Traditional Austrian cuisine without any airs. The service is very friendly; even after 3 pm, we weren't asked to leave and were able to finish our meal in peace until their break. Thank you for that. A lunch special between 12 pm and 3 pm saves a bit of money.

Traditional Austrian cuisine made with absolute respect for technique and ingredients. Classic, comforting, and well-executed dishes, without unnecessary reinterpretations. The wine list is a spectacle in itself — carefully selected, in-depth, and with a great focus on Austrian labels. A welcoming atmosphere, almost like a Weinhandlung itself, and reliable service. A serious address for those who value tradition, product, and well-chosen wine.

I invited nearly 30 people for a social evening. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, for example: "You gave us a wonderful evening!" Of course, it was the Ottenthal team who made this possible. The food, ambiance, wines (including a wine tasting beforehand), and service were exactly as my guests and I had hoped! We'll be back. In short: Highly recommended.

As always, a wonderful outing to my favorite restaurant. Having been here at least 20 times in recent years, I wanted to leave a review. We reserved a table for six for Christmas, and everything went smoothly, as usual. Great service, helpful menu advice, and a festive atmosphere. This time, due to celiac disease, we also ordered gluten-free options. This was no problem at all; the team is very knowledgeable and flexible. In the end, we ordered the gluten-free schnitzel, which was world-class. We also had the salad, the large schnitzels, the Arctic char, the legendary Kaiserschmarren (shredded pancake), and apricot crepes. We finished it off with espresso. The service was perfectly paced, the food was, as always, of the highest quality, and it made for a wonderful evening. Many thanks to the team, and see you soon!

Small restaurant serving Austrian cuisine. Reserving a table in advance is highly recommended. The prices are on the higher side, but you get excellent service and truly delicious food. The decor is relatively modern. Those looking for a rustic, mountain-like atmosphere will be disappointed. We, however, like it this way. Our only criticism is that, due to the small size of the dining room, you sometimes sit quite close to the next table. This certainly won't appeal to everyone. Hence the one-point deduction for ambiance. We've been here several times and will definitely return.

The schnitzels are first-class, the Kaiserschmarrn and the Palatschinken are addictive; the service is very friendly and attentive, making you feel warmly welcomed at all times. This is how every restaurant should be. And other people appreciate this too, because the restaurant is always popular, so a reservation is a must! It's quite nice here, but I expect it will be a one-time visit. It won't become my new go-to Austrian restaurant. The overall experience didn't completely blow me away, though I can't quite put my finger on what bothered me. The cordon bleu was tasty, but it was only juicy because of the cheese.

Disappointing! We've dined at this restaurant before, but it will probably be our last. Like many other reviews here have mentioned, we unfortunately had a negative experience with a blonde waitress, and the Wiener Schnitzel was a bland, tasteless "cream puff" served without cranberries (a classic accompaniment to Wiener Schnitzel!!!). When we inquired about it, we received an arrogant reply: "Did you order cranberries? Cranberries are only served upon request!"... What a shame, we're not used to that, and thank you for not asking when we ordered in this case ☹️. Very strange business practices...

Absolutely recommened Ottenthal after a recent dinner here! The staff were so friendly, the service was efficient and the schnitzel was delicious. The atmosphere is great and feels very cosy. Excellent wine selection too!

We wanted to eat there but unfortunately hadn't made a reservation and were turned away, which was fine. However, we then saw that reservations were still available online for an hour later, and when we arrived, the restaurant was empty. What a shame!

Had been very keen to try a good snitzel since I moved to Germany. This place provided us with an amazing experience for a date night. We had the soups, snitzel and strudel which all were incredible and not over filling at all. The staff were so friendly and provided a warm and welcoming environment on what was a very cold night outside. Would recommend anyone living in the area or visiting Berlin to have dinner here.

We recently visited Restaurant Ottenthal as a group of six and unfortunately, we don't have much positive to report. While the food was really good, our visit was marred by unfriendly and inattentive staff. Several orders were forgotten, which made the evening very frustrating. Despite the good food, we cannot recommend this restaurant due to the poor service. It's a shame that such a good meal is so significantly affected by the staff. The young blonde woman serving was particularly problematic.

You'll hardly find a better Wiener Schnitzel anywhere else ;) The salad dressing was a bit too sweet and the bread was a little dry, but otherwise no complaints :) The Kaiserschmarrn was also really delicious ❤️ We'll be back!

For the past two years, I've been a regular at this restaurant and I'm still thrilled with it. As someone who doesn't eat much meat and generally doesn't eat much of it, I have to admit that the schnitzel is the best in all of Berlin, or probably in all of Germany. The quality of the food hasn't diminished in the slightest over the years, and the staff are always refreshingly friendly. I will continue to come back again and again and can wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone.

We arrived on Saturday evening without a reservation. The friendly waiter went out of his way to find us a table for two. The service was excellent, the atmosphere pleasant, and the food very good. We were very satisfied and would definitely return.

We went there spontaneously and got the last table by the entrance. It was great. The desserts were delicious and the service was extremely friendly and funny. We'd love to come back, and next time for the schnitzel.

The pumpkin soup was barely edible – the schnitzel was good, but the prices are a bit too high. The service was also quite unfriendly at times.

the most unpleasant experience ever. the host and staff were not even acknowledging you after standing to get a table. the place was half empty and they turn me away by just saying the place is fully booked for the whole night but then on open table there were tables available.

A very nice restaurant on Kantstrasse, stylishly furnished and generally with a pleasant atmosphere. The prices are quite high – typical for the location, but unfortunately, the value for money isn't convincing. The service was disappointing: The waiters seemed very young, and unfortunately, quite arrogant and not very friendly. Regarding the food: Bread: not particularly tasty. Schnitzel: vastly overrated. The meat is sliced ​​extremely thin, so you can barely taste anything but the breading. It doesn't stick to the meat and falls apart into many pieces when you cut it – a shame, because the meat itself is actually good. Overall, a very disappointing schnitzel. Kaiserschmarrn & Espresso: on the other hand, really very good and the positive highlights of the evening. Many guests seem to come for the famous schnitzel, but for me, it was unfortunately a disappointment. What a pity!

Service was pretty bad. The younger blonde waitress was constantly pulling a face, listless and quite rude. They didn't even ask if everything was okay or if you needed anything else. I expect that from a certain level of service. The schnitzel was subpar, as was the potato salad. Both were bland and tasteless. However, they slapped so much garlic on the potato salad that you couldn't taste anything else. The cranberries were cheap cranberry jam. It had absolutely nothing to do with that. The only really good thing was the fresh bread, of which you got three mini slices. Having heard so many good things about it, I wasn't expecting that. But it was truly outrageous, and it ended up costing almost €100.

Service is fast, professional, and friendly. The Wiener Schnitzel is okay. It's an experience you don't need. I don't understand the hype surrounding the schnitzel. I tasted breaded meat and sensed a bit of rectangular, thin veal—a chef can season a schnitzel, too. The salad was tasty, as was the espresso… I wouldn't eat a schnitzel here again.

The only thing I'd say is the price is a bit high, but the food, service, and atmosphere are top-notch!!!! I would definitely go back!!!!! For two people €75

Daniel and the team really looked after us. The food was fantastic and there were some lovely vegetarian options. Would recommend a visit if you are in the area. They have won plenty of awards and now we know why 😀

We had an incredible meal (the best Wiener Schnitzel), and the atmosphere was very pleasant. The seating is very relaxed and comfortable. The volume is subdued, allowing for quiet conversation. The service was very friendly and attentive. We felt at home the entire evening. We'll definitely be back.

Perfect Wiener Schnitzel, in a large or small portion. Lovely ambiance. Perfect fried schnitzel. Good wine. Compared to a big name, whose offerings I was very disappointed with, this is a much better alternative. It's possible: good Austrian cuisine and good wine, plus good service. It's worth it, whereas L&W, by comparison, isn't at all...

The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't worth the price. The price of a 0.25 liter of wine at €14-€15 is also unacceptable. Furthermore, the noise level was so high that it was almost impossible to have a conversation.

After a long break, we returned to this beautiful spot on Thursday, September 25, 2025. The restaurant has maintained its self-imposed, very high standards over the past few years. The food, the wine, the service, and the entire atmosphere were impeccable, friendly, and unobtrusive. You probably won't get a seat without a reservation. Even on a Thursday, it was packed. That speaks volumes about the restaurant, but doesn't affect the quality or service. See you soon, and all the best for many more years of great dining!

The food is excellent. The Wiener Schnitzel is legendary, but the other dishes are also of very high quality. The fried Seibel is particularly noteworthy. For dessert, there's a wonderful Kaiserschmarrn. The wine selection is well-balanced. The only issue is the service, as it can sometimes get a bit busy in the shop. Overall, it's a relaxed, pleasant atmosphere, but you do have to fight a bit for the waiters' attention.

Stumbled across this restaurant while out looking for dinner one night. Was the best schnitzel I’ve ever had. Very friendly pleasant staff. Had bread and mashed potato/sour cream whilst waiting, chicken schnitzel, wine spritz and then apple strudel with home made ice cream for desert. Super busy in the restaurant but heaps of tables. Would recommend to book but we managed to squeeze in. Sooo delicious and deffo would come back. Highly recommend. Lovely toilets also!!

Kantstrasse in the Charlottenburg district is undoubtedly not one of Berlin's most beautiful streets! It's a busy road leading toward the exhibition halls and the motorway access roads! But the area at the beginning of the street is noteworthy for its interesting buildings, which are of interest to visitors to the city: not far from the Ottenthal Restaurant is the magnificent building of the "Theater des Westens." Since 2002, it has been called the "Stage Theater des Westens," where two highly successful musicals are currently being shown: "The Nurse" and "Romeo and Juliet." There are also several notable restaurants, such as the "Paris Bar" and several Vietnamese restaurants! The "Ottenthal" has been serving its guests with excellent Austrian cuisine for over 30 years! The restaurant has 45 tables inside and another 10 seats at the bar! There are five tables outside, where you can also enjoy friendly service in nice weather! Today I chose a wine from their own vineyard: Rose Fizzanze, and for starters: creamed mushroom soup and bread with apple cheese (mashed potatoes with sour cream, salt, pepper, and white garlic!) A very good choice, as I discovered during the meal!!! For the main course, there was creamed goulash with spaetzle! I can't remember having eaten goulash like this in the past 5 years! Truly the best Austrian cuisine!!! But the big surprise came with dessert: original Kaiserschmarren!! Not from a bag, like almost everywhere else in the city! It took 20 minutes for the delicious dessert to arrive on the table! And it exceeded all my expectations!!! Very, very delicious! Every piece was a delight, because it wasn't a factory-made product, but a carefully prepared classic Austrian pastry: Kaiserschmarren, as it should be! j If you're visiting Berlin and want to enjoy Austrian cuisine after a visit to the Zoological Garden or a stroll along Kurfürstendamm, you should visit Ottenthal on Kantstrasse! And a special compliment goes to the service: our order was taken quickly and friendly, and the food arrived promptly! And that, even though the very pleasant and friendly staff member was serving 15 other guests at the same time! And the short goodbye chat was filled with great warmth! Thank you so much!!! The next visit is already planned because there are still other delicious dishes to try!

We were first served bread and cream while waiting for our food, which was a nice start. I tried the small Schnitzel and quite liked it. The portion was filling and the meat was tender, almost melting in the mouth. For dessert, I had the strudel and the lovely smell of cinnamon filled the table as soon as it arrived. The only slight disappointment was that it did not come with a scoop of ice cream, which I had expected. Although maybe there was an option on the menu that I missed. To finish, they treated us to two small pieces of cake when we paid the bill, which was lovely. Overall, I really enjoyed my dinner at Ottenthal.

A very traditional Viennese restaurant. The service was initially very friendly, but when we, a young group, remained seated and chatted after dinner, the waitress seemed irritated. The schnitzel and potato salad were very good. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Unfortunately, Ottenthal is no longer one of our favorite Austrian restaurants, even though its location near Zoo Station makes it easily accessible by public transport. The service is still excellent, but the price-performance ratio is no longer up to scratch. A Wiener Schnitzel, which is more like breadcrumbs and where you have to hunt for the extremely thin slice of veal, is simply unacceptable. The mere four pieces of goulash on our guests' plates was more than disappointing. It's a shame, we used to love this place.

We ate here yesterday. It's rather unassuming from the outside, but the interior is very tastefully decorated, and the food tops off the ambiance. Everything was great and reminded us of our last vacation in Austria.

A fantastic Austrian restaurant in a great location, where you can enjoy excellent Austrian dishes and drinks... A must-visit for me on every visit to Berlin for decades (!). Recommended, even if the typical ambiance and even more typical Austrian humor are simply missing in Germany's capital. The "Servus" from the head waiter is at least a first attempt 😉 Top-notch food, non-alcoholic beer (really excellent!) instead of from Austria, at least from the Czech Republic, which, as Bohemia, was also part of the former Habsburg monarchy. 😀 The fact that the service team was more concerned with themselves than with the guests perhaps explains why the bread basket with spread, along with all the rest, was only served at the end. It would have been better served before the main course. But that would be Austrian whining at the highest level about an Austrian restaurant in Berlin...

Very good food, too good. I think I simply ate too much. For the main course and dessert, I couldn't decide between Kaiserschmarrn and apricot dumplings. The apricot dumplings were absolutely fantastic, but they could improve the Kaiserschmarrn a bit. I think they could do better. I'll definitely go back next time I'm in Berlin.

A great find for brunch lovers. The avocado toast with poached eggs was perfect — fresh bread, creamy avocado, and runny yolks. Coffee was strong and smooth, and the staff didn’t rush us at all. Great spot to spend a slow Sunday morning.

I needed to eat a good wiener schnitzel ... I looked in my font for the food around my hotel 🏨 and in 10 minutes walk there was this restaurant ... from the photos I can recognize the good food then the taste and it’s time to verify it in the place! Honestly, I almost never make mistakes in this type of food 🥗 and that’s how it was .:. In addition ... Better than I expected / wanted. ... so I can only say thank you to the cook for making us happy with the food .. we are Italian and always we tells us that in Germany you don’t eat well .... Well, I just think they haven’t found the right places and this is one of them ... More than recommended 🫡👍

This place has mastered the art of casual fine dining. The atmosphere is laid-back but with a clear attention to detail in everything — from the cutlery to the plating. I had the duck ravioli in sage butter, and it was simply divine. The waiter knew exactly when to approach and when to leave us alone. I felt relaxed, happy, and genuinely satisfied.

Die Suppe und Schnitzel waren sehr gut, aber der Kaiserschmarrn und besonders die Sachertorte waren herausragend. Anfangs war ich etwas irritiert, als wir anders als die Tische um uns herum zehn Minuten auf die Aufmerksamkeit der Bedienung warten mussten. Da schmerzten die doch hohen Preise. Aber dann löste sich alles in Wohlgefallen auf und die Bedienung war sehr freundlich. Es war ungelogen die beste Sachertorte, die ich je gegessen habe. Allein deswegen werde ich wiederkommen.

Ottenthal was a wonderful dining experience for our whole family. The food was absolutely excellent — Austrian family members commented it was the best schnitzel outside Austria :). The Tafelspitz was tender and delicious, and the palatschinken were tops. The service was so warm and attentive — this was top notch and I’d love to return when next in Berlin.

I really enjoyed this place, the atmosphere is really nice and the staff were very kind and helpful and spoke English. I think this would make a very cute date spot. I love that they make an effort to avoid using plastics and aluminum in their kitchen (mentioned in menu). The food was delicious and you could tell they used high quality ingredients. The portions were generous, as an American, I was stuffed! The cost was very reasonable and they take cards. Will definitely visit again next time I'm in Berlin.

The service was nevertheless extremely friendly, competent, attentive - exemplary. Special requests for decoration and food were always fulfilled in a charming manner. The schnitzels were delicious, the Sachertorte - as promised - was a hit. The rooms are stylish. Recommended, we would love to come back.
