Sissi - Restaurant & Belle Etage in Berlin

I last visited this restaurant about 15 years ago and, as a Berliner, was eager to try it again with a friend. I wasn't disappointed. The service was exceptionally attentive. Unlike many restaurants I frequent in Berlin, here the staff repeatedly and politely checked if everything was alright or if we needed anything else. Sadly, that's a rare experience these days. Add to that the truly unique and harmonious ambiance in a stylishly furnished building over a hundred years old. The chicken salad and the Wiener Schnitzel were very well prepared. The enormous wine selection and the impressive variety of distilled fruit brandies deserve special mention. I've never seen anything like it anywhere else. Definitely a plus. The only slight drawback is that they apparently don't offer draft beer. However, the various bottled beers were very tasty and more than made up for it. Overall, a very successful visit, and I'd gladly return.

At Sissi Restaurant, the schnitzel arrives at the table without any fuss – confident and steeped in tradition. The breading is thin and evenly golden brown, crispy at the first cut, revealing tender meat underneath, cooked to perfection and never dry. The balance is particularly impressive: the breading doesn't overpower, but rather frames the schnitzel subtly, allowing the meat's natural flavor to shine through. Every bite carries that familiar warmth of a classic Viennese dish – executed with precision, without exaggeration.

We had the Christmas menu. The food is freshly prepared from scratch and tastes accordingly delicious. I got the impression that they wanted to add their own personal touch to the seasoning, which isn't a problem as long as you're not expecting the absolute standard fare. The service was excellent, and they tried to cater to individual needs. The ambiance was okay. It was a bit odd having to look at a painting of a naked woman sitting on a man all evening. Unfortunately, there was no music, which definitely detracted from the atmosphere. Overall, definitely worth a visit if you appreciate good Austrian cuisine.

The food tasted okay, but it wasn't anything special. The roast duck (€36) was overpriced for what was on the plate. Just a small piece of duck meat, and the portion was very meager. The service was friendly, but we were forgotten towards the end. It was also annoying that people kept walking through the small space to smoke on the balcony. The atmosphere was generally quite noisy. The toilets were unkempt and the flush didn't work. A real shame!

The service was very pleasant, the atmosphere quite interesting, although it was very loud, which didn't bother us. The main course was average, the Kaiserschmarrn was delicious and there was a lot of it.

The seating at the company party was extremely cramped, bordering on unacceptable. I cannot recommend the goulash. The meat was cut into very large pieces and was extremely tough. It was impossible to cut it in the deep bowl with a blunt knife. Towards the end, we were chased away with a vacuum cleaner.

I don't know, I've never been there

The service was very friendly and the main courses were generally good. However, at €25.50 for two dumplings with sauce, the price-performance ratio was unfortunately not right. The Kaiserschmarrn was not fluffy and had an unusually strong eggy taste.

We had an excellent meal at Sissi, It was well worth the journey. Very unassuming restaurant from the outside, but once inside we were guided through the bar to an upstairs restaurant, which was fairly rustic, homely and kitsch. Homemade bread with an intense (in a good way) tahini flavour was a lovely starting addition. The stand out dish was this starter (only photo) Alsation tart with mountain cheese and bacon, the Pumpkin soup was also amazing! Main courses of Veal Schnitzel, and Vieniese Goulash were great, but quite filling, hence no pudding! Rioja was ideal pairing and all in all a fab night. We would recommend for something traditional in a kookie environment. The staff were amazing and very attentive,

The schnitzel was good, the potato salad too – if it weren't for the 5cm (!) plastic shard, which suggests it was pre-made. The server was friendly, a very nice guy. When we arrived at 7:55 pm, the owner snapped at us, saying we were too early for our 8:00 pm reservation, while other guests were being waved in and seated. We were offered ice cream for the shard – no thanks, especially not with his attitude. It was supposed to be a nice evening; I was lucky the piece didn't get stuck in my throat. The place is small; getting up and serving without disturbing other tables is almost impossible. A shame, we were really looking forward to it.

I walked in without a reservation, not realizing that it would be so busy on a Wednesday evening. The staff was accommodating and friendly. They sat me at a window seat in the front and it was perfectly comfortable. I have to say that I was looking forward to a traditional Austrian meal and was not disappointed. The goulash & dumplings were excellent.

I went to Sissi on Motzstraße, and overall it was a fun evening. The schnitzel was decent and well-prepared, but I've definitely had better in Berlin in that department. However, the service was truly excellent. Warm, attentive, and professional. Just a touch more of that typical Berlin charm would have added even more character. The dessert, on the other hand, was pure bliss. The homemade vanilla ice cream is a revelation. Anyone who misses it is making a mistake. The ambiance is an experience in itself. Pink silk wallpaper, a touch of kitsch, a touch of glamour, a touch of "Motzstraße, you know." The tables are a bit too close together, though. You sometimes feel like you're speed-dating with the people at the next table. And it gets quite noisy as a result. A private conversation is difficult. It was certainly a trendy spot once. Now it's become more touristy, which is fine, but the 90-minute table limit makes it feel more like a hotel restaurant in Mitte than a relaxed evening in the neighborhood. Nevertheless: overall a nice visit with room for improvement in the main course and high praise for dessert and service.

Came here with my girlfriends and it was such a fun time! We had the treat of being served by Alexander and he made our time so amazing 🤩 Couldn’t recommend this place more; for food and atmosphere ❤️❤️

The schnitzel was average, with no soul. Walking up the stairs, the damp smell was overwhelming. The salads, although ordered, were too small and served on tiny plates. I felt a certain unease in the dining room due to the paintings hanging on the walls, which we hadn't been warned about. The unisex orientation of the room also surprised me. I recommend that sensitive people refrain.

The food is excellent but I'm sorry to say the service isn't up to scratch. We had barely finished the starter when the main course arrived (they hadn't cleared it yet) and everything was rushed! The unpleasant feeling of having to hurry... and of being treated like common tourists...

We were a group of 19 people and had a wonderful meal. The schnitzels were truly delicious, a shout-out to the kitchen for working overtime! The dessert was also delicious, especially the apricot dumplings. Alexander was super nice and helpful. Overall, we experienced very great and friendly service. We'll definitely be back!

This restaurant is located in an area that has been very popular with the gay and lesbian scene in western Berlin for many decades. Nevertheless, the guests here are likely to represent the average younger residents of this middle-class Berlin district. I visited the restaurant on a normal working day. At 8:15 PM it was almost full to capacity. The service was very fast, very attentive and friendly. Advance booking is recommended. You definitely can't go wrong with a Wiener schnitzel!

Not recommended! There's a small room at the back next to the kitchen, crammed with tables, where we had two pork schnitzels (from the deep fryer) with fries and two colas. We paid about €65.00 for it. We wanted to pay with a bank card, and then we had to pay a "tip-off" on top of that. All in all, it was over €75.00. We won't be doing this again. We've decided not to go back there this holiday.

Perfect place to eat, super nice service

Popped in for dinner in a trip to Berlin from Canada. The restaurant was warmly inviting, as were the patrons and the staff. Had the schnitzel and a salad both of with were top notch and fantastic. Definitely will drop back in on my return to Berlin.

We ordered the pancakes - WAY TOO MUCH EGGS (basically an omelette inside) We waited for 20mins… Came all the way for this…

Edit: My following review, intended as a constructive one, was reported by the owners of Sissi for "defamation." I also noticed that similar reviews previously visible here have suddenly disappeared. *** Unfortunately, Sissi didn't really convince me: three of the side dishes I ordered were incorrect or missing. One plate even arrived almost empty. They should have asked the kitchen if that's really how it's supposed to be served. The Kaiserschmarren I ordered was only served after a total of 45 minutes upon repeated request. The Wiener Schnitzel for €28.50 (without a side dish) tasted okay, but for me, it was too dry and had too much breading. Kaiserschmarren was more mushy than fluffy. Beware of additional fees when paying with some credit cards. These are added to the bill here.

This was an incredible evening. Our server was extremely friendly and even went above and beyond by helping me charge my phone—something I greatly appreciated. The food was impeccable. I had the bean salad, eggplant schnitzel with potato salad, and boar ragu—each dish was delicious. Service did slow toward the end of our meal as the small restaurant filled up quickly, so we decided to skip dessert. Other than that, it was a great experience.

Nice home style food and good service. But quite pricy in Berlin terms, considering we only drank water.

We found Sissi while searching for a good place for dessert and it was a spot on!! I’ve never tasted better apple strudel than there - perfectly baked, served with delicious ice-cream - highly recommend! The service was quick and professional.

Consistent quality for years! It was an oasis in the hustle and bustle of the Motzstrassenfest!

Unfortunately, the manager ultimately spoiled our stay. The food was good, albeit quite expensive. The staff was also friendly and accommodating. After paying, when I went back into the restaurant toward the restroom and walked past the manager (who had been sitting less than four meters from our table for an hour), he said, with his cell phone to his ear, "Hello," and then, getting louder, "Hello!" twice in a row. After that, he angrily followed me (according to my friends at the table) and shouted, "Can't you hear me? What do you want here?" I replied, alarmed, that I wanted to use the restroom and was sitting at that table (pointing). To which he simply said, "Okay," and left me alone. Besides the fact that he could have politely asked me on my way in: "Excuse me, which table are you from?", an apology to me would have been more than appropriate after realizing his mistake. Customer service doesn't seem to be of any interest to the manager.

A lovely little restaurant. They serve authentic Austrian dishes. The portions are generous and delicious, and the prices aren't exactly cheap. The staff is very friendly. In my opinion, it's worth eating there.

Perhaps the seating might be a bit off-putting, but no matter what the impression... you have to try it. I arrived with no expectations and was more than thrilled to be released back into nature. My wishes were literally read from my forehead, and I received EXCELLENT care all around. Even when it started to rain, they didn't just send me out, but hospitably found me seats, even if I'd finished eating. Thank you so much for everything and for letting me enjoy it!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

The restaurant was extremely inclusive and the food was delicious. The limited menu hides expertise in selected dishes. Choose with confidence, because everything is delicious. The seats are close together in the outdoor dining area. If you are claustrophobic, you should inform the staff. Otherwise, prepare to get to know your neighbors. Maybe you will make a new friend?

The schnitzel and goulash were good, but we found the portions smaller and significantly more expensive than at other Austrian restaurants. The value for money isn't exactly right for us, but it's a nice place.

Actually 5 stars, good food, super friendly, fast service. BUT: They've introduced a 2% on-site fee for non-EU cards (credit and debit), which must be accepted at the payment terminal. According to online research, this is a decision made by the merchant (in this case: the restaurant) and not the bank/acquirer. Unfortunately, it's unacceptable. Keep in mind: The payment terminal directly demands a tip, which you're happy to give given such good service. Then there's the 2% surcharge (also on the tip). And if you use a credit card, an additional percentage point is added to the credit card statement. Recommendation: Review such merchants online accordingly. ADDENDUM after 10 visits to Berlin restaurants: so far, this is the only one with this bad habit.

It's actually a pretty nice place, but the price and quality don't quite match up here. While 25-30 euros is typical for a veal schnitzel, you also pay extra for the side dishes.

Here you'll find the best cheese spaetzle I've ever eaten! Made with love and flavorful mountain cheese. My compliments!

We spontaneously discovered this nice Austrian restaurant. The Wiener Schnitzel was cooked to perfection and we enjoyed it immensely. The only thing I would have preferred was a 1/8 liter of wine, but I was given a 1/4 liter without asking, and unfortunately, I realized too late what was on the table. Otherwise, it was a perfect meal and a wonderful evening.

Great service, very friendly and helpful. Food not what we expected, we had dinner the spinash dumplings were very dalty in some bites, but the sauce was delicious. The eggplant was good, but misses a side dish for the high price.

Promise not quite kept: The food was very OK (but it should be, given the prices), the service OK, but the extremely cramped seating in the back room on uncomfortable chairs in an overheated room at tables that were too small didn't lend itself to any kind of coziness—at least for me. Perhaps a way to avoid extending the maximum stay of 1.5 hours for two people...

Beautiful rooms in an old Berlin apartment. Great ambience. Extremely courteous staff. And the food is to die for!

We reserved Sissi based on the reviews. The food was tasty. Point. In our opinion, it wasn't so unusual that it would justify these prices. Ambiance didn't pick us up. This was probably due to the fact that we were assigned reserved seats as the only guests in the room, so we were supposed to sit right in the middle of the entrance. So we preferred to go outside. We would rather look for something new than make another reservation.

5/5 stars A real insider tip! The Sissi in Schöneberg is an absolute highlight of Austrian cuisine. The atmosphere is cozy and traditional, the service staff is friendly and attentive. The menu offers a variety of classic Austrian dishes, from Wiener Schnitzel to goulash and Kaiserschmarrn. Each dish is carefully prepared and presented, and the portions are generous. Our highlight was the Wiener Schnitzel, which was perfectly fried and crispy. The apple strudel was a perfect ending, creamy and sweet. We can only recommend Sissi and look forward to coming back soon!

Sorry, here comes a slightly more muted review: We found the wine delicious and the food okay. The portions were large, but given the high prices (you had to buy side dishes), we would have expected at least organic meat. Two of the three service guys were neither attentive (they mixed things up) nor particularly friendly (maybe that was insecurity, maybe it was their first day in service?) We find the new bad habit of having to choose between fixed percentages when paying (or "No tip", which hardly anyone has the heart to do) unpleasant and oppressive.

A real piece of Austria in the middle of Berlin! At Sissi we enjoyed a wonderfully tender Viennese schnitzel and a delicious liver dumpling soup - authentic, perfectly seasoned and prepared with a lot of love. The service was also outstanding: warm, attentive and pleasantly unobtrusive. If you want to experience traditional Austrian cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere, this is the right place for you. An all-round successful evening – we will definitely be back!

The “Sissi” restaurant offers an exceptional atmosphere and a delicious selection of Austrian specialties. The Wiener Schnitzel was perfectly breaded and wonderfully tender, while the cucumber potato salad went well with it. The service was friendly and attentive, which made the evening even more enjoyable. “Sissi” is the perfect place to enjoy Austrian cuisine in a cozy atmosphere! Highly recommended!
