Ottenthal in Berlin

Wenngleich auch unsere Reservierung falsch gebucht wurde, hatten wir einen netten Abend hier. Die Speisen waren gut, wenn auch tendenziell umsatzfördernd überstürzt. Der Veltiner von Schnell war spitze, auch wenn wir uns fragen, warum eine Flasche zum 4- 5 flachen des Ek verkauft werden muss. Der Service war zuvorkommend, umsichtig und höflich.

Restaurang i gamla Västberlins shoppingdistrikt som fokuserar på tradionell österrikisk mat. Vi åt wienerschnitzel och medaljonger av viltkött till varmrätt. Mycket gott. Schnitzel serverades med god potatissallad, men utan sås , ansjovis eller kapris. Kanske ska det vara så. Gott i alla fall. Till efterrätt Sachertårta. Lite virrig service periodvis

Vine aquí después de leer sobre ello en un artículo sobre la cena en solitario en Berlín y no me decepcionó. Reservé una mesa por la noche temprano y tuve una comida increíble, sin duda la mejor que tuve en Berlín y allí entre las mejores comidas que he tenido. Tenía el cordón azul; ternera rellena de jamón y queso. El tamaño de la porción era enorme y el sabor era exquisito. La carne estaba tierna y sabrosa y había tanto queso. Realmente me encantó. También había algo de pan proporcionado con la comida - fue increíble. Estaba demasiado lleno para tomar el postre, pero disfruté el pedacito de Sacher torte que venía con la factura. El servicio era muy atento - el camarero era amable y acogedor. Pensé que el precio era muy razonable para una comida tan deliciosa. Sin duda volveré si vuelvo a Berlín.

Since we didn't have a reservation, we were hosted at the bar. The food was very delicious.

The food is overpriced but tasty. The worst of all was the 7 euro tap water charge if possible!!! Service good although the blonde girl could be a little more smiley and not push her work! The older lady much better.(plus take a little more care of the appearance, the hair clips, wrong for the image of the shop you want to market...Think a little more about how you work..you earn hundreds euros every day!

Very nice and good restaurant on Kantstrasse with Austrian dishes. Fairly priced, nice attentive service. Highly recommended.

I made a last minute reservation and was incredibly happy with the choice. The Wiener Schnitzel was delicious. Large and I’m surprised that I finished the whole thing. The Apfelstrudel was equally great. The staff were lovely and even put up with my broken German. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Authentic Austrian cuisine at high prices, personal and attentive service. Reservation is essential, start time plus 120 minutes are booked. Quality of the food is first class. 2 comments: for still water (€7) I would have liked to have opened the bottle in my presence and not a carafe. If bottles of wine consumed in the restaurant are charged five times the bottle retail price, in my opinion that is grossly overpriced.

We were in a large group with colleagues from all over Germany in the Ottenthal and had a great evening! Very nice atmosphere, great service and fantastic food - a real recommendation!

Unfortunately I am really very disappointed the service was anything but welcoming. My friend and I were there to celebrate her birthday. Right at the beginning I noticed that all of the guests' jackets had been taken away except for us. But that was just the beginning. After we ordered, I gave my friend her gifts and we immediately noticed that our waitress of the evening looked at us disparagingly from start to finish. When the food came, she put the side dish on my cutlery and then said snidely to me that I should take my cutlery away, but I didn't have time and as stupid as that sounds, her problem is that I am the guest and the cutlery was laid out like that I should please her. The young waitress with the blonde hair and the tattoo on her neck shouldn't work in service because it was anything but good. In the end we wanted to have our food packed and then another great comment came: “You didn’t even eat” and that’s exactly why we wanted to take it with us. I have been a guest several times and the other cellars are very accommodating. I really hope her boss sees this and brings it to her attention. In a restaurant like this, good and respectful treatment of guests should be a given.

We were there on January 15th. Five of us in the Ottenthal and it was excellent. We had a very nice table and Sascha served us. He has just the right amount of friendliness and competence and makes you feel completely comfortable. The food was also very good and we will definitely come back..

Zuerst das Positive: Die Servicekraft war sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend! Sonst läßt sich leider nur wenig Gutes über den Besuch im Ottenthal sagen: Das Kalbsgulasch bestand aus einer äußerst übersichtlichen Portion, die etwa einem Kinderteller entsprach. Die etwa 5 Stücklein Fleisch waren zum Teil dann auch noch fettdurchzogen bzw. bestanden nur aus Fett. Gelungen war dafür die schmackhafte Soße, von der allerdings auch wenige Esslöffel auf dem Teller landeten. Die Spätzle dazu waren wenige, aber sie waren in Ordnung. Eine Beilage - Salat oder Gemüse - sparte sich das Ottenthal. Das bestellte und gereichte kleine Schnitzel sah gar nicht so klein aus, weil die Panade darum herum wie aufgeblasen war und das nur Millimeter dicke Fleisch erfolgreich versteckte. Alles in allem: mehr Schein als Sein. Der Kartoffelsalat dazu schmeckte immerhin, aber ließ halt auch den Gast hungrig zurück. Der Kaiserschmarren am Ende war ok, die dazu gereichte Soße bzw. der Kompott schmackhaft. Zu einem neuerlichen Besuch wird es nicht kommen, da es zu allem Überfluss auch noch ungemütlich kalt war in dem kaum besuchten Restaurant.

We had a small Christmas party with 12 people. Everything was wonderfully prepared, the food and drink was consistently excellent. Service too. It wasn't completely free, but worth every cent❤️

Great restaurant! Very good service, very good food and great ambience. Unfortunately, the house has been sold and the rental agreement was terminated at the end of February 2025. If anyone has a suitable property in Berlin, this would be an excellent and proven tenant!

“Unfortunately there was no Freid there.” As a “half-Austrian” I love the wonderful Austrian cuisine. The Ottenthal is one of several austrophic restaurants in Berlin. My expectations were high, given the many positive reviews here and elsewhere. However, these were over three courses, two different, open wines and quite disappointed in terms of hospitality. Just one example from the kitchen: “Wiener Schnitzel”. These literally come from the kitchen as “cream puffs” (see photo). It looks spectacular at first, but it has as much in common with Wiener Schnitzel as an inflatable boat has in common with a sailing yacht. There is no cooking secret for anyone who knows what a deep fryer with breading can do. What remains a mystery, however, is how people in Ottenthal manage to process the veal in such a way that in the end it only reaches a thickness in a few places that exceeds 2 mm (but never the thickness of the breading). Unfortunately, the excessively thin stripping of the veal doesn't help the taste at all, but it may be a consolation for the owner's savings account. Regardless, the price charged for the breaded, cloth-thick piece of meat is definitely not too low. However, they don't seem to be aware of any guilt on site, because neither when requesting a table reservation nor on the evening itself does the service make any serious attempt to compensate for the poor quality of the cuisine, at least with Austrian-style hospitality. Consistently below average, removed from my list of good (Austrian) restaurants in the Republic that same evening. Too bad!

Rápido almuerzo tarde entre semana. Elige el pequeño schnitzel de Wiener que viene con un lado que sirve ensaladas de papa y pepino. El schnitzel estaba muy bien cocinado, muy delgado y bien empanado. Había 2 opciones de vino - tinto y blanco. El rojo estaba seco y muy bien encinado. Muy aceptable y maridado bien con la comida. El servicio fue amable, atento y rápido.

Really authentic Austrian, food and service excellent

Wir hatten vorab einen Tisch online reserviert. Schon beim Betreten des Restaurants fühlten wir uns willkommen. Die Mitarbeiter waren sehr nett und aufmerksam. Das Essen (Rehterrine als Vorspeise, Kässpätzle und Filet vom Saibling, Kaiserschmarrn) war sehr gut. Wir haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt und den Aufenthalt genossen.

Gran comida aquí anoche. La comida y el servicio eran geniales. Tuvimos las albóndigas rellenas de ganso y ternera de Berlín y plato de salchichas, ambos eran excelentes! El sabor de las salsas era fantástico. Nos dieron un poco de pan con una pasta para untar de patata que era delicioso antes de nuestra comida! Terminamos nuestra comida con un delicioso pastel Ottenhaler Sacher de postre y pequeños choc y fresas petit fours complementarios. Recomendaría absolutamente venir aquí y reservar con antelación ya que se pone super ocupado.

The best food from Austria. Never had such good schnitzel before. Extremely tender and great potato salad with it. Everything else was great too. Of course it's a bit pricey but if you have something to celebrate then 100% recommended

Was there at short notice for dinner. The price is not cheap, but the quality of the food, the service and the location are absolutely fine. Don't be surprised by the photos, I had the small schnitzel and a 1/2 portion of Kaiserschmarrn. Above all, the friendliness of the staff and their attentiveness were absolutely top. The Wiener Schnitzel was a bit too flat for me personally, but that's purely personal preference. Same with the salt content of the soup, but there were salt shakers. Thanks for the lovely evening!

Enjoyed a really excellent schnitzel once again! A real excellent friendly service. And the food was exceptionally good. The Wiener Schnitzel and the Debreziner Gulyas were really tasty and worth every cent.

It was the best Wiener Schnitzel I’ve ever had. My German husband is still talking about how it was the best :) It’s probably the best Schnitzel you can find in Berlin. I also loved that you could choose between a small and regular size, for me small size was enough. The potato salad served on the side was perfect as well. The other dishes looked great—we had a pancake dessert with homemade jam. It was quite sweet, but the buttery taste perfectly filled the remaining space in our stomachs.

Freundliche Bedienung Das Wiener Schnitzel war unglaublich, ca. 2 mm dünn, aufgeblasene Panade wie ein Luftballon, kein Geschmack, da anscheinend das Salz gefehlt hat und zu guter Letzt wurde es nach meiner Auffassung in der Fritteuse zubereitet. Nachdem der Kellner fragte, ob alles in Ordnung war, tuschelten die beiden Kellner untereinander mit Blicken zu uns. Sehr unangenehm. Nach 7 Minuten kam die Chefin und erkundigte sich und war erschüttert. Wir sind die ersten Gäste seit 31 Jahren die sich beschweren, ihre Schwiegermutter macht die Schnitzel immer so und ganz Wien ißt diese Schnitzel so. Das ist ein Witz. Wir gehen gern mal in * Restaurants essen. So etwas habe ich noch NIE serviert bekommen. Am Ende hat die Chefin beide Schnitzel von der Rechnung genommen und sich von uns freundlich verabschiedet. Am Ende sehr entgegenkommend und Größe gezeigt. Sehr gut. Aber die Zubereitung war ein Witz

Coming in as a guest today after 20 years - a very special experience as I completed my training here in 2004. It was simply wonderful and very emotional to return to this place that brings back so many beautiful and formative memories. The food is still first class: incredibly tasty, high quality and exactly as I remembered it - 'like before'. ;) A big thank you for the great service! I wish you continued success and look forward to seeing you again soon.

I happened to stumble into the Ottenthal hungry without knowing what to expect, and the loving, friendly service staff recommended an excellent boiled beef with a refreshing wine accompaniment. The food embraced me like the feeling of home. A pleasure! Best boiled beef of my life! Thanks to the entire kitchen for this culinary delight. With everything fully booked, the service was quick, attentive, friendly and charming. Would eat here again at any time.

Service unfortunately very arrogant.

The worst service I have ever experienced in a restaurant. A waiter, an older man which is around 50 years old I guess, asked me if he could move my bag. I said that it wasn’t a problem for me. Instead of moving my bag, he was throwing it on the ground against a wall, while there was a laptop in it. And he even didn’t apologize when we said that it was quite strange. So for the service you can better go somewhere else. And that is sad, because there isn’t anything wrong with the food.

Warum nicht mal österreichisch! Und dazu original Wiener Schnitzel mit Vogel- und Kartoffel-Gurken-Salat! Und ein schönes Glas Roter Veltliner! Eine runde Sache! Die Betreuung der Gäste ist sehr herzlich, und die erbetenen Vorschläge sind eine zuverlässige Hilfe für ein gutes Essen!!! Ich war zum ersten Mal hier - aber sicher nicht zum letzten Mal! I was quite disappointed by the time we had at Ottenthal. We went there for dinner for two on a summer evening while visiting Berlin. I have to admit that the dishes we ordered were ok. Not knowing the subtleties of Austrian cuisine, we found our plates recomforting. Cuisine aside, what disappointed the most was the service. There were little considerations given to us : the plates were almost thrown onto the table without even checking who ordered what, no enquiry on whether we needed more drinks nor desserts, ... we didn't feel welcome. Little problem on the note where there was an additional unidentified item that we noticed way after paying (we should have checked, our bad) For the price we paid, we would have expected a more welcoming service. I'd be happy to pursue the discussion if needed to explain further my feedback. Cheers!

Staff lovely.. unfortunately we found the food ordinary. Personally we were disappointed after reading the rave reviews about the schnitzel being the best outside Austria but Buttery crispy schinizel it was NOT. Don’t get me wrong the foot was competent but not worth the price tag. For our taste (and I do admit that taste is a very personal thing) we found the Food & Wine over priced for our taste.

Quality Austrian/German food which was near out hotel. Cant really complain about the food especially the bread & potato/onion/cream cheese spread which was delicious. However it's not cheap and I was really surprised to be charged €4 for 2 cups of hot water. I was told that there is no tap water so then paid for 0.2l glass of still water charged at €2. Plus it is then stated "TIP IS NOT INCLUDED" on the bill. TBH service was great - it's just the additional charges that lets the restaurant down.

There are German/Austrian restaurants you go to for that traditional beer-hall-style atmosphere and there are those you visit for a really good meal. This is the latter. They don't have communal benches or wear Lederhosen here. Instead, they have some of the best traditional Austrian dishes I've ever had. The (veal) schnitzel is cooked to perfection and melts in your mouth. (Ask for the Preiselbeeren because I don't think they come by default!) While the side portions are small, they make up for quantity with quality. The salad and potato salad were both fantastic. The entrees were so good, we couldn't resist the Kaiserschmarrn for dessert (FYI it takes time as they make it fresh). And what a fantastic decision. It was so fluffy and warm and perfect; it was in the top 5 of all Kaiserschmarrn I've had, and that's saying something. The service was really friendly and made sure we were taken care of at all times. And since it was raining during our visit, it was incredibly cozy inside with nice lighting and old-school but upscale ambiance. So TL;DR: come here for a slightly pricier chef's-kiss Austrian meal in a fancier setting. And make a reservation, as they fill up often!

Were on August 10th. 24 for the first time in OTTENTHAL and are Really very enthusiastic, except for a few “little things” that I would just like to point out in this price range! When I ordered a large bottle of carbonated MINERAL WATER, I would have liked to have been told what was coming, the veal goulash was decidedly too tomatoized and the wonderful service of the gentleman who served us; discreet, competent and very personable, was constantly praised Lady who apparently wanted to “go one step further” was intrusively disturbed! Starters, boiled beef, dessert absolutely top, priced just before the PAIN LIMIT, but absolutely worth the money! Otherwise a great EXPERIENCE and we would love to come back! I had my dinner in this pleasant Austrian restaurant. The venue is nice and the cuisine is very good. I had a wonderful Wiener schnitzel but also other proposals were excellent. The service makes the difference: the ladies are very professional but, at the same time, they are very kind and they make you feel at home! A very nice dinner: Recommended!

It was very special! The food was authentic, Service attentive and atmosphere quite pleasant!

This place was once recommended to me by the local foodies. As a rule, you shouldn't expect good national food outside of the country of its origin. But this time, such rule doesn't apply! I am always smiling while eating the perfectly cooked schnitzel. And I am also amazed by the seriously professional wine list of the Austrian wines. I should not be saying anything else about this place. Let me just say, that they serve the best Viennese schnitzel outside of Vienna. Every time I am in Berlin, I find the evening to go to Ottental. Those schnitzels are addictive, you know...

Fascists like Maximilian Krah are apparently welcome guests here, as he was a guest there last Friday evening. Completely incomprehensible why such a high-ranking redtaurant feels the need to entertain fascists... unless the owners sympathize with their ideas? In any case, I won't go here again and recommend that all democratic people boycott this restaurant!

We were staying fairly close so selected this restaurant on accessibility but we were very happy with the meal and the service. In particular our waitress was extremely personable and friendly, gave us a table outside - the only issue we had was other diners constantly smoking / vaping, surely this could be banned even outside? The food was good and seemingly authentic, overall we were pretty happy.

Great experience, I would love to go back one day and dine at Ottenthal again. It was a very emotional dinner because we travelled with my parents who had their 40 year anniversary and for dessert they had Baumkuchen which they served as Wedding Cake 40 years ago (in Buenos Aires, Argentina so nowhere close to Austria or Germany at all haha). The food was also amazing, and the attention was as well. Thank you!

Door alle goede recensies zijn we hier terecht gekomen, anders zouden we er waarschijnlijk totaal voorbij zijn gereden. En de goede recensies zijn niet voor niets. Het eerlijk is echt heerlijk. Perfect bereid. Personeel is zeer vriendelijk en gastvrij. Ik had vooraf de pompoensoep met ontzettend lekkere pompoenolie, zelfs mijn eigen eigen soep kon daar niet aan tippen. Mijn man had de cordon blue, die verrukkelijk was en ik de entrecote, even heerlijk. We zaten te vol voor een nagerecht. Wij zaten lekker buiten op het kleine terras aan een leuke drukke straat. Let wel op, parkeer je auto niet recht voor de deur, dat is een fietspad wat helemaal niet duidelijk aangegeven is. Politie komt aan en iedereen, stuk of 8 auto's, kregen een bekeuring en na een uur, werden alle auto's, stuk voor stuk weggesleept. Moet eerlijk zeggen het was vermakelijk om te aanschouwen, maar je wilt natuurlijk niet dat het je eigen auto is!

Good food, nice decor! I've been there for many years! However, since Corona there has been a bit of a lack of service and hospitality when we don't come as a large group but want to eat as a couple. Unfortunately, that's a real shame!

Delightful. We ate dinner here this evening. Wonderful atmosphere, warmth, and attention to detail. The food was a great mix of flavors and expertly cooked—thoughtful menu with a variety of options. Would highly recommend and will come back next time we visit!

Shortly before the historic cup final, we wanted and did fortify ourselves here with Austrian specialties. We had the Grüner Veltliner sparkling wine from the revealed and then a very nice COrdon Bleu with good cheese content and the right crust. Were served friendly and the great pinot noir with the even better butcher pig on the label. It is quite noisy in the room - but the service is great, not intrusive and the opening time is until just before midnight. There is no Michelin star for the cuisine - but I don't think that's the goal and you know why you go to Ottental. You should also read Evelyn Roll's book. She suffered a burst aneurysm, survived and was successfully operated on. Go through the post-operative trauma shock...and then invite those who have shown by saving lives that commitment and ability is what counts to a thank you dinner at the Ottenthal. On page 136 the Ottenthal is immortalized in literature.

We had a great dinner at Ottenthal with very friendly staff. The Wiener Schnitzel is a must if you eat at an Austrian restaurant. The Kaiserschmarrn is fresh, but a little sweet. A matter of taste 😊 we'll be back!!

Pre booked online before visiting Berlin, greeted by lovely staff who were so welcoming, service, food, and drinks were excellent. We were a party of 4 all trying different dishes which we thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommended.

Even though my wife and I just wanted to have a bite to eat before our musical started, we ended up with one of the tastiest meals we've ever eaten. No matter whether it was a starter, main course or dessert, it tasted fantastic. Plus an absolutely courteous service. We will definitely come back on our next trip to Berlin.

Great, simply great! I've already experienced a lot, but everything here is just right. The ambience is brilliant, with a fresh rose on a small stele in honor of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, an ancient church tower clockwork from Ottenthal in Austria that is still functional and running, and the finest Easter decorations throughout the restaurant. The atmosphere is carried by really friendly, loving and, above all, very good-humored and relaxed guests. And on top of that, the food and wine as well as the aperitif, coffee and digestif were an absolute revelation. First a boiled beef soup with liver dumplings made from goose liver, the consommé alone was to die for. Then a cordon bleu of veal, my favorite dish since childhood, the like of which I can never remember eating - the finest ham, the excellent mountain cheese, the meat cooked to perfection and the breading (in German: breading) simply great, crispy and beautifully souffled . Craziness. Finally, a Sachertorte with whipped cream, and I have to say: What a Sachertorte! I've already eaten the Sachertorte at Café Sacher in Vienna, which to be honest was very sobering. But this one was not only the best I've ever had, but easily ten times as good as in Vienna. Only now do I know why the Sachertorte has become so world famous. And you can definitely taste the homemade apricot jam. Cheers! As a joke, I ordered a single horse instead of a double espresso macchiato, and what can I say, it was served promptly! And it was so delicious. Then a schnapps from the cornelian cherry, extremely tasty and an excellent conclusion. All of this would be absolutely top class if it weren't for the one and only outstanding service! From the first greeting to the farewell, I have rarely if ever experienced such attentive, highly professional service, including a warm, loving manner and affection towards the guest - with humor. My greatest appreciation, here in Ottenthal you can really feel completely at home from A to Z. I'll definitely be back! PS: The only downer is the really not very reasonable prices. You pay around 15 € for a glass of wine, not less than 40 € for a bottle, usually 50 to 80 €, main courses around 30 to 40 €, starters 15 to 20 €, tap water from 3.50 to 7 € ( 0.5 to 1 l). I was initially skeptical about the prices, but I still have to say that with this restaurant's service and quality, it's definitely worth the money!

The Ottenthal is one of my husband and I's absolute favorite restaurants. The service is always super friendly and attentive and the menu is sophisticated and the dishes are prepared with skill and a lot of love. In addition, you can get the best Wiener Schnitzel in the city! We are already looking forward to the next visit!

I can only speak from my own experience. The restaurant is one of the best in Berlin and the service is the nicest. We will be back definitely.

Absolutely fabulous Austrian food and service. Definitely worth a visit. I had a cream of cauliflower soup with a small dumpling in it followed by a piece of tender pork with a wonderful apple/horseradish sauce, potatoes and cream spinach. Beautiful presentation. The waiter provided just the right amount of attention. Definitely give the place a try.

Delicious! 🤤Had their smoked ham (it was okay) for appetizer, schnitzel (the best I’ve ever had) for main and tree cake (🤯🤤)for dessert. Yeah and the beer was also good but that’s without saying.
