Here you can eat a very good Gypsy schnitzel.

Honestly, I went into the dining room with a lot of preconceived notions, and while everything is rather old-fashioned, the staff were incredibly friendly and the catfish with fried potatoes and spinach was fantastic! So, the ambiance was tough, but the food was great!

Pre-ordering is required, but that's no problem. Otherwise, everything is very good.

A rustic restaurant with friendly service and good food. We ordered Cordon Bleu for €21 (see photo). I personally would have preferred 2-3 more potatoes and a little more sauce for that price. It was a nice, modest portion, but it left you feeling full. You should also be aware that they no longer serve dessert here, as it's apparently no longer worth it, and bottled water isn't available for purchase. We were shocked by the price of table water (tap water). They actually charged us €5.80 for a 400ml glass of table water. That unfortunately put a damper on our visit. While we understand the increased prices, this is really excessive and unjustified. The restrooms were very clean.

The fried potatoes were soft, unsalted, and not really "fried potatoes," more like soft potatoes. The portions were also very small, so even someone with a good appetite wouldn't have been able to fill them up. The service was very friendly, but having to wait an hour and a half for your food isn't particularly pleasant, especially when you're hungry. It's way too expensive for the price. The atmosphere was okay, not too loud, but the outdoor seating was very uncomfortable. Sitting on wooden benches without cushions gets quite painful after a while.

The service was quite fast, and we really liked the ambiance. We're from the region and have been to this restaurant many times before and have always been satisfied. On our last visit, we had the farmer's breakfast for €14, which was quite simple and completely unseasoned, meaning it had no flavor at all; even salt and pepper didn't help. When the waiter asked us to give the dish an honest review, we were met with an irrelevant comment stating that the restaurant uses very little seasoning for health reasons. The ability to take criticism is not present here, so we will unfortunately have to find another restaurant.

There is no food available 40 minutes before closing time.

It's a good thing the world keeps turning... haha! I first went to Schnitzelkaiser about 10 years ago. I ordered the Kaiserschnitzel Karl IV... 500g. The highlight was a WHOLE cauliflower on top of the schnitzel. Thank goodness that's history. Otherwise: if you want to fill yourself up, this is the place to be! Cheers

The food and drinks were great! Truly delicious. The service was very friendly and prompt. We've been here several times and will definitely be back.

The restaurant is labeled "Alte Post," and on a bench in front is "Schnitzelkaiser." The lady serving was friendly and quite fast. The prices at this restaurant are high. First of all, if I order a bottled beer, I want it brought to the table with the bottle and poured. I also want to see that it's a Hefeweizen and not a naturally cloudy wheat beer. I had these doubts. Unfortunately, I can't recommend the farmer's breakfast, which costs a whopping €14. It looked quite nice in the pan—but that was it. The potatoes weren't properly fried, but in slightly translucent, fatty pieces. First, I had to add a good amount of salt. It was absolutely bland. There was only a minimal amount of bacon. A thin slice of pickled gherkin. There was also a cucumber salad on the side. For us, it was our first and last visit to this restaurant. That's not how you do a farmer's breakfast.

It's amazing that something like this still exists... Cozy, quaint, friendly service, and you don't need to speak a foreign language to read the menu. No unnecessary nonsense, just good German cuisine. Highly recommended.

The food at Schnitzelkaiser was good, but not particularly filling. There could have been a bit more side dishes and sauce. The schnitzel, however, was very good. The ambiance was nice, but the benches and tables in the courtyard could use some TLC. The flowers should be better cared for. The service was excellent.

We had booked a table for 6 people weeks in advance for a family weekend in Tangermünde (a gift for our parents). It was quite unusual how long it took for us to even get the menus and order drinks. The drinks arrived, and that was it. We were simply ignored. The waitress strolled over with two full wine glasses and left with two empty ones, and so on. When we asked after 40 minutes if we could place our food order, the waiter replied "yes," but that was it. After a few minutes, he finally came to our table and started ranting, "I won't let myself be pressured, or that's it." So, of course, we declined and went to the Croatian restaurant across the street, where we received a friendly welcome and were deliciously spoiled. The Schnitzelkönig is definitely not recommended.

Very unfriendly service. After asking if we could order our food, after more than 40 minutes, the waiter announced, "I won't let myself be pressured, otherwise it's over." We left. That's unbelievable, and never again. Really not recommended. We're sitting across the hall at the Croatian restaurant now, and the service is great.

We were in Tangermünde on July 28, 2025, and visited the Gasthaus zur Post for lunch. The weather allowed us to sit outside. The tables and benches are in dire need of renovation, and unfortunately, the paint was peeling all over our clothes. We ordered two schnitzel dishes for lunch. The schnitzel and French fries tasted really good. The waitress approached us and asked if everything was okay. When I commented that the lettuce was very wilted, she gave us an unexpected response: They had bought the salad at Lidl that morning, and I should have complained there and then. I was speechless. I left such unfriendly service a zero-euro tip.

A wonderfully cozy atmosphere, with remarkably high-quality ingredients, especially evident in the schnitzel variations. And the beer on offer wasn't just chosen during a commercial break; the owner has put a lot of thought into it. Hence, we'll be returning again and again, with a growing longing for great hosts, good food, and delicious beer.

If you want a truly delicious schnitzel, then you've come to the right place 😊 The service is super friendly, and the food is simply fantastic.

I ordered a schnitzel with bread, everything was OK, but the extra charge of €1.50 for a teaspoon of mustard is a bit excessive.

Six of us spontaneously came here. The nice weather allowed us to sit outside and eat. The welcome was polite and the service prompt. Menus and drinks arrived quickly, and the wait for the food wasn't long. The food was deliciously presented and plentiful. Everything was freshly prepared and nothing came from the freezer. The price/performance ratio is more than acceptable. Everything was cooked to perfection and very tasty. For six people, including drinks, under €150 is great. We'll definitely be back. Thank you for the friendly service and keep up the good work.

The restaurant has a super friendly atmosphere. For me personally, it's like a journey back in time. A good old pub. Connoisseurs know what I mean!👍😉 But objectively speaking: A restaurant with good, home-style cooking. Friendly, attentive service. Generous portions, meaning good value for money! Traditionally cozy interiors. In summer, there are also several outdoor seating areas. Four-legged guests are also well catered for, with fresh water provided. That's just my personal opinion, though... best to stop by and see for yourself. A definite recommendation from me!

Great atmosphere in a deconsecrated church, a bit unusual but very nice. The venison liver sausage wasn't quite to my taste, but the schnitzel with fried potatoes was delicious.

Hello, we were at Schnitzel Kaiser. Even though the restaurant was fairly empty, we waited an hour for our food. The schnitzel was a bit dry and the vegetables were from the freezer. Not highly recommended.

A pleasant restaurant with a focus on risotto. Prices range from €21-25/dish. The soup for €6.50 seemed expensive to me but it was asparagus and it was good.

We had to wait 40 minutes for our food, and then the schnitzel and potatoes were cold, which isn't what I'm used to. The asparagus was hot, but very woody and bitter. In short, in my opinion, the schnitzel and potatoes had to wait for the asparagus and were therefore cold.

One star is still too many. We were rudely kicked out due to a lack of staff. Maybe they shouldn't have opened in the first place. A course in etiquette would certainly have been helpful.

Unfriendly service Restaurant empty but 8 people not welcome

We would have liked to post something positive, but despite four attempts, we were unable to reserve or secure a table for four people. On our last attempt at 3:40 p.m., the response was: "Starting at 4:00 p.m., the place is packed." So we headed to the Croatian restaurant across the street, which gave us a warm welcome. On the way home, we passed the Schnitzelkönig again, but couldn't see any swans in the half-full restaurant. 😉🐻 What a shame

Experience at the Schnitzelkaiser Restaurant "Zur Post" – a clear warning A visit no one should repeat. I strongly advise against it. Yesterday, two of my aunts and I were looking forward to a delicious asparagus meal and entered the restaurant full of anticipation. Outside in the courtyard, the waitress offered us a free table by the gate to the street. We placed our orders and chatted happily. Shortly thereafter, the food was served, which was visually appealing. But at the same time, a slurry truck arrived to pump out the liquid directly next to the restaurant. This abruptly ended the pleasant atmosphere: the noise made any conversation impossible, and the pungent stench was unbearable. A conversation with the supposed boss (she acted as if she were the boss) was impossible, as we were simply ignored. We ate as quickly as possible and asked for the bill. When one of my aunts politely expressed that she would have liked gravy with the dry potatoes, the waitress refused, saying that the guests didn't want it. Shortly afterward, the manager came to our table. My other aunt politely addressed her about the disturbance caused by the slurry truck. The manager then reacted loudly and insultingly, asking what my aunt thought she was doing and claiming that no one at home spoke to her like that. She cited an alleged accident as justification. If it had been known that the slurry truck was coming soon, they could have easily offered us another table, as there were still tables available inside and on the other side – with a warning about the expected disruption. I finally stood up and went to the manager and pointed out to her that guests shouldn't be treated in that tone of voice, especially since she was addressed respectfully. I was then also shouted at and insulted, accompanied by the order: "There's the door – get out of here!" I've never experienced such unprofessional behavior in a restaurant. What's particularly tragic is that both aunts recently lost their husbands, and this day was supposed to be a wonderful one.

The schnitzel was huge and I only had the small one! Very friendly service.

It was ok, but the schnitzel didn't blow me away, and there weren't many side dishes.

The food was all delicious. The potato salad, fried potatoes, side salad, and of course the schnitzel were absolutely perfect, but there is one small criticism: the breading could have been spicier (yes, you can add more seasoning, but a little more seasoning would have been perfect), and there could also have been a bit more side dishes. I would like to add a quartered lemon to the Wiener Schnitzel in the future, as it's easier to squeeze lemon juice than a slice. The children's portion of fries at €8.00 (despite the included scoop of ice cream) is a bit steep, so they could consider a price reduction. The service was very friendly, and the atmosphere was quaint. All in all, I still recommend it. 👍

The name is quite misleading, because the restaurant is certainly not an emperor. The waitress tried her best to explain, but couldn't console us about the bland taste of the admittedly huge schnitzel. They deliberately didn't add any seasoning so that each guest could do it themselves according to their taste. Hello? You could add salt and pepper to the fried potatoes and mushrooms yourself, but it was difficult to season the schnitzel and the breading. A little bacon and onion would definitely have benefited the fried potatoes. The dish was also carelessly prepared, not a green stalk, not a piece of lettuce, nothing. And for that 21 euros, man, man, man.

The restaurant "Zur Post" is well located on the main street of Tangermünde. German food makes you hungry and schnitzel is always delicious. Inside you are transported back at least 40 years and unfortunately it still smells a lot like old smoke. But the food was good and the price was okay. Unfortunately the ambience is not my thing.

We are repeat offenders. We just like the cozy restaurant with the many different decorations. Plus, everything is so rustic and there are hardly any restaurants like this anymore. The schnitzels are simply delicious and huge. I had to have half of it packed up. We had Viennese-style schnitzel with lukewarm potato salad with bacon + onions and a gypsy schnitzel with French fries. Both schnitzels were really delicious, not too dry and well seasoned. The fries were amazing for me. Super tasty, crispy on the outside, very well seasoned and still soft on the inside. The potato salad, served lukewarm, was fine and reliable, but it didn't blow me away. What I always like here is the macaroni, which is used as a straw replacement in the Aperol Sprizz. We were served super friendly. Even later, when the restaurant was getting busier, the hard-working ladies still had a joke and a smile on their faces. If you like schnitzel and large portions, this is 100% the right place for you. We'd love to come back.

Everything was great so far, unfortunately the starter soup was only lukewarm (Soljanka) The main course was a bit weak, but everything was good, you can season it yourself 😉and the portions are mega big 👍🏿 The ambience is great if you like old-fashioned furnishings, everything was kept very dark , Staff is friendly and accommodating 👍🏿👍🏿 I can recommend it 👍🏿

Although there were no other guests there, we had to wait a long time for service. It was only after calling twice that the lady came to the table and took the order in a very unfriendly manner. Drinks were brought and simply placed on the table and asked who got which drink. Food was ok, could have been warmer. Will not visit this restaurant again. A little tip to the waitress if the job isn't fun then look for something else. That doesn't work at all

SUPER delicious schnitzels. Like at home. Everything is handmade and with a lot of love. Service is also TOP. Nice hosts who take the time to chat. The prices are really more than reasonable.
