I happened to find a video on TikTok and was totally keen to try the place out. Now, during the IFA, the opportunity arose. And what can I say... Amazing! The cheese soup. Sensational, you immediately feel like you're in the mountains in Austria. Then the Zwiebelrostbraten (onion roast), the presentations are incredibly good and also super delicious. And then there's the Kaiserschmarren (smothered pancakes). You have to eat here (but it's best to share between two people, otherwise it's really too much 😎) Overall, I can really give it 5 🌟

The schnitzel and roast beef with onions were good, but the breading could have been a bit crispier and the roast a bit more tender. Unfortunately, I was totally disappointed with the Kaiserschmarrn and the yeast dumplings. Both were too firm and too dry. I've had much better and, given the name, I naturally expected much more.

We ate Wiener Schnitzel at Schmarrnkaiser. We were nervous, but it was truly like being in Austria. Wonderful schnitzel with potato and cucumber salad at a reasonable price. The food was very good, and the restaurant is a real gem.

Nice restaurant in the market hall. The food was very good. We all thought the schnitzel was a bit dry, though. The Käsespätzle and Königsberger Klopse were very good. The Kaiserschmarren and Germknödel were also very tasty. It would be nice if the Austrian restaurant served Austrian beer, but that's just a hint. The Kozel was definitely delicious. I think we'll be back.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening at Schmarrnkaiser! The food was consistently delicious – especially the Kaiserschmarren at the end was simply fantastic: fluffy, caramelized, and prepared with lots of love. The waiter that evening was very attentive, friendly, and served us with a smile. You can tell that the food here is prepared with passion. We'll definitely be back!

We were here for a graduation party. The menu costs €65 with all-you-can-drink options. The starter and dessert were delicious, and the Kaiserschmarrn was the highlight. The main course (schnitzel) consisted of salted meat that had been aged for an unknown amount of time. The side dishes were also meager. Not my taste. (Some people had fresher meat, 50/50.) Service is fast and friendly. The ambiance is pleasant.

WEITERE KOMMENTARE IN Google

Everything was okay, but not particularly outstanding. Addendum April 2025: Unfortunately, the operators of the Schmarrnkaiser tried to have my 3-star review with the short sentence above removed by Google, which I successfully appealed against. This has never happened to me with almost 6,200 posts. Unfortunately, I now realize how this high 4.9 star rating probably came about. Therefore, below is my detailed description of my experience: The Schmarrnkaiser is an Austrian restaurant with a stand in the Arminiusmarkthalle. The outside tables are located along the outer wall facing Jonasstrasse, directly on a narrow sidewalk area. I was a guest outside after reporting to the counter inside. Despite the sunshine, it was uncomfortably chilly as all the tables were in the shade and the seating area was also in a drafty section. About 3-4 of 8 tables were occupied. Particularly noteworthy: I specifically set out to get to know this restaurant - starting from my accommodation at the Hotel Art Nouveau on Leibnizstrasse (Charlottenburg). The very good reviews and my great affinity for Austrian cuisine were decisive. assessment Service: Friendly, but delayed - probably due to the distance from the kitchen. In addition, the service was unfortunately only rarely present, especially when it came to accommodating additional drink requests. Anyone who wanted to order a second drink either had to wait a long time or take the long way back to the market hall to take action themselves - which contradicts the idea of service. Food: Wiener Schnitzel with potato and cucumber salad – solid in taste, “good”, but by no means above average or particularly memorable. Dessert: Even the world-famous Kaiserschmarrn wasn't particularly convincing - neither in terms of taste, texture or presentation. Just okay. Ambience: Cramped, uncomfortable situation on the sidewalk, no atmosphere to linger Overall, an inconsistent overall picture emerged. Accordingly, I gave it 3 out of 5 stars - a moderate rating that did justice to my perception and was free of polemical criticism. Not only am I a frequent guest at Austrian restaurants in Berlin (including four other restaurants), but I have also visited numerous Austrian cuisines internationally - my judgment is based on experience and comparability. Anomalies in reviews In retrospect, I noticed that several other guests had left critical reviews in which they saw themselves publicly discredited after publication - for example through insinuations from the operator that they had never been to the restaurant. A very insightful quote comes from another review: > "I'm a bit annoyed by the other reviews: half of them are written by people who have rated nothing else or very little - but they all give five points. Many texts are very undifferentiated praise. And these reviews were written at the same time. There are also many credible, very good reviews, but the average grade doesn't seem to be justified." I share this observation. The current rating of 4.9 stars is an absolutely outstanding average rating and extremely rare in the gastronomic sector. Since I have been eating regularly in different restaurants for years, am a trained winemaker myself and have experience in professional kitchens, I can say with conviction: This assessment clearly appears distorted. The operator's repeated reactions to critical voices as well as the striking pattern of ratings suggest that there is a certain systematic attempt to specifically optimize the rating image - and to specifically remove or discredit critical voices.

I expected to have really good food there as I am a big fan of Schnitzels. My girlfriend had talked about this place a lot, and so we went there. Unfortunately, the food really was not up to the standard. Everything tasted off, especially the schnitzel. I don't think this place is cheap, and I am fine with paying a little more for a nice schnitzel, but that was not the case here. The other reviews seem to like the food here, so it could just be an off night for them, but I am not sure if I will visit again to review.

I personally think the concept of the Arminiushalle is very cool. We came by spontaneously in the evening and got a place for 8 people. The cheese soup was top notch, perfectly seasoned and creamy. The Arminius market hall, where stalls, bars and restaurants merge, is quite quaint, cozy and very busy in the evenings. The Schmarrnkaiser's guest room consists of a platform with open curtains and lower tables in front of it on three sides. The space is quite limited. The cheese soup with croutons was good. The Wiener Schnitzel was excellent: tender veal with a loose breading, without being tough at all. Fried potatoes a bit inappropriate; Potato salad would have been better because of the interplay of cold/warm, dry/moist. I ordered a mixed salad as a starter - in southern Germany this would have been a given as a matter of course. Wheat beer is served in 0.33 l (instead of the usual 0.5 l). The Kaiserschmarrn at the end probably came from a tetra pack and was extremely firm, dry and extremely sweet. The waiter didn't ask if it was tasty and was noticeably indifferent to the rubbish criticism. I would have thought that the competition from “Hofladen” (Austrian, just 15 m opposite) would provide more incentive.

Now a more detailed feedback, after your answer to my review. I reported more detailed information to your cook after you asked. Therefore the statement "... because you cannot offer us any concrete information about your experience..." - Points of criticism: The asparagus soup was much too weak and had a coconut taste that did not appeal to us and something we have never had in an asparagus soup before. The Kaiserschmarrn was OK, but tasted a bit too much like eggs. Schnitzel/rosemary potatoes & potato soup were delicious. There was a bit of hype going around on TikTok, which made us curious, but it didn't completely convince us.

Restaurant located in the Armenius Market Hall, which usually requires a reservation due to its popularity. You can pay both in cash and by card. I came here to try the popular Kaiserschmarrn. Since we came on a Friday evening at 5 p.m. without a reservation and all the seats were fully booked but not yet occupied, we were given the opportunity to take a seat at the stand next door and buy our drinks there while still eating at the restaurant at the same time were allowed to order. Another plus point is that you are actually served at your seat. We had to wait a relatively long time for the Kaiserschmarrn itself and unfortunately it didn't taste convincing at all. You could immediately taste the excessive use of baking powder, which gave the dough an extremely metallic note. I had the feeling that all the powdered sugar was supposed to cover up this deficiency. The plum compote was only okay because it was very watery. At a price of €10.50 I would have expected an original recipe that didn't require any additional leavening agents and was therefore very disappointed.

Update... Everyone deserves a second chance in life and so today we went to the SCHMARRNKAISER in the Arminiusmarkthalle again and after this evening we would love to come back!!! The cheese soup, the gratinated goat cheese and especially the onion roast put a big smile on our faces... The food was incredibly good, the onion roast was fried to medium rare and melted like butter on the tongue. A palate orgasm across the board. A big thank you to the host and the service team!!! The service was poor, the food was consistently lukewarm and the schnitzel had more breading than anything else. There are definitely much better Austrians in Berlin. The only plus... the market hall. We won't be coming back.

Everything was fresh, not too greasy, seasoned to perfection, with fresh herbs... The service was super attentive and heartwarmingly friendly. There was a Serbian party next door with live music, which was fun but very loud. You have to be prepared for that in the Arminius Hall. Also that it is a bit drafty and cold. Vorweg: für den Geschmack des Essens würde ich sogar 6 Sterne geben. Ich hatte das Wiener Saftgulasch, und es war wirklich superzart und köstlich, einfach traumhaft! Warum also nur 3 Sterne? 1. Sorry :(

What a strange store! It is not crowded but the service does not see us. We had Schnitzel and Palatschinken. The food was acceptable, but there was nothing special about it. Unfortunately, the Schnitzel was made up of several small pieces of meat. The salad was very soupy. I'm a bit annoyed by the other reviews: Half of them are written by people who have rated nothing else or very little - but they all give five points. A lot of the text is very undifferentiated praise. And these reviews were written at the same time. There are also many credible very good reviews, but the average score doesn't seem justified.

Einfach Beste! 🤌✨

Wonderful place in the Arminius Market for fantastic Austrian food! I had the pork with seasonal white asparagus, which was sensational. Perfectly cooked, tender in every regard and lemony tasty! Our server, Sammy recommended a musketeller white wine that had hints of crisp apple. To finish, the kaiserscmarrn was out of this world. Honestly, to declare oneself king of the schmarren one really ought to back it up, this is the place!

Great evening! We sat outside and it was an incredibly delicious meal. The wine was also simply fantastic, and you get the chance to taste it first. Our main course took longer than expected, but the wonderful, friendly, and attentive service made up for it. The spinach dumplings and the Kaiserschmarrn were simply fantastic! Many thanks to the team for this wonderful evening!

The reception was typically Berlin-style, gruff, but unfortunately hardly Viennesely charming: We hadn't made a reservation, and the ladies were a bit overwhelmed with a wedding party at 5:15 p.m. That wasn't really the time for the staff to be overworked... When we promised to leave the restaurant before 7:00 p.m. and were allowed to sit down, the waitress reprimanded the 70-year-old guest for a minor awkwardness between the menu and the coat check. We chose "beef roulade like Mom's" and fried chicken bites on lamb's lettuce with crumbled feta cheese. The roulades were (of course) not freshly prepared. Rather, they seemed—about four days old—to have been heated in the microwave. The sauce was of an unprecedentedly cheesy tastelessness and consistency. It's easy to find words: it didn't even attempt to disguise its convenience-based character. The red wine listed separately on the menu as a sauce ingredient was, as the waitress informed us with a connoisseur's air, naturally (!) overcooked. The red cabbage was never allowed to have even a hint of lard or butter, which, as we all know, is what makes it a culinary experience. Overall, the dish was merely cafeteria-quality (university, not senate!). The three pieces of fried chicken were tender, the breadcrumbs thickly applied and baked to a crisp, as is traditional in Austria. The salad was "okay," but also no pinnacle of Austrian culinary art. Its extremely sparingly applied pumpkin seed oil was personally complemented by the Nussbaumer woman with a few strips of oil. How the dry chicken bites are supposed to blend with the Vogerl salad on the guest's palate remains a closely guarded secret of the Wachau region. –– The ambiance is old-fashioned, which, with skillful furnishings and details, could present itself as quaintly Austrian, but stuffy kitsch has taken over: gigantic mirrors in gilded frames, with lobsters crawling in their corners, are everywhere. A crustacean that might not exactly occupy the pride of place in Austrian cuisine, but would still be native to the country today. (Ah, back in the days, blessed Austro-Hungarian Empire, when there was still a free route from Vienna to the Adriatic...) The seating – essential for restaurants – is covered in an unpleasant dark brown plastic material, with large cracks revealing the inner workings of the foam upholstery. Between the tables, there are also high, Corona-proof glass walls – the next pandemic is sure to come, so why dismantle them? The country's typical Schrammel and zither music, a constant blast from a can, tends to distract guests rather than contribute to tranquility and enjoyment of the food. Didn't Mozart also come from this country, which is painstakingly represented culinary-wise here in Prussia by the Nussbaumer woman? We'll refrain from further visits.

Well, which of the residents who have moved here with their Bolerbü thinking has prevailed here again. Was it the Swabians again?? Or who was it? ....move from your province to a big city/capital, and then make sure that restaurants that have been around for many years before yours!!!! move into this residential area, have to close and the employees and operators are put out on the street. But then you might want to eat regularly in a street restaurant around the corner and, on top of that, prefer to sit outside. And they ensure that sections of the road are simply closed. INCREDIBLE WHAT THIS CITY HAS BECOME...MY BIRTH CITY!!! Finally move back to your province or out to the country!!! Or if you want to do something good for Berlin, this city that you want to transform, then work to keep it clean!!! THAT WOULD FINALLY BE SOMETHING MEANINGFUL FROM YOU!!! I wish you all the best for your future journey and future, dear ones from “Friedrich’s”.

Kantstrasse in the Charlottenburg district is undoubtedly not one of Berlin's most beautiful streets! It's a busy road leading toward the exhibition halls and the motorway access roads! But the area at the beginning of the street is noteworthy for its interesting buildings, which are of interest to visitors to the city: not far from the Ottenthal Restaurant is the magnificent building of the "Theater des Westens." Since 2002, it has been called the "Stage Theater des Westens," where two highly successful musicals are currently being shown: "The Nurse" and "Romeo and Juliet." There are also several notable restaurants, such as the "Paris Bar" and several Vietnamese restaurants! The "Ottenthal" has been serving its guests with excellent Austrian cuisine for over 30 years! The restaurant has 45 tables inside and another 10 seats at the bar! There are five tables outside, where you can also enjoy friendly service in nice weather! Today I chose a wine from their own vineyard: Rose Fizzanze, and for starters: creamed mushroom soup and bread with apple cheese (mashed potatoes with sour cream, salt, pepper, and white garlic!) A very good choice, as I discovered during the meal!!! For the main course, there was creamed goulash with spaetzle! I can't remember having eaten goulash like this in the past 5 years! Truly the best Austrian cuisine!!! But the big surprise came with dessert: original Kaiserschmarren!! Not from a bag, like almost everywhere else in the city! It took 20 minutes for the delicious dessert to arrive on the table! And it exceeded all my expectations!!! Very, very delicious! Every piece was a delight, because it wasn't a factory-made product, but a carefully prepared classic Austrian pastry: Kaiserschmarren, as it should be! j If you're visiting Berlin and want to enjoy Austrian cuisine after a visit to the Zoological Garden or a stroll along Kurfürstendamm, you should visit Ottenthal on Kantstrasse! And a special compliment goes to the service: our order was taken quickly and friendly, and the food arrived promptly! And that, even though the very pleasant and friendly staff member was serving 15 other guests at the same time! And the short goodbye chat was filled with great warmth! Thank you so much!!! The next visit is already planned because there are still other delicious dishes to try!
