was also forgotten – a small item to serve, but still noticeable. We know that everyday life in the restaurant industry can be busy, but we would like this feedback to be understood as constructive. Perhaps it was simply a slightly unfortunate day.

Cult gastronomy, celebrated in many Cologne songs. The food: Tradition and unusual modern cuisine are skillfully combined. Very, very delicious! And there's a lot of beetroot... I love it.

Food is very exceptional, a little too expensive...but definitely worth it

Our class and I booked our 50th graduation party months in advance, and they canceled two days before the event, arguing that we hadn't sent an email confirmation. That wasn't true. At least the manager treated us to a keg as an apology and recommended an alternative at a different restaurant. Very unpleasant and a shame.

We were here again after many years...and were very pleased with the friendly welcome. Food and drinks very good.

We celebrated our child's communion at this wonderful restaurant and are absolutely thrilled! The half-timbered house, directly across from the church, gives the place a charming, historic character, perfect for a special occasion. The location is fantastic – we were able to enjoy mass in the church and then continue celebrating in the cozy atmosphere of the restaurant without having to go far. The ambiance is warm and inviting, and the entire team is extremely friendly and accommodating. The owner goes out of his way to accommodate guests' wishes: He accommodated our requests, suggested his own ideas when we were unsure what would be better, and tailored everything perfectly to our needs. The table was already set, so we didn't have to bring anything, and we were allowed to bring our cake the day before – this made the process much easier. We especially loved being able to take family photos in the courtyard, which made the day even more unforgettable. The food was excellent – ​​all in all, we were extremely satisfied and would celebrate communion there again anytime. This venue is highly recommended for celebrations and special occasions: charming, centrally located, with a unique atmosphere and excellent service. We are grateful for the wonderful memories we were able to create here!

A wonderful old half-timbered house with a lovely beer garden. A quaint inn with a restaurant that's well worth a visit: traditional home cooking with a contemporary twist. Delicious, fresh, and homemade (even the hollandaise sauce was)!

I'm a regular guest at Em Ahle Kohberg and I'm always impressed, starting with the ambiance (very nice beer garden, rustic dining rooms), the extremely friendly and accommodating Kohberg team, but also with what really matters when visiting a restaurant: good food, good drinks, and the feeling of being welcomed as a guest. Tastes differ, but everything I've eaten there so far has been beautifully presented and meticulously prepared, and it was always simply delicious. That was also the reason I decided to celebrate a milestone birthday there with a larger group, and it was simply fantastic! It was a completely worry-free package, and everything just worked out perfectly. Starting with the planning, where Lars imaginatively contributed his experience and never overpromised me! The food was amazing again, and not only I myself, but also my guests, including a few who had never been to Kohberg before, were all very impressed! A thoroughly successful celebration! Therefore, I'm happy to give it 5 stars!

Last night I was there for the third time and sat in the beer garden for the first time. The ventilation (apparently an extractor hood) in the kitchen was so loud that it could only be described as annoying. What surprises me is that I have read this in various reviews, even over a longer period of time, but nothing has been improved yet. The service was friendly and accommodating. We were only made aware of the asparagus dishes when we asked after we had already eaten the starter. There was no note about this on the map and there was no other information either. The food was very tasty and well prepared. The portions could be a little larger. The drink prices are absolutely fair.

We hosted a celebration for Em ahle Kohberg with 25 people. Not only we, but also our guests were thrilled by the excellent quality of the food, the cozy room and the professional and very friendly staff. You notice in everything that you should feel good - and that works. Very happy again!

About the ambience: The restaurant has never been so stylish and cozy, it really worked out really well! About the menu: It was a shame that we were told right at the beginning that there were unfortunately no longer three dishes. And that already at 6.30 p.m. on a Friday evening. Another small negative point is that the monthly offers for February were still on display on March 7th. About the food: The bouillabaisse was absolutely convincing for me, both in terms of taste and price, very spicy and with enough delicious ingredients, great! I also have positive memories of the potato gratin, which, however, was served with a bit of cucumber-heavy roulades and savoy cabbage, which didn't quite taste convincing. I can also comment on 3 small potato pancakes with smoked salmon as a starter and apple crumble as a dessert. Both solid, but priced a bit high. On a positive note, when I asked for the pancakes with salmon, the very friendly service staff immediately gave me some sour cream :) Conclusion: We will definitely not have been to "Em ahle Kohberg" for the last time and we are very happy that there is now such a nice restaurant nearby again 👍!

Spontaneous and first visit today with our one-year-old child. We were extremely positively surprised by the gastronomic conditions in Merheim. The menu is clearly laid out and offers an appealing selection. The food was very tasty and there was nothing to complain about. The ambience of the restaurant is a successful mix of a cozy, rustic atmosphere and modern design. Staff is friendly, relaxed, courteous and flexible. Even with a small child, we felt very comfortable and well looked after here.

I was super happy with my visit here. The food was really tasty, fresh and beautifully prepared. I was particularly blown away by the “Stramme Lars” and the starters! The service was friendly and quick, you felt completely at home. The atmosphere is totally cozy, perfect for a relaxed evening. The price-performance ratio is absolutely fair for the quality on offer, as they really value regionality and you can taste it. I can only recommend the restaurant and will definitely come back!

Well... restarting the restaurant doesn't look promising! Waiter ok but not anymore. Food relatively expensive. Schnitzel at 28 euros....breading light and tasteless fried potatoes from the deep fryer! “Enjoying” Cologne tapas one visit before is almost ridiculous! The simplest sausage platter with a small baked pretzel (over 19 euros). There won't be a third time for us!

Highly recommended! We were there with the staff and there was initially a great selection of starters and then a varied buffet. The quality of the food was great! Large selection of drinks, great wines! The waitress was really very friendly and attentive! We then spent the evening comfortably in the beer garden. We were invited to a wedding party here. That was the first time we visited this restaurant. I am more than thrilled with the location and the owner team. The entire service is extremely friendly and accommodating. The food was of top quality and very nicely prepared.

Finally been there again since the change of tenant. The beer garden is very nicely decorated. The Cologne dish “Himmel un Ääd” was very well prepared and tasted very good. Much worse in some breweries. The second dish was also very good and tasty. Staff is very attentive and friendly. I can highly recommend it, we will come back.

I recently visited the "Em Ahle Kohberg" with a friend and we were very impressed! The menu is very diverse and offers something to suit every taste. The food was consistently delicious and prepared with obvious care. We were particularly impressed by the wonderful beer garden, where we were able to enjoy the beautiful weather and the relaxed atmosphere. The service was extremely attentive and friendly, we felt really well looked after. It's the little details that make the difference, and here you can clearly see that the work is done with a lot of love for the guest. All in all, our visit to "Em Ahle Kohberg" was a thoroughly successful experience that we would be happy to repeat. Highly recommended

Sat outside, the ambience and location was nice, the Kölsch was unfortunately warm. We ate tagliatelle with strips of pork fillet, which unfortunately didn't taste good at all; heavy, very creamy sauce, prepared without any cooking skill. The noodles are too hard and still sticky. Unacceptable for the price. It's a shame, that was it for us.

We were at Ahle Koberg again with 27 people, a slightly larger group. From the nice welcome, the beautifully set tables, the really great and always attentive service, the very tasty house wines and the great food, everything was really great and all at very fair prices. The flexibility of the kitchen with regard to special requests is also absolutely top. Thank you from everyone for a very, very nice evening. And also thank you for your patience because the last ones just didn't want to leave. Finally a very good restaurant destination in Merheim again.

We visited the beer garden, which was well filled due to the great weather. It quickly became clear that this would take time. Because the staff was scarce. So you waited ten minutes until you could at least order. The first round of drinks came after more than 20 minutes and half of them were wrong, so back. It would be naive to believe that the right thing would just happen. Instead, the waiter simply found someone else for the drinks and that was it. This pattern repeated itself. The drinks were brought out by apparently the only non-student assistant (the boss?), who on several occasions had no idea what to do with the drinks and gave them to the first person who raised his hand. So my wheat beer obviously went to another table. The guy only responded to my protest with an outrageous comment. The result was that after 3/4 of an hour the food came without me having seen a drink until then. Only when we refused to accept the food was it delivered. In contrast to the alleged boss, the students really tried hard. But there were simply too few and the organization wasn't right. With all due respect for peak times: In such cases it is better to send new guests away than to annoy them so much.

One of the best restaurants in the area! Friendly and attentive, young team 👍, cozy atmosphere, menu that offers more and nothing mainstream and therefore stands out! Besides local drinks, Bud on tap and nice wines! Just as good outside as inside! Outside you can also explore a surprisingly attractive environment.

We have been coming here for decades and have experienced many changes in operator. We were happy about the latest reopening. Our high expectations were met: the team is well-coordinated, the staff is attentive, the food was really tasty, the wine was ok, but we'll have to get to know the wine list better soon. After a long time, the koberg is back and it's worth coming by, but you should be hungry, I had a starter of green asparagus salad and then beef goulash with potato dumplings and then they could roll me home.

The "Kohberg" is beautifully furnished with pleasant indirect lighting. When I was there with my friends, it was pretty full, almost all the tables were occupied. However, that made it quite loud. The service was very friendly, but after eating we were only asked once if we wanted to order anything else, so we were left high and dry at some point. About the food: we were all very impressed with the food. I had the eggplant cordon bleu with mashed potatoes and thought it was really tasty! Only the cucumber salad could have used a little more spice in my opinion. I then helped myself with some salt and pepper. My friend let me try the beetroot ravioli and I also found it very good. Overall it was a successful evening and we will definitely be back.

A nice, quaint restaurant. The menu invites you to try it. The dishes were delicious and served attractively. The restaurant has opened under new management. When it came to service, we had the feeling that little things were missing. For example, we were not made aware of the weekly menu. The contact was generally a bit quick and rushed. But the new team will definitely settle in and the restaurant is definitely worth a visit. We will come back and try the other dishes.

The three of us were there on Sunday evening and had the Wiener Schnitzel twice and the rump steak (sous vide) once. The food was excellent: good portions, attractively prepared and very tasty. One reviewer complained that the schnitzel was too thin: This is what an authentic Viennese schnitzel should look like: Thin with an airy, wavy breading. The steak was buttery soft. The service was great, Aaron served us really well. The atmosphere was also cozy, we sat in the back, separate part of the restaurant. Price/performance was perfectly fine and the visit was worth every cent. We come from Cologne Downtown/Südstadt and will definitely come back.

Uns gefällt es dort ziemlich gut ;) Der Service ist sehr freundlich und auf Zack, die Räumlichkeiten sind gemütlich und gepflegt. Das Essen sehr fein! Wir freuen uns für Merheim und wünschen den Inhabern weiterhin viel Freude und Erfolg!

Der traditionsreiche Kohberg glänzt in neuem Schein. Sehr schön eingerichtetes Restaurant mit viel Liebe zum Detail. Die Speisekarte ist bestückt mit Klassikern als auch mit modernen neuen Interpretationen von Gerichten. Hier wird gewiss jeder fündig und bekommt leckere Speisen zu fairen Preisen. Auch die Servicekräfte sind aufmerksam und bedienen die Gäste von der ersten Minute an herzlich. Wir kommen gerne wieder!

Der Ahle Kohberg ist sehr gemütlich eingerichtet und die Speisen haben mich stets überzeugt. Der Service ist sehr freundlich. Zusammengefasst ist der Ahle Kohberg immer einen Besuch wert und rechtsrheinisch wieder eine große Bereicherung.

Urgemütliches Restaurant mit erfrischend mutiger Küche. Das Auberginen-Cordon Bleu mit Blaubeer-Jus sollte man mindestens einmal gegessen haben. Absolute Empfehlung!

Der Spagat zwischen gut Bürgerlich und gehobener Küche und der ist absolut gelungen ! ! ! ich wünsche den neuen Pächtern alles gute und hoffe Sie können den Spirit,das Ambiente,das Essen und den Kohberg mit diesem neuem Weg noch viele viele Jahre ,ihren Gästen eine Freude bereiten !

Freundlicher und guter Service kombiniert mit einer sehr leckeren Küche :) Der Gastraum ist gemütlich und leicht "Urig" gestaltet. Man fühlt sich von Anfang an wohl und gut versorgt:) Die Speisekarte ist nicht übertrieben voll und jeder findet, meiner Meinung nach, etwas nach dem eigenen Geschmack:) Preislich sehr fair. Wir kommen definitiv wieder und freuen uns schon sehr auf die Eröffnung des Biergartens:)

Das Essen war OK. Die Dorade gut. Beilagen so lala. Aber die anderen Gericht waren nichts besonderes. Das bestellte Bayerische Helle Bier kam nicht, sondern ein anderes.

Ich war diese Woche zum vorgezogenen Weihnachtsessen mit meiner Freundin und meiner Mum da. Wir wurden freundlich begrüßt und bekamen unseren Tisch im wirklich schön gestalteten Restaurant. Die jungen Kellner waren super freundlich und bemüht. Es wurde mehrfach gefragt ob alles in Ordnung ist. Wir hatten jeder eine Vorspeise, Hauptgang und Dessert und es war durch die Bank weg alles super. Mein persönliches Highlight war der "stramme Lars", welcher eine wirklich großartige Interpretation eines strammen Max ist. Alles war frisch, toll abgeschmeckt und wir sind vom Essen auch zwei Tage später noch sehr am schwärmen. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder!
