Daheim in der Affentorschänke in Frankfurt am Main

I spontaneously ventured out and didn't regret it. I had the knuckle of pork with apple slaw and mashed potatoes. Delicious, crispy knuckle straight from the oven. It was served with sparkling apple wine. The young gentleman serving at lunch introduced me to other apple wines, which were very, very tasty. I finished with a little medlar, and I left the restaurant happy. Thank you so much, I'll be back :)

A pleasant surprise amidst a multitude of traditional German restaurants. The food was decent, with interesting dressings, and special service, especially from the friendly and very professional Judy.

We were here for dinner with a group of 38 people. The restaurant is very nicely decorated. The service was super friendly and very quick. The various dishes with green sauce were absolutely delicious. We were all very satisfied and would love to come back.

The restaurant Daheim in the Affentorschänke in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen is a great alternative if, as in our case, there is no space available in the sister restaurant Daheim in Lorsbacher Thal - and definitely worth a visit! The food was outstanding, with particular attention to the legendary Handkäs with music, which is truly unique. The music was perfectly coordinated, the Hankäs was wonderfully creamy and you could taste the quality of the ingredients. There was also a cozy atmosphere that invited you to linger. The attentive and warm service rounded off the experience perfectly. If you want to enjoy authentic Frankfurt cuisine at the highest level, this is the right place for you!

Unfortunately, our visit to the Affentorschänke was a disappointment. The service was inattentive and we had to wait a long time before we could even order. The food was carelessly prepared and unfortunately the taste was not convincing - in particular (name the dish that didn't taste good) was much too (e.g. salty, bland, dry). The atmosphere also left a lot to be desired: (e.g. loudness, cleanliness or other disturbing factors). Overall, we had imagined a more pleasant evening, but unfortunately our expectations were not met. It's a shame, we had hoped for more! Nope again👎👎👎👎👎👎👎

Very tasty Frankfurter Schnitzel, great ambience and service that was very friendly and the woman was on her toes. Drink prices too high! Delicious food & great friendly service as well as a beautiful room & opportunities to sit outside.

We were there with a large group. We were required to order the "little bite trip" per person as an appetizer. That was 1.33 bowls per person and we had to do that Each guest had to pay €14. This is usury! There were also several bottles of water on every table. These had to be paid for in full, even those that we did not consume. We all felt like we were being ripped off. No recommendation and we won't go there ever.

Delicious food, friendly and fast service.

Unfortunately, the Affentorschänke has practically nothing to do with an apple winery since it was taken over - like the other two restaurants in this group (Drei Steuber and Lorsbacher Tal). They are all furnished in exactly the same country house style and seem like “tasteful” system restaurants, but not like Frankfurt apple wine taverns - and the food everywhere is mediocre at best. The service is very friendly, but that doesn't help in the end. Too bad and sad.

Amazing food and atmosphere! I had the crispy pork knuckle with potatoes, and it was absolutely delicious—crispy on the outside, tender inside. The service was impeccable. Highly recommend!

The Affentor Schänke is a classic Äppelwein restaurant where you feel comfortable. The food and the Äppelwein are delicious and the mood is there with my friends! My rating is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️stars Frankfurt am Main, Neuer Wall.

I haven't felt so comfortable in a restaurant for a long time. We went there for an early dinner with family & toddler on a Saturday evening - definitely make a reservation! The service was super friendly and accommodating and made every effort to look after even the smallest guest. There were colored pencils and a crown (highlight) to color in, children's cutlery, children's portions and straw, all offered proactively, something you rarely experience. The food was excellent, the prices are not unreasonable, but the reasons for this are also explained on a poster. Quaint but stylish Ebbelwoik pub, definitely recommended! By the way, also for vegetarians, there is a menu of vegetarian dishes that is just as large as classic meat-based German cuisine.

Essen hervorragend, Service war sehr freundlich und immer aufmerksam. Wir kommen definitiv wieder. Wer Sachsenhausen liebt, sollte hier einmal vorbeischauen. Es ist ein bisschen gehobeneres Ambiente, aber das macht es zu etwas Besonderem und der Charme einer Sachsenhäuser Ebbelwoiwirtschaft ist vorhanden.

Die Möglichkeit zur Online-Reservierung hat uns damals auf die Affentorschänke gebracht. Wegen dem sehr guten Essen und dem netten Service sind wir dann immer wieder gekommen. Es hat sich seit Jahren eher verbessert, was eher die Ausnahme ist. Wir kommen gerne dort hin.

A good restaurant, typically German, where they serve family-style cuisine. The setting is very warm and the service friendly... but unfortunately very slow: more than an hour of waiting for the first course. We were with young children and it was quite painful. As a result, we left without being able to have dessert. Damage !

The holiday menu's goose ragout, schnitzel, and pork knuckle were good representations of classic German cuisine. The salad was particularly fresh and well-prepared. However, the rouladen was disappointingly tough and difficult to cut - though this might be a matter of personal preference. The gorgeous interior and fine tableware create a special ambiance. The food quality overall was decent, but the experience was somewhat marred by an uncomfortable moment when the waiter explicitly asked for a tip, which feels out of place in European dining culture, but I think I can definitely give this place another visit.

Good food but due to the space at the door and the many guests the place was uncomfortable and cold. But service was ok.

Overall only 3 stars The food was delicious, but it was heavy on all of our stomachs. The prices are really high and you pay a lot more here than in other restaurants. There is a star deduction due to the lack of milk alternatives! This is now standard everywhere.

One of the most beautiful and well-kept restaurants in Alt Sachsenhausen...and that's saying something...higher prices than in the surrounding area, also a bit ambitious cuisine with good quality. Unfortunately, the wait for the food was unbearably long and it wasn't handled well at all...it's a shame

After an Äpler tour, this was by far the most tasteless cider. The service used to be friendlier too. As always, everything is subjective.

Recommended if you want to eat local food. You can feel Frankfurt in many ways. An English menu was also available. Since I went during Christmas, I was also able to eat goose, which was very satisfying. The atmosphere in the store was also good.

Fantastic and authentic German cuisine. The owner has (3) restaurants, all with excellent apfelwein selections (honestly; no reason not to go with the house). Seating in the "library" is a lot quieter and comes off as more formal (better for date night).

Irritiert hat mich das Verhalten eines Mitarbeiters, der über einen längeren Zeitraum sehr unwirsch reagiert hat, als wir anstatt mit 5 mit 6 Personen kamen (nicht geplant, manchmal passieren eben Dinge und wir hatten auch gar keine Extras verlangt, sind einfach zusammengerückt) Bis auf die sehr lange Wartezeit auf die Hauptspeisen war sonst alles wie gewohnt top, Danke an alle guten Geister und fröhliche Weihnachten! Breading of the veal schnitzel not prepared - disappointing! Fried fish into three parts!? Not fried fish, but breaded with breadcrumbs?? Also disappointing! Good wine selection!

Good Frankfurt food at fair prices, nice and attentive service.

We are in Frankfurt on the left bank of the Main in a nice restaurant serving German cuisine. Ate a rolled meat with spinach, mashed potatoes and sauerkraut: meat not tender with sauce that covered the flavor of the meat. For dessert I had a hard and a little dry muffin. Improvable cuisine....

Das Lokal, die Lage, die Atmosphäre, alles super. Allerdings, wir auch vor einigen Wochen in München erlebt, führte die Buchung über Open Table direkt an den Katzentisch. Gegenüber dem Eingang mit ständigem Durchzug und gehenden und kommenden Gästen. Dafür buche ich nicht Wochen vorher. Lokal okay, Open table eher nicht mehr. Schade, tolle Sache von Ansatz und Bequemlichkeit bei der Buchung, aber die Lokale scheinen das nicht so zu mögen

Pleasant upgrade to the classic Ebbelwoi restaurant. And with really many good varieties of Ebbelwoi ;-)

Delicious traditional dishes (Handkäse with delicious bread, cutlet fried in butter with green sauce and fried potatoes). The fried foods were not heavy or dripping with fat. Portions are large, but not huge. Pleasant and cozy interior. Professional service.

We spent a lovely evening in the Ebbelwoi restaurant "Affentorschänke" and were served in a friendly manner. The narrow restaurant has been renovated and spruced up, but without losing the flair of a cider restaurant. However, the prices for food and drink are quite ambitious, but all kinds of products from regional producers are used. The "green sauce" was quite decent, but the potatoes were tasty. Unfortunately, the “beetroot salad” wasn’t my cup of tea at all. I found the “bread” to taste a little too intense.

Wow! Nothing grumpy Sachsenhausen waiters. Incredibly friendly service, helpful and competent! The cider selection and level of cider far outshines many standard wine lists. It's worth trying out! Expert advice based on personal taste. Beers and grape wines are also available in a good, high-quality selection. The kitchen is high quality. Whether Handkäs or Frankfurter Schnitzel, everything is great. Our Austrian friends give the veal schnitzel 10 out of 10 points. The green sauce is one of the best and most flavorful we have ever had. High recommendation for this restaurant! Many thanks to the team!

Amazing food, a great vibe, and even better service by Julius and Dennis. Got the handkase cheese, bratwurst, veal snitchzel with green sauce (award-winning), and roast pork knuckle. Washed it down with house apfelwein. Everything was 10 out 10. Sit outside if the weather is nice.

Very good service and amazing traditional food. The apfelwein marinated meats and sauerkraut were sick. Close to a subway station so you can easily make it even if you have too much apfelwein.

Es war unser erster aber nicht der letzte Besuch. Super nettes Servicepersonal mit tollen Gesprächen. Essen nicht „von der Stange“ sondern so lecker wie zu Hause. Eher noch besser. Habe selten so leckere Bratkartoffeln im Restaurant und so leckere Apfelringe zum Nachtisch gegessen. Wusste gar nicht, dass es so viele Apfelweinsorten gibt. Toll 😊 absolut empfehlenswert .

We were here for dinner in a larger group. The location is very nicely decorated and traditional. The service was courteous and friendly. The Frankfurter Schnitzel with green sauce was unfortunately just ok. Unfortunately, the schnitzel itself was not crispy and quite fatty. There was also a lack of sauce and the potatoes could have been more plentiful. The apple rings were good.

The Affentorschänke in Alt Sachsenhausen is a beautiful restaurant where we have wanted to eat for a long time. No sooner said than done, we were there last week. The restaurant is very beautiful and lovingly decorated. The employees are very friendly. We decided on a classic hand cheese as well as the boulette in the starter. Both were delicious. The boulette is a little difficult to eat as it is served in a finger food bowl. Here it would probably make sense to choose a slightly larger bowl so that you can eat more comfortably, so you don't necessarily have to put more on your plate. For the main course we each ate a Frankfurter Schnitzel. The fried potatoes were delicious and fried with their skins on. The frankfurter green sauce was also good. The pork schnitzel we ordered was solid, but unfortunately we expected more here. The breading was coarser, almost like a finer panko, which completely precludes the schnitzel from being baked. We don't expect a perfectly souffled schnitzel in a cider bar, even with a high standard, but unfortunately, although it was very finished, it was apparently baked too cold. The ambience, and probably few people will disagree with me, is really beautiful and inviting. When the restaurant is full, it gets really warm. There is no ventilation, air conditioning or similar to keep the restaurant at a certain temperature. The operator's hands will be tied here as the building is a listed building. Unfortunately there's nothing I can do, but it's definitely more pleasant and bearable without a sweater. Or alternatively come as one of the first guests. :-) Just as an information for parents with babies: There is no changing table to change your little ones. All in all we had a lovely evening. Die Affentorschänke in Alt Sachsenhausen ist ein wunderschönes Lokal in welchem wir lange schon maö essen gehen wollten. Gesagt, getan waren wir vergangene Woche dort. Das Restaurant ist sehr schön und liebevoll eingerichtet worden. Die Mitarbeiter sind sehr freundlich. Wir haben uns klassisch für einen einfachen Handkäse entschieden sowie der Boulette in der Vorspeise. Beides war lecker. Die Boulette ist ein wenig schwer zu essen, wird sie doch in einer Fingerfood Schale serviert. Hier würde es vermutlich Sinn machen eine bisschen grössere Schale zu wählen, damit man angenehmer Essen kann, muss dadurch ja nicht zwingend mehr auf den Teller. Im Hauptgang haben wir jeweils ein Frankfurter Schnitzel gegessen. Die Bratkartoffeln waren lecker und mit Schale gebraten. Die Frankfurter grüne Sauce war ebenfalls gut. Das Schnitzel, welches wir vom Schwein bestellten war solide, aber leider haben wir hier mehr erwartet. Die Panade war gröber, fast richtung feineres Panko was ein soufflieren des Schnitzels komplett ausschließt. Wir erwarten in einer Apfelweinwirtschaft auch bei gehobenem Standard kein perfekt Souffliertes Schnitzel, aber leider was es auch sehr fertig, wurde es scheinbar zu kalt ausgebacken. Das Ambiente und da werden mir vermutlich wenige widersprechen ist wirklich mega schön und einladend. Wenn das Restaurant voll ist, wird es richtig warm. Es gibt keine Lüftung, Klimaanlage o.ä. um das Restaurant auf einer gewissen Temperstur zu halten. Dem Betreiber werden hier die Hände gebunden sein, da das Gebäude unter Denkmalschutz steht. Kann mam leider nichts machen, aber ohne Pullover ist es auf jedenfall angenehmer und aushaltbarer. Oder alternativ als einer der ersten Gäste kommen. :-) Für Eltern mit Babys nur als Info: Es gibt keine Wickelkommode um eure kleinen zu wickeln. Allen in allem hatten wir einen schönen Abend. Great pub atmosphere. Had the veal schnitzel which was incredible and the Janus Becker appelwein which was great. The service was quick and very friendly and great recommendations were provided. If you want a great evening with a good atmosphere food and drink, this is the place to go.

We were with you this afternoon with 7 people and felt very comfortable! Everyone enjoyed the food very much, top quality, ribs well prepared, absolutely recommended, cabbage. Mashed potatoes, schnitzel, fried potatoes, green sauce, salad, herring, all excellent!!! The hand cheese is great, the bread (on Sundays) is brilliantly fresh. Julius, our waiter served us very well, friendly and with humor, thank you very much!!!

The food, starters and meatballs, tastes like in a canteen, but the prices are overpriced. The waitresses are friendly and quick. It's nice to sit outside, but it's pretty stuffy inside.

A compliment to the friendly service on the one hand and to the kitchen on the other. In terms of price, this restaurant is certainly not in the low range, but the quality is good and the selection of cider specialties is hard to find anywhere else. Particularly noteworthy is the extremely delicious, home-baked bread that is served with hand cheese. However, I don't understand why a large cider (0.5l) is charged at the same price as two small ones (0.3l each). But that is just a small side note. Otherwise: all thumbs up!

A very nice place in the shade of the trees. Plus a refreshing cider and great service. Delicious food with products from regional producers. Conclusion: Highly recommended! Definitely worth a try: “Goldparmäne” a dry apple wine. Don't forget to make a reservation during core times.

Delicious bites (“Hessian tapas”) and orchard cider, absolutely warm and prompt service, on a summer evening outside on the square in a beautiful atmosphere. We felt absolutely comfortable and will definitely come back.

I went to this restaurant to entertain a co-worker from abroad. I made the reservation inside sunce I do not like to be around smokers. The place was almost empty and we could talk without yelling at each other. The service was excellent. Kitchen seemed to be busy but we didn't mind. I would recommend this place anytime, but guess you better make reservations -especially in the colder months.

We went there for dinner for the first time today. Although the restaurant was completely full, we were greeted very friendly and served by Mr. Minuth in a very attentive and courteous manner. We were given tasting glasses and personal advice to help us choose the “right” cider. If we are in Frankfurt again we will definitely come back, especially since the green sauce is the best we have ever tasted. Thank you very much for the lovely evening!

Wir sind seit Jahren Stammgäste und hatten bis jetzt immer gute Erfahrungen gemacht, bis wir gestern Essen bestellt haben. 2 super kleine Schnitzel mit gefühlt 3 Bratkartoffeln für 27€ ist einfach eine Frechheit. Vor einem Jahr waren die Schnitzel noch doppelt so groß. Jetzt bekommt man nur noch zwei Chicken Nuggets. Wenn das so bleibt, waren wir das letzte Mal bei der Affentor Schänke. Sehr schade.

Good vegan schnitzel, big praise for that. However, the portion size of the Bratkoffeln is very small and prices are rather at the upper end for a cider restaurant.

Not a big fan of Germany cuisine, not a fan of pork knuckle, so I didn’t expect too much, turns out this restaurant is pretty good. The famous pork knuckle was delicious, the skin was extremely crispy like suckling pig, yet the meat was quite tender, which was impressive. The Frankfurt Green sauce is like cold soup, I think it taste pretty good as a sauce, a bit weird as a dish 😂 But I guess this is their traditional dish? I love their sour herring 👍 Potatoe soup 👍 The portion is very generous, so we couldn’t finish the pork knuckle 😅 All the staffs there are very friendly🫶👍 It was a Friday and lots tourist, so all the outdoor seats were taken, indoor seats were not bad either

We recently visited this charming restaurant and had a wonderful experience. Our waitress, Julius, was exceptionally polite and provided perfect suggestions for tasting different types of ciders. We thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance and look forward to visiting again.

We were there with our seminar group. We were able to convert our indoor reservation to the patio, which was great on a warm, humid Thursday evening. Fast, friendly and attentive staff. Food and drinks came very quickly despite our large group. I had the veal schnitzel with potatoes and green sauce. Very very tasty and reasonably priced. The terrace/beer garden is used by all pubs and is therefore quite busy and restless.

We are a group of 12 people and have been waiting for our food for 1 1/2 hours. We were also asked to free a table for guests arriving later. They have already received their food too. Everyone around has had their food for a long time, although they ordered much later.
