Coming in as a guest today after 20 years - a very special experience as I completed my training here in 2004. It was simply wonderful and very emotional to return to this place that brings back so many beautiful and formative memories. The food is still first class: incredibly tasty, high quality and exactly as I remembered it - 'like before'. ;) A big thank you for the great service! I happened to stumble into the Ottenthal hungry without knowing what to expect, and the loving, friendly service staff recommended an excellent boiled beef with a refreshing wine accompaniment. The food embraced me like the feeling of home. A pleasure! Best boiled beef of my life! Thanks to the entire kitchen for this culinary delight. With everything fully booked, the service was quick, attentive, friendly and charming. Would eat here again at any time.

Service unfortunately very arrogant.

The worst service I have ever experienced in a restaurant. A waiter, an older man which is around 50 years old I guess, asked me if he could move my bag. I said that it wasn’t a problem for me. Instead of moving my bag, he was throwing it on the ground against a wall, while there was a laptop in it. And he even didn’t apologize when we said that it was quite strange. So for the service you can better go somewhere else. And that is sad, because there isn’t anything wrong with the food.

Warum nicht mal österreichisch! Und dazu original Wiener Schnitzel mit Vogel- und Kartoffel-Gurken-Salat! Und ein schönes Glas Roter Veltliner! Eine runde Sache! I was quite disappointed by the time we had at Ottenthal. We went there for dinner for two on a summer evening while visiting Berlin. I have to admit that the dishes we ordered were ok. Not knowing the subtleties of Austrian cuisine, we found our plates recomforting. Cuisine aside, what disappointed the most was the service. There were little considerations given to us : the plates were almost thrown onto the table without even checking who ordered what, no enquiry on whether we needed more drinks nor desserts, ... we didn't feel welcome. Little problem on the note where there was an additional unidentified item that we noticed way after paying (we should have checked, our bad) For the price we paid, we would have expected a more welcoming service. I'd be happy to pursue the discussion if needed to explain further my feedback. Cheers!

Staff lovely.. unfortunately we found the food ordinary. Personally we were disappointed after reading the rave reviews about the schnitzel being the best outside Austria but Buttery crispy schinizel it was NOT. Don’t get me wrong the foot was competent but not worth the price tag. For our taste (and I do admit that taste is a very personal thing) we found the Food & Wine over priced for our taste.

Quality Austrian/German food which was near out hotel. Cant really complain about the food especially the bread & potato/onion/cream cheese spread which was delicious. However it's not cheap and I was really surprised to be charged €4 for 2 cups of hot water. I was told that there is no tap water so then paid for 0.2l glass of still water charged at €2. Plus it is then stated "TIP IS NOT INCLUDED" on the bill. TBH service was great - it's just the additional charges that lets the restaurant down.

Were on August 10th. 24 for the first time in OTTENTHAL and are Really very enthusiastic, except for a few “little things” that I would just like to point out in this price range! When I ordered a large bottle of carbonated MINERAL WATER, I would have liked to have been told what was coming, the veal goulash was decidedly too tomatoized and the wonderful service of the gentleman who served us; discreet, competent and very personable, was constantly praised Lady who apparently wanted to “go one step further” was intrusively disturbed! Starters, boiled beef, dessert absolutely top, priced just before the PAIN LIMIT, but absolutely worth the money! Otherwise a great EXPERIENCE and we would love to come back! I must say I was surprised and happy! I definitely want to come here again.

There are German/Austrian restaurants you go to for that traditional beer-hall-style atmosphere and there are those you visit for a really good meal. This is the latter. They don't have communal benches or wear Lederhosen here. Instead, they have some of the best traditional Austrian dishes I've ever had. The (veal) schnitzel is cooked to perfection and melts in your mouth. (Ask for the Preiselbeeren because I don't think they come by default!) While the side portions are small, they make up for quantity with quality. The salad and potato salad were both fantastic. The entrees were so good, we couldn't resist the Kaiserschmarrn for dessert (FYI it takes time as they make it fresh). And what a fantastic decision. It was so fluffy and warm and perfect; it was in the top 5 of all Kaiserschmarrn I've had, and that's saying something. The service was really friendly and made sure we were taken care of at all times. And since it was raining during our visit, it was incredibly cozy inside with nice lighting and old-school but upscale ambiance. So TL;DR: come here for a slightly pricier chef's-kiss Austrian meal in a fancier setting. And make a reservation, as they fill up often!

I had my dinner in this pleasant Austrian restaurant. The venue is nice and the cuisine is very good. I had a wonderful Wiener schnitzel but also other proposals were excellent. The service makes the difference: the ladies are very professional but, at the same time, they are very kind and they make you feel at home! A very nice dinner: Recommended!

It was very special! The food was authentic, Service attentive and atmosphere quite pleasant!

This place was once recommended to me by the local foodies. As a rule, you shouldn't expect good national food outside of the country of its origin. But this time, such rule doesn't apply! I am always smiling while eating the perfectly cooked schnitzel. And I am also amazed by the seriously professional wine list of the Austrian wines. I should not be saying anything else about this place. Let me just say, that they serve the best Viennese schnitzel outside of Vienna. Every time I am in Berlin, I find the evening to go to Ottental. Those schnitzels are addictive, you know...

Fascists like Maximilian Krah are apparently welcome guests here, as he was a guest there last Friday evening. Completely incomprehensible why such a high-ranking redtaurant feels the need to entertain fascists... unless the owners sympathize with their ideas? In any case, I won't go here again and recommend that all democratic people boycott this restaurant!

We were staying fairly close so selected this restaurant on accessibility but we were very happy with the meal and the service. In particular our waitress was extremely personable and friendly, gave us a table outside - the only issue we had was other diners constantly smoking / vaping, surely this could be banned even outside? The food was good and seemingly authentic, overall we were pretty happy.

Great experience, I would love to go back one day and dine at Ottenthal again. It was a very emotional dinner because we travelled with my parents who had their 40 year anniversary and for dessert they had Baumkuchen which they served as Wedding Cake 40 years ago (in Buenos Aires, Argentina so nowhere close to Austria or Germany at all haha). The food was also amazing, and the attention was as well. Thank you!

Door alle goede recensies zijn we hier terecht gekomen, anders zouden we er waarschijnlijk totaal voorbij zijn gereden. En de goede recensies zijn niet voor niets. Het eerlijk is echt heerlijk. Perfect bereid. Personeel is zeer vriendelijk en gastvrij. Ik had vooraf de pompoensoep met ontzettend lekkere pompoenolie, zelfs mijn eigen eigen soep kon daar niet aan tippen. Mijn man had de cordon blue, die verrukkelijk was en ik de entrecote, even heerlijk. We zaten te vol voor een nagerecht. Wij zaten lekker buiten op het kleine terras aan een leuke drukke straat. Let wel op, parkeer je auto niet recht voor de deur, dat is een fietspad wat helemaal niet duidelijk aangegeven is. Politie komt aan en iedereen, stuk of 8 auto's, kregen een bekeuring en na een uur, werden alle auto's, stuk voor stuk weggesleept. Moet eerlijk zeggen het was vermakelijk om te aanschouwen, maar je wilt natuurlijk niet dat het je eigen auto is!

Good food, nice decor! I've been there for many years! However, since Corona there has been a bit of a lack of service and hospitality when we don't come as a large group but want to eat as a couple. Unfortunately, that's a real shame!

Delightful. We ate dinner here this evening. Wonderful atmosphere, warmth, and attention to detail. The food was a great mix of flavors and expertly cooked—thoughtful menu with a variety of options. Would highly recommend and will come back next time we visit!

Shortly before the historic cup final, we wanted and did fortify ourselves here with Austrian specialties. We had the Grüner Veltliner sparkling wine from the revealed and then a very nice COrdon Bleu with good cheese content and the right crust. Were served friendly and the great pinot noir with the even better butcher pig on the label. It is quite noisy in the room - but the service is great, not intrusive and the opening time is until just before midnight. There is no Michelin star for the cuisine - but I don't think that's the goal and you know why you go to Ottental. You should also read Evelyn Roll's book. She suffered a burst aneurysm, survived and was successfully operated on. Go through the post-operative trauma shock...and then invite those who have shown by saving lives that commitment and ability is what counts to a thank you dinner at the Ottenthal. On page 136 the Ottenthal is immortalized in literature.

We had a great dinner at Ottenthal with very friendly staff. The Wiener Schnitzel is a must if you eat at an Austrian restaurant. The Kaiserschmarrn is fresh, but a little sweet. A matter of taste 😊 we'll be back!!

Pre booked online before visiting Berlin, greeted by lovely staff who were so welcoming, service, food, and drinks were excellent. We were a party of 4 all trying different dishes which we thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommended.

Top food in a great location with first-class service

Even though my wife and I just wanted to have a bite to eat before our musical started, we ended up with one of the tastiest meals we've ever eaten. No matter whether it was a starter, main course or dessert, it tasted fantastic. Plus an absolutely courteous service. We will definitely come back on our next trip to Berlin.

Great, simply great! I've already experienced a lot, but everything here is just right. The ambience is brilliant, with a fresh rose on a small stele in honor of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, an ancient church tower clockwork from Ottenthal in Austria that is still functional and running, and the finest Easter decorations throughout the restaurant. The atmosphere is carried by really friendly, loving and, above all, very good-humored and relaxed guests. And on top of that, the food and wine as well as the aperitif, coffee and digestif were an absolute revelation. First a boiled beef soup with liver dumplings made from goose liver, the consommé alone was to die for. Then a cordon bleu of veal, my favorite dish since childhood, the like of which I can never remember eating - the finest ham, the excellent mountain cheese, the meat cooked to perfection and the breading (in German: breading) simply great, crispy and beautifully souffled . Craziness. Finally, a Sachertorte with whipped cream, and I have to say: What a Sachertorte! I've already eaten the Sachertorte at Café Sacher in Vienna, which to be honest was very sobering. But this one was not only the best I've ever had, but easily ten times as good as in Vienna. Only now do I know why the Sachertorte has become so world famous. And you can definitely taste the homemade apricot jam. Cheers! As a joke, I ordered a single horse instead of a double espresso macchiato, and what can I say, it was served promptly! And it was so delicious. Then a schnapps from the cornelian cherry, extremely tasty and an excellent conclusion. All of this would be absolutely top class if it weren't for the one and only outstanding service! From the first greeting to the farewell, I have rarely if ever experienced such attentive, highly professional service, including a warm, loving manner and affection towards the guest - with humor. My greatest appreciation, here in Ottenthal you can really feel completely at home from A to Z. I'll definitely be back! PS: The only downer is the really not very reasonable prices. You pay around 15 € for a glass of wine, not less than 40 € for a bottle, usually 50 to 80 €, main courses around 30 to 40 €, starters 15 to 20 €, tap water from 3.50 to 7 € ( 0.5 to 1 l). I was initially skeptical about the prices, but I still have to say that with this restaurant's service and quality, it's definitely worth the money!

I can only speak from my own experience. The restaurant is one of the best in Berlin and the service is the nicest. We will be back definitely.

The Ottenthal is one of my husband and I's absolute favorite restaurants. The service is always super friendly and attentive and the menu is sophisticated and the dishes are prepared with skill and a lot of love. In addition, you can get the best Wiener Schnitzel in the city! We are already looking forward to the next visit!

Absolutely fabulous Austrian food and service. Definitely worth a visit. I had a cream of cauliflower soup with a small dumpling in it followed by a piece of tender pork with a wonderful apple/horseradish sauce, potatoes and cream spinach. Beautiful presentation. The waiter provided just the right amount of attention. Definitely give the place a try.

We celebrated Women's Day here as a couple and didn't have a reservation. After a short wait we got a table. All the staff were polite and friendly and everyone was smiling. For the food I chose the cheese spaetzle, I can only say it's world class! Rounded off with a nice glass of cold rosé wine. For dessert there was homemade apple strudel and coffee. Heavenly and worth repeating at any time... Great restaurant!

Having been to the best Austrian restaurants, my expectations were high. The food was good but I wouldn't put it on my list to return any time soon. Small cozy restaurant. If you are not spoiled by restaurants in Austria like Plachuta, you may like the food here and not know the difference. For me the Tafelspitz was a bit of a disappointment.

The food was good but overpriced for what you got. Service was very friendly and you felt welcome. But from 6 p.m. onwards it also became more crowded and therefore more hectic/louder. Nevertheless, I would like to do it again 👍

A cosy restaurant. Food was good quality but quite expensive compared to other places . Staff were efficient but unfriendly and not proactive. We would not rush back.

Unfortunately I can't agree with the many very good reviews. It's a good restaurant that pretends to be upscale, but ultimately isn't. Unfortunately, the final whistle in the kitchen isn't right. If you taste more breading than schnitzel, if you get your schnitzel without cranberries without any indication that you have a choice and later see them at other tables, you will be doubly disappointed - and especially given the hefty prices. It felt and purely subjectively that the price-performance ratio was not right. Wiener Schnitzel is one of my favorite foods and I have to admit that I am very picky. Unfortunately it wasn't a match for me.

The "Austrian" in Berlin since 1994, with that certain something and top cuisine! The service is friendly and accommodating, the food is delicious, a good wine list, Almdudler and an unforgettable evening!

The vegan schnitzel costs way too much at €32 and unfortunately tastes incredibly bad... Instead of sides or soy, they use falafel as a filling. Which, combined with the breading, creates a desert in your mouth... important to say: the staff is incredibly friendly, courteous and fast! The atmosphere is great too…

I've been coming here for many years because the food and the ambience are great. Now in 2024 the prices have exceeded the limit for me. E.g. 38€ Cordon Bleu, 7€ scoop of sorbet, Zweigelt Fl. 40 € (with EK 8 €)...

Outstanding. I had the venison fillet. We recommend. Extremely delicate. Nice flavors. The interaction also harmonized very nicely. Schneider Weisse on tap is also extremely rare in Germany. For dessert there was Baumkuchen and an espresso. Espresso served as it should with water and the Baumkuchen was very juicy. My friend had hand-pulled apple strudel. I was allowed to try it and it is the best I have ever eaten in my life. Truly unforgettable. The service is exceptional. Your wardrobe is taken away and you remember what you gave in when you leave. Impressive. The price is a little higher but is also justified. A must if you are in Berlin. Always my pleasure.

Incredibly cheeky and arrogant communication from the “Feel Good Manager” Mr. Schutt. He “expects” €90 sales + €10 tip per person otherwise he won’t give a reservation. Where is something like that? We will certainly never go there.

Unfortunately I can't comment on the food as it never even got to that point. I wanted to make a reservation for 12 people and recently asked via email. In the answer: "I expect a minimum turnover of €90 per person + €10 tip" From a business perspective, it is certainly understandable that one expects a certain level of sales from a group. But €90? What if the schnitzel costs €35? And then the form of communication that requires me to give a tip before I even step foot into the restaurant? I have never experienced this before and I find it extremely irritating and will therefore consume my schnitzel elsewhere.

Very tasty schnitzel… Unfortunately our table was only reserved for 1 1/2 hours, so we were a bit in a rush… Kaiserschmarren as dessert was also on point! It's best to take more time with you. Good selection of wines is also available.

One of my two absolute favorite restaurants in West Berlin for 30 years 😍😍😍. The Ottenthal has been around since the beginning of 1993 and I have been there many times with complete satisfaction.

Wir waren nicht zum ersten Mal hier. Es war wie immer. Ausgezeichneter, sehr aufmerksamer und herzlicher Service. Wiener Schnitzel wie es nicht besser geht, Salat wie er sein muss und ein toller Zweigelt. Herzlichen Dank für einen tollen Abend.

Ein so wundervoller ort. Die mitarbeiterinnen sind so lieb, kompetent (trotz erkältung etc.), professionell und herzlich. Das essen ist ein traum. Preis/ leistung sehr stimmig. Carpaccio, schnitzel (mit dem weltbesten kartoffelsalat) und zwiebelrostbraten (wahnsinnig gut!!) Und zum abschluss povidlknödel und baumkuchen (heaven) haben uns den abend über verzaubert. Wir kommen definitiv immer wieder gern wieder. Danke für den schönen abend liebes team.

Die Atmosphäre war wie immer sehr schön. Der Service war gut. Eine Beanstandung gibt es: wir hatten Barplätze gebucht und bei der Ankunft gefragt, ob es nicht die Möglichkeit gäbe uns an einen Tisch zu platzieren, da mehr als ca. 70% der Tische unbesetzt waren. Es hieß, dass es aufgrund der zahlreichen Reservierungen nicht möglich wäre. Als wir am Ende das Lokal verließen, waren immer noch ca. 50 % der Tische nicht belegt.... Für die Preisklasse erwarte ich einen aufmerksamen, kundenorientierten Service. Die Qualität des Essens hat im Vergleich zu 2019 erheblich nachgelassen. Das Schnitzel kam aus der Fritteuse und hat fast nur nach öliger Panade geschmeckt. Die Gans war trocken und die Soße, Beilagen haben nicht nach besonderer Handwerkskunst geschmeckt. Sehr schade.

Ein gehobeneres Restaurant mit deutsch-österreichischer Küche. Das Essen ist einwandfrei und die Portionsgrößen so, dass kein Essen übrig bleibt. Das Essen wird aus biologisch angebauten Produkten/gehaltenen Tieren zubereitet. Auch Vegetarierer kommen auf ihre Kosten (die Schwammerl mit Semmelknödel sind fantastisch!). Der Service und die Beratung hinsichtlich Essen und Getränkeauswahl ist exzellent! Die Freude, die Ahnung und die Erfahrung ist dem Personal deutlich anzumerken. Dabei sind sie authentisch und nicht aufgesetzt freundlich. Und man merkt, dass sie ihre eigenen Gerichte/Getränke selbst probiert haben.

Do not look the prices in this place, I ask you to focus on two things. Number one is the food, it is just a delicacy. Here I cannot forget to mention that all products are organic and regional. Number two is the service, which exceeds most of people's expectations, if you have been leaving for quite a while in Berlin. It is not an overwhelming business friendly service, but a warm, qualified and just on time one and you will notice it as soon as you step in at this place. Pricy? Yes, very; but it is worth the try.

The best Wiener Schnitzel around!

Wir waren gestern zu viert im Ottenthal. Es gab doch eine Kleinigkeiten, die für mich bei den Preisen absolut selbstverständlich sein sollten. Die Speisekarte bekommt zu erst der Herr am Tisch vor den Damen? Das wäre mir neu. Auch die Weinkarte ging automatisch an den Herrn am Tisch. Wir mussten sehr lange warten, bis unsere leeren Teller abgeräumt wurden. Es ist recht laut, sodass normale Unterhaltungen eher schwierig sind. Auch dass das Wasser am Tisch von den Servicekräften nicht automatisch aufgefüllt wird, wenn sie sehen dass die Gläser leer sind, finde ich sehr schade. Es sind die kleinen Aufmerksamkeiten. Dazu gebe ich gerne Geld für gutes Essen aus, aber fast 24€ für eine Portion Käsespätzle ist einfach nicht zu rechtfertigen. Vor allem dann nicht, wenn sie lauwarm am Tisch ankamen. Das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis stimmt hier für mich leider überhaupt nicht. Das nächste Mal geht’s lieber wieder in die Nußbaumerin.

Ein sehr schöner Abend, aufmerksame Bedienung, sehr leckeres Essen Da das Restaurant sehr schmal ist, wirkt es schnell sehr überfüllt.

Sehr aufmerksames und freundliches Personal. Falls nichts anderes frei ist, nicht von einem Platz an der Bar abschrecken lassen, guckt euch die Bilder an, auch an der Bar sitzt man super und es ist sehr gesellig.

Hier wurde die Erwartung an ein österreichisches Restaurant voll erfüllt. Sehr passendes, gemütliches Ambiente. Ein Lokal mit klarem Konzept: Eine überschaubare Karte und das, was drinsteht, auf hohem Niveau abliefern. Klassisch und gut. Perfektes Wiener Schnitzel und sehr zarter Tafelspitz. Dazu ein sehr netter Service und eine beindruckende Auswahl österreichischer Weine.

Kann ja mal passieren … Gerichte qualitativ naja (Gans, immerhin 49 Euro je Tellergericht): weder geschmacklich der Burner, noch kross at all (frisch aus dem Ofen ?) - da ist nur am Rande zu erwähnen, dass der sehr(?) freundliche Kellner ungefragt mitteilte, dass man aus einer Gans 6 Portionen “herausschneide” - 1 Gans = 300 Euro (nicht schlecht … ) - dem Wunsch der 4 Gäste nach 2 x Brust und 2x Keule konnte die Küche leider nicht entsprechen - schade eigentlich - sind wir anders gewohnt - wir bekamen 3 x Keule und 1 x Brust Getränke: 2 x Flasche Wein Savagnion Blanc a 41,- Euro / Flasche: sehr gut, aber Preis bei EK von rd. 9 Euro auch frech … Gesamteindruck: typische Gastronomie, um KuDamm-Umfeld mit entsprechender Preisgestaltung und Touristen als Zielgruppe - es gibt bessere “Österreicher” in Berlin - just check - wir warten zusammen trotzdem einen schönen Abend unter uns 😄

Viel zu hochpreisig...für 2 kleine Marillenknödel 15 €...das war schon sehr frech!
