Very quaint restaurant, funny, friendly service, no fancy food, down-to-earth, average cuisine

German food options, that are good overall. However, could be better when compared to other traditional restaurants, but overall satisfying, depending on what you get it’s great or just good. Waiters seem to be annoyed and we’re not very friendly in my opinion. We almost felt ignored. The Ambiente is classical bug its very tiny and very very dark, which should be known beforehand.

Lazy and disgusting personnel (only the white bearded old guy was nice). He told me that I could order food before the kitchen closes (10 mins). After less than 30 seconds, two sad tvvats from the restaurant started hurrying me up, not letting me read the menu, speaking German and laughing sarcastically to eachother and even saying "the kitchen is closed". I double checked this with the first and only cool guy in the place and he repeated "the kitchen is still open". The other two lazy losers kept on hurrying me, so I decided to go to a better place without id!0ts. PS: What a pair of cuck0lds, bolas tristes.

True German food, first meal while visiting Berlin. We had a rather large group, and we're able to enjoy a set menu to enjoy to get a taste of the food. The asparagus soup was interesting, something I wouldn't have tried before it was delicious.

The waiter who served us forced us to tip 10%. He refused to accept the tip we wanted to give him and claimed that in Germany you always HAVE to give 10%. The bill was 59 euros and we wanted to tip 5 euros. While we were still eating, he took away the sauce and wanted to clear our plates. We told him three times that we were still eating. Furthermore, he didn't bring me the beer that I had also ordered. I have been living in Germany for 6 years and have never experienced anything like this. After a year I visited this restaurant again, but now I have lost my regular restaurant. I would NOT recommend it to tourists

Nice atmosphere and good service. However, the portions of the cheese spaetzle were far too small for the price and the currywurst was not of high quality. It shouldn't be the case that water is more expensive than beer

Typical Berlin cuisine. We ate beer and some heavily seasoned meat dishes. The staff's customer service is good and the interior decoration is nice.

Great service and really good traditional German food with generous portions. We did notice that the most generous pours were from the men of the bar. If the one woman poured it she poured about 3/4 of what you would normally get. She was the “time czar”. Kept saying we only have two hours. Avoid her. Other than that great place to visit.

I have never experienced such unfriendly and disgraceful treatment! There were three of us and we arrived around 8:30pm without a reservation. We were assigned a table, but as soon as we were seated we were immediately rushed into ordering something to drink. When I took a moment to look at the map, I was already impatiently and rudely reprimanded. After the drinks were served, the innkeeper asked for our food order. We explained that we had already eaten and had just come for drinks. He then reacted extremely aggressively, insisting that ordering food was a prerequisite for the stay and claiming that we had already agreed to this when we arrived - which was definitely not the case. It was made clear to us that we had to finish our drinks immediately and leave the restaurant, even though there were still enough seats available (both at the bar and at tables). Less than a minute later the bill arrived, which we paid immediately. While the tea was still brewing, we were asked to leave the restaurant immediately. Despite asking, we were refused a to-go cup for tea. This disrespectful behavior is unacceptable in the restaurant industry. We will never enter this restaurant again.

Oh well. There were three of us there and wanted to have a beer and tea. When the drinks come he asks what we want to eat and we say we don't want anything. Then he was suddenly really angry. That he told us that we had to eat something and we said that we wanted to eat something. None of us had heard that. Ehal, it can happen. Then the meega angrily brings the bill for the drinks (and the hot tea) that he had put out a minute before!? OK. Then we chill for a moment and drink up as quickly as we can. And after a few minutes he comes over again with a lot of stress, we have to go now. Whether I can take the tea with me or something. No. OK. So that was some unchill energy. I definitely don't want to go there anymore. You can just let the leader sit at the bar or just be friendly.

We were there with a larger group of 12 people. The organization via telephone and email was rather difficult and the service was rather unfriendly at the beginning. Food was good and atmosphere was nice.

Very good German pub/restaurant. Servers can be a bit direct or blunt, but I think this may be a cultural difference. Recommend making a reservation before hand!

Unfortunately, the restaurant has declined significantly over the years. Possibly due to cost pressure and a difficult staff situation, the meals are now served with cheaper side dishes that even untrained staff can prepare. In terms of taste, red cabbage is now a finished product for gastronomy. The Dicke Wirtin Schnitzel is served with chips instead of fried potatoes as before. The homemade cucumber salad was replaced with coleslaw (prepared product?). The schnitzel no longer has an airy breading but a greasy layer of breading which, together with the meat consistency, also gives the impression of a ready-made schnitzel. Potato dumplings in goulash are also a tasty gastronomic finished product. Of course, the increased costs for the catering industry cannot be passed on in full to the customers, otherwise the customers will stay away, but the customer also notices the cheaper use of goods and therefore saves themselves from visiting the restaurant completely instead of reducing the frequency of their visits. As always, the service is reduced but in a certain way (Berlin style) friendly.

Such unfriendly service... they give the dogs their food more kindly. If you ask about the food you get an extremely unfriendly look, luckily you still get an answer, whether you should be happy with this is another matter... disrespectful answers. The food is thrown onto the table very quickly (read: scooped from a warming plate, the mashed potatoes were even cold). It is tough and dry... the red cabbage comes from a jar and is best used as a decoration. The only positive thing I can say is that they took my wife's birthday into account (I had indicated this in advance). I give 1 star for this. Fortunately, we were outside again within half an hour.

Super cool and authentic Berlin Pub. The food is very traditional East German food and I love the selection of beers on tap. Definitely book well in advance. Look forward to returning.

Been here many times in my quest for a properly made Rolladen. Which is the only thing I've tried from the menu. They're alright but not great and sometimes quite tough. Nice pub like atmosphere which is always enjoyable. However, I don't understand the good comments about service. Because I once lived in the neighborhood I've been to this restaurant about 8 times and have never received good or friendly service. They have a small tightly packed patio which is nice in the summer.

There were several rats in the dining room. Absolutely disgusting. We told the waiter and he didn't apologize, on the contrary, he told us not to worry because there was a cat that was eating them.

NOT A SAFE PLACE!!!: We saw rats, let the waiter know and he ignored our concerns. Staff was really rude!

It seems absurd but in Berlin it is not easy to find a real German beer bar and this one (in my opinion) really is. You drink and eat very well, prices absolutely in line. Fast and friendly staff. Excellent 🍺🍻

Visitors from abroad were invited here and it was absolutely the right decision. A real Berlin original! I was impressed :) Rustic atmosphere, warm Berlin service and classic Berlin cuisine. The meatball with fried egg and red cabbage was very good and the schnitzel was nice too. Generous portions, fair prices and typical Berlin charm make the visit unforgettable. Conclusion: A must for every visit to Berlin - you'll be happy to come back here! Thanks

Horrible!!! The service was so bad we thought it was a joke! We made a reservation for 8 people at 16, they told us it’s only for two hours, then after 1h 20 min they started to practically throw us out. The food is unsanitary and bad, we even asked for a fork and they asked why. It’s not the best thing to be yelled at on new years eve. Absolutely awful!!

Only hearty food, but delicious. If you like healthy food you shouldn't go here. There is no salad as a main course. Children's meal e.g. schnitzel and fries (peas or vegetables are not available as a side dish). Anyone who goes here with their wife will have a fat landlady at home in the long term 😉. So the name says it all and in that sense it fits again.

Nice welcome and great restaurant full of all kinds of frills. We have been guests there before and were actually satisfied. This time there were some weaknesses. Starting with the dumplings and the red cabbage. Both were very convenient and I didn't eat the red cabbage either. The goose breast was very dry! I don't need a repeat!

I was there with my family for a Christmas dinner and we were surprised with several mices running around. When we told the staff, they said "it's an old house, don't worry about it, there a big cat that eats them". Although the schnitzel was nice, the behavior of the waiter was absolutely unacceptable.

Marvelous!!! The warm environment, the friendly and cordial waiters you rarely find, the food that leaves you speechless. Our new favorite place in Berlin!!! We spent a little, but considering that we ordered a starter, two main courses, a dessert and two beers each... The price was absolutely correct! Thank you very much to all the staff but especially to Sabine for the kindness and warm spontaneity she had with us throughout the evening. Book in advance and try it! Unmissable!

Unfortunately it used to be better. Today there is a pressure to eat, even at the narrow bar. The desire for the guest to consume quickly in order to have space for the next guests. Bar fully occupied at this time but only with unused reservation signs. Unrelaxed. The next table wanted to take the rest of their food with them. That's also a problem. Beer was good. One star for that.

The food here was good , offering authentic German cuisine that was both flavorful and satisfying. The ambiance inside was fantastic, with a great vibe that made the experience enjoyable. However, I did feel that the service could have been more welcoming!

Do not come here expecting any warm or nice service. The food is pretty average Bavarian affair. Avoid due to bad service The low rating is due to he service both waiters were very rude. Rude on entry, and especially if not big enough tip they become a completely different person. Made us feel rushed, shrugging, huffing, getting angry with small tip.

A really cozy and original restaurant with excellent German dishes. Very festively decorated, especially at Christmas time (you could almost say too much of everything ☺️), but that's what makes it really cozy for me personally. The service is a bit rough when it comes to ordering, but that's probably intentional (to show the tourists the typical Berlin snout). In my opinion, it's almost a bit too much of a good thing for some cellars. During several visits over the past few weeks, my companions and I have tried a lot of things on the menu and were almost always very satisfied with the dishes. I found the roulades and the meat in the goulash to be a little too dry, but that could be improved. The reference to the lack of tap water, which my pregnant sister-in-law politely asked the waitress about, left us at the entire table astonished. Likewise, an order that was taken incorrectly, which my friend still kept and ate, without any small compensation from the waiter, who apologized umpteen times and admitted his mistake. There is still a bit of room for improvement when it comes to service.

Good choice of beers, tavern atmosphere

We spontaneously visited the fat landlady on Sunday around 7.30 p.m. We asked kindly if there were places for 3. A nice gentleman gave us a table in the back behind the counter. It was a bit cramped but ok. The service person took our order and was not amused that we only wanted to eat small things. After all, around 10 euros per person for food. And drinks were added too. After we deal with that When the food was ready, the waitress told us it was only reserved for 2 hours and we had to leave now. It was just 8:30 p.m. and we had just been sitting there for an hour. I noticed this with the older gentleman, who replied that the person who seated us had forgotten that. Friendliness and hospitality are different! Since there are probably a lot of tourists in the shop, and as neighbors the service tends to be disgusting, we will probably avoid the fat landlady in the near future and go to the onion fish instead. Basically, everything could be friendlier and more guest-oriented in the area. But maybe Mr. Karsten Drees just wants LOTS OF EATERS, GUESTS THAT DON'T STAY LONG🤷‍♀️? I don't know it. Too bad.

We really liked the restaurant. The food was fresh and delicious. The menu is very appealing. The decoration and the ambience are an absolute eye-catcher. The waitresses have a real 'Berlin snout' and complete the picture perfectly. 'Running' We came on Sunday evening at 5 p.m. without a reservation and were able to get a table for 4 people for an hour. Reservation recommended.

I recently visited here with my family and unfortunately our experience was less than pleasant. We just wanted to have a drink without ordering food. But the waiter treated us extremely unfriendly and rude. After a short while we were literally escorted out because we didn't want to order any food. It was very unpleasant and disrespectful. We will certainly not visit this restaurant again and cannot recommend it.

All the waiters were very rude. I'm sorry, I'm not German, but my euros are worth the same, for they treated us so stupidly.

Old and historical place. Can go here right after a long well spent day at the nearby zoopark. Service was rude I guess they were busy and packed. But still they could be kinder. Meals were tasty prices were above average. But would go again maybe because it was nice place and meals were good. Hope service gets better. Also would be better to book before going.

I didn’t get the chance to try the food due to the poor service. When I arrived, I asked if I could be seated, but the staff member responded with an angry expression and told me I needed to wait. When I politely asked how long the wait might be, he completely ignored my question. I asked again, and his only response was, “You need to wait,” without providing any estimate. The lack of professionalism and courtesy was very disappointing.

Great unusual location with delicious food. Anytime again 🫶

Five of us were guests at the “Dicken Wirtin” on a Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. The atmosphere of the restaurant is cozy and suitable for a relaxed afternoon/evening. The food was good, the portion sizes were appropriate and the taste was authentic. Unfortunately, there were significant deficiencies in service, which severely affected our visit. The service seemed inexperienced at times, as plates were already being cleared away, even though some guests were still busy eating. What was particularly annoying was the long wait for our order, which was obviously due to a lack of communication in the service team. A real low point, however, was the handling of the reservation and the length of stay. At 5:30 p.m. – just an hour and a half after we arrived – we were told that we needed to settle as the late shift would take over from 6 p.m. A little later we were asked to leave the table by 6 p.m. because other guests were already waiting. At 5:45 p.m. we were finally unpleasantly pressured again to clear the table immediately. When we asked why we had to leave so quickly, we were told that reservations would be valid for a maximum of two hours and that this information would probably be displayed in a pop-up window when making an online reservation. However, there was nothing about this in the confirmation email. In summary: The quality of the food and the atmosphere could have left a positive impression, but the service (partially) and the unprofessional treatment of the guests left a bitter aftertaste. Clear communication regarding the reservation conditions and a more respectful treatment of guests would be urgently needed here. Overall rating: 3/5 stars – Tastes good and authentic, but the service needs to improve significantly.

The service was pretty much terrible. Firstly, the waitress who seemed angry asked us if we chose drinks and we asked to recommend a wine which is not too acidic. She recommended a rosé and than brought a glass of red wine for each of us. When she came again later, we told her that it was a red, to which she replied, that it was indeed a rosé. FYI, when we got a receipt it also said that it was a red wine. See the photo below and judge for yourself whether it’s a rosé or a red wine. Secondly, the waiters kept rushing us and saying that we only have time until 6 pm. We had to assure them multiple times we were well aware of this. After we finished our meal, at around 5:30 pm, we wanted to order a shot of local liqueur each, to which the waiter replied ‘But you know, you have to go at 6?’. The liqueurs were very good once we got them, I highly recommend the rhubarb and the hazelnut one. The bill was given to us together with the liqueurs, however we did not ask for it yet.

Absolutely loved it here! Last time I went was 20 years ago. It is now so popular that you need to book to get a table. SO worth it. Food was authentic and delicious, ambience perfect and great service

Unfortunately the goose was very dry and the service wasn't the fastest. Beer lasts forever. Time window only 2 hours.

We are in Berlin once a year and then visiting the fat landlady is an absolute must. The food is good German bourgeois cuisine and the ambience is a Berlin restaurant. There probably aren't many of them left. But Iris is particularly noteworthy with her warm, rough Berlin manner. Without her, the fat landlady would probably only be half as good. Oh yes, we will probably remember the Ratzeputz for a long time 😂 We will be back next year in November.

No trip to Berlin is complete without a meal here.

Our group of 10 people have again reserved a table to eat goose leg/breast at the Fat Landlady. Unfortunately there is no comparison to the previous year. The goose leg looked gray and therefore the appearance was not that appetizing! Taste ok. Red and kale were good. The dumplings could also be used as golf balls. The cold cat was rock hard. Waiter's comment: They come from the fridge too. Too bad! Unfortunately, the very nice waitress from last year also had her day off. We will look for another location for next year.
